What’s the Earliest You Should Schedule a Flight After a Cruise?

What time should you book your flight home after a cruise? Our rule of thumb is to schedule your flight home no earlier than five hours after your ship docks at its homeport . But there are cases where you can make a flight that departs much earlier.

Why so much time? Truth is, there’s a dramatic difference between the day you get on the ship and the day you get off.

What time to schedule a flight after a cruise

On cruise day, everyone is excited to board. Lots of passengers arrive early, standing in line for the opportunity to board early and be among the first on the ship. Show up early and it might take some time to get aboard. But show up later in the day and the boarding process can take just minutes and you’ll hardly see another person in the terminal.

Debarkation day is completely different.

At that point, people can’t wait to get off the ship. They wake up early and stand in line for hours to get off the ship first and head back home. The result can be long lines and waits in some cases, meaning if you are in a rush to catch a flight, the stress can be high.

The Process of Getting Off a Cruise Ship

In our experience, getting off the ship once a cruise has ended is much more time-consuming than boarding.

That’s because before the ship can let passengers off, it has to be cleared by authorities to start debarking. And even then, once you depart the ship you now have to go through customs and immigration to declare anything you bought while you were abroad and be checked back into the country. Combine this delay with thousands of people trying to leave at once and you’ve got a recipe for long waits.

The good news is that many ports are speeding up the debarkation process .

First, ships have “self-assist” debarkation. This allows passengers who can carry all their luggage with them to depart first. So if you have an early flight and can carry all your bags, then you can be among the first to get off the ship.

The major issue is that most people seem to opt for this method, instead of waiting to leave later in the morning and not carry their luggage. We’ve seen lines around the ship first thing in the morning that took 1.5 hours to get off the ship and out of the terminal.

Line to get off a cruise ship in port

Other passengers wait for their selected debarkation time (the ship will assign a time to all passengers the day before the ship arrives home). While this means you won’t get off the ship first, the process of actually leaving is usually faster since the lines are shorter by that time.

Second, most ports have switched to a facial recognition technology that dramatically speeds up getting through the terminal. It used to be you had to wait in line to meet with a border agent who would check your citizenship documents.

These days, you can often just take a photo that documents you leaving the ship and then walk right off. Note that if you are traveling with a birth certificate instead of a passport, this option isn’t always available.

When to Schedule Your Flight Home

What this all means is that getting off the ship can sometimes take literally minutes. Other times, if can take hours. The good news is that debarking these days tends to be relatively quick.

In any case, given that it can take a considerable amount of time to get off the ship, what time should you book your departing flight?

We recommend scheduling a flight no earlier than five hours after your ship arrives back at home for most cruise ports . However, the absolute bare minimum should be no more than three hours before the ship returns (though we definitely suggest more time).

So if your ship is scheduled to get back home at 7:00 a.m., your flight shouldn’t leave any earlier than 12:00 p.m. to give you plenty of time. There will be times that this five hours gives you a ton of extra time at the airport. However, it’s important that you leave yourself a cushion should anything go wrong.

If your ship returns at 7:00 a.m., the absolute earliest we think you can make your flight is 10:00 a.m., but that will be tight.

For some ports, we think you need to allow more time given the distance from the cruise port to the closest major airport.

Things That Could Delay You Getting To Your Flight

Sign for shuttle to the airport from cruise ship

Unfortunately, getting off the ship isn’t just as simple of having it dock and then rolling your suitcase off. There are a number of factors that can delay things, which is why we recommend an ample cushion before your flight.

Weather Delays One of the biggest headaches for a cruise ship is fog. Early morning arrivals in humid port cities are a perfect recipe for delays due to fog. It’s not unheard of for a ship to have to wait off the coast for several hours while the fog lifts before making it to port — especially spots like Galveston, which is notorious for fog in the winter months.

Debarkation Delays We mentioned earlier how there can be huge lines to get off the ship first. With such a rush of people trying to debark at once, it can take up to two hours to make your way off the ship and collect your luggage. Thankfully, that’s a rare occurrence.

If you don’t want to physically wait in line, you can debark later in the day. While that saves you the hassle of just standing around, it doesn’t get you off the ship any earlier.

Customs & Immigration Anything to declare? Even if you don’t, you’ll have to go through customs and immigration. This is another reason why it can take so long to get off the ship.

We’ve seen ports where it’s a breeze to go through, taking almost no time at all. In fact, you literally take a picture as you leave the ship and walk right out. We’ve also seen ports where it’s a major delay that forces you to stand in line for an eternity. Sometimes it seems there are too few agents working, leading to longer delays to get off the ship.

One tip: Many ports have now implemented facial recognition technology for passengers. You simply take a photo, and you are on your way within seconds. Meanwhile, we’ve noticed those with birth certificates sometimes (not always) still have to stand in line and meet with an officer, which takes much longer. Having your passport could save you considerable time .

Getting to the Airport Getting to the airport after your cruise can take 15 minutes or more than an hour. It really depends on the cruise port you are sailing from and traffic.

Cruise ports such as Port Canaveral and Galveston are far away (about an hour drive) from the closest airports. Others like Miami are right near the airport.

If you are flying out of a distant port, remember to add drive time to your schedule. You should also factor in time to get picked up if you are taking a shuttle or other transportation to the airport. This can add an extra 10-15 minutes to your trip.

Airport Security We don’t have to remind you of the potential for long security lines in airports these days. You’ll want to be sure to add in plenty of buffer time to your trip to account for potential delays getting through security and to your flight. This is where services like TSA Pre-Check can save you a lot of time .

You Might Have Plenty of Time at the Airport, But Why Stress?

Ultimately, we think the best thing you can do is pick a flight time that you are comfortable with making. You don’t want to be stressed as you try to make it to the airport. The five-hour cushion should be good if you plan to get off the ship right when it arrives.

If you’d like to plan to have lunch before your flight or take your time arriving at the airport, then plan a little more time.

Passengers sailing from ports with airports close by (meaning a short commute) could likely catch a flight that’s earlier, but keep in mind that adds more risk to catching your plane.

11/10 NCL Ship docking at 0700 at New York Flying out of La Guardia. Cruised several times but usually stay night of disembarkation but unable to do so this time. Our very first cruise(at least 20 years ago) disembarkation was delayed almost 3 hours (don’t remember what port) We are trying to decide if a 1245 flight is possible if I purchase priority access or if we should just plan to carry our bags off ourselves.

12:45 should be doable in my opinion.

Great info! I’m wondering if there is any other reason to book a later flight – in terms of how you feel physically. I’ve never been on a cruise before but I imagine I might feel happy to be on land for a beat before flying. Does that make sense? I’m trying to determine if I should stay overnight in my disembarkation city or if that’s overkill 🙂

Definite overkill. Most cruises you don’t even feel the ocean. If you do feel it, then it’s only occasional.

I actually find I feel the motion of an airplane much more than a cruise ship afterward.

Thank you for the quick reply! I failed to mention I’m going on an Antarctic cruise lol! So there is a good chance of feeling it. But even so, the more I think about it, I’d prefer to just get home rather than wait around that long.

Thanks for the info, Tanner. We are arriving back in Orlando at 6am on the Wonder of the Seas and have an 11am flight scheduled out of MCO. Do you think this will be enough time? Thanks!

If you have TSA Pre-check, I’d think you’re alright. If not, do your best to be the first off, be first on the shuttle, and first off. I think you should be able to do it, but hopefully there are no delays. MCO is actually the airport that convinced me to get pre-check because the regular lines there always seemed long.

If everything goes smoothly, you’ll likely be off the ship and out of security by 8/8:30 a.m., and to the airport by 9:30/10, assuming no delays. That would be plenty of time to get through security and to the plane.

Perfect. Thank you for the quick reply and info!

The cruise ll end its journey on Saturday 6am at Miami and the flight back to Europe is at 11.35am. Do you think it is doable without stress? And what is the best way to go to Miami airport form Miami port?

Thanks in advance Keith

Flying international should be doable at that time, but obviously it will take a touch longer. You’ll likely be off the ship at 8-9 a.m. and then can catch a taxi or Uber/Lyft to the airport and be there by 9:30.

Our HAL cruise docks at 7:00 am in Fort Lauderdale on a Sunday. Do you think an 11:35 am flight from MIA doable?

I think that should be possible.

I think you have already covered this, but to be sure. We get in to Fort Lauderdale Port at 7am and we have a 10:50am flight. Do you think that gives us enough time? The next flight isn’t until 6:20pm and I don’t really want to wait around that long

If flying from Fort Lauderdale, that’s plenty of time. If flying from Miami, it’s tighter, but I think still doable.

Awesome, thank you. We have quite a few in our group and I planned the flight schedule, I don’t want to have a mob on my hands if I chose poorly 🙂

We are going on a closed loop cruise from FLL to the Bahamas. Will we go through customs upon arrival back in Fort Lauderdale?

Well, it’s customs but it’s not like you might find in an airport. Typically you just walk off the ship, take a photo at the kiosk and you are on your way.

Does this apply for Barcelona cruises, where all ports of calls (Spain, France & Italy) are Schengen countries and EU members as well?

Honestly, we’re not familiar with ports in that region. However, if anything getting to the airport should be easier there where public transportation is more widely available.

Getting a lot of information from your comments. Question: We are returning from an Alaskan Cruise into Seattle on July 22nd (6:00 AM) We are thinking of taking an 11:50 AM flight. Doable? Thanks for the info!

I think that should be plenty of time.

Our airline has changed our flights 3 times. We are currently booked for an 11:35 out of Miami on Saturday of Labor Day Weekend. Carnival has us arriving back at 8 am. We will be taking our luggage off ourselves. Is this doable?

I think so. I’d be sure to be up early on the morning of disembarkation and start making your way down. Still, should be enough time.

Thanks for the information. I read this yesterday and booked our flights for 6:15 pm on the day we disembark. (Which is at 7 am). The latest flights besides this was 10:50 am and it is Port Canaveral so I was worried we wouldn’t make our flight. Anyway, now I’ve realize that we have another problem. What are we going to do with all of our luggage for 8 plus hours? We could explore the area but with luggage for 8 people and Ubering, I can’t see how that will work. Any ideas? Thanks so much!!

You mighhhht be able to make a 10:50 a.m. flight, but that’s cutting it very close in my opinion. Do you have a plan for what you want to do on the day you get back? Many large attractions (theme parks, etc.) should have a spot where you can keep your bags.

So this will be an “odd” one – we plan on taking the TRAIN down from Richmond Virginia (or Newport News – haven’t 100% decided yet) to Miami, the departure from Miami will be 11:40am – we are sailing on Virgin their arrival is at 6:30. We are sailing as Mega Rockstars so transportation to/from train station isn’t an issue. Do you think the 11:40 departure is cutting it too close on our arrival back to port day? Also WHERE is the train station IRT the port? I’ve already looked into the hotel for the day before sailing, I’m just curious how far it will be from the hotel (near the port – NOT booked yet) we don’t sail until October this year (2023).

This is our FIRST time cruising – so yeah nerves gaLORE

Thank you for your help

Yep, never heard that one! Google shows the Miami Amtrak station about 10 miles northwest from the cruise port in Hialeah. As for the departure time, I think that would be no issue whatsoever since trains don’t have the same security process & long boarding as planes do. If you already have tickets, I assume it would be as long as you’re there at 11:39, you’re good to go, right?

Yeah, I think you are right – hubs and I did the train from Newport News to NYC (and back) and it was a “hurry and and wait” at the train station (unlike European trains that tend to run “on time”) – I’ll just ensure we are in once of the first groups to depart the ship when we pull in.

Thanks for the map help too.

Hi Tanner. Thanks for all of the great information. Our cruise iteniary states arriving in Miami at 6AM on a Sunday morning (Royal Caribbean Oasis of the Seas). We will be flying out of Fort Lauderdale. We will self disembark and also have “my key”, not sure if that allows us to get off faster or not.

Do you think a 10:30AM flight is doable? They have a 12PM, but it’s a lot more expensive for my family. I definitely don’t want to miss a flight.

10:30 a.m. from Fort Lauderdale would be doable IF everything goes right, but it’s cutting it extremely close in my opinion. Even with a 6 a.m. arrival, disembarkation beginning at 7:30 is more realistic (it takes time to clear the ship before people can get off). Say you get through quickly, that means you are out the terminal by 8 a.m. Then you’ll need a ride (45-60 minutes), plus adding in time to wait for the ride.

So I would think the earliest you could be at FLL would be 9 a.m. That’s plenty of time to catch the flight, but if there are delays anywhere in that process then it could cause trouble.

Honestly, I’d likely keep the 10:30 flight simply because you say there is a 12 p.m. flight after it that you could maybe be re-booked onto if you miss the earlier time. Most times things go off without a hitch. It’s when there’s an issue that having a little extra time is nice.

We come back to New Orleans on a Sunday and right now NCL has us on 6pm flight is it worth time to see if NCL would move us to a 3pm flight ?

Yes, unless you plan to go explore New Orleans. That’s a pretty late flight.

HI, WE WILL BE ARRIVING TO MIAMI PORT AT 6AM AND MY PLANE DEPARTURES TIME IS 10AM IN FORT LAUDERDALE. SHOULD I CHANGE MY FLIGHT?

Yes, I would suggest a flight time of 11 a.m. at the absolute earliest. Noon would be better.

If I am traveling from Port Canaveral, Fl to the Orlando airport, would it be too early to schedule a flight at 10:25? Carnival stated on the itinerary that we would be arriving at port at 8 AM.

Yes, I think that would be too early. Even if you got off the ship at 8:30, it’s about an hour to the airport and then you still have to get through security.

Hello: I plan on booking a flight out of Tampa that leaves at 10:20. The RCCL ship docks at 7:00. Do you think I can make it? This would happen in April.

Oh, that is borderline. I would lean yes, but it would be very tight.

We are cruising Royal Caribbean out of Fort Lauradel , we come back on 11/11 and says boat will arrrive at 6am to FLL, our flight leaves at 11:10 a.m. are we cutting ourselves too close to make our flight?

If sailing out of Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale and flying out of Fort Lauderdale, that should be plenty of time.

We are cruising Carnival out of New Orleans, we come back on the 16 our flight leaves out of MSY at 11:45 a.m. are we cutting ourselves too close to make our flight?

That should be perfectly fine.

NCL has scheduled flight from seattle at 11:35 am (Aug 24) going to Toronto via Vancouver. Do you think this is feasible given today’s airport issues.

So you are flying from Seattle at 11:35 a.m. after a cruise? I think that should be fine. If you got off the ship at 9 a.m. and it took 45 minutes to get to the airport (usually shorter), then you’d still have more than 1.5 hours.

Our flight from Miami to Toronto, canada has been changed to 11:10am. Do I have enough time.

Should be plenty, although dealing with international travel can sometimes take a little longer. I think you should be fine, however

Our flight home from Seattle got pushed back an hour, from 2pm to 3pm PDT, so now with the time change coming home, we’ll be arriving at 10pm EDT. There is an earlier flight that leaves at noon PDT in Seattle. Is that cutting it too close?

You should be able to do noon. I think you’re good.

We are getting off our Alaskan cruise in Vancouver at 7:00AM . Our flight from Vancouver is at 4: 15 PM. That is a lot of time. Any suggestions what we can do?

Are you sure that you’re getting off at 7 AM or the ship returns then? Normally ships return around 7 AM and then it’s a couple of hours to get off the ship. With the port right downtown, you can explore that area if you like. Near the airport is River Rock Casino. Stanley Park is beautiful and right near the cruise ship.

Our MSC cruise arrives in Miami at 7:00am on a Saturday morning and we fly out of Ft. Lauderdale. The airline just changed my flights and we’re now scheduled to fly out at 12:50pm. Is that enough time, or should I try to reschedule our flights? Thanks for the help!

I think that should be fine. Definitely use the option to carry your bags off unassisted to be among the first off the ship.

What airport should we fly home from on Disney Cruise NY (Manhattan cruise terminal)? With a 7:30 arrival, what is the earliest flight?

The Newark and LaGuardia airports are both about half an hour away. JFK is about an hour. We’d suggest making your flight no earlier than noon.

Thanks, I also didn’t tell you it is also a Monday (probably more commuters too).

how do you get from southampton england to gatwick airport. we do not have time problems because we fly out the next day. we are staying at the gatwick hilton close to tbe south terminal.

Unfortunately, we are focused on North American ports. Not sure about sailing in Europe.

You can get the train from the airport, and it takes about 2 hours to S/hampton,then a cheap taxi/uber to your terminal..its A LOT cheaper to book in advance..www.thetrainline.com

We will only fly out the next day. Our ship was fogged in at Galveston and instead of arriving at the port at 8:00 a.m. we arrived at 4:00 p.m. Hence, we were unable to make our 5:00 p.m. flight. It cost us $370 a person to rebook our flight. Lesson learned.

I want to fly from Houston to Seattle for an Alaskan cruise. Should I book a hotel room so I won’t be stressed when returning?

Flying back from Seattle after your cruise? We think that any flight after noon on the day you get back home would be fine. We do suggest coming in a day early for departure.

Our cruise is schedule to port at 5am. I want to book a flight that departs at 2:50pm. I don’t want the stress, but I don’t want another hotel stay either. I know we want to get home. I’m nervous though.

What port are you sailing from and what airport? A flight at 3 p.m. should be plenty of time to make your plane.

We’ll be taking a Europe river cruise in May. At the end of the cruise we arrive in Mainz Germany by 8:30am and fly out of Frankfurt, about 15 minutes by train to reach the airport. What time should we book a flight out on the same day?

We’d suggest nothing earlier than noon.

I am in total agreement that flights should not be scheduled soon after cruises. In fact, I actually prefer scheduling the flight for the day after I debark from the cruise ship. This way I have some time to relax and don’t have to worry about the lines on the cruise ship. It also means that I don’t often have to worry about the ship being delayed. All of this translates to less stress and an easier time arranging transportation to the airport.

That what a friend and I are doing. We are flying into Miami so that we have one full day in miami beach to sitesee and stay until the next day after our cruise. Just less stress.

That’s a great idea. We’ve done the same — a day/night at South Beach and then head to the cruise port the next day. It’s a fun way to start the trip!

Cruise Packages with Flights

Ready to take advantage of world-class itineraries and cruise packages? With flights reserved using Princess EZair® , you’ll benefit from even greater convenience and cost savings. Start your journey with simplified booking and affordable flight options that best complement your cruise by considering where and when you set sail. Whether you’re traveling solo or looking for the best group cruise deals, let Princess help create your best vacation yet.

Princess EZair

Imagine if planning your dream cruise vacation was as seamless as the journey. Princess EZair makes it simple to find flights. With two different pricing options available, you can enjoy the benefits of the EZair program without going beyond your budget. Choose from Flexible Fares or Restricted Fares to best meet your needs. Some benefits of the EZair program include:

  • Cost savings : When you book your air travel through EZair, enjoy exclusive low prices that may not be publicly available. Plus, see a comparison of fares to choose the one that makes the most sense for you.
  • Flexibility: If you want the freedom to change your flight, opt for our Flexible Fares option, which can often cost less than Restricted Fares. Life happens, and with this benefit, you have the ability to alter reservations up to 45 days before your departure without any cancellation fees. You’ll only pay for the cost difference of your new flight, unless the price is lower. And you can book your air travel in advance with no amount due until you make your final cruise payment.
  • Protection: With so many variables in play, flight delays can happen, but they shouldn’t disrupt your vacation plans. If you experience a flight disruption on the day of travel with EZair, we’ll work with the airline to find the next best flight, so you can still embark on your world adventures. If you miss your flight on the way home due to your cruise or transfer, we’ll even help you make new travel arrangements for your return trip.
  • Support: Though specific questions or concerns should be addressed with your airline, like seat assignments, our En Route Desk is available 24/7 as an extra level of support. We’ll help you find flights that fit your cruise with our easy-to-use tool that provides flight suggestions based on when and where you sail. That way you don’t have to worry about whether you've chosen the right flight to get you to your cruise on time. You can also easily modify your reservations if you want more time in port before or after your cruise.

Your cruise vacation is more than just a holiday. It’s the chance to unwind and explore. Princess EZair helps your journey take flight by allowing you to forgo the stress of transportation planning. Similar to putting together ideal cruise and flight packages, EZair makes it easy to coordinate flights, save on fares and ensure you land your ultimate vacation. All that’s left for you to do is sit back, relax and set sail on a dream vacation.

Why a cruise with flight?

If you do not want to spend several weeks at sea, the travel options are usually limited from your home port. Destinations in the Far East, the US or a round trip in the Mediterranean seem so unattainable. If you book the flight separately, you may expect some unpleasant surprises: fares can fluctuate greatly and you may have to take the flight on the day of your dream at a particularly low price. Even if a passable flight is found, it can still be late and cause a delay in your arrival at your departure port.

This does not happen to you with our cruise with flight offers: Find your cruise with flight and benefit not only from the low airfare, but also from a smooth journey. The airport transfer takes care of getting you from the airport to the ship in time. Even if you have a delayed or delayed flight, you do not have to worry, as the cruise line will take care of your cruise. Depending on the circumstances, the ship will either wait for you or you will be taken to the nearest port and board.

Fly Cruise Shipping Companies

Many cruise lines offer the practical combination offer, but you will often find it at Oceania Cruises, Regent Seven Seas Cruises and Hapag-Lloyd Cruises . Of course, this also depends on the distance of your desired destination, since not every cruise route is suitable for a combination offer with flight. We are happy to assist you in choosing a suitable trip.

Seabourn Private Air

Flight ease faqs, see booking information., booking information.

Government-Issued Identification For security reasons, first and last names on an air booking must match the government-issued identification used for boarding. For guests with Seabourn’s Flight Ease plan, name spelling corrections may result in a higher air rate, loss of space and/or change fees. Visit  www.tsa.gov  for more details.

Air Changes/Refunds Changes to the air booking initiated by guests may require cancellation and rebooking of flights at the current available rate. Provided you have not requested early ticketing, no change fees will be charged for changes and cancellations made to Flexible Air prior to the cruise final payment due date. Cancelling your cruise for any reason will cancel any air bookings associated with the cruise, and fees will be applied if applicable.

Flexible Fares:  Payment is required by the cruise final payment date or at time of booking if created after the cruise final payment date. Provided you have not requested early ticketing, no change fees will be charged for changes and cancellations made prior to the cruise final payment due date. After you make full payment, we reserve the right to pass any price increases to you for charges resulting from increases in airline fuel or other surcharges or government-imposed taxes or fees. Changes to the booking may require cancellation and rebooking of flights. The original schedule and airfare may no longer be available, and a new reservation may need to be created at the current available price. If the current available price exceeds the original airfare, the guest must pay the additional charge. Cancellations after the cruise final payment date will incur a fee up to the full cost of the ticket, per ticket. Tickets are nontransferable and name changes are not allowed. In some instances, name corrections will not be permitted and will require cancellation and rebooking of flights.

Restricted Fares:  Full payment for air reservation is required at the time of air booking. Tickets are nonrefundable. Any changes will result in the cancellation of the entire air booking. Cancellation of Restricted Air will incur cancellation fees of the full cost of the ticket. The airline may generate a Future Air Credit (FAC) memo in an amount the airline determines. FACs are notations in the booking that show the guest has an outstanding credit with the airline which can be applied to a future Seabourn air booking with the same airline or redeemed directly with the airline, typically within 365 days. FACs are nontransferable, and nonrefundable. Tickets are nontransferable and name changes are not allowed. FACs only apply to U.S. resident bookings and are not available to guests who have requested refunds under Seabourn Shield.

Air Rates/Air Taxes and Fees Air rates will be quoted at the time of booking. Air rates are for e-tickets, per person and include flight taxes and fees. Some countries impose an arrival or departure tax which cannot be included on an air ticket. In most cases this is paid by each guest upon check-in and may have to be paid in local currency. Other charges may be directly assessed by airlines or airports and are the responsibility of the passenger.

Airline Service Requests and Baggage Charges Please contact each airline directly to request meals, oxygen, wheelchair, or other assistance, using your air confirmation code to access your flight reservation.

Once you have booked your flight, please check the airline’s website, or contact the airline directly for information regarding baggage fees and other charges. Each airline has its own baggage allowance policy. You are responsible for all baggage fees, including any excess baggage charges imposed by airlines. We assume no responsibility for loss, damage, or delay while baggage is in the custody of airlines.

Air Schedule Changes Airline bookings are subject to flight schedule changes by the airlines. Schedule changes can occur at any time and may affect your flights. Seabourn is not responsible for airline schedule changes. Seabourn will assist guests affected by airline schedule changes so that flights booked will meet ship embarkation and disembarkation requirements. Any associated costs related to or caused by an airline schedule change are the responsibility of the guest.

Seat Assignments Seat assignments are controlled by the airlines but may be requested for most flights in the Flight Ease® system based on the availability in the airline’s reservation system at the time of booking. Seabourn has no control over seat assignments. We recommend that guests contact the airline(s) directly once you receive your air confirmation if you require assistance to request specific seats. Seat assignments are not guaranteed and are subject to change at the discretion of the airline without notice due to schedule changes, equipment changes or other unforeseen circumstances. Some airlines charge additional fees for seat assignments. Any fees related to seat assignments are collected by the airlines directly. Guests without seat assignments prior to the flight date will have seats assigned by the airline at check-in on the date of travel.

Liability and Relation with Airlines As the air rates we use are based on capacity-controlled, promotional and group fares, we may limit or close sales without prior notice at any time. If, due to any cause beyond our control, the air travel is unavailable or otherwise fails to materialize, to the extent permitted by applicable law, our sole liability will be limited to refunding the air price paid to us. We assume no liability for any acts or omissions of any airline, including, without limitation, those involving cancellation of flights, schedule changes, re-routings, damage to or delay or loss of baggage, flight delays, equipment failures, accidents, pilot or other staff shortages, overbooking or computer errors. The liabilities and obligations of an airline to you, and your rights against an airline, are subject to any and all terms and conditions of the airline’s ticket and tariffs and all applicable governmental laws and regulations. Passengers who are booked by Seabourn on a Seabourn charter flight are guaranteed a reservation on the cruise ship. If a passenger confirmed on a Seabourn charter flight is unable to board the ship due to cancellation or delay of the charter flight, the passenger will receive a full refund for the complete itinerary that includes the cruise fare, charter flight fee, and applicable taxes, fees, and surcharges.

Transfers Seabourn’s Flight Ease® program includes group transfers between the airport and the pier on the day of embarkation/disembarkation. For deviations in air arrival/departure schedule, group transfers will be forfeited; private transfers may be purchased through Seabourn if desired. Seabourn land/hotel programs include appropriate transfers between the airport, hotel, and pier.

Overnight Hotel Accommodations It may be necessary for Seabourn guests to overnight en-route to or from their cruise due to airline schedules and/or availability. If deemed necessary, the cost of hotel accommodations is included in the air price. If guests choose to add additional hotel nights, the complimentary hotel night will be forfeited as the airline schedule will no longer require an overnight to assure timely arrival to the ship. Hotel options and costs will be communicated to and agreed by guests prior to being confirmed. Guests are responsible for meals and items of a personal nature.

Guests with Independent Flight Arrangements We recommend that you schedule a minimum of 3–5 hours both at the beginning and end of your cruise to allow for transfers, customs clearance, and airport security checks.

Note: If you purchase air transportation independently from Seabourn, you will be responsible for any and all expenses incurred when joining the vessel in progress.

See General Terms and Conditions.

For those looking to encounter some of the Bahamas famous aquatic critters, October to January is the best time to see Tiger Sharks, December to March is when Hammerhead Sharks migrate through Bimini, and you can find Oceanic Whitetips April to June.

Plan the ultimate cruise vacation, how can i book a cheap cruise.

If you're looking for cheap cruise deals, booking with Expedia.ca allows you to customize your search with filters that will put the best value at the top of your search results. Filters are available for various factors, including cabin experience, cruise line, destination and more. In most cases, the simpler your cruise is, the cheaper it will be. Even so, you may still find discounts on luxury cruise experiences, so don't hesitate to filter for some more high-end amenities and sort by price to see the cheapest cruises available.

Which month is the cheapest for cruises?

There is no consistent answer for the cheapest month for cruises unless you specify a destination first. With a cruise to the Caribbean , for example, the cheapest month will be around August since that's when the region undergoes hurricane season.

What happens if a cruise gets cancelled?

Every cruise operates differently, but you'll generally get a choice between a rescheduled date, a refund or cruise credits. Check the policy on your cruise before booking to learn more.

How affordable are cruise trips?

Cruise trips can be surprisingly affordable given all the features you can enjoy on them. Booking with Expedia.ca lets you filter for features like cabin experience, cruise length, cruise line and cruise ship while also sorting the results by price to ensure that you're getting the cheapest options at the top of your search results page while still meeting your search filter specifications.

What are some of the top cruise lines?

Top cruise lines include Viking cruises and Disney cruise lines. While Viking excels at luxury, Disney is among the best when it comes to family-friendly experiences. Some of the other best cruise lines include Royal Caribbean International cruises , Carnival cruises , Princess cruises and Celebrity cruises . What really qualifies as the best is more up to what you're looking to get out of your experience. For example, travelling with kids typically means a Disney cruise or something similar is the best, while budget travellers may prefer Carnival.

How much are cruise ship tickets?

Cruise prices largely depend on the kind of cruise you opt for. Cruise ship costs can be fairly affordable, with cheap cruises only charging $50 a night per person or so for some of their trips, while luxury cruises can run you upwards of $1,000 per night per person or more.

How far ahead should I book a cruise?

Cruise tickets should be bought 6 to 12 months before your cruise departure in most cases. Tickets are technically available further in advance and closer to your cruise departure date. Still, the 6- to 12-month range is generally the best way to get the best deals without missing any opportunities.

What are cruises like?

The cruise you book will have plenty to see and do before you even reach the first destination stop. The ship can be just as exciting as the destinations on your route. Cruise vacations offer food and drinks along with pools, shops and live performances in some circumstances. You may even find a cruise with a water park and a cruise with a roller coaster among particularly luxurious options.

Are cruises a useful way to travel?

Cruise travel ensures that every step of the journey is fun, with activities available between destinations, starting from your cruise terminal. While cruises may only have a single destination, some will travel to multiple spots throughout their entire duration, allowing you to enjoy locales that are just as varied as the attractions on the ship.

Which cruise line is the most affordable in 2024 / 2025?

Deals are often available for just about every cruise line, but Carnival cruises tend to be the most affordable with their Mardi Gras ship . You can also usually find cheap cruises with Royal Caribbean . When searching for a cruise, remember to sort by price to put the most affordable options at the top of your search results page.

How do I get the top cruise deals?

Start your cruise search with Expedia.ca to get the best cruise deals by using our comprehensive filters to sort through our vast collection of offerings. Expedia.ca Rewards members may even find discount cruises through their membership perks, so don't hesitate to take advantage of the free membership.

What cruise would work best for me?

If you're looking for the absolute best cruise in the world, the answer depends on what you're personally interested in experiencing. A laid-back cruise is notably different from a family-friendly cruise with its own amusement park. Take advantage of search filters to narrow down your results to cruises that work for you.

What should I keep in mind when booking a cruise?

Finding a cruise you'll be satisfied with means considering the type of cruise you want and the budget you have to work with. See what's included in the price of a ticket and what you'll have to pay extra for. If aspects like food aren't included, for example, you'll need additional funds in your budget to cover that cost.

What are some of the best cruise destinations in 2024 / 2025?

Cruises can take travellers all over the world, whether you're looking for a cruise to Alaska , a cruise to Mexico or even Antarctic cruises . Cruises to the Middle East and cruises to Australia are popular as well. Think about the kind of cruise experience you want to determine which is the best destination. If you want plenty of time on the cruise, picking a faraway destination can be useful. You also need to consider the attractions available in the destination itself.

What countries should I visit on a cruise?

The Bahamas cruises are among the most iconic cruise destinations, but the cruises to Cuba can also be lovely. Of course, countries all over the world are available. Remember that cruises may not necessarily stop in a country for all that long, so keep in mind how long your visit will actually be when considering what you want to do during your stop.

Are last-minute cruise deals available?

Last-minute cruise deals are often available, and you can check what's available by inputting your travel dates into the cruise finder on Expedia.ca. If you sort by price, the cheapest options will be listed first, including opportunities with special deals applied.

Are there all-inclusive cruises?

Yes, all-inclusive cruises are available and quite popular, and you can find them by using the search filter for all-inclusive. Celebrity cruises and Royal Caribbean cruises , for example, both offer all-inclusive packages.

Is food included with a cruise ticket?

Whether or not food is included in your cruise depends on your booking details. You can check to see what exactly is included with the ticket by checking the ‘What's included’ section of the cruise summary page after clicking it from your search results.

Are there adults-only cruise lines?

Some lines are adults only, including Viking cruises , though Carnival cruises and Princess cruises have options for adults-only cruises as well. With an adults-only cruise, you can immerse yourself in a peaceful and tranquil environment designed to make it easy to sit back and relax.

What kind of luxury cruise lines are there?

Luxury cruise lines include ships like the Caribbean Princess from Princess cruises , along with pretty much anything that Viking cruises have available. With luxury cruises, you can expect high-end amenities and a variety of things to see and do on the ship, such as shopping, dining, live performances, pools and even theme parks.

What family cruises are best suited for kids?

Disney cruises go above and beyond to offer fun cruises for kids and adults alike, but some cruises, like MSC cruises , have special promotions that allow children to get booked for free. Think of Disney cruises as having a Disney theme park on a ship with rides, shows and attractions for the whole family to enjoy.

Which lines offer the best cruises for couples?

Romantic experiences are easy to enjoy with Viking Cruises and Holland America Line cruises . The latter's Koningsdam Cruise is complemented by truly stunning views among breathtaking natural features. River cruises tend to be some of the most romantic, with more stops in historic romantic cities for you and your partner to enjoy.

Why should I go on a cruise for my honeymoon?

A cruise is one of the best ways to spend your honeymoon, as you and your partner can enjoy pampering at spa facilities with fine dining too. You can check what special features are available on every cruise on Expedia.ca in the ‘What's included’ section of their summary page.

Do cruises run around Christmas?

Yes, several cruises operate during Christmas, and you can find them by entering travel dates around Christmas to see what's available for a 2024 cruise to finish out the year. Carnival and Disney both offer special Christmas cruises with special activities and features centred around the holiday theme.

Is it worth going on a river cruise?

River cruises offer a bit of a different experience from ocean cruises, as they tend to have more stops and more varied sights to see. Viking river cruises are among the best available, as they got their start doing river cruises, making them have extensive experience with river journeys.

Are passports required for cruises?

You will need a passport if the cruise travels outside of Canada, even if you're leaving from a Canadian port like cruises from Vancouver . Cruises to the US require a passport valid for at least 6 months after your return. Cruises to other international locations require the same in addition to any potential necessary visas.

What are the benefits of booking a cruise with Expedia.ca?

When you book with Expedia.ca, you'll have access to an expansive catalogue of cruise options and search filters that allow you to narrow down those results as you see fit based on the destination, length, itinerary, cruise line and more. Additionally, Expedia.ca Rewards members accrue points on eligible purchases and other perks that can be put towards subsequent trips. Membership is free, so feel free to join and reap the benefits.

The 12 best all-inclusive cruises for 2024.

When most of the extra costs are paid before you sail, you can truly enjoy your cruise.

The Best All-Inclusive Cruises

Getty Images

Sit back and relax on an all-inclusive cruise vacation.

When it comes to all-inclusive cruises, there are a few different options:

  • Luxury cruise lines: All-inclusive cruise rates are available on luxury lines like Regent Seven Seas and Silversea. While more expensive than traditional cruise rates , the fares cover nearly everything, including door-to-door transfers, luxurious suite accommodations, specialty dining , premium alcoholic beverages and excursions. Plus, you don't need to show your cruise card every time you order a latte or a pre-dinner cocktail. You'll disembark the ship with very few, if any, additional charges on your final bill.
  • Cruise lines with inclusive pricing: Alternatively, you can consider an upscale cruise line like Viking, which offers fares with more-inclusive pricing and some of the amenities found on board the fully inclusive lines. However, you'll still have to budget for a few expenses, such as immersive excursions and alcoholic beverages beyond wine or beer at lunch and dinner.
  • Packages and add-ons: Other cruise lines like Oceania, Windstar and Norwegian offer add-on drink packages and other promos so you can create a more all-inclusive experience.

After comparing the costs between a truly all-inclusive cruise and a sailing with package pricing for the extras, the total price may be closer than you think.

Viking's ocean fleet of nine 930-passenger all-veranda ships offers a nearly all-inclusive experience for guests. The upscale Scandinavian-inspired ships feature king-bed staterooms and suites with many amenities, including luxurious linens and plush robes, 24-hour room service, and free Wi-Fi – plus an in-room minibar with soft drinks, water and snacks. Higher-category staterooms on Viking Ocean Cruises come with additional perks like priority dinner and spa reservations, early stateroom access, and a welcome bottle of Champagne.

These ships also offer a mostly all-inclusive experience with the same amenities as their oceangoing vessels. Pricing on the expedition sailings includes Zodiac safaris, the use of kayaks, a keepsake Viking jacket, and essential gear for excursions and landings.

Select excursions, pre- or post-dinner cocktails, spa treatments, special bottles of wine, and other optional purchases come at an additional expense.

Azamara's four upscale boutique ships carry a maximum of 702 guests and offer immersive experiences around the world, calling on many smaller, lesser-known ports. The line also boasts more than 380 overnights and 850 late nights in port, so guests can have dinner in town and experience more of the destination's local culture and cuisine.

Azamara's cruise fares include all meals (other than the specialty dining restaurants) with water, tea and coffee. A selection of complimentary wine, sparkling wine, beer and spirits is available throughout the voyage. Cultural evenings ashore or on board the ship and gratuities are also included in the basic cruise fare.

If you'd like to enhance your onboard experience, Azamara offers inclusive "Experience More" packages that are discounted and based on the length of the voyage.

For example, on a seven-day or shorter sailing, solo travelers can add a package for $799 that's valued at $1,114 (a savings of 28%). This value-add bundle includes $350 of onboard credit to use for shore excursions; unlimited Wi-Fi for one device; a drinks package featuring premium wines, spirits and bottled water; a $150 spa credit; and a dinner at the Chef's Table or a total of three nights of specialty dining at Prime C or Aqualina. Three bags of laundry are also included.

Guests can book similar packages for double occupancy staterooms and longer voyages. You can also choose individual beverage, dining or internet packages if you don't need the extra amenities or features of the bundled options.

Guests also have access to complimentary Wi-Fi; unlimited group exercise classes; nonalcoholic drinks such as water, tea and coffee; and plenty of lively entertainment.

Virgin does not offer beverage packages, but the line at times advertises special promotions that include voyage credits to cover expenses like airfare and drinks. Shore excursions and spa treatments – including skin care offerings on board Scarlet Lady in partnership with Jennifer Lopez, Virgin's chief entertainment and lifestyle officer – are some of the additional expenses not covered in the base fare.

Add-on Packages and All-Inclusive Fares

These five cruise lines offer basic cruise fares that cover accommodations and some amenities – and you can typically find special pricing and promotional deals throughout the year.

With the optional packages, guests can create a mostly all-inclusive voyage with bundles of add-on extras, such as shore excursions, beverage packages, specialty dining, Wi-Fi, gratuities or shipboard credit to cover miscellaneous personal expenses such as spa treatments or a bottle of wine for a special celebration.

Oceania Cruises

Oceania's eight small luxury ships carry between 648 and 1,238 guests. The line's newest ship – Vista , the first Allura Class vessel – debuted in Rome in May 2023. The beautifully appointed vessel features four new dining concepts, spacious standard staterooms at 290-plus square feet in size, new Concierge Level veranda accommodations for solo cruisers, an elevated mixology program and more.

Oceania's culinary program is touted by the line as "The Finest Cuisine at Sea" under the tutelage of Jacques Pépin, executive culinary director and master chef. Complimentary specialty dining is included in cruise fares on Oceania sailings. Pricing also covers airfare, still and sparkling water, specialty teas and coffees, soft drinks, and Wi-Fi on the ship.

Oceania's "OLife Choice" package provides additional value to your cruise with 2-for-1 cruise fares, free round-trip airfare and airport transfers – plus one free amenity you'll choose out of eight complimentary shore excursions, a beverage package or up to $800 in shipboard credit.

Celebrity offers special rates and packages throughout the year that save money over a la carte pricing – and elevate your onboard experience to be more inclusive. You'll be able to access the best deal on the added perks if you book the upgraded package before you sail, saving up to 40 to 50 percent of the actual cost.

The line's "All-Included" package bundles the most popular add-ons for cruisers: a standard beverage package for alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks, unlimited basic Wi-Fi, and gratuities for the staff and crew. Pricing depends on the stateroom or suite category and sailing.

There are other options when booking a cruise with Celebrity to create a more upscale and all-inclusive experience. Guests staying in all-suite The Retreat have exclusive access to a sundeck (on select ships), a lounge and Luminae – a private restaurant that features Global Culinary Ambassador Daniel Boulud at the helm. Guests of The Retreat booking the "All-Included" package receive a premium beverage package, premium unlimited Wi-Fi, gratuities and an onboard credit.

If you book AquaClass accommodations, you'll also have access to complimentary amenities and perks, such as unlimited access to the SEA Thermal Suite, discounts on spa treatment packages and complimentary fitness classes. In addition, you'll also find a bottle of sparkling wine upon arrival (by request) and two bottles of water refreshed daily in your room. AquaClass guests also have exclusive access to the restaurant Blu. You can add the "All-Included" package to your booking, which will include the Classic Drinks Package, basic Wi-Fi and gratuities.

Passengers who want to book this "All-Included" package and are sharing a stateroom or suite will need to book the same package.

The "Free at Sea" deal bundles discounts on the cruise, free specialty dining, unlimited open bar privileges, shore excursion credits, savings on Wi-Fi access, discounts on the third and fourth guests in the stateroom, and a 2-for-1 deal on airfare.

"Free at Sea Plus" takes the package up a notch with a more comprehensive beverage selection, including top-shelf cocktails, Champagne by the glass, bottles of select premium wines at dinner and signature Starbucks coffee drinks. This option also includes unlimited Wi-Fi, additional nights of specialty dining and shore excursions.

Prices for both packages on Norwegian Cruise Line will depend on the dates, length and destination of the cruise.

"Princess Plus" and "Princess Premier" packages offer guests two options to upgrade their onboard amenities from the standard Princess Cruises plan, which covers accommodations, dining, entertainment and the line's signature MedallionClass experience.

"Princess Plus" perks include a beverage package with drinks up to $15 each, Wi-Fi on one device per guest, gratuities for the crew, two premium desserts a day (think hazelnut gelato at the onboard gelateria), two fitness classes per cruise (such as Pure Barre or YogaSix) and unlimited trips to the juice bar. The cost is $60 per day per person for this middle-tier package.

Additional benefits of the highest-tier option, at $80 per person per day, include the Premier Beverage Package, which covers drinks up to $20 each, and Wi-Fi for up to four devices per guest. Other features of the "Princess Premier" upgrade are two specialty meals, a photo package, Princess Prizes, reserved theater seating and a Medallion accessory.

13 best all-inclusive cruise lines

Janice Wald Henderson

Editor's Note

All-inclusive cruising sounds alluring — until you realize that this phrase can mean different things to different cruise lines.

Generally speaking, all-inclusive in the cruise world means that the fare you're quoted includes the cost of your room on a ship (based on double occupancy), port fees and taxes, most meals, gratuities, and alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages.

The most inclusive cruise lines also offer complimentary Wi-Fi, airfare (economy, chartered or business class), all specialty dining (rather than only at select venues) and shore excursions — pretty much everything short of spa and salon treatments, ultrapremium wines and spirits, and purchases such as cigars.

As you might expect, all-inclusive cruises are typically found on luxury or upscale cruise lines and are priced higher because they include so much.

For more cruise guides, news, reviews and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

Beyond the truly all-inclusive cruise lines, some more affordable lines offer pricing packages that are more inclusive than the average big-ship cruise. You may be able to opt into an inclusive fare package for a higher cruise fare or get one free as a booking perk.

On some cruise lines, the highest-priced suites come with so many amenities as to make those fares all-inclusive. If you're just looking for all-inclusive alcohol, nearly every cruise line that doesn't already include alcohol in its fares will sell you an all-inclusive drink package that lets you have an open bar experience on board.

Here, we share the 13 best all-inclusive cruise lines where you can enjoy your cruise without ever pulling out your wallet.

All-inclusive cruise lines

Five lines stand out for having the most inclusive cruise fares in the industry. With so many things included in everyone's base fares, you'll mainly pay extra for spa treatments, souvenirs, some shore excursions and ultra-premium drinks.

Regent Seven Seas Cruises

cruise ship flight

Regent Seven Seas Cruises surely ranks as the most all-inclusive luxury line. Just be warned: With so much bundled into the fare, its prices are usually loftier than its competitors.

If tasteful opulence is your style, you will love Regent. Generously sized, all-suite accommodations feature spacious verandas. The multimillion-dollar art collection (think Picasso and Chagall) onboard the newest ships Seven Seas Explorer, Seven Seas Splendor and Seven Seas Grandeur astonishes; you will sail amid multiple museum-quality pieces.

This line's cruise fares include nearly every cruise-related travel expense: business-class airfare on intercontinental flights (economy airfare for domestic flights), transfers between your airport or hotel and the ship, all alternative dining (Chartreuse for Parisian-inspired fare and Pacific Rim for Asian-fusion cuisine are standouts), unlimited beverages, valet laundry service, crew gratuities, Wi-Fi and most shore excursions. Complimentary shore excursions are unlimited, so you can join a couple every day you're in port.

Guests in Concierge Suites and above can count on a one-night fancy hotel stay pre-cruise, with transfers, breakfast and porterage. Select itineraries also offer two- or three-night land programs for free.

What is extra? Spa and salon treatments, hands-on cooking classes in a state-of-the-art culinary workshop, small group or special-interest shore excursions, the fanciest wines and liquors, cigars and sundries.

Scenic Luxury Cruises & Tours

cruise ship flight

Scenic Luxury Cruises & Tours, an upscale cruise and tour company known for its luxurious riverboats, now operates two 228-passenger "adventure yachts" — Scenic Eclipse and Scenic Eclipse II.

These stunning ships are as sleek and sexy as any private yachts custom-built for a billionaire. Think of each as a bliss factory, churning out one mind-blowing complimentary experience after the next. Plus, as ice-class expedition vessels, Scenic's yachts deliver adrenaline-charged activities that adventurous cruisers adore.

Among many inclusions, count on all-suite accommodations with verandas or terraces, butler service for every passenger, up to 10 dining experiences, alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages, an in-suite minibar restocked daily, Wi-Fi, airport transfers and gratuities, both on board and for excursions ashore.

The included wines and spirits are particularly noteworthy, especially the more than 100 whiskeys. Belly up to one of nine bars and sip your way through the impressive collection.

Related: Luxury adventure cruise ships you have to see to believe

Most exploration toys, such as Zodiacs, kayaks and stand-up paddleboards, are complimentary. Scenic Eclipse even carries e-bikes, an inflatable trampoline and water skis. Up to 15 onboard expedition experts (20 in polar regions) lead complimentary adventure and enrichment programs on and off the ship.

You will only pay extra for Scenic Neptune, the ship's six-seater submarine, and for a ride on the two helicopters.

Count on divine dining experiences. Sushi@Koko's skilled chefs cut the finest sashimi, flashing knives as if the fish were an art piece. Lumière prepares meticulous modern French cuisine; linger pre- or post-dinner at its sexy Champagne bar.

Senses Spa is steeped in complimentary offerings. Relax on thermal loungers, awaken the senses in showers delivering aromatherapy and multiple jets, take meditation classes, and work out in the gym and yoga and Pilates studio. Unwind in women's and men's saunas, steam rooms and relaxation lounges, and soak away your cares in three plunge pools. You'll only pay for one-on-one fitness sessions and spa treatments.

cruise ship flight

Seeking casually elegant — think exclusive, country club-like vibe — for an all-inclusive voyage? Meet the seven Seabourn ships, which play up luxury in a sophisticated yet laid-back style. (Seabourn Pursuit, the line's second expedition vessel, debuted in August.)

Seabourn's cruise fares include oceanfront suites with double vanities and living areas (many with private balconies), premium wines and spirits, Wi-Fi, specialty restaurants, 24-hour in-suite dining (served course-by-course), caviar whenever and wherever you like, and gratuities.

The only major add-ons to your tab are airfare and shore excursions, the fanciest wines and spirits, and spa and salon treatments.

Related: 5 secrets to getting a luxury cruise for less

Fine dining on Seabourn ships includes an array of complimentary gourmet restaurants, including a dedicated sushi spot and an alfresco restaurant focusing on international cuisine with a twist. The line is soon to replace The Grill by Thomas Keller with Solis, a Mediterranean restaurant focused on fresh and healthy cuisine, all made from scratch on board.

Seabourn has created a Mindful Living Program in collaboration with Dr. Andrew Weil, an esteemed pioneer in integrative medicine. The line offers complimentary classes with Dr. Weil-trained practitioners in guided meditation, as well as free Pure-Form yoga and Pilates group workouts.

Silversea Cruises

cruise ship flight

Interested in nibbling complimentary caviar and sipping fine Champagne on all seven continents? You are not alone. Silversea Cruises delivers that fabulous perk and much more in its impressive inclusions.

This luxurious Italian-inspired line offers two types of all-inclusive travel, "Port-to-Port" and "Door-to-Door."

Port-to-Port includes all-suite accommodations, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, tuxedo-clad white-gloved butlers for all passengers, basic Wi-Fi, gratuities, laundry room usage and meals in most dining venues, including 24-hour room service with dinner served course-by-course. It also includes one complimentary shore excursion per port; the rest are available for purchase.

You will pay extra for spa treatments, cigars and other purchases like the most exclusive wines and spirits.

Related: 7 compelling reasons to book a luxury cruise

Expedition sailings include extra perks in their Port-to-Port fares, such as all in-country economy air travel and pre- or post-hotel night or day use, necessary equipment and gear, and expedition team-led shore excursions.

For all types of Silversea sailings, Door-to-Door travel includes all of the above plus international economy airfare (or an air credit), business-class upgrades and/or in-country flights for select itineraries, pre- and post-cruise hotel nights (depending on flight timing) and airport transfers by private executive car service. This choice aims to eliminate all travel stress, with Silversea handling every detail between your walking out your front door and returning home.

Some other points to note when contemplating Silversea and its benefits: Suites truly are suites, with separate living and sleeping areas. For instance, on the 596-passenger Silver Moon, a spacious entry-level suite rocks a cool 334 square feet. A veranda brings the total square footage up to 387 square feet.

If you book the biggest onboard suites, you are privy to even more freebies, such as valet laundry, unlimited premium Wi-Fi (for faster speed than the included plan) and dinner for two in the fabulous La Dame restaurant.

The ultimate luxury inclusion? Caviar is served whenever you like, wherever you wish to dine, with all the proper accoutrements.

cruise ship flight

Luxury cruise line Crystal re-launched in 2023, bringing back an all-inclusive onboard experience on two vessels, the 606-passenger Crystal Symphony and 740-passenger Crystal Serenity .

Fares include all ocean-view rooms with butler service for all, fine dining in multiple venues (including one complimentary reservation at Umi Uma by Nobu Matsuhisa Restaurant and Sushi Bar and Osteria d'Ovidio per cruise of up to 11 days), in-suite dining, all beverages, Wi-Fi, a youth program on select voyages and crew gratuities (for housekeeping, bar and dining staff).

You'll be wowed by the friendly and intuitive service on board. With a crew-to-passenger ratio of 1:1, you'll feel pampered every moment of your vacation.

Crystal's signature activities are always complimentary, whether that's lounging around the gorgeous pool by day, challenging new friends to a game of pickleball, enjoying afternoon tea in the Palm Court, ballroom dancing with gentleman hosts or attending performances in the evening.

If you have to take out your wallet, it'll be for ultra-premium liquors, gourmet wine-paired meals in the Vintage room, cigars in the Connoisseur Club, spa treatments and shore excursions.

Cruise lines with more-inclusive fares

Four cruise lines cover more costs in their cruise fares than the average line, but not as many things as the truly all-inclusive lines. We refer to these lines as more-inclusive, not all-inclusive.

cruise ship flight

If you love a port-intensive cruise on a smaller, upscale ship, Azamara might be the cruise line for you.

Cabins on its older ships are compact yet cozy, with a modern look, but you won't spend much time in them. That's because the line prioritizes getting you to multiple ports and spending as much time as possible on land, with longer stays and evenings ashore.

In keeping with the line's destination focus, Azamara offers a complimentary AzAmazing Celebration on board or ashore on nearly every cruise. These exclusive, no-cost events highlight local culture and performers, often with exclusive access to cool locations.

Related: The ultimate guide to Azamara

Also included in every Azamara guest's fares are nonalcoholic drinks (such as specialty coffees and teas, soda and bottled water), as well as an assortment of standard liquors, wine and beer. Crew gratuities and self-service laundry are also included in your fare.

However, you will still have to pay for premium drinks, Wi-Fi, specialty dining, spa treatments and tours.

Azamara does offer several extra-fee packages to make its inclusive fares even more inclusive. Its five "Experience More" packages bundle together extra-fee items (shore excursion credit, Wi-Fi, premium beverages, spa credit, laundry and/or Chef's Table dining) for a roughly 30% discount compared with purchasing those amenities a la carte.

cruise ship flight

Whether you're sailing Viking 's ocean or river voyages, or the new Viking Expeditions, this cruise line delivers many inclusions for a company that insists it's not a luxury company.

Here's what Viking includes on ocean and expedition sails: one complimentary shore excursion in each port; Wi-Fi; alternative restaurant dining; 24-hour room service; thermal suite spa access; beer, wine and soft drinks with onboard lunches and dinner; specialty coffee, tea and bottled water; and self-service launderettes. If you purchase airfare through Viking, ground transfers are also complimentary.

River cruising also includes the above, except it does not offer alternative restaurant dining, thermal suite spa access, 24-hour room service or self-service launderettes on board.

Cabins are a notch above what you'll find on other premium ships. They come with upscale amenities, such as king-size beds rather than queens, and bathrooms with spacious glass-enclosed showers, heated bathroom floors and anti-fog mirrors.

Perhaps what passengers rave about the most is complimentary access to the Nordic Spa and that awesome thermal suite mentioned above. Breathe deep in the steam bath or sauna, freeze your you-know-what off in the Snow Grotto to wake up every cell (including those you never knew you had) and take a whirlpool, cold-water splash or plunge pool dip. Alternating hot and cold therapies invigorates your mind and body in the best ways.

Related: The 5 best destinations you can visit on a Viking ship

The complimentary alternative dining inclusions are mighty fine, too. Little feels better than sitting down to an incredible meal in Manfredi's Italian restaurant and not signing a room charge at the end. No corners are cut here for a complimentary meal. Pastas are excellent, but by all means, order the signature bistecca alla Fiorentina , a Florentine-style porcini-and-spice-crusted ribeye steak that makes meat lovers swoon.

The overstuffed house-made bread basket, served with aged Parmesan chunks and high-quality balsamic vinegar and olive oil, is worth the price of admission alone — if there were one in the first place.

Oceania Cruises

cruise ship flight

Oceania Cruises sails smaller, upscale ships with a focus on fine dining and restaurant variety. It has recently made its cruise fares more inclusive with the introduction of Simply More pricing.

All cruise fares now include free round-trip airfare plus transfers, a shore excursion credit of $600 to $1,600 per cabin to use on the guests' choice of tours in port and a beverage package that covers a selection of wine, beer and Champagne at lunch and dinner.

Oceania already includes nonalcoholic drinks (soda, specialty coffee and tea, smoothies, juice), specialty dining (including meals by celebrity chef Jacques Pepin), Wi-Fi (two devices per cabin), fitness classes and shuttles into town in port.

Virgin Voyages

cruise ship flight

Virgin Voyages ' goal is to reimagine the cruise experience, which means that it doesn't follow the typical rules of cruising. You'll find tattoo parlors, drag shows, balcony hammocks and a novel approach to fare inclusions.

Onboard Wi-Fi and crew tips — typically extra charges on most mainstream cruise lines — are included in everyone's cruise fare on Virgin. All of its ships' 20+ eateries are complimentary, from the vegetarian restaurant to the Korean barbecue joint, though you may have to make reservations in advance. Select nonalcoholic drinks (including soda, non-pressed juices and sparkling water) also do not incur extra fees. The line's creative and energetic fitness classes are also fee-free; other lines charge $15 to $20 for these.

Virgin does not offer an all-inclusive beverage package add-on and instead claims it offers fair prices for drinks. However, if you purchase a Bar Tab (essentially prepaying for drinks) , the line will throw in extra free money you can use on your bar bill.

Cruise lines with all-inclusive fare classes

A relatively new addition to the all-inclusive cruise fare world is the all-inclusive add-on package . Select cruise lines allow guests to opt into higher-priced fares that include more perks or purchase fare add-ons that grant them extra inclusions. The cruise lines claim that the extra fees are a savings on the a la carte price of the included amenities.

Celebrity Cruises

cruise ship flight

Celebrity Cruises aims to be the cruise line for Gen Xers, and its newest ships are filled with dining variety, resort-worthy bars and plenty of places to grab a seat and gab with your girls, guys or significant other. Innovative cabins let fresh air in without creating under-used outdoor space. The line has also gotten creative with options for more inclusive fares.

Celebrity lets cruisers choose from two fare types: Cruise-Only or All Included. Cruise-Only fares get you the standard cruise amenities, such as meals in the main dining room and buffet, a short list of nonalcoholic drinks (drip coffee, iced tea, juice from a machine at breakfast) and traditional onboard entertainment.

Upgrade to the All-Included fare, and you'll pay more but get more inclusions. (Prices vary by ship, itinerary and sail date.) These fares cover a Classic Drinks Package and Celebrity's Basic Wi-Fi plan. The fares used to cover crew gratuities, but that perk has been phased out.

Alternatively, if you book upper-category cabins and suites, your base fares will include additional perks. Passengers in AquaClass accommodations receive exclusive access to the Blu restaurant, a complimentary thermal suite pass, free fitness classes and discounted spa packages.

Related: Everything you want to know about Celebrity cabins and suites

Suite guests receive a premium drinks package, premium Wi-Fi, 24-hour in-suite dining and specialty coffees, and exclusive access to the Luminae restaurant and suites-only lounge and sun deck. These fares include concierge and butler service, as well.

Windstar Cruises

cruise ship flight

Windstar Cruises ' hallmark is casual luxury, so the line lets guests choose how inclusive they want their fares to be.

The line's base prices get you a nicely appointed stateroom, dining in multiple venues with menus by James Beard Foundation-affiliated chefs, and nonalcoholic beverages (such as soft drinks and specialty coffees). Take your pick from small, luxury cruise ships with spacious suites to motorized sailing yachts with gorgeous sails.

If you want one-and-done pricing, passengers can choose All-Inclusive Fares for an additional $89 per person per day. With this plan, guests receive complimentary Wi-Fi, prepaid hotel and beverage gratuities, and an unlimited beverage package, which includes all beers, 33 different wines by the glass, 40 house and select brands of liquor, cocktails made with the included liquors and minibar items.

Princess Cruises

cruise ship flight

The Love Boat cruise line explores the world on big, but not too big ships, with a particular focus on Alaska sailings . It welcomes everyone from families with kids to retired couples with a variety of onboard offerings and inclusive fare options to suit a variety of budgets and preferences.

Princess Cruises offers its guests two ways to make their cruise experience more inclusive. The Princess Plus Package costs $60 per person per day and includes a Plus Beverage Package (covering drinks priced up to $15 each), Wi-Fi on one device per passenger, two meals at casual extra-fee restaurants, two fitness classes, two premium desserts, unlimited juice bar drinks, free room service delivery and tips for the crew.

Related: The 5 best destinations you can visit on a Princess ship

For a more all-inclusive experience, guests can purchase the Princess Premier Package at $80 per person per day. With this elevated program, passengers receive a Premier Beverage Package (covering drinks priced up to $20 each), Wi-Fi on up to four devices per passenger, tips for the crew, two meals per guest in the line's extra-fee specialty restaurants, unlimited meals in the extra-fee casual restaurants, unlimited premium desserts and juice bar drinks, free room service delivery, a photo package of three prints plus unlimited digital files and reserved theater seating.

Holland America

cruise ship flight

Holland America is Princess Cruises' sister line and Alaska rival. It sails midsized ships around the world, catering to a mature cruiser who loves live music, fine dining and a classic cruise experience.

The cruise line also has a similar all-inclusive add-on to its sister. The line's Have It All fares include a shore excursion credit of $100, $200 or $300 per person (based on length of sailing); a Signature Beverage Package covering alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks priced up to $11 per drink; one, two or three comped meals in the line's specialty dining restaurants (based on length of cruise); and a Wi-Fi Surf Package, HAL's basic Wi-Fi package.

The cost to make your cruise all-inclusive is $55 per person per day, added to your cruise fare, and applies only to the first and second guests in each cabin.

Cruise lines with all-inclusive promotions

A few cruise lines take a different approach to all-inclusive cruising and offer inclusions as booking promotions . Depending on the current offer, you are entitled to a slew of included amenities or your choice of only a few.

Norwegian Cruise Line

cruise ship flight

Norwegian Cruise Line is known for its anything-goes attitude: Eat where you want, dress how you like, enjoy the ship as you see fit. Its megaships are known for their variety of dining and drinking venues, as well as onboard attractions that include Broadway-caliber entertainment, go-kart tracks , laser tag, VR game rooms and crazy water slides. Many of the attractions come with fees, so it's easy to find yourself pulling out your wallet again and again on board.

To combat that, NCL has been running some version of its Free at Sea promotion for years, which offers complimentary amenities to make your cruise fare a little or a lot more inclusive. Depending on the current offer, you might be eligible for all the amenities or you might get a choice of some number of them depending on the type of cabin you book.

The included perks vary, but are usually an Open Bar beverage package (covering drinks up to $15 each), one to three free meals for two people in specialty restaurants on board (depending on type of cabin and length of cruise), a $50 shore excursion credit for one person in each port, 75-300 minutes of free Wi-Fi each for two people (based on length of cruise), and complimentary or $99 third and fourth guest fares on select sailings. Sometimes free airfare (buy one ticket and the second guest flies free) is part of the promotion, as well.

Note that guests must pay a 20% gratuity on the value of the Open Bar beverage package and the specialty dining package.

Related: The ultimate guide to Norwegian Cruise Line

Norwegian also offers a paid upgrade to the Free at Sea perks called Free at Sea Plus. This add-on would upgrade your perks to a Premium Plus beverage package (including all top-shelf liquors, beer and wine plus unlimited still or sparkling bottled water, Starbucks coffee and energy drinks), two extra specialty restaurant meals, a $50 excursion credit for two guests in every port (versus one) and an unlimited Wi-Fi package (no streaming).

The additional cost is $49 per person, per day, for adults and $29 for children; solo adult travelers pay $42 per person.

7 things to do as soon as you board a cruise ship.

Making the most of embarkation day can set you up for an enjoyable cruise vacation.

If you’ve never cruised before, embarking a modern vessel for the first time can be truly overwhelming. You don’t know what you don’t know, but by not doing certain things within the first hours, you risk spoiling your dream vacation.

The embarkation day process for a cruise is like a streamlined airport experience. Cruise lines provide a time window, usually from late morning to mid-afternoon, for arrival at the port.

Upon arrival, keep your boarding documents and ID ready. Once you’ve dropped off your luggage, cruise staff guide you to check-in where you'll present your ID, complete a health form, and receive your cruise card or wristband.

This card acts as a boarding pass, room key, and payment card onboard. Some lines offer keyless embarkation, allowing direct access to rooms and cards collected at the cabin. Before boarding, you'll go through a security line, albeit less rigorous than at an airport.

Once onboard, make sure to do these seven things as soon as you can. From checking your accommodations to enjoying the iconic sailaway, these steps ensure you maximize your onboard experience right from the start.

Apple iPhone 16 New Design And Performance Upgrades Revealed In Leak

Apple confirms widespread iphone changes coming to millions of ipads, sony is making a truly terrible mistake with helldivers 2, check your accommodation thoroughly.

As soon as you enter your cabin, inspect everything to ensure it meets your expectations and everything is in working order. Check that all facilities, such as the shower, toilet flush, lights, and electrical outlets, function properly.

If there is anything amiss, this is the time to contact guest services. You should expect a long queue on embarkation day, but the sooner you identify an issue, the higher the chance of a quick resolution, especially if an alternative cabin may be required.

You should check your cruise ship cabin and meet your room steward as soon as you can on embarkation ... [+] day.

This time also gives you an opportunity to stow your valuables in the cabin safe, and freshen up if desired.

Meet Your Cabin Steward

Introduce yourself to your cabin steward . They are key to ensuring your stay is comfortable, and will most likely call on you as soon as they realize you have arrived.

Discuss any specific preferences or needs you might have, such as extra pillows or allergies, or mention if you are late sleepers, for example. If you have any queries about room service or laundry options, now is the time to ask.

Cabin stewards are always professional, but getting to know yours early can enhance your onboard experience significantly.

Book Everything

Modern cruise ships are home to a dazzling range of entertainment and dining options. Early booking is crucial for popular onboard activities, dining reservations, and shore excursions.

In some cases, popular activities may have sold out prior to the cruise. For those that need to be booked on board, visit the relevant information desk or use the onboard app to make all your bookings as soon as possible.

You should also check your allocated dining time, if you are on a ship that operates a fixed dining concept. If you’re unhappy with the allocation, visit the maitre’d to request a change.

Attend Muster

The only absolute must-do on the first day is the muster drill. Prior to the pandemic, many cruise lines still required physical attendance in the theater or other large venue to go through the cruise safety procedures .

Nowadays, almost all cruise lines offer a virtual muster experience. Typically, a safety video is available on the cabin TV (which must be watched before accessing other functions) or even on the cruise line app.

You may still need to attend your designated lifeboat station to have your name taken, but this is straightforward and takes mere minutes.

Take Advantage Of Ship Tours

When you arrive in your cabin, check your daily planner to see if there are any introductory tours or sessions offered by the cruise line.

Embarkation day can be hectic and overwhelming. Join a guided tour to get your bearings.

Ship tours are ideal for first-time cruisers unfamiliar with the ship’s layout and generally how things work on board.

Keep an eye out for embarkation day tours or introductory sessions at the spa, fitness center, or casino. These often include special promotions or offers to kickstart your cruise experience.

Airplane Mode

To avoid hefty roaming charges, switch your phone to airplane mode. While at sea, your device could inadvertently connect to a cellular maritime network , which incurs high costs or data.

Even if you don't actively use your phone, you might accrue a significant bill from background data usage by your apps before you even receive an SMS notification—if you receive one at all.

Most cruise ships offer Wi-Fi packages, so consider purchasing one if you need to stay connected. Remember, cruise line apps typically require connection to the ship’s Wi-Fi network, but you can use them without buying an internet package.

Alternatively, use this time to disconnect and enjoy the break from constant connectivity. If so, use the time before sailaway to send some farewell messages.

Enjoy Sailaway

The sailaway party is a cruise tradition not to be missed. On many lines, the top decks will host live music and festivities as the ship departs.

It’s the perfect time to grab a drink, meet other travelers, and take in the stunning views as you set sail on your adventure. If you want to toast the sailaway, be sure to get a drink in good time, as the bars will all be busy.

NEWS... BUT NOT AS YOU KNOW IT

The one thing cruise ship passengers do that drives crew mad

Lucy Southerton Cruise ship worker

Cruise ships have their own set of rules , and a holiday at sea isn’t like your average getaway.

Lucy Southerton, 28, from  Birmingham , has been working on cruise liners for the past nine years, meaning she knows all the tips and tricks to get the most from your time aboard .

On her YouTube channel, Cruising as Crew , she shares her knowledge to ensure first-time passengers avoid common pitfalls – and the mistake cruise newbies make most can end up ruining your break.

According to Lucy, ‘treating a cruise like an all-inclusive holiday’ is the main faux pas she notices at work.

She said: ‘If some people have solely done all-inclusive holidays, they make the mistake of thinking a cruise vacation is very similar to that.

‘So a lot of people do not budget for extra expenses while they are on board because they have the misconception that most things will be free.’

Lucy Southerton Cruise ship worker

The crew member says that although things like buffet meals will be included in the price of your trip, dining at certain restaurants on board or going on excursions often costs extra.

Forgetting to factor this into a budget can ‘really ruin people’s vacation’, Lucy says, as they have to miss out on things they perhaps looked forward to.

Gratuities are a big deal on a cruise too, so it’s recommended to set aside some cash to tip staff at the end of your holiday.

She said: ‘With a lot of cruises, you get hit with the gratuity bill at the end, which I have also seen a lot of people not budget for.’

Alongside this, Lucy claims first-time ‘cruisers’ can struggle with the tight timings ships have to adhere to and miss their departure after a stop.

She said: ‘They get off at the port, go off and explore by themselves, which is part of the fun – but what they don’t allow for is time to get back. It obviously makes things very difficult for the cruise line and it is just an all-around mess.

‘So, when you’re on a cruise, it is very different from a hotel that is going to stay stationary. You absolutely have to make it a priority to get back to the ship on time and ask crew members what the traffic is like at each port if you’re getting a taxi to a certain destination.’

Her next warning is around travel insurance, which is particularly vital to get at the time of booking because cruises can get cancelled or flights to your starting destination can be delayed.

Lucy said: ‘Unlike a land holiday, where if your flight is eight hours late and the hotel stays where it is, the cruise ship moves so if your flight is eight hours delayed that’s going to mean you’ll miss it.

‘You absolutely have to get travel insurance as soon as you book the cruise.’

Lucy Southerton Cruise ship worker

Overbooking excursions is another no-no, so try to balance ‘some exciting days but some relaxing days’ when planning out your itinerary to avoid ending up exhausted.

Lucy also advises pre-booking activities or excursions rather than leaving it to the last minute, ensuring you pack essentials (including medication), researching ports ahead of time, and listening carefully to safety briefings so you’re prepared for emergencies.

And, last but not least, she urges first-timers to always consider where their cabin is – particularly if they might be prone to seasickness.

She says: ‘You want to be in the centre of the ship. You don’t want to be in the back, you definitely don’t want to be in the front, because that’s where you’re going to feel the movement the most.

‘So when you book a cabin, make sure it is in the centre of the ship, and make sure the cabin you book is surrounded by other cabins.’

Lucy adds: ‘The cheaper cabins will have a restaurant or a gym above them and it’s going to be noisy, so cabin location is really important.’
