The tech behind Taylor Swift concert wristbands

Are you wowed by the moving light patterns at the taylor swift eras tour and have you wondered the way those wristbands work here's how..

The Taylor Swift Eras Tour has wowed the audience with some cool LED tech. Especially when the slithering snakes formed by twinkling lights of the wristband “crawl” across the audience in the arena.

While people are wondering whether there’s some high-tech involved, it’s not as complicated as it seems. Coldplay, Lady Gaga, and many other K-Pop concerts have used this LED technology in the audience’s wristbands to create immersive visual effects. “It’s funny because oftentimes people think there’s GPS in each of the devices, or there’s a lot of advanced AI technology,” says Vincent Leclerc, co-founder and CEO of PixMob in an interview with WSJ. “But we are really like, the old-school technology,” he chuckles.

PixMob is a leading concert LED company that is also behind several impressive lighting designs for concerts including the Taylor Swift Reputation Stadium Tour, Lady Gaga Chromatica Ball Tour, and Coldplay Music of the Spheres World Tour. Leclerc explained the three simple and  “old fashion” ways to make those wristbands work.

The first is using radio frequency, which is very common in stadiums for sports competitions. The wristbands are equipped with a signal receptor and a tiny computer to process the signal into lighting colors. An operator would send out the signals from a small control board, and change the colors in different sections of the audience. This works very effectively when the audience sits in designated areas and doesn’t change their seats.

The second method is slightly more complicated. It uses infrared technology, which is the same as a remote control for the TV. With this method, different moving patterns and shapes can be displayed like a digital canvas. By setting up robotic transmitters all over the arena, operators can send out lighting data through these transmitters to wherever they want, and create moving imageries like snakes. By placing masks on the transmitters, they can also create shapes like hearts.

The last technique is Bluetooth, which is often seen at K-pop concerts. The fans would connect their light sticks or wristbands to their phones using via Bluetooth with the information about their seating. This allows the lighting operators to create highly-detailed patterns or words with light.

How Do the Light-Up Bracelets on Taylor Swift’s 1989 Tour Actually Work?

Taylor Swift’s 1989 tour has thus far featured quite a few surprises, including appearances from members of the U.S. Women’s World Cup soccer team, a Lorde cameo, and an unexpected duet with The Weeknd. But perhaps the most magical touch: upon entering the concert, every fan gets an LED wristband—a translucent silicone bracelet that lights up and changes color perfectly in time to the music. Their integration into the show was so striking that New York magazine’s Lindsay Zoladz even wondered if perhaps Swift was controlling the wristbands with her mind .

Not quite. They’re actually designed by a company called PixMob , which uses infrared transmitters to allow the bracelets, which can also be fitted with an RFID (Radio-Frequency Identification) chip, to be synced to each show’s music, lighting, and even the movement of people in the crowd (the bracelets are also motion-sensitive).* Slate spoke to PixMob’s commercial director, Jean-Olivier Dalphond—who is strictly forbidden from divulging any specifics of his contract with Taylor Swift—but was able to break down how the wristbands work.

So how do these bracelets magically flash in time to the beat of Taylor Swift’s music?

We use infra-red light, which is essentially the technology that’s in your remote control. It’s very simple but very powerful—think of it as installing a very powerful set of remote controls around the stadium, and then sending a signal that triggers the lighting. We use, essentially, invisible light to create visible light, and to synchronize people with each other.

We want to make an object that feels like magic, so there’s no button, there’s nothing to activate—it will just turn on at some point. We want to surprise you.

Who coordinates when the wristbands flash?

We are integrated into the production, so whoever uses PixMob decides what they want to do with it. We leave it to the creativity of the client to work with.

The light is controlled by the main lighting board.

What was the first show you ever worked on?

In 2010, Cirque du Soleil came to us with this crazy idea: Could we paint on an audience and light people up? We had two months. And we figured it out . We found a way to control individual objects.

And then you decided to try bracelets?

What we did with Cirque de Soleil was a poncho. We did the poncho, then we did the PixMob balls for Arcade Fire , then we did little helicos that dropped from the sky , and eventually we went to the wristband. We went from the big form-factor to something that was possible to wear easily and comfortably in public. With technology, it’s a little bit like how you start with the phone in the 1980s—it was giant. Now [a phone] can be very small and fit in your pocket. So we started with bigger objects and then made it smaller and smaller and smaller.

Did you hear the news story about the three girls who got into a car accident after a Taylor Swift concert and used their PixMob wristbands to attract help?

Everybody in the office was like, wow, that’s a great story. We don’t wish that on anyone, but we’re glad that the situation ended well.

* Correction, July 20, 2015: This post originally misstated that the wristbands used during Taylor Swift’s 1989 tour were fitted with RFID chips. They were not.

Taylor Swift finally sings long awaited 'Reputation' track

Portrait of Bryan West

LONDON — Taylor Swift played the final song from “Reputation” and the 92,000 fans in Wembley Stadium screeched so loud thinking it would lead to the rerelease announcement of the singer’s sixth album.

“So the whole tour I’ve done hundreds of songs, but I haven’t done one of my favorite songs,” Swift said and thousands of fans screamed at the top of their lungs.

“I feel like I’ve made best friends in this crowd,” she continued. “I feel like I’ve seen Tony Award winning dancing … so I’m going to do something I’ve never done on the tour cause you’re that awesome.”

The light-up wristbands on every concert attendee glowed bright blue until Swift sang the first line, “I never trust a narcissist.”

In less time than a snap, the wristbands changed to bright green.

Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.

The line is from "I Did Something Bad" on “Reputation,” and fans have theorized that when the singer would decide to play it, she would also announce her rerelease. It was the only "Reputation" song Swift had yet to sing on the Eras Tour.

Ashleigh Jade , a Swiftie influencer from Australia, was live on Instagram. She couldn’t contain her excitement. “I’m so so sorry you guys, I don’t mean to scream,” she apologized.

“Rep TV is coming, Rep TV is coming,” Swifties in the crowd reiterated. Eyes kept flashing to the back screen hoping new artwork would appear with a release date. As the singer made her way through the bridge and chorus, fans added their own sound effect heard on the studio version, “rat-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta.”

Swift wrapped the song and everyone held their breath.

“I’m shaking,” Jade said. “I’m so sorry I’m shaking.”

Swift set down her guitar and played a mashup of “My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys” from “The Tortured Poets Department” and “Coney Island” from “Evermore.”

The announcement never came, but Jade said she had one of the most memorable nights.

“I can’t believe what I just saw,” she said.

Swift has two more shows left for Wembley Stadium and the European leg of the tour. This is ready.

Taylor Swift’s performance, fan’s wristbands light up Arrowhead Stadium

Taylor Swift

Kansas City, MO — We all used to know Taylor Swift as this sweet, country singer, but the old Taylor is no more.

Taylor’s new album ‘Reputation’ had a little twist from what we are used to, claiming that “the old Taylor is dead”, and that this is the new and improved Swift. Welcome to her new era.

With her Reputation Stadium Tour USA coming to an end, I had the pleasure of seeing what it was all about in Kansas City, Missouri.

I have seen Taylor four times in concert, and I feel like each time I’m more and more impressed with her as an artist. This was her first year doing a stadium tour for her album. Her concert in Kansas City was at Arrowhead Stadium, home of the Kansas City Chiefs. In fact, fans were told Saturday night was “ the most people they have ever had in their stadium .” Taylor did THAT.

Fans screaming, lights bouncing through the stadium, and a show you never wanted to end, was the feeling you got while in attendance. Swift had you wanting more and more.

When we first entered the stadium, they gave us bracelets that glowed in the dark, which was a super cool way to rock out during the concert. Taylor wanted every single person to have this glow in the dark wristband, so she could see all her fans in the crowd.

My favorite moment was when she sang old songs, such as “Love Story,”  and everyone’s glow in the dark bracelets turned pink. At that moment, it felt like every single person was connected.

Swift is also known to have some of the best opening acts when she goes on tour and has become more and more dominant with every tour. This time, she would bring along Camila Cabello, and Charlie XCX.

Camila sang songs like “Havana” and “Never be the Same”, and Charlie sang a song from the famous ‘Fault in Our Stars’ movie, “Boom Clap”, and her most popular “I love it”.

Camila at Swift's concert

Taylor ended her concert with “This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things,” along with a big firework show that brought the music to life.

It was an incredible moment.

If you ever get the chance to see Taylor Swift in concert, then I recommend you prepare yourself for lots of singing, dancing, and unforgettable moments you’ll always remember.

Are you ready for it?

Thousands of people filled the NRG stadium for Taylor Swift’s Reputation Stadium Tour on Sep. 29 in Houston. Her Reputation album is taking the world by storm, and has broke many records including the fastest selling album to hit number one on iTunes. On the night of the concert, the atmosphere was filled with excitement and anticipation as everyone waited for the captivating singer to come on stage.

Charli XCX kicked off the concert with great energy and enthusiasm, and sang some of her famous songs, including Boom Clap and Fancy . Then she left the stage and Camila Cabello came on to perform Never Be the Same . Right before she began Consequences , everyone turned their phone flashlights on and sang along with her. Cabello had amazing dancing skills, and showed them off especially during her hit single Havana . They both played for around 30 minutes each, and then welcomed Swift on the stage.

A strong beat started to echo around the stadium, and Swift slowly appeared on stage while performing her single …Ready For It? Then she performed I Did Something Bad , and the whole stadium looked radiant red because of the lights, enormous fireworks, and amazing dancers. After a few songs and moving speeches, Taylor Swift performed Delicate while moving towards the B stage, which was closer to the back of the stadium, in a sparkly carriage above the audience in order to get closer to her fans.

“I have wanted to go to a Taylor Swift concert for a really long time and it was unforgettable,” Anavi Nayak ‘21 said. “I loved the visual effects and the fireworks, and one of my favorite parts was when she sang Long Live because the Speak Now album is one of my favorite Taylor Swift albums. I definitely want to go to another Taylor Swift concert sometime.”

Something unique about Swift’s shows are that everyone in the audience gets a wristband that lights up in different colors during the show according to the song. For example, during Look What You Made Me Do, certain parts of the crowd’s wristbands were golden, which formed the shape of a crown. Altogether, the wristbands made Swift feel closer to the crowd, and the crowd feel closer to Swift.

“I really wanted to be able to see every single person in here, and it’s a really big place, so you may notice that you have a bracelet on your wrist. Because of these bracelets that you have on, I can see every single person in here. If you are in the last row, top section, I can see you dancing [and] jumping,” Swift said. “It’s just the best feeling in the world looking out and feeling very connected to you guys.”

Additionally, Taylor Swift mashed up a lot of songs, such as New Year’s Day from Reputation with Long Live from her Speak Now album , and Bad Blood from her 1989 album with Should’ve Said N o from her very first album Taylor Swift . The mashups sounded terrific, and not only was the audience having fun, but Swift was as well.

“I know we’re supposed to play it cool, but I have to be honest with you. This is the most fun I’ve ever had on tour,” Swift said.

There were tons of props and dancers on stage, including two huge snakes that came up during Shake It Off , which Swift sang with Cabello and Charli XCX. This is because snakes are the theme of Reputation .

Another tradition of this tour is that at every show Swift sings a surprise song on an acoustic guitar, which can be any song from any of her albums. When the time came for her surprise song, it was very exciting for many people to see what she was going to play. This time she sang Wonderland from her last album 1989, which pleased many fans. After this song, she walked to another stage while high-fiving thrilled fans, and performed Blank Space , which the audience loudly sang along to.

The Reputation Stadium Tour has the most massive production compared to all of Swift’s other tours and lived up to its hype. This talented artist loves her fans and tries her best to entertain and connect with them in any way possible. Overall, the concert was filled with loud crowds, bright lights, and unforgettable moments.

Taylor Swift

It’s no secret that Taylor Swift is the queen of Easter eggs. Since the early days of her career, the superstar has regularly planted clues, hints and callbacks in her music videos, live appearances, interviews and even the liner notes in her albums.

“I love to communicate through Easter eggs,” Swift said in a 2019 interview with Entertainment Weekly to help kick off her Lover era. “I think the best messages are cryptic ones. … You know, when you plan something that far in advance, you’re kind of just flexing on planning. That’s what an Easter egg really does.”

So it should come as no surprise to Swifties that The Eras Tour is no exception to their queen’s masterminded penchant for hyper-specific planning and eye for gorgeous, perfectly plotted detail — all the way down to the colors painted on her nails during tour rehearsals.

Taylor Swift's The Eras Tour Outfits: Then and Now

As the U.S. leg of the wildly anticipated tour kicked off, fans at the first two shows in Glendale, Ariz. — and later across the Internet, thanks to #SwiftTok — paid keen attention to each of the singer’s choices onstage. From her costumes to her choreography, and even the songs she included (or didn’t) on the setlist, nearly every detail elicited wild analysis and speculation for what it all could mean.

Below, Billboard rounds up an ongoing list of Easter eggs spotted by fans as The Eras Tour makes its way across America. Read on to discover what hidden messages and surprises many a Swiftie surmises the star could be sending from the stage.

The 'Red (Taylor's Version)' T-Shirt

During the part of the setlist where Taylor revisits her Red era, she dons a T-shirt similar to the one she wears in the music video for 2012’s “22.” In the visual, the shirt spells out “Not a lot going on at the moment,” which would go on to become a famously surefire sign to Swifties around the world that their queen was, indeed, working on a major surprise. (See: the one-two punch of 2020’s Folklore and Evermore .)

However, on the opening night of the tour (March 17), Tay’s shirt rewrote the phrase to read “A lot going on at the moment” in bold block letters, with “A lot” sticking out in bright red. The next night, the shirt changed to a spoken lyric from “22”: “Who’s Taylor Swift anyway? Ew.” This time, “Ew.” was highlighted in red.

One fan on TikTok thought the red words would eventually lead to an anagram spelling out “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version).” While the shirts didn’t make it all the way through Speak Now , Swift did, in fact, announce the 2010 third studio album as her next re-recording, out July 7 .

Breaking 'Speak Now (Taylor's Version)' Out Of Its Box?

Footage of Swift performing Reputation lead single “Look What You Made Me Do” piqued fans’ curiosity as multiple backup singers seeming to represent her many album eras appeared on stage trapped in giant plastic boxes.

Given the rampant online fan speculation that Speak Now would be the next re-recording the star plans to drop, special attention was paid to the backup vocalist in the box wearing a purple halter dress remarkably similar to an outfit Swift wore on her Speak Now World Tour throughout 2011 and 2012. As Taylor approaches her box, the star pounds on the glass along to the beat as the singer inside tries to get out. At first glance, the moment looks innocuously like part of the choreography, but many Swifties surmised that it could represent the pending release of Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) , which had been entangled in legal red tape over trademark and copyright issues until earlier this week.

Interestingly, most of the other singers-as-album eras are eventually freed from their boxes, but by song’s end, the Speak Now avatar and one other singer representing a mystery era remain stuck inside theirs.

Check out fan-captured video of the moment on TikTok .

Of course, the theory was confirmed May 5, when Swift officially announced Speak Now  (Taylor’s Version)  at Nashville’s Nissan Stadium.

'Speak Now' or Later?

Another Speak Now theory came in a reverse Easter egg. So far, her setlist is one for the ages — 44 songs from 10 albums over the course of three hours and fifteen minutes. But out all the fan favorites she performed at Arizona’s State Farm Arena during the first two shows, she included only a single song from 2010’s Speak Now in the form of album cut and originally planned title track “Enchanted.”

The absence of hits such as “Mine,” “Back to December,” “Dear John,” “Mean” and “The Story of Us” felt like a glaring omission, but as with everything Taylor does, the choice may have been entirely intentional. Plenty of fans theorized that the singer was purposely minimizing the attention of her third album because she could be on the precipice of releasing Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) .

The Light-Up Wristband Colors

OK, one more Speak Now Easter Egg for good measure. A week before Swift’s announcement that Taylor’s Version of her third album is on the way, she teased Eras Tour attendees at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium when their light-up wristbands turned purple at the end of the show, a color that represents  Speak Now .

A Manicure for Her 'Eras Era'

One day ahead of the tour, Tay shared a sneak peek at the rehearsal process on social media, coyly writing, “In my Eras era” alongside a carousel of photos from the stage. The last snap in the slideshow, though, showed off the star’s delicate manicure featuring a different shade on each finger representing a separate album era — sparkling gold for Fearless (Taylor’s Version) , shiny teal for 1989 , matte black for Reputation , and so on.

The 'Bejeweled' TikTok Dance

She can make the whole stadium shimmer! During the portion of the setlist dedicated to 2022’s Midnights , fans took notice when Swift broke into the viral “Bejeweled” choreography created by TikTok user Mikael Arellano, strutting across the stage with her dancers before twirling and doing the creator’s “twinkle fingers” move with her hand. Watch Arellano’s giddy reaction to seeing the dance here .

Taylor Swift at Wembley review: Spectacular show confirms her rep as the queen of dazzling pop

reputation tour wristband

Thirty-six hours and 90 miles later, my wristband from Taylor Swift ’s extraordinary Wembley show was still flashing. The white rubber device, given to every audience member, was a tireless reminder that when it comes to the maximum dazzle of stadium pop, nobody does it better.

The wristband stunt was borrowed from Coldplay , but I don’t recall theirs flashing with so many colours, or appearing to move in such a quickfire variety of patterns. Mexican waves of light swooped across the vast space, a hypnotic spectacle as the sun set. If the advanced negative reports about ticket sales were to believed, those lights could have been significantly less spectacular. But in the end the stadium looked very close to full.

In any case, London has rarely had so much to choose from, so close together, when it comes to superstars. Ed Sheeran , Shakira , Katy Perry , Jay-Z and Beyoncé , The Rolling Stones , Foo Fighters and Liam Gallagher are all in town this month. Justin Timberlake , Bruno Mars , Eminem and Britney Spears are coming in a few weeks.

Only an oligarch could attend everything. But if you had to choose, this was the one. Swift’s Reputation Tour, named after last year’s album, was the moment when pop’s innocent princess took control of her own story. Once upon a time, things happened to her that seemed beyond her control: John Mayer dumped her, a radio DJ groped her at a backstage meet and greet, Kim Kardashian called her a snake on social media and Kanye West did all manner of horrible things.

Now, the DJ has been beaten in court, Mayer was exposed in one of her songs, West’s genius is faltering and as for the snakes, they belong to Swift now. During Look What You Made Me Do, the giant video screens parted to reveal an inflatable cobra looming down at the front rows. A gold one curled around her microphone. As she floated across the stadium in a glowing basket to sing Shake It Off with her support acts Charli XCX and Camila Cabello, two more billowing serpents rose up from stages in the middle of the pitch.

Taylor Swift's best ever tracks

reputation tour wristband

“Your reputation is what people say when you’re not there,” Swift explained between songs. Here she owned the insults, arriving on stage to the sound of media criticisms of her and revelling in a new mean queen persona. The songs of Reputation, whose dark electronic throbs have made it an underwhelming seller next to its brighter predecessor, 1989, came into their own in the stadium. “They say I did something bad/Then why’s it feel so good?” she sang on I Did Something Bad, while her army of dancers formed a funeral pyre beneath her and fireballs exploded.

Later, during Don’t Blame Me, she looked like the black-clad leader of an evil cult, framed on screens altered to the shape of church windows. This is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things, the fireworks finale, saw her and her team cavorting around a real fountain while an image of a grand house gradually crumbled. Niall Horan of One Direction , a surprise guest for a duet of his song Slow Hands, looked like a lucky competition winner next to her star power (she sang Angels with Robbie Williams the next night).

This was worlds away from the country-pop starlet who released her debut album at 16. She picked up an acoustic guitar just twice, for solo renditions of So It Goes… and Dancing With Our Hands Tied. However, it was at the piano that she had her most memorable moment.

In the middle of New Year’s Day, she paused and looked out. Cheering began which went on for an astonishing amount of time, getting louder the more overwhelmed she appeared. At a time when so many seem to be against her, the swelling noise from all those dots of light was a startling reminder of how many still want her to win — which she did in emphatic style.

Fans pile into final Wembley Stadium show hoping Taylor Swift will announce 'Reputation'

LONDON — Fans are clowning hard that Taylor Swift is going to announce "Reputation (Taylor's Version)" at the Eras Tour .

In Swiftie lingo, the term clowning refers to fans believing something may happen and when it doesn't looking like clowns. The rerelease of Swift's sixth album has been highly anticipated by fans chomping at the bit for the possible announcement. Every show along the European leg had some conspiracy theory tied to possible Easter egg clues dropped by Swift, but the one gaining the most traction is the final night at Wembley and last stop in Europe.

Before entering the stadium on Tuesday, Bridget Saric of Queensland, Australia, was one of those fans hoping she gets a surprise.

"I just feel like there's so much more tension in the air. I feel like it's all eyes on Wembley. It's all about Taylor and what she's going to do. It's crazy," she said.

Saric started a trend on TikTok where she is dancing every day until Swift's team notices her. Her goal is to meet the superstar. And even if that doesn't happen, she just enjoys spreading cheer. On Tuesday night, she plans to claim her spot on the floor and "Shake It Off" like she has at 13 other Eras Tour shows.

Her favorite song to dance to is "Fearless."

"It just takes me away every time," she said. "Also, I would probably say 'Betty.' I don't know what it is, but it just hits every time. The ["Reputation"] songs as well, every single one of them."

As Saric made her way to join 92,000 other Swifties inside, sketch artist Chris Lloyd readied his bag holding paint colors, pens, a miniature water bottle and sketch pad. The artist has gone viral a few times for creating whimsical scenes at concerts.

"The Eras Tour is properly a cultural moment," he said. "It's beyond the concert in my opinion. Like, this is so special because of the community and not just because of what happens in those three hours."

Lloyd has received attention from Elton John, Kylie Minogue, Sam Smith, Florence Pugh, Sabrina Carpenter and athletes of the Great Britain Olympics team. But it's not always sketches of celebrities that gain attention. The artist's most recent piece of a security guard handing out water bottles at Saturday night's show has been viewed more than 320,000 times on Instagram.

"I've drawn so many pop stars now that I'm actually really enjoying kind of picking a stranger out in the crowd that deserves something brilliant to happen," he said. "It's very much in line with the Swiftie energy as well. Like the community here is fab, and like, it's just nice to give back to that."

Swift set a new record for a solo artist at the British arena. She mentioned the feat while thanking fans at the start of her show.

"Not only our last night in London, but this is our last night on the European leg of the Eras Tour," she boomed. "You just made me the first solo artist to ever play Wembley eight times in a single tour. You doing that for us is forever."

Whether or not she announces a new album, fans are expecting some surprise before the confetti falls and the stage lights turn off.

Swift has a two-month break before kicking off her final North American leg in Miami in October.

…Ready For It? Halloween, I mean. No, me neither. If you're looking for Taylor Swift Halloween costumes, though, then you've found your people (me).

From Taylor's OG country days, to red carpet looks, music video costumes and now the Eras Tour outfits (sparkly rhinestone bodysuit I'm looking at you), Taylor has given us so many ‘fits to recreate… it might even make You Need To Calm Down . And if you’re wondering how many Taylor Swift song lyrics and titles I can reference in this article, then prepare yourself.

Swifties know Tay is having quite a year. From the release of The Tortured Poets Department which became Spotify's most-streamed album in a day with over 300 million streams in less than 12 hours (yes, I was one of those streams… okay, maybe two) to the Eras Tour, she's been unstoppable.

The three-hour show has seen Swifites dress up in sequin and fringe dresses and trade bracelets. There have been surprise songs , surprise guests , even a surprise cameo on stage from Taylor's boyfriend Kansas City Chiefs player Travis Kelce. The singer doesn't stop surprising us. I mean, who knows what easter eggs we've missed? I'm officially ready for Reputation – Taylor's Version. The UK leg of the tour has even seen Royal Swifties in attendance, and we've all learnt the chants , right? All of this to say, Taylor has to be one of the most iconic people to dress as this Halloween.

Well, according to Google there was twice as much search in the UK for 'Taylor Swift Halloween Costume' last October than the one before, and, in and amongst the Eras Tour this summer , people have already been searching for the best Taylor Swift looks to wear for Halloween 2024. So I'm predicting there'll be even more Taylors at your Halloween party this year.

The Rings of Power season 2 release schedule in full

Whether you're in your Lover or Reputation era, you want to DIY a Taylor Swift Eras Tour look or you just want to nod to Debut or Fearless with a pair of cowboy boots , there's Taylor Swift Halloween costumes for every Swiftie. Read on for the best Halloween costume ideas – whether it's something last-minute on Amazon or if you're planning a full ‘fit ahead of time, we’ve got you covered.

Here are the best Taylor Swift costumes that will ‘never go out of style’…

Taylor swift costume idea 1:.

If you're in your Lover era on tour…

If you were lucky enough to get an Eras Tour ticket, or if like me you've just been re-watching the tour film from home, you'll know that seeing Taylor appear on stage in her Atelier Versace rhinestone bodysuit is enough to give anyone goosebumps, Swiftie or not. The infamous bodysuit, which she's also worn in a red version, isn't the only sparkling Versace fashion piece in her set. She adds a glittery Versace blazer to the ‘fit for her performance of The Man .

You can be bejewelled and powerful. One thing's a constant in both looks, and that's the knee-high silver boots. So if you're looking to really channel Tay's popstar presence, the boots are an essential – and I'd also recommend a rhinestone microphone because, well why not? Heart glasses will complement any Lover sequin and tassel look, too.

Taylor Swift Costume Idea 2:

If you're in your bleachers era… or you're the cheer captain

The You Belong With Me music video gives us two memorable costume options. If you want a low maintanence and very comfy costume, opt for Taylor's Junior Jewels look, complete with plaid pjs, of course, and a pair of glasses . But this costume doesn't come with a cute neighbourhood crush, in case you were wondering. Remember to carry around your own ‘You Belong With Me’ sign, just to really commit to the character.

But if you're feeling more cheer captain than bleachers, go for Taylor's alter ego in the video and wear a cheerleader costume. Even better, team up with your bestie and go as a Swiftie duo in both costumes.

Taylor Swift Costume Idea 3:

If you've got a reputation…

Best Taylor Swift Halloween Costumes To Buy 2024

For anyone in their Reputation era, you'll know that snakes are the motif you need to get the look this halloween. Taylor's Eras Tour custom Roberto Cavalli red and black snake unitard (wait, is it a unitard if it only has one leg, and one long sleeve? Asking for the group) has to be the best inspo for a big rep look.

Accessorise your leotard with snake jewellery and a red lip. Taylor is known to have worn the Pat McGrath Liquilust in Elson 4 , FYI. Unsurprisingly it's sold out – the Swifties shop fast – but you can sign up to be notified for restock at Cult Beauty. You can also shop the Pat McGrath Labs MatteTrancesame in a similar Elson shade or try NARS' Bad Reputation Satin Lipstick . Wear your hair loose and add your favourite black boots, then you're Ready For It .

Taylor Swift Costume Idea 4:

If you've got a lot going on this era…

I couldn't discuss Taylor costumes and not look at the Red era. When Taylor released Red in 2012, we started to see her shift away from country music and debut more pop-sounding songs like We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together and 22 .

If you want to create a Red Halloween costume, there are a few essentials. Firstly, the fedora is a must-have, natch. It's become even more solidified in Taylor-lore now that she hands the hat over to a fan during each performance. Next, you can buy slogan tees like Taylor wears in the 22 music video and on stage. The classic choice is the black and red ‘A Lot Going On At The Moment’ tee, inspired by the original video tee but dropping the first word ‘not’, as she has on tour.

There are also other options with ‘We Are Never Getting Back Together, Like Ever’, and ‘Who’s Taylor Swift Anyway, Ew', inspired by other T-shirts the singer's been seen in on stage. Add more rhinestones, just for good measure you know, and red heart glasses. I don't know about you, but I'm feeling this costume.

Taylor Swift Costume Idea 5:

If you're still in your Debut era…

Best Taylor Swift Halloween Costumes To Buy 2024

Hey, I don't blame you if you never let the Debut era go. All the OG Swifties know it was an iconic Tay phase. She was just 16 when she released the likes of Tim McGraw and Our Song. Fearless fans will love this look too, as it's rooted in Taylor's country style. The ruffle dresses , the cowboy boots , the curly hair, we love it all. It's also a pretty easy look to recreate.

Cowboy boots are all over the high street right now and you're sure to wear them beyond your halloween costume, trust me. I love this Dia Studios pair in a failsafe white colourway that will go with everything. Get a ruffle summer dress and a Taylor Debut tee – and if you really want to cosplay Teardrops On My Guitar, you obviously need a guitar to finish the look.

Taylor Swift Bonus Costume Idea:

If you're in your couples' costume era…

Best Taylor Swift Halloween Costumes To Buy 2024

This one's for anyone in their couples' costume era. Take inspo from Taylor and Travis Kelce and get some Kansas City Chiefs merch. We've seen Taylor supporting her American football player boyfriend throughout their relationship – she always looks great as a spectator whether she's in a Chiefs sweatshirt or a red knit (even her signature red lip coordinates with the team's colours).

Whether you want to dress like you're on the field like Travis, or are in the box like Tay – wow, we've really come full circle from those You Belong With Me bleachers days – you'll be the best dressed couple at the party. River Island currently has a fun Kansas City sweatshirt; wear now for your costume and later for loungewear. Pair with some shorts and team branded wristbands just to really emphasise your support for the Chiefs (okay, Taylor). Or go for a jersey if you want to look part of the team. So High School .
