Visiting Students
Make Feinberg part of your journey.
We welcome visiting medical students from other institutions to apply to electives at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, located in the Streeterville neighborhood of Chicago, along the shore of beautiful Lake Michigan. Our location gives students access to our top-rated clinical affiliates — including Northwestern Memorial Hospital, the Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago and the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab — as well as to the city of Chicago’s vibrant cultural landscape. Here you’ll have experiences that will help you grow both professionally and personally. At Feinberg, our ultimate goal is educating future leaders in medicine. To accomplish this, we value excellence in all arenas, from clinical care to research.
We seek visiting students who are active learners who will ask questions not only about patients, science, and health policy, but also about themselves. Our visiting students are future leaders, but they also understand how important it is to be a team player and to develop relationships with others. You can’t do anything alone in the field of medicine. You can’t prepare for a career in the field of medicine alone either: visiting students work with our renowned faculty — physicians and scientists who are experts and innovators in their fields — every step of the way. We encourage you to explore everything Feinberg has to offer and thank you for your interest.

Stipends for Underrepresented Students
The Feinberg Office of Diversity and Inclusion works closely with the McGaw Medical Center to diversify residency training programs at McGaw and our affiliated hospitals. Stipends are available to defray expenses for visiting clerkship participants who are from groups traditionally underrepresented in medicine.
I can honestly say the visiting student program is the reason why I chose to attend Northwestern for residency, and receiving the diversity stipend made that rotation possible. The program afforded me the chance to experience firsthand the city of Chicago, the hospital campus and the residency program itself. The stipend also showed me the importance that Northwestern places on recruiting and supporting efforts to improve diversity by putting monetary support directly behind those efforts.”

We're all about connections
A college visit used to be linear: you travel to campus, take a tour, go home and perhaps apply, perhaps not. Today, your college search can span a network of connections. (And as you'll learn, Northwestern is all about connections.) Maybe you can visit—if so, we will be thrilled to welcome you here. But we recognize a physical trip isn't possible for many. So in addition to on-campus visit opportunities, we offer a variety of online events and activities so you can get to know us from afar.
Much like the Northwestern academic experience, our in-person opportunities aim to provide you with a flexibility that allows you to choose your own Northwestern direction. We hope you’ll be able to identify programming that fits into your schedule and caters to your individual interests.
To learn more about on-campus programming, click on the "Visit campus" link below. Even if you’re not planning a trip to Chicagoland, we still have many ways for you to learn about the Northwestern experience: click on the “Explore Northwestern online” button to view all of the available options.

PhosAgro plans to introduce renewable energy sources
PhosAgro has launched a project aimed at the use of renewable energy sources (RES) at industrial and social facilities. Sanatory and hotel complex Izumrud in the city of Balakovo (Saratov region) became the first experimental site. The first stage of the project for the installation of a solar power plant has already been completed here. Panels able to generate up to 25 kW per hour have appeared on the roof of a medical building.
“The implementation of modern energy-efficient technologies is another sign that PhosAgro keeps in step with the times and strives to comply with the UN Sustainable Development Principles,” said Semyon Yakovlev, Director of Izumrud. “Solar panels will allow us to almost completely meet the complex’s needs for electricity. There are no similar projects in Balakovo. The system is currently in test mode.”
As the Chief Power Engineer of the Balakovo branch of Apatit (part of PhosAgro) reported, the company has chosen the city of Balakovo to launch the project, since the savings from the use of RES will be the most significant and noticeable here.
The work on the project began a year ago when the energy consumption of Izumrud and the required power of the solar station were determined.
“We decided to implement a solar power plant without storage batteries. Therefore, we simply install solar panels on the roofs of buildings, which will provide the complex with electricity during the day. The Izumrud company will continue to use the usual electrical network when the weather is not sunny enough,” explained Vyacheslav Kovalenok, Chief Power Engineer of the Balakovo branch of Apatit.
The total capacity of the solar battery system will amount to 40 kW per hour. PhosAgro’s initiative to use renewable energy sources and energy-efficient technologies fully correspond to its commitment to the UN’s sustainable development goals. The implementation of measures aimed at reducing the environmental impact and improving the environmental safety of production processes is one of the most important directions in PhosAgro’s sustainable development strategy until 2025.”
In 2003, the Balakovo branch of Apatit JSC began implementing a program to improve energy efficiency. The enterprise began to actively use heat from the production to generate electricity. Today, all steam is directed to power generation units. Thus, the plant is 80% self-sufficient in electricity.
Since 2015, the company has been showing a sustainable increase in output of all types of products, including fertilizers, fodder monocalcium phosphate, sulfuric and phosphoric acids. However, the indicators of emission of greenhouse gases are reduced and remain below the limits. This was achieved through the modernization of production facilities and the introduction of the best available technologies.
Besides solar energy, the company is also considering using wind turbines to generate electricity.
