Pet-friendly holiday parks in NSW

Many holiday parks across NSW are pet friendly, so you can enjoy a holiday with your canine pal. Spend the night camping on the beach, cosy up in a country cabin or bring your own camper van for a holiday with your dog, bird, cat or rabbit in NSW.

Before you go

To ensure your holiday is a safe, stress-free experience there are a few precautions to take before setting off. Firstly, make sure your pet's vaccinations are up to date and have your contact details attached to their collar.

You should also consult the pet policy in place at your chosen holiday park. For example, some parks do not allow dogs during school holidays. For peace of mind, speak with the manager of the holiday park prior to booking. Holiday parks also require dogs are kept on a leash at all times and that you clean up after them.

Pets react differently to travel and being on the move without proper planning can cause them distress. Help ensure a smooth ride by providing your animal with enough water and by monitoring the temperature. The Caravan & Camping Industry Association of NSW has the following helpful tips about travelling with pets:

  • Ask your vet for advice before you travel
  • Exercise your pets about 20 minutes before the trip
  • Restrain your pets in a carrier or harness in the car
  • Never leave your pets unattended in your vehicle
  • Take regular bathroom breaks on your journey

It's worth noting that no domestic pets – other than trained assistance animals like guide dogs – are allowed in national parks, State conservation areas, reserves, historic sites or Aboriginal cultural heritage areas.

12 Extra Dog-Friendly Caravan Parks in NSW

While a large number of caravan parks in NSW allow pets to stay with you, especially outside of peak times, there are some caravan parks in NSW that are truly dog-friendly, and worthwhile hunting out if you are travelling with your dog in NSW .

These caravan parks truly treat your dog as a guest of the park. Some parks have fenced off-leash dog parks for your dog to exercise onsite, while others have pet-friendly cabins , dog washes, washing machines for your dog’s bedding or even pet-sitting. Next time you are holiday with your dog, stay at one of these extra dog-friendly caravan parks in NSW.

#1 Discovery Parks – Forster

I’ve had the pleasure of staying at Discovery Parks – Forster , one of the most dog-friendly caravan parks in NSW. Dogs are allowed to stay at the park year round, both on selected sites as well as in selected cabins, including the Deluxe Riverfront cabins. The pet-friendly cabins are clearly listed on the website .

Discovery Parks Forster Riverfront Cabins

There’s a shady fenced dog park with seating onsite, which I believe has been extended with an area just for small dogs since my stay. Every Sunday at 8am there is a Discovery Barks Walk, another great way to socialise your dog, followed by drinks and nibbles. And if your dog is rather sandy after a day at the local off-leash beaches , make use of the self-service dog wash and blow dry.

Schnitzel in the off-leash area

Note that usually only one dog per booking is permitted, with possible management approval for a second dog. Dogs must be registered, microchipped and vaccinated.

#2 Riverwood Downs, Barrington Tops

For a country stay with your dog in NSW, look no further than Riverwood Downs . Located in the Barrington Tops region, 2 1/2 hours drive north of Sydney, while pets are not allowed in the nearby national park, they are warmly welcomed at this destination.

As well as on the Riverside and Parkland camp sites, dogs are also allowed in a number of accommodation options, including the Pet-Friendly Family Cabins, Spa Cabins, selected Boutique rooms and the Bunkhouse. And there’s no peak season restrictions.

Riverwood Downs has a huge 750 acres for you to explore, play and swim with your pup, ranging from manicured lawns to walking trails and a mountain river. In selected areas they’re allowed off-leash, as long as they’re under your control.

Afterwards, relax at the onsite Barrington Bar and Grill, with verandah tables available to guests with dogs, plus their own dog menu.

#3 Reflections Holiday Parks Lennox Head

If you’re looking for dog-friendly caravan parks throughout NSW, check out the range of dog-friendly parks from Reflections Holiday Parks . Currently 30 out of their 37 parks located around the state are dog-friendly, although not all the parks are dog-friendly year round, with some having seasonal restrictions.

One of the most dog-friendly Reflections Holiday Parks is their Lennox Head park. Dogs are permitted at this park year round, on all sites plus in selected deluxe and economy cabins. Book directly with the park if you are bringing along a dog.

Reflections Lennox Head with Dog

What makes Reflections Holiday Parks Lennox Head extra dog-friendly is their recently opened fenced dog park. It’s a great spot for all park guests to gather and allow their dogs to burn some energy, with more agility equipment to be introduced in coming months.

Reflections Lennox Head Dog Off-Leash Area

Don’t also miss heading to the nearby off-leash dog beach. Seven Mile Beach is off-leash north of the surf club – use the access path just past the club, keeping your dog leashed on the path until you get to the off-leash area. Lennox Head is just 20 minute south of Byron Bay , but a more peaceful alternative.

#4 Reflections Holiday Parks Evans Head

Another Reflections Holidays Parks with great facilities for dogs is Reflections Holiday Parks Evans Head . It’s also now pet-friendly year round, plus is one of the few caravan park in Australia with fenced pens for dogs.

Reflections Evans Head Dog Pen

Book one of these special dog-friendly powered sites in the Riverside precinct and you’ll have your own private pen for your pup at the shady rear of your site, ideal for relaxing times. The park also has two dog washes, perfect for rinsing off the sand at the end of busy beach days.

Dog bath at Reflections Evan Heads

Most of the sites are pet-friendly in the Riverside precinct of this large park, as well as selected sites in the Beachside precinct. There are now also a selection of dog-friendly cabins, villas and tiny homes available to book. Up to two dogs are permitted per booking.

While pet dogs are not allowed on the nearby patrolled beach, head a couple of kilometres north to the off-leash Airforce Beach. This quiet beachside spot is located halfway between Ballina and Yamba.

Some other Reflections Holiday Parks that are favourites with dog owners include:

  • Reflections Holiday Parks North Haven , with a dog wash and washing machine for dog bedding
  • Reflections Holiday Parks Moonee Beach , just north of Coffs Harbour , with plenty of pet-friendly cabins and a deluxe dog wash

Reflections Moonee Beach with Firepit

#5 BIG4 Saltwater Yamba

Another great dog-friendly caravan park on the Far North Coast of NSW that welcomes pets year round, including school holidays, is the BIG4 Saltwater Yamba .

In addition to powered and unpowered campsites, there are now ten cabins that are welcome pets inside, including all three Banksia cabins, plus four of the deluxe Figtree Cabins and three of the smaller Casuarina Studio Cabins. Both the Banksia and Casuarina cabins feature a fully enclosed deck.

Onsite is a fully fenced off-leash dog park, complete with ramps and tunnels, and even a shelter for supervising humans. There’s also a K9000 dog wash, essential after days at the local off-leash beaches, plus a dog-friendly washing machine for their towels and bedding.

Most dog breeds are accepted in the park, with a limit of one dog per cabin, but more than one dog generally accepted on sites. There is a small additional charge of $12 per night for pets to stay in cabins, or $5 per night on sites.

#6 Double D Caravan Park, Peak Hill

The Double D Caravan Park in Peak Hill comes highly praised by previous guests. Located about 30 minutes north of Parkes, it’s also about halfway between Melbourne and Brisbane on the inland route between the two cities, so is a popular stopover location.

As well as an excellent camp kitchen and a quiet location, there’s a long list of dog-friendly amenities. There’s an off-leash dog area and dog wash onsite, plus a fenced pet-friendly BBQ area. If you’d like to see the local sights, doggy day care can be provided. Plus one of the motel units is pet-friendly, in case you aren’t towing a caravan.

The park has recently changed hands, so hopefully the new owners retain the same great dog-friendly facilities.

#7 Capital Country Caravan Park, Sutton

The Capital Country Caravan Park is conveniently close to Canberra, but located back in NSW just before you cross the border into NSW, so makes it onto this list.

This park is particularly popular with dog owners for it dog freedom sites . There are four powered sites that have been fully fenced, enabling you to park your van inside the enclosure and not worry about keeping your dog leashed while onsite. Make sure you book in advance and specify the size of your van, with each of the sites of varying size.

The park also has two dog-friendly bungalows , that can accommodate up to four guests. The park is close to multiple dog-friendly wineries plus the many dog-friendly sights of Canberra .

Dog-Friendly Canberra

#8 Discovery Parks – Mildura, Buronga Riverside

Note: This park is temporarily closed due to recent flooding, but is due to re-open in April 2024, hopefully with the same great facilities

Located on the NSW side of the Murray River across from the inland city of Mildura , Discovery Parks – Buronga Riverside is pet-friendly year round. Dogs are permitted on all campsites, including the riverfront sides and ensuite powered sites, plus in selected cabins. Book directly with the park to find out about the pet-friendly options available.

On the edge of the park is a fenced dog park for off-leash fun. Previous guests have also reported that this a dog wash onsite, a washing machine for pet bedding, plus poles outside the amenities block to tie up your dog while you duck inside.

#9 NRMA Dubbo Holiday Park

Dubbo is a popular destination in country NSW, and you’re welcome to bring along your pet if you’re staying at the NRMA Dubbo Holiday Park . In addition to the wide variety of pet-friendly sites, including their new fenced sites , there are also four pet-friendly cabins.

Choose between two-bedroom cabin sleeping up to six or studio cabins, sleeping either four or five guests. Each of the pet-friendly cabins has a small fenced yard and a small kennel. Note that there is a limit of one pet per cabin and an additional fee applies, plus you’ll need to book directly with the park.

Also onsite for all dogs to enjoy is a fenced off-leash dog park, near the jumping pillow. Recommendations can be made for local doggy daycare if you’re heading to the zoo for the day, otherwise consider visiting the dog-friendly Old Dubbo Gaol.

#10 Tathra Beachfront Holiday Park

If you’re heading to the Far South Coast of NSW for a beachside holiday with your dog, look no further than the pet-friendly Tathra Beachfront Holiday Park , formerly Tathra Beachside. Small to medium dogs are welcome on powered and ensuite sites nearly all year long (except between 26th December and 9th January), plus in designated pet-friendly cottages and villas all year long.

The entrance and playground at Tathra Beachside

There are four two-bedroom pet-friendly cottage, sleeping up to five, or two larger pet-friendly villas, sleeping up to six with two pairs of bunks. The pet-friendly cottages feature a fenced yard and deck with kennel, while the villas have an enclosed verandah. Both allow pets inside, but not in the carpeted bedrooms.

Tathra Beachside Pet-Friendly Cottage

Upon arrival at the park all pets will be greeted with a welcome treat, plus pet supplies can be purchased at the reception. The park is close to the off-leash stretch of Tathra Beach, which starts at the northern boundary of the park. There’s also a convenient warm dog wash located in the laundry.

Tathra Beach Walkway

#11 BIG4 Opal Holiday Park, Lightning Ridge

The BIG4 Opal Holiday Park in Lightning Ridge is a delightfully dog-friendly caravan park in outback NSW. Dogs are welcome at the park, although cats and birds are not allowed.

As well as being permitted on sites, dogs are also welcome in designated Outback Cabins. These cabins that have a queen bed and two sets of bunks are ideal for couples or young families. Note that you should request pre-approval for your pet, and an additional fee applies for pets.

The park also offers dog daycare, ideal for sightseeing around Lightning Ridge, plus has its own off-leash dog exercise area. Guests also praise the evening bush poet performances and the park’s close location to the local artesian baths.

#12 Ingenia Holidays Byron Bay, Byron Bay

During my visit to Byron Bay with my dog, I stayed at the extra pet-friendly Ingenia Holidays Byron Bay . Located a few kilometres south of Byron Bay proper in Suffolk Park, this park also a number of perks for dog owners.

For starters, pets are allowed not only on sites, but also in selected studio cabins and standard villas – see the listing on their website. Note though that blackout dates do apply, although these are not listed – it probably includes the summer school holidays and Easter long weekend. There is also a limit of one pet per booking, unless arranged prior.

The park is just a short walk to the off-leash Tallow Beach, one of two off-leash dog beaches in Byron Bay. Just keep in mind the access path passes through a wetlands area, so it does sometime flood, including during our stay.

The tea tree lake in the wetland behind Ingenia Holidays Byron Bay

For more off-leash fun with your dog, use the small fenced exercise area at the rear of the park. Even better, they now also have a dog wash in the visitors parking area – perfect for after days at the beach with your pup!

Don't leave home without them

You can take all your family members on holiday as there are many NSW caravan and holiday parks that welcome pets and are dog-friendly, however, every park has its own pet policy and conditions will apply.

The most common conditions are:

  • Check with each park their terms and conditions
  • Dogs are welcome on application at Manager’s discretion
  • Restrictions of dates i.e. Dogs not permitted during school holidays
  • Dogs are to be kept on a lead at all times
  • Restrictions on where the dogs can stay (cabins, sites etc.)
  • Clean up after your dog

In addition, make sure you pack everything your pet will need for the duration of the trip, as you may not be able to buy the products when travelling or at your destination.

Spending time with your pet in the great outdoors can bring out the best in you and helps you to relax.

Best Dog-Friendly Camping Spots in NSW

pet friendly tourist parks nsw

Camping is one of the best ways to get away from it all. When you have a dog to accompany you, you've got everything you need for a relaxing weekend of stargazing, walks, and privacy. If you're one of the 40% of Australians who owns a dog, you're not alone! There's no better way to spend a weekend away from the city than with the company of your pet among nature. Despite this, as most dog owners know, it can be difficult to find a great dog-friendly camping spot.

27 Best Dog-Friendly Campgrounds and Camping Spots in New South Wales

Written for Auski by Pink Lemonade Social

Here at Auski, We. Love. Dogs! As avid campers and dog owners, we've done all the legwork for you and compiled a list of the best dog-friendly campgrounds in NSW.

If you're planning to camp in a National Park in New South Wales, you'll sadly need to leave your dog at home. No dogs are allowed in NSW National Parks in order to protect the state's wildlife. Your dog's presence or scent may scare away native animals because they perceive dogs as predators. Regardless of how lovable a dog is, it is still a danger.

Below are some of the best places to camp in New South Wales that allow dogs. When in doubt, call ahead and inquire about whether a location is dog-friendly. Better to be safe than sorry. You and your dog can look forwards to a long weekend or week away full of fun activities in the great outdoors.

Top Dog-Friendly campgrounds in NSW

Just remember: • The safety of your dog is your primary concern. Never leave your dog unattended outdoors. • If your dog is left unattended in your vehicle, ensure that it has access to adequate ventilation, shade, and water. • Plants, insects, and wildlife can all transmit diseases to dogs, so stay knowledgeable. • Respect the off-leash and on-leash rules of the campground. • Remember to clean up after your dog and place waste in designated containers whenever possible. • Don't forget dog food and toys!

Now onto the best dog-friendly campsites in New South Wales, and as we have rounded up 27 of them, we thought it's best to list them alphabetically, not necessarily by our preference. Read on to discover our pick!

The Best Dog-Friendly Campgrounds in NSW

Barkala, dandry.

Barkala Farmstay (image right) welcomes guests who bring their own lodging, whether it's a caravan, tent, or something else. Barkala Farm Stay has other accommodations besides camping, including cottages and studios; just make sure to bring your own dog bedding and that your pet is house trained. There's no shortage of old-fashioned outdoor pursuits to partake in, or you can just sit back and take it all in. Keep your four-legged pal on a lead where possible to help protect the abundant local wildlife.

Bundarra Lions Park, Bundarra

Overlooking the creek, this lovely open green space is truly lovely. Bundarra Lions Park is a dog-friendly camping area with flush toilets, water, garbage bins, campfires, and shady trees for campers. Proving popular with caravans and campervans, it's rarely too crowded to find a spot. You can access the river by climbing down the bank or walking downstream. As this is a community-maintained site, don't expect too much in the way of amenities. A platypus sighting is a must-do while visiting this location. Sit on the riverbank at dusk and dawn if you're in the area and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere.

Bobs Bend Camp ground, Burraboon

Bobs Bend campground (image right) is a dog-friendly camping/farm stay operation featuring a man-made lake dug by the current owners' father to serve as a swimming pool for the former Booroorban School. Located in the Riverina region of Australia, Burraburoon is a working sheep station. You can stay in a converted red-rattler railway carriage or other unique accommodations at the homestead. Aside from that, Bob's Bend offers remodelled caravans as well as powered and unpowered camping sites. The beautiful lake allows for swimming, fishing, or canoeing. With adequate toilet and shower facilities, camp kitchen and wood-fired oven, you can spend your downtime enjoying the lake as a backdrop, plenty of walks, birdlife and local wildlife.

Coachwood Camping Area, Chichester State Forest, Upper Allyn

Anyone who has ever seen The Blue Lagoon and thought, "Wow, that sounds fantastic" should read this. Three and a half hours north of Sydney, the Coachwood Camping Area is remote and was previously only accessible only by 4WD (recent 2WD drivers now recommend its possible, but it can be difficult). Paddling can be done with or without a dog in the lagoon, which sits on the Telegherry River surrounded by a lush rainforest setting. Coachwood can be busy on weekends and during peak periods, so plan accordingly.

Delicate Campground, Kempsey

Delicate Campground is a "remote visit" located north of Port Macquarie. There will be no assistance here, so you'll need to bring all your own supplies (including a general okayness with an outside toilet situation; flushable toilets and outdoor showers only). There is no restriction on beach or caravan camping, and pets are more than welcome. Make sure you arrive early, as there are only 50 unpowered campsites to choose from and bookings are not available. Despite all this, there is a large beach for dogs to play on, only a 5 minute walk away, and the campground is situated in beautiful surroundings. Here, you can go snorkelling, surfing, or just walk your dog on the beach without worrying about a leash. Delicate Campground is one of the best dog-friendly campgrounds in New South Wales!

Glen Davis Campground, Glen Davis

Glen Davis (image right), located west of the Blue Mountains National Park, is a sleepy town north of Lithgow, about 3.5 hours' drive from Sydney. There's a beautiful campground near town with swimming and shopping right around the corner. A small playground and hot showers are included in the cost of using the campground. It's important to note that the campground in Glen Davis is dog friendly; the Coorongooba campground is not dog friendly as it's located within the national park.

Glenmack Park, Moss Vale

Glenmack Park is a camping and holiday park in the Kangaroo Valley (image right), providing outstanding nature views. With a swimming pool, canoes, bikes, animals, and a mini-golf course, this is an ideal spot for families. Experience beautiful rural views, and a wealth of amenities abound at this top-notch campground. All the powered sites have plenty of room, and most include a fire pit. There is a large pond in the middle of the unpowered site area. The paddock is surrounded by lush green grass, and there are cows grazing nearby. There is a large open fireplace in the camp kitchen, as well as numerous tables and chairs. You can watch movies on the big screen in the movie theatre room and have access to the friendly and helpful staff.

Grady's Riverside Retreat, Burrier

Natural bushlands, mountains and cliffs surround Grady's, which is situated on the banks of the Shoalhaven River. If you want to bring your family and friends to Grady's Riverside Retreat, you'll find it ideal. Powered campsites are available, though not on the water. Enjoy open campfires (excluding during total fire bans), and dogs must be kept on leash at all times.

Halifax Holiday Park, Nelson Bay

Halifax (image right) in New South Wales is a great place to camp with your dog because it is surrounded by two calm, blue-green water beaches. Deep water boat ramps, as well as a slew of cafes and restaurants, are all within easy driving distance of Sydney. Halifax has the same pet rules, so you'll have to work around the park's busiest times. However, if you do, you'll have direct access to Shoal Bay Beach, as well as BBQs, picnic areas, and a slew of walking and biking trails. Halifax Holiday Park is the ideal destination for families looking to relax and unwind in beautiful surroundings. A 15-minute walk from the park brings you to the heart of Nelson Bay, hosting plenty of cafes, shops, and restaurants, as well as a boat ramp and marina for those who enjoy boating. Why stay for the weekend when you can stay for the week? The park has a well-equipped camp kitchen, comfortable lounge seating, and guest laundry.

Ingenia Holidays, South West Rocks

At Ingenia , you can camp with your dog in a beautiful natural setting on the banks of a tidal waterway. Among the activities, you can do with your dog in this area are fishing and surfing. The only thing you need to do is check the availability of pet-friendly caravan and camping sites beforehand.

Lake Burrendong, Dubbo

Although she's not a "natural" lake, Lake Burrendong is still a stunning one. In addition to being a popular destination for campers and bushwalkers, Lake Burrendong is surrounded by dense bushland. In order to get the most out of your trip, we suggest making reservations for a shoreline spot at Lake Burrendong Holiday and Caravanning Park in Eagle Beagle Bay. This is the perfect spot for exploring the surrounding bushland and watching the sunset over a mini valley.

Lake Lyell Recreation Park, Lyell Lake, Lithgow

Lake Lyell (image right), on the outskirts of Lithgow and under three hours from Sydney, is a great getaway spot and another great spot to go camping with your dog. The lake was created in 1982 for the Mount Piper and Wallerawang Power Stations and is suitable for fishing, waterskiing , swimming, and jet skiing. Outside of peak season, dogs are permitted at the discretion of the manager at caravan and camping sites.

Merry Beach Caravan Park, Kioloa

The coastal heart of Murramarang National Park is home to Merry Beach Caravan Park (image right) (and it's the absolute definition of beachfront) and is one of the best dog-friendly camp spots in NSW. Sites with beach views and ensuite facilities are available for campers (and caravanners, if you're into that sort of thing); alternatively, you can opt for a site without electricity. Open fires can be started in a brazier or an above-ground fire pit at all campgrounds. Dogs are allowed all year round, but there is a maximum of two dogs per booking, and you must keep your dog on a leash while in the park.

Mystery Bay Campground, Mystery Bay

It's impossible to overstate the beauty of Mystery Bay Campground . Five hours from Sydney, this ocean-side campsite is ideal for families and their pets who enjoy taking a dip, as well as surfers. In the immediate area, you can go beach fishing and surfing. Your dog may not appreciate the rocky coves and cliffs in Mystery Bay, but your Instagram followers will. Whilst close to the beach, unfortunately, you can't camp on the beach, and it is only dog friendly from 5 p.m. to 9 a.m. There's no need to make reservations, but camping can get crowded; first come, first served is the only way to camp here.

Old Bara Campsite, Mudgee

Visit Old Bara Campsite (image right) if you want to experience true wilderness camping with your dog. In addition, there is a small swimming hole where your dog can cool off after all the free-running it will do. Guests and their canine companions can enjoy a variety of scenic walking and cycling trails in the area. Unfortunately, there are no showers here, but their facilities have been voted the best in Australia by campers!

Riverwood Downs, Dog-friendly campigng in NSW

Riverwood Downs, Barrington Tops National Park, Monkerai

"Fur babies" is a phrase that Riverwood Downs are very familiar with, and you can tell they love dogs just as much as you or I. All 750 acres of their camping area are open to dogs, whether they are on or off-leash. Walking trails and mountain pools are also available for you and your dog to enjoy, so pack your swimwear to enjoy a dip with the doggo (image right). Even though most campsites lack electricity, there are hot showers and a coin-operated laundry facility. Not a fan of camping? There are also pet-friendly, well decked out cabins available. From hiking trails to cool mountain pools, crackling log fires, to wildlife and stargazing, there's plenty to do with your dog here. After a long day of exploring, you can unwind at the hotel's spa or grab a drink at the Woodside Bar and Grill (for you, not your doggo) to reward yourself.

Shallow Crossing Camp Ground, Mogood

The Clyde River in southern New South Wales is home to a dog-friendly private bush campsite that operates on tank water. Shallow Crossing Camp Ground is situated approximately halfway between Ulladulla and Batemans Bay. The campground has been around for 20 years. It provides campers with easy access to the river via a tidal causeway that allows for shallow swimming for families, children, and dogs and easy canoe or kayak launching. Camping is available on the riverfront flats; enjoy amenities and open fires with provided fire drums (except during a total fire ban). Some of the other activities available to campers include Push Bike riding through nearby State Forests, Bush Walking, Fishing (when permitted), Bird watching, or simply relaxing in the lovely bush setting.

Turon Gates, Blue Mountains, The Best Dog-Friendly camping in NSW

Shoal Bay Holiday Park, Shoal Bay

Shoal Bay Holiday Park is the perfect spot for your next camping trip with your dog on Australia's east coast, right next to one of the region's most beautiful beaches. Pups are only allowed in during non-holiday times (so no dogs are allowed during school breaks or long weekends, but regular weekends are dog-friendly). This park overlooks Shoal Bay, one of the most beautiful beaches in New South Wales, and is ideal for relaxing on the beach or taking your dog for a long walk. '

Turon Gates, Turon River, Blue Mountains

A retreat plus mountains equal one of our favourite types of vacations. Turon Gates (image left) is a dog-friendly camping area in the Blue Mountains Valley, located along the Turon River, one of the most remote dog-friendly camping destinations in Australia. Even though Turon Gates is only 6,000 acres, it feels like it was built with pets in mind. Your dog will enjoy the outdoors with you no matter what type of lodging you choose; a campsite, log cabin or the single pet-friendly bush glamping tent. You can also go mountain biking (BYO), canoeing, or gold panning. As long as the pets are under control, they are permitted to be off-lead. With the Blue Mountains in such close proximity, there is also an abundance of activities and hikes nearby. There are hot showers and restrooms available, and the views from here are unmatched! If you want a quiet place to spend the night, this is the place for you.

Wollondilly River Station, Southern Highlands NSW

Wee Jasper Reserves, Wee Jasper

There are four distinct camping areas at Wee Jasper , providing a different and unique experience. The family-run campsite at Micalong Creek is a great place to go hiking with a dog on a leash, visit local caves, or take a dip in one of the nearby Micalong swimming holes. The river is great for fishing, and there are rope swings along the river walk for the kids as well!

Wollondilly River Station, Goodmans Ford, Southern Highlands

All pets are welcome at Wollondilly River Station (image left), an authentic camping experience, and as long as you keep your dog under control at all times, you can take them off the leash. There is no electricity, no on-site shop, no showers or drinking water and no lights in the bathroom at this 'traditional' campground, which is located about three hours from Sydney. However, there are plenty of opportunities for hiking, swimming, bushwalking, fishing and stargazing in the area. The best part? There will be no differential pricing based on the time of day, and this spot is right on the river. All year long, there is a set fee. The camp spots which allow campfires are well spaced, giving privacy and solitude, and surrounded by a range of birdlife – even in the height of summer, you won't face overcrowded sites.

Yadboro Flats, Yadboro

The banks of the Clyde River offer yet another tranquil setting. Yadboro Flats is a free camping area with 20 sites available. Although long-drop toilets are available, bring your own water. Recreational swimming in the nearby river and four-wheel-drive tours are also popular. Do not bring your dog into any national park areas other than Yadboro Flats. Bushwalking, swimming, and four-wheel-drive touring are also popular activities. Bring a blanket and a fishing pole because bass fishing is very popular here.

Know another great spot that should make the list, send us an email or hit us up on Facebook .

See you out on in the campgrounds! ✌🏻

5 Dog-Friendly Holiday Parks In NSW

They are man’s best friend. They’re part of the family. And for many, they’re a huge part of what makes travelling around the country so much fun.

We’re talking about dogs, of course! And today, we are going to be taking a look at the best spots and pet-friendly holiday parks in NSW where four-legged travellers are welcome too.

What Does Dog-Friendly Mean?

Terms and conditions apply when you’re travelling with pets. And they can vary from park to park and location to location.

Dogs are typically accepted at the discretion of management.

That’s why, even if advertised as “dog-friendly”, it’s important to contact management prior to making a booking, or showing up to the park unannounced, so you can discuss the specifics of your dog and travel requirements.

Date restrictions often apply.

Many holiday parks will not accept dogs during long weekends, peak periods or school holidays.

6 Tips for Travelling with Pets to Dog Friendly Caravan Parks, NSW

Now that we’ve covered five of the best caravan parks where pets are allowed, let’s quickly cover some tips for traveling with them.

Don’t let your pet run wild

While many holiday and caravan parks let pets stay, this doesn’t mean that they can run wild. Some are more relaxed, while others have a strict on-leash policy. Remember, just because a park is pet-friendly doesn’t mean that everyone staying there feels comfortable with a four-legged barrel charging towards them.

Don’t leave them unattended

Don’t leave them unattended. If you are staying in a pet friendly holiday cabin, the last thing you want is to come back after a night out to find your dog has shredded the furniture. Stress and anxiety levels of being left in unfamiliar surroundings can also cause your dog to make excessive noise. when traveling with pets, every aspect of your holiday needs to be dog friendly.

Otherwise, what is the point in taking them?

Be well Prepared

You’ve packed all of your holiday belongings. Now it’s time to prepare your dogs. Think along the lines of portable water bowls, grooming tools, shampoo and an old towel. Covers for caravan furniture. Toys and treats. Ground stake for the leash, food, and tick treatments. And don’t forget those all-important poop bags!

Make sure your pet is secured in the vehicle

When traveling long distances, aim to stop at least once an hour to let your dog relieve themselves. Also, make sure you give them regular drinks of water and make sure they are safely secured inside the vehicle.

Never leave your dog inside the car

If you need to stop, never leave your dog inside the car. A parked vehicle in full sun can reach temperatures exceeding 200°f in as little as 20 minutes. You wouldn’t put a baby in an oven! Leaving your dog in a car is just as dangerous.

Be aware about the rules and guidelines

Call the Holiday Park or pet-friendly campsite a week or so before your stay to check any guidelines or rules you should be aware of. The best holidays are a problem free holiday, so start as you mean to go on.

Now you know exactly which holiday parks in NSW are pet friendly. And how to safely travel with your dog. Get ready to enjoy an amazing holiday with the whole family, dog included.

“Booked at the last minute (day prior) and what a surprise. This park is truly a hidden gem. Firstly the staff are just so nice and helpful. They really don't run it like a business, it's more like a family. Right on the Bellinger River with beautiful views. The sites are spacious and if you can jag one on the river it's a big plus. We've travelled north so many times and stayed and by passed this park not knowing it was there. It will be our stop over in future.“

Pet-friendly cabins to be offered on new Spirit of Tasmania ferries

Tasmania's two new Bass Strait ferries will have pet-friendly facilities, allowing passengers to choose from sharing a cabin with their pets or visit them at climate-controlled kennels.

Each ship will offer 18 pet-friendly cabins. The ferry operator says pricing for the new feature has yet to be finalised.

What's next?

The new Spirit of Tasmania ships are under construction in Finland and are expected to be in service from 2025.

Pets travelling on the new Spirit of Tasmania ferries will be allowed to bunk with their owners in designated cabins or stay in climate-controlled kennels when the new ships begin sailing from next year.

Ferry operator TT-Line chief executive Bernard Dwyer said the ships' pet-friendly facilities come after listening to passenger feedback.

"We know that pets are cherished members of the family," he said.

"We have listened to the feedback from pet owners who want to travel with us and their pets to make sure our new ships cater for all types of pets and provide more options for owners."

Each of the two new ships will have 18 designated cabins, allowing cats and dogs to remain with their owners on the Bass Strait crossing.

There will be a designated outdoor area onboard where pets can be taken on a leash for toileting needs.

Passengers can also choose from a range of climate-controlled pet kennels.

The kennels will be located in a restricted area separate from the vehicle decks and use new technology to prevent passengers from accessing pets that do not belong to them. The area will also have CCTV video surveillance and only be accessible by crew and pet owners.

Importantly, passengers will be able to visit their pets during the journey.

But there are some constraints to the new ships' pet-friendly features.

Pets staying in cabins will not be permitted in general passenger areas, while pets travelling in kennels will be required to stay there throughout the 12-hour journey.

Owners will also need to bring their pet's own bedding.

A spokesperson for TT-Line said pricing for the pet-friendly cabins "has not ben finalised" but added "no change is expected to pricing strategy".

Current kennels off-limits to pet owners

On the existing ships, pet owners are not permitted to visit the kennels during the voyage for safety reasons.

Mr Dwyer said the new ships have been designed to "provide more options for owners".

"We have observed high demand from passengers wanting to holiday with their pets, as many prefer to keep their furry companions with them instead of leaving them with pet sitters or at boarding kennels close to home," he said.

Mr Dwyer said the company was "particularly proud of the new kennels" and "confident that passengers will be able to relax and enjoy the sailing knowing that their pet is well taken care of".

Sailing in the right direction

The safety and wellbeing of animals travelling on the existing Spirit of Tasmania vessels has been previously raised as a concern.

In 2021, a dog went missing on a sailing between Devonport and Melbourne after escaping from its kennel, sparking a petition that attracted more than 10,000 signatures calling for TT-Line to improve onboard conditions.

In 2019, a South African mastiff died onboard overnight , with the dog's owner claiming he was not advised of the death until the ferry docked the following morning.

RSPCA Tasmania has welcomed the changes to pet travel, with chief executive Andrea Dawkins applauding the new facilities as "fantastic" for not only improving animal wellbeing, but human wellbeing as well.

Ms Dawkins said she had heard from pet owners who were "very concerned about leaving their animals in the kennels previously" due to safety concerns and would often turn to the unsafe practice of leaving animals in cars.

She said the new kennels were a "much, much better way to transport animals" safely, and would benefit a lot of people and their pets.

"[It's] ticking all the boxes from the RSPCA's perspective," Ms Dawkins said.

The new replacement ferries have had a rocky start, mired by construction delays, cost blow outs, and problems with new port infrastructure.

The Spirit of Tasmania IV and V are expected to commence sailing between Geelong and Devonport in 2025.
