Trending on billboard.

The tour kicks off on October 4 in Lexington, Ky., before making its way through cities like Nashville, Tempe and Orlando before wrapping up on October 25 in Las Vegas. While Carter will be honoring his Backstreet Boys pop roots, fans can also expect to see a new side of the singer.

“I’m going to go out with a band, and I play guitar. I’m going to be playing drums throughout the show. So, it has a bit more creative personal expression and is a little bit more organic, I guess you could say,” he says of how his tour differs from a BSB run, before sharing the “surprising” songs he hopes to add into the setlist. “There’s no walls for me when it comes to music,” Carter says with a laugh. “One of the songs I really want to do is Simple Mind’s ‘Don’t You (Forget About Me)’ from The Breakfast Club and another one I want to do is Bon Jovi’s ‘Wanted Dead or Alive.’ I’m actually going to do some rap because I grew up listening to rap music. I’m gonna tear up some rap and do my own East Coast versus West Coast!”

Carter’s Who I Am tour comes at a particularly poignant time in the superstar’s life. In November, his younger brother and fellow pop star Aaron Carter died at age 34 after he drowned in the bathtub at his home in Lancaster, Calif., after inhaling difluoroethane and taking alprazolam. His cause of death was deemed accidental .

“It’s been a very rough year for me and my family and losing my brother is still something that I’m processing,” Nick shares. Following Aaron’s death, Nick and his sister Angel launched a donation fund in their late brother’s memory to benefit On Our Sleeves , which advocates to break the stigma surrounding mental health and provides children’s mental health resources to families and teachers nationwide.

“You try to find ways to cope with the things that are being thrown at you in life. Leaning into anything philanthropic or charitable, it makes it about something bigger than yourself,” Nick says of his past few months. “When my sister and I [launched the donation fund], I think that was the only way we were able to process what we’ve been going through. It’s become about how can we turn what we’ve been feeling into something that can hopefully help somebody else, and then we can learn from it and then somebody else can learn from it.”

“I love my brother. He’s my baby brother and I love him. Losing him, it’s been really hard,” he adds, before taking time to offer some advice for those also going through the loss of a loved one. “You just have to take life as it comes and learn from it and, most importantly, just know that you’re not alone.”

As for now, Nick says that the Who I Am tour has provided a much welcomed beam of light in a particularly tumultuous year. “I’m a musician. I’m an artist. I’m a performer, but I’m also a human first,” he explains. “Music is therapeutic to me and we all find ways to manage the things that we’re going through in life. Getting out there and performing for fans and just being who I am — it’ll help me during this this time.”

Nick Carter set list

While it’s hard to guess what Carter will perform as part of his “perfect set list” on the road — he hasn’t toured on his own since 2018 — here’s a look at what he played at his last full solo gig five years ago, courtesy of Set List FM :

01.) “Blow Your Mind” 02.) “I’m Taking Off / Rocket Man (I Think It’s Going to Be a Long, Long Time)” 03.) “Horoscope” 04.) “Incomplete” (Backstreet Boys song) 05.) “As Long as You Love Me” (Backstreet Boys song) 06.) “One More Time” (Nick Knight cover) 07.) “Just Want You to Know” (Backstreet Boys song) 08.) “I Want It That Way” (Backstreet Boys song) 09.) “Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely” (Backstreet Boys song) 10.) “Don’t Wanna Lose You Now” (Backstreet Boys song) 11.) “I Need You Tonight” (Backstreet Boys song) 12.) “Burning Up”

13.) “Swet” 14.) “Larger Than Life” (Backstreet Boys song) 15.) “19 In 99”

16.) “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)” (Backstreet Boys song)

Nick Carter new music

Earlier this year, Carter dropped two new singles titled “Superman” and “Hurts To Love You.”

Both tracks are throwbacks to Backstreet Boys ballads from yesterday — clever wordplay, rangy vocals and heart on your sleeve emotion.

Sound like your kind of thing?

You can listen to them both here .

Maddie Poppe, 25, is most well-known for winning the 16th season of “American Idol” in 2018.

Since her big W, the powerful songstress released an excellent album — 2019’s “Whirlwind” — as well as a number of singles.

Backstreet Boys’ Nick Carter Announces Solo Tour

by Jon Mendelsohn July 17, 2023, 11:17 am

Backstreet Boys member Nick Carter has recently opened up to Billboard about his upcoming solo tour, which has been dubbed the Who I Am 2023 Tour. It will mark Carter’s first solo tour in seven years.

Videos by American Songwriter

Carter’s tour will begin on October 4 with a show in Lexington, Kentucky. The brief tour will come to an end on October 25 with a concert in Las Vegas. Throughout the tour, Carter will play gigs in Nashville, Tampa, and Tempe.

“I was born in 1980 and there was a lot of music that influenced me throughout the years to be one of the members of the Backstreet Boys,” Carter told Billboard . “So, I’m going to perform a lot of songs that I love.”

Carter later explained that he is going to take on many roles throughout the tour. “I’m going to go out with a band, and I play guitar,” he said. “I’m going to be playing drums throughout the show. So, it has a bit more creative personal expression and is a little bit more organic, I guess you could say.

“There’s no walls for me when it comes to music,” Carter continued.

Carter has faced tragedy recently with the passing of his brother, Aaron Carter, who drowned in his bathtub last year at the age of 34. “It’s been a very rough year for me and my family and losing my brother is still something that I’m processing… I love my brother. He’s my baby brother and I love him. Losing him, it’s been really hard. You just have to take life as it comes and learn from it and, most importantly, just know that you’re not alone.”

Carter also addressed the serious allegations held against him by former Dream singer Melissa Schuman. Schuman filed a sexual abuse lawsuit against Carter earlier this year. In regard to the legal situation. “I’m a really strong believer in the legal system,” he said. “I’m confident that justice will be served in the end, and I actually look forward to speaking about it more when it’s all over.”

Backstreet Boys’ Nick Carter Plans Solo Tour

Nick Carter has announced on the heels of closing the world tour with Backstreet Boys that he is heading on a solo tour across the U.S. this fall. Marking Carter’s first solo tour in seven years, the upcoming Who I Am tour will have the 14-show run throughout October. Tickets go on general sale Friday, July 21.

Some exciting news! I’m heading out this fall on the Who I Am Tour‼️ I spoke to ⁦ @billboard ⁩ about the tour and more. Read it here and I hope to see you on the road: https://t.co/hFyEqWzQzk — Nick Carter (@nickcarter) July 17, 2023

Kicking off on October 4 in Lexington, KY, the tour will make stops in 13 more cities including Nashville, TN, Wilmington, NC, Orlando, FL, Tempe, AZ and more until wrapping in Las Vegas, NV on October 25.

Who I Am tour is designed to comprise of Carter’s solo tracks and new songs along with Backstreet Boys favorites. First revealed via Billboard , the tour aims to capture the music, the stories and the journey that, fittingly, made Carter who he is.

“I was born in 1980 and there was a lot of music that influenced me throughout the years to be one of the members of the Backstreet Boys. So, I’m going to perform a lot of songs that I love,” he says of what fans can expect from the 14-show run.

Following the release of their latest album DNA in 2019, Backstreet Boys toured the world over the course of the past four years. Carter expressed the motivation behind the decision of performing more instead of taking a break after a long worldwide tour in simple words: “I love music.” He tells Billboard: “When I got back home and was finally able to be with the family, it was so amazing, but I’m a musician, I’m a performer. I love music, and so I decided that I wanted to get back on the road and do what I love.”

He hints that his upcoming tour is going to differ from the Backstreet Boys shows, revealing he’ll be playing drums throughout the show which will have a bit more creative personal expression and be a little bit more organic.

Carter has delivered three solo albums so far, titled Now or Never, I’m Taking Off and All American .

Nick Carter, originally from Backstreet Boys is still doing his thing as a singer songwriter. He has released two solo albums to date, “Now Or Never” and “I’m Taking Off”. I’ve got to give credit where it’s due and I can definitely confirm that this singer songwriter still has a fantastic voice. Tonight, he is performing work from his album “I’m Taking Off”. This is quite a “different performance to watch. The theatrics are like none I have ever seen before. Carter walks onstage as though he is an astronaut with all the gear on him ready to go, the audience are in absolute hysteria. They scream all the way through his set. One of my favourite things about his set is that he is performing with a live band playing a PRS electric guitar. His opening song “I’m Taking Off” is a huge pop rock song that is pretty close to “It’s My Life” by Bon Jovi in terms of the huge hooks that draw you in as a listener. “Blow Your Mind” is another song similar to “I’m Taking Off”, that is essentially driven by guitars throughout, but of course it features some huge hooks.

About Nick Carter

Sparking his career at the age of 12 years old, Nick Carter became an international pop superstar as the youngest member of iconic boy band, Backstreet Boys. Carter’s 23-year entertainment career has spanned far beyond the stages of sold-out arenas, with an array of projects in television and film, as well as a philanthropist and author.

To date, the Backstreet Boys are the best-selling boy band in history and are one of the world’s best-selling music artists of all time. In 2002, Carter released his debut solo album, Now or Never, through Jive Records, which debuted at #17 on the Billboard 200 chart and was certified Gold in the U.S., Japan and Canada.

Throughout the years, Nick has remained a beloved figure in popular culture, touring with the Backstreet Boys for their “DNA World Tour” beginning in April 2022 and now setting off on his solo “Who I Am” Tour in 2023.

Nick Carter Takes Fans on a Journey Through the ’80s with his ‘Who I Am’ Tour

Nick Carter (Photo credit: Brian Doherty)

Nick Carter is on the road solo for his “Who I Am” Tour, a show that carries fans through a personal journey with recognizable songs from the ’80s and early ’90s, Backstreet Boys hits, and tracks from Carter’s solo albums.

I recently attended the show at the Wilson Center in Wilmington, NC, just one of many stops in the “Who I Am” Tour, and it was one heck of a good time. Every performance was energetic and felt like a love letter to fans just as much as it showcased Carter’s own journey.

He even talked quite a bit about how much it meant to connect with fans in such a personal way.

The concept behind the show itself is brilliant. It incorporates music from the year he was born up until the time he first met the Backstreet Boys in the early ’90s, along with the Backstreet Boys songs and solo tracks. It traces his entire life and the 30 years he’s been a performer.

Doing this kept the audience excited throughout the show, and mixing in the kinds of songs from the ’80s and early ’90s that everyone could sing along to was a great way for Carter to showcase his many talents.

There was plenty of singing and dancing, and he also played guitar along with a full band, showing he could rock just as much as he could sing a tender love ballad. There were even a few costume changes.

Carter began the show with “Larger than Life” by the Backstreet Boys , then followed with familiar ’80s covers “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” and, after throwing on a pair of sunglasses, “Sunglasses at Night.” Every cover felt organic and natural, with Carter throwing himself soulfully into every performance.

The singer stated ahead of the tour that one of his goals was to create new memories with fans, and he certainly did that during this show. He also previewed that there would be a few surprises , and well, he wasn’t kidding.

Perhaps one of the most surprising moments of the night was when Carter belted out “You Shook Me All Night Long,” by AC/DC , genuinely capturing the raspy, high-pitched singing style of Brian Johnson.  As I said, Carter was really showing off his many talents!

Other songs included “Get Over Me” from his third solo album, All American , “With or Without You” by U2, “Wanted Dead or Alive” by Bon Jovi, and “I Want it That Way” by the Backstreet Boys , among others.

For a few songs, he offered personal feelings and anecdotes.

Before singing Don Henley’s “Dirty Laundry,” for example, he asked the audience to listen carefully to the lyrics. “Sometimes you wanna say something, but you just can’t say it, but you can say it through a song,” Carter said.

And before performing “Sharp Dressed Man,” he described his first time seeing ZZ Top on TV. He was a young boy watching the MTV Music Awards. “These three guys in these really long beards came on,” he recalled, “And I think they scared the entire stage.”

As part of a segment dedicated entirely to love songs, Carter sang “Right Here Waiting” by Richard Marx. He then shared that he performed a Richard Marx song for his audition to be in the Backstreet Boys , which got him the gig. So, this was a bit of an ode to Marx.

Carter’s most emotional moment of the night was his performance of one of “Hurts to Love You,” a single released early this year, a few months after the death of his brother, Aaron Carter.

“As time has gone by and we’ve gone through life together, and things have happened to all of us, we share those stories together,” Carter said. “Through music, you hear other peoples’ stories as well. And this song right here is a very important song that I have written recently. So I hope you like it.”

His performance of this song was deeply powerful and heartfelt, with the song itself being full of raw emotion.

Carter also performed an upcoming single, “Made for Us,” and his most recently released single, “Superman,” which fans were already more than capable of singing along to.

However, one of the best fan moments was at the end of the night, when Carter performed “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back).”

It was not only a fun and energetic way to end the night, but it was one that truly got the audience involved. The entire crowd was able to do the fan chant at the beginning of the song, and the feeling in the room was one of real camaraderie.

The evening was truly unforgettable. And even though Carter shared the history of his 30 years performing, in a lot of ways, it feels like the singer is just getting started.

One Year Ago Today (April 12, 2023)…Nick Carter Accused of Sex Assault in New Lawsuit

One Year Ago Today (April 12, 2023)…A former member of the girl band Dream is suing Backstreet Boys singer Nick Carter, alleging he raped her in his Santa Monica apartment in 2003, an allegation Carter has previously denied.

Melissa Schuman filed suit in Santa Monica on Tuesday, alleging sexual battery, sexual assault and intentional infliction of emotional distress. Schuman first went public with her allegations against Carter in 2017.

In her lawsuit, Schuman claims Carter invited her to his Santa Monica apartment in 2003, while both were working on filming a teen horror film called “The Hollow.” The lawsuit contends that Carter, who was with a male friend, invited her over to “hang out and play video games.”

Schuman went to his apartment with her roommate, and while there, Carter began making cocktails, and the lawsuit contends he put some type of drug in her drink. Carter led her to a back office under the pretense of sharing some new music he was working on, but he began sexually assaulting her, eventually raping her in a bedroom, the lawsuit states.

In a statement Wednesday to “Entertainment Tonight,” Carter’s attorney again denied Schuman’s allegations.

“Melissa Schuman has been peddling this tale for many years,” attorney Liane Wakayama said in a statement. “But her allegation was false when she first made it back in 2017, and it still is.”

In February, Carter filed a lawsuit of his own against Schuman and another woman — Shannon “Shay” Ruth — who took legal action against the singer in December claiming he raped her when she was a teenager in 2001. Carter’s lawsuit accused both women of orchestrating an extortion scheme by making false allegations of sexual assault. The suit contended that both women were working to “harass, defame and extort Carter,” in the process costing the Backstreet Boys millions of dollars in revenues due to the allegations.

Ruth, who announced her Nevada lawsuit against Carter in December during a Beverly Hills news conference, claims Carter raped her in a tour bus after a Backstreet Boys concert in Tacoma, Washington, when she was just 17. She alleges the singer gave her what he called “VIP Juice,” then sexually assaulted her.

Michael Holtz, an attorney for Carter at the time, released a statement that called the allegation “not only legally meritless but also entirely untrue.”

“Unfortunately, for several years now, Ms. Ruth has been manipulated into making false allegations against Nick, and those allegations have changed repeatedly and materially over time,” he said. “No one should be fooled by a press stunt orchestrated by an opportunistic lawyer. There is nothing to this claim whatsoever, which we have no doubt the courts will quickly realize.”

Attorneys for Schuman contend that Carter has engaged in a pattern of “online intimidation” against Schuman in an effort to discredit her allegations against the singer. The lawsuit claims Carter used his “fan engagement team to encourage (Carter’s) dedicated fan base to engage in internet intimidation in an effort to intimidate, blame, harass and discredit plaintiff online.”

In a statement released by her attorneys, Schuman said, “I’ve faced extraordinary backlash for standing up for myself. I am not the first, however, my intention is that I am the last. It’s time that powerful figures in the music industry get the message that they can no longer afford to enable and protect sexual predators. I’m fighting to make the music industry a safer place to work and perform.”

  • Fri Oct 20, 2023 at 8PM Friday, October 20, 2023 at 8PM Buy Now

Sparking his career at the age of 12 years old, NICK CARTER  became an international pop superstar as the youngest member of iconic boy band, Backstreet Boys. Carter’s 30-year entertainment career has spanned far beyond the stages of sold-out arenas, with an array of projects in television and film, as well as a philanthropist and author.

This debut marked the beginning of a successful solo career alongside his Backstreet Boys fame, with Carter releasing three studio albums to date. Throughout the years, Nick has remained a beloved figure in popular culture, touring with the Backstreet Boys for their “DNA World Tour” beginning in April 2022 and now setting off on his solo “Who I Am” Tour in 2023, which will follow the release of his new music.

Irmo theater cancels Nick Carter show. The Chronicle talked with him beforehand

Nick Carter was scheduled to play the Harbison Theatre at Midlands Technical College Oct. 9. That concert is now canceled.

When the Chronicle spoke to Nick Carter, he was scheduled to play the Harbison Theatre Oct. 9.

The singer was coming to the venue, a 400-capacity space on the Irmo campus of Midlands Technical College that consistently punches above its weight, as part of his Who I Am tour, his first solo run since 2017.

The paper spoke with the Backstreet Boys singer under the condition that there would be no questions about recent sexual assault allegations made against him. A suit filed in August alleges that he repeatedly sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl when he was about 23. That suit follows an April suit by actor and singer Melissa Schuman following up on her accusations that she was sexually assaulted by Carter when she was 18, and a 2022 suit brought by another victim who accused Carter of forcing sex on her when she was 17.

Carter has steadfastly denied the allegations.

“ Obviously, there’s a legal process going on right now, so I can’t get into too much detail, but I will say that I’m really pleased with the way things are going,” he said in a provided statement. “I’m a strong believer in our legal system, and I’m confident that justice will be done. When all of this is over, I look forward to being able to talk more about it.”

After talking with Carter, the Chronicle reached out to the Harbison Theatre to see if it wished to comment about booking him in light of the allegations. Three days later — on Monday, Oct. 2 — the college announced that Carter’s performance was canceled.

“Midlands Technical College is unable to speak on the pending litigation involving Nick Carter,” the school said in a statement. “While the due process plays out, Harbison Theatre has canceled the show scheduled for Monday, October 9, 2023. The Theatre will honor refunds to all ticket holders.”

A spokesperson for the college pointed out that it’s not alone, sending links to three other scheduled Carter dates in October that have been canceled — including one on the campus of Arizona State University.

In the interview with Carter, the Chronicle was also barred from asking about his brother Aaron Carter, who died last year, drowning in a bathtub after taking an inhalent and an anxiety medication after persistent struggles with addiction. The brothers had a strained relationship, including allegations of abuse that Nick has denied. Nick did talk to the Chronicle about “Hurts to Love You,” a single he released as a tribute to Aaron earlier this year.

The interview has been edited for length and clarity.

The Chronicle: This is your first solo tour since 2017. Why is now the time?

Nick Carter: As an artist, as an entertainer, as a musician, it's just natural to want to perform. You kind of start to get the itch when you're sitting back home a little bit. You get creative. I write a lot of solo music and have things that I'd love to say through that music. When you’re in a group, it's a committee of people who all have to be on the same page. So you just have a little bit more creative control and freedom on your own.

And for me, you know, I love performing, getting on stage and live-performing and being with the band, picking up a guitar, playing some drums, singing songs.

This whole tour that I'm going to do right now, I'm singing a lot more cover songs than I've ever done on my own. And I'm doing that because the theme is pretty much taking you back to a really good time performing music. It was Jan. 28, 1980 when I was born, and all the music that made me who I am, that influenced me, that inspired me, all that stuff that was on MTV at the time when I was between 1 and 10 and into the ’90s, all that stuff. Those things I'll perform in the show — covers, hits — I like to say I grew up with that music. And then a lot of the people who were around my same age did as well.

On this tour,  you’re playing some more intimate rooms — particularly here in Irmo. What appeals to you about playing a smaller house?

We just got off tour with the Boys, and it was a four-year tour. We were playing 20,000-seat arenas. If you were sitting at the back of one of the Backstreet Boys concerts, you know, you get good music and good entertainment. It's this big old show. But you're not really that close.

I love smaller venues. As an artist, as a performer, you love those things. You love the idea of being able to see all the faces and it just being a very intimate setting, and then with a live band, that's the true meaning of performing and music and being a musician.

You posted about your recent single “Hurts to Love You”: “We all have someone in our lives that no matter what they do and how bad it hurts you still love them.” Why did you feel like it was important to put out a song exploring that kind of grief?

I've heard so many stories of people who have come up to me, you know, if I'm out and just public by myself, and then be like, “That song and the story resonated with me.” They thank me for that, because a lot of people don't want to talk about mental health. They don’t want to talk about it being a real thing — you know, addictions and mental health, and all those things that kind of compound together to create tragedy.

I'll have someone come up and say, “I had a brother or a sister who has passed away. And I've gone through the exact same thing that you've gone through.” I think it's a bigger story. I think it's something that, again, no one wants to talk about, necessarily. And so when I did it, when I wrote the song, and I sang the song, it came from a place of grief, a place of pain, a place of hurt, a place of no other way other than to write a song and make music to be able to get that out.

Nick Carter Sexual-Assault Allegations Get Louder

is nick carter still on tour

On August 28, a woman identified in court papers as A.R. filed a lawsuit against Nick Carter alleging that the Backstreet Boys singer had sexually abused her multiple times starting when she was 15. A.R.’s civil case, filed in Las Vegas court, marks the third lawsuit against Carter alleging sexual abuse or assault. In April 2023, actor and Dream singer Melissa Schuman sued Carter accusing him of sexual assault in harassment. This case was preceded by Shannon “Shay” Ruth’s lawsuit in December 2022 accusing Carter of forced sex when she was 17.

As the chorus of allegations against Carter grows louder, he has continued to deny accusations of wrongdoing — and framed the accusers as colluding against him. Following A.R.’s complaint, one of Carter’s attorneys, Dale Hayes Jr., told the Daily Mail : “Nick is looking forward to the evidence being presented and the truth about these malicious schemes coming to light.” Adding to the legal drama: Carter has sued Ruth and Schuman alleging conspiracy. “Since November 2017, Carter has become the target of a small opportunistic group of conspirators engaged in a harassing, defamatory and otherwise tortious campaign to ruin his reputation for the purpose of advancing their own agendas,” Carter’s counter-claim alleges. “The effect of this group’s unlawful conduct and continued harassment has taken an immense toll on Carter, his family, and his band, both emotionally and financially.”

Who is A.R.?

The woman identified in court papers as A.R. claimed that Carter sexually abused her starting in August 2003, when he was approximately 23 years old. A.R. claimed that she, along with Carter’s friends and family, were on his yacht in Marathon, Florida. She alleges that Carter brought her to the yacht’s cabin and got her drunk. Carter “kissed” A.R. and, shortly thereafter, he engaged in oral and vaginal sex. “Carter knowingly engaged in these and other sexual acts with the then-minor A.R. without her consent,” court papers charge. Carter allegedly told A.R. to keep the encounter “a secret.” Several days later, A.R. alleges, Carter encouraged her to meet him on the tour bus of his Florida property.

On the bus, A.R. alleges in court papers, he “coerced” her into performing oral sex. A.R. claimed that there was yet another incident in late October of that year, also on Carter’s yacht. She said in court papers that Carter goaded three other men to watch him having sex with A.R. from a window. A.R., who was “intoxicated,” made “repeated refusals and requests for him to stop” to no avail. A.R. claims that Carter infected her with HPV and that she and her mother reported the alleged incidents to police in York County, Pennsylvania, in December 2003. A.R. is claiming sexual battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and negligent infliction of emotional distress in her suit. “This case illustrates how much time, courage, and perseverance it takes for victims and survivors to come forward about child sexual abuse and seek justice,” Margaret Mabie, an attorney with Marsh Law Firm representing A.R., said in a statement announcing the lawsuit . “Despite numerous complaints about Carter’s past conduct towards young women, his victims continue to struggle to hold Nick Cater publicly accountable for his harms against them.”

“We hope that A.R. receives some measure of justice and that this lawsuit will pave the way for other survivors to hold their abusers to account,” Mabie commented in the statement .

What is Melissa Schuman’s allegation?

According to Schuman’s lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles, she and Carter worked together as cast members of the teen horror film The Hollow in early 2003. Prior to working on this film, the two had interacted before and Schuman’s managers encouraged her to date Carter after he remarked that she was “cute.” Schuman and Carter had a phone conversation, and she told her managers that she wasn’t interested, court papers claim. On set one day, Carter invited Schuman over to his apartment to “hang out and play video games.” Schuman and a friend went to his Santa Monica apartment. When they got there, he and a “male friend” invited them to go to the liquor store with them. They got back to his apartment and Carter started making drinks. Carter allegedly asked Schuman if she wanted to hear some of his new music.

Carter, Schuman alleges, led her into his office. He pulled her against him and started kissing her. “At 18 years old, Plaintiff felt self-conscious, intimidated, and sexually inexperienced; she had only ever kissed one other boy. Defendant Carter knew that she was a virgin and that she held to religious, conservative Christian values,” the suit alleges. Carter then brought her into the bathroom and forced oral sex on her, the suit alleges. Carter ultimately brought her into another bathroom and then a bedroom, where he forced himself on her. “Again and again, Plaintiff said NO! She told him over and over that she was a virgin, that she was saving herself for her future husband, and that she did not want to have sex,” the suit alleges. “Defendant Carter continued to force himself on her, whispering in her ear that he could be her husband. Plaintiff could not get away from him, he was too heavy.” Schuman said that she told multiple people about the alleged incident, including “her talent manager, her mother, her father, her therapist, a former co-star, and others about Defendant Carter’s sexual assaults.” She also alleges that Carter gave her HPV and started to “manipulate and torment” her after the alleged incident.

Why did Shannon “Shay” Ruth sue Carter?

In December, Ruth accused Carter of sexually assaulting her on his tour bus following a Tacoma, Washington, concert in 2001; she made these allegations during a December 8 press conference. She was 17 at the time of the alleged assault. On the bus, she alleges, Carter gave her a “funny-tasting beverage that he called VIP juice,” attorney Mark Boskovich claimed. He then led her into the bus’ bathroom and instructed her to “get on her knees, and he pulled down his pants and exposed his genitals, ordering Shay to perform sexual acts on him.” Ruth, who didn’t have any sexual experience, cried. She alleges that Carter raped her on the bed of the tour bus. “The last 21 years have been filled with pain, confusion, frustration, shame, and self-harm that are a direct result of Nick Carter raping me,” Ruth remarked at the press conference. “Even though I’m autistic with cerebral palsy, I believe that nothing has affected me more or had a more lasting impact on my life than what Nick Carter did and said to me.” Ruth claimed that after the alleged rape, “I remember him calling me a ‘retarded bitch’ and grabbing me and leaving bruises on my arm.”

How has Carter responded to the allegations?

Carter denies wrongdoing and frames some of the claims as part of a sprawling conspiracy against him. With A.R., Hayes claims that police “’listened [to] and thoroughly investigated’ her allegations at the time she brought them, and told her that they ‘were meritless,’” per the Mail . He also remarked that “repeating the same false allegations in a new legal complaint doesn’t make them any more true.” Carter has also gone on the legal attack against Schuman and Ruth. Before Schuman filed her lawsuit, Carter sued her on February 2, alleging that she “conspired against him to extort money and gain fame.” He is also suing Ruth, alleging that she’s part of this conspiracy. If this legal strategy sounds familiar, that’s because it is. . It’s not uncommon for alleged sexual abusers to sue their accusers. Carter’s reps did not respond to Vulture’s request for comment.

Have other members of the Backstreet Boys commented on the allegations?

After Ruth came forward with allegations against Carter, band member AJ McLean said that the Backstreet Boys were supportive of him. “We all stand behind Nick, and we all fully support him. He’s doing as great as he can. [Backstreet Boys] couldn’t be more solid,” the Daily Mail quoted McLean as saying. This does appear to be true; the band’s years-long DNA World Tour wrapped in May 2023. In July, Carter announced a solo tour starting in October.

What do Schuman and Ruth’s lawyers say about Carter’s lawsuit?

Karen Barth Menzies, one of Schuman’s lawyers, pointed out that a judge’s decision allowing Carter’s lawsuit to go forward was just procedural and didn’t mean anything about the merits of his case. “Melissa Schuman has brought her allegations for sexual assault against Carter in a case in California. The merits of those allegations will be decided in the case in California,” Barth Menzies said. “This so-called ‘counterclaim’ that Carter brought does not address Melissa’s sexual assault claims — he is raising conspiracy claims against her based on his position that Melissa got other survivors to bring lawsuits against him to extort money.” Asked for comment, Boskovitch compared the Carter allegations to the recent Danny Masterson case. “No one with fame and money is above the law. We look forward to the truth coming out, the jury hearing all the facts and rendering a favorable verdict.”

Will Beyoncé announce the 'Cowboy Carter' tour? Fans think she may be hitting the road again soon

  • Beyoncé released her new album "Cowboy Carter" on Friday.
  • Some fans think she's gearing up to tour again, though many say they don't have the funds to attend.
  • The Renaissance World Tour wrapped last October in Kansas City. It was hailed as a must-see event.

Insider Today

Less than a year after the Renaissance World Tour wrapped, it might already be time for the Beyhive to dust off their boots and head back out to see Beyoncé live again.

The Renaissance World Tour was hailed as a once-in-a-lifetime event , a bona fide status symbol , and a blockbuster concert movie that awed audiences while near-singlehandedly boosting AMC's revenue . The 56-show run wrapped on October 1, 2023, in Kansas City.

On its heels, Beyoncé has released her new album " Cowboy Carter ." The triumphant country-inspired project is billed as "Act II" in a three-part "Renaissance" series.

So it would stand to reason — financially and thematically — that Beyoncé would plan another tour leg for "Cowboy Carter."

Her team seemed to hint that something is coming by launching a new website, " Been Country ." The landing page shows a photo of young Beyoncé performing at the Texas Sweetheart Pageant, as well as a childhood photo of her mother, Tina Knowles-Lawson , and an image of a banjo.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Slayonce Avenue (@slayonce_avenue2)

A fan account on Instagram shared a rumor that the tour announcement is scheduled for Friday, exactly one week after the album's arrival. Knowles-Lawson liked the post, adding more fuel to the rumor's flame.

Beyoncé's longtime collaborator The-Dream, who produced 10 of the new album's 27 tracks, also alluded to a forthcoming tour. He celebrated the release of "Cowboy Carter" on X, writing, "This tour bout to B' Incredible!"

Fans grabbed screenshots of The-Dream's post, though it has since been deleted.

However, the six-month turnaround since Beyoncé's last concert does cast suspicion on these theories. Thanks to "Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé," we know the Renaissance World Tour took four years to ideate and execute.

It's unclear if plans for a "Cowboy Carter" show were also in the works during that time, but if not, fans may have to wait a bit longer to watch Beyoncé perform. As she's already made clear, " A queen moves at her own pace ."

Even so, a delay may come as welcome news, even for dedicated members of the Beyhive.

Many fans have been posting about their lack of ticket funds on X, playfully begging Beyoncé to put off touring until next year.

Carter Starocci pulled off an incredible feat — could an Olympic berth be next?

Carter Starocci

Chris Starocci saw the look on his son’s face in late February as fans inside Penn State’s Rec Hall quickly went from gleeful to panicked.

Carter Starocci, one of head coach Cael Sanderson’s most prolific wrestlers in a long line of great ones, was down on the mat, writhing in pain as he grabbed his right knee. The crowd fell silent. What was supposed to be a celebratory sendoff for the 174-pounder on senior day would instead become another hurdle to clear in the fascinating collegiate career of Penn State’s first four-time NCAA champion.

“It definitely wasn’t looking good,” Chris said. “I tried to hold it together as best as possible for him because I saw how devastated he was. … I was just hoping that whatever it was he’d be able to overcome it. If he was gonna give it a go or if his season was gonna be over, I just wanted him to have the strength to fight.”

Starocci suffered what those close to him say was certainly the most significant injury of his career. He won his second NCAA title in 2022 with a broken hand, but that paled in comparison to trying to wrestle with an undisclosed knee injury. The bulky brace and wrap at the NCAA championships made it obvious that Carter wasn’t himself. Commentator and 2012 Olympic gold medalist Jordan Burroughs even suggested that opponents should try to attack Starocci’s leg, which didn’t sit well with many, including Starocci’s former teammate Bo Nickal .

Starocci was asked last month in Kansas City, minutes after winning his fourth NCAA title, if he did so while competing with a torn ACL. He quickly and confidently replied, “No comment.”

“After my freshman year, after I won (my first NCAA title), I went in the office of Coach Cael, and he said this first one’s going to be your easiest one,” Starocci recalled. “I looked at him like, ‘I don’t know about that.’ I plan on getting better and making this thing easier. But sure enough, now looking back on it, I would say each one has their own challenges.”

Starocci’s celebration, where he raised team trainer Dan Monthley’s hand immediately after winning, was a reminder of all that transpired behind the scenes as Carter rehabbed around the clock for what might’ve been his final appearance in college.

This man revived me and my dreams . Forever owe this man. I believed in you every step of the way. To one of my best friends. Thank you ! ❤️💪🏽 https://t.co/ZSDfNcaW0s — Carter Starocci (@carterstarocci) March 25, 2024

Starocci does have an extra year of eligibility should he want to chase a fifth NCAA title, but for now, his sights are still set on wrestling at the U.S. Olympic Trials in State College, Pa., on April 19 and 20. He’s been eyeing the Olympics for a long time — more so than even that fourth NCAA title. He plans to compete in the 74 kg (163 pounds) weight class, in which 2020 Olympic bronze medalist Kyle Dake, former Penn State three-time NCAA champion Jason Nolf and Burroughs are among the contenders.

“It’s just bad timing for the whole thing,” Chris Starocci said, “but he’s in a position where he wants to do something, and he doesn’t like being told what to do.”

The four-week turnaround from NCAAs to the trials is far from ideal for collegiate wrestlers, let alone one dealing with a knee injury. Starocci will have to seek permission from USA Wrestling’s tournament medical coordinator to compete wearing a knee brace. Should it not be approved, he would have to resort to an alternative like heavy taping. Getting as comfortable as possible while wrestling through this injury hasn’t been easy.

“It took a village,” Chris said. “Leading up to NCAAs, he didn’t even practice. Practicing was out. Then, you start thinking in your mind, ‘OK, now making weight is going to be an issue because he’s not practicing, he’s not sweating. His conditioning is going to be an issue, so if he gets into a tight match and guys are going at it giving everything they got, is his conditioning going to fail because he’s not working out?'”

In the lead-up to the NCAA championships, Chris sent his son scouting reports, as he’s done since Carter was a boy. Little details, like if potential opponents are left- or right-hand dominant, should be considered, Chris said. Once Carter decided that he was wrestling at NCAAs no matter what, Chris reminded Carter that he needed to do all he could to stay two steps ahead because of the injury.

He’d have to retrain his mind to avoid going to certain positions that when healthy feel natural. Getting caught in one funky position and being unable to respond like usual could be costly for a title defense. This same reprogramming won’t be any easier at the trials.

“NCAA titles, all that stuff comes and goes,” Carter said last month. “I just truly enjoy just beating on guys. I can’t do this forever, so as I’m doing it, I want to make sure I take everybody out and do it again and again. That’s what’s fun for me.”

What Starocci did that weekend in Kansas City as he stormed through the bracket with an at-large bid, seeded ninth after being held out of the Big Ten championship because of the injury, will go down in Penn State history as one of the most impressive performances in any sport. Nine days before becoming the sixth wrestler all-time to win four individual NCAA titles — Penn State teammate and fellow Olympic hopeful Aaron Brooks would join him in the exclusive club, the first pair of teammates to ever be four-time champions — Starocci said he wasn’t even walking.

Carter Starocci

Chris, like every other wrestling fan in T-Mobile Center that weekend, said he showed up unsure how Carter would perform. He hoped that mentally the injury wouldn’t bog down his mind. He even wondered how much sleep Carter had gotten in the previous weeks because he had been so dedicated to rehabbing. Carter said he weighed in a little heavier than he wanted ahead of the final session but had Sanderson sweating alongside him as he rode the bike.

What Chris did know about his son is that once Carter was on the mat, he wouldn’t be an easy out. Even if the Olympics were still the main goal — and Carter said he told doctors as much — he wasn’t going to bow out of NCAAs.

Even after the coaching staff held him out of the Big Ten tournament, Starocci took to X to fire off his anger with the decision. In 2023, during the chase for his third NCAA title, he said he didn’t just want to win but wanted to do so while “taking souls” of those he beat.

“He’s a tough kid,” Sanderson said this season. “He’s always been a ferocious competitor. And even when he, you know, didn’t wrestle well, maybe he was sick or maybe he just didn’t manage his weight right or sometimes you just aren’t the best that day, he still gives a great effort. He’s a very, very special competitor.”

There’s also the unwavering belief in himself — whether with one good leg or two — that could’ve, probably should’ve, been shaken headed into NCAAs. It wasn’t. Instead, Starocci publicly vowed ahead of the tournament that this was his weight class and he wanted to take out everyone in the bracket. He did just that and even dispatched two NCAA champs along the way — bouncing Virginia Tech’s Mekhi Lewis and Michigan’s Shane Griffith in the quarterfinals and semifinals, respectively — before taking down Ohio State’s Rocco Welsh in the championship match.

Back home in Erie, Pa., Chris would tell all his kids growing up that, when they won anything, they were champions for a day. While most freshmen in high school would’ve been content finishing in eighth place at the ultra-competitive PIAA state wrestling tournament, Carter did so and immediately holed up in his bedroom for more than a month.

He had minimal communication with his family during that span. He would come home from school and head to his room. Chris worried about his son’s mental health until one day Carter came out of the room and had mapped out several changes. He was quitting football — which until then was his top sport, Chris said — and was committing himself to being the best wrestler.

“He told me what foods to buy, what kind of practice schedule he wanted to do,” Chris said. “He said, ‘Stop buying this stuff, stop buying that stuff. This is the stuff I need you to have in the house, Dad, and if you can’t do it, I’ll go live with somebody else.'”

The football coach called and asked if Carter would reconsider. It wasn’t up for discussion. Pizza, wings, Doritos, cakes, sweets and occasional fast food would have to go. He’d eat better meals and organic foods. Chris, with the exception of hiding occasional treats from his son, would also eat better to help Carter with his plan. He’d finish as a state runner-up as a sophomore before winning titles in his junior and senior years.

“I think we gotta take him for his word when he says he doesn’t do this for championships and titles,” Chris said. “He does it to know that there isn’t another man that can beat him, and I think that’s what motivates him. I think, in his mind, when he takes somebody out he expects that, he’s proud of that, and then he’s on to the next one.”

In this case, the next challenge will be as grueling as they come. Between cutting 11 pounds and wrestling against the best in the nation while not at full health, it’ll be a long shot to try and pull off an Olympic berth.

But Starocci isn’t wired to think this way and never has been. It’s why Chris is certain Carter is again dialed in, busy mapping out the most important wrestling plan of his career.

Masters 2024 predictions, odds, top picks, props: Golf insider targeting Sam Burns at Augusta National

Golf insider patrick mcdonald has revealed his 2024 masters picks, pga best bets and props for augusta national.

sam-burns.jpg

Tee times for the 2024 Masters are delayed by two-and-a-half hours on Thursday due to inclement weather. Once play begins, the featured group, as usual, will include Tiger Woods. He will tee off from Augusta National alongside Jason Day and Max Homa for the first two days. Day and Homa are no slouches in their own right, as Day is a former World No. 1, while Homa is a six-time winner on the PGA Tour. However, the star attraction is Woods, even though he's a massive 100-1 longshot in the 2024 Masters odds. Woods revealed this week that he "aches every day" following his assortment of injuries and surgeries, but he will still factor into plenty of 2024 Masters bets from both diehard and casual golf fans.

The 2024 Masters favorites include Scottie Scheffler (13-4) Rory McIlroy (10-1) and Brooks Koepka (11-1). Before locking in any 2024 Masters picks or golf predictions, you need to see what proven golf betting expert Patrick McDonald has to say , considering his recent track record.

McDonald joined CBS Sports as a golf writer in 2022 after stops at NBC Sports and RyderCup.com. Covering the sport from a broader perspective, McDonald still likes to dip his toes into the betting pools on a weekly basis between the PGA Tour, DP World Tour, and more. Featured weekly on the Early Wedge, he has given out numerous winners already in 2024, including Jake Knapp (50-1) at the Mexico Open.

Now, McDonald has focused his attention on the 2024 Masters field and has locked in his best bets, top sleepers and favorites to avoid. You can see only see them at SportsLine .

Top 2024 Masters expert picks

One stunning prediction from McDonald: He is high on Sam Burns, even though he is a 50-1 longshot. In just his second Masters appearance last year, Burns shot par or better in three rounds and was in sixth place after Round 2 before tailing off. This season, he's placed in the top 10 in half of his eight events, including a third place at the Phoenix Open. He's hit his stride since 2021, with five PGA Tour victories and another five top-three finishes during this stretch.

Burns is masterful with his putter, ranking ninth in putting average, and is averaging the second-most birdies on tour. Plus, he doesn't just hit strong shots, he dodges bad ones, as he ranks in the top 10 in bogey avoidance. Burns ranks sixth on the PGA Tour in scoring average (actual), yet falls outside the top 25 in terms of shortest 2024 Masters odds. There's extreme value in utilizing him with golf bets and PGA predictions for Augusta, according to McDonald.  See who else to back here .

How to make 2024 Masters picks, bets

McDonald is also jumping on an underdog who's had plenty of success at Augusta National but is still listed at more than 100-1 to win it all.  You can only see his 2024 Masters picks at SportsLine .

So, which players should you target or avoid for the 2024 Masters, and which proven golfer in the Masters 2024 field could bring a monster payday of almost 100-1?
