Dubai Nol Card: Everything Tourists Need to Know Paying for Dubai’s Public Transport & More!

New to dubai and looking to navigate the nol card system for public transport.

You’ve come to the right place, as we will talk you through everything you need to know about this contactless smart card so you can hit the ground running when you reach Dubai.

If you intend to use public transport in Dubai, you will need a Nol card . Nol in Arabic means fare.

Nol or a Nol card is a rechargeable chip card. You need a Nol to travel on Dubai’s RTA (Roads and Transport Authority) Metro, buses, taxis and trams. Your Nol is not only for Dubai Metro tickets, it can also be used for many other services in Dubai, including public park entry, parking meters, museums, and even paying for groceries at convenience stores!

There are several Nol card choices, though, which we know can confuse newcomers. We will talk you through all your Nol card options, zones for ticket prices, and what you should expect to pay, which is essential for getting around in Dubai .

What Types of Nol Card are there?

Which nol card suits my needs best, nol fares compares by nol card, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual passes with nol card, how to use the dubai nol card, more frequently asked dubai nol card questions, more on dubai public transport.

There are several different types of Nol cards. Dubai Nol cards come in:

  • Red Nol ticket

Silver Nol Card

  • Gold Nol Card
  • Blue Nol Card

Who needs a Nol Card?

All passengers aged five years and over need a Nol to use public transportation in Dubai.

The only exemption for paying fares in Dubai is “People of Determination”- the name given locally to people with disabilities who can use public transport for free. They must, however, apply for a personal nol card – more below!

How much is a Nol card in Dubai?

The price of the physical card and ticket depends on the colour of the card you buy.

A Silver Nol, for example, costs AED 25 ($6.80), of which AED 6 is for the card, and AED 19 is a credit on your card, whereas a Red Nol only costs AED 2 but has no pre-loaded credit – more below !

How much does each Metro trip in Dubai cost?

The tariff you pay per trip on Dubai public transportation depends on which card type you use, and the zones travelled.

Dubai Metro Zones

Dubai is divided into seven zones. The number of zones you travel on a single journey will determine the rate that will be taken from your Nol Card. These zones apply to travel by Metro & Dubai Tram . To keep it easy, there are only three rates.

  • Tier 1 / 1 Zone : travel within 1 zone or less than 3 km, crossing two zones
  • Tier 2 / 2 Zones : starts in one zone and ends in a neighbouring zone
  • Tier 3 / 3+ Zone s: crosses three or more zones

The amount you pay per journey is automatically calculated when you tap in and out at stations/stops.

How can I get a Nol card in Dubai?

There are several different ways you can purchase your Nol card.

  • You can purchase from ticket offices in all Dubai Metro stations and some Dubai Bus stations using a debit or credit card, or cash.
  • Dubai’s Nol Silver Cards and Nol Red Tickets can be purchased from some Ticket Vending Machines.
  • You can also purchase Nol Silver Cards in Dubai from RTA Customer Service Centres and RTA-authorised sales agents.
  • Nol blue cards can be purchased online only.
  • NEW – buy your Nol card online using the Nol Pay Application.

So, with the option of four different Nol cards (Dubai Metro cards, which can be used for multiple forms of transport, including Dubai bus and tram), which type of card is best for tourists?

Most tourists will opt for Red or Silver Nol cards – here’s what you need to know about each.

Nol Red Ticket

The Nol Red Ticket is a paper-based ticket (card) that can be purchased from ticket machines for only AED 2. It is an anonymous card (i.e., it doesn’t need registering) and is best for occasional users of the Dubai Metro, including tourists.

You must then load credit onto your Red Nol Ticket (Red Nol Card). It can be loaded with up to 10 Single Trips or 5-day passes.

Nol Red Ticket key features

  • Low ticket price – only AED 2 upfront ($0.54 USD)
  • The minimum balance to recharge is AED 7.50
  • Valid for 90 days
  • Can be bought from any ticket vending machine at any time
  • Allows you to pay for the exact trip only

Example costs with a Red Nol Ticket

You will need to load these amounts onto your Nol Red card before using the Metro

  • 1-day regular pass AED 20 (for use on one type of transport only)
  • 1 day pass gold pass AED 40
  • 1 zone AED 4
  • 2 zones AED 6
  • 3+ zones AED 8.50

The Nol Silver Card is the perfect Nol starter card for regular use with an e-purse that can be loaded with up to AED 1000.

The Silver Nol Card costs AED 25 upfront, which includes AED 19 e-purse value, and the ticket holder is anonymous, i.e. you don’t need to register your card.

Silver Nol Card key features:

  • Automatically calculates the cost of your trip and deducts it from your e-purse
  • Valid on all modes of transport
  • Maximum journey duration 180 minutes
  • The minimum balance is AED 7.50
  • Valid for five years

Example fares for the Silver Nol Card

Although the Silver Nol is AED 4 more upfront than the Red Nol Ticket, you get cheaper fares on the Silver card. You can only travel in regular class:

  • 1 zone AED 3
  • 2 zones AED 5
  • 3+ zones AED 7.50

Generally speaking, the Silver Nol will be your best option as a tourist if you are in Dubai for several days and intend to catch public transportation on several occasions.

Nol Gold Card

The Nol Gold Card allows the holder to travel in luxury and comfort in the Gold Class Cabin of the Metro. It is also an anonymous Nol card with the same features as the Silver Card, but with the added benefit of giving you privileged access to the Dubai Metro’s Gold Class seats for a premium fare.

The Gold Nol Card costs AED 25 upfront, which includes AED 19 e-purse value.

Gold Nol Card key features:

  • Access to Gold Class cabins on the Metro & Tram
  • Valid on all modes of transport (premium seating only on Metro & Tram)
  • Valid for 5 years

Example fares on a Gold Nol Card

  • 1 zone AED 6
  • 2 zones AED 10
  • 3+ zones AED 15

If you prefer a bit of comfort and space on your journey then the Gold Nol could be your best choice, though note it does not guarantee you a seat if the Metro is busy.

Nol Blue Card (Personal Nol cards)

The Nol Blue Card is a secure, personalized smart card that is best for daily commuters. You can use the Blue Nol card on all types of public transport that are part of the Nol Card scheme.

The major difference between Blue and Silver is that Blue Nol cardholders can enjoy a secure card balance if their card gets lost or stolen.

The Blue Nol Card costs AED 70 upfront, which includes AED 20 e-purse value. You can load your registered Blue Nol Card with up to AED 5000 in value.

Blue Nol Card key features

  • Secure card balance if your card gets lost/stolen
  • Personalized with a photo
  • Variety of secure online services, as well as SMS & email notifications to keep you posted
  • Students, Senior Citizens, or social welfare holders pay 50% of the regular fare

The Metro fares are the same as you’d pay for a gold or silver card but with the added benefit of securing your balance. You can top up larger sums immediately without fearing losing your balance.

You can apply for personal Nol cards online or through the Nol Pay application.

Water Bus Fares

The Water Bus in Dubai Marina charges a flat AED 2 per journey.

In addition to the single-use fares above, frequent travellers on the Dubai Metro or other RTA services can pay upfront for the following fares (Students, Senior Citizens and Concession holders pay 50%):

NB Anonymous Silver/Gold Cards can only apply for a 7-day pass; For anything longer, you need to register your travel pass product

  • 3+ Zones AED 110

So, now you’ve sorted out what type of Dubai metro card you need, how does it actually work?

  • Make sure you have at least AED 15 on your Nol card before you use it
  • Place your Nol card on the card reader to “check-in”
  • Wait for the beep or green light to know you’re successful and pass through the gate/entrance
  • At the end of your journey, place your card on the e-reader and wait for the beep or green light, then pass through the gate
You can now use the Nol Pay application too ( Apple | Google Play ) as a virtual card. If you have uploaded your Nol card information you can make a single tap with your phone in place of a physical card or ticket (Presently only only on certain models of Huawei and Samsung devices, iPhone is coming!).

Topping Up Your Nol Card

nol pay application logo

When the balance is running low on your Dubai travel card, there are now several ways you can top up:

  • At any RTA ticket machine or ticket counter (Note that the minimum top-up now at a ticket office is AED 20)
  • Download the Nol Pay Application and top up with your debit or credit card
  • Online through the RTA website
If you’ll be using Apps and otherline services during your time in Dubai, make sure you have a Dubai Sim card and enough data!

There are many upgrades expected to come to the Nol Pay system in 2024-25 and beyond. These changes will include family-group tickets, facial recognition, and stronger electronic security. We’ll update this information here as announcements come out.

This depends on what type of Nol card (Dubai Metro ticket/Dubai bus ticket) you want to purchase. There are different price categories for one-off/infrequent users (Red Nol), regular users (Silver Nol), and those who want to travel in a premium cabin (Gold Nol). You can also get a registered ‘Blue Nol’ – though you’ll pay the same fare on a Blue Nol as Silver or Gold, depending on what fare type you top your card up with.

You can purchase your Nol for the first time from any Metro station kiosk or vending machine, as well as many bus stops and tram stations. If you are arriving in Dubai from DXB, there are plentiful ticket vending machines at the Metro station, and staff are on hand to help.

You can top up your Nol card at Nol recharge stations found all over the city, as well as online via the RTA website or with s’hail app .

Dubai Metro Fares are calculated not only on zones but also on the type of ticket you are using. Use the price guidelines above and keep a minimum balance of AED 7.50 on your card (NB, that AED 7.50 can be used on your last journey)

Whilst a Nol card can be used to pay for taxis in Dubai , taxis still accept cash and card payments other than Nol. If taxis are the only transport you will use in Dubai, there’s no need to go out of your way to get a Nol card unless you’d like one for paying for park entry, shops and other handy features.

Blue Nol card is the only card that allows you to apply for a refund. It is wise to use any of the other electronic cards to top up only to the amount you think you’ll need to use.

You don’t have to be a resident to benefit from the registered Blue Nol card. If you are a frequent Dubai visitor or think you’ll be heavily using the card during your trip to Dubai, then it would make sense to go to the extra effort of having a Blue Nol card registered, though be mindful you’d need an address to collect it from.

You can use your Red Nol Ticket to pay as you go for use on regular or Gold; just make sure you top up the right amount and bear in mind Gold tickets cost more on a Red Nol Ticket than if you outright buy a Gold Nol Card.

You can use your Red, Silver, or Gold Nol card for the women’s and children’s cabins on the Metro; it is the same price as other regular pass cabins, just designated for families only. It is clearly marked with pink lines at one end of the train (front or rear, depending on which way the train is going). The only cabin that needs a different fare is Gold.

There are now over 2000 outlets in Dubai that allow tap and pay with Nol card; you can find them listed here. You can also use your Nol at Public parks that have a small entry fee.

Yes, there’s no separate type of transport ticket in Dubai for buses, all bus cards in Dubai are Nol cards.

Previously, the Palm Monorail operated completely separate from the RTA system. Recently, the relevant authorities in Dubai changed this so that Nol cards could be used to pay the separate fare for the privately-operated Monorail – learn more about the Palm monorail here .

In the future, yes, the NOL system in Dubai should seamlessly operate with the new Etihad Rail network across the UAE. Watch this space as changes to how we travel across the country are coming soon!

You can use the Nol card to pay your fare on the Intercity buses that run from Dubai to Abu Dhabi ). You cannot, however, use your Nol on Abu Dhabi’s public transport system, you would need a Hafialt Smart Card – learn more here .

The best place to start is the RTA website , or telephone queries (within the UAE) to 800 90 90

We hope this Nol Card/Dubai metro pass guide will help you navigate your way across Dubai. It is a big, sprawling city, but using the Metro can really help tourists get between the key attractions, and compared to other worldwide public transport systems, it is relatively low-cost, clean, and easy to use.

Fares and information in this guide are correct as of our last review in early 2024. Please confirm pricing directly with the RTA before purchasing.

Greetings, please I wish to enquire if a tourist on a tourist Visa are obligated to pay fines levied on nol bus card upon exiting the UAE, thanks

' src=

I’m afraid we don’t know the exact answer to this. If you were fined in person and they took any form of ID from you then you could run into serious trouble when leaving the country, no matter how small the amount they take unpaid debts very seriously here in the UAE.

' src=

Hi I wish to inquire that if a person travels in bus without nol bus card and also have only visit visa then I want to know that is there any fine if it is then how can he pay without any slip

We do not known the exact consequences, but given traveling on public transport without a valid ticket is against the law anywhere in the world, why would you do it? Even a tourist can be fined for breaking the law. If you have an outstanding fine on leaving the UAE you will be held by border police until payment is made – we understand cash and credit card payment are accepted. If you cannot pay, a travel ban can be applied. Simply put, don’t break any laws in Dubai as consequences can be severe.

Hi, Is a Silver nol cart for personal use or can pay with it for two or more people at the same trip?

Hi Peter, each passenger over 5 years old needs their own Nol card to go through the gates at Metro stations, unfortunately there’s no card sharing.

' src=

If you need to keep 7.50 on your NOL card does that mean you have to have 7.50 unused on it at the end of your Dubai trip or can you use the 7.50 on your last public transport trip?

Our understanding is you need this when you start your last journey, so you do not exceed the maximum fare for that trip.

Is it possible to travel on public transport in Dubai using a Credit Card?

At present, the system is only set up for payment with a physical Nol card or Nol card on your phone, not credit cards.

Dubai Metro Tickets and Fares

The Dubai Metro system is one of the most popular ways to travel in Dubai. Not only is it affordable, but it’s also a quick and easy way to get around the city.

We will provide you with all the information you need to know about Dubai Metro tickets and fares. We’ll cover everything from single journey fares to passes, so you can choose the option that best suits your needs.

Modes of public transport in Dubai include the  Dubai Metro ,  Dubai Tram , bus, and water bus.

Journeys can be made using a combination of different modes of transport and paid for using credits added to a contactless travel card (Nol Card).

Dubai’s transport system is divided into 7  zones . The price paid for a journey depends on the number of zones crossed during the trip. Ticket prices are cheap compared to similar systems in other major cities.

Silver Nol Card - Dubai Metro Ticket and Pass

Children aged up to 5 years travel free. Concessionary fares for students and senior citizens are only available to residents.

Passengers pay with Nol Cards; contactless smart cards. Different types of cards are available to meet individual passenger needs. Cards must be purchased before travel.

  • Silver Nol Cards – Suitable for residents and tourists.
  • Gold Nol Cards – Suitable for residents and tourists wishing to travel in Gold Class (first class carriages).
  • Personal Nol Cards – Personalised card with photo. Concessionary fares are available for students, seniors, and the disabled.
  • Red Tickets (paper) – Ideal for occasional users. Can be loaded with up to 10 trips or 5 daily passes.

Passengers cannot use cash as a direct payment method on the Dubai Metro, buses, or water buses. Credit cards and other payment forms are also not accepted as direct payments. Cash and credit cards can be used to buy the Nol cards, top them up, and add passes.

Gold Class carriages are for those that wish to travel first class. Every Dubai Metro train has one Gold Class carriage. They have bigger and more comfortable seats with more legroom. Gold Class carriages are typically less crowded than Standard Class carriages.

Nol Cards can be purchased at many locations in Dubai, including ticket offices at Dubai Metro stations and Dubai Bus stations. There are ticket offices at all stations on both the Red Line and the Green Line .

Nol Cards can be used on different forms of transport (Metro, buses, water buses).

Passengers are only charged once, dependent on the length of the journey, provided transfer times between different modes are adhered to (30 minutes maximum permitted).

For example, if your journey involves a trip on the Dubai Metro and a bus, your journey will be counted as a single trip provided you check-in on the bus within 30 minutes of checking out of the Dubai Metro station.

Nol is the Arabic word for ‘fare’.

The fare is charged at the end of the journey and is dependent on the number of zones passed through. The fare is deducted when the card is tapped on one of the card readers located at the exits of Dubai Metro and Dubai Tram stations, buses, or water buses.

The latest AED exchange rates are:

  • Euro – 1 AED = 0.25 euros
  • British pound – 1 AED = 0.22 British pounds
  • US dollars – 1 AED = 0.27 US dollars

Exchange rates were last updated on Monday 6th of May 2024 at 2:22 pm . Exchange rates for other currencies can be found here .

A 50 percent discount is available to resident students and senior citizens holding Personal Nol Cards. Personal Nol Cards are only available to UAE nationals and residents (application procedure and ID required).

Small children (aged 5 and under) travel free (regardless of nationality and residence).

A map showing the zones and all Dubai Metro and Dubai Tram stations can be found  here .

The easiest way to work out the cost of a Metro trip is to use the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority’s (RTA) S’hail app. The app gives the cost of the trip and journey times. It will also give the cost and journey times for other modes of transport (bus, local taxi, Uber, etc.).

Passes are available and can be added/charged to Nol Cards. They allow unlimited travel on the Metro, buses, Dubai Tram, etc. Passes offer cheaper fares for frequent travellers.

Prices for passes are shown in the table below:

As an example, holders of a Silver Card can add a 7-day all-zone pass for 110 AED (£ 23.8 , € 27.76 , $ 29.95 ).

Holders of Silver Cards can add an all-zone monthly pass (30-day) at a cost of 350 AED (£ 75.72 , € 88.34 , $ 95.29 ).

Resident students and seniors enjoy a 50 percent discount on the cost of travel passes.

Anonymous Silver Card and Gold Card users can only add a 7-day pass. To add 30-day (monthly), 90-day, or 1-year passes, users need to register their cards.

Red Ticket holders can add a standard 1 day pass for 20 AED (£ 4.33 , € 5.05 , $ 5.45 ). The cost of a 1-day pass for travel in Gold Class carriages is 40 AED (£ 8.65 , € 10.1 , $ 10.89 ). The 1-day ticket allows holders to travel in all zones by any method of transport. More 1 day passes can be added if and when required.

Best Nol Card for Tourists

Most tourists that plan to get around the city using public transport, will find that the Nol Silver Card suits their needs.

They can add a 7-day pass to the card without having to register the card. Further 7-day passes can be added for longer stays.

Tourists anticipating infrequent use of public transport should purchase a Red Ticket and add funds as required.

Nol Cards – Other Uses – Taxis, Parking, Shopping, etc

Nol Cards were introduced to pay for public transport (Dubai Metro, buses, etc.).

Since being launched their use has expanded. Holders can now use the Nol Card system to pay for a variety of services and goods including:

  • Shopping – Stores accepting Nol Cards include Circle K (convenience store) and Carrefour.
  • Restaurants – Nol Cards can be used to buy food and drink at outlets such as Burger King and Gloria Jean’s Coffees.
  • Parking – The latest parking meters allow drivers to pay for their parking without obtaining a paper ticket. Drivers simply enter their number plate on the touchscreen of the parking meter and pay using a Nol Card (or coins)
  • Public Parks – The small fee to enter public parks can now only be paid by Nol Card. Public parks where entry fees apply include  Zabeel Park ,  Al Mamzar Beach Park ,  Dubai Creek Park , and  Mushrif Park .

Nol Cards only work in Dubai. They are not accepted as a form of payment in Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, or any of the other emirates.

Only until midnight. 🙁

its valid for the following day till midnight 12.00 a.m.

I’m a foreign student coming to Dubai for my educational program which is of 2 years. Which card or pass will be best suitable for me?

The Silver card Or the Gold card if you want to travel in STYLE

Silver nol card is ok for you.

depends on how often you use the public transport within Dubai. If you travel on daily basis then get a (money saver) 3 month pass (if your semester is going to take more then 3 months to finish), or go for monthly passes if you travel more then 20day a month (and if you semester break is less than 3 months far from now)

The Blue nol card standard class

The blue nol card would be best.

Ask the station master. He will advise you.

I suggest you go for the Silver Nol Card.

It depends where you are going and where you are living. You can take Dubai Tram or Dubai Metro.

We are staying in Dubai for 5 nights travelling 2 people. please suggest the best card for transportation in Dubai. thank you 🙂

Don’t be lazy, see list above!

Don’t be lazy. Give a proper answer!!!

Nol is the best card for transportation.

Silver will be better.

If you are staying only for 5 days, I think buying a daily metro ticket would be the best and cheapest.

Thank you for the article. It was very informative.

Just a quick query. I recently got a job in Dubai Investment Park. However, I will be staying quite far away from my work place. Since I would be using the metro & bus regularly, would it be beneficial for me to get a 30 day pass? And on which type of card would it be better? Silver or Blue? Thanks again in advance! Cheers!

Get the Silver card. You can go for Gold card if you want premium seats at the front of the metro. But the fare of the gold card is double that of silver cards.

Do the day passes have to be consecutive? We will be in Dubai before and after a cruise and would like to use the metro before and after.

You can buy a consecutive one.

Can you buy family travel passes in Dubai? How does that cost? If children go free, what is the maximum age? Or is there any discount price for children?

Children below 1 metre can ride for free

5 and under are free. Otherwise you must pay full fare.

The maximum age for free metro in Dubai is 5 years and under.

yes, visit, nol.ae

No you can’t. But when you get out of the airport there is a metro station where you can buy at the counter.

HI There, we going Dubai this month for 5 days with kids and 1 person is 65, we would like to travel my metro, could you please advice which is best line we need to use and the tickets price.

Gold metro daily ticket.

Hello! I will soon visit Dubai for 10 days (9 nights) with my husband. Can you please advise me which card is suitable for us to roam from places to places until night and the total cost for 2 adults.

I am not understanding the difference between daily passes and cards. Are the costs different? Do the cards allow us to use bus or do we need to pay additional fees?

Thanking you in advance Shakeela

Get the silver card. As your stay is long, daily tickets are of no use to you. Silver card gets you 10% discount from the normal fare of daily cards. Yes you can use the cards on bus.

We will be in Dubai for 2 days. We will use the metro from the International Airport. we are arriving at 11 pm. What is the operating hour for the metro What card will i need if i were to travel from airport to Al Ras station and also to Dubai mall the next day. We are a family of 4 so do we need 4 cards?

Going to be in Dubai for 13 hours. Looking to go from the airport to downtown Dubai. Is the red card, with a daily pass, a good bet? Thanks

How do you change metro lines? Do you go out of the metro station?

No, you get out of the train and take another train.

My wife and I, would like to visit Dubai for 7 days. We would like to use all public transportations (tram, metro and buses). What card we should buy and where can we buy it?

Regards and thanks

Me and my husband will be staying in Dubai for 8 days. What pass do we buy?

Hello! We are staying in Dubai for 4 days. Can we buy mutliple red cards and refill it every day? Can we chose to get 1 gold card and fill it for 7 days?

Planning to visit Dubai in June for 11 days. Travelling with my family, 2 daughters aged 10 & 5. Questions: Is there a big difference between Gold and Standard Class? Is there discount for children travelling?

Hi, everyday I used to travel from Emirates Metro Station to UAE Exchange Metro Station back to back. Metro train is my daily transportation to office. Is there anything you can advise me to do to have a discount or to save more? I’m an expat holding residence visa.

Is a day pass good for 24 hours or a calendar day?

Found the silver card very handy and easy to use. Cheaper than individual fares, cost us five for journey which cost non card holder ten. Very similar to using the Dublin Leap card.

I am coming to Dubai for one day only and making the following 4 trips: 1) Airport to Dubai Media City 2) Dubai Media City to Dierah City Center 3) Dierah City Center to Dubai Mall 4) Dubai Mall to Airport

What is the cheapest ticket I can buy. And up to what time the metro operates. Thanks.

In my opinion, it is just easiest to pay for each trip using the Silver Nol card. The red cards and day passes are confusing and not a good deal.

The first time you ride the metro, buy a Silver card from the manned kiosk near the entry turnstyles. It costs only 25AED and comes with 19AED value on the card. When the card has less than 8AED, simply top it up with another 10-15AED at the same manned kiosk, or the top up machines at the station.

Messing around with single trip tickets and day passes are overly complicated to me.

Before leaving Dubai, simply give your card as a gift to a hotel worker or taxi driver that was nice to you. They will appriciate the gesture, I’m sure.

Very helpful, thank you!

Thanks Harry.

Good job Harry

Thanks for this very useful information.

We are going to Dubai for holidays and we need to travel a lot between Dubai and Sharjah. Can the Dubai metro passes be used for buses in Sharjah ? If not, is there any other pass that covers the public transport in both the Emirates ?

Nearest metro from Sharjah is Al Quasis metro station green line. You would then have to switch lines after a few stops to the red line to continue to Damac which is Dubai Marina

Minimum fare from one station to very next station is AED 3 for silver card holders for both red and green lines?

We’re traveling in a group of two people. Can one silver card be used by two people at the same time of do we need to purchase two cards?

It is one card per person. There is no option to swipe twice for two people.

Hi, If I buy red ticket and load it with 7 days passes, would it allow me to have unlimited rides for 7 days or not?

I have limited mobility and can’t do stairs. Is the Metro easily accessible for those with limited mobility?

All Metro stations are equipped with lifts and escalators for access.

Use public transport it’s cheap safe metro can get a bit crowded but that’s part of the fun sometimes

Can I buy cards online?

Nol card is issued by RTA and this cannot be purchased online. Just dont buy red card as it is only valid for 90 days.

Good information and useful

Does one need 2 cards for travel on the red line and green line or 1 card is enough to travel both lines?

You only need one card.

We are two seniors (ages 72 and 74) travelling to Dubai for five days in February. We are looking for a pass that covers trains, trams and buses (including water buses).

NOL Card works on Trains, Trams and Buses. You shall have to check for water buses..

Hi. I’m going to visit Dubai this month for the job hunt. That means I will need to travel a lot. I’m coming for 30 days. Which card will be suitable for me? Thanks in advance.

You can get a Silver card (no ID required) and load it with a 30 day pass. The new fares came out late last year. I presume you will want a pass that covers all zones. This will cost 350 AED.

You don t need that much. 100-150 aed might be well enough, depending on how much you travel. Sometimes 1 to 3 rudes enough cause day ends up pretty fast before you finish visiting one area. Take it easy. If you need more you can top up at the metro station,

30 days pass available for person having Resident Visa Only. On Tourist Visa One month pass not given

We’re in Sharjah and Dubai on holiday for seventeen days. Is there any card which is valid for public transport to visit exciting places like Dubai Mall etc?

Depends how long you are in Dubai for? If you are in Dubai for a week you could buy a Silver card and charge it up with a 7 day pass for all zones for 110 AED (or two 7 day passes). You could also buy a red ticket(s) for 1 day at 20 AED.

That can be used for any form of public transportation.

We at staying in Dubai for 5 days. Is there a ticket that will cover all public transport for the 5 days or do we need to get a ticket for each trip?

You could buy a Red Ticket and load it with 5 daily passes. The Red Ticket costs 2 AED for the ticket itself. A daily pass costs 20 AED. So the total cost would be 102 AED.

The ticket would be valid for the Dubai Metro, Dubai Tram, and buses.

If you want to travel Gold Class on the Dubai Metro and Dubai Tram the daily pass costs 40 AED per day.

Is it loading the Red ticket to 20 aed the only option? Can’t we load a lesser amount like 10 aed, if we are gonna travel only once to n fro.

The Dubai Metro network consists of two main lines that serve the city: the Red Line and the Green Line.

Each covers a broad swath of Dubai’s urban landscape.

The Red Line stretches 52 kilometers from Al Rashidiya, close to Dubai International Airport, to UAE Exchange.

Connecting major spots like Dubai Marina, the Dubai Mall, and Burj Khalifa across its 29 stations.

The Green Line is a bit shorter at 22 kilometers and has 20 stations.

It runs from Etisalat in the northeast to Creek in the southwest, passing through Dubai’s older neighborhoods like Deira and Bur Dubai, giving access to historical sites and residential zones.

Dubai NOL Card: Easy Guide, Prices & Tourist Passes

This comprehensive guide to the Dubai NOL Card is designed to provide you with all the essential information you require concerning tickets and fares for the Dubai public transport system. The Dubai NOL Card serves as a rechargeable electronic ticket that is indispensable for utilizing the Dubai Metro and buses .

Given the array of ticket options and fare variations tailored for both tourists and residents , complete with diverse prices and features, navigating these choices can be daunting, especially for first-time visitors . Therefore, we have created this user-friendly guide to assist you in swiftly determining the most suitable Dubai NOL Card for your needs.

The term “ Nol “ in Arabic translates to “ fare “ , and the NOL Card stands out as a versatile and extensively utilized payment system in Dubai, one that you’ll need to acquaint yourself with as soon as you arrive in the country. A NOL Card is essential for traversing the entire RTA (Roads and Transport Authority) network, encompassing the Dubai Metro , buses and trams . Furthermore, it serves as a means of payment for numerous other services across Dubai, such as parking , public park admissions , museums , and much more!

What you will find in this guide to the Dubai NOL Card:

Dubai NOL Card: An Overview and Key Information

The Dubai NOL Card is essential for navigating the city’s efficient and extensive public transportation network . It’s a contactless smart card that allows seamless access to Dubai’s buses , metros , trams , and water buses . The NOL Card comes in different types, catering to various travel needs, making it a practical option for both tourists and residents .

The Dubai Metro covers major tourist attractions , while buses offer access to less central locations . Trams provide a convenient way to explore the Dubai Marina area , and water buses connect various points along the city’s waterways. This integrated system ensures seamless transfers between different modes, making it a breeze to explore the city without the hassle of purchasing separate tickets for each leg of your journey.

One of the key benefits of the NOL Card is its flexibility . Whether you’re a daily commuter or a tourist looking to explore the city for a few days, there’s a NOL Card option that suits you. Plus, the card can be easily recharged at numerous locations across the city. You can top up your card at any metro or bus station, convenience stores, or online through the RTA website , ensuring that you’re always ready to hop on a train or bus without any interruptions. Navigating Dubai using the NOL Card is not only practical but also cost-effective .

Apart from its transportation benefits, the NOL Card can also be used for parking and even as a payment method at select retail outlets. To get your NOL Card , simply visit one of the conveniently located kiosks , stations, or authorized retailers . Choose the card type that best suits your travel needs, load it with credit , and you’re all set to explore Dubai with ease. The NOL Card simplifies your travel experience by eliminating the need to carry cash or search for ticket counters. Just tap your card at the entry and exit points of stations or vehicles, and you’re good to go.

Why do I need a Dubai NOL Card?

The Dubai NOL Card proves indispensable for navigating the city’s public transport system. Given that cash payments are not accepted and the fare structure is intricate , the optimal strategy to economize and ensure fair pricing for each individual ride is to rely on the NOL Card . This card ensures that you are billed precisely for the distance traveled, from origin to destination .

Spearheaded by the RTA (Road Transport Authority) , the governing body for urban public transportation, Dubai is divided into seven zones , numbered from 1 to 7 . It’s worth noting that certain zones situated in remote desert areas may be of limited relevance to most travelers .

Public transport journeys fall into three distinct categories : travel within the same zone , travel between two adjacent zones , and travel spanning two non-adjacent zones . The pricing structure hinges on these distinctions. Furthermore, selecting a single journey ticket will incur a higher fare compared to using the NOL Card . And if you want to buy a tourist pass with unlimited rides for one or more days, the NOL Card stands as the exclusive option .

Dubai Metro Card Ticket Dubai Nol Card

Which Dubai NOL Card to Choose?

There are four distinct types of Dubai NOL Cards available:

  • Dubai NOL Card Red
  • Dubai NOL Card Silver
  • Dubai NOL Card Gold
  • Dubai NOL Card Personal (formerly known as Blue NOL Card )

Among these, the most suitable options for tourists are the Red and Silver Dubai NOL Cards . The Red Dubai NOL Card , officially referred to as the Red Ticket , functions as a single ticket for travelers. While primarily intended for tourists, it can be recharged and utilized as a NOL Card, albeit with certain limitations. It is valid for metro and bus travel, allowing up to 10 journeys to be recharged. However, it’s important to note that the fare for a single journey is slightly higher compared to the Dubai NOL Card Silver .

The Silver Dubai NOL Card is priced at AED 25 ($7) for purchase, which includes AED 19 ($5) worth of travel credit. This card can be recharged multiple times within its 5-year validity period. It is accepted across all modes of public transportation and can be conveniently recharged at underground station ticket offices or RTA kiosks situated throughout the city. These kiosks are user-friendly and offer clear instructions in English.

The remaining two cards cater primarily to locals. The Dubai NOL Card Gold grants access to the Gold Class on the Metro and Dubai Tram services. Notably, both the Dubai Metro and trams feature a first-class section, which is especially designated for women and children, resulting in reduced congestion. To avail this first-class service, the Dubai NOL Card Gold is necessary, with each trip in this class costing approximately twice the standard fare. However, it’s worth mentioning that Dubai’s metro and trams are typically less crowded and generally safe for all passengers.

Finally, the Dubai NOL Card Personal (formerly known as Blue NOL Card ) is designed for residents. This personalized card includes a photo and is exclusively issued at select metro offices. It provides concessions for seniors and disabled individuals and also offers a credit refund option in case of loss or theft. However, it’s important to highlight that this card is solely intended for UAE residents.

How to Get a NOL Card in Dubai

Acquiring a Dubai NOL Card is a straightforward process with multiple options available to suit your convenience. Here are the various methods through which you can obtain your NOL Card:

  • Ticket Offices: You can conveniently purchase your NOL Card from ticket offices located within all Dubai Metro stations and select Dubai Bus stations. This allows you to acquire your card directly from these accessible locations. NOL Silver cards can also be obtained from RTA Customer Service Centres and RTA authorized sales agents across Dubai.
  • Ticket Vending Machines: Dubai’s NOL Card Silver and Red Tickets are also available for purchase through designated Ticket Vending Machines. These user-friendly machines offer a convenient way to acquire your card or ticket.

Dubai NOL Card Fare Zones

Understanding Dubai’s fare zones might seem complex, but there’s a simple way to grasp the concept quickly and recognize the limited utility of the 1-zone ticket in most cases. Let me provide you with practical examples, focusing on the three key areas that are most relevant for tourists :

  • ZONE 5 : This zone encompasses the Deira area and includes the vicinity of Dubai International Airport (DBX) .
  • ZONE 6 : Extending from Dubai Creek to the north and the Dubai Cana l to the south, Zone 6 covers the Downtown Dubai area. Notable landmarks within this zone include the Burj Khalifa , the Dubai Mall , and the Port Rashid cruise port.
  • ZONE 2 : Encompassing a vast region that stretches along Jumeirah Beach , Zone 2 features the iconic Palm Jumeirah , the vibrant Dubai Marina district, and the renowned Burj Al Arab .

It’s evident that merely traversing through some of the city’s most popular and must-see locations necessitates crossing a minimum of three fare zones. You can find a map of the NOL Fare zones and fare information on the RTA official website.

The Dubai Metro is operated by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and is part of the city’s public transport network, which includes water taxis and buses.  The RTA offers a public transport package that allows you to use all its transport options within the day. The RTA package is called “ One Day in Dubai ”.

3. The Dubai Metro has 2 train lines .

The Red Line spans 52.1 kilometers and starts from Dubai International Airport area all the way to the Jebel Ali neighborhood. This is the line to take if you want to go to spectacular Dubai Marina.

There are different types of Nol Cards. The most basic one is the Red one, which costs 2 Dirham. You can top this card for up to 10 journeys using one of the kiosks in the metro stations.

Another type of card you can use for the Dubai Metro is a “Day Pass”. A Day Pass allows you to go on unlimited journeys in all 5 zones within a day (12 hours).

Dubai Metro Information

Information about the Dubai Metro

A Nol card is essential for travel on the Dubai Metro as no other forms of payment are taken for travel (no cash or credit cards).

There are 4 colours of nol cards that you can buy which will enable you to travel on the Dubai Metro. The Nol card is also valid for other forms of Dubai public transport: buses, tram, water taxis etc.

You can also use your Nol card to pay for parking at the RTA public car parks and parking zones. The Nol card automatically calculates the correct fare value when you check in and check out correctly.

In particular you must remember to check in an out when you travel on the buses and trams. If you don’t then you will be charged the highest fare possible for your journey (maximum number of zones).

The Nol cards can be bought at any of the Dubai Metro stations, tram stations or bus stations and are as follows:

Red Nol Card

Well rather than being a card this is more of a paper ticket. It is valid for 90 days and costs 2 dirhams to buy and you can load it up with the cost of 10 individual trips. This nol card can now be used on all 3 means of public transport – Metro, Tram and Bus. You can also add a one day ticket to the red Nol card.

silver nol card

Silver Nol Card

This is the best card if you intend to use the Dubai Metro or other forms of public transport on an intermittent or even regular basis, or if you need to pay for parking regularly.

The Nol silver card costs 25 dirhams to buy but that includes 19 dirhams in credits. It is valid for a period of 5 years and can be topped up to a maximum value of 500 dirhams. You can get the silver Nol card from all the Dubai Metro stations and bus stations plus it is also available in some supermarkets in Dubai.

The Silver Nol card is therefore the most useful card that you can buy, in particular if you are visiting or do not have a Blue Nol card. The cost of the card itself is 6 dirhams so it is slightly more expensive than the Red card but if you make more journeys you will soon save this money on the cost of the trips.

If you register your Silver Nol card it can also be used to buy longer season tickets.

Gold Nol Card

A Nol gold card can be used on all forms of transport. You will be charged normal rates on Dubai buses, but for the Dubai Metro and the Tram you will pay the gold class fare. This means that you will be able to travel in the Gold Class carriage.

In all other ways it acts the same as the silver Nol card. The Gold Class carriage gives a higher level of luxury and comfort than the other classes. The Gold Nol card also costs 25 dirhams with a value credited to it of 19 dirhams.

If you register your Gold Nol card it can also be used to buy longer season tickets.

Blue Nol Card

The blue Nol card is a personalised card that carries the extra benefit of security if your card is lost or stolen. You can also top up your Nol card online.

It is particularly useful for disabled, student or senior citizen travel as then you can be charged the correct reduced fare. The blue Nol card costs 70 dirham which includes a 20 dirham fare credit and is also valid for 5 years. If you are registered disabled with a Blue Nol card then all travel is free.

With a blue Nol card you can also purchase season tickets longer than a week.

Nol Card Dubai: Guide to Visitors and Tourists

Nol Card Dubai Guide Visitors Tourists

Are you a first-time tourist or visitor in Dubai? If so, then you are probably thinking about how to get around the city using public transportation . You should also consider getting a Nol card , which you can use to pay for transport fare.

Basically, the Nol card is a smart card used by commuters on the Dubai Metro, public buses, Dubai Tram, water buses, and taxis. With just a single tap of your Nol card, you can travel across the city’s “zones,” and even across different transport modes! Keep on reading to learn more about the features and costs of Nol cards in Dubai.

What is a Nol Card?

In Arabic, the term “nol” means fare. As mentioned earlier, the Nol card is a smart card that can be used when using public transportation in Dubai. Specifically, you can use it on the Dubai Metro, Dubai Tram, buses, and water buses — all of which are managed by the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

Aside from public transportation, the Nol card can also be used to pay for RTA’s paid parking, entry to public parks, museums, and even as payment for food and groceries! In this article, though, we will focus on how to use this card on the Dubai Metro.

All passengers who are 5 years old and above need a Nol card to use public transportation in Dubai. Notably, children below 5 years old, as well as “ people of determination ” can use public transportation, free of charge.

You can purchase a Nol card from any of these locations:

  • Ticket offices in Dubai Metro stations and select bus stations;
  • Ticket Vending Machines (for Nol red cards and silver cards); and
  • RTA Customer Service Centres and RTA-authorised sales agents (silver cards).

The Nol card comes in different colours, each with different features and of course, prices. For instance, the red card costs 2 AED, but you need to “load” it with credit before you can use it. Meanwhile, the silver card costs 25 AED, inclusive of 19 AED as credit, which you can use as transport fare. Keep on reading to know more!

Before discussing the different types of Nol cards further, we need to talk about Dubai’s transportation network first. Dubai has 7 zones, each of which contains Metro stations, tram stations, bus stations, and water bus stations.

Nol Card Dubai Guide Visitors Tourists

The transportation cost will depend on the zone(s) you plan to travel on, as well as the type of Nol card that you have. Depending on your destination, you may be planning to travel within just one zone, two zones, and three (or more) zones. You may also need to use just one transport mode ( e.g. Metro), or two ( e.g. Metro and water bus) modes of transportation in a single journey. All of these would be factored in the computation of your transport fare.

To make it simpler, please take note of these different “tiers:”

  • Tier 1 (one zone) – travel within one zone, or less than 3 km when crossing two zones;
  • Tier 2 (two zones) – departs from one zone and arrives in a neighboring zone; and
  • Tier 3 (three or more zones) – departs from one zone and crosses three (or more) zones.

As you may have guessed, the cost of your fare will be charged based on the tiers or total number of zones that you have crossed. Moreover, when you change transport modes ( e.g. transfer from Dubai Metro to public bus) within 30 minutes, your train and bus trips will be considered as a “single journey,” to be paid for using your Nol card.

What are the Different Types of Nol Cards?

And now, let’s proceed to talk about the different types of Nol cards, which come in four colours:

This is a paper-based card that you can buy from any Ticket Vending Machine. Before using it, you need to load credit first. The red card may be loaded with up to 10 single trips or five day passes.

The red card costs only 2 AED each, although you need to load at least 7.50 AED before using it. If you are a tourist, visitor, or someone who uses Dubai’s public transport occasionally only, this type of card definitely comes in handy!

Using a red card, your transport fare would cost 4 AED (one zone), 6 AED (two zones), or 8.50 AED (three or more zones). You can also opt to buy a one-day pass, which costs 20 AED (regular pass) or 40 AED (gold pass).

If you plan to use public transportation regularly, then the silver card could be just what you need! It costs 25 AED, including 19 AED as credit, which you can use when paying for public transport. This type of card has a validity of five years.

With a silver card, your transport fare would cost 3 AED (one zone), 5 AED (two zones), or 7.50 AED (three or more zones). Notice that this card may cost more than the red card, but the transport fares are slightly cheaper, which is good especially if you are going to travel regularly. Please note that the silver Nol card can be used for regular class seats only.

Basically, this card has the same features as the silver card. It costs 25 AED, with 19 AED credit, and has a validity of five years. However, the main difference is that unlike the silver card, which can only be used for regular class seats… you can use the gold card for Gold Class seats on the Dubai Metro… for a premium fare, of course!

Using a gold card, your transport fare would cost 6 AED (one zone), 10 AED (two zones), or 15 AED (three or more zones).

If you’re a daily commuter on the Dubai Metro (and other public transport modes), then consider getting a blue card, which can be personalised! Another great feature is that if your blue card gets lost or stolen, your credit balance would be secure.

The blue card costs 70 AED, including 20 AED credit. It can be personalised with your photo, and comes with services such as text and email notifications, so you can easily update your balance. This card has a validity of five years. What’s more, if you are a student or senior citizen, you need to pay only 50 percent of the fare.

With a blue card, your transport fare would cost 3 AED (one zone), 5 AED (two zones), or 7.50 AED (three or more zones).

Public Transport: Metro Dubai

Our metro is a world-class, fully-automated, driverless railway system. Most of the metro rides above ground providing a great view while you travel to landmarks like like the Dubai Mall, Dubai Marina, the Gold Souk and Dubai’s financial district (DIFC).

Dubai Metro tickets must be purchased in the form of a Nol card – which can also be used to pay for bus, tram and taxi fare – and rides can cost as little as AED3. Discover the city by its metro stations or use the journey planner app, Wojhati, to make the most of your Dubai itinerary.

As you may know, Dubai metro train is driverless and includes Gold class (Which you use Nol Gold Card for) and a special section for women & children.

As of today, RTA Dubai metro has two lines, though passengers can transfer between the lines at one of two mutual metro stations: Union and Burjuman (Khalid Bin Al Waleed formerly)

Red line Dubai metro starts from Rashidiya and ends at UAE Exchange station (Jebel Ali formerly).

Green line:

The green line starts from Etisalat and ends at Dubai Healthcare City.

As mentioned before, both lines cross roads twice, once in Union Metro Station (At Al Rigga area) and once at Burjuman metro station (Khalid Bin Al Waleed street).

To save you the time of searching in RTA website for Dubai public transport map, we’ve made the map for you again here in high resolution and up-to-date 🙂

Public Transport: Bus Dubai

As we mentioned before you can use your Nol card using all public transport media in Dubai, that includes Dubai bus.

If you want to plan your trip by Dubai bus you can use the official RTA website Wojhati , and if you find it a bit difficult to get the route of a specific bus you may visit our Dubai Bus Routes list 2019-2020  post that we listed all Dubai buses in it including each and every station they have, which you won’t see on the internet 😉

Now travel on Dubai Metro, buses without using tickets, Nol cards

The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is set to unveil a groundbreaking array of projects and innovative initiatives harnessing the power of artificial intelligence and metaverse technologies at GITEX 2023. The event is scheduled to commence on Monday, October 1, 2023, at the prestigious Dubai World Trade Centre.

Among the remarkable innovations showcased at the RTA’s stand is a cutting-edge smart gate designed to revolutionize the way public transport fares are paid, leveraging state-of-the-art facial recognition technology.

Travel on Dubai Transport without Nol Cards

The smart gate on display promises to redefine the experience of fare payment for various modes of public transport in Dubai, including the Dubai Metro, Dubai Tram, buses, taxis, and marine transport.

Notably, this system introduces an entirely ticketless and cardless approach, eliminating the need for traditional tickets, Nol cards , or credit cards.

The underlying mechanism operates by registering and accurately identifying the user. It achieves this through advanced camera technology that captures the user’s face and performs a sophisticated 3D analysis.

The captured image is then transformed into bio data, which is meticulously matched with the user’s facial features. Subsequently, the fare amount is seamlessly deducted from the user’s account.

This groundbreaking initiative has far-reaching implications, as it contributes to the harmonization of transport services with other integral systems. It streamlines and expedites transaction processing, ultimately enhancing the operational efficiency of services while simultaneously reducing the reliance on cash transactions.

RTAs Facial Recognition Technology

The integration of facial recognition technology not only showcases Dubai’s commitment to embracing cutting-edge innovations but also signifies a significant step towards a more secure, convenient, and efficient future for public transportation.

Transfer Ownership of Plate Number

Demonstrating its commitment to adopting the latest technologies, RTA will introduce a service for transferring ownership of vehicle number plates via the RTA Dubai Drive app. The app allows customers to complete the selling procedures using the digital ID “UAE PASS,” eliminating the need to visit any of RTA’s service centres.

The service offers a unique experience, allowing the customer to complete the transaction via the smart app, complete the sales procedures that begin by registering in the system using the digital ID “UAE PASS,” complete the service procedures and securely sign the sales contract using the e-signature.

Predict Vacant Parking in Dubai

RTA is leveraging AI and big data to predict parking occupancy based on analysing transactions and parking inspection data. The AI model analyses and processes around 2.5 million parking reservation transactions and 600 thousand inspection transactions, by predicting the parking occupancy for every hour for two full weeks in advance and calculating the occupancy for every 15 minutes.

This initiative enables customers to plan trips by knowing the expected occupancy rates for parking lots through RTA’s smart apps.

As part of its initiative, RTA is also displaying the smart kiosk, the integrated platform for monitoring and managing the operations of soft mobility service providers, an indicator for measuring the risk of drivers, monitoring passenger movement at stations, and a congestion index.

3D Abra in Dubai

RTA will display a model of the world’s first Abra, manufactured using 3D printing technology in partnership with the private sector.

With a capacity to accommodate 20 passengers, the Abra employs eco-friendly electric motors and boasts a design that preserves the heritage identity of Abras.

This initiative contributes to supporting the government’s efforts to achieve Dubai’s 3D printing strategy, slash the manufacturing time of Abras by 90%, reduce the manufacturing cost by 30%, and support RTA’s strategy for environmental sustainability.

The RTA’s initiatives at GITEX 2023 reflect the region’s dedication to pioneering technological advancements and ensuring a seamless and hassle-free transportation experience for its residents and visitors alike.

Mattar Al Tayer, Director General, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors, RTA said: “RTA is committed to harnessing emerging technologies and AI to boost productivity, elevate operational efficiency, and enhance customer services. This drive is aligned with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President, Prime Minister of the UAE, Ruler of Dubai, to foster wellbeing in Dubai by offering diverse options for residents with a view to transforming Dubai into the best city for living in the world .

“Such efforts echo the directives of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Chairman of the Executive Council, to enhance Dubai’s global competitiveness and set it as a benchmark in developing governmental business, ensuring high efficiency, and a fully digital life.”

“RTA has numerous key projects and initiatives in smart transport systems such as smart control centres for public transport systems, and self-driving transport, as well as enablers of the 4th Industrial Revolution such as the Internet of Things, AI applications, machine learning, big data, the incorporation of robots, and electric energy technologies and solutions in mobility,” commented Al Tayer.

“RTA is keen to keep pace with the future direction of the Dubai government, in transforming into smart, innovative, and sustainable cities using cutting-edge communications technologies and digital solutions. RTA is seeking to realise the Dubai Strategy for Smart Self-Driving Transport, to transform 25% of mobility journeys in Dubai into smart and driverless journeys by 2030. In cooperation with the American company GM Cruise, RTA is gearing up to deploy autonomous Cruise vehicles for taxi and e-hail rides. The number is set to grow gradually to reach 4,000 vehicles by 2030,” he explained.

Users of Samsung mobile phones can now use their smart devices to take the Metro or any mode of public transportation in Dubai by installing the digital nol card on the nolPay app.

This was made possible following the agreement signed between the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Samsung Gulf Electronics on Wednesday at Gitex Global 2023 to enable the use of digital nol cards on Samsung smart devices.

Mohammed Al-Mudharreb, CEO of Corporate Technology Support Services Sector, who signed the agreement on behalf of RTA, said: “The signing of the agreement contributes to advancing the government's vision to establish Dubai as the world's premier smart city, and positioning Dubai as the first city in the region to digitalise public transportation cards on smartphones.”

He added the digital nol cards can be used not only to secure digital payments for public transport but also at various retail outlets in Dubai.

After the agreement signing, Fadi Abu Shamat, head of the Mobile eXperience Division at Samsung Gulf Electronics, told Khaleej Times: “RTA and Samsung share a common vision of providing consumers with the best services and products. We see digital nol cards significantly impacting consumer lives, helping improve convenience, efficiency, and overall experience of public transportation.”

Samsung users who will download the nolPay app can enjoy cashless or pay on-the-go transaction by simply tapping their smart phone or smartwatch. The digital nol card can also be used at select retail shops, groceries, public parks, museums, and more.
