Emergency Episode: Non-Interim Coach!
Darian DeVries has been officially announced as the Non-Interm Head Coach for WVU Men’s Basketball! What are the parallels between this hire and the hire for this job in 2002? How is this hire being received by WVU fans and nationwide? Let’s react in an Emergency (good kind for a change) Episode.

New Episode: Double Bracket Talk
How do you treat the schools coached by the potential next Mountaineer coach in your brackets? Will there be more WVU wins this season or attempted 2-point shots by Jack Gohlke? NEW EPISODE: The Unreasonable Doubt Head Coach Candidate Spreadsheet
WVU is looking for their 5th non-interim head coach since 1978. Wren says he’s got a giant spreadsheet. I’ve put together a spreadsheet as well, but way smaller, way dumber, and with shakier math. Who does my spreadsheet say should be at the top of WVU’s candidate list? Who on the list is #1 in my heart? (Spoiler: my heart and the spreadsheet don’t align).
Huggins responds, Jahiem White is Him, and we’ve got a Smoking Musket Travel Advisory
Wren Baker lays out his vision, another Mountaineer signs a pro contract, and the SEC and Big 10 get richer
Bob Huggins’ future with WVU sports is “totally at an end”
KEN KENDRICK FROM THE TOP ROPE
West Virginia 85, Cincinnati 90
Should a Kobe snarl really change the momentum of a game that much? Can you thank everyone involved with the program after a 9-23 season? (Spoiler Alert: You absolutely can) Which season is definitively the worst WVU basketball season of the 21st Century? Let’s answer these questions and more after WVU’s season ending loss to Cincinnati in Kansas City.

West virginia football hosts a 7th grader for a visit.
The early bird gets the worm. We’ve all heard it before, and apparently West Virginia football is taking the old adage to a new level.
Over the weekend the Mountaineers hosted Austan Christiaan, a quarterback from the 2028 class who will be a seventh grader this season.
On the visit, Christiaan had a photo shoot and looked the part in the West Virginia all-whites.
🔵🟡 Country Roads Take Me Home! Can’t wait to get back to WVU. @QBHitList @NealBrown_WVU @QBIQsystem @WVUfootball @WestVirginiaU @WVUSports @CoachChadScott @Elite11 @TaylorLWest_ @CoachHarrellWVU @MastrolePassing @RWrightRivals @On3sports @On3Recruits @Media_Carnival pic.twitter.com/AllmKZ4xXj — Austan Cristiaan (@AustanQB) August 13, 2022
QB Hit List, a recruiting site that has covered Christiaan, list several attributes that makes the young quarterback one of the most intriguing future prospects in America.
“Austan has very good size for a 2028 Pro Style QB at 5’8” 150 lbs. He attacks the defense at every level. Works all of his receiver options with quick strikes. Delivers the ball with a full extension, giving his throws added height.
“Very precise with his delivery with sound throwing mechanics. Whether in the pocket or on the run, he remains consistent.
“Austan can attack a defense in many ways, whether it comes from a quick strike over the middle or a deep vertical throw downfield. Good strength in arm with high velocity throws. Tight trajectory with minimal drag.”
Of course, I write some of this a bit tongue in cheek, but in reality a player who reaches five-star status in his junior and senior year of high school is likely separating himself from the pack in junior high. So, when is the right time to start your visits? Eh, who really knows at this point, bit Christiaan has seen some of the top programs in the country as a kid, and nobody can knock him for that.

2025 RB Love sets West Virginia official visit
Fort Walton Beach (Fla.) 2025 running back Eddie Love has long been interested in the West Virginia football program but will be able to see it in person on an official visit.
Love, 5-foot-8, 185-pounds, has been in contact with both offensive coordinator Chad Scott and head coach Neal Brown.
He has been impressed with the message from both.
“They’ve been telling me how much they can develop me not only in football but just as a man and how they could use me in their offense well,” he said.
The Rivals.com three-star prospect likes what the Mountaineers have told him on top of how persistent they have been with how they are recruiting him.
“They show mad love. Coach Brown hits me up at least once every week checking on me,” he said.
Love plans to take an official visit to West Virginia June 7-9 and is excited to being able to meet the coaching staff in person as well as see how the facilities stacks up to other schools. He likes how the Mountaineers haven’t been afraid of playing young running backs and had success with it, too.
“Coach Scott just had a freshman All-American this past year and they are the number one rushing offense among power five teams,” he said. “That there says it all.”
The Mountaineers are targeting him as a running back and love the rising senior's ability to make cuts, maintain contact balance and his speed at the position. He is coming off a season where he accounted for 1,783 all-purpose yards and 15 scores.
On top of West Virginia, Love plans to take official visits to both Pittsburgh and Tulane. He isn’t looking to rush into anything with his recruitment but wants to find a program that is going to help him develop not only on the field but away from it. He also wants to find the right type of educational fit.
“A great relationship that’s key,” he said. “And obviously get developed to the best.”

West Virginia Football Reveals New Uniforms Set to Debut in 2024
First look at the new threads.
- Author: Schuyler Callihan
MORGANTOWN, WV - Saturday afternoon, the West Virginia Mountaineers revealed a new set of uniforms during the spring game which will debut in 2024.
The stripes on the shoulder pads return, paying homage to the Pat White/Geno Smith eras of Mountaineer football which saw three BCS wins, while double stripes on the pants honor the teams from the 20th century which featured Major Harris and co., who made it to the national championship in 1988. The flying WV logo also returns on each side of the shoulder pads as well.
The road uniform has West Virginia across the chest just above the numbers while the gold and blue jerseys read Mountaineers.
