The Grand Tour Presents: A Scandi Flick —air date, interview, trailer and everything we know

The Grand Tour Presents: A Scandi Flick — the boys are back on the road for an icy adventure through Scandinavia's Arctic Circle.

The Grand Tour Presents: A Scandi Flick

The Grand Tour boys are back filming in far-flung destinations as series five kicks off with a chaos-fuelled special episode — The Grand Tour Presents: A Scandi Flick — which is set in Scandinavia’s icy wilderness.

The Grand Tour Presents: A Scandi Flick begins in the Lofoten Islands in northern Norway, where Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May set off on their mission to drive their pick of rally cars through Sweden and onto Finland, without ever dropping below the Arctic Circle.

Their stunning road trip takes in frozen lake racetracks and Cold War submarine bases, with plenty of pranks along the way that leave the trio on thin ice!

Here, Richard Hammond tells us everything we need to know about The Grand Tour Presents: A Scandi Flick …

Release date of The Grand Tour Presents: A Scandi Flick

The Grand Tour Presents: A Scandi Flick is available from Friday 16 September on Prime Video.

What happens in The Grand Tour Presents: A Scandi Flick?

After two specials filmed during lockdown, Carnage a Trois and Lochdown (both aired last year), the trio is all revved up to be back touring foreign climes. Tasked with driving through what’s described as ‘Europe’s last great wilderness’, Clarkson and co take viewers on a front-seat tour of spectacular snowscapes in Norway, Sweden and Finland.

There are challenges along the way, including pulling makeshift houses across Finland to the Russian border and speeding through ominous tunnels in an old Cold War submarine base.

"It felt great to be allowed back out into the world, but that’s not to play down the specials we shot in lockdown. We were really pleased with them," Richard tells us via video link. "They reminded us that it’s not all about the ambitious scale of a trip; it can be more about how we three get along and our passion for cars.

"But we do explore gorgeous terrain here," says Richard. "It’s described as 'Europe’s last great wilderness', and when the weather permitted, it was spectacularly beautiful. But it gradually became gritty and forbidding."

The Grand Tour Presents: A Scandi Flick

What cars will we see in The Grand Tour Presents: A Scandi Flick?

Richard tells us: "We figured rally-bred cars would give us the potential to cross rugged terrain, plus they're really exciting. I went for the Subaru Impreza because it was literally born out of rallying. James went for the Mitsubishi Evo, which has a slightly nerdier element.

"Jeremy, however, chose an Audi RS4 because Audi also made a rally car, but it wasn't that one," Richard continues. "It was more powerful than the others, though, so that made him happy. It's usually one rule for him and one for everyone else, but we’ve learned to live with that."

What else happens in The Grand Tour Presents: A Scandi Flick?

Despite often-perilous weather and terrain, as always, the petrolhead pals’ pranks and stunts cause the most chaos. Look out for Richard Hammond hurtling down a ski slope in a homemade house, Jeremy setting fire to his own car and scenes of skiers being towed across a frozen lake at high speeds.

But when James May dramatically crashes in a tunnel and is carted off to hospital, will it cut his trip short?

"I heard a boom from the other end of the tunnel and feared James’s arms, legs and head might have come off because he's not that well strapped together at his age," Richard reveals. "But the motto is, 'We're always prepared to leave a man in the field, if necessary'.

"We were concerned, of course, but on one hand you've got damage to a classic example of a spectacular breed of car, developed and honed over many years," Richard continues. "On the other, you've got possible damage to a gangly, blond-haired old man."

Is there a trailer?

Yes, you can watch a trailer for The Grand Tour Presents: A Scandi Flick here. It’s hair-raising stuff!

What else is coming up in series five of The Grand Tour?

The boys have been spotted shooting in Europe but are keeping tight-lipped about details surrounding the next episode. Rumour has it they’ve filmed in Poland, Slovakia and Hungary. Can Hammond tell us more?

"No, I will be shot!" he laughs.

The Grand Tour Presents: A Scandi Flick is available from Friday, September 16 on Prime Video.

The Grand Tour's last ever episode, One For The Road, has dropped an emotional trailer ahead of its release on Prime Video later this month.

The feature-length special wraps up 22 years of collaboration between Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond, who first worked together on the BBC's Top Gear before jumping to Prime Video's spiritual successor.

Their last outing takes them to Zimbabwe, where they will complete "a stunning road trip through beautiful and sometimes challenging landscapes leading to an emotional ending on a strangely familiar island".

Check out the trailer for the special below, which drops on Prime Video on Friday 13th September :

The special will see Clarkson, Hammond and May navigating the country in a Lancia Montecarlo, a Ford Capri 3-litre and a Triumph Stag respectively, in a move that echoes 2007's Top Gear special in Botswana.

Clarkson explained: "The premise of the original Botswana film was: why, when you leave London and move to Surrey, do you always buy yourself a 4x4? You don’t need one.

"To prove this, we decided to drive three perfectly ordinary cars across Botswana."

He continued: "I've always liked the premise that cars are much tougher than you think they are. They can take so much punishment; people don't believe how much their car can take before it expires.

"So, we did a similar thing this time: the three that we took to Zimbabwe were, on the face of it, ridiculous, but as you can see in the film, they survive. The concept was just driving cars we liked."

The Grand Tour co-presenter Hammond has assured fans that the series will continue with different presenters, but did not have any information on who might take the wheel or what format changes they could introduce.

A review of the ‘the grand tour: a scandi flick’.

A review of this film on ‘rally culture’ set against the backdrop of an Arctic road trip.

Who would have thought that The Arctic Circle, Europe’s last great wilderness , would be conquered by three Brits in rally cars? Set to a road trip, The Grand Tour returns in their special The Grand Tour: A Scandi Flick , and they are back better than ever. They experience danger and surprises as they venture from Norway in the Lofoten Islands to Ivalo airport in Finland near the Russian border. Given the harsh conditions of Scandinavia, they risk crashes and accidents. With only six days to travel 600 miles, the trio, James May, Jeremey Clarkson, and Richard Hammond, embark on this journey, regardless of the risk. Presenting comedy at its highest quality from the moment the special begins, while also paying homage to rallies in the early 2000s, this film is a love letter to rallying.

The Grand Tour is an Amazon Prime Original Series hosted by Jeremy Clarkson, James May, and Richard Hammond. The history between these three runs far greater than The Grand Tour; in 2002, they created car reviews, entertaining viewers with their exceptional sense of humor. In 2003, the trio went on to host Top Gear, an automobile show on the BBC. A decade later, in 2016, after a fallout between Jeremy Clarkson and a producer of Top Gear , The Grand Tour was eventually created.

They continued the original format of car reviews and guest stars for the first three seasons but then announced they would end the show. Later, The Grand Tour announced that they would continue the show in a specials-like format, with the yearly or bi-yearly movie-length episode ‘A Scandi Flick’ as the first episode of season 5 . Their dynamic rapport was possibly the most endearing aspect of the trio’s performance. The juxtaposition between adult conversation regarding the systems in the car, the modification of their vehicles, and the history behind motorsport is contrasted with their childlike behavior. The pranks they pull on one another, the situations they find themselves in, and the stupid modifications they make to their cars add to the humor, because they choose to use their knowledge to entertain the audience.

The Grand Tour has always been focused on cars, and on the culture behind motorsports. They have used the new format to show the history and love for cars in a more entertaining way than in a traditional studio audience network show. They have shown their passion for cars by going out, and driving them, putting them to the test and pushing them to their limits with different challenges and types of motor sporting events. There is always a theme or message to an episode, but in the end, they are three friends bonding over the journey they made in these cars. The show embodies the idea that it is not the destination but the journey.

Rallying is the central theme around “A Scandi Flick” which ties together every aspect of the special. Rallying is a specific kind of motocross event typically completed on dirt roads with hills and jumps, where racers either compete against a clock or in a more traditional head-to-head competition. Rallying and rallycross can exist in any environment, from roads covered in snow, dirt, or even sand. Snow rallying was how they chose to test the cars since it is especially popular in Scandinavia. Snow rallying allows for the use of the natural Scandinavian terrain and constant winter environment, which is perfect for pushing cars to their limits. The title of the special is even named after a common rally move: ‘Scandinavian Flick.’ A ‘Scandinavian Flick’ is when a driver, typically on a snow track, purposely oversteers to slide around the outside of a turn and line up to the exit of the turn while maintaining momentum.

the grand tour in norway

It is the cars that make rallying heritage so special. The cars are such a big part of the rallying community because the cars make or break the competition and are built to handle even the toughest of conditions. As Hammond said in the film, “It’s not a car that you crash or ding in the usual way. It’s a car that gets injured ‘cause there’s so much passion wrapped up in it from a lot of people.” Rallying is often hectic, so cars are built to withstand the unusual strain and endure what normal stock cars cannot. According to the FIA World Rally Championship regulations World Rally Championship, Rally 1 uses a 1.6T Engine, meaning that rally cars are characterized by their small engine capacity but high speeds, as well as their stock build. These regulations are what define rally and what makes rally unique, as not any car can be fit to be a rally car. You cannot take a standard factory-line car and make it work for rally; it has to be built for rally and be able to put up with tremendous amounts of force upon the car. To the viewers and drivers alike, these cars represent all the crashes, the suspension shocks, every hill jump, and obstacle climb. The cars represent how they are built for endurance and, by extension, the endurance of spirit. Each car means a different thing to different people, but they can all agree that rally cars represent the best possibility of what cars can be.

The Subaru Impreza is the rally champion, with 47 world championship wins and a total of 212 versions available on the market. Subaru fans are divided on which version is the best, but Hammond believed his 2003 Subaru Impreza WRX Sti limited edition was the best Impreza to choose from.

The Evo (short for Evolution), with 27 championship wins and ten versions released, is the other head honcho in the rally scene. Despite fewer releases than the Impreza, it has just as much of a loyal fan base. It has a community just as large as the Impreza has, and oftentimes, the Evo and Impreza are seen as rivals. James was content with his Evo XIII GSR and had full faith in the car and its rallying capabilities.

However, for those who are not familiar with the rallying scene, Clarkson made a bold choice with his Audi. Instead of taking an Audi Quattro, an iconic rallying symbol, he instead claims  RS4 is the heir to the Quattro since it is a fast and powerful track car. However, because of the RS4’s large engine and wide body frame, it cannot be called a rally car. Despite the lack of a real Quattro, it is more than made up by Clarkson’s humor and charisma as he depends on his Audi throughout the special, which makes up for his straying from the task.

2003_Acropolis_Rally_07

Their task is simple, to take their cars and cross Europe’s last great wilderness in six days. In those six days, they must cross more than 600 miles to the Finnish border. Most importantly, they must find out whose car is the best rally car there is.

(Spoiler Warning Ahead)

This being said, the movie itself was outstanding. The trio is back and re-energized after their hiatus. With the last two specials having been released during the COVID-19 pandemic, Lockdown and Carnage A Trois , being restricted in where they could go also seemingly limited the comedy. However, A Scandi Flick is a return to greatness for the Grand Tour, delivering 1 hour and 39 minutes of laughs. I also found it incredibly informative, as it taught me the real meaning of motorsport and the heritage behind the cars that I have always liked. The only pause in comedic relief was the collective concern for James May during his crash at the twenty-minute mark. Despite the crash being widely known prior to the release of the film, we were so surprised how early it was, fearing that any serious injuries might impair him or possibly remove him from the special. Thankfully, his injuries were minor, and the show went on. His journey would instead become a message of triumph for the rest of the runtime.

The redemption and survival of James May and his Evo are at the centerpiece of the special. May crashed his Evo into a wall after taking a turn too quickly, breaking a rib and totaling the car. He completely destroyed it during the crash but made a surprising effort to resurrect the Evo and bring it to Sweden. Later, while falling through a frozen lake in Finland, he got the Evo working again. That Evo became a symbol of the power of old-school rally cars and the power of the Evo. May’s Evo survived to work for the reunion they had months later despite being bodied twice and missing part of its chassis. For a comedy-based car show, the idea of perseverance would shine through special, as it not only embodies the struggle that the Evo went through, but also the spirit of rallying itself. These cars crumple and are destroyed but they always persevere. They run even with the frame and doors fallen off because of the determination of spirit. We connect to rally racing because it reflects the human condition; life is not paved and easy but rough with many ups and downs. Much like these cars, the human spirit takes every beating and still makes it to the finish line because that’s what humanity stands for.

From the discovery of the Dutch-Norwegian War to the ice-related pranks, and the extreme modifications to their cars like Clarkson’s fire exhaust, the bar is set high for their cars. One memorable event is in Skijoring, when skiers are pulled behind cars to race. We can see the passion return in the trio, and in my opinion, this is the best part of the special, ever since the series changed format to these full-length specials in 2019. On-par specials like Seamen and A Massive Hunt were fueled by their ambition which gets them into all sorts of trouble. This special surpasses those two in not only humor but as well as in subject. Seamen was a journey to Vietnam in boats and A Massive Hunt was a trip across Madagascar in modified cars. Both were entertaining to watch, but A Scandi Flick clearly had a lot more love behind it. In their distinct style and sense of humor, the Grand Tour showed the power and love that the motoring community has for rallying. This proves the power of rally cars and the passion which comes when you drive these cars. As well as just providing us with their antics, the visualization of them surviving the night in a Sami museum exhibit, Clarkson burning his car in order to melt the ice, and Hammond barreling down the ski slope in his shack, A Scandi Flick provides images that still remain in my memory weeks after I watched it.

the grand tour in norway

Its visual imagery of the Arctic Circle also does wonders, creating a sense of sublimity when the men are surrounded by the vastness of nature. The beautiful sights of Norway, Sweden, and Finland added to the viewing experience, by showing us the true beauty of “Europe’s Last Great Wilderness.” The B-roll footage of the black forest, contrasted with the stark white snow, provided a nice sense of calm to the visual intensity of the races. The peace of the snow falling was a breath of fresh air against the constant roaring engines of the cars. The visual imagery reinforces the idea of Europe’s Last Great Wilderness due to the vastness of nature depicted. In these moments, we see how small we are in respect to nature, as the cars are mere blips on the screen, while the forests, mountains, and frozen lakes encompass everything, with only a mere road cutting through nature. Nature is ever present in the special because of its meaning; the rally was meant to overcome nature’s obstacles. With every leg of the journey, nature became more unruly, and the closer they got to the finish, the harder it was to travel. From the moment they entered Finland, the final leg of the journey, they had experienced the power of nature at its fullest. From maneuvering between trees in the forests or having to cut across frozen lakes, mature checked the power of the rally cars. The stunning visuals gave us an understanding of what they really were up against in the Arctic.

When the episode premiered in September 2022, it was refreshing to see the return of the Grand Tour that I’ve loved watching for the last six years. Due to the extensive history behind both rallying and the trio making the movie, so much depth, passion, and love are added to this film. Even if you don’t like cars, you still can’t help but laugh and find yourself enjoying their childlike antics and pranks. If you have Prime Video and are looking for a laugh-filled hour and forty minutes, then I would recommend “ The Grand Tour: A Scandi Flick.’

As Richard Hammond said in the film, “It’s not a car that you crash or ding in the usual way. It’s a car that gets injured ‘cause there’s so much passion wrapped up in it from a lot of people.”

Jeremy Clarkson makes emotional admission in new trailer for The Grand Tour finale

The Grand Tour: One for the Road will be the last ever episode of the Amazon Prime show and will see Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May bid farewell.

Today, Amazon Prime unleashed a thrilling new trailer for The Grand Tour's final episode, One for the Road, and it promises to be an epic exit for the much-loved road trip show featuring Jeremy Clarkson , Richard Hammond and James May. It has become a sensation on the streaming platform with its global adventures and motoring madness.

In the freshly dropped teaser, set to the powerful chords of Bonnie Tyler's Total Eclipse of the Heart, we see the boys cruising through lush avenues. Richard muses: "I never thought that what we do together would go on as it has."

James contributes his own reflection, "Twenty-two years," while Jeremy throws in a mysterious query to the mix: "Shall we change the habit of a lifetime and help him?"

In a following clip, as Richard zooms off, he declares to his co-star: "Still a b***ard, after all these years."

The montage that follows is packed with high-speed auto antics, images of wildfires, nautical escapades, engine woes, and breathtaking vistas. Jeremy, reflecting on one of their destinations, notes: "Zimbabwe. We really did save the best 'til last."

He also shares a touching sentiment, adding: "I shall certainly miss doing this sort of thing."

As the trailer reaches its conclusion, Richard poses a comical question about whether they're all required to move into the same retirement home, while Jeremy humorously relays that James has already vowed to "delete their numbers" once the cameras stop rolling.

In their ultimate escapade, the crew decide to ditch Mr Wilman's advice and make a beeline for Zimbabwe in three dream cars: a Lancia Montecarlo, a Ford Capri 3-litre, and a Triumph Stag, reports the Express .

They set off on "a road trip through beautiful and sometimes challenging landscapes leading to an emotional ending on a strangely familiar island".

As the auto enthusiasts attempt to relish their last ride together, they're faced with the usual road trip hiccups.

These hurdles include "brutally rough terrain, mechanically misbehaving cars, moments of mapreading incompetence and the terrifying prospect of crashing, drowning or breaking a nail on the complicated retractable roof of Jeremy's Lancia".

In the poignant conclusion, the trio pay homage to their most cherished spot after two decades of globe-trotting for nostalgia's sake and finally say their goodbyes to the years spent filming as a team.

Amazon Prime's The Grand Tour, which hit screens in 2016, boasts five seasons with a grand total of 43 episodes.

Prior to this, Jeremy, Richard, and James had a long stint at the BBC's Top Gear, from which they all exited in 2015.

Opening up about their last journey after years of shared adventures, Richard admitted: "I'll be really honest, and they'll mock me for this, but I'll miss them terribly.

"We've worked together for twenty years. We've worked hard, and we have to egg each other on, and it's never just loafing about. So, it'd be difficult to recreate that situation.

"If I go over and visit Jeremy at his farm, it would be to go over and relax. That's not the same as having to get up at five in the morning and drive for eight hours through the jungle."

The Grand Tour: One for the Road is set to premiere worldwide on 13 September exclusively on Prime Video.

"The Grand Tour" reaches the end of the road on Sept. 13

Viknesh Vijayenthiran

  • James May, Jeremy Clarkson, and Richard Hammond will finally disband
  • The trio's final episode of "The Grand Tour" airs on Sept. 13
  • The trio have worked together for 22 years

After eight years together on Amazon Prime's “ The Grand Tour ,” Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May are about to hit the road for one final time.

And for many fans, the time spent watching the trio goes back to the early 2000s, when they formerly hosted “Top Gear.” In total, Clarkson, Hammond, and May have hosted car shows together for a period spanning 22 years .

The final episode of the The Grand Tour starring the trio will be streamed on Sept. 13 . It will be a one-off special, and from the looks of a teaser trailer released on Thursday, there will be a variety of locations.

Amazon hasn't said whether the show will continu e with new hosts, like Top Gear has. However, a social media post by Clarkson last year indicated that the show will indeed end after 2024. He said at the time, “no more Grand Tour after [2024].”

The Grand Tour first appeared on Amazon Prime in 2016 but went on hiatus after 2021 due to difficulties in filming new episodes caused by pandemic-related travel restrictions, resulting in only five seasons being filmed over the eight years, with the final two seasons each containing only four episodes. Amazon Prime originally snagged Clarkson for the show, together with Hammond and May, after Clarkson was fired from the BBC due to his 2015 attack on a fellow Top Gear staff member.

The Grand Tour proved to be a hit on Amazon Prime, which led to all three hosts getting standalone shows on the streaming service. They include “Clarkson's Farm” which provides snippets of Clarkson's life on his farm in the Cotswolds. Hammond's show is called “The Great Escapists,” and features both him and Tory Belleci as as fictionalized versions of themselves, and May has the show “James May: Our Man in…,” a travel show where May focuses on adventures across a single country per season.

A Grand Tour of Norway

A Grand Tour of Norway

Malek Murison

2. Stavanger

4. trondheim, 7. nordkapp.

A few weeks should be enough to take in the majority of Norway’s best cities and sights, and, assuming that you will be arriving in the capital, this is a fantastic, albeit rough, route to take as you head north…

A Grand Tour of Norway

A fitting beginning to your grand Norway adventure is its wonderful capital, Oslo . The city balances all the amenities of urban life with an easy access to some of Norway’s finest nature, making it perfect for comfortable yet potentially adventurous few days. The capital is situated spectacularly at the top of Oslofjord , enclosed by serene blue waters and the lush expanse of Oslomarka, which provides an accessible outdoor playground that locals and tourists can escape to. Oslo also hums with cultural attractions, ranging from the National Gallery - most famous for housing Edvard Munch’s painting The Scream – to proud institutions concerning Norway’s history and heritage, including the world’s best preserved Viking Ship , the Fram Museum and the sleek, eye-catching Opera House . The city’s compactness makes it easy to explore on foot, whilst its eclectic nightlife and varied restaurants ensure that you will have plenty of entertainment to choose from after the sun goes down.

A Grand Tour of Norway

After sampling the delights of Norway’s capital city, head west toward Stavanger and the open sea. The city is one of Norway’s cultural hubs and is inundated with visitors at various times of the year as an effervescent selection of festivals roll into town. They celebrate everything, from food to jazz and all things medieval. As well as an array of culture, restaurants and shopping opportunities to enjoy, Stavanger also acts as the perfect base for lovers of the great outdoors. From hiking to sailing and surfing, all manner of adventure can be found nearby, including a trek to the world-famous Preikstolen, or Pulpit Rock, for breathtaking views of Lysefjord.

A Grand Tour of Norway

Having enjoyed the charm of Stavanger, head north up the coast to  Bergen . Norway’s second largest city has a small town feel, as well as an innate beauty enhanced by the seven mountains that act as its natural enclosure. Whilst there are several breathtaking fjords only a short drive away, keen photographers need not stray that far. The city’s picturesque waterfront is adorned with houses of every colour, and the fishing heritage of the area dominates its modern day attractions. Among the most popular sights are the four buildings which make up the KODE Museums , as well as one of the finest fish markets in Europe.

A Grand Tour of Norway

If you want to try something a little different, consider taking a ferry from Bergen up to the next major city of Trondheim . It’ll certainly be a lot more luxurious than a drive, and you will get to see Norway’s stunning coast from a unique perspective. However you get there, once you reach Trondheim it won’t take you long to realise that it’s a beautiful, historical town driven by a large student population. In a few days here you can explore several historic buildings including the famous Nidaros Cathedral, a magnificent piece of architecture which dates back to the 11 th century. You might also want to visit the Archbishop's Palace, and the popular Ringve Museum , which is Norway’s national museum of music and instruments. The musical theme continues further into the city, with Rockheim , another museum dedicated to showcasing the best of Norwegian rock and pop.

If you fancy something a little more outdoorsy, why not catch a boat to the historical island of  Munkholmen for a great view of Trondheim from the sea. Keen fishermen will also enjoy the Nidelven River, which is one of Norway's best locations for catching salmon and trout. In general, the entire city’s infrastructure is perfectly suited to cyclists, so why not explore on two wheels?

Lofoten islands in nothern norway

With its arching stone crests, incredible beaches and stunning scenery, the archipelago of Lofoten is Norway at its majestic best. The main islands, Austvågøy, Vestvågøy, Flakstadøy, and Moskenesøy, are separated from the mainland by Vestfjorden, but travel between them is made fairly easy by the many road bridges and tunnels. On approach, you could be forgiven for wondering how people live in this overwhelmingly scenic, but seemingly remote and inhospitable part of Norway, but they do! There are many sheltered bays, with plenty of charming sheep pastures and picturesque villages. Some island highlights include the beaches of Horseid and Bunes, as well as the spectacular view from Reinebringen out over the Lofoten wall.

6. Tromsø

A Grand Tour of Norway

The next step of your grand Norwegian tour takes you a little further north to the winter wonderland of Tromso . The city is bordered by mighty, snow-topped mountains, and is found amongst a cluster of islands off Norway’s northern coast around 400km into the Arctic Circle . Tromsø is celebrated for its energetic residents, a world-class university, its alcohol (in a good way) and a summertime bursting with culture and activities. Visitors can expect a more than friendly welcome in a city with more pubs per capita than any other in Norway! The nearby mountains also offer plenty to do, including exceptional hiking opportunities in summer and skiing and dogsledding in the winter.

A Grand Tour of Norway

A fitting conclusion to your tour of Norway is to reach its northernmost point at what is the end of mainland Europe. The North Cape , or Nordkapp, is an iconic Norwegian landmark. Spend the day getting closer to some of Norway’s wildlife, watch the sun go down, gaze up at the Northern Lights and generally appreciate the breathtaking coastal views on top of everything you have seen during your trip.

James May’s Terrifying 70mph Crash into a Wall During The Grand Tour Filming

In a harrowing episode of The Grand Tour , James May crashed into a concrete wall at over 70mph, shocking viewers and his co-stars. The incident occurred during the filming of their latest Scandinavian adventure, highlighting the dangers of high-speed driving in challenging conditions.

Key Takeaways:

  • High-Speed Crash in Norway: While filming The Grand Tour’s special Scandinavian episode, James May lost control of his yellow Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 8 in a tunnel and crashed into a wall at more than 70mph. The 59-year-old presenter was visibly shaken and required assistance to reach an ambulance.
  • Challenging Driving Conditions: The trio, including Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond, were navigating unlit tunnels at an old naval base. The pitch-black conditions, combined with the need for quick adjustments at high speeds, contributed to the accident, especially when the overhead lights flickered on as the car entered each tunnel section.
  • Co-stars’ Concern and Audience Reaction: Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond were quick to respond to the accident, with Clarkson informing Hammond of the severity of the crash. Footage from the scene showed a dazed James being assisted into an ambulance, prompting a wave of support from viewers on social media.

In the latest instalment of The Grand Tour, James May, Jeremy Clarkson, and Richard Hammond ventured to a remote area in Norway for their episode titled “A Scandi Flick.” The premise involved the hosts driving at speeds exceeding 70mph through dark, unlit tunnels at an old naval base, testing their driving skills under extreme conditions.

Tragedy struck when James May, driving a yellow Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 8, lost control towards the end of the course and slammed into a rock wall. The collision was intense, with footage showing May being violently jostled inside the car upon impact. Jeremy Clarkson, realizing the severity of the crash, immediately contacted Richard Hammond, saying, “It’s a big one.”

SKOWHEGAN — Beer lovers from around the country are expected to head to Skowhegan on Saturday for the town’s annual Labor Day weekend brew festival.

The Skowhegan Craft Brew Festival is set to feature more than 100 Maine-made craft beers, wines, ciders and spirits from 24 beverage producers, along with local food vendors and four musical acts, according to an announcement from the event’s organizer, the nonprofit organization Main Street Skowhegan.

The festival, which began in 2016, is expected to draw people from Maine, 13 other states and Canada, according to the announcement. So far, people from as far away from Texas, Arizona and Nevada have bought tickets, the organization said.

“We’re thrilled to draw people from near and far to Skowhegan for our annual brew festival,” Kristina Cannon, president and CEO of Main Street Skowhegan, said in the statement. “Not only do events showcase our growing community and all that we have to offer visitors, but they also bring people to town who spend money at our locally owned businesses. Brew fest, in particular, brings people back again and again to our community.”

Sign up for the weekly “Skowhegan Now” newsletter

Tickets are required to attend the brew festival, and can be purchased online at skowhegancraftbrewfest.com . A $50 general admission ticket includes unlimited beverage samples from 3 to 7 p.m. and a souvenir tasting glass. “Designated driver” tickets for those who do not wish to drink alcohol are $10.

Ticket prices increase by $5 the day of the festival, so organizers suggest buying tickets by 6 p.m. Friday. Advertisement

A “VIP hour” at 2 p.m., featuring free food samples, other goodies and live entertainment, is sold out.

The brew festival is to be held along the Kennebec River in downtown Skowhegan, where the event moved last year from its previous location on Water Street .

Skowhegan Craft Brew Festival draws hundreds of beer drinkers to new location

Organizers said last year that the move was intended to help promote ongoing economic revitalization efforts along the town’s waterfront, including the planned River Park. Other events, such as the annual River Fest in August , are intended to achieve that goal, too.

With a contractor on board and the permitting process in its final stages, construction of the in-river whitewater park portion of the overall development is expected to begin in spring 2025 , Cannon said recently.

Construction of Skowhegan whitewater River Park delayed until 2025

Main Street Skowhegan uses proceeds from the brew festival to support its ongoing economic development efforts, according to organizers. The event is sponsored by more than a dozen local businesses and organizations.

The festival is expected to take place no matter the weather. As of Thursday, the National Weather Service was predicting mostly cloudy skies in Skowhegan on Saturday, with high temperatures in the mid-70s, and a 50% chance of rain showers after 2 p.m.
