Your Holiday Booking homeworker Neil Smith has secured a booking worth £125,000 for an 85-night Cunard cruise for three people on Queen Victoria.

The industry veteran hailed the support of Your Holiday Booking and its parent, the Vertical Travel Group, which in turn paid tribute to his “exceptional service and expertise”.

Smith has worked in retail for 50 years, in travel for 30 years, and with the Vertical Travel Group for 26 years.

He had planned to retire after the “nightmare” of Covid but did resume selling once clients were confident to return to overseas holidays.

“The amazing Cunard booking came from a client who I have looked after for over 20 years,” he said.

“I missed out on her last cruise booking in 2023 as I was having radiotherapy for cancer.

“She had contacted the company that she used for that booking but they reported to her that the 2025 Cunard sailing from Southampton to South America was fully sold out.

“She rang me to see if I was back working and asked my advice on whether it was worth wait-listing the suite she was after.

“I knew that particular cruise could be booked from Hamburg with its own cabin allocations and I was able to secure the suite she wanted with club class flights from Heathrow and return airport-to-ship transfers.

“The customer is happy and I am obviously over the moon with such a fantastic booking.”

He continued: “There have been many changes over the last 26 years in the travel homeworking industry but I have remained loyal to the Vertical Travel Group mainly because of the brilliant people who work in the company.

“From technical support in Laindon, to the sales support team, the admin team, the commercial support and all the management team right up to our chief executive Peter Healey they have all been magnificent.

“I should also mention the amazing friendships that I have made with other homeworkers spread out all over the country – great friends for life.”

Pope Francis begins historic apostolic journey to Southeast Asia and Oceania

Pope Francis departed Rome on Monday to commence his 45th apostolic journey, one that will take him to Southeast Asia and Oceania over the course of nearly two weeks.

During his 11-day journey — the longest trip of his papacy to date — the 87-year-old pontiff will visit Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Timor-Leste (East Timor), and Singapore from Sept. 2–13.  

Prior to commencing his trip, the pope paid a visit to Salus Populi Romani (the Byzantine icon depicting the Blessed Virgin as the health and protector of the Roman people) at the Basilica of St. Mary Major on Sunday to entrust his journey to the Mother of God. 

On Sept. 3, the Holy Father will first land in Jakarta, Indonesia, the world’s most populous Muslim-majority nation, to promote religious harmony and interfaith dialogue between Christians and Muslims in the country.

During his visit the pope will meet with Catholic bishops, priests, religious brothers and sisters, seminarians, and catechists at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption in the Archdiocese of Jakarta.

Francis will also meet with the country’s President Joko Widodo on Sept. 4 and deliver a speech to political leaders at the Istana Merdeka Presidential Palace. 

The Holy Father will also participate in an interreligious meeting at Istiqlal Mosque, the largest mosque in Southeast Asia, located directly opposite the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption. 

Following Indonesia, the pope will travel to Port Moresby, the capital city of Papua New Guinea, on Sept. 6. Approximately 4 million Catholics live in the country, representing the largest denomination in the majority-Christian nation.

The pope will meet with the country’s civil and religious leaders as well as visit a number of communities involved with Catholic ministries aimed at promoting the spiritual and social welfare for the people of the Oceania nation.

The motto chosen by the bishops of Papua New Guinea for Pope Francis’ apostolic visit — the second papal visit in the country’s young history — is “Pray,” inspired by the passage in the Gospel of Luke “Lord, teach us to pray” (Lk 11:1).

From Sept. 9–11, the Holy Father will visit Timor-Leste (East Timor) and meet with Catholic leaders and faithful at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in the country’s capital, Dili. The Holy Father will also meet with the country’s leaders and deliver a speech at the Presidential Palace. 

The pontiff will also preside over Mass in Esplanade of Tasitolu, which is expected to attract the attendance of thousands of Catholics from around the country. 

Pope Francis’ visit will mark the first visit by a pontiff to the 97%-majority Catholic country. 

Singapore is the last country in the pope’s itinerary of his apostolic journey to Southeast Asia and Oceania. 

Between Sept. 11–13, Pope Francis will meet with both civil and religious leaders in the Asian city-nation before presiding over the Holy Mass at the National Stadium. 

The elderly, sick, and the youth are a priority for the Holy Father in his first visit to Singapore.

He will visit residents of St. Theresa’s Home, a nursing home founded by the Little Sisters of the Poor in 1935, as well as participate in a youth-led interreligious meeting at Catholic Junior College before returning to Rome at the conclusion of the journey.

On Monday, meanwhile, Vatican News reported that Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin would not be leaving with the pope on his Monday flight due to the death of the prelate’s mother, Ada, who died on Aug. 31.

Parolin will celebrate the funeral of his mother in Schiavon, in the Italian province of Vicenza, on Sept. 3.

Frequently Asked Questions

I need my passport sooner than i thought. what should i do.

Call the National Passport Information Center at  1-877-487-2778  ( 1-888-874-7793  TDD/TTY) to request expedited service for an extra $60. You may also add a 1-2 delivery service of your completed passport book for an extra $21.36. One-to-two day delivery is not available for passport cards. We only send cards via First Class Mail.

Can I pay for faster delivery and return shipping?

Yes. You may choose one or both of the following shipment options:

• Delivery to us : Use Priority Mail Express for faster shipping. The price for this service depends where you live.
• Return to you : Pay $21.36 for 1-2 day delivery. This means you will receive your passport   1-2 days after we send it. Include the fee with your passport fee in your check or money order payable to the U.S. Department of State for fastest return shipping. Do not submit a return envelope to us with postage pre-paid. 

You may receive your passport and the supporting documents in separate mailings. If you are renewing a passport card, we will send it to you via First Class Mail. We do not use 1-2 day delivery services if you only applied for a passport card.

Why do your processing times change?

We change our processing times as demand for passports changes during the year. From late winter into summer, demand for passports is generally higher than other periods of the year. Plan ahead and apply during our slower season from October through December. 

What happens to my processing times if I receive a letter or email requesting more information?

If you receive a letter or email requesting more information to complete your application, respond as soon as possible. If you receive this letter or email, it may take longer to get your passport. Follow the instructions in the letter or email, and go to our Respond to a Letter or Email page for more information.

An archipelago of limestone cliffs and evergreen forests, swooning coconut palms and endless honeyed beaches rise from Thailand’s blue-green waters.

This was one of the first places in Thailand that became popular with backpackers in the 1970s. Since those early days, it has developed a robust infrastructure for visitors, catering to a wide range of tastes and styles. The island is also very accessible, thanks to direct flights from Bangkok, Hong Kong and Singapore. It’s a good place to rest at the end of a busy tour of Thailand.

All of this makes Koh Samui a good beach destination for relaxation, with options for activities both on and off the island, even in the off season. You can take advantage of the island’s varied selection of restaurants, ranging from purveyors of elegant international fare to small, anonymous shacks serving excellent renditions of classic Thai and Western dishes.

Relax on Koh Samui’s beaches

The island’s beaches are often lively, but there are still quiet stretches. Lipa Noi, on the western shore of Koh Samui, is particularly quiet, especially during the week. A good spot for families, the water here is shallow for a long way offshore, and the seafloor is coated in smooth sand, without sharp coral or toe-bruising rocks. Lipa Noi also offers some of the finest sunset views on the island.

There’s a wide range of hotel options, from simple to sumptuous. Many properties have attached spas, which offer standard beauty treatments as well as services like yoga and t’ai chi classes.

Most of the hotels are happy to help you indulge in water sports and offer equipment to guests, including kayaks and jet skis.

Snorkelling around Koh Samui

Thanks to the marine park status, the archipelago remains a playground of limestone cliffs, weirdly shaped grottoes and unspoiled peachy-sand beaches. Translated as ‘golden basin’, the park encompasses 42 rocky islands topped with evergreen forests and surrounded by crystalline blue-green waters.

Explore the nearby islands

Koh Samui isn’t known for its diving and snorkelling, however. If you’re interested in seeing underwater life, we suggest taking a trip to one of the nearby islands. You’ll find good snorkelling, especially in the waters off the northern islands, where there are coral gardens populated with green turtles and yellow-spotted trevallies. The visibility can be somewhat limited, due to sediment in the water.

Some of the area’s best diving is north of Koh Samui at Koh Tao (or Turtle Island, as it translates) — we can arrange a trip for you.
