We hire camping-equipped Land Rover Defenders and Toyota Hilux for touring Scotland. Our vehicles are equipped with roof tents, fridges and all the camping gear needed for up to 4 people to explore Scotland’s beautiful scenery.

A land tailor made for the LR4.

On the picturesque banks of Loch Butterstone we found forest tracks perfect for honing off-road driving skills. 

Driving through the rugged Atholl Estate, fording streams and along forest trails led us to the ideal spot for a traditional Land Rover picnic – laid out on the tailgate, watched by a rare blue hare and a leash of young deer. 

The Auchnafree Estate with its 12,000 acres of hills and crags, tarns and scattered ruins proved a tough testing ground for the capability. Here we were able to really put the vehicle through its paces, under the watchful eye of golden eagles riding the evening thermals above. 

The final drive to Gleneagles provided picture postcard views of Loch Lomond and The Trossachs and the promise of some much needed rest and a taste of Scotland’s legendary hospitality.

Expedition Tours

The Balmoral Expedition Tour is a wonderful experience for you to enjoy as a social household bubble. The charge for the Balmoral Expedition Tour is £350 and one ticket covers a maximum of six people.

The expedition is a two hour Landrover tour on the Estate. You can check below for availability and to make your booking online.

Timings for the Morning Expedition:- Arrive at Estates Office for 0945 and the tour will be from 1000 until 1200 Timings for the Afternoon Expedition:-   Arrive at Estates Office for 1245 and the tour will be from 1300 until 1500

We only offer a limited number of Balmoral Expeditions, so it is best to book early to avoid disappointment.

Accompany one of our guides on a fascinating tour of the policies of Balmoral. The tour takes you through the manicured parkland and gardens in front of Balmoral Castle. You then travel through the estate to the old Caledonian Pine Forest. This is one of the country's most important habitats and home to the elusive capercaillie.

After spending some time exploring this pristine area we head out of the woods onto the open hillside. The views soon start to open up as we travel through the heather high up the flanks of Lochnagar, one of Scotland’s most famous mountains.

The tour then heads back to civilisation via the monuments and historical buildings of Easter Balmoral. Discover the intriguing life stories of the resident wildlife and learn about the conservation management that is currently underway to help protect some of the United Kingdoms rarest species.

Although there are no guarantees, wildlife species which are regularly encountered, include birds of prey, red squirrels, red deer, red grouse, black grouse, snow bunting and salmon.

Swarovski binoculars are provided on the expedition tours. The outstanding quality of the binoculars allows you to get closer to the wildlife and landscapes of Balmoral.

The Expedition Tour includes admission to the grounds, gardens and the Ballroom Exhibition, when they are open to the Public.

Parking is available by the Estates Office and you can also visit the Mews Gift Shop and Cafe, making a lovely day out for your party.

Graham and his team put together the itinerary to our requirements and dreams, excellent hotels with good luxury and service. The Defender (the car) is almost new, impeccably clean. The accessories with it, the necessary ones, but the most important thing was the itinerary they made for us, the recommended sites and the ideas they gave us. The 4x4 of Scotland hire was a good alternative for the celtic one., unfortunately a stone crashed the windshield which was a costly repair of 606 pounds which we had to pay. Anyway, this we will forget quickly and remember the beautiful locations and hotels. Celtic tours booked in every hotel the best room with the best view, thank you for that. The dolphin and kayak tours were well organised with good equipment. Celtic tours route description led us to all the nice sites and beautiful roads, amazing. Thank you for the well organised trip and the flexibility shown when obstacles occurred (crash of your landrover, providing the picnic set and our early return). They delivered the car to us after leaving Dublin and the tablet was preloaded with the itinerary, directions, and ideas for things to do everyday. The car was a Land Rover Defender which was really fun to drive and they provided all the needed items for picnics including tea, water, and snacks. We stayed in places we would have never found on our own and all were very unique. The drop off of the car was at a Dublin airport hotel and Graham the owner met us and then drove us to the airport for our flight to our next destination. I would highly recommend Celtic Routes. Graham and Alexia customized for us just exactly what we were after. Throughout Celtic Routes guided tour around the North Coast 500 we were blessed with extraordinarily sunny and clear weather for late October, which made the autumnal colours absolutely pop. The tour itself was fabulous. Put together with obvious care and balance, the on-road route was wonderful, Applecross being a highlight, and the off-road driving was exciting. The hotels were fine choices (but swap Newton Lodge for Kylesku Hotel) and were matched by fine dining throughout. The Land Rover Experience was a thrill and the rib tour out of Cromarty Firth was a lot of fun, even though we didn't see any dolphins. Most importantly, Paul was our guide and was key to our enjoyment of the holiday. Knowledgeable, relaxed and a pleasure to travel with, he was on top form throughout. Nothing was too much trouble! He clearly has an excellent rapport with the people at the hotels we stayed at and the activities we had booked. We can't wait for our next adventure with Celtic Routes! Lovely accommodation throughout, ranging from country house hotel to very hospitable Llanerchindda Farm guest house and George III pub/hotel nr Dolgellau with exceptional views over the estuary. Quiet roads, lovely scenery (when not raining or low cloud!) and a few challenging green lanes to get the heart rate pumping. Thank you to Paul and Celtic Routes team. We were even provided with 2-way radios so we could keep in contact with our friends in another vehicle. We went to places we wouldn't have known about and each day was completely different to the day before. The choice of accommodation was great, from the locations, rooms and service to the food they provided. The picnic, brew breaks and lunch stops were always well timed, most enjoyable, and usually off the beaten track. We thoroughly enjoyed our additional activities on RIBs and boats along with the visit to Pool House Museum. Paul and Marisol are an excellent team, ensuring all aspects our Touring Adventure were well researched and planned with meticulous detail to ensure our comfort and enjoyment throughout the trip. Paul and Marisol thought of everything from packing our car with tea and coffee (and the means to make them) to arranging our stay at lovely accommodation. The food was fantastic throughout and the activities (zip wire, sea kayaking, pony trekking) were well organised and thoroughly enjoyable.
