The BEST Cafes in Korea
Cafe-hopping is one of the best things to do in Korea – and it’s a great way to engage with locals and the culture. Every day people head to cafes in order to work, study, and socialize. In many areas there are cafe streets, called garoso-gils. People will get a drink in one, stay for an hour or two, and then head to the next cafe to do the same.
Now, it’s your turn! In no particular order, here are the very best cafes in Korea!
No Words, Gyeongju
Gyeongju is my favorite place in Korea and it’s home to one of the best cafes in Korea. They focus primarily on drinks and only have small snacks to accompany. The vast majority of the options on the menu are coffee-related but they have a fantastic earl grey latte that’s my go-to.
Small, at the top of a fantastically steep set of stairs, it’s a good idea to squeeze yourself into one of the stools by the window as fast as possible. With varied “hipster” sounding music it’s a good place to study or write while people watching picnickers in the tomb park across the street.
Kakao Address: 744, Taejong-ro, Second Floor
Mute, Changwon
Of course, the main reason I know there is a great cafe in Changwon is because I lived there . There would be no reason for you to come to Changwon otherwise – it’s pretty boring. But if you’re visiting a friend or moving here yourself, there’s a great cafe for you.
Mute has a great selection of drinks and creative savory and sweet food items. I came here religiously every week to the point that they knew my order: A London Fog Latte and a Croissant-Sandwich. It’s probably one of the best cafes in Korea (outside of Seoul) to get a good sandwich.
Kakao Address: 36, Dogye-ro 4beon-gil, Uichang-gu
Percent 14-3, Daegu
Daegu is a great place to visit and perfect for cafe-hoppers. And yet, among all the great cafes this is the one I keep returning to. The setting is lovely, with several Instagram-worthy seating areas that results in something of a shuffle whenever anyone leaves.
The drinks and deserts are also fabulous. I love their cheesecake and their creative drink options kept me trying new things on every visit.
Kakao Address: 92, Seoseong-ro 14-gil, Jung-gu
BiBiBiDang, Busan – Best Cafes in Korea
I’ll be honest, if I had to choose one cafe to go to for the rest of my life, it would probably have to be here. Finding a good source of native Korean tea is rare in a cafe and this one has all the best options. For those looking for traditional, look no further. Every tea is accompanied by a traditional sweet.
But you shouldn’t stop there, the pumpkin bingsu is to die for. If you’re not one for caffeine, my friends have tried the herbal mixes and said they are great!
Also, did I mention the setting? You can expect some of the best ocean views out of stunning picture windows. Traditional seating is available with beautifully muted decor. If you want the best seats you’ll have to get there early, though – I myself never managed to snag the seats in front of the windows!
Kakao Address: 239-16, Dalmaji-gil, Haeundae-gu
eert, Seoul
I won’t neglect Seoul even though I find the overwhelming amount of posts about the city somewhat annoying. I love Seoul. But there are dozens of other amazing cities/towns/places in Korea that you should visit too! Seoul is also somewhat hard to give recommendations for.
Things in the city change rapidly. In between when I studied abroad and returned to teach English (about four years) only one cafe I had previously visited was still there. Even in the span of several months things can change (and did).
Regardless, this cafe is awesome. Combining fantastic tea with a mini-afternoon style assortment of treats all within an atmospheric setting. It is more Japanese in style, so if you’re looking for “authentic” Korean you’re better off looking at BiBiBiDang in Busan or Gyodongdawon in Jeonju.
Runner up: 티노마드 is just down the street and has a similar theme but is more Japanese-y with cute seasonal dessert accompaniments and a beautiful atmosphere.
2d Runner up: 마라보쇼콜라 If you’re not in the mood for tea, how about great chocolate? This chocolate shop serves a lovely hot chocolate and has a great second floor area to drink in.
Address: 105-1, Poeun-ro, Mapo-gu, Seoul
Jeju i cafe, Jeju
This place is right next to one of the cutest souvenir shops on the Island that isn’t marked on a map. Fresh squeezed orange juice and yuzu options are mainstay of this fresh and light cafe. It perfectly embodies the beach vacation ideals. They’re recently started serving some pasta options as well if you’re looking for something that will stick.
Kakao Address: 8, Ilchul-ro 288beon-gil, Seongsan-eup, Seogwipo-si
Gyodongdawon, Jeonju
This place is all about the tea – and only tea. They do infrequently serve small snacks but don’t bet on it. This is for becoming totally saturated with tea as they bring you an entire thermos of water that they offer to refill. That’s how strong these leaves are – and it’s good.
Based on the tea quality alone this is one of the best cafes in Korea for tea lovers. The setting may not be quite as stunning as BiBiBiBiDang but it is gorgeous. The hanok house has been beautifully complimented with live-edge wooden furniture and beautiful windows letting in the fresh air.
A runner up if you’re looking for something similar is 다화원 just down the street.
Kakao Address: 65-5, Eunhaeng-ro, Wansan-gu, Jeonju-si
손탁앤아이허, Gwangju
Gwangju is not my favorite place in Korea but it is an important one to visit if you’re interested in modern Korean history. Much of what started Korea on the path it is today is thanks to the brave people who fought for independence and democracy, facing a massacre in the process.
To lighten the mood, there is a fantastic book cafe in Gwangju. With books for everybody (a huge selection of photography books will keep even English speakers entertained) and amazing drinks you can relax on a snowy day. This is more of a “peaceful” cafe with relaxing music – think of a library you can eat in. It’s great, you should go!
Kakao Address: 8, Jebong-ro 138beon-gil, Dong-gu
내성적싸롱호심, Tongyeong
This is the cafe that made me regret not spending more time in Tongyeong. I only went twice! They import their chai mix from Australia and it’s fantastic.
You can choose from several different baked cookie options for a nice dessert to accompany whatever you choose as a drink. Their coffee and chai options are some of the best. The cafe is in a house and it has a cozy feel as a result. Large windows give you a view of the rock garden outside.
Kakao Address: 6-15, Bongsu 1-gil
풍뉴가, Daejeon – Best Cafes in Korea
If you don’t want to brave the crowds in Japan or go all the way to Damyang for bamboo forests, you can get a lovely taste right here in Daejeon. And get some fun herbal tea mixed drinks!
The combinations are weird and frequently based on traditional Korean herbal teas. They are beautiful and seriously Instagram-ready in their glass mugs with edible decorations. And they’re surprisingly delicious, especially when accompanied by one of the seasonal desserts they have on offer.
The setting is great, a beautiful bamboo forest with fun seating is just out back. If it’s too cold you can stay inside with nice views through the windows. If you like the area, be sure to check out the rest of the neighborhood as I mention in my Top Things To Do in Daejeon post!
Kakao Address: 31, Suhyang-gil, Dong-gu
Honorable Mention Best Cafes in Korea
I have now moved on from Korea to start the next chapter of my traveling adventures. But my amazing friend is still there and she is something of a cafe guru. She has approved my list above but she has some other recommendations that I was not able to try myself. Photos are courtesy of her.
책방익힘, Geoje
A book cafe that’s in her all-time top favorites due to the adorable cat that calls it home!
대곡상회, Jinju
A lovely hanok style cafe with private rooms and sand coffee.
동네산책, Mokpo
She loves book cafes and this one is also on her list. It has tons of seating options and lovely rooftop views.

2. COFFE PANACHE IN MOKPO
View this post on Instagram A post shared by 목포카페 | 커피파나쉐 전망대점 | 로스팅커피 컴퍼니 (@coffee_panache)
We discovered this amazing coffee shop while taking the ferry from Mokpo to Jeju Island . The coffee shop is located on a small island, which can be seen from the ferry. This incredible structure is located on top of the island, surrounded by the sea. So on our way back from Jeju, we decided to spend a few days in Mokpo ( full guide here if you visit Mokpo ) and visited Coffee Panache.
To get to Coffee Panache, you can drive there and cross a beautiful bridge to the island, but the best way by far is to take the incredible cable car which takes you from Mokpo harbor to Gohado Island, where Coffee Panache is located.
Mokpo Marine Cable Car is actually the longest (3.23 kilometers) and highest (155 meters from the ground) cable car in Korea ( more info here )
Coffee Panache is one of the most incredible coffee shops we’ve seen in South Korea. First of all the structure of the coffee is so special, looking a bit like a Jenga Tower . Inside the coffee shop, the view of Mokpo City, the incredible Mokpo Bridge, and the Yellow Sea all around is really stunning. Make sure to visit Coffee Panache if you ever visit Mokpo .
3. OEDO NURSERY IN GEOJE
View this post on Instagram A post shared by 거제카페_외도널서리 (@oedonursery)
Oedo Nursery is probably our favorite cafe in South Korea. First of all, it is located on the beautiful island of Geoje in the southern part of South Korea. To visit Geoje, check out our full guide here .
Oedo Nursery is located right by Gujora Beach, overlooking the sea and the surrounding islands. The view from the outdoor terrace is just incredible.
However, what’s even more amazing is the interior of Oedo Nursery. The coffee is built in a greenhouse with hundreds of plants inside. You basically feel inside a gorgeous garden with the delicious smell of coffee.
Oedo Nursery is a must-see if you visit Geoje. It was one of the highlights during our trip. We also went to Oedo Nursery at night to enjoy a dessert after our dinner in the fishing village nearby. That night we stayed outside on the terrace, just looking at the sea with the reflection of the moon. It was the perfect evening.
4. JOYANG BANGJIK IN GANGHWADO
Ganghwado is an island located near Seoul, in the North-Western part of South Korea near the border with North Korea. We recently visited this unique island ( full guide here ), and discovered one of the most incredible coffee shops in South Korea. We couldn’t believe our eyes when we entered this unique place.
It’s the kind of place that you “must see to believe”. The photos in this post can hardly describe how incredible this coffee shop is!
Joyang Bangjik is actually a very old textile factory transformed into a very cool cafe! Ganghwa was a city of textiles with more than 4,000 workers in the 70s. Founded in 1933, Joyang Textile was one of the most important factories in the region.
Like most traditional textile factories, it went bankrupt after the development of more modern machines. 1 by 1 all factories closed down and workers left Ganghwado.
However, someone had the brilliant idea to preserve Joyang Bangjik and turned this place into a fantastic work of art. As soon as you enter this place you can feel the history of Korea and the Ganghwa textile industry. Many machines and buildings remained as it is. This place is rather huge, spreading over 990㎡ ! It took us almost 1 hour to discover the whole place before we could even sit down and enjoy our coffee still amazed by the magic of this place.
5. WAVE ON IN BUSAN
View this post on Instagram A post shared by 웨이브온커피 | 부산여행, 부산카페 (@waveoncoffee_official)
If you ever come to Busan , make sure to plan enough time to visit at Wave On Coffee and chill by the sea.
Wave On is one of the most stunning coffee shops we ever visited in South Korea. We love modern architecture and Wave On is a stunning piece of architecture sitting on a cliff right by the sea.
The outdoor area is equally beautiful. We spent a few hours there, just chilling and enjoying our delicious cup of coffee. It is one of the best ways to spend a relaxing afternoon in Busan on the seafront. They have comfortable sofa beds if you even want to take a nap.
However, the best time to visit Wave On is during sunset.
If you come to Busan, you can check out this post to plan your trip, we listed the 30 best things to see in Busan.

We discovered Cafe Sann during a road trip in Winter. We actually saw people running over the peak of the mountain with their parachutes to do paragliding. So we followed them in the car and reached the peak of the mountain. And there… surprise! the gorgeous Cafe Sann overlooking the beautiful mountain range and people doing paragliding. What a great spot.
The coffee shop itself is not the most incredible in terms of design, but the location and view of paragliders is so unique, especially during winter will all the snow. Make sure to it check out if you are in the area. It’s worth the drive up the mountain on a tiny road! Trust us…

8 Cute Cafes in Seoul That You Need To Visit
Table of Contents
Home to skyscrapers, food markets and impressive palaces, there are many things to do in Seoul. However, beyond the city’s iconic landmarks lies a charming world of serene and cosy cafes.
As you walk through the streets of Seoul, you’ll come across many of them. There are so many cute cafes in Seoul, that it can be hard to choose where to go.
To help you out a little, I’ve made a list of cute cafes in Seoul that are definitely worth visiting. Read on to find out where to go for a delicious cup of coffee in the capital city.
Cute cafes in Seoul
Seoul has so many cafes that it’s difficult to know which one to visit. This list will give you an idea of cute cafes in Seoul that are really worth visiting.
Tip: In most cafes in Seoul it’s normal to order at the counter before you sit down. They will call your order when it’s ready or you’ll get a buzzer which goes off when your order is ready.
Afterwards, it’s common courtesy to bring your empty cup and tray back to the counter when you’re finished.
Kotton Seoul
This cafe is a little bit hidden between small alleyways. It took me a while to find this hidden gem and when I arrived there were lots of locals here, which is always a good sign.
You have to order before you sit down. It’s a lovely clean cafe with a restroom and air conditioning, which is pretty nice when it’s warm outside.
A coffee which I highly recommend ordering is Tauru. You have to eat the “cotton” ball inside first and then just drink the drink. Don’t mix it. That’s what the friendly owner told me.
This is one of their signature coffees and costs 7500 won at the time of writing.
If you want to visit a unique cafe in Seoul, then this is a really good choice.
Address: 17 Insadong 12-gil, Gwanhun-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, South Korea
Designhouse
This is a beautiful escape in the popular Bukchon Hanok Village . I was so happy when I stumbled upon this hidden gem. There was no one else there (except for the people that work there of course), it had air conditioning and felt very serene.
Drinks are a little more expensive (6000-8000 won), however this includes entrance to the small art gallery. This is definitely a must-visit cafe during your time in Seoul. I had a lovely elderflower lemonade here.
This cafe is not signmarked on maps. As mentioned above, it’s a little bit hidden away in Bukchon Hanok Village!
E.Chae Coffee
Another hidden gem is E Chae Coffee. This is without a doubt one of the prettiest cafes in Seoul. It’s hidden away, near to Bukchon Hanok Village, yet without the crowds.
The owner is very friendly and the place is an oasis of peace. You should really visit this place, especially if you appreciate attention for details. Their iced coffee and basque cheesecake are very tasty.
Address: 20-21, Bukchon-ro, Jongno-gu, Seoul 03059 South Korea
Cafe Comma Hapjeong
This is definitely one of my favorite cafes in Seoul. Especially the downstairs area is cool. It’s located in Hongdae and is ideal if you’re looking for a cafe to get some work done.
Most people here are very quiet and you see a lot of people working on their laptops. I even saw someone once sleeping in a chair. Their pomegranate sparkling ade drink is very refreshing.
Address: 49 Poeun-ro, Mapo-gu, Seoul, South Korea
Cheong su Dong
Cheong Su Dong is a lovely cafe worth visiting. There’s a little man made waterfall here as well, which is my favorite part of this cafe. It’s good to know that you first have to find a seat first before you can order. It’s a really beautiful and popular cafe to visit in Seoul.
Address: 223-104 Yeonnam-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul, South Korea
Greem Cafe
This cafe is iconic because of its black and white drawing interior. You may have seen it featured on Instagram or TikTok. It’s located near to Cheong su Dong, in a nice neighborhood in Hongdae.
If you want to feel like you’re in a cartoon or in a living drawing, then definitely go here.
Address: South Korea, Seoul, Mapo-gu, Seongmisan-ro, 161-10 카페 1.5층
Ver’s House
To my surprise, Ver’s House has become one of my favorite cafes in Seoul. It’s the perfect spot to chill. It’s surrounded by so many plants and somehow doesn’t feel like it’s in South Korea. They have plant based milk here and you can choose to sit inside or outside.
You first have to order at the counter, then you’ll get this round thing which will buzz when your order is ready to be picked up. The iced vanilla late with oat milk is recommended!
The drinks are a little bit expensive (6000-7000 won), but the atmosphere definitely makes up for this. Especially go here if you want to sit outside surrounded by plants and lush greenery.

Wwwmaum cafe
Bookshelves filled with Korean books, lots of beanbags and greenery. That’s how I would describe Wwwmaum cafe. It’s a lovely and peaceful cafe located in Hongdae. I know, lots of these cafes are in Hongdae, but to be honest Hongdae has a brilliant cafe scene.
Wwwmaum cafe is a wonderful place to come and relax after a day of exploring the streets of Seoul.
Personally, I’ve visited this cafe over and over again. It somehow just made me feel at home, which is pretty precious when you’re traveling alone .
There’s no sign of this cafe on Maps, so I’ll put the address of nearby Hi Jun Guesthouse down below, as it’s located 10 meters away from this guesthouse.
Address: 105 Donggyo-ro, Mapo-gu, Seoul, South Korea
In conclusion
As you can see, there are many great cafes in Seoul. The list above features some of the cutest cafes in Seoul. This gives you a good idea of where to begin your cafe journey in the capital city.
Especially Hongdae district is home to many lovely cafes, so if you want to go cafe hopping, I highly recommend visiting this area. Enjoy and explore these cute and serene cafes while you’re in Seoul!

Ploy's Little Atlas
Just another world from Ploy's view
Greylab – Seoul Cafe with Cherry Blossoms
Greylab is a cozy coffee place located in Hapjeong-dong, a next-door neighbor to Seoul’s popular hipster hangout, Hongdae. I don’t know when it happened but Greylab has become my favorite cafe that I have to visit every spring as long as I live in Seoul. When it is not spring, the cafe may appear to be one regular aesthetic coffee shop with lovely decor and trendy interior.
They have a relaxing outdoor seating area in the back. And in this very spot there are three fully-grown cherry trees which is the reason for my annual visit during spring season. Imagine yourself sipping a fine cup of tea underneath gorgeous cherry blossoms canvas, this shall suffice to make Greylab the more mention of its name. What’s more is the cafe’s outdoor space is adjacent to a terrace on the second floor of the adjoining office next door. They occasionally open the door and allow Greylab’s customers to go up and take photos with the mind-blowing fluff of cherry blossoms, the most beautiful flower backdrop I have ever seen I must say.
If you too would like to see the cherry blossoms at their prime at Greylab, go follow their Instagram account to keep up with the blooming progress. And be aware that when the flowers come, the spot will be fully packed until there no longer is the sight of the petals (even on the floor ground). You may have to wait in a very long line for photos at the terrace. And don’t forget to order what seems to be its signature beverage, ice/hot apple tea. It is delicious and no doubt is an insta-worthy kinda drink.

La Casita Cafe family ready to pass baton to new owners after nearly 40 years in Hesperia
After nearly four decades, the family behind the popular La Casita Mexican restaurant name will bid farewell to the High Desert.
Owners Armando and Delores “Lola” Compean plan to hand over the keys to their beloved La Casita Cafe in Hesperia when escrow closes on the restaurant over the next few weeks.
“After 41 years, it’s time to finally retire and focus on our family and ourselves,” Armando, 66, told the Daily Press as he welcomed customers to his restaurant on I Avenue.
“The decision to sell La Casita was a difficult one to make, but circumstances have positioned us to move on to the next chapter of our lives,” Armando said. “We’re so thankful for our wonderful employees and our loyal customers, who have been part of the La Casita family for years.”
The couple added that above all, they give “honor and glory to God,” who has sustained them since opening their restaurant in 1983.
Lola explained that after the death of her mother, Carmen, her brother, Richard, and close friend and longtime restaurant employee, Lupe Salinas, it was time to step back from the restaurant business and “reevaluate life and what’s important.”
“My grandmother, Augustina, was in her 90s and still worked at her restaurant,” Lola said. “One day, she dropped dead while sitting at table No. 1. I don’t want to be like that.”
In good hands
Armando shared that “La Casita Cafe will be in good hands,” with longtime employees and new owners, Sam, Max, and Claude Atalla, who own several other businesses, including Barstow-based Oggi’s Sports, Brewhouse and Pizza, and Los Domingos Restaurant.
“Our conversation with the new owners goes back to 2018. This has been in the works for some time,” Armando said. “They know the High Desert, the people, and that continuity is important, so the name, the employees, and the menu here will remain the same.”
The American dream
Kristen Hauptli told the Daily Press that she’s proud of her parents and everything that they’ve accomplished over the decades.
“My parents not only impacted our family, but they also changed the lives of so many of their employees,” Hauptli said. “Many of their employees were able to accomplish the American dream by owning homes and raising their children. That’s why La Casita Cafe felt so much like a family.”
Hauptli, who lives in San Juan Capistrano, said she’s sad that this chapter of her parents’ lives is closing, but excited for their future.
Some of the longstanding employees who will continue to carry the La Casita legacy include store manager Armando Salinas, who has been with La Casita for 33 years, and server Maggie Benito, who has worked for La Casita for 38 years.
Additionally, server Jose Luis "Chickies" Ayala, who has worked there for 35 years, and also server Pepe Salinas, who has worked at the restaurant for 27 years.
La Casita history
Lola explained that La Casita’s “humble beginnings” started in 1966 when her late mother, Carmen Marquez Rosales, opened “Richard’s Tacos” in the City of Industry.
After moving to Victorville, Carmen found an old building for sale on Palmdale Road, which housed a variety of bars.
Carmen purchased the building and transformed it into La Casita Mexican restaurant, which seated fewer than 40 people, her son, Freddie Rosales, told the Daily Press.
After the success of the family’s first restaurant, Carmen and her family expanded by opening La Casita Cafe on Main Street near I Avenue in Hesperia.
In 1991, La Casita Cafe relocated to the corner of Main Street and Eleventh Avenue in Hesperia before returning to its original location three years later.
Meanwhile, the Palmdale Road location expanded in 1987 when the family constructed a larger dining room. Four years later, they built a banquet room toward the rear of the building.
In 2008, Carmen and her family opened La Casita at the Lake on Spring Valley Lake Parkway in Victorville. That store was sold in 2016, with the new owner retaining the name, the family said.
In 2017, State Sen. Scott Wilk called Carmen Rosales a “determined entrepreneur” who worked hard over six decades to see her dreams come true.
On the morning of March 24, 2021, the 85-year-old Rosales died after she was involved in a three-vehicle collision at the intersection of Barton Road and Anderson Street in Loma Linda, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
Rooted in family, faith
Lola explained that the couple’s business has “always been rooted in family and faith.”
In 1953, Lola's mother married Army veteran Alfredo Rosales. The couple lived in Valinda near La Puente until they moved to Victorville to open the restaurant.
“My dad died two years after my mom opened the first La Casita,” Lola said. “It was a hard time for her, but she kept the faith and kept on working and living.”
Carmen’s other children include Ruben Rosales, who died in 1997 and Richard Rosales, who died in 2023 after working for decades at the restaurant on Palmdale Road.
“My uncle Frank was a successful entrepreneur and a man of God,” Lola said. “When he was on his deathbed in 1994, my mother and I knelt and asked him to pray his blessing and anointing on us.”
Lola believes it was God and her uncle’s prayer that laid the spiritual foundation for her family’s business success.
'We started by the grace of God and thrived by the grace of God," Lola said. "And by His grace, we will go wherever the Lord leads us."
