Adelais (Tours) de Tours (abt. 811 - abt. 866)

Research notes.

Not the wife of Robert of France, Count of Anjou, or at least not the mother of his children. Wikipedia: The name of Robert's wife is not attested in primary sources. According to some modern scholars she was Adelaide or Adalais, a daughter of Hugh of Tours and the widow of Conrad I of Auxerre (died 862), a Welf. Since Robert already had children by 862, Adelaide would have to have been his second wife. French genealogist Christian Settipani has identified the source of this identification as the unreliable twelfth-century Chronicle of Saint-Bénigne de Dijon. The Europäische Stammtafeln has identified Robert's first wife as a certain Agane. Whatever the facts, two of Robert's sons became kings of France: Odo and Robert.

Person:Adelais of Tours (1)

Adelaide (Aelis) of Tours ( 820 – c. 866) was a daughter of Count Hugh of Tours and his wife Ava, who was a sister of Matfrid , Count of Orléans .

She married Conrad I, Count of Auxerre , with whom she had at least two children, Hugh and Conrad the Younger . Additionally legend of the later Swabian branch of the House of Welf assigns to Conrad and Adelaide an additional son, Welf I , a relationship considered probable.

After her husband's death around 864, she married Robert the Strong , and had two children, Odo and Robert I of France .

Robert's grandson was Hugh Capet , the first King of the House of Capet .

'Some secondary works assert that the second husband of Adelais was Robert "le Fort" [Capet]. If this is correct, Adelais must have been Comte Robert's second wife as his known children were already born by the time Adelais's husband Conrad died. Settipani states that the only basis for the assertion is a 12th century interpolation in the Chronicle of Saint-Bénigne de Dijon, which is of little historical value. Nevertheless, he suggests that it is likely that the wife of Comte Robert was a close relation of Adelais, although the basis for this is not known.'

The reader is encouraged to check this website for updates.

As of January 2012, this article is of questionable quality. Some of the information, such as her being the mother of Robert the Strong's children, is contradicted by Medieval Lands , a considerably more reliable source.

Brief life history of adélaide.

geni.com Adélaïs / Aélis of France English (default): Adélaïs / Aélis, German: von Sundgau Also Known As: "Adelaide", "Adelaïs", "Adelheid", "Aelis", "Aélis", "Eve", "Adelaide of Tours", "COMTE DE TOURS ET D'ANJOU", "Queen (Consort) of France", "Aelis de Tours", "Princess Holy Roman Empire", "d'Alsace", "de Ponthieu" Birthdate: circa 819 Birthplace: Tours, Touraine, Carolingian Empire Death: 882 (58-67) Tours, Touraine, West Francia Immediate Family: Daughter of Hugh "the Timid", count of Tours and Ava de Morvois, Countess of Lower Alsace Wife of Conrad I "the Elder", count of Auxerre and Robert "the Strong", Margrave of Neustria Mother of Conrad II "the Younger", Duke of Upper Burgundy; Welf II, count of Argengau; Judith d'Auxerre, im Linzgau; Rudolf, Abbot Of St. Riquier; Hugh “the Abbot”; Odo, king of West Francia and Robert I, king of West Francia Sister of Luitfried III, count in Sundgau; Hugues I, count of Bourges; Bertha of Tours; Ermengarde of Tours and Berengar of Tours Occupation: Princess of the Holy Roman Empire, Queen, mother of Robert Adelaide de Tours was married to Konrad LZ2X-TJV whom died 16th February 963 or 4. It is not possible for her to the be mother of L2H4-9QX and 9H6Q-VVW because she was married at the time, and they were born before her relationship to L4SB-2FB Robert 'le Fort' marquis de Neustrie. ADELAIS (-after 866). The Miraculis Sancti Germani name "Adheleid" as wife of "Chuonradus princeps", noting that she was “primorum et ipsa natalium perinde titulus gloriosa”[158]. A poem by Walahfridus Strabus records the epitaph of "Adelheidam"[159]. The primary source which confirms her parentage has not yet been identified. Some secondary works[160] assert that the second husband of Adelais was Robert "le Fort" [Capet]. If this is correct, Adelais must have been Comte Robert's second or third wife as Conrad died after 862 by which date Robert's known children were already born. The assertion appears based on the Chronicle of St Bénigne de Dijon which names "duo filii Rotberti Andegavorum comitis, frs Hugonis abbatis, senior Odo…Robertus alter"[161]. Settipani states that the passage is a 12th century interpolation and has little historical value, although he does suggest that it is likely that the wife of Comte Robert was a close relation of Adelais without providing the basis for this statement [162]. A family connection between Comte Robert and Conrad Comte de Paris is also suggested by the former being invested with the county of Auxerre in 865, after this county was confiscated from the latter (as recorded by Hincmar[163]), on the assumption that there was some basis of heredity behind the transmission of counties in France at that time (which is probable but remains unproven). m CONRAD "l'Ancien" Comte de Paris, son of WELF I Graf in Swabia & his wife Heilwig --- (-22 Mar [862/66]).
