A Journey into Singapore's Past

Begins at The Fullerton Heritage precinct

Where the Singapore story finds its birth.

Walk in the footsteps of our forefathers through our historic precinct.

the heritage tour singapore

Like all great destinations, The Fullerton Building has a great story to tell. Standing majestically at the mouth of the Singapore River, the Fullerton Building witnessed the transformation of Singapore from a colonial outpost to a first-world metropolis.

Let our resident guide take you back in time to 1928 when the story of the Fullerton Building first began. As “Mile Zero”, from which all of Singapore was measured, the historical building had famously hosted the General Post Office – known then as the “Most Important Post Office in the East.” It was also here where Singapore pioneer leaders made decisions that steered the course of the nation, propelling Singapore into first-world status.

Discover the rich history of our newly minted National Monument and gain exclusive access to preserved areas within The Fullerton Hotel Singapore.

The tour is open to hotel and city guests at allocated time slots. To register your interest, please contact The Fullerton Hotel Singapore's Concierge at (65) 6877 8078 or [email protected].

Sail through the story of Singapore’s historic waterfront that began as a trading post in 1819 and discover how a once fledgling port city gained its renowned status in the world today.

Find yourself captivated by stories of how the forefathers of Singapore first stepped ashore on our soil via Clifford Pier. Go deeper and uncover events centred on the pier – from speedboat chases at Customs House, to the small but iconic Fullerton Waterboat House providing water supplies to big ships anchored offshore.

At the end of the walking tour, you will stand in awe of the city that has stood the test of time to arrive at where it is today.

The tour is open to hotel and city guests at allocated time slots. To register your interest, please contact The Fullerton Bay Hotel Singapore's Concierge at (65) 6597 5312 or [email protected].

With a commitment towards showcasing Singapore's rich heritage, The Fullerton Heritage has designed The Fullerton Heritage Trail Brochure to guide visitors on a walking trail - to discover firsthand the rich history and landmarks in and around the precinct and neighbouring civic district. Each of our historic buildings contains countless stories, experiences and memories of people who have lived, worked and played in this historic district.

Heritage trails in Singapore worth checking out

the heritage tour singapore

SINGAPORE - Are you bored of Covid-19 constraints and looking for something novel to do?

What about pounding the streets of Singapore to learn more about our history?

There is a variety of heritage walks and tours available, some of which are free.

You can opt for a knowledgeable guide or explore neighbourhoods on your own.

You may discover, like I did, that objects that have always been there - sitting in corners or standing in plain sight - may have cultural significance.

The massive stone sculpture on the lawn in front of the National Museum of Singapore, for instance, is not only notable for looking like dominoes played by giants. It was made by a woman sculptor, Cultural Medallion recipient Han Sai Por.

I learn about the piece, called 20 Tonnes, from heritage guide May Hui, 66, on a feminist walking trail co-organised by the Singapore Council of Women's Organisations.

There are thematic trails as well, such as those arranged by geographical precincts, or those revolving around our traditional food.

the heritage tour singapore

Be warned though. Old photographs of kampungs, where Housing Board flats now stand, are great for nostalgia. But it takes imagination to see what used to be, with only bare bones in situ. Seeing a modern pre-school on a once important historical site can be a bit of a downer.

This is where a historian raconteur comes into his own.

A guide with a zeal for research can show you how things used to be, just by telling a wonderful story. You can even close your eyes and enter a long-gone world.

Feast on celebration food, Peranakan culture

We are looking at about 30 dishes of food with slight apprehension.

Mr Tony Tan, 48, director and guide at Betel Box The Real Singapore Tours, says he has omitted eight types of fruit. But there is no need for soursop and mangosteen, which are familiar to locals, but alien to the foreigners who used to form the bulk of his pre-Covid-19 heritage tours.

the heritage tour singapore

Mr Tan is hosting five of us, all Singaporeans, on a Joo Chiat/Katong Food Walk, a heritage tour featuring celebration food and Peranakan culture that takes place at night.

As we stroll in Joo Chiat, he picks out goodies from Kim Choo Kueh Chang, a famous Peranakan emporium of rice dumplings, kueh, tidbits, rempah mixes and sweets.

We arrive at Chilli Padi Nonya Restaurant and he sets up camp for us. Dishes from the restaurant sit cheek by jowl with other food he has brought in, along the way.

the heritage tour singapore

Food tours provide an immediate sensory hit that make considerations like historical gossip seem far away.

Yes, it is mildly interesting that I am eating XO Hokkien mee from the family of the famed hawker who used to cook wearing long sleeves and a Rolex watch.

JOO CHIAT/KATONG FOOD WALK

WHERE: From Betel Box Hostel, 200 Joo Chiat Road

FEE: $100 a person

DURATION: Four hours

But I cannot be distracted from shovelling said noodles into my mouth. They are drenched in an umami-laden stock with a seam of muted fire running through - the chilli a tangy contrast to the voluptuous oysters.

Another dish of chilli crab is satisfying, if straightforward. The crabs are so fresh they should still be swimming.

I would usually be nodding in appreciation at Mr Tan's discourse about the differences between Peranakan cuisines in Penang, Melaka and Singapore, not to mention the Jawi and Chetti Peranakan families.

Instead, I seize upon his mention of kaffir lime leaves because they make the sotong, cooked in its own black ink, taste light as a cloud.

The traditional Peranakan bakwan kepiting soup is maddeningly fragrant as well.

"What is this? Why is this?" I ask myself silently like a moron, unable to identify the secret ingredients.

The dance goes on and on.

We cram down mouthfuls of ayam buah keluak, topped up with buah keluak fried rice. It is too much of a good thing, but we have sunk into depravity.

Desserts groan on another table. A funky-smelling cempedak paste is sublime, eaten simply on soursop-topped ice.

the heritage tour singapore

The silky, opulent gula melaka makes the chendol one of the best I have had. So many kueh, so little time.

The night is over. It is food I am familiar with, but presented all at once, it feels like Christmas and Chinese New Year came together this year.

Follow the tracks of famous women in Singapore

I am walking a heritage trail featuring famous women in Singapore, but the sisterhood seems to be eluding me.

My guide, Ms May Hui, 66, is taking me on Walking In The Footsteps Of Our Foremothers, a walking tour featuring 20 women and the landmarks they are associated with.

the heritage tour singapore

It is organised by the Singapore Council of Women's Organisations (SCWO) and the Singapore Women's Hall of Fame. The hall was created by SCWO to honour women of historic significance in Singapore.

We start at the SCWO building in Waterloo Street and head to Objectifs: Centre for Photography and Film, a striking yellow building a few strides away.

In 1887, Australian missionary Sophia Blackmore came to Singapore, where she lived for about 40 years, helping to found schools like Methodist Girls' School. She went to the church that stood where Objectifs is.

the heritage tour singapore

The walk also covers areas near the National Museum of Singapore and roads like Hill Street and Stamford Road.

In war hero Elizabeth Choy's case, Ms Hui relates how she and her husband were tortured by the Kempeitai, the Japanese military police, at the YMCA building, though they never betrayed the prisoners of war they aided.

While these stories of strength and grit still resonate, the buildings once associated with these women have only tenuous links with them. There is a poignant hollowness.

WALKING IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF OUR FOREMOTHERS

WHERE: From Singapore Council of Women's

Organisations, 96 Waterloo Street

FEE: $10 a person

DURATION: 11/2 hours

INFO: www.facebook.com/theSWHF

Yet, a personal connection with recent history makes all the difference.

Ms Hui takes me to the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (Nafa) campus in Bencoolen Street.

Visually disabled artist and Cultural Medallion recipient Chng Seok Tin used to study at Nafa. Even though she lost most of her eyesight in 1988, after a surgery to remove a brain abscess, she continued to work in art forms like mixed media and sculpture.

Ms Hui, who knew Ms Chng, recalls how she took the artist to the beach as requested, some time before she died of cancer last year at the age of 73.

Ms Chng had wanted to hear the sound of the sea, a detail that Ms Hui imparts, which makes me want to find out more about the artist.

Ms Hui is also skilled at evoking scenes from the past, using old photos as props, such as ones of the dhobis or Indian washermen who used to wash laundry in a stream near the National Museum.

the heritage tour singapore

The tombstone for Agnes Joaquim, who bred Singapore's first orchid hybrid and national flower Vanda Miss Joaquim, and died in 1899, still stands at the beautiful Armenian Church. Consecrated in 1836, it is Singapore's oldest Christian church.

By the end of the walk, despite limitations such as a lack of artefacts on a walking trail, my admiration of this historical sorority of women trailblazers burns brighter.

DIY heritage tour of Balestier

I am exploring Balestier on a DIY heritage trail, one of 19 such trails around Singapore which have been curated by the National Heritage Board (NHB).

the heritage tour singapore

It is easy to do - I pick a neighbourhood that sounds fetching from the NHB heritage portal (roots.sg) and download a user-friendly map on my phone.

I know little about Balestier, save that it is a bak kut teh hub and a chicken rice enclave. It is time to be educated beyond matters of the stomach, so I choose the most earnest-sounding route among those available on this heritage trail: Historical Landmarks Of Balestier.

The route begins at Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall, once the South-east Asian headquarters of Dr Sun's revolutionary alliance, the Tong Meng Hui.

the heritage tour singapore

This colonial-era villa in Tai Gin Road looks like a boutique hotel, but is really a history geek's dream.

I learn that in his early 20s, Dr Sun made a pact with three friends to overthrow imperial China.

He also won the loyalty of local pioneers like Lee Kong Chian and Tan Kah Kee. Fellow members of the Tong Meng Hui, they built their business and philanthropic empires in Singapore while longing for China to be liberated.

To show his support, Tan even cut off his queue, the long braid of hair synonymous with the Qing dynasty.

Dr Sun, whose bedtime reading included a tome on the French Revolution, became known as the father of modern China, serving as its first provisional president.

The charisma of the man seems to bounce off the walls.

the heritage tour singapore

Still, starting the journey with such fireworks is a mistake. In life, as in pop star Beyonce's concerts, opening acts have a purpose. Suffering from its star turn coming on too early, many of the landmarks on the Balestier trail pale in comparison.

I would have stumbled past some historically significant shophouses if their elaborate stucco work, full of cherubs and peacocks, had not been highlighted on the map.

I make a detour to check out Shaw Organisation's former Malay Film Productions studio, where movie stars like P. Ramlee worked during the 1950s and 1960s - golden years for Malay cinema.

the heritage tour singapore

The gate of the property is barred with a heavy, rusty chain, the kind that suggests large illegal animals are barely contained within. Privately owned, it is not open to the public.

The trouble with trying to evoke the ghosts of history, even in the agreeable form of a Golden Age superstar, is that most people do not have 3D-modelling software in their heads.

It is hard to imagine that Balestier, named after Joseph Balestier, the first American consul in Singapore, used to be a sugarcane plantation.

Similarly, the site of the former movie studio - which sounds fascinating on paper - is as appealing as a dead dodo.

But my interest revives at Goh Chor Tua Pek Kong Temple, which has a wayang or Chinese opera stage in its vicinity. Built more than 110 years ago, it is one of three surviving wayang stages in Singapore. It resembles a red, large-screen TV.

BALESTIER HERITAGE TRAIL: HISTORICAL LANDMARKS OF BALESTIER WHERE: From Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall, 12 Tai Gin Road FEE: Free

DURATION: About an hour

INFO: roots.sg/visit/trails

I pause when I pass by Loy Kee Best Chicken Rice in Balestier Road, and not because it is almost lunchtime.

Displayed behind glass is a pair of his-and-her choppers, used by the founding hawker couple to portion out slices of chicken.

Part of NHB's showcasing of local heritage, it is gimmicky, but raises a smile. You gotta love a marketing plan that involves Ah Ma and Ah Kong's kitchenware.

Alternative history of Singapore from 14th century to independence

I am at the former Government House, a bungalow atop Fort Canning Hill, feeling sorry for Sir Stamford Raffles.

the heritage tour singapore

He who founded Singapore in 1819 features, inevitably, in a new heritage tour, Foibles In Leadership: A Hackatour Of The Greats In Singapore's Past. The organisers, Journeys, a company that runs heritage tours, bills it as an alternative history of Singapore dating from the 14th century.

It is a bold claim I am not entirely convinced about. But when it comes to presenting a more nuanced understanding of history, compared with popular textbook narratives, the organisers nail it.

Raffles got some pushback last year under the glare of Singapore's bicentennial. Some commentators slammed the colonial agent as being more of an opportunistic oppressor than a visionary leader.

Revisionist readings of Raffles' role had existed before that, tilting the balance of historical credit towards Singapore's hardworking first Resident William Farquhar.

But this painstakingly researched heritage walk, which starts at Fort Canning Hill and takes in areas near National Gallery Singapore, shows me a different side of Raffles.

My guide, Journeys director Jeya Ayadurai, reads out a letter Raffles wrote to a friend after moving into the house on the hill, which was built in 1822.

He had been suffering from headaches and his doctor advises that he might feel better if he moves to a higher altitude.

Even though fun-sized Fort Canning Hill is hardly the salubrious Swiss Alps, which was stacked with sanatoriums in the 19th century, Raffles pronounces that he feels "a great difference" just two weeks after taking occupancy.

It may have been a forlornly valiant attempt to keep calm and carry on, but Raffles is haunted by death. Four of his five children died before the age of four in Bencoolen, where he is Lieutenant-Governor.

He wrote: "The tombs of the Malay kings, are, however, close at hand; and I have settled that if it is my fate to die here, I shall take my place amongst them."

The 14th-century kings of Singapore had a palace on the hill and one of them has a keramat, or shrine, named after him. Keramat Iskandar Shah is still found on Fort Canning Hill.

the heritage tour singapore

Raffles returns to England, where his wife finds him dead at home the day before his 45th birthday in 1826. This empire builder, who lived fast and died young, suffered a haemorrhage in his brain.

As my guide, Mr Ayadurai, 59, talks about Raffles, I find myself tucking in my knees and hugging them, seated on the steps that lead up to the former Government House. I feel like a child gathering with her fellows to hear his spellbinding stories.

Mr Ayadurai has another neat trick - he calls attention to details that may not loom large in historical accounts, but add greatly to the overall excitement.

We have walked down the hill near the former City Hall, now the National Gallery Singapore museum, where the official surrender of the Japanese during World War II was held on Sept 12, 1945.

The night before, Lord Louis Mountbatten, Supreme Allied Commander of South-east Asia, receives word that his Japanese counterpart, Hisaichi Terauchi, Supreme Commander of the Imperial Japanese Forces, Southern Region, has taken ill.

FOIBLES IN LEADERSHIP: A HACKATOUR OF THE GREATS IN SINGAPORE'S PAST

WHERE: From Fort Canning Hill

FEE: $58 an adult, $28 a child, subject to Covid-19 restrictions on group size

DURATION: At least two hours

INFO: www.journeys.com.sg/tosw

If I were Lord Mountbatten, I would think Terauchi was doing the skive of the century, and swear in Hokkien at the GP who gave him the MC. Lord Mountbatten sends his own physician to Terauchi, who, indeed, has been felled by a stroke.

General Seishiro Itagaki takes his place the next day and the surrender marks the end of the Japanese Occupation in South-east Asia. As Nazi Germany had surrendered earlier in May that year, the war was truly over.

It is rare to get a sense of history as a suspenseful thriller. Count me in for the next cliffhanger heritage ride.

Heritage Trails

Developed by the national heritage board.

Built in 2005, the ferry terminal replaced two longstanding wooden jetties used by boat operators and fishermen for decades. Today, many Singaporeans and visitors associate Changi with boat trips to Pulau Ubin. This practice likely began in the 19th century, with local fishermen ferrying passengers to Pulau Ubin, Pulau Tekong and other islands, as well as to parts of Johor.

Changi Heritage Trail

From stately military quarters to well-loved Changi Village, these three thematic trails showcase the landmarks of Changi and the stories of its communities. Pick a route and discover the rich and diverse heritage of Changi today!

Toa Payoh Town Park houses a 25-metre-tall Look-Out Tower conserved by the Urban Redevelopment Authority. Completed in the 1970s, the popularity of this park led HDB to set aside sizeable plots of land for parks in each public housing town that followed.

Toa Payoh Heritage Trail

Known as a pioneering Housing & Development Board (HDB) town in the 1960s, Toa Payoh was originally swampland and plantation before it drew settlers who established kampongs and various cottage industries, as well as temples and institutions. This trail brings you to these iconic landmarks of rich heritage and community interest within this model HDB town.

Block 25

Hougang Heritage Trail

Mention “Hougang” and its Teochew enclave would probably come to mind and for a goodreason. Today, Hougang’s Teochew legacy can still be seen, from road names to institutions and landmarks that were established to serve the Teochew community.

Between the 1950s and 1970s, Pasir Ris Beach was a popular seaside resort for recreational activities such as water skiing.

Pasir Ris Heritage Trail

Mention Pasir Ris, and people are likely to recall memories of seaside adventures, holiday stays in chalets and public housing flats distinguished by maritime-themed design motifs. More senior members of the public may remember the Pasir Ris Hotel, converted from a tycoon's mansion, the bucolic kampongs set amidst coconut and rubber estates, as well as early tourist attractions such as Golden Palace Holiday Resort, and Villa Saujana and Dari Laut in Kampong Loyang.

Orchard Heritage Trail

Orchard Heritage Trail

The Orchard Road area has transformed from a countryside retreat in the 1800s to the heart of Singapore’s tourism and retail scene today. Through the Orchard Heritage Trail, discover the communities, institutions, businesses and natural heritage that contribute to this area’s rich history.

Tampines Heritage Trail

Tampines Heritage Trail

Today, most Singaporeans know Tampines to be a vibrant town at the forefront of sustainable urban living. The Jubilee Walk is an eight-kilometre trail that connects the past, present and future elements of the Singapore story, from ancient Temasek to the colonial era, to nationhood, rapid urban development and beyond.

Jurong Railway

Jurong Heritage Trail

The Jurong Heritage Trail is part of the National Heritage Board’s ongoing efforts in discovering our shared heritage to document and present the history and social memories of places in Singapore. Explore the story of Jurong when it was formerly covered with plantations, and to follow its transformation into Singapore’s first industrial estate.

Colonial Terraces at Jalan Hang Jebat

Queenstown Heritage Trail

My Queenstown Heritage Trail recounts the story of Queenstown and visits the iconic landmarks which define the Queenstown skyline for the past 60 years. As the first satellite estate, the trail also tells you about the evolution of public housing in Singapore through personal stories of older residents.

Tiong Bahru Heritage Trail

Tiong Bahru Heritage Trail

Tiong Bahru Road today stretches for more than three kilometres from Redhill MRT at its western end to Outram Road on its eastern end. For most Singaporeans, Tiong Bahru is a small, charming and chic housing estate awash with good eateries and eclectic little shops. But there is much more to Tiong Bahru than meets the eye, as this heritage trail shows.

Bukit Timah Nature Reserve

Bukit Timah Heritage Trail

Most Singaporeans today would associate Bukit Timah with its eponymous hill or the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve. While the area’s natural heritage no doubt defines Bukit Timah in the public consciousness, there is nevertheless much more to this area than the lush greenery that meets the eye.

Art Deco

Balestier Heritage Trail

The Balestier precinct is named after Joseph Balestier, the first American Consul to Singapore, who owned a sugarcane plantation there. Today, the area is well-known for eateries as well as shops selling lighting equipment and bathroom goods.

Singapore River Walk

Singapore River Walk

Since 1819, when modern Singapore was founded, the Singapore River has served as an artery of international commerce that drew people from all over the region to work, trade and seek their fortunes on this island. Today, after a major clean-up that ended in 1983, the river continues to bustle with life, flowing past modern skyscrapers and historic buildings.

Ang Mo Kio Heritage Trail Banner

Ang Mo Kio Heritage Trail

Mention “heartland” and Ang Mo Kio comes to mind for many Singaporeans. Planned and developed in the 1970s, Ang Mo Kio is a quintessential Housing and Development Board (HDB) heartland with its mature neighborhoods, good hawker food, strong neighborly relationships and small businesses that have been operating since the early days of the town.

Jalan Besar Heritage Trail

Jalan Besar Heritage Trail

The Jalan Besar Heritage Trail tells a tale of two former swamps. It traces the urban development of a floodplain that once existed on the north bank of the Rochor River. It also charts the stories of the communities and cultures that sprung up around the muddy basin of Singapore’s longest waterway, the Kallang River.

Kampong Glam Heritage Trail

Kampong Glam Heritage Trail

Did you know that the stretch of Bussorah Street near Masjid Sultan was once known as Kampong Kaji (Pilgrim Village) and the stretch nearer Beach Road was Kampong Tembaga (Copper Village)? Or that Arab Street was called Jawa Koi (Java Street) by the Chinese and pookadai sadakku by the Tamils? Sultan Gate was lined with blacksmiths and Baghdad Street with blacksmiths and traders. Where a car park now stands along Kandahar Street, there was the Pondok Java which housed Javanese migrants and was famed for the Javanese theatre and arts performances it used to host.

World War 2 Trail Banner

World War 2 Heritage Trail

The Second World War came to Malaya and Singapore on 8 December 1941, more than two years after it broke out in Europe. After the Fall of Singapore on 15 February 1942, the island was renamed Syonan-To (Light of the South) and it spent the next 3 years and 7 months under the Japanese Occupation (1942–45). The war ended in the Asia-Pacific with the signing of the Instrument of Surrender in Singapore on 12 September 1945.

Yishun Sembawang Heritage Trail

Yishun-Sembawang Heritage Trail

Yishun and Sembawang share a history that started before urbanisation kicked off here in the 1970s. In 19th century maps, this entire area stretching from Seletar River to Sungei Sembawang was marked as “Seletar”. The name probably came from the Seletar River. The territories covered by the indigenous nomadic boat-dwellers known as Orang Seletar, also ranged from the Johor Straits to all the waterways here.

Beaulieu House

Sembawang Heritage Trail

Tucked away at the island’s northern end, Sembawang may be a less familiar neighbourhood compared to historic districts such as Kampong Gelam, Little India and Telok Ayer. Few realise, however, that Sembawang once occupied a central role not just in Singapore but in the British Empire, as a naval base that repaired Royal Navy warships and housed thousands of sailors from Britain’s Far East Fleet. Join us on the Sembawang Heritage Trail to discover the legacies of these communities and learn how they lived, worked and played in this ulu (“remote” in Malay) but enchanting corner of northern Singapore.

The Sepoy Lines Trail traces the history of Singapore’s Sikh community, bringing you past former barracks, the Bhai Maharaj Singh Ji Memorial and the Silat Road Sikh Temple. It’ll also take you on a visit past the former Outram Prison, first erected in the 1800s.

Tiong Bahru Heritage Trail

, 16 self-guided heritage trails to go on in Singapore

Although a target of gentrification, Tiong Bahru still holds a charm beneath its almost modern façade and indie cafes. An interesting titbit—this estate was colloquially referred to as “er nai chun” as it housed the mistresses of rich men. Check out this trail for its conserved pre-war flats that homeowners are required to apply for a clearance permit should they want to renovate; the grave of Tan Tock Seng, the pioneering batch of SERS flats, Singapore’s oldest and most famous chwee kueh stall—Jian Bo Shui Kueh opened in 1950, and the famous Tiong Bahru food market, constructed in 1945, that had resulted in the removal of two shophouses.

Toa Payoh Trail

, 16 self-guided heritage trails to go on in Singapore

World War II Trail

, 16 self-guided heritage trails to go on in Singapore

Into dark tourism, anyone? For some of us, there’s a morbid appeal in visiting visitor centres and museums linked to death and tragedy. With markers almost all across Singapore, the World War II Trail calls for a road trip. You’ll wish to cover the site of the Kranji Beach Battle, the Sook Ching Inspection Centre and the massacre sites of Changi, Punggol and Sentosa as you remember Singapore’s darkest chapter.

Heritage walks and tours at Fort Canning Park

Free of charge for a self-guided walk. $10 per person for a guided tour.

Ways to enjoy history at Fort Canning Park

Few sites in Singapore hold as much historical value as Fort Canning Park , making it the perfect place to go for enriching heritage walks. In the 14th century, it was believed to be the site of a royal palace for Malay kings while Singapore was a prosperous port.

Then in the 19th century, the park was given a new lease of life when the British landed in Singapore and set up a communication centre atop the hill.

Take an easy walk here and connect with history in any of these ways:

  • Do a self-guided walk at your own pace.
  • Join a guided group tour .

Self-guided walk

Go on self-guided walk to explore both Fort Canning's pre-colonial and colonial histories.

Ancient History Trail

Follow the Ancient History Trail which will bring you to sites and exhibitions about relics of medieval Singapore in Fort Canning Park from eras past.

View the Ancient History Trail guide (includes map) (PDF, 632MB)

Quick facts

Difficulty level : Moderate

Distance: 2km

Estimated walking time : 45 minutes

Highlights:

  • While the shrine was popularly regarded as an auspicious place for people to ask for specific favours, others avoided the hill as they believed it was haunted. Thus Fort Canning Park was previously known as the "Forbidden Hills" until Singapore was colonised.
  • Visit the Picnic Terrace, a modern-day event space but possibly the site of a royal palace many centuries ago.
  • Read about the Singapore Stone and the tale of the legendary Badang, a man so strong that he could hurl a heavy stone from Fort Canning Hill to the mouth of the Singapore River, 500m away.
  • View the heritage trees such as the Rain Tree , Terap tree and Madras Thorn tree that have spread their roots and taken decades to mature gracefully and beautify Fort Canning Park.

Colonial History Trail

Explore another phase of Singapore's rich history, this time as a British colony from the 1800s. Follow this trail to visit the colonial structures standing in the park today, and learn about the hill's transformation from a communication centre to a regular fort and then to an artillery fort.

View the Colonial History Trail guide (includes map) (PDF, 2.1MB)

  • Fort Canning Centre, originally built as army barracks.
  • The 9-pound cannon near the Fort Canning Centre.
  • Singapore's first experimental botanic garden where the British wanted to cultivate profitable spices for trade.
  • Raffles House, where Sir Stamford Raffles (the founder of modern Singapore) resided in.
  • Replica of a time ball which the British used to signal the correct time to the public.
  • Replica of a lighthouse which helped ships to identify Singapore before entering our harbour.
  • The Fort Gate built to protect Singapore against attackers approaching from the sea.
  • The old gunpowder magazine, a special building for the storage of explosive gunpowder.
  • View heritage trees such as the Earpod tree , the Kapok tree and Terap trees .
  • Look out for the ornamental Torch Ginger and Asam Gelugor at the Spice Garden.

Guided group tour: Heritage on the Hill Tour

Spend 2 hours with our guide who will narrate historical stories and highlight the changing faces of Fort Canning through the centuries, starting from the 1300s to the 1800s, 1900s and beyond.

Before Your Journeys With Us…

Here’s what you need to know before you embark on The Original Singapore Walks® …

Do I need to book in advance?

No, you can purchase tickets from our guides. However, you will need to pay in cash, exact change.

Meet your guide at the meeting point 15 minutes before your tour start time for a quick registration and cash payment (if any). In the rare event of an unusually large turn-out or a single walker, the tour goes on (sometimes with an additional guide).

Advance reservations through phone (+65 6325 1631) or email ( [email protected] ) are highly recommended for

  • Parties of 8 or more
  • Changi WWII™ – Life, Death and Courage Coach Tour

Our team will send you an email confirmation once we have secured your spots.

If you have a group of 20 or more, we strongly recommend a separate tour just for your group. Please send in your request by filling out the enquiry form at least 2 to 3 weeks ahead.

Where is the tour meeting point? Is there a hotel pick-up?

The tour meeting points are mostly at MRT station exits (above ground) or at the entrance of a museum. The meeting point varies depending on the walk or coach trail of your choice. Please refer to the individual tour descriptions for more details. Hotel pick-ups are currently not available.

How do I recognise the guide?

That would be the person waving our brochures madly in the air. Alternatively, look out for a group forming at the meeting point and the guide who is wearing a Singapore Tourism Board guide badge.

What if I don’t find the guide at the meeting point?

There are generally two scenarios where this may happen: guests sometimes end up at the wrong meeting point, or, they turn up after the scheduled tour departure time. Our guides usually wait an additional 5 minutes after the scheduled departure time in case of any latecomers. Otherwise, a guide no-show rarely happens. If in doubt, please feel free to call our hotline +65 6325 1631 .

How is payment done?

For a hassle-free experience, you are encouraged to book and pay online . Alternatively, you may make payment to the guide in cash prior to your tour.

Exact change will be much appreciated by our guides!

How long do the tours last?

The walks generally last 2.5 hours, although, depending on the interests of the walkers, they’ve been known to go up to 3 hours. The coach trails last around 4 hours, again, depending on guests’ interests and road traffic conditions.

Do the tours run as scheduled on public holidays?

No. Our scheduled tours take a break on public holidays in Singapore (we love our festivals!). Please see check our homepage or our red brochure for the exact dates. Private tours may still be arranged on Sundays and public holidays, depending on the availability of our guides.

Do you have any special discounts right now?

Check out our Promotions tab for the latest deals for our tours and attractions.

Currently, we are offering an ONLINE EXCLUSIVE , where you can get a sweet 10% off your total when you book 2 or more tours on our website (offer is valid with 2 or more DIFFERENT tours booked – we want you to discover different facets of Singapore with The Original Singapore Walks®!)

Now and then, we also present exclusive promotions through partners such as the Association of Singapore Attractions and the Singapore Tourism Board. Do look up their websites for the latest deals.

What are the tours like?

Charming, witty, illuminating and highly addictive. By foot, we will explore the many nooks and crannies that run abound in these lovely corners of Singapore and foray behind the scenes to see, hear, touch and feel things that you won’t on most other tours. We take pride and pleasure in exposing the depths, dishing out the dirty, pointing out the eccentricities and regaling you with astonishing true stories of the city-state we grew to adore. Simply go on one and you will see what we mean…

How are the War Trails by Changi Museum different from The Original Singapore Walks®?

The War Trails by Changi Museum are motorcoach-facilitated guided trails that visit selected WWII sites in Singapore. Please note that we will be running Changi WWII™ – Life, Death and Courage from 1 Apr 2018 onwards due to the closure of Changi Museum for redevelopment. This is a refreshed and enhanced version of our long-running Changi WWII™ tour . The 4-hour long coach tour explores the Occupation Experience and run every Wed & Sat (reservations recommended as seats are limited).

Will we learn anything about local festivals, celebrations and commemorations on your tours?

Definitely! During festive months, selected tours will be enhanced with festival-specific content. Learn more about our local festivals and how we celebrate them by hopping onto one of our special festive tours! Important events that have shaped our society are also emphasised during commemorative months. Follow our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/theoriginalsingaporewalks to get the latest updates!

Are there other tours apart from the scheduled ones?

Yes, we have a whole gamut of tours available for private bookings. Based on our research team’s accumulated knowledge of local history, military history, the arts, religion and culture, Journeys is able to tailor make tour programmes and packages according to various special interests. Our forte lies in programmes which require educational and professional focus and content. Simply drop us a line at +65 63251631 or send in your details by filling out the enquiry form at least 2 to 3 weeks ahead. For programmes requiring a full suite of destination services, visit www.journeys.com.sg/tours-and-services

What if it rains?

As long as guests are game, our promise is to run our tours regardless of rain or shine. Guests are advised to wear comfortable, weather-resistant footwear and bring along a cap, umbrella or poncho. Much of the walks take place at sheltered walkways and buildings, which our guides keep to in the event of rain. Coach trails are hardly affected as sites can be viewed from within the comfort of the coach vehicle if necessary.

We reserve the right to avoid touring sites due to potential safety hazards under certain weather conditions, such as the open-field Kranji War Graves during a lightning storm.

Is photography / video-recording allowed on the tours?

In protection of the intellectual copyright that goes into the tours, note-taking and any forms of video and audio recording are not allowed on the tours. The interesting stories that we share with you are the result of painstaking research over many years, so do show your appreciation by listening with attentive ears, open hearts and obedient hands! By the way, photography is allowed but not in such excess that it disrupts the tour.

How should I dress to walk under the local climate?

Dress comfortably, preferably wearing a cap and comfy shoes. Bring along sunglasses, an umbrella or poncho, and a bottle of water. When all else fails, put on a big grin and face it like a real globe trekker! (Note: Walkers considering the Sultans of Spice™ tour should remember to dress modestly – sleeved top and full-length skirt or pants – in view of a Mosque visit during the walk.)

Will there be a problem having infants, elderly guests and guests in wheel-chair on the tours?

Most walks (except Red Clogs Down the Five Foot Way™ that goes to Ann Siang Hill via long ramps or stairs and Of Graves, Guns & Battles™ that is conducted on Fort Canning Hill with several flights of steps) are on level ground and we maintain a comfortable walking pace throughout.

We put in every effort to make the tours as convenient to all as possible. The walking routes are planned to include sheltered stops, if not stops that allow walkers to enjoy a short sit-down while the guide shares with the group.

All guests are urged to be mindful of personal safety while crossing roads, which is hard to avoid while walking around an urbanised city. Guests who rely on wheel-chair to get around may require a considerable level of support embarking on / disembarking from the tour buses used for War Trails by Changi Museum.

Scottie Scheffler makes remarkable look routine, wins RBC Heritage comfortably

Change Text Size

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – Scottie Scheffler wasn’t supposed to win the RBC Heritage.

Scheffler did it anyway, and no other outcome seemed plausible after two holes of the final round. Generational superstars make the remarkable look routine, like it was always destined to happen, but make no mistake, that’s not normal, no matter how Scheffler made it appear.

The world No. 1 looked at ease as he fired a final-round 68 to win the RBC Heritage by three shots. He entered the fourth round up by one, but after a miraculous eagle chip-in on No. 2 that Scheffler made look mundane, it was about over. The final 16 holes were a formality, a slow coronation for King Scheffler that thunderstorms pushed to Monday. Scheffler played his final three holes Monday morning, capping it with a meaningless bogey on 18.

Scottie Scheffler's chip-in eagle is the Shot of the Day

“We've seen people do this over the years as far as excellence for time, over a little bit of time,” Max Homa said. “His seems to be sustained a bit longer than I can remember from a lot of people. It's not utterly shocking what he does. He just does it over and over and over again.

“That's amazing. … He almost makes it seem very realistic that we should do that.”

Homa’s quote wasn’t from Sunday. He said it Wednesday, less than 24 hours before the tournament began, and that assessment is even more true now than it was then.

Scheffler made two bogeys or worse all week – the first was a double bogey on the third hole of his first round. The second came on the 72nd hole. In between, it was flawless golf. Scheffler has won four of his last five starts. He’s won 10 times on TOUR in his last 50 starts. He’s lost to only one golfer since the start of March: Stephan Jaeger at the Texas Children’s Houston Open.

Top players spent the early part of the week gawking at Scheffler’s success and admitting there was a gap between them and him. Still, there’s supposed to be a letdown after a win, especially a major championship. It’s a mentally taxing and draining experience. The stress and energy of contending can wear down even the best, and Scheffler is a meticulous preparer, treating practice rounds with the intentionality if not quite the intensity of a final round.

Scottie Scheffler news conference after winning at RBC Heritage

He showed up to Harbour Town Golf Links for the first time Wednesday, taking the early part of the week to celebrate his Masters win and recharge back home. He didn’t see the course’s front nine until he played the first round. He admitted one eye was at home in Dallas, where his wife Meredith draws closer and closer to giving birth to their first child. He was prepared to walk off the course at any moment if she went into labor. That was the field’s only hope, as it turns out.

The quick turnaround and shortened practice time led to a sluggish start as Scheffler was even for his first 15 holes Thursday. Although he birdied Nos. 16 and 17 for a 2-under 69, he was already six shots behind after Round 1. His caddie, Ted Scott, had noticed some fatigue.

The great ones, though, do not panic, comforted by the knowledge that over time their stuff is superior and will win out. Scheffler would never say such a thing (too brash), but his clubs say it for him. Exhibit A: He shot a 6-under 65 on Friday, and that night the deficit was just three. Then he shot 63 on Saturday to leave little doubt: He was going to win again.

“He’s a physical specimen, I mean honestly he is,” Scott said. “He’s in incredible shape and you have to be to have mental fortitude. You have to get your body in physical shape so you can be mentally in it.”

Mentally, Scheffler said he’s never been in a better place on the golf course.

Scottie Scheffler’s Round 4 highlights From RBC Heritage

“I look back to Bay Hill, and I got off to some poor starts there, especially on the greens,” he said. “I'm just proud of how quickly I've been kind of fighting back from those little mistakes throughout the round and handling the surprises and stuff when it doesn't really go as planned. I think I've become better at managing that.”

A prime example came as the darkness descended Sunday night. Standing in the middle of the fairway on the par-5 15th, Scheffler duck hooked a 4-iron into the water. He was shocked. The swing was good; the strike was solid. But there was mud on the ball that he didn’t see.

Still up by five, Scheffler had plenty of breathing room, but he didn’t want to drop a shot. He slung a wedge around the tall trees guarding the hole and buried the 11-foot par putt despite having the option to wait and putt it in the morning, as his playing partner, Sepp Straka, did.

“The level of satisfaction of something like that is pretty high … to keep myself in position and not really give the guys behind me too much hope,” Scheffler said.

That mental strength is driven partly by on-course performance. Scheffler has regained confidence on the greens after switching to a mallet putter. That helps. But it’s also bred from his consistent cadence off the course. After pouring in eight birdies on Saturday, seven of which came from inside 12 feet, Scheffler did what he often does on the road. He went back to the rental house with frequent TOUR roommate and best friend Sam Burns and watched a movie. Tom Kim stopped by, as he had a few other times during the week. The routine was the same.

Burns, who has known Scheffler since their junior golf days, couldn’t sense a shift in Scheffler at any point during the week. Other than his late arrival, nothing was different.

“Just his normal self, pretty laid back,” Burns said.

Burns drew parallels to Scheffler’s golf, which hasn’t changed much over the years. The ability to dominate was always there.

“He's playing incredible golf,” Burns said. “He has a ton of confidence and he's also really good. It's a good combo. You have those three things working together and then you get what you got. He's the best in the world by a long way.”

Scheffler admitted he is starting to realize his stature is changing, although it still catches him off guard. Large crowds packed in to watch him tee off on Saturday. When he reached the first green, he looked back at those same bleachers a few hundred yards away. They were empty, even with the final five groups still to tee off.

“It was really interesting,” he said, still seeming a bit surprised. “It felt to me like the crowd was coming with me (Saturday), and there was definitely a lot of cheers out there.”

Scottie Scheffler closes out 72nd hole to cement 10th win at RBC Heritage

It’s new territory for the Texan. He has occupied the top spot in the world ranking for the last 48 weeks, but the general public seldom treated him like a sports idol. His understated personality, as genuine as it is, did not attract the masses, and he has actively avoided the spotlight. But his dominance is the draw now. The crowds are bigger and the cheers are louder as the golf world eagerly watches Scheffler make history, everyone wondering: How long can he keep it going?

“People like to see something special and they’re seeing it,” Scott said. “It’s easy to get behind a person like him, he’s easier to cheer for.”

Woods was the last player to win four times in five starts, back in 2008. Since 1983, Only David Duval has needed fewer starts to get from win No. 1 to win No. 10. Scheffler’s final-round 68 was his 40th consecutive round of par or better. He’s outperformed the field average in 36 of those rounds. Fans flock to dominance. It’s happening in the women’s game, with Nelly Korda at five straight wins and counting. It’s here for Scheffler as well.

Maybe things will change, as Scheffler is about to become a dad, knocking golf further down his list of priorities. He wants to be a better parent than he is a golfer, and perhaps that will take time away from his practice and preparation. Maybe then, he will fall off.

Don’t hold your breath.

“I grew up watching the end of Tiger,” Theegala said Saturday night. “Got to see Rory (McIlroy), DJ (Dustin Johnson), Jordan (Spieth), like all these guys kind of dominate for a period of time, and I was like, we could be in the midst of something really, really special.”

It was as if Theegala knew what was coming, and maybe he did. Maybe, deep down, we all did.

Scottie Scheffler spent an extra night in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, which typically wouldn’t be such a drag if not for his wife Meredith being pregnant back home in Dallas and awaiting the couple’s first child later this month.

But Mother Nature had other plans, forcing Scheffler to return to Harbour Town Golf Links on Monday morning to play his final three holes of the 2024 RBC Heritage and wrap up his fourth PGA Tour title in his past five starts.

One week and one day after Scheffler slipped into the famed Green Jacket awarded to the Masters champ for the second time in three years, the 27-year-old Texan added another colorful jacket – this time in trademark Tartan – to his closet and became the first reigning Masters champion to win the RBC Heritage since Bernhard Langer in 1985.

Scheffler, who was 4-under through 15 holes in the final round and 20-under overall when play was suspended due to darkness on Sunday, made two pars and a finishing bogey and signed for a 3-under 68 on Monday, three shots better than Sahith Theegala (68) and four better than reigning U.S. Open champion Wyndham Clark (65) and past FedEx Cup champion Patrick Cantlay (68). Scheffler banked another $3.6 million to surpass $18 million in earnings this season – and it’s still April.

“I didn’t show up here just to have some sort of ceremony and have people tell me congratulations,” said Scheffler of avoiding a post-Masters victory hangover. “I came here with a purpose.”

CBS Sports roving reporter Colt Knost, who grew up with Scheffler following him around Dallas’s Royal Oaks Golf Club, already has one of the best nicknames in golf: The Big Gravy. But he may have earned another one – Knost-radamus – for a prediction seemingly as accurate as those of the 16 th century French astrologer Nostradamus. In February 2022, when Scheffler won his first Tour title at the WM Phoenix Open, Knost proclaimed him to be “a worldbeater,” and added, “Now that he’s got that first one, I think the floodgates are going to open for him.”

Scheffler’s latest triumph is his 10 th career title, the first player to win that many times (or more) in three seasons since Dustin Johnson did so between 2015-16 and 2017-18. There’s no indication that this flood of success for the world No. 1 will stop any time soon. Did Knost imagine Scheffler would dominate on the PGA Tour? “I really did,” he said. “He never plays badly and he’s one of the most competitive people I’ve ever met. He will never just go through the motions.”

Theegala, who recalled playing against Scheffler for the first time in the Starburst Junior Golf Classic at Waco, Texas, didn’t remember ever beating Scheffler, who is a year older than him, in a single junior tournament. Competing with Scheffler, who leads the Tour in 30 statistical categories this season, hasn’t gotten any easier lately. “It’s pretty epic,” Theegala said of Scheffler, who has shot even par or better in all 40 rounds this season and became the first player to win four times in five starts since Tiger Woods in 2007-08. “I was talking to Carl, my caddie, walking to 15 tee box. I was like, I grew up watching the end of Tiger, got to see Rory, DJ, Jordan, like all these guys kind of dominate for a period of time, and I was like, we could be in the midst of something really, really special.”

Some observers suggested that Scheffler would skip the RBC Heritage but Scheffler said he never wavered in his commitment to the tournament. After winning the Masters, Scheffler flew home to Dallas to be with Meredith and didn’t show up to Hilton Head until Tuesday. He played only a nine-hole practice round on Wednesday and spotted much of the field a head start, shanking a bunker shot at his third hole in the first round, making double bogey and needing two late birdies to post 69. He trailed by six and complained of fatigue. But after recharging his batteries, he didn’t make a single bogey or worse until the 72nd hole of the tournament, and even in that case Scheffler said he was counting that one as a par as he played the smart shots with a comfortable lead. He stormed back with a 65 on Friday and was lurking three back before reminding everyone who is boss with a bogey-free 63 to claim a one-stroke lead.

In the final round, Scheffler laid down the hammer early, chipping in at the par-5 second hole from 53 feet for eagle. His bump-and-run, executed to perfection, marked his 11 th hole-out of the season. He tacked on a birdie at the par-5 fifth and strung together six consecutive pars before the horn blew. When play resumed he wedged to 6 feet for another birdie at 13. When he made his lone blunder, pull-hooking a 4-iron into the water due to mud on his ball at the par-5 15th, he took a penalty drop and carved a beautiful shot to 11 feet. Darkness had fallen and he could’ve wait until Monday to strike the par putt but he opted to play on and sank it for good measure. While that snapped a streak of 53 consecutive holes without recording a score of more than a four on his card, dating to the 15 th hole in his first round, he pumped his fist with glee for keeping a clean card (to that point).

“I felt like I was due for one to drop,” said Scheffler, whose closing bogey gave him a winning total 19-under 265. “So I figured might as well hit it now.”

Clark mounted an early charge, making an eagle and six birdies in his first 11 holes to inch within a stroke of the lead. But his effort to run down Scheffler was spoiled at the 12 th hole when Clark tried to punch between trees. His ball struck one of them squarely and ricocheted out of bounds. He made double bogey.

“It was kind of fun for a little bit,” said Clark, who improved to a career-best ranking of No. 3 in the world. “Seemed like maybe we had a chance to do something crazy.”

Only Mother Nature could prolong Scheffler’s victory another day. Play was suspended due to inclement weather at 4:28 p.m. ET, for two hours and 32 minutes. The delay meant they ran out of daylight.

But on Monday, Scheffler capped off winning for the fourth time this year, all of them Signature events. He finished tied for second in the only tournament he did not win during his scorching run. For the week, he topped the field of 69 in Strokes Gained: Off the Tee, SG: Tee to Green, SG: Approach the Green and scrambling.

“We’re watching greatness right now,” CBS’s Jim Nantz said. “It doesn’t happen all the time, but it sure is fun when you find yourself witnessing something like this.

Nantz’s NFL broadcast partner, former Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo, who played in the Invited Celebrity Classic on PGA Tour Champions last week, estimated he’s played around 500 rounds with Scheffler and said he’s never failed to break 70.

“Which is insane,” said Romo who played with him the week before the Masters at Brook Hollow, a Dallas club. “I have not seen a guy hit a golf ball like this since Tiger back in the 2000s when I played with him, the way he was striking the ball, the compression, the trajectory, the spin rate. It was impressive, and I was like, ‘He ain’t losing that tournament.’ ”

No one stopped him at the RBC Heritage either. Could Scheffler be on his way to a season for the record books? That may depend whether history repeats itself — all 10 of his wins have come in the months of February, March and April. So, time will tell if Scheffler can continue to dominate when the calendar flips to May – just don’t bet against the floodgates closing any time soon.

The world’s top-ranked golfer is dominating the PGA Tour. Scottie Scheffler won the RBC Heritage at Harbour Town Monday morning following a weather delay and restart late Sunday—his fourth win in his last five starts. He added a tartan plaid jacket to his second green jacket at The Masters , which followed wins at The Players Championship and Arnold Palmer Invitational .

Scheffler carded an 8 under par 63 on Saturday to take a 1-stroke lead over Sepp Straka and 2 strokes ahead of his final round playing partner at The Masters, Collin Morikwa. Both those players shot a 1 over par 72 in the final round to fall back.

Scheffler entered Sunday’s final round as the -165 favorite on FanDuel Sportsbook to win the tournament with Straka and Morikawa both +650 and Masters runner-up Ludvig Aberg +1100 sitting 3 shots behind. Scottie was +450 to win at the start of the RBC Heritage .

Golf’s 27-year-old superstar was 3 under par through 11 holes Sunday and 19 under par with a 4-shot lead over six players when play was suspended before resuming 2 1/2 hours later at 7 p.m. ET. Scheffler played three more holes and took a 5-stroke lead into Sunday evening as play was suspended for darkness.

Early Monday he finished off the $20 million signature event with a 3-shot victory at 19 under par to earn another $3.6 million and take his season total to over $18 million. His bogey on the 18th hole ended a streak of 68 consecutive holes at par or better. Sahith Theegala finished second while Patrick Cantlay and Wyndham Clark T3 and Justin Thomas part of a 4-way tie for fifth.

Justin Ray, golf Lead Data Analyst, added a number of posts on X to show Scheffler’s run of dominance. Beyond Scottie being the last player since Tiger Woods in 2008 to win four times in a five-start stretch on the PGA Tour, this post about Scheffler holding the lead following a round 31 times on Tour the past three seasons speaks to Scottie’s spectacular play and dominance. The next closest player to have led or co-led following a round is 16 times.

Scheffler ramains the No. 1 ranked player in the Official World Golf Rankings for the 49th consecutive week. His win at Harbour Town was also the 10th of his career on Tour. It took him 51 tournaments to win his 10th PGA Tour title following his first win. Tiger Woods did it in 59 events with David Duval the fastest from wins 1 to 10 at 33 starts.

Scheffler’s strokes gained stats are simply staggering. Scheffler ranks No. 1 in SG: Total, Tee to Green, Approach, No. 2 Off the Tee and top-10 Around the Green. He’s continued to win despite ranking outside the top 150 in SG: Putting. Scheffler gained more than a stroke both off the tee and on approach shots in his first three rounds at Harbour Town. He has done this in 27.2% of his rounds over the last three seasons. The rest of the PGA Tour has done it 4.7% of the time.

Scheffler then finished off another victory with a strong performance on Sunday at Harbour Town that included this chip-in for eagle from 53 feet off the front right short rough on the Par 5 at hole No. 2.

He’s now played 40 rounds in 2024 and has yet to shoot a round over par. It’s 44 in a row dating back to last year’s Tour Championship in August. Tiger Woods currently holds the Tour record at 52 rounds shooting par or better, which he set during the 2000-01 season.

Scheffler’s desire to win and determination to be the best is shining through despite any pressure that may mount. He’s nearly locked up 2024 PGA Tour Player of the Year honors before the end of April, and commented on his play and performances following rounds 3 and 4 while dealing with any added pressure.

Internally, do you feel less pressure compared to a few months ago when you're out there playing?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: It's tough to answer. I mean, I talked about it a bit at the end of last week. I really love winning, and I don't really like losing at all. It's one of those things where I try to manage the expectations of myself, kind of get that stuff out of the way and then go out there and compete.

Scheffler also added 700 FedEx Cup Playoffs Points to his total by winning the Signature Event at the RBC Heritage. He tops the points list with 3,915 - more than double Wyndham Clark (1,892) with Xander Schauffele, Ludvig Aberg and Sahith Theegala next at more than 1,500 points.

Scheffler is scheduled to compete in the Wells Fargo Championship May 9-12 at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, NC - another $20 million Signature Event. He should be a first-time father by then with wife Meredith expecting their child very soon.

“I definitely will enjoy the birth of my first child, and my priorities will change very soon, so golf will be fourth in line, but I still love competing,” he said last Sunday in the Butler Cabin at The Masters .

He competed at the highest level again without a letdown to win the RBC Heritage. Scheffler will enter the next major as the +450 favorite at the PGA Championship May 16-19 at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, KY. FanDuel Sportsbook also has Scheffler at +6500 odds to win the Grand Slam and all four majors this year.

Scottie Scheffler is showing no signs of letdown and fans and bettors continue to support him despite ultra-low odds to win not seen since Tiger Wood’s dominance.

You can bet on it.
