FC Bayern München to visit Japan as part of SKY PerfecTV! Bundesliga Japan Tour 2023

bayern munich asia tour 2023

  • FC Bayern München will become the second Bundesliga team to take part in the ‘SKY PerfecTV! Bundesliga Japan Tour’
  • The record champions will take part in two fixtures in July, with all details set to be announced in due course
  • SKY PerfecTV! is the home of the Bundesliga in Japan, where fans can use the ‘Bundesliga Live’ app to curate their own viewing experience through the Interactive Feed

28 April 2023 – In partnership with Japanese broadcaster SKY Perfect JSAT Corporation (SPTV), the DFL Deutsche Fußball Liga today announced that the second edition of the ‘SKY PerfecTV! Bundesliga Japan Tour’ will take place this summer, when reigning Bundesliga champions FC Bayern München will travel to play multiple matches in the Far East.

The Bundesliga Japan Tour was launched in November 2022 with current UEFA Europa League holders Eintracht Frankfurt, who took on two J1 League clubs; Urawa Reds, and Gamba Osaka.

The 2023 edition of the tour will again consist of two matches, this time featuring FC Bayern München, the Bundesliga’s record champion and six-time winners of the UEFA Champions League.

After a fantastic launch last year, we are delighted that FC Bayern will be the second club to travel to Japan as part of the joint initiative. Peer Naubert, CMO Bundesliga International

Details of the second match have already been confirmed, with Bayern taking on Kawasaki Frontale at the National Stadium on 29 July. More information, including the first opponent, exact timings, and information regarding ticket sales, will be announced in due course.

Bundesliga Chief Marketing Officer Peer Naubert said: “After a fantastic launch last year, we are delighted that FC Bayern will be the second club to travel to Japan as part of the joint initiative. With 16 Japanese players currently in Germany, this visit of one of the world’s biggest clubs will only add to the growing fanbase in the region. We are excited to partner with SPTV and bring the Bundesliga closer to even more fans throughout Japan.”

FC Bayern with huge fan community in Asia

Andreas Jung, FC Bayern Board Member for Marketing said: “FC Bayern has a huge fan community in Asia, which is constantly growing. We want to drive forward the great enthusiasm for our sport in the region and excite the people there with our team.”

The Bundesliga has long been the home for Japanese players in Europe. Not only has the German top-flight seen more Japanese players than any other league in Europe, but the Japan national team that travelled to the 2022 FIFA World Cup included eight players who currently ply their trade in Germany.

Alongside national team players such as Wataru Endo (VfB Stuttgart) and Ritsu Doan (SC Freiburg), the Bundesliga continues to see young Japanese talent choosing Germany. In January 2023, 18-year-old Taichi Fukui joined FC Bayern and has been a regular in the club’s second team.

In 2020, SPTV signed a broadcast partnership agreement with the Bundesliga, including exclusive broadcasting and distribution rights for five seasons from the 2020-21 season, as well as a commitment to a range of joint marketing activities in Japan.

Bayern Munich to face Manchester City and Liverpool in Audi Summer Tour

Record Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich will play in Japan and Singapore as part of their summer pre-season plans, with friendlies lined up against English sides Manchester City and Liverpool.

Thomas Tuchel's men will be in Asia from 24 July to 3 August as part of their Audi Summer Tour. Their first game is scheduled against City on 26 July at Tokyo's National Stadium, where they will also face J1 League side Kawasaki Frontale on 29 July. The Bavarian giants will then head to Singapore, taking on Liverpool at the National Stadium on 2 August.

While Bayern visited Singapore on their last pre-season tour to Asia in 2017, this will be their first trip to Japan since 2008. The games in Tokyo - which follow a training camp in Tegernsee, just outside Munich - are being organised jointly with SPTV, the Bundesliga’s Japanese media partner, and the DFL (Deutsche Fußball Liga).

Speaking after the announcement of the training camp and tour, then Bayern CEO  Oliver Kahn said, "FC Bayern is always conscious of its roots in Bavaria and Munich, and it's part of the club's tradition that we regularly prepare for the new season at Tegernsee.

"At the same time, we want to give our fans around the world the opportunity to see our players in the flesh. We're looking forward to this year’s Audi Summer Tour in Asia."

Soccer: Bundesliga, training camp FC Bayern

There’ll be only a few matchdays left before the Bundesliga finishes, but the summer is anything but rest for Bayern Munich . In addition to planning and finalizing transfers, they will be going on a few trips across the globe in the off-season. I wrote back in January about Bayern’s planning for the Asia tour and now it’s been confirmed.

They were scheduled to go to Sydney, Australia and play a couple of friendlies right after the league ends, but it looks like they won’t go after all:

Bayern's Australia tour, scheduled after the last game of the season, has been cancelled. The club was promised €4-5m, but the organizers couldn't fulfill the financial promises [ @cfbayern , @altobelli13 ] — Bayern & Germany (@iMiaSanMia) April 30, 2023

Here’s what the schedule looks like so far:

July 15 – 20: Tegernsee training camp (via @iMiaSanMia )

July 24 – August 3: Audi Summer Tour in Asia (8 th edition of the summer tour)

· Two games in Tokyo against Kawasaki Frontale and Manchester City (plus another destination in Japan against a third team)

· Mini-tournament (Audi Cup?) in Singapore against Liverpool , Tottenham Hotspur , and AS Roma .

Getting busy, eh? Both the front office and the team.

Finally, we can get revenge on Manchester City with this third leg! (We’re still in the Champions League , right?)

Sport-Club Freiburg v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga

Anyway, the club aims to maintain their roots by holding a training camp in Tegernsee per under-fire CEO Oliver Kahn:

FC Bayern is always aware of its roots in Bavaria and Munich, and it is part of the club’s tradition that we always prepare for the new season at Tegernsee. At the same time, we want to give our fans around the world the opportunity to see our players live on a regular basis. We’re looking forward to this year’s ‘Audi Summer Tour’ in Asia.

Andreas Jung, head of marketing, is aware of the club’s huge yet ever-growing fan base in Asia and would want to continue that.

FC Bayern has a huge fan base in Asia that is constantly growing. We want to continue to drive the great enthusiasm for our sport in the region and inspire people with our team on site.

Which is why their motto for this summer tour is “A way to inspire” ( via the club’s official website ):

Under the motto “A way to inspire”, the first stop of this year’s summer tour is Tokyo. Two “Audi Football Summits” will take place in the Japanese capital on July 26 and 29 in the national stadium. The opponent on July 29th is Kawasaki Frontale, the opponent of the opening game will be announced like the second destination of the tour with a third game. FC Bayern is visiting Japan with its professional team for the first time since 2008. The games in Tokyo are organized jointly with SPTV, the Japanese media partner of the Bundesliga, and the DFL Deutsche Fußball Liga. Last year FC Bayern was on its summer tour in the USA. 2017 was the last time we were guests in Asia, at that time the stations were called China and Singapore.

When are they gonna visit the Philippines? I’m still waiting.

Bayern Munich Pre-season Tour of Asia: Preview and Predictions

By tamhas woods | jul 19, 2023.

It seems only five minutes ago that the Bundesliga season ended, and with a brand new set of Bayern Munich preseason friendlies kicking off in the coming days, a fresh butterfly effect is about to be set in motion.

Love or hate pre-season tours, this is always a crucial time for any club. With the dying moments of 2022/23 being a prime example, consider the fine margins by which some title races are won and lost. Would Bayern now be targeting a 12th straight Bundesliga title had they slacked off in pre-season? It’s very doubtful.

Without a good pre-season, who can honestly say that Jamal Musiala would still have mustered that extra yard of stamina to score an 89th-minute championship winner against Cologne in May?

Of course, pre-season is also a vital part of any big club’s agenda when it comes to maintaining an international presence. More than ever, consistent participation in so-called ‘friendly’ tournaments can have a positive commercial impact. They range widely, from increasingly generous prize pots to finding an under-the-radar superstar, or even attracting financial interest from abroad.

Granted, Bayern Munich aren’t in desperate need of such perks, and they look set to enjoy dictating terms in the Bundesliga for generations. Yet, success invariably breeds success in any setting, and a few friendly wins can only boost morale ahead of the opener against Werder Bremen on August 18.

So what can be expected from Thomas Tuchel’s charges in Japan and Singapore, and the opposition that lies in wait?

The Audi Summer Tour 2023 will see FC Bayern Munich travel to Asia from July 24 to August 3 ahead of the start of the new season. There, the reigning German champions will meet treble winners Manchester City with former FCB coach Pep Guardiola, among other rivals. New signings Raphaël Guerreiro and Konrad Laimer are among the travelling party. The brand with the four rings is also bringing a new member along: the Audi Q8 e-tron , which is currently being launched in Japan. Other Asian markets will follow. Audi is reflecting the Summer Tour’s color scheme with special decals as a unique homage to FC Bayern.

From Tegernsee to Tokyo: After a training camp in Upper Bavaria, FC Bayern Munich is traveling to Asia together with its long-time partner Audi under the motto “A way to inspire”. The first stop on the Audi Summer Tour is Tokyo: At the Audi Football Summit in Japan’s capital, head coach Thomas Tuchel’s team will go up against English champions and Champions League winners Manchester City on July 26 (12:30 p.m., CEST). On July 29, the team faces Japanese top-league club Kawasaki Frontale (12 p.m., CEST). The next day, Germany’s record champion club will fly on to Singapore: At the Singapore Trophy presented by Audi, FC Bayern will face Liverpool FC, managed by coach Jürgen Klopp on August 2 (1:30 p.m., CEST). RTL will broadcast the high-profile friendly matches against Manchester City and Liverpool FC live on free television in Germany at noon. The games, including the match against Kawasaki Frontale, can also be viewed on pay-TV channel Sky. This is the eighth time that the brand with the four rings has given its name to, and partnered with, FC Bayern Munich’s Audi Summer Tour.

“Our partnership with FC Bayern Munich shows: We live progress! We’re also demonstrating this with the Audi Summer Tour in Japan and Singapore, with sporting events and fascinating experiences in strong solidarity with our partner FC Bayern Munich. Asia is of great importance to Audi as our most important growth market. I’m delighted that we are now expanding our product portfolio with the launch of the Audi Q8 e-tron and further strengthening our e-offensive in Asia in the long term,” says Hildegard Wortmann, Member of the Board of Management for Sales and Marketing at AUDI AG.

The Audi Q8 e-tron with the design of the new FC Bayern away jersey

The Audi Q8 e-tron , which will join the FC Bayern Munich team on its trip to Asia, is getting special decals. With the colors black, green, and purple, they reflect the color scheme of the Audi Summer Tour.

Andreas Jung, Executive Board Member responsible for marketing at FC Bayern said: “This year, the Audi Summer Tour offers our fans in Asia the opportunity to experience FC Bayern players live for the first time in five years. We are looking forward to our time in Tokyo and Singapore, where our fan base across the region continues to grow. We want to create even more enthusiasm for soccer there and, together with our partners, inspire people beyond the pitch itself.”

FC Bayern Munich is making its first guest appearance in Japan since 2008; on its last visit to Asia in 2017, the team stopped at China and Singapore.

Top model features over 40 driver assistance systems

As the successor to the electric pioneer, the Audi e-tron , the Audi Q8 e-tron stands out with an optimized drive concept, improved aerodynamics, and higher charging performance and battery capacity. All these innovations make for an increased range up to 600 kilometers (under the WLTP standard) for the Sportback model. The new model from Ingolstadt also offers maximum space and comfort. The features of the Q8 e-tron also meet the demands of discerning Japanese customers, who see the brand with the four rings as a progressive player in the BEV segment.

Among other achievements, the electric SUV and crossover top model sets new standards with its luxury-class interior, which is even brighter thanks to the power panoramic glass roof. Like in all luxury-class models from Audi, the Q8 e-tron also uses the MMI touch response operating system. Practically all the car’s features can be activated via two high-resolution touch displays. In addition, the Audi Q8 e-tron provides drivers with approximately 40 driver assistance systems.

The brand with the four rings and FC Bayern Munich have been partners since 2002; their partnership was recently extended until 2029. Audi has also been a shareholder in FC Bayern München AG since 2011.
