Speedometer online - check how fast am i going

What is online speedometer.

An online speedometer is a digital web compass tool used to measure the speed of an object or vehicle in real-time through a web or mobile application.

How fast am i going

To use an online speedometer to determine how fast you are going, you will first need to open the tool on your smartphone or other digital device. Once you have the tool open, make sure that it is set to the correct mode for your activity, whether you are driving a car, riding a bike, or jogging.

Next, start moving and wait for the tool to register your speed. The tool should display your current speed in real-time, typically in either miles per hour (mph) or kilometers per hour (km/h). As you continue to move, the tool will update your speed accordingly.

It's important to remember that online speedometers can be affected by a number of factors, including poor GPS reception, network congestion, or other issues. Additionally, the accuracy of the tool may be affected by the speed and direction of your movement, as well as the type of terrain you are on.

For this reason, it's a good idea to use an online speedometer as a general guide rather than relying solely on the displayed speed. Always exercise caution and use common sense when traveling at high speeds, and be sure to obey all traffic laws and regulations.

In summary, an online speedometer can be a useful tool for determining how fast you are going while driving, cycling, or jogging. However, it's important to keep in mind that the accuracy of the tool can be affected by a variety of factors, and should be used as a general guide rather than a definitive measure of speed.

Car Speedometer online

A car speedometer is an instrument that measures the speed of a vehicle in miles per hour (mph) or kilometers per hour (km/h). It is usually located on the dashboard of the car, directly in front of the driver.

There are two types of speedometers: analog and digital. Analog speedometers use a needle and a dial to indicate the speed, while digital speedometers display the speed numerically on a digital screen.

The speedometer measures the rotation of the vehicle's wheels and translates that into speed. Inside the speedometer is a mechanism that is connected to the car's driveshaft or transmission. As the car moves, the driveshaft or transmission rotates and turns the speedometer cable, which in turn moves the speedometer needle or sends a signal to the digital display.

In modern cars, the speedometer is often part of a larger instrument cluster that includes other gauges, such as the tachometer (which measures engine RPM), fuel gauge, and temperature gauge.

Many modern cars also have online versions of their speedometers, which can be accessed through a smartphone app or website. These online speedometers use GPS technology to track the car's speed and display it on the screen. This can be useful for monitoring speed and for navigation purposes. However, it is important to note that online speedometers may not always be accurate, and it is always safest to rely on the speedometer in the car itself.

Train speedometer online

An online train speedometer is a tool that allows users to track the speed and location of a train in real-time through a website or mobile app. It uses GPS technology to determine the train's current location, and then calculates the speed of the train based on the distance it has traveled over a certain period of time.

Online train speedometers are often used by train enthusiasts, passengers, and railway companies to track the progress of a train journey. By knowing the train's location and speed, passengers can estimate their arrival time at their destination and railway companies can monitor the train's progress to ensure it is running on schedule.

To use an online train speedometer, the user simply enters the train number or selects it from a list of available trains. The website or app then displays the train's location on a map, along with its speed, direction, and estimated time of arrival at its next destination. Some online train speedometers also provide additional information, such as the train's route, timetable, and any delays or disruptions that may be affecting its journey.

It's important to note that online train speedometers rely on GPS technology, which may not always be accurate due to factors such as poor satellite reception, signal interference, or network congestion. Additionally, some online train speedometers may not display real-time data, and instead provide estimated arrival times based on the train's scheduled timetable. Therefore, it's always best to confirm train times and schedules with the relevant railway company before making any travel plans.

Bike speedometer online

An online bike speedometer is a tool that allows users to track the speed and distance traveled on a bicycle ride in real-time through a website or mobile app. It uses GPS technology to determine the bike's current location, and then calculates the speed and distance traveled based on the distance and time elapsed between GPS coordinates.

Online bike speedometers are often used by cyclists to track their performance and progress, and to plan and analyze their training sessions. They can also be used to share rides with others and compare results with friends and other riders.

To use an online bike speedometer, the user simply starts the app or website on their smartphone or GPS-enabled bike computer before beginning their ride. The app or website then uses GPS technology to track the bike's location and speed, and calculates the distance traveled, average speed, and other data such as elevation and cadence.

Many online bike speedometers also allow users to save and share their rides with others, either through social media platforms or by linking to other online services such as Strava, Garmin Connect, or TrainingPeaks. This allows users to compare their performance with others, track their progress over time, and get feedback and support from the cycling community.

It's important to note that online bike speedometers rely on GPS technology, which may not always be accurate due to factors such as poor satellite reception, signal interference, or network congestion. Additionally, they may require a good internet connection or mobile data plan to function properly. Therefore, it's always best to double-check the accuracy of the data and to use common sense and caution while cycling, particularly when riding in traffic or unfamiliar areas.

If you're interested in buying an online bike speedometer, here are some buying advice tips to consider:

1.Compatibility: Make sure the online bike speedometer is compatible with your device and operating system. Some tools may only work with certain devices or require specific software versions.

2.Features: Consider what features you need or want in a bike speedometer. Some tools may offer additional data, such as elevation gain, cadence, or heart rate, while others may be more basic.

3.Accuracy: Look for online bike speedometers that are accurate and reliable. Read reviews and ratings from other users to get an idea of how well the tool performs.

4.Ease of use: Choose a tool that is easy to use and understand. A simple and intuitive interface can make a big difference when it comes to tracking your speed and progress.

5.Price: Consider the cost of the tool, as well as any ongoing fees or subscriptions. Some online bike speedometers may be free, while others may require a one-time or recurring payment.

Battery life: Check the battery life of the tool. Some online bike speedometers have a long battery life, while others may need to be charged frequently.

Water resistance: If you plan to use your online bike speedometer in wet weather, make sure it is water-resistant or waterproof.

Overall, an online bike speedometer can be a useful tool for tracking your speed and progress while cycling. Be sure to do your research and choose a tool that meets your needs and budget.

How fast am I going?

More information, what is this, online gps speedometer to the rescue.

As drivers, we all know how important it is to be aware of our speed and heading while on the road. Whether we're cruising on the highway or navigating through busy city streets, knowing how fast we're going and in what direction can mean the difference between a safe journey and a dangerous one. Fortunately, with the help of modern technology, checking your speed and heading has never been easier. That's where a GPS speedometer comes in.

How does it work?

Before we dive into the features of a GPS speedometer, let's take a moment to understand how it works. GPS, or Global Positioning System, is a technology that uses satellites to determine your exact location on Earth. By calculating the time it takes for signals to travel from multiple satellites to your device, GPS can pinpoint your location with incredible accuracy.

A GPS speedometer uses this same technology to measure your speed and heading. By comparing your device's location at two different points in time, the website can calculate the distance you've traveled and divide it by the time it took to travel that distance to determine your speed. Additionally, by comparing your device's location and the direction it is facing at two different points in time, the website can determine your heading. The result is your speed and heading.

It's important to note that GPS measurements may not be as accurate as those from traditional instruments in your car. Factors like terrain, weather, and the quality of your device's GPS signal can all affect the accuracy of the measurement. However, for most everyday use cases, a GPS speedometer is more than sufficient.

The GPS speedometer website offers a variety of features to make checking your speed and heading as easy and convenient as possible. One of the most useful features is the ability to switch between different units of measurement. Whether you prefer miles per hour, kilometers per hour, meters per second, knots, or even mach, the website has you covered.

In addition to the unit of measurement, the website also provides real-time updates on your speed and heading. As you move, the display will update in real-time to show your current speed and the direction you are facing. This feature is especially useful for those who need to monitor their speed and heading while driving, such as truck drivers or delivery drivers.

Finally, the website also allows you to customize the display to your liking. You can choose between different color schemes and adjust the size of the display to fit your device's screen.

Using the GPS speedometer website is incredibly easy. Simply visit the website on your device and grant it access to your device's location. The website will then display your current speed and heading in the unit of measurement of your choice. You can leave the website open while you drive to monitor your speed and heading in real-time.

To get the most accurate readings, make sure your device has a clear view of the sky to ensure a strong GPS signal. Additionally, try to avoid using the website in areas with poor weather conditions or terrain that may interfere with the signal.

Benefits of using a GPS speedometer

There are several benefits to using a GPS speedometer. Firstly, it can help keep you safe on the road by making you aware of your speed and heading. By monitoring your speed and heading in real-time, you can adjust your driving behavior to stay within the speed limit and avoid accidents.

Using a GPS speedometer can also help you avoid speeding tickets and other legal issues. If you're pulled over for speeding, you can use the GPS speedometer data to prove your innocence and avoid costly fines.

Furthermore, GPS speed tracking on your smartphone can prove valuable for other modes of travel such as boating, skiing, horseback riding, and even while traveling on trains, ensuring you have a precise speed measurement across various outdoor adventures and modes of transportation.

There are several situations where you might want to check your speed using your phone's GPS, such as when you're cycling, running, or driving. For instance, if you're cycling through a scenic route and want to maintain a consistent pace, a GPS speedometer app can help you monitor your speed and make necessary adjustments. Similarly, while running, you can use your phone's GPS to track your current speed and analyze your performance. Additionally, drivers can also benefit from GPS speed tracking, especially when their vehicle's speedometer is malfunctioning or when driving through unfamiliar roads with varying speed limits. Overall, using your smartphone for GPS speed tracking is a convenient and versatile solution for various activities where monitoring your speed is essential.

Google has quietly added a live speedometer into Google Maps, allowing you to keep an eye on your speed alongside local speed limits . Android Police reports that the feature can be turned on and off from the app’s Navigation Settings menu in Settings, after which it will display in the bottom left corner of the app during a car journey.

The feature is just one of many that have trickled into Google Maps after first appearing in the Waze app, which Google bought way back in 2013 . We’ve already seen speed limits come to the app, as well as incident reporting , which allows you to notify other drivers about crashes, police checkpoints, and speed cameras. Google Maps even adopted the ability to customize your navigation icon .

Reportedly available across countries in Europe and the Americas

The feature doesn’t appear to be available everywhere just yet. Android Police says that users have reported seeing it in Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, India, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Sweden, Taiwan, the UK, and the US. The feature is reportedly not currently available in Android Auto, but is in the Auto app.

On a pre-existing support page , Google advises that its speed limits functionality is provided for “informational purposes only” and given how unreliable GPS can be, it’s probably best to take the same approach with the speedometer. Otherwise you might find yourself inadvertently making Speedy Gonzales look like Regular Gonzales the next time your phone loses signal.

How to Fix Slow Internet

10 Steps to a Faster Wi-Fi Connection

You need a faster router if your current router is using outdated Wi-Fi standards. Anything older than Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) or Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) doesn’t get you appropriate speeds equal to what’s capable on most high-speed internet connections.

Even a router that’s just a few years old might not meet appropriate speed standards, depending on your connection. Look into your router’s spects to see its Wi-Fi standards and max speeds and get a new router if it’s an older model. We have more information on when and how to replace an outdated router .

How to Replace Your Outdated Router

You can get faster internet by upgrading your internet plan. If you can’t upgrade your current speeds and feel stuck with bad service, you can also switch to a new provider.

Run a search with your zip code to see what kinds of speeds you can get in your area.

The fastest internet providers are Google Fiber, Verizon Fios, Xfinity, Metronet, and Cox. All of those internet providers offer fiber or cable internet plans with gigabit speeds. See our report on the Fastest Internet Providers .

A download speed of 25Mbps and an upload of 3Mbps is good for most people. That’s enough to let one or two Wi-Fi users play online games, stream video in HD, and attend Zoom meetings with minimal slowdowns or buffering. You will likely want a faster speed if you live in a larger household or do more activities online.

Not sure how much speed you need, exactly? Use our quick tool to test how much bandwidth you need for your home Wi-Fi network.

Why doesn’t my internet speed match my plan?

You likely won’t ever see the maximum speed advertised by your provider in the speed test, but your speed test results should come close. The speeds promised by your internet plan are the max speeds you can expect. Most of the time, your internet speeds will fluctuate within a small range of that max speed. What you see on the speed test is simply where your internet speeds are currently.

Internet providers will state “up to” when advertising maximum speeds because many variables can prevent you from hitting that top speed. You may even see disclaimers like “wireless speeds may vary” because Wi-Fi speeds are always inconsistent no matter what provider you choose—it’s just how Wi-Fi works.

For example, there may be issues with the provider’s service area, like faulty connections somewhere within the neighborhood. Speed may be slow because you’re using the internet at peak times, or your router may be outdated. Roots may be growing into the cable buried in your yard.

There are several reasons why your speed test results might not be as fast as you expected. Try these tips to see if you can get a more accurate reading:

  • Temporarily disable your firewall (but don’t forget to turn it back on afterward) and rerun the test.
  • Reboot your modem and router, and rerun the test.
  • Unplug your router from the modem, plug a desktop or laptop into the modem’s Ethernet port, and rerun the test.
  • If you have a wireless gateway rather than a separate modem and router, plug a desktop or laptop into one of the Ethernet ports, and rerun the test.

If you see inconsistent results, there might be a bottleneck on your end. You can troubleshoot poor internet speeds with our guide on how to fix slow internet . But your internet connection may just be slow either from your plan or your internet type.

If nothing helps, call your internet provider or look for a new one.

Here’s a brief overview of what your speed test results mean and how they affect your internet’s performance. For more in-depth information, check out our consumer’s guide to internet speed .

What speed does Google Maps use for driving to calculate ETA?

When a user plots a new route in Google Maps, the application computes an estimated arrival time (ETA) at the final destination. While this ETA is often accurate, the methodology behind Google Maps' calculations sometimes raises questions. Commonly, there's a presumption that Google Maps relies solely on speed limits for these calculations. Is this assumption accurate? Let's delve into the details.

What Data Influences Google Maps ETA Calculation?

Understanding eta, sourcing speed limit information for google maps, impact of current driving speed on eta, user awareness of speed limits, speed calculation during driving, specifying maximum speed in the google maps app, how to enable the speed limit option on google maps, understanding the formula for travel time calculation, does google maps factor in your speed for time calculation, speed trap notifications, handling time changes in google maps, walking speed, adjusting for time changes in google maps, driving speed.

Quick answer : In brief, Google utilizes not only the speed limits specified for a given road segment but also incorporates the user's GPS data in its calculations. As a driver moves, Google Maps dynamically adjusts speed based on the changing position relative to satellites. This ETA methodology is shared by various navigation apps.

The primary data source for ETA calculation is the average speed, providing stable values that don't fluctuate frequently. Utilizing this average speed, Google Maps projects the estimated arrival time for the driver.

Additional factors influencing ETA include:

  • The length of the route
  • Traffic conditions
  • Current average speed of the vehicle

Google Maps current average speed

While various factors contribute to ETA calculations, the speed limit remains a fundamental parameter. When a route is created, Google Maps initially has access to these figures, which are subsequently adjusted based on the vehicle's movement.

ETA stands for Estimated Time of Arrival, a term widely used in GPS navigators for reference purposes. By leveraging ETA, users can predict their arrival time based on the current location and the average speed of their vehicle.

Fastest route and average speed

Different mobile applications and navigation services, including Google Maps, Waze, and Navitel, utilize their unique methods for calculating ETA.

Google Maps aggregates information from various sources to calculate ETA. Key sources include:

  • Waze (owned by Google): Wazers contribute accurate, real-time data to Google.
  • Data from Google Street View: Collected over years, Google compiles information about roads globally.
  • Online information available worldwide

The Google Maps app integrates data from these diverse sources to construct routes and determine final arrival times.

Users of Google Maps observe that the estimated arrival time may differ from the original projection.

Estimated arrival time

This discrepancy often results from on-road situations like traffic jams, accidents, or repair work. Consequently, the app adjusts the projected time to cover the distance and reach the destination.

Google Maps relies on GPS connectivity with satellites, actively utilizing the user's location to monitor their speed and make real-time route adjustments.

However, speed limits are not always decisive for Google Maps, as drivers might exceed or reduce speeds due to various reasons or challenging road conditions.

Speed limits on Google Maps serve as warnings to users who exceed the prescribed limits, emphasizing safety.

When this feature is enabled in navigation settings, Google Maps displays a speedometer icon and speed limits in the bottom right corner of the screen. The online speedometer calculates the current speed using GPS satellites.

Using GPS function on Android phone

By comparing the current speed to the allowed speed, Google Maps informs drivers about their deviation from the prescribed speed limits.

While driving, Google Maps relies on data from GPS satellites, calculating speed as the vehicle moves. The app measures the distance between different locations and records the time taken to cover this distance. This methodology aligns with other mobile GPS navigators.

Regrettably, the current version of the Google Maps application lacks an option to specify the maximum speed. Users must manually manage their vehicle speed. For those specifically seeking this feature, TomTom is recommended over Google Maps.

For both Android and iOS users, follow these steps:

  • Open the Google Maps app on your mobile device.
  • Tap the profile icon to access the Settings menu.
  • Navigate to Settings - Navigation settings.

Navigation settings on Google Maps

  • Locate the Speed Limits option and activate it.
  • A speedometer icon will now be visible on the Google Maps home screen.

Here's a versatile formula for estimating travel time:

While Google Maps employs average values rather than precise figures, the results are reliable, thanks to real-time updates.

Indeed, if you know your speed and distance, Google Maps can calculate the time required to reach your final or intermediate destination. To calculate each value (speed, time, distance), knowledge of the other two is essential.

In regions with Speed Traps, drivers are vigilant to ensure compliance with speed limits, making speedometers crucial in GPS navigation. Google Maps offers a similar feature to Waze.

To activate Speed Trap notifications:

  • Access the settings of the navigator.
  • Upon approaching a speed trap, Google Maps displays a notification and emits a sound signal, prompting the driver to reduce speed in time.

According to Google's official response, estimated travel time does not adjust automatically with time changes. Users must manually calculate routes when crossing time zone boundaries. For intricate routes involving time changes, the Schedule Explorer proves beneficial. Users can visit Schedule Explorer, change the timezone, and create a new route.

Google Maps excels in accurately estimating average walking speed, a metric less prone to change than that of cars or trains. The average walking speed is approximately 3-4 miles per hour, although variations may occur based on terrain and other challenging conditions.

No automatic adjustments are made for time changes; users must manually update this information. The Schedule Explorer serves this purpose, allowing users to calculate routes that consider time changes. Access Schedule Explorer, modify the timezone, and create a new route.

When Google Maps detects a significant change in driving speed (exceeding 50 km per hour), it calculates an Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) based on the assumption that the user is driving a car. With an average permitted speed on highways of 120 KM/h, Google Maps imposes relevant limits and issues warnings about speed cameras if this option is enabled in Settings.

Speed Calculator

Table of contents

This speed calculator is a tool that helps you determine the average speed of a moving object based on the distance traveled over a certain time traveled. Whether you are test-driving your brand-new car or just going for a quick jog or cycle, if you want to know how to find average speed, this calculator will come in handy.

In the article below, you can find a lot of valuable information, like what the average speed formula is. We will also give you a few curious speed facts (e.g., the speed of sound formula ). Check this speed distance calculator and finally find an answer to the question how fast am I going?

Speed, distance, time

We have all heard of speed , but how confident are you in your understanding of this concept? Speed is, by definition, purely related and connected to physics. However, when you take the time to think about it, you don't see the vectors and formulas from your textbook, but instead, a cyclist, flying jet, or speedometer needle. We mostly associate speed with moving objects than with scientific equations. What is more, we have a sense that tells us how quickly we are traveling; that is, we can sense whether we are moving fast or not. For example, when you drive a car at a speed of 50 km/h, this is not too fast relative to the max speed of the car, but when you ride a bike with the same speed, it feels like a lot. So, we can say that the human perception of speed is relative.

Automobiles and trains measure speed in kilometers per hour (kph) or in miles per hour (mph), and on airplanes and ships, we usually use knots (kn). On the other hand, physicists most often use the SI base units which are meters per second (m/s). The speed definition hides behind these units, and we can get familiar with it by examining them. Everything about speed is related to distance and time. The units of speed are specified by traveled distance units divided by units of time, and that is the general idea of speed. In a more simple way — speed is the distance traveled per unit of time .

How fast am I going? — types of speed

Speed is not a precise term — there are a few more accurate meanings, and they should not be confused with each other. Let's consider the differences between instantaneous speed , average speed and rotational speed . For the purpose of two first, we will try to visualize it with an example of driving a car.

You are driving along the long, open highway. You glance down at the speedometer of your car; it reads 100 kilometers per hour. From this, you know how far you will drive if you keep the speed constant. We know that, in practice, keeping the speed exactly constant is almost impossible (although, on a highway with cruise control, it is nearly possible), and our speed fluctuates all the time, more or less. The actual distance you travel in an hour is the average of all these speeds. Conclusion — the average speed is the total distance traveled in a unit of time (e.g., in an hour).

So, what does the number your speedometer indicates really mean? That is your instantaneous speed; your speed at this exact moment. According to the textbook definition, the instantaneous speed is the change in object position, x, between two times, t 1 and t 2 (where this time interval approaches zero, i.e., t 2 - t 1 → 0).

The rotational speed is a slightly different term, related rather to rotating objects than to objects that change their position in space. Accordingly, the rotational speed is the number of complete revolutions that an object makes in a unit of time . It is expressed in radians per second (rad/s) or in revolutions per minute (rpm) units. We will not focus more on this topic because it is not the aim of this speed distance calculator. If you would like to find out more about the topic of angular speed, go to our angular acceleration calculator or the rotational kinetic energy calculator .

Average speed formula

Since the main purpose of this calculator is to calculate average speed, let's take a more in-depth look at this topic. Average speed is measured in units of distance per time, and the average speed formula looks like this:

average speed = total distance / total time

Typical units are kilometers per hour (kph), miles per hour (mph), meters per second (m/s), and feet per second (ft/s). In our mph calculator, the default unit is mph (kph for metric-units countries), but you can change between any of the common units.

🙋 To know more about determining the average speed, check out our average rate of change calculator .

Speed calculator — how to find your average speed?

Using this speed distance calculator is really easy, and you will get your result immediately. Check the points below to learn how to use this calculator properly:

  • First, you need to determine the distance . This might be, for example, the distance you have driven from home to another city. Input this into the appropriate field.
  • Now, there is a need to determine the time it took to cover a certain distance. Input this into the calculator.
  • And here it is, you'll get the average speed .

You can also expand the section below your result to access the extra functionality of this average speed calculator. Here, you can compare what the difference in time would be if the object was traveling at another average speed (a positive value if the object is traveling for a longer time and a negative value if the object is traveling for a shorter time).

Average speed vs average velocity

Speed and velocity might seem to be the same thing, but they're not. Speed is a scalar quantity — it is defined by magnitude only. In simple terms, it tells you how fast an object is moving. On the other hand, velocity is a vector — it is defined not only by magnitude but also by direction. It tells you the rate at which an object changes its position.

Imagine you drove a car 100 meters forward and then 100 meters back. You would drive at a certain average speed in each direction, but you would have zero average velocity, as velocity is measured as the rate at which the position of the car changes, and, overall, the car didn't change its position. Therefore, it is enough to say that the average speed of a car was 50 mph, but when calculating velocity, we would have to add direction, let's say 50 mph east.

🙋 Take a look at the velocity calculator for a full discussion on the difference between velocity and speed!

Speed of sound — curious speed related facts

Do you have a need… a need for speed? Take a look at some interesting facts and striking numbers of the speed of different objects and animals!

Nothing can go faster than the speed of light, even if we take into account that speed is a relative measurement. Light moves at the speed of 299 792 458 meters per second, which approximately gives 300 000 kilometers per second or 186 000 miles per second. The time it takes for the light from the Sun to reach the Earth is around 8 minutes.

Sound moves through the air at a speed of around 343 meters per second, which is 1234.8 km/h or 767 mph (at 20 °C / 68 °F). It means that a sound wave in air needs about 2.9 seconds to travel one kilometer, or 4.7 seconds to travel a mile — this data might be useful for storm-hunters to determine the lighting distance . In 2012, Austrian Felix Baumgartner broke the sound barrier (with his body!) during a free-fall from 128 000 feet. He reached a speed of 843.6 mph. To put it into context, the typical passenger of jet aircraft cruises at an altitude of 33 000 - 35 000 feet, at a speed of around 500 mph (depending on the aircraft type as well as on the wind speed).

You've probably heard that the fastest animal on the land is the cheetah, and it is true. Its maximum speed is really incredible, and, according to the latest research, it can reach speeds of up to 58 mph! Another amazing example is the peregrine falcons. They can reach speeds exceeding… 200 mph in air! In water, the fastest animal is the Atlantic sailfish — 68 mph in water.

What about people? Sprinter Usain Bolt is the fastest man ever in recorded history, with a recorded speed of 27.44 mph. What is interesting, scientists found that a man who lived 20 000 years ago in Australia (called T8) ran with the speed of 23 mph. Note he did it barefoot in the mud, while Bolt uses state-of-the-art running shoes and a dedicated track.

Is velocity the same as speed?

Velocity and speed are very nearly the same — in fact, the only difference between the two is that velocity is speed with direction . Speed is what is known as a scalar quantity, meaning that it can be described by a single number (how fast you’re going). It is also the magnitude of velocity. Velocity, a vector quantity, must have both the magnitude and direction specified, e.g., traveling 90 mph southeast.

What is the most economical driving speed?

While the most economical driving speed changes with every vehicle , the general consensus is that it is around 50 mph (80 km/h) . There are a few other things you can do to maximize efficiency, however. First, try to maintain a constant speed ; this will make your engine run as efficiently as possible — use cruise control on flats if you have it. Second, drive at the highest possible gear within the speed limit ; this again helps your engine run as economically as possible. Other tips include turning off AC and having as little weight in your car as you can .

Can Google Maps tell me my speed?

Google Maps can tell you your speed; it has an inbuild speedometer , which is only currently available for Android users. It is on by default, but to make sure it is on, go to settings → navigation settings , and under the driving options menu, there will be a slider for it. It is useful as it will change color if you are exceeding the limit — so you don’t have to take your eyes off the road. You can also report speed cameras and traps — but only if you’re in navigation mode.

How do you calculate mph to seconds?

  • Take your current speed in either kph or mph.
  • Divide it by 60 to get kilometers per minute or miles per minute.
  • Divide by 60 again, getting kilometers per second or miles per second.
  • Alternatively, divide it by 3600 for the straight conversion.

What are the types of speed?

Speed has many different types and terms to describe it:

  • Speed — how fast an object is traveling.
  • Velocity — how fast an object is traveling in a certain direction.
  • Acceleration — how quickly it takes an object to reach a certain speed.
  • Constant speed — an object moving at the same rate.
  • Variable speed — an object moving at a changing rate.
  • Average speed — distance covered divided by time taken to traverse.
  • Instantaneous speed — the speed at a particular instance.

What is the unit for speed?

The unit for speed is distance over time , as it is defined as the amount of time it takes an object to cover a particular distance. The base, or SI, unit is meters per second , but this is not very practical in everyday life. You are likely more familiar with units such as kilometers per hour, miles per hour, and knots . Any distance over time is a speed unit, so other units of speed include nanometres per fortnight, Boeing 787s per solar year, or bananas per Friedman.

How do you convert between mph and kph?

To convert from miles per hour to kilometers per hour :

  • Take your speed.
  • Multiply the value by 1.6.

To convert kilometers per hour to miles per hour :

  • Multiply the value by 0.62.

A handy trick if you don’t have a calculator to hand (e.g., you're driving) is to use the Fibonacci sequence (1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8…). Take a number; the next one in the sequence is the kilometers if the previous one was miles (e.g., 50 mph is roughly 80 kph).

How do you find the final speed?

If you have the average and initial speed :

  • Multiply the average speed by 2.
  • Subtract the initial speed.
  • You’re left with the final speed .

If you have initial speed, acceleration, and time :

  • Multiply the time and acceleration.
  • Add the initial speed to this number.
  • Revel in your calculation .

What is the formula to calculate average speed?

The most common formula for average speed is distance traveled divided by time taken . The other formula, if you have the initial and final speed , add the two together and divide by 2.

What are the types of acceleration?

There are two types of acceleration, average and instantaneous . Average acceleration is the change in velocity divided by the change of time and is how an object's movement changes with time, on average. Instantaneous acceleration is the derivative of velocity with respect to time , or the limit of the average acceleration over an infinitesimal period of time. It is used to find the exact acceleration of an object at a particular time.

What is FAST.com measuring? FAST.com speed test gives you an estimate of your current Internet speed. You will generally be able to get this speed from leading Internet services, which use globally distributed servers.

Why does FAST.com focus primarily on download speed? Download speed is most relevant for people who are consuming content on the Internet, and we want FAST.com to be a very simple and fast speed test.

What about ping, latency, upload and other things? When you click the “Show more info” button, you can see your upload speed and connection latency (ping). FAST.com provides two different latency measurements for your Internet connection: “unloaded” and “loaded” with traffic. The difference between these two measurements is also called “bufferbloat”.

How are the results calculated? To calculate your Internet speed, FAST.com performs a series of downloads from and uploads to Netflix servers and calculates the maximum speed your Internet connection can provide. More details are in our blog post .

Will the FAST.com speed test work everywhere in the world? FAST.com will test Internet speed globally on any device (phone, laptop, or smart TV with browser).

Why is Netflix offering the FAST.com speed test? We want our members to have a simple, quick, ad-free way to estimate the Internet speed that their ISP is providing.

What can I do if I'm not getting the speed I pay for? If results from FAST.com and other internet speed tests (like dslreports.com or speedtest.net ) often show less speed than you have paid for, you can ask your ISP about the results.

Excellent App!

This app does what it says it will do. I just read a review complaining that some features have been removed from the free version. “Don’t expect me to pay for something I used to have for free...” Really? Do you seriously think that this app did not cost time and money to create and to support? What does it cost? I believe it is four dollars. If you like it, buy it. If you are not willing to pay less the cost of a modest lunch, you are a freeloader and you don’t deserve access to any of the features this app is still offering in the “free” version. Just be grateful that they did not add a popup nag demanding that you buy the app.
I have tried a few other speedometer apps but I have to say this app is the best. What I like best about this app is the trip log and it’s features such as the map views and being able to pause then resume your trip. Also it is very easy to use and I recommend this app if you ride motorcycles often.

Almost great

- Lack CarPlay. - There should be an option to compare different routes. That way we can see which route is the fastest, or the longest, or see interactions between them. - No waypoints or anything to put a marker. If we can put a markers, then we can put markers when we start driving in the highway or on streets that me think there is going to be traffic. - Cannot add comments to the data. We should be able to add comments to be able to analyze the data better. Like if it was raining, a crash, day of the week, etc.

Release Information

Ryan Leslie has re-opened his R&B book for a new chapter with "Run It Back", the lead single from his forthcoming EP "You Know My Speed." The Grammy-nominated artist and multi-platinum producer, known for crafting Cassie's infectious lead single "Me & U" spent nearly a decade building a telecommunications software business before surprising thousands of fans with a summer concert in Cologne, Germany and playing a slew of unreleased music. Following an extended hiatus, the maestro behind hits like "Addiction" and "Diamond Girl" is returning to the distinct R&B roots initially showcased in his 2008 self-titled debut album. As a producer, he has worked with a plethora of prominent artists spanning R&B, hip hop, pop, and gospel genres. His impressive list of collaborators includes Beyoncé, Britney Spears, Kanye West, Mary J. Blige, Chris Brown, Cassie, Rick Ross, and Fabolous, among others. "Run It Back" is a ballad reminiscent of the minimalist songwriting and production that earned him a Grammy nomination for his sophomore album "Transition" and sets the tone for Leslie's long-awaited return to the studio and stage.

Average Speed Calculator

Use this speed calculator to easily calculate the average speed of a vehicle: car, bus, train, bike, motorcycle, plane etc. with a given distance and travel time. Returns miles per hour, km per hour, meters per second, etc.

    Average Speed formula

The average speed calculation is simple: given the distance travelled and the time it took to cover that distance, you can calculate your speed using this formula:

Speed = Distance / Time

The metric unit of the result will depend on the units you put in. For example, if you measured distance in meters and time in seconds, your output from the average speed calculator would be ft/s. If distance was measured in miles and time in hours, then output will be in miles per hour (mph, mi/h), and so on for km/h, m/s, etc. - all supported by our tool.

How to calculate the average speed of a car?

Let us say that you travelled a certain distance with your car and want to calculate its average speed. The easiest way to do that would be by using the speed calculator above, but if you prefer, you can also do the math yourself. Either way, one needs to know the distance. If you have noted the distance on your odometer then you can use that number. Other options are to use a map (e.g. Google Maps) and measure the distance travelled based on your actual path (not via a straight line, unless you travelled by air in which case that would be a good approximation), or to use a GPS reading if you used navigation during the whole trip. Then you need to know the travel time. Make sure to subtract any rests or stops made from the total trip duration.

As you can see, to work out your speed in km/h or mph just apply the speed formula with the relevant units for distance and time. This is how to calculate average speed of a car, bike, boat, or any other vehicle or object.

    Finding average speed examples

Example 1: Using the equation above, find the speed of a train which travelled 120 miles in 2 hours and 10 minutes while making four stops, each lasting approximately 2.5 minutes. First, subtract the time spent at the train stops: 2.5 x 4 = 10 minutes. 2:10 minus 10 minutes leaves 2 hours of travel time. Then, apply the avg speed formula to get 120 miles / 2 hours = 60 mph (miles per hour).

Example 2: A cyclist travels to and from work, covering 10 km each way. It took him 25 minutes on the way to work and 35 minutes on the way back. What is the cyclist's average speed? First, add up the time to get 1 hour total. Also add up the distance: 5 + 5 = 10 kilometers. Finally, replace in the formula to get 10 / 1 = 10 km/h (kilometers per hour) on average in total.

    Average speed vs Average velocity

Average speed (what this calculator computes) and average velocity are not necessarily the same thing though they may coincide in certain scenarios. This is basic physics, but a lot of people find it confusing. Here are the differences in short.

Speed is a scalar value whereas velocity is the magnitude of a vector. Speed does not indicate direction whereas velocity does. The two coincide only when the journey from the start point to the end point happens on a straight line, such as in a drag race. If the movement path is not a straight line then the average velocity will be smaller than the mean speed.

Swimming across a rushing river, sneaking down a dungeon corridor, scaling a treacherous mountain slope—all sorts of movement play a key role in fantasy gaming adventures. The GM can summarize the adventurers’ movement without calculating exact distances or travel times: “You travel through the forest and find the dungeon entrance late in the evening of the third day.” Even in a dungeon, particularly a large dungeon or a cave network, the GM can summarize movement between encounters: “After killing the guardian at the entrance to the ancient dwarven stronghold, you consult your map, which leads you through miles of echoing corridors to a chasm bridged by a narrow stone arch.” Sometimes it’s important, though, to know how long it takes to get from one spot to another, whether the answer is in days, hours, or minutes. The rules for determining travel time depend on two factors: the speed and travel pace of the creatures moving and the terrain they’re moving over.

How to check your internet speed: tests to use and what speed you need

author image

Super Fast internet connection speedtest bandwidth network technology, Man using Internet high speed by smartphone and laptop computer, 5G quality, speed optimization.

The internet has reached every corner of our lives , and living without it has become a headache.

What is arguably even more of a headache, is having internet that loads at glacial pace.

We use it for work, to watch shows on streaming sites, and even for something working out the route to new places, it’s almost impossible not to use Wi-Fi on a daily basis.

So, whether it’s for a binge-watch  session, or to hit a looming deadline, here are a few ways you can check your internet speed for free – and to know what speed works bestfor you.

How to check your internet speed  on your computer, phone or tablet

There are several free tests you can use online to check how quick your internet is on whatever device you’re using.

Highest-rated sites include the  Ookla speed test  or  Fast.com .

Ookla was one of the first speed tests on the web and has been highly recommended by different  tech sites  for its performance.

The test can be used on Windows or Mac, as well as on Apple TV. To use it, you can download the app on iOS or Android, or simply go on the website.

Man typing at his laptop computer at night

Click the ‘GO’ button in the middle of the page and wait until its software has analysed your download and upload speeds.

Fast.com has also been recommended as a good choice for streaming sites, as it is owned by Netflix. It has a simple interface, however, it does not allow you to specify the server you’d like to connect with for your test.

The tests should take around 60 seconds or less, depending on your download and upload speeds, and it’s recommended that you run a few tests using Wi-Fi for optimal results.

What is a good speed for the internet in the UK?

Broadband speed is measured in ‘megabits per second’, which is shortened to Mb Mbits p/s or Mbps. The ‘bits’ are tiny units of data, and the higher the number of Mbps you have, the speedier your online activity will be.

The broadband speed that suits you best will depend on what one of the three categories you fall into.

Light users are those who use the internet for day-to-day tasks like online banking and emails.

Medium users are people who only use the internet regularly for social media, browsing the internet and catching up on shows.

Heavy users are those who use the internet for a significant amount of time, mainly for activities that use up a lot of bandwidth, such as file sharing online gaming, or streaming videos.

How does the internet work?

The modern internet, known as the World Wide Web was first created in 1990 by a British scientist called Tim Berners-Lee.

It is a global network of billions of computers and other electronic devices, that allows people to connect to other people anywhere in the world.

Computers connect to each other and to the Internet via wires, cables, radio waves and other networking infrastructures.

Having a good download speed is important for most online activities, such as browsing the net, streaming videos and downloading files.

It is generally recommended that people have a download speed of at least 10Mbps, but if there are multiple people in the household, it is generally recommended that your household has a download speed of at least 20-69Mbps.

Ultrafast or superfast speeds of broadband would be around 60-1000Mbps – however, ultrafast broadband tends to only be available for areas that have had a full fibre infrastructure installed.

What to do if your internet is slow

If you’re stuck watching the spiral of doom turn round and round, the best idea would be to switch off your Wi-Fi modem for 30 seconds then turn it back on.

If your internet is slower in certain rooms that means your Wi-Fi signal is weak, and there could be a disruption to the signal, which can be improved using a Wi-Fi booster.

With these small tools, it’s possible to determine all relevant performance parameters of an SSD and then compare them accordingly. You should check whether your SSD fulfils the following manufacturer specifications in full:

  • Sequential read
  • Sequential writing
  • Sequential copying

You should also take a look at the drive information, including the corresponding S.M.A.R.T. values , as these reveal whether your SSD is actually a new storage medium.

Once you have checked the performance of your SSD, you are already quite a bit further along and can concentrate on the next step.

Application performance

In addition to the more theoretical sequential performance values, the highest possible application performance of your new SSD in programs and games is of primary importance to you as a user. You can determine this in several ways.

To get an initial rough idea of the application performance of your SSD, we recommend the PCMark 10 benchmark. The benchmark from UL Solutions was specially developed for Windows 10 and Windows 11 and tests and compares the latest SSDs with special storage benchmarks that simulate the actual storage requirements in everyday use.

PCMark 10

UL Solutions

The PCMark 10 SSD benchmark determines the relevant parameters of all SSDs installed in the system and compares them with the numerous reference values from UL Solutions’ huge SSD database. This allows performance bottlenecks and potential bottlenecks to be quickly identified and subsequently rectified.

Stability test

Testing an SSD for stability is no trivial task, as errors and stability problems with flash memory cells cannot be easily detected and often only become apparent in the system during everyday use.

However, to ensure the highest possible stability of your SSD, you should fulfil a few basic requirements that can reduce later problems to a minimum.

Update the firmware of your SSD to the latest version and use one of the following manufacturer tools, depending on the manufacturer:

  • Samsung Magician
  • Western Digital Drive Utilities
  • Corsair Solid State Drive Toolbox
  • Crucial Crucial Storage Executive Tool
  • Kingston SSD Manager App
  • GIGABYTE SSD Toolbox
  • ADATA SSD Toolbox

Once the firmware of your SSD is up to date, restart your system and then restart the manufacturer’s tool.

Now it’s time to get an approximate idea of the possible lifespan of your SSD. You can also use the manufacturer’s tools or applications such as the powerful CrystalDiskInfo tool for this.

The “Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology”, the so-called S.M.A.R.T. values, are of particular interest here. Pay particular attention to the following parameters:

  • Temperatures
  • UDMA error rate
  • End-to-end error
  • Reported uncorrectable errors
  • Media and data integrity errors
  • Unsafe shutdowns
  • Critical warnings
  • S.M.A.R.T. status

To ensure that the SSD you have purchased is really new, the following parameters should also be included:

  • Overall condition
  • Number of operating hours
  • Number of switch-on and switch-off operations
  • Number of write, read, and copy operations
  • Serial number and firmware

The manufacturer tools and third-party software can also be used to check whether your SSD is correctly configured and connected in terms of the interface and transfer mode.

Note: An independent Google study, which ran for nine months and included all manufacturers and a total of 100,000 drives, produced the following result: Taking all relevant parameters into account, 64 percent of all failures can be predicted with S.M.A.R.T.
