Dakota Safaris has been successfully providing trophy mule deer and whitetail deer hunting experiences since 1965 in western South Dakota. Our area encompasses approximately 150,000 acres of privately owned land north and south of Wall, South Dakota, along the rugged Cheyenne River drainage area. We had one deer make the b&c record book in 2010. We guarantee an opportunity of a 4 point on one side or better with a success rate of 95%-100% consistently.

As guests of Dakota Safaris, our deer hunters will have more than 150,000 acres of rugged country along the Cheyenne River reserved exclusively for them as in the past several years. The hills and draws of these river breaks provide ideal habitat for good numbers of whitetail and muley buck deer. These cedar covered hills are their natural romping grounds and their “home on the range”, and have been hunted by Dakota Safaris hunters for 45 years. During your 4-5 day hunt in this ideal deer country, you are not likely to see any other hunters except those in your party. But you will see trophy deer – and you should be able to take home a “big one” and “do it with pride”.

Accommodations

Dakota Safaris will take care of your needs during your hunt. Your guide will pick you up at pre-dawn and will have you back for a catered gourmet meal in the evening. Special beef cuts and steaks have been a priority with our hunters. At our hunting camp, you will be staying at a modern ranch home where beds, linens and towels are provided. Hunting transportation will be in four-wheeled drive vehicles, so you will be able to travel into the heart of the rough country. Dakota Safaris are experienced ranch hands who know the terrain and the hideouts for the “wall hangers”. All clients will either stay at our main camp or with individual ranch families. All meals and necessary amenities are included in the price of the hunt.

How We Hunt

The hunting philosophy of Dakota Safaris and the ranchers on whose land you’ll hunt is to provide a quality trophy deer hunting experience for you and others now and in the years to come. We, therefore, do not promote you shooting anything less than a four-point buck (western count). We aim only to take a few of the big ones each year and thereby preserve a vigorous herd of deer so that year after year we can offer another super hunt, comparable to few others. Hunting this semi-rough terrain can be just about as tough as you want to make it. If you like to walk, there’s plenty of that, and if you prefer to conserve your energy, your guide can locate you to a spot or drive you to strategic points and locations. Ranchers or their employees will guide every hunter to the places where the “wall hangers” reside. The semi-rough terrain is ideal for sitting and spotting or for walking and stalking.

What To Expect

In the 4-5 days of hunting, your guide will have shown you at least several trophy bucks. We hope you have familiarized yourself with the shooting of your rifle or bow, so you can make that fatal shot.   As you know, a hunter cannot brag about his shot when he misses the big one; however, hit or miss, the evening stories still are told. Traveling to our hunting camp is not difficult; you can drive your automobile to our camp by traveling to Wall, SD, 50 miles east of Rapid City, and then 9 miles north on the Creighton Road. You may be interested in knowing that airlines provide regular service to Rapid City. In addition, there is a small lighted airport with about 3,500 foot asphalt runway located at the city of Wall. Since our hunting facilities are limited, we suggest you get your deposit in early. We look forward to hosting you on a hunt you won’t forget.

License Information and Hunting Season

In this part of South Dakota, the rifle season usually opens the second Saturday in November. Archery opens the end of September and runs through the end of December. Hunts with Dakota Safaris are for 4-5 days. Contact us ASAP to secure your hunt and to get the details of dates, costs and procedures for licensing. NOW is the time to start planning. We will be happy to send you the applications. The best chance to get a license is to apply for the “special buck”.

We send license applications to all clients who have a confirmed booking with Dakota Safaris. All big game rifle licenses in South Dakota are selected by a lottery system. The first application period begins in April. An unlimited number of archery tags are sold. Additional licensing information can be found by going to http://www.state.sd.us/gfp/ .

Crooked Creek Outfitters offers firearm and archery mule deer hunting in Harding County, South Dakota, located in the northwest part of the state. All of our South Dakota guided mule deer hunts are either 2-on-1 or 1-on-1. Our rates include lodging, meals, in the field transportation, field dressing of game, transportation of game to processor and all applicable state and local taxes. Transportation from Rapid City Regional Airport can be arranged.

We will spot and stalk for rifle and archery hunting. We will hunt a lot of badlands, draws, agricultural fields, sagebrush flats and river bottoms. Rifle season traditionally starts the second Saturday of November and goes for 16 days. A typical Mule deer is going to score between 155 BC and 185 BC, with the potential for larger. Continuing in their quest for excellence, Daybreak Ranch has teamed up with Gordon Sampson to offer guided archery whitetail hunts with the possibility of future gun hunts. 2,500 acres of Daybreak Ranch's 8,000 acres are devoted exclusively to whitetail deer archery hunting. All photos were taken at Daybreak Ranch, Hyde County, South Dakota. Gordon has spent the past 30 years guiding archery hunts in Montana as Mossy Horn Outfitters and this new partnership along with his return to his South Dakota roots has given him the opportunity to keep pursuing his love of whitetails.

Most of our whitetail deer hunting is done on the Rosebud Indian Reservation in Gregory and Tripp counties. Rifle season starts about the 10th of November and runs for 16 days - right during the peak of rut. The size of the deer usually runs from 120 to 140 inches, with a few larger ones taken each year. We hunt a lot of canyons and some shots can be pretty long. Don't be afraid to practice and be prepared for shots of 250 to 400 yards.

Pick your dates! Finish your hunt prior to October 17th and hunt seven days with exclusive access to the entire ranch, or hunt five days between October 18th - 31st and your group will have exclusive access to select areas of the ranch. The cost of this hunt is $1500/person (four hunters) or $1750/person (less than four hunters). This hunt includes meals** and lodging.

Long known for some of the most premier and exclusive deer hunting anywhere, Firesteel Creek Lodge and the Lindskov Ranch have continued to not only meet, but exceed hunters expectations. It may be because of the extreme management that we continue to be booked for more than two years out, year after year.

You can hunt from our blinds and tree stands or bring your own. It will not be uncommon to see large- bodied trophy 4, 5, and 6 point bucks on the ranch. This is a fully guided hunt. You will be taken into the blind area to hunt. Your deer will be transported out to the hunt vehicle if you are successful (depending on your marksmanship) because you will see deer.

I offer rifle and archery hunts during the rut! In my area of South Dakota, my clients get the oportunity to hunt whitetails and mule deer during the rut with rifles and archery equipment. This is a great advantage over other outfitters.

Big game hunts (elk,deer,antelope,bison) are available with a limited number of guaranteed tags. Spring turkey hunts can include up to five tags per hunt. Also available are pheasant hunts,grouse hunts,coyote hunts, and prairie dog shoots.

The only thing bigger than a SD white tail is the smile on your face after harvesting a giant Pope and Young deer. These whitetails are big, like Donald Trump's ego these deer are sure to be huuge! These whitetail bucks can easily push the scales over 200 lbs and boast racks that fit the description as well. NTA is a trophy white tail buck destination. We ask hunters take only old mature deer, 4 years of age or older. We only take deer by bow, so we are able to regulate the deer to full maturity and not push them off the properties we hunt. Wish to bring home additional protein? We offer archery hunts for whitetail does as well. These big beauties are sure to fill your freezer space as well.

All hunting is done on 20,000 Private Acres from BIG DOG Tree Stands and Double Bull Ground Blinds with over 89 different specific locations for the 2008 season. We hunt the edges of bedding areas, corn fields, funnels between bedding and feeding, waterholes, and much more.

Your hunt will take place on a mixture of crop land, wide-open grass lands, and creek bottoms. Our deer herd is in excellent condition. Eastern South Dakota has experienced very mild winters for the past five years which has resulted in excellent fawning and overall health of the herd. Like most managed herds, our herd has a slightly above average age structure. The South Dakota subspecies of Whitetails is the second largest subspecies in weight second only to the Canadian subspecies.

Wild ring neck pheasants hunting, walleye fishing on the missouri river, prairie dog hunting, archery deer, water fowl hunting spring or fall, James River fishing, perch on lake dudly or any combination of these wonderful outdoor activities are possible.

Prairie Highlands Outfitters main goal is to provide you with the best hunting experience possible. Our 3200 sq. ft. log lodge sleeps 10 and includes a wet bar, pool table and lounge. We also offer two log cabins with full kitchens and bathrooms for a more private stay. There is a natural hot spring just feet from the main lodge. Rocky Ridge offers rifle deer hunts. Licenses must be obtained prior to arrival at Rocky Ridge. Rifle licenses are awarded on a lottery basis, therefore, applications must be submitted months in advance. Early booking is essential, as we take only a limited number of rifle hunters.

Rooster Tales has the unique opportunity of obtaining licenses for Whitetail Deer and Merriam Turkey hunts. How do we do this? We have an abundance of tribal land that borders our property and will be working with the Rosebud Sioux Tribe to offer licenses.

Our family has been providing top quality hunting since 1997. We have some of the finest hunting ground around. For hunts we provide: pheasant, deer, and even prairie dog hunting. We send a hunting guide and dogs with you on every hunt. You are also welcome to bring your own dogs with you. Hunter can expect mature animals with mule deer scoring 150 inches, whitetail 130 inches, antelope 65, and buffalo 115 inches. These are average scores for both rifle and archery hunts. Local taxidermy and processing are available at your cost. We can also cape your trophy out and cut the meat off for you to put in coolers for you to take home.

Crooked Creek Outfitters offers firearm and archery deer hunting in Harding County, South Dakota, located in the northwest part of the state.

This land has an abundant habitat for mule deer hunting, whitetail hunting and antelope hunting.

All of our South Dakota guided mule deer hunts are 1-on-1.

Included: lodging, guide, in the field transportation, field dressing of game, transportation of game to processor, all applicable state and local taxes. Airport transportation can be arranged.

Not included:  meals not included (we have a small grocery store and a full kitchen, along with 2 restaurants with bars), personal gear, license, any processing or taxidermy fees, weapon, ammunition, or gratuity.

Rates for South Dakota Guided Deer Hunts:

For firearm licenses we request a 10% deposit at the time you receive your license. For archery hunts, being that the license is a guaranteed draw, we request a 10% deposit in January of the calendar year for which you book your hunt. Money orders, cash, cashiers checks are accepted and personal checks can be used for deposits. Your remaining balance payable by cash or bank check upon arrival in camp.

We have been doing prairie dog hunting in Wyoming and South Dakota with great success since 1990, that's 25 years. You just bring your long distance weapons and ammo, and we provide the rest in the Dupree Area (3 hour drive) or a large ranch in Wyoming (working on getting this going again). We shoot from under a full canopy when possible. We have the best glass ware and full shooting benches, including rests and bags. We provide gun cleaning, gun racks, and a hot meal at lunch time. Our self guided prairie dog hunts are on 2,000 acres of private property and you will be the only shooters there. You have the option to hunt on property and off property. A typical day includes a continental breakfast, a chance to sight in your rifles if needed, then off to the prairie dog towns. Your South Dakota Hunting Getaway

Dakota Wild Wings owns Dakota Wild Wings Lodge, Back 40 Lodge, and over 4700 acres of the finest pheasant hunting ground in North America. We manage this prime South Dakota prairie land to promote a large, natural pheasant hatch, ideal habitat conditions, and superb wild bird retention. 

Your hunt will be guided and our seasoned gun dogs are included. Your well-trained dogs are always welcome. Hunting group sizes normally range from six to twenty hunters. The season of the year, weather, and preference of the hunters are all considered when we determine a particular group size.
