A passport is required to enter China and it must be valid for more than six months after the return date of travel.

Visas are required by all foreigners entering mainland China. Presently, visas are not required for U.S. and Canada citizens visiting Hong Kong and Macau.

Travelers in transit can stay in China visa-free for up to 72 hours as long as they have an onward air ticket for a flight from China to another destination departing within that time period. Please refer to the Chinese Embassy website for the latest up-to-date information.

Please note while a Transit Visa is a convenient and cost-saving method of entry,  such policy can change quickly and without notice. We strongly recommend obtaining your visa in advance to avoid any entry issues.

Departure taxes on all domestic and international flights are now included in the cost of your tickets; thus they do not need to be paid separately at time of departure.

On Domestic flights, passengers are allowed 44 pounds of luggage per person. On International flights, passengers are allowed two pieces of checked luggage. Excess luggage fees will be charged if you check more than the stated allowances, and these charges are your responsibility.  At most major airports, baggage carts are available for your luggage, usually for a small additional fee.

China’s geographic area is slightly larger than the U.S.A; it covers similar latitudes, with the lion’s share located in the temperate zone. This provides endless year-round variety for visitors to the country, from ice festivals in the north to tropical beach resorts in the south. Keep in mind the vast distances between destinations when planning your trip. Traveling, along the popular Golden Route (Beijing, Xi’an, Shanghai, Guilin) is the rough equivalent of visiting Chicago, Washington DC and Atlanta, all in one trip.

While China is a year-round destination, the months of April May, September, and October are ideal months for travel anywhere in the country. In the north, the winters are cold, and summers are warm, with moist monsoon air streams making it hot (80% of China’s rainfall occurs between late May and early October, mostly in the Southern regions). 

International Direct Dialing (IDD) service is provided at all hotels. SIM Cards for your mobile phones are also widely available. You may also check with your mobile service provider if an international plan may be available. 

Internet Access will be available at all hotels although charges may apply. Wifi is widely available in public areas including restaurants and hotel lobby. For those accustomed to using Google services such as GoogleMaps, GMail, etc., it is important to note these services are NOT accessible in China, as are social media sites/apps such as Facebook and Instagram. 

Most hotels provide postal services for documents and small packages. If you need to ship items such as antiques and cultural relics that are under customs control, you will have to ask for the help of the local branch of the international post office.

Renminbi(US$1=approx. RMB 6.8), the Chinese currency, is issued by the state bank, the People’s Bank of China.  The standard unit of the Renminbi is Yuan, with jiao and fen as the subsidiary units. Renminbi features the following denominations: one, two, five, ten, fifty and a hundred yuan; one, two, and five jiao; and one, two and five fen. The abbreviation for Renminbi is RMB.

ATMs are readily available throughout China. If you're bringing cash, currency exchange is available at banks and most hotels. China remains very much a cash-based society (unless you're setup for  mobile payment apps such as Alipay or UnionPay) so it is advisable to obtain RMB once you arrive. USD and other foreign currencies are NOT accepted. 

So far the following foreign credit cards are acceptable in China. However, many smaller shops and restaurants accept only cash, AliPay /UnionPay or credit cards issued locally. Again, it is important to always have some cash in hand.

A visa is required to enter China for most foreign nationals including U.S. and Canada passport holders. With the exception of transit visas, they must be applied for in advance at your local Chinese Embassy/Consulate. 

According to related laws and regulations, the luggage of inbound and outbound passengers must come under customs supervision and control. Passengers should make accurate declarations to customs officials regarding the luggage they carry into or out of the territory.

Electrical appliances will require an adapter that can change the shape of the plug prongs, as well as an electrical voltage converter that will allow a normal 110-volt American appliance to take 220 Volt Chinese current. Most hotels have a hair-dryer in each room.

All breakfasts served in the hotel are buffet style of Western and Chinese cuisine, typically with a large choice of items to choose from. Depending on your tour, some lunches and dinners are also included. Please keep in mind that beverages that you order, not included on the menu, are your own responsibility and are payable directly to the restaurant. In the case of Western-style hotel dinners, drinks are never included and must be purchased individually.

Tap water in China is NOT potable, but bottled mineral water is provided in your room and  available for sale everywhere.  We recommend that you use only bottled water for drinking.

No special vaccinations are required, but those who have traveled from an infected area before coming to China should have vaccination records available for a Health Declaration form upon arrival.   Generally speaking, Hepatitis-A shots, which safeguard against waterborne diseases, are recommended for those who travel overseas frequently. You may also contact the Center for Disease Control (C.D.C.) for the most up-to-date information.

Tipping is customary and expected by travel guides, tour bus drivers, porters and in hotels. On tours tipping $12 to $15 per person per day is customary. Of course, you may adjust up or down based on your level of satisfaction.

Arrangements for domestic air and ground transportation are included and made by the ground operator. All ground transportation, airport transfers and sightseeing will be provided via private car and guide. Travel by motor coach will be by modern air-conditioned coaches for large groups.

China is generally safe for tourists. While on your own,  you are free to explore on your own through a variety of transportation; however, we recommend the use of  taxis as they are both convenient and inexpensive.

On April 24, 2024, the MICHELIN Guide revealed the brand new list of One, Two, and Three Key hotels in the United States. In this first ever announcement of MICHELIN Keys in the United States, hotels in Atlanta, California, Chicago, Colorado, Florida, New York, and Washington DC were eligible for the distinction. This announcement of the most outstanding hotels in the country comes four years into a comprehensive refresh of our hotel selection. The MICHELIN Guide now includes over 5,000 hotels across the world, and not a single one is simply a room for the night. These are places that significantly add to your experience as a traveler, each vetted and judged excellent in five categories: architecture and interior design, quality and consistency of service, overall personality and character, value for the price, and a significant contribution to the guest experience in a particular setting. The Three Key Club in New York City

Expect: The highest luxury and impeccable design in Soho, Midtown, and the Financial District. Within the small club of Three Key hotels in the United States, four make their home in New York City. But The Fifth Avenue Hotel, from its titular 5th Avenue address just above Madison Square Park and the world’s first Shake Shack (still a literal shack, albeit one with dreamy twinkly lights and ample outdoor seating) is a jewel box whose Mary Poppins-bag-style whimsy is made all the more impressive by its position amidst NoMad’s hustle and bustle. A five-story limestone-and-brick building with past lives first as part of a socialite’s estate and then as a bank, the hotel is storied despite its newness and fresh despite its long history. Designer Martin Brudnizki has payfully pulled at the Gilded Age, Renaissance palazzo roots with his jubilant palette and rich diversity of textures—wallpapers, rugs, and prints make an eye fat from feasting.

While a stay at The Fifth Avenue Hotel is ostensibly undertaken on some level to visit and see the Big Apple proper, stepping off the premises may prove unappealing once you’ve settled in. This is a whole world, one where the colors are richer and the people more thoughtful. After check-in, you’ll first meet your around-the-clock butler outside of your room where they await with a welcome drink and warm towel. Between 5 and 7 p.m., order a martini ritual to your room. Condescend to dine at onsite Cafe Carmellini, one of the best new restaurants in New York City. Flit out to nearby Gagosian and Fotografiska for a further art fix. It’s all that you need.

Beyond an extra suitcase to accommodate all the shopping you'll do nearby, pack whatever you feel most comfortable in—a neutral suit or little black dress to compliment the surroundings, or your most playful Rachel Comey to give the interiors a run for their money.

Nestled above the 1st arrondissement’s Chopard boutique sits Paris’s new stealth-wealth gem of a hotel, the first from the Swiss fine jewelry maker owned by the Scheufele family. The watchmaking giant first bought the building, which dates back to 1723 (the roof and facades are protected historical monuments), a decade ago while it was still operating as another hotel, and subsequently embarked on a painstaking renovation and restoration project that birthed the beauty that exists today. With just 5 rooms and 10 suites, it’s a remarkably intimate affair. None looks like another, by the way—on one stay, you might lounge on the cobalt blue lounger of the modernist, Pop Art attic suite while the next sees you splayed out on the four-poster bed of double-height, quintessentially Parisian Appartement Chopard (the latter has its own hammam).

In the absence of an onsite restaurant, chef Boris Algarra slings his 24/7 menu (divided up between breakfast, day, and night) wherever the guest desires it—the library, the bedroom, you name it. And that’s saying nothing of the litany of fine dining found on the hotel’s doorstep—the neighborhood is the flâneur’s playground, with the Tulieres Gardens and prime shopping also a short jaunt away. Pack a good pair of walking shoes as Paris is, famously, best-walked from top to bottom with shopping bags weighing down either arm.

The new iteration of Kona Village, now operated by the reliably resplendent Rosewood group, ticks the boxes of design, location, and service in a way that few resorts across the Hawaiian islands have brushed the ceilings of. Senior editor Rebecca Misner dubbed the property “the Platonic ideal of the ‘Hawaiian hotel’” in her review. With 150 hale, or bungalows, dotting the 81 acres of oceanfront land, it earns its name for functioning as a sort of communal haven. The favored onsite watering hole, Shipwreck, sits within the gutted schooner of the original owner. A coconut outside a guest’s bungalow door sends the same signal that a do-not-disturb sign would at a more traditional hideaway.

As a preeminent resort, Kona Village offers everything you could ever dream of within its property line—two bars, two restaurants, a spa built into the site’s lava flow, and a beach that feels so endless in large part because there’s not much else in the vicinity. But the adventurous would be wise to call up the concierge, who can arrange excursions to the town of Waimea, as well as day trips to see the waterfalls in the North and guided hikes through hidden craters. Be sure to bring along your swimsuit, sarong, and a pair of water shoes for those excursions.

This Wisconsin hotel is among the best in the country in 2024, according to Tripadvisor

Thousands of travelers around the world ranked their preferred hotels this year, and Tripadvisor published the ranking in its latest 2024 Travelers' Choice Awards for the Best of the Best hotels.

Hotels on this list are among the top 1% based on a large volume of high reviews over a 12-month period. Out of 8 million listings, fewer than 1% achieve this ranking. And one Wisconsin hotel made the list — the Stewart Inn, a bed and breakfast based in Wausau.

The Stewart Inn was designed by George Maher , a founder of the American Arts and Craft movement and a colleague of Frank Lloyd Wright. The boutique hotel is on the southwestern edge of the Andrew Warren Historic District near the Cyrus Yawkey Museum, the Marathon County Historical Museum and Wausau's Museum of Contemporary Art.

The inn "delights with its peaceful atmosphere, beautiful rooms and gorgeous architecture," Tripadvisor's website says. "With a convenient location, exploring the surroundings is a breeze."

The tour is celebrating the band’s 2023 album of the same name, which was their first album of original material in nearly 18 years.

Billie Eilish announced the dates the world tour in support of her third album on Monday (April 29). The Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour is slated to kick off on Sept. 29 at the Centre Videotron in Quebec, Canada, and take the singer across North America through late December, with stops in Toronto, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Detroit, Newark, Boston and Pittsburgh before a three night-stint at Madison Square Garden (Oct. 16-18) and two nights at State Farm Arena in Atlanta (Nov. 2-3).

The tour will feature a number of sustainability efforts, including the continuation of Eilish’s long-running partnership with environmental nonprofit Reverb, which has so far resulted in $1 million in donations to environmental, greenhouse-gas reduction and climate-justice projects, according to a release announcing the dates. On the upcoming tour, sustainability efforts will include reducing greenhouse-gas pollution, decreasing single-use plastic waste, supporting climate action and updating concession offerings to promote plant-based food options.

Support + Feed will also continue its previous collaboration with Eilish and offer an expanded version of the Support+Feed Pledge aimed at inspiring fans to eat one plant-based meal a day for 30 days. Eilish’s fans are also encouraged to take public transportation and/or carpool to shows to reduce their carbon footprint, and to bring an empty reusable water bottle or donate to receive a custom RockNRefill Nalgene bottle they can fill up for free at water-refill stations at every venue. Eilish is also encouraging fans to fight the tremendous waste caused by fast fashion by dressing up for the gigs in thrifted, upcycled or borrowed clothes instead of buying new ones.

In an effort to keep tickets out of the hands of scalpers, the tour is using Ticketmaster’s Face Value Exchange, which will allow fans who purchase tickets for the North American tour they can’t attend to resell them to other fans at the original price; click here to find out more about this program.

The Rolling Stones setlist: Here are all the songs on their Hackney Diamonds Tour

It doesn’t matter that both Mick Jagger and Keith Richards are 80.

As long as they’re sharing a stage, the Rolling Stones will continue to defy age and energy.

The band’s 16-city stadium sprint – sponsored, appropriately, by AARP – kicked off April 28 at NRG Stadium in Houston and will play through July 17 in Santa Clara, California. In between, the Rolling Stones will visit cities including Las Vegas, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Cleveland and Chicago.

In October, the band released “Hackney Diamonds,” their first new album since 2005. For this complementary tour, Jagger, Richards and Ronnie Wood – along with durable supporting players Chuck Leavell, Darryl Jones, Matt Clifford, Karl Denson, Tim Ries, Steve Jordan (who assumed rhythm duties after the 2021 death of original drummer Charlie Watts ) and background vocalists Bernard Fowler and Chanel Haynes – shined on stage for two hours.

The 18-song set was stuffed with iconic rock anthems including “Jumpin’ Jack Flash,” “Start Me Up,” and “Miss You”, along with a smattering of new songs from “Hackney,” including the Grammy-nominated “ Angry .”

Stadiums, which the band has played for nearly 50 years, still suit their blues-splattered rock and indefatigable frontman Jagger, who still slithers effortlessly, remains an undisputed legend.
