How to Update Safari on a Mac?

• Open "System Preferences" and click on the "Software Update" icon.
• If you have an update available it will list the version of macOS that you will be updating too, and what is going to change.
• To start the update there will be an "Update" button.

Note: this is on macOS Catalina as older versions require that you use the "App Store" to update Safari.

Keeping safari updated, how to update safari in system preferences.

It's a good practice to keep your web browser constantly updated for security reasons , but Apple Safari on Mac doesn't have an update button. Here's how to keep Safari updated.

Every year, Apple releases new features for Safari, and you usually install them without realizing it because they're linked to macOS updates that you get in System Preferences.

But because Safari is a browser, Apple often lets you update to the latest version of Safari without installing the next big OS release. For example, while Safari 14.0 came bundled in macOS Big Sur , macOS Catalina users can still update to it. Apple also provides regular security updates to older versions of Safari, which is the main reason why  we recommend that you keep it updated .

To update Safari, you'll have to use the Software Update feature in System Preferences. To get there, click the Apple icon in the top-left corner of the screen.

In the menu that appears, choose the "System Preferences" option.

In System Preferences, click "Software Update."

The Software Update panel will show you whether there are any software updates available for your Mac. If there are, you have two choices.

If you want to install the latest operating system along with the latest version of Safari, just click the "Update Now" button and follow the process.

If you only want to install an update to Safari, click "More Info" under the list of available updates to see a detailed list of all updates.

After clicking "More info," a panel will appear listing the updates available for your Mac. Make sure that the "Safari" update is selected, and uncheck "macOS" if you don't want to install a system update along with it. When you're ready, click "Install Now."

After a while, the Safari update will be installed on your Mac.

Once the update process is finished, you can safely quit the System Preferences app using the red Close button in the corner of the window.

Since this process is somewhat confusing and non-obvious, we recommend enabling the auto-update feature to keep Safari and your Mac updated. Good luck!

Apple upgrades Safari for older versions of macOS

Version 11 of the browser adds intelligent tracking protection, a feature that has drawn the ire of the online advertising industry..

Apple upgraded the macOS Safari browser to version 11 this week, adding a feature that has drawn the ire of the online advertising industry.

Safari 11 can be downloaded to Macs running 2016’s Sierra or 2015’s El Capitan from the Mac App Store. Users can access that e-mart by clicking on the Apple menu at the top left of the screen, then choosing “App Store…” The browser upgrade should appear under the “Updates Available” section.

The browser will also be bundled with macOS 10.13, aka High Sierra, set to release Monday, Sept. 25 . This week’s upgrade targeted users who will, whether permanently or temporarily, stick with the older Sierra or El Capitan.

Apple simultaneously supports three editions of macOS, but only one version of Safari. When the Cupertino, Calif. company ships High Sierra next week, that means it will continue to supply patches for the past two years’ worth of operating systems — Sierra and El Capitan — but will stop support of 2014’s Yosemite and drop Safari 10 entirely.

Those running Yosemite and Safari 10 should consider switching to an alternate browser that still receives security fixes, like Google’s Chrome or Mozilla’s Firefox.

Although Safari 11 patched several vulnerabilities that had existed in its predecessor, the most notable change was the introduction of what Apple called “Intelligent Tracking Protection,” or ITP.

ITP automatically deletes some browser cookies — the small bits of code used by sites to “remember” previous visitors — to crack down on cross-site tracking. The practice has been widely criticized by privacy advocates for its use by advertisers to follow users from site to site, then bombard them with ads similar to those clicked on previously. Also, those cross-site cookies will be ignored after 24 hours (unless the user during that time has again interacted with the original site).

Groups representing online advertising blasted ITP in an open letter published in AdWeek Sept. 14, claimed that Apple’s move would “sabotage the economic model for the Internet” and asked the company to reconsider before “disrupting the valuable digital advertising ecosystem.”

Apple declined, and in a statement of its own, said that the tracking cookies “collected [information] without permission and … used [that information] for ad re-targeting, which is how ads follow people around the Internet.”

Unlike browsers such as Chrome and Firefox, Safari is upgraded only once a year, when Apple issues new versions of macOS and iOS. Between those annual upgrades, Apple releases security patches and other bug fixes on a schedule that averages about every 10 weeks.

I just reinstall the Yosemite on my Macbook Pro. Apple already deleted Safari 10.1.2 for Yosemite installer. Do anybody still keep the installer file? Thanks.

Totally new to DNN, I got the question to fix a page that was built in DNN. The problem is that the content is not displayed in Safari 10.1.2.

I browsed to the site, looked in the source code and although I see the html for all the different elements (headings, paragraphs, etc), they are all empty.

There are no console error's, so I don't think there is anything wrong with the code itself.

My first thought was maybe DNN doesn't support safari or at least this particular version.

Can you confirm that DNN does support Safari?

I have OSX Yosemite How do I update safari?

The only way to update Safari to a newer version is to upgrade your OS from Yosemite 10.10.5

to a newer OS.

The model and year of your Mac will determine which macOS you can upgrade to,

read Section 1 in each of the How To's.... below.

Please use Safari to access the following links do not use Firefox

How to upgrade to macOS Mojave - Apple Support

How to upgrade to macOS High Sierra - Apple Support

How to upgrade to OS X El Capitan - Apple Support

Before upgrading make a full back up of your Mac.

Check that third party apps you use have updates available for the new OS.

Check that your printers/ scanners etc have updated drivers and software available for the new OS.

Connect your mac to your router via cable rather than rely on WiFi.

Do not use your mac while it is downloading

and do not use any other devices that share the same internet connection.

If the App Store says ‘Open’ then it is detecting a previous download of the install app

go to the Applications folder locate Install macOS ******.app.

Move it to the Trash, empty the Trash.

Restart, click on the link again, the App Store should say ‘Get' or 'Download'.

If you are considering upgrading to Catalina be warned that it does not support 32bit apps.

Your Mac is probably running 32bit apps and these will need to be updated to 64bit apps,

some updates may be free, some may be paid. Use this app to discover which apps you have

are 32bit, https://www.stclairsoft.com/Go64/ . Once the list has been created you can then

contact the developers of the apps to see if they provide 64bit updates.

If you're using a Safari version less than 10.1.2, update it from the Mac App Store.

If you're using Safari 10.1.2, you need to upgrade the OS. That Mac model can be upgraded to El Capitan and may be able to run High Sierra, Mojave, or Catalina.

It says version 10.10.5 when I look 'about this mac.'

I tried to get safari from the app store with no success.

I have no idea how to do the rest that you mention-or indeed what it means. Perhaps you could go into more helpful detail?
