The sprawling green fields are ideal for nature walks and this place is also a birding haven for enthusiasts. One can also hire a van rickshaw and visit the Golpatar forest, where one can enjoy the freshly constructed canopy jungle route walk, which is a really unique and exciting experience.

Taki in West Bengal is the perfect weekend getaway

Taki is rich in heritage and natural reserves. A number of disrepair ‘ zamindar baris ’ or the palatial buildings of the wealthy landlords can be spotted in the town, the most famous being General Shankar Roychowdhury’s adi bari . Also, the spot of the oldest Ramkrishna Mission, it is home to a 250-year old Government High School and a mini Sunderban consisting of the Sundari and Golpata species of trees.

On the religious front, the 300-year-old Jora Shiv Mandir and the Kuleshwari Kali temple are renowned spots of worship. Another tourist attraction in the region is the 129- acre Machranga island, which can be visited by boarding a ferry from the banks of the Ichamati river, known for the Golpatar Jungle and its canopy path walk. Since this is an international border, guests must carry their photo ID, which has to be shown to the BSF (Border Security Force) officers while entering the area.

The most popular delicacies of the region are ‘ Patali Gur ’ (jaggery) and the ‘ Chanar Malpua ’, a pancake-style dessert and ‘ Chingri ’ (prawns). You can also purchase the ‘ Gamcha ’, a type of thin, coarse, traditional cotton towel, which is both economical and made of good quality.

During the auspicious festival of Dussehra, visitors can witness the Durga immersion ceremony where people from both India and Bangladesh flock together to watch the idol of the Hindu goddess Durga being submerged in water.

In order to reach Taki, travellers can rent a car from Kolkata or catch a local train from Sealdah Railway Station and get down at Taki Road Station from where, vans are available to take you to the main city. Bus services to the town are also available from Esplanade. The exciting van rides charge a meagre INR 25-30 per head for a two-hour ride to give a full-fledged tour of the city. For a comfortable stay option, you can book a spacious ‘ Bagan Bari ’ or farmhouse which is equipped with open ponds, ancient rooms, open lawns, and other modern amenities.

Plan a Perfect Trip to Taki, the Border Town of West Bengal

Its in our nature to think about either the sea or the mountains as a great place for a vacation. But there are many interesting places that don't take a whole day to reach, yet are filled with countless instances of joy. Taki, a town at the border of West Bengal and Bangladesh, is already a tourist spot for many reasons. Once a village, Taki has its own old-world charm and aesthetics; you'll realise that while visiting the centuries-old temples and marketplaces dating back to the colonial era. The Ichamati River flows along with the banks of Taki, seperating India from Bangladesh. Simply walking alongside the river while the barbwire is visible on the other side is a different experience, after all. What if I told you that being one with nature can also be a thrilling experience? Once you delve deep into the stories of the colonial era and the atrocities faced by the locals at the hands of the British, chilled waves will go down through your spine. Not only will you feel bad, but the consequences will haunt you to the core. Yes, the neelkuthi and numerous incidents of paranormal activities will definitely keep you up at night. Mangalgunj is the perfect place for listening to such incidents in front of a bonfire—the classic way of storytelling. You can get your share of thrills on haunted trail walks, and if you're too afraid, the serene beauty of nature and calming Ichamati River are enough to soothe your soul. The Bibhutibhusan Bird Sanctuary is notable for numerous species of birds and other lifeforms, making it a sensory treat for nature enthusiasts. Thinking of offbeat, untrodden locations? Kapashati is little known for its remoteness, hence a wonderful escapade in the lap of nature. located in the north 24 Parganas and close to the India- bangladesh border, it is a hub for birds and other lifeforms, knitting a close tie to the greenery. Boat rides at the Ichamoti River and enjoying warm food beside bonfires are the key takeaways at this location.

Taki: a heavenly place near Kolkata to rejuvenate yourself

Have you heard about Taki? It is a very beautiful place on the bank of River Ichhamati. This tourist spot very near to Kolkata rejuvenates the tourist by its pristine beauty. Know about Taki before visiting the place to meet Mother Nature.

Why Taki? Major attractions of this place

How to visit, final few words.

west bengal tourist lodge taki

A nice article. I did not know that such a place existed near Kolkata. We come to know about the vastness of our country when we read about such new places. I had been to Kolkata long back and had a sightseeing tour of the city also but did not hear this name probably because of the distance involved as it can not be covered in the city tour.

I have some interest in writing on travel related matters and places of interest so I usually go through such articles in the magazines or net. I have also not heard about this unique place near Kolkata. It is a very informative article posted by the author so that the readers are getting aware of such beautiful place near one of the metro city of our country. Kolkata is already a great tourist place as it has so much to offer to the domestic or foreign tourists and addition of this place makes it much more attractive.

Thanks to the members who have gone through this article. At the first instance, I would like to state that Taki is a very ancient locality and the Kolkatans are generally aware of this tourist spot. But very few people outside West Bengal know about this excellent place very near to Kolkata. Tourists can enjoy the sublime beauty of River Ichhamati when it is in full flow during monsoon. In a peaceful winter evening, they can sit on the banks of the river and enjoy the sunset. They can also enjoy the beauty in motor-boats. However, they should not try to land on the other bank of the river, which is in Bangladesh. As Taki is a very ancient locality, the temples are also very old. The family mansion of India's former General Shankar Roychoudhuri is also at Taki. If the tourists want to return to Kolkata on the same day, they can do it very easily. But I am sure that the beauty of River Ichhamati and Taki won't allow them to do so.

Thanks a lot for this wonderful article about Taki, a nice work done here. It is very useful for a new traveller like me. We are waiting for more such articles. As a new traveler, I have only experienced a great trip to Sundarban.

TAKI HOTELS

HASNABAD, West Bengal

About Taki, Hasnabad

Taki is a small town on the banks of River Ichamati in North 24 Pgns. Just 70 kms from Kolkata, it is a retreat of peace and lush greenery. There are numerous hotels and resorts in Taki and we have handpicked some here ranging from budget guesthouses to deluxe resorts. Please do check the details of these accommodations in Taki and feel free to contact us for their bookings.

While in Taki, you can engage in various activities like sightseeing to Golpata Jungle or Mini Sunderban as it is called locally. Here you would find a whole lot of birds and a small patch of mangrove forest. A canopy walk has been built here for the guests to traverse through the mangroves and get the true feeling of wilderness. The settlement of Taki is nearly 300 years old and you can still find some reminiscences of its glorious past in the ruins of Taki Zamindar Bari, Ghosh Bari, and Jora Shib Mandir. If you are a history buff, then you would surely like to visit these destinations.

Apparently, new Taki is built on the banks of River Ichamati. The park and watch tower overlooking the massive expanse of the Ichamati is the most happening place of Taki in the evenings. Here, you can stroll around to check out the local eateries on the banks of the river and taste Ghugni, Malpoa, Puchka and hot simmering tea. If you are not a foodie, then search for a quiet corner garden bench and witness the beauty of the setting sun and the fishing boats returning with their catch.

Few other activities would surely include a visit to Machranga Dwip , which is an island in Icchamati River. A twenty-minute boat ride from the Ferry Ghat at Taki would take you to this deserted island where you can spend the day away from the din of city life. If you are with your extended family or office colleagues, then you can also arrange for a day-picnic at Machranga Island. Another much awaited activity at Taki is during Bijoya Dashami (Final Day of Durga Puja) at Bhashan. The immersion of Goddess Durga in Ichamati River from Country boats is surely a sight to behold in the evenings.

You can visit Taki anytime of the year. The monsoons bring in lush greenery and rolling dark clouds over the horizon of Ichamati River while the sparkling weather and Khejur Rash of the winters are simply few things you cannot miss in Taki.

If you want to reach by local train, then you can avail Hasnabad Local from Sealdah North. It takes around 02 hours to reach Taki Road Station from Sealdah. Many devotees visit the temple all year round to seek blessings from Baba Loknath and attain salvation. They also tie ‘Dhagas’ (threads) to fulfill their deepest wishes.

The temple opens at 8:00 AM when the puja starts. It closes at 12:00 PM and reopens from 3:00 PM till 8:00 PM. You will be able to receive some Raj Bhog or Prasad at noon. Do not miss the Sandhya Arati at 6:00 PM.

You can also visit Kachua Dham, which is another shrine related to Baba Loknath and is only 14 kilometers away from Chakla Dham.
