The Starships of the Dominion War

"Let’s break down the starship classes that the Klingons, Romulans, Dominion, Cardassians, and Breen brought to the fight."

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

StarTrek.com

A two-year period of open hostilities that ravaged the Alpha Quadrant, the Dominion War saw the Federation Alliance (United Federation of Planets, Klingon Empire, Romulan Star Empire) attempt to hold off the combined forces of the Dominion, Cardassian Union, and Breen Confederacy. Last year, I explored the vessels that made up the bulk of the Federation’s 24th century fleet , but what about the armadas fielded by the other major powers involved in the Dominion War? Let’s break down the starship classes that the Klingons, Romulans, Dominion, Cardassians, and Breen brought to the fight.

12. The Bajoran Fleet

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

Before we dive into the larger factions, we need to acknowledge the small-yet-courageous Bajoran flotilla that established a blockade around Derna. While the Romulans and Bajorans fought for the same side, the Bajoran Provisional Government objected to the installation of plasma torpedoes at a Romulan hospital on the moon’s surface. Led by Colonel Kira aboard an interceptor, the Bajoran Militia won the standoff without firing a shot when it proved able to convince Starfleet’s Admiral Ross that they would not allow an armed Romulan base in their star system.

11. Klingon Bird-of-Prey

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

The backbone of the Klingon Empire’s might, the Bird-of-Prey and its variants could be spotted in almost every large-scale battle against the Dominion. General Martok’s flagship, the I .K.S. Rotarran , stood by the U.S.S. Defiant during the Second Battle of Deep Space 9 , the engagement that acted as the war’s opening salvo. The Rotarran proudly served throughout the rest of the conflict. Martok also enlisted five agile Birds-of-Prey to participate in his cavalry-like raid behind Dominion lines in “Once More Unto the Breach.” Sturdy and reliable, many Birds-of-Prey were nonetheless lost during the increasingly brutal clashes with the Dominion.

10. Klingon Vor’cha-class

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

Originally designed to transport the Klingon chancellor, the Vor’cha-class cruiser soon became another regular staple in the Empire’s fleet. With the Dominion in control of Deep Space 9 and Starfleet outnumbered almost two-to-one, Operation Return seemed as if it might turn into a significant Federation defeat… until a wave of Vor’chas arrived to break the Dominion lines and allow the Defiant to continue on its mission to retake the former Cardassian mining station. Following this victory, these cruisers often patrolled near the Federation starbase. Perhaps most importantly, these ships participated in the Federation Alliance’s invasion of Dominion-controlled territory, including the Chin’toka and Cardassian systems.

9. Klingon K’t’inga-class

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

Prior to the Dominion War, the Jem’Hadar disabled the K’t’inga-class I.K.S. B’Moth and tried luring the Rotarran into a trap, but Martok managed to outwit his foes and rescue the surviving crew members. An older design, the K’t’inga-class still stood as a capable warship in the late 24th century and was assigned to the fleet that destroyed the Dominion shipyards at Torros III during the Second Battle of Deep Space 9 . Much like the more modern Vor’cha-class, these cruisers also engaged the enemy as the Federation Alliance advanced on Chin’toka and surrounded Cardassia Prime in the final days of the conflict.

8. Romulan Shuttle

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

This small ship played a substantial role in the war, as it brought Senator Vreenak to his clandestine meeting with Captain Sisko. The fraudulent evidence produced by Deep Space 9 ’s commanding officer failed to convince the Romulan that the Dominion was planning to attack the Star Empire, but unbeknownst to Sisko, Elim Garak planted an explosive device aboard the shuttle. The resulting detonation killed the senator on his way back to Romulus, leaving the Romulan Senate with the notion that the Dominion had orchestrated Vreenak’s murder. This belief prompted Romulus’s entry into the war, a pivotal movement that gave the Federation and Klingon forces a powerful new ally.

7. Romulan D’deridex-class

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

A Tal Shiar task force consisting of five of these massive warbirds collaborated with an Obsidian Order fleet in an attempt to wipe out the Founders prior to the war, but the Dominion had infiltrated their unit and eradicated the intelligence service vessels. As with other Romulan starships and their Klingon counterparts, the D’deridex-class had the ability to cloak itself, although the tactic was not always successful against the Dominion’s advanced sensors. The warbirds guarded key assets, including Deep Space 9 and Romulus itself. The Romulan convoy that attempted to run the Bajoran blockade at Derna was made up of D’deridex-class vessels. While bloodshed was avoided on that mission, many other warbirds were wiped out during the march on Chin’toka and Cardassia.

6. Cardassian Galor-class

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

First seen in The Next Generation , the Cardassian Galor-class warships served alongside their Dominion allies during the attack on Deep Space 9 . Numerous vessels were stationed at the starbase while it was occupied by the Dominion, and many others confronted the Federation fleet when it recaptured DS9 during Operation Return. Following that defeat, Galor-class ships were seen patrolling close to Dominion facilities. The Cardassians initially held the line with the Dominion and Breen vessels during the Federation Alliance’s invasion of their home territory. However, inspired by Damar’s rebellion, the Galor-class warships switched sides mid-battle and joined up with the combined Federation, Klingon, and Romulan armada at the Battle of Cardassia.

5. Cardassian Hideki-class

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

Smaller than their Galor-class relatives, these Cardassian patrol ships supported the Dominion forces in both victory (Second Battle of Deep Space 9 ) and defeat (Operation Return and the Battle of Cardassia). The class’s most prominent contribution to the war effort actually came in service to the Cardassian Liberation Front, as a shuttle variant was procured by the resistance movement and used to take Colonel Kira, Odo, Damar, and Garak to a Dominion repair facility. While there, the group stole an experimental Jem’Hadar fighter that became vital to finding a way to counteract the Breen’s energy dampening weapon.

4. Breen Warship

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

Speaking of the mysterious Breen, their species entered into the Dominion War in its final stages and made an immediate impact. A Breen vessel captured Worf and Ezri Dax as a gift for the Female Changeling, but even more importantly, their warships were equipped with the aforementioned energy dampening weapon. When deployed against the Dominion’s foes at the Second Battle of Chin’toka, this weapon disabled key systems on nearly all of the ships in the Federation Alliance fleet, laying the foundation for an overwhelming Dominion win. The Alliance managed to develop a way to neutralize this weapon’s effect on their starships, yet the Breen continued to pose a threat up to and including the Battle of Cardassia.

3. Jem’Hadar Fighter

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

The Dominion fighters made a name for themselves in the Alpha Quadrant when three ships took down the Galaxy-class U.S.S. Odyssey , and their bug-like profiles plagued the Federation in every encounter. The large influx of these vessels that came through the Bajoran wormhole convinced Starfleet Command to mine the aperture, an action that resulted in the Dominion’s decision to fully ignite hostilities with the Federation. Swarms of these fighters were built to control the Dominion’s ever-expanding foothold in local space, and they wreaked havoc on enemy craft in battle after battle. Captured prior to the war, one Jem’Hadar fighter was used by Captain Sisko to eliminate a ketracel-white resupply depot in an effort to create a shortage of the drug.

2. Dominion Battle Cruiser

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

These capital ships led the Dominion and Cardassian fleet in triumph at the Second Battle of Deep Space 9 , but they did not succeed in holding the station for very long. Despite a numerical advantage, these ships could not prevent the Defiant from getting through their lines during the chaos of Operation Return. The Federation ship arrived at DS9 alone and entered the wormhole, only to discover thousands of Dominion battle cruisers and fighters on their way to the Alpha Quadrant. Fortunately, there was an intervention undertaken by the wormhole aliens, who transported the entire armada to an unknown destination, preventing these reinforcements from joining the war and tipping the scales even further in the Dominion’s favor.

1. Dominion Battleship

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

Originally detected by the Defiant-class U.S.S. Valiant , the gargantuan Dominion battleship was three times as powerful as a Galaxy-class explorer. The Valiant ’s young crew of Red Squad cadets thought they had found a weakness that would permit them to vanquish the battleship, a fatal mistake that ended up killing almost all of the Valiant ’s complement. The Dominion demonstrated its formidable construction skills and produced even more battleships, entering them into regular service by the Battle of Cardassia. These vessels were last seen orbiting Cardassia Prime, preparing to defend the planet from the Federation Alliance and fight to the very last Jem’Hadar soldier.

Jarok Alliance Carrier (T6)

The Jarok Alliance Carrier represents the latest in the Alliance shipyards' attempts to marry the distinct styles of design and engineering from its primary member factions. The results of this particular design project - led primarily by Romulan Republic engineers - speak for themselves in terms of the role the ship is intended to play in the Alliance's fleets. Its surprising mobility, enormous sensor arrays, and massive hangar capacity place it squarely into a role as a mobile research station - a vessel that is equally capable of leading defensive fleets from the forefront, and of supporting scientific pursuits and dangerous exploration missions.

This ship features an Ensign Science / Command Specialist Bridge Officer Seat, and a Lt. Commander Universal / Temporal Operative Specialist Bridge Officer Seat.

Console – Universal – Sensor Suspension Burst

This sophisticated suite of sensor bafflers is meant to mask the energy signature of smaller vessels across a wide expanse of the battlefield. Activation will cause all hangar pets and other summoned allies to be untargetable by enemies within 10km of them, allowing them ample opportunity to line up critical hits on unprotected components. The initial burst of this activation also includes coordination protocols that will immediately reset the hangar bay launch cooldowns of your own vessel and other allied starships with hangar bays.

This console also provides a passive bonus to Critical Hit Chance and Auxiliary Subsystem Power.

This Console Mod can be equipped on any starship, and can be fit in any console slot. You may only equip one of these mods on any single ship.

Starship Trait – Backup Shield Batteries

Activating any Shield Drain or Energy Drain Bridge Officer ability will add a Charge to your starship, up to a maximum of once per 15 seconds. Whenever a Shield Facing is depleted, it will immediately be restored to full capacity, and consume one Charge. Each Charge has no maximum duration, but only four Charges may be stored.

Overview [ | ]

The Allied Cooperative Starship Development Board (ACSDB) is excited to announce their first vessel with unified design philosophies. While the ACSDB has been involved in the later design states of many new starship designs, this is their first jointly-designed starship built from the ground up. Its launch is a cause to celebrate - especially a starship such as this.

The Khitomer -class Alliance Battlecruiser has performed exceptionally in all of its trials, with its command and coordination abilities noted as exceptionally helpful in larger fleet actions. Its staying power and offensive capabilities in combat have clearly demonstrated that the cruiser and battleship expertise that went into the ship’s design has paid off well. Alliance engineers have noted that the success this design has achieved so far makes them optimistic for a unified future.

Star trek online introduces new alliance hybrid ship, picard romulan goodies, and lots of klingon content.

It's a busy time in the Star Trek Online universe, with their ongoing Year of the Klingon content role outs bringing more established on-screen characters into the game, new Picard inspired goodies, and always more ships. Continue below for all the latest.

First up, to mark the 11th anniversary of the game the second cross-species Alliance ship is joining the game (following last year's Federation/Klingon Khitomer class ). The new Temer class raider is meant to be a Romulan/Klingon hyrbrid design, although the colours and escape pods also suggest Starfleet influences to me.

star trek alliance ships

The Allied Cooperative Starship Development Board (ACSDB) is excited to announce their second vessel with unified design philosophies. Due to its nature, it draws heavily on the expertise of the Romulan Republic and Klingon Empire, a collaboration that continues to bode well for the Khitomer Alliance’s future. The Alliance Temer Raider is a unique starship – fitting command and control capabilities into a compact, lightweight shell. In order to ensure it survives to coordinate the battle, it features high maneuverability, an Enhanced Battle Cloaking Device, and a weapons layout with an emphasis on longer-ranged attacks. In trials, it’s been shown to exceed at performing a support role from the shadows, appearing for a matter of seconds to strike before vanishing again.

star trek alliance ships

When activated, your starship fires two powerful bolts of Antiproton Damage at your target and gains a strong boost to Weapon Shield Penetration and outgoing damage for a short duration. For up to a minute after activating this console, it can be activated a second time to apply a powerful burst of Flight Speed, Turn Rate, and Control Resistance.

star trek alliance ships

The Repulsor Blaster deals heavy kinetic damage to its target that increases with the distance from the target and knocks the target slightly backwards on impact. It has a 180 degree targeting arc.
After achieving level 5 in the Alliance Temer Raider, you will unlock the Sniper Starship Trait. While this trait is slotted, your torpedoes do additional damage at long range, and you gain a short-term boost to critical strike chance when firing torpedoes from more than 5km away

star trek alliance ships

The Dhailkhina was built to be the command vessel of a fleet intended to protect all biological life from the threat of annihilation. With the Romulan’s typical strike first mentality in mind, it features a powerful Battle Cloaking device to get the jump on its targets, an aggressive weapons layout, a hangar bay of strike craft well suited for recon or fighting, and impressive team coordination abilities. Should it ever engage in battle, there’s little question as to who would come out on top.

star trek alliance ships

This console summons several Heavy Bombers to attack your target, dealing heavy Kinetic and Plasma Damage.

star trek alliance ships

The Zhat Vash developed the Snakehead fighters to aid their larger starships in battle. These fighters are extremely nimble and use their Zhat Vash weaponry to destructive effect. Owning the Dhailkhina Command Strike Wing Warbird will unlock purchase of these new fighter pets. These fighter pets may be equipped on any other starship you own that has a hangar bay. The Dhailkhina comes equipped with one hangar of Snakeheads, and additional may be purchased from the EC Store, with Advanced and Elite versions available through the Dilithium and Fleet vendors, respectively.

star trek alliance ships

The Carbon Scorcher deals physical damage to its target. Additionally, the impact leaves behind a molecular solvent that eats through inorganic material, dealing heavy physical damage over time and decreasing the damage resistance rating of the target.
While this trait is slotted, activating any Command or Singularity ability will summon a micro singularity at your current target for several seconds, dealing kinetic damage and pulling foes inwards. If you do not have a foe targeted, it will instead appear 5km in front of you. This can only occur once per several seconds.

With the recent return of some House Mo’Kai Warriors to the fold – previously lost to time and Aakar’s influence – Klingon engineers have gained a boon. Some of these warriors are engineers, who carry with them secrets of the ancient Klingon technology that guided the empire before the houses were united. They have combined this with the modern technology and ship design to make some startling breakthroughs, the first of which is the M’Chla Refit Bird of Prey. This ship, designed for new Klingon Recruits, is a breakthrough in technology that allows mass production on a scale the Klingon Empire had never before reached.

8 Coolest Starships in Star Trek: The Original Series

Star Trek: The Original Series held plenty of impressively creative starships, used by a variety of different alien life, and enjoyed by fans.

  • Star Trek: TOS starships range from bizarre to iconic, showcasing the creativity and innovation of the show's artists and creators.
  • The Tholian Starship and Romulan Bird-Of-Prey are among the many unique vessels encountered by Captain Kirk during his galactic explorations.
  • The USS Enterprise, designed by artist Matt Jefferies, remains the most well-recognized starship in popular culture due to its innovative appearance.

Star Trek: The Original Series features some memorable quotes , uncanny aliens, and plenty of questionable fashion choices. Yet one of the show's most important aspects is its starships, which are used to both explore the galaxy and confront its various threats.

Star Trek: James T. Kirk's Best Friends, Ranked

Technical and budgetary limitations meant that many Star Trek : TOS starships were depicted as smears of light; luckily, the 2007–2008 remasters enhanced the show's visual diversity. As such, the weird and wonderful vessels encountered by Captain Kirk owe as much to the artists who worked on the remasters as they do their original creators. From doomsday weapons to massive flagships, The Original Series is full of inventive designs.

8 Lazarus' Ship

First appearance: "the alternative factor" (season 1, episode 27).

While TOS features some classic episodes , not all installments can be winners, as demonstrated by "The Alternative Factor". This first-season clunker sees the Enterprise crew dealing with two versions of the same man, Lazarus, from different planes of existence—if the two men touch, the universe goes boom.

The silly premise is not without its silver lining. Lazarus' dimension-hopping vessel is a brilliant piece of sci-fi kitsch thanks to its bubble-dome cockpit and retrofuturistic styling. This cute starship is also one of the most technically advanced to appear in the series: the Enterprise may travel through space (and sometimes time), but Lazarus' ship is a rare example of a craft that can move through dimensions.

7 The Planet Killer

First appearance: "the doomsday machine" (season 2, episode 6).

Long before Star Wars tested the destructive potential of the Death Star on Alderaan, Star Trek had its own planet-busting superweapon. Kirk's Enterprise crosses paths with the so-called Planet Killer while attempting to recover a damaged Starfleet ship, the USS Constitution . The only surviving member of the Constitution 's crew, Commodore Decker, explains that he has been investigating several ruined star systems, and that the Planet Killer is responsible for their destruction.

Star Trek: 6 Worst Things Done By The Federation, Ranked

The Planet Killer's antiproton beam represents one of the franchise's most devastating offensive technologies, easily disabling a top-of-the-line Constitution -class starship. The motives of the Planet Killer are more obscure—however, various Star Trek novels and comics have offered their own explanations for the powerful vessel. According to one questionably canon source, the Planet Killer was designed as an anti-Borg superweapon, while another novel sees the damaged ship reactivated and used to destroy an enhanced Borg cube. Whatever its purpose, it represents one of the greatest threats to the Federation.

6 Tholian Starship

First appearance: "the tholian web" (season 3, episode 9).

The Tholians are one of Star Trek 's most mysterious races. These apparently crystalline arachnids appear in only three of the franchise's more than nine hundred episodes, but this lack of screen time does nothing to detract from the threat posed by these xenophobic aliens.

"The Tholian Web" sees the Enterprise investigating the wreckage of another starship, the USS Defiant , which appears to be phasing in and out of existence. However, the Enterprise finds itself snared in the eponymous Tholian web when two alien starships weave an energy field around the Federation vessel. Although the Enterprise is able to escape, narrowly avoiding capture or destruction by this bizarre alien power, fans are sure to remember the unusual vessels responsible for Kirk's predicament.

5 The Fesarius

First appearance: "the corbomite maneuver" (season 1, episode 10).

The spherical Fesarius encountered by the Enterprise in "The Corbomite Maneuver" is the flagship of the First Federation (not to be confused with the United Federation of Planets). Its unusual, simplistic design sets it apart from the sleeker ships usually seen in the series; in many ways, it is a more rounded precursor to the Borg cube seen in The Next Generation . However, luckily for Kirk and his crew, the Fesarius is more interested in exploration than assimilation.

6 Biggest Retcons To Star Trek History

In addition to its impressive appearance, the Fesarius is also home to the alien Balok, played by Clint Howard. This was Howard's first Trek role—he would go on to make frequent appearances throughout the franchise, most recently in a 2023 episode of Strange New Worlds . The Fesarius itself would also reappear, albeit off-screen, as the ship plays a central role in a Shatner-authored novel and a Star Trek: Voyager short story.

4 Eymorg Starship

First appearance: "spock's brain" (season 3, episode 1).

To call "Spock's Brain" divisive is perhaps being too kind to an episode that many fans consider as the nadir of The Original Series . This campy caper involves the theft of Spock's brain (his body is turned into a robot by Doctor McCoy) and a race against time to retrieve the organ from the mysterious Eymorg civilization . Fred Frieburger, who helped to write the episode, is often accused of ruining Gene Roddenberry's utopian series—based on "Spock's Brain", the fans might be right.

However, even the worst episodes can feature interesting starships. The Eymorg vessel responsible for abducting Spock's brain is an inspired design that perfectly fits the show's bold, retrofuturistic aesthetic. There are two different versions of the Eymorg ship: a rocket-shaped vessel seen in the original episode, and a more spherical design created for the TOS remasters. Of the two, the latter is more interesting, as it draws upon contemporary ion-powered spaceships while retaining the classic sixties feel.

3 Romulan Bird-Of-Prey

First appearance: "balance of terror" (season 1, episode 14).

The Next Generation 's D'deridex-class warbirds maybe Star Trek 's most memorable take on Romulan starships, but the precursors seen in The Original Series are also worthy of examination. The hull and nacelles combination of the warbird recalls the design of many Federation ships—indeed, a line of dialogue cut from "Balance of Terror" suggested that the Romulans had stolen the blueprints from the Federation. The Bird-of-Prey encountered by Kirk in the Neutral Zone is more than capable of taking on the Enteprise , and is even superior in some respects.

For example, the Bird-of-Prey possesses cloaking technology, allowing it to conceal itself from enemy vessels. This makes the starship ideal for sneak attacks and hit-and-run strikes against the Federation, a strategy perfectly suited to the scheming Romulans. Furthermore, its arsenal of nuclear warheads may be relatively old-fashioned, but it is nonetheless effective.

2 Klingon D7 Cruiser

First appearance: "day of the dove (season 3, episode 7).

Despite being one of Star Trek 's most iconic starships, the Klingon D7 cruiser is rarely seen in The Original Series as broadcast. Indeed, the recognizable model is absent until the show's final season, as Klingon ships are instead represented by indistinct smears on the Enterprise 's screen. This shortcoming is remedied in the noughties remasters of the series, which insert CGI models of the cruiser into several earlier episodes.

8 Coolest Starships From Star Trek: The Next Generation

The D7 is primarily associated with the Klingon Empire , but this well-armed vessel also sees service under the Romulan Star Empire. For instance, a D7 is one of several Romulan-aligned ships that confronts Kirk's starship during "The Enterprise Incident", suggesting an alliance of sorts between the Klingon and Romulan states. Like many other ships under Romulan control, the D7 possesses a cloaking device, making it a deadly threat to the Federation.

1 USS Enterprise

First appearance: "the cage" (unaired pilot).

The Starship Enterprise has undergone numerous redesigns and reiterations since its debut in The Original Series , but Kirk's version of the Federation starship remains the most well-recognized version in popular culture. This is due, in part, to the hero ship's innovative appearance—Gene Roddenberry's design rules prevented the vessel from being just another generic flying saucer.

Yet few people deserve more credit for the Enterprise 's design than artist Matt Jefferies, who played a crucial role in crafting the Constitution -class starship. Jefferies' finest work has come to define the franchise, with this version of the Enterprise appearing throughout the Star Trek canon. Of all the ships to appear in The Original Series (and in Trek ) as a whole, none is more iconic than Kirk's USS Enterprise .

History [ ]

The Alliance was the historic union of two former enemies, the Klingons and the Cardassians , in the face of aggression from the Terran Empire . The Alliance itself was led by a regent , who delegated authority to various intendants who administrated the individual sectors of Alliance territory. As of 2372 , the Alliance was ruled by Regent Worf .

The Alliance conquered the Terran Empire, following a series of reforms by Spock , the leader of the Empire, that had left it vulnerable to attack. When the Alliance was finished, they became as corrupt and brutal to its enemies as the Terran Empire once was, and the Terrans and Vulcans were reduced to a slave race filling the mines of various Alliance planets .

The Bajorans became a major partner in the Alliance in the later 24th century , after their liberation from the control of the Terran Empire. However, the Bajoran rule would end up leading to one of the greatest threats to Alliance control.

On station Terok Nor , a bizarre accident in the Bajoran wormhole brought a Federation runabout from the primary universe into the mirror universe. The runabout's crew, Kira Nerys and Julian Bashir , were only aboard the station for a few days, but their presence incited a rebellion among the Terrans, led by Benjamin Sisko . ( DS9 : " Crossover ")

The Alliance tried (futilely) to crack down on the Terran Resistance , but the rebels managed to elude the Alliance at almost every turn. Although Sisko was killed by the Alliance in 2371 , the rebels continued to fight on. By taking refuge in the Badlands , the rebels were able to avoid a confrontation with the Alliance fleet almost constantly. ( DS9 : " Through the Looking Glass ")

In 2372 , the Alliance suffered a humiliating defeat when the rebellion managed to capture Terok Nor. Regent Worf personally led the assault fleet that attempted to recapture the station, but that fleet was defeated thanks to a powerful new warship the rebels had hurriedly constructed. ( DS9 : " Shattered Mirror ")

As if the Terran Resistance Forces ' initial victories were not humiliating enough, the Alliance suffered a further defeat in 2375 during an operation in which Worf attempted to obtain a cloaking device from the prime universe. Regent Worf himself was captured along with the Alliance's flagship by the rebels and taken to Terok Nor in chains. The final fate of the Alliance after Regent Worf's capture is unknown. ( DS9 : " The Emperor's New Cloak ")

While the Bajorans of the mirror universe have been influential members of the Alliance ever since the defeat of the Terran Empire, Kira Nerys has apparently been attempting to lead Bajor in rebellion against the Alliance. Her reasons for this are unclear, although it is most likely a simple power grab on her part. ( DS9 : " Resurrection ")

Apocrypha [ ]

There are several divergent stories as to how the Alliance was formed:

In Dark Victory , the second novel of William Shatner 's Mirror Universe Trilogy , Emperor Tiberius explains to his counterpart, James T. Kirk , that he united the Klingons and Cardassians as an effort to regain power after being dethroned by his prime minister, Spock . However, the Alliance turned on him as well, and he went into cryogenic stasis with his loyal generals for what was intended to be a one-year journey - which instead became 78 (mirroring Kirk's 78-year displacement in the Nexus ).

The Mirror Universe series, which began in 2007, tells the story of both the Alliance's initial founding and the downfall of its occupation of the former Terran Empire. In The Sorrows of Empire , the formation of the Alliance is actually part of a master plan by Spock to destroy the Terran Empire and replace it with a government similar to that of the United Federation of Planets , which he discovered through his mind-meld with Dr. McCoy in " Mirror, Mirror "; he believes the union of these particular nations will bring out "the worst qualities of both", citing incompatible world-views that will eventually bring both nations to ruin. Spock states clearly, at the mirror universe's Khitomer Conference in 2293, that the downfall of his empire will bring about the downfall of the Terran Empire's enemies. As predicted, the Alliance conquers the nascent Terran Republic in 2295 , killing Spock and his wife Marlena Moreau , and begins occupying many of its worlds. Spock's supporters, particularly his operatives on Vulcan, become "willing slaves" of the Alliance in order to lay the groundwork for the Terran Rebellion against the Alliance. In Rise Like Lions , the races that make up the Rebellion eventually win their freedom and fulfill Spock's vision of a democratic republic with the foundation of the Galactic Commonwealth in 2378 .

In Star Trek Online , a reestablished Terran Empire invades the prime universe through an anomaly in the Arawath system. During a mission to take an Orb to the mirror universe and switch it with its counterpart, thereby closing the portal, the player character briefly allies with the Klingon-Cardassian Alliance to defeat Terran Empire forces guarding the mirror version of the Orb.

I'm Glad Star Trek: TNG Never Did A Mirror Universe Episode

Star trek’s 10 most evil mirror universe characters, q’s son has an awesome new role in the star trek universe.

  • Mirror Universe featured evil versions of Star Trek characters, with starships rarely crossing between universes.
  • Star Trek: Enterprise revisited Mirror Universe with USS Defiant, while Star Trek: Discovery explored it with USS Discovery.
  • ISS Enterprise appeared in Mirror Universe, where Spock implemented reforms for a more peaceful way of life.

Three Star Trek ships have crossed between the Mirror Universe and the Prime Universe. Introduced in the classic episode of Star Trek: The Original Series , "Mirror, Mirror," the Mirror Universe is a dark parallel reality featuring evil versions of Star Trek's characters. Although the Mirror Universe has popped up on several Star Trek series since its introduction, starships rarely make the jump between universes. In "Mirror, Mirror," it was a transporter malfunction that caused Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner) and his USS Enterprise crew members to end up in the Mirror Universe, but that's not the only way characters have traveled between the two realities.

Star Trek: Enterprise revisited the Mirror Universe with season 4's two-part episode, "In a Mirror, Darkly," which saw the return of the original USS Defiant. Star Trek: Discovery 's characters aboard the USS Discovery also visited the Mirror Universe in the show's first season. In Star Trek: Discovery season 5, episode 5 , "Mirrors," the ISS Enterprise made its first appearance since its introduction in Star Trek: The Original Series. In the Mirror Universe, the authoritarian Terran Empire rose instead of the United Federation of Planets, and Starfleet is comprised of warships like ISS Enterprise that conquer and subjugate other worlds. Here are 3 starships that crossed over between Star Trek 's Prime and Mirror Universes.

The Mirror Universe worked great on Star Trek: The Original Series, but it would have felt out of place on Star Trek: The Next Generation.

The USS Defiant in Star Trek: Enterprise

Star trek: the original series season 3, episode 9 - "the tholian web" & star trek: enterprise season 4, episodes 18 & 19 - "in a mirror, darkly".

Although Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's USS Defiant would become the more famous ship to bear the name, there have been multiple ships named Defiant , including a 23rd-century Constitution Class starship first seen in Star Trek: The Original Series . In the TOS episode, "The Tholian Web," the USS Enterprise was sent to locate the Defiant , which they found trapped between universes, with its entire crew dead due to apparent insanity and mutiny. In a conflict with the Tholians, the Defiant was pushed through a spatial hole to an unknown destination.

The final destination of the USS Defiant was revealed in Star Trek: Enterprise's Mirror Universe two-parter, "In a Mirror, Darkly." The Defiant both traveled back in time and crossed into the Mirror Universe. The Mirror Universe Tholians then began to salvage the ship, but Commander Jonathan Archer (Scott Bakula) of the ISS Enterprise NX-001 plotted to steal the Defiant and use its advanced 23rd technology to install himself as Emperor of the Terran Empire. Archer commandeered the Defiant but en route to Earth, Lt. Hoshi Sato (Linda Park) poisoned Archer and took command of the Defiant, declaring herself Empress.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine later introduced the Defiant Class USS Defiant, and the Mirror Universe had its own version although neither crossed universes.

The USS Discovery in Star Trek: Discovery

Star trek: discovery season 1.

Star Trek: Discovery season 1 spent five episodes in the Mirror Universe after Captain Gabriel Lorca (Jason Isaacs) manipulated the starship and crew back to the alternate reality he originated from. Previously unknown to the Discovery's crew, Lorca was actually from the Mirror Universe and intended to use Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) to gain access to Emperor Philippa Georgiou (Michelle Yeoh) and her ship. Lorca altered the coordinates for Discovery's spore drive, knowingly taking the ship into the Mirror Universe.

In the Mirror Universe, Michael Burnham was the adopted daughter of Emperor Georgiou and plotted with her lover, Lorca, to kill her mother.

Once in the Mirror Universe, Discovery's crew had to masquerade as their evil counterparts as they searched for a way to get home. Burnham eventually discovered Lorca's ruse and thwarted his plan before Emperor Georgiou ultimately killed him. Lorca's betrayal deeply affected Burnham and the rest of Discovery's crew, and their time in the Mirror Universe greatly cost the Federation. When Discovery returned to the Prime Universe nine months after they had left, the Federation/Klingon War was going badly, but Burnham and Georgiou helped bring the conflict to an end.

Michelle Yeoh will reprise the role of Emperor Georgiou as the star of the upcoming Star Trek: Section 31 made-for-streaming film.

Star Trek's Mirror Universe is home to the most evil versions of our favorite Starfleet heroes, but which ones are the best of the worst?

The ISS Enterprise in Star Trek: Discovery

Star trek: discovery season 5, episode 5 - "mirrors".

Star Trek: Discovery season 5 sends Captain Michael Burnham and the USS Discovery on an intergalactic treasure hunt for the powerful technology of the Progenitors , the creators of humanoid life. As part of their search, the crew of the Discovery finds a wormhole that leads to a pocket of interdimensional space, where they find the abandoned ISS Enterprise. The 23rd-century starship became a lifeboat for refugees fleeing the brutal Mirror Universe. According to a plaque on the ship, Mirror Universe Spock (Leonard Nimoy) implemented a series of reforms for a more peaceful way of life after his encounter with Prime Universe Captain Kirk (William Shatner).

Star Trek: Discovery season 5 filmed its ISS Enterprise scenes on the redressed USS Enterprise sets belonging to Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.

Although Spock was killed for his beliefs, he inspired others to set out in search of a better life. Despite an undoubtedly difficult journey, at least some of the refugees from the Mirror Universe's ISS Enterprise made a life for themselves in the Prime Universe. One of the refugees, a woman named Dr. Cho, became one of the seven scientists who helped hide the Progenitors' technology. She placed her clue on the ISS Enterprise, which remained undisturbed for centuries. Star Trek: Discovery season 5 has revisited several storylines from Star Trek's history, and the return of the ISS Enterprise serves as a nice shout-out to the Star Trek series where it all began.

Star Trek: The Original Series, Star Trek: Enterprise, & Star Trek: Discovery are all available to stream on Paramount+.
