Discover the islands, mahé island.

With over 65 white sand beaches, Mahé is the main island of the Seychelles with Victoria the charming capital. This verdant granite island enjoys a rich diversity of tropical flora and fauna. Measuring 16 by 4 miles with towering peaks covered with forests, it is an ideal walking and exploring island. Mahé Island is the commercial centre with international banks, supermarkets and small local shops. It was on Mahé that Ian Fleming gained inspiration for his James Bond novel “For Your Eyes Only” at the Hilton Northolme.

La Digue Island

La Digue, the third largest island, measures 3 x 2 miles and is 4 miles from Praslin. La Digue is famous for the incredible sculptured granite rock formations on Source d’Argent beaches. Ox carts and bicycles are the normal mode of transport, reflecting the general pace of life which is gentle and unhurried. The Union Estate boasts a coconut plantation, copra mill, vanilla plantation and Presidential guest house.

Praslin Island

Praslin, the second largest island, measuring 6 x 2.1/2 miles, is home to the Unesco Vallée de Mai site and a number of beautiful beaches such as Anse Lazio. Praslin has a wide range of hotels and the only 18 hole championship golf course in Seychelles. Nearby Curieuse Island is home to 250 breeding giant tortoises as well as ideally situated for short ferry trips to La Digue, Cousin and Aride Island.

Alphonse Island

Located 250 miles from Mahé Island with a 1 hour flight service, Alphonse has a total area of some 4500 acres that includes the island lagoon and surrounding sand flats. A world leading centre for bone-fishing, Alphonse Island is a coral atoll with stunning white sand beaches and a forested interior. The island is protected by a strict conservation programme. Island guests stay in smart beachside bungalows and villas.

Enchanted Island Resort, Round Island, Mahé

A small island, now known as the Enchanted Island Resort. Located 2 miles from Mahe Island it is located within the Marine National Park. This small island has had an interesting history, in the 1800 ‘s once being a detention centre for sufferers of leprosy. After the 2nd world war it became a popular restaurant owned by the Calais family, where Sunday home cooked barbecues were not to be missed.

Cerf Island Mahé

Located 2½ miles off the east coast of Mahé, Cerf Island has an area of 325 acres and has a typically granite topography with a range of small hills along the length of the island, laced by small sandy coves and inlets within the Marine National Park. Cerf is a quiet refuge near to Victoria and has attracted various names such as Wilbur Smith and Bill Travis to live there. Cerf Island Resort, L’Habitation and South Point Villas provide accommodation on the island.

Bird Island

Bird Island is situated 65 miles north of Mahé Island with a wonderful tropical climate. With an area of 250 acres, Bird is a coral cay boasting over 3 miles of soft white sand beaches and home to millions of nesting sooty terns between May and October. It is also an important nesting site for sea turtles. The Island Lodge provides charming bungalow accommodation all year round.

St. Anne Island

Located 2½ miles off Mahé, St.Anne Island is home to the 5 star Beachcomber Resort, within the Marine National Park. One of the first islands to be inhabited in 1770 by Lazare Picault, St.Anne later become a whaling station and in the 2nd World War a re-fuelling depot for the British navy. With a 800ft high granite peak and forested hills & valleys, the island is a fascinating location for walks and exploration.

North Island

Located 17 miles north of Mahé Island, North Island has a ground area of 500 acres with four very attractive sandy beaches. The island is of a granite type with peaks and valleys making for an interesting island for walks and exploration. The island is part of a conservation programme protecting the islands flora and fauna. Guests arrive by either helicopter or boat (weather permitting), staying in luxury beachside villas with a butler to look after their every fancy.

Frégate Island

Frégate Island is 26 miles from Mahé island and is the home to a striking luxury hotel Frégate Island Private. This beautiful granite island of 500 acres has seven beautiful beaches, with Anse Victorin beach recently voted the world’s best. Renowned for its varied bio-diversity and over 2200 giant tortoises the island’s accommodation philosophy is that of sustainability and being at one with nature.

Denis Island

Denis Island is situated 37 miles north of Mahé, with an area of 350 acres. Denis Island is a coral cay shaped almost like that of a tear-drop. Being a cay, the island has beautiful soft sandy beaches with a densely forested hinterland with walks and cycleways. The Denis Island Lodge accommodates guests within its chalet style bungalows. The island farm produces the majority of the island’s food including vegetables and meat, and fresh fish from the surrounding ocean.

Aride Island

Known as the finest seabird island in the western Indian Ocean , Aride Island is an essential part of the itinerary for any visitor to Seychelles. Aride hosts one of the most important seabird populations in the Indian Ocean with more breeding species than any other island in Seychelles. The island is managed as a nature reserve by the  Island Conservation Society  , a UK Registered Charity Aride Island is open to visitors and visits can be arranged by Seychelles Travel.

Curieuse Island

Curieuse island is a small granitic island close to the north coast of Praslin and now part of Curieuse Marine National Park. Home to more than 300 giant tortoises who roam the island at will. The island is notable for its bare red earth with Coco de Mer palms scattered around. The beach is a popular resting place for visitors enjoying a day’s excursion, whilst a volunteer group studies fish, turtle and coral numbers.

Cousin Island

Cousin Island, located 1 mile from Praslin Island is under the auspices of Bird Life International and designated as a Special Reserve. Cousin Island is not only significant for sea birds and endemic land birds but also an important site for Hawksbill Turtles. The Island is the home to the Brush Warbler, the Seychelles Fody, and Seychelles Turtle Dove. The Magpie Robin has recently been introduced. Also found are Audubon's Shearwaters, Bridled Terns, Brown and Black Noddies.

Silhouette Island

As its name suggests, Silhouette Island, when viewed from Mahé Island, a distance of 12 miles, sits boldly to the northern horizon shaped majestically like a craggy mountain top. Five granite peaks in total form the silhouette, within an area of 5000 acres. The island supports three small villages and two hotels, the Hilton Labriz and the Bell Tortue Lodge. Dramatic walks and pathways criss-cross the island making the location an attractive venue for flora and fauna observers.

Félicité Island

Félicité Island is a small heavy forested granitic island 4 kilometres east of La Digue island. Up until the 1970s it was a coconut plantation with a population of about 50 people. Six Senses Zil Pasyon Luxury Resort is now located on Félicité, where massive granite rocks and white sand beaches create an air of drama and beauty. Created with the renowned Six Senses flair, the resort is a very personal destination that embraces nature while offering every creature comfort. Useful information for planning your vacation in the Seychelles

Seychellois Creole, English, and French are spoken in the Seychelles. The most commonly spoken language is Seychellois Creole, a French-based creole spoken natively by about 95% of the population.

The currency of the Seychelles is the Seychellois rupee (SR or SCR). You’ll find ATMs on larger islands and credit cards are widely accepted at most hotels and at larger restaurants and shops.  Euros, Great British pounds, and US dollars are also widely accepted.

In the Seycehlles, you should try bourzwa griye (grilled red snapper), kari koko zourit (octopus curry), boulet pwason ek friyapen (fish balls and breadfruit), bouillon blanc (fish soup), and satini rekin (shark chutney). Fish and seafood are the staple ingredients in most dishes, many of which have clear Chinese, Indian, and French influences. Seafood is often cooked in coconut milk with garlic, ginger, lime, and chilies and accompanied by rice, breadfruit, plantain, or sweet potatoes.

A typical Seychellois dessert to look out for is ladob (plantain, cassava, or breadfruit cooked in coconut milk with nutmeg, vanilla, and sugar). Cold spiced tea and the locally brewed SeyBrew beer are the most popular drinks.

In restaurants in the Seychelles, a service charge of 5-10% is often added to the bill and you won't be expected to leave an additional tip.

You should wear lightweight cotton clothes in the Seychelles. The equatorial sun is strong year-round, so bring sunglasses and a sun hat, too. Shorts and t-shirts are acceptable everywhere, although many hotels and restaurants require men to wear long pants in the evening.

In the Seychelles, you can enjoy powder-soft sands, turquoise seas, vibrant coral reefs, boat trips, and hikes through lush jungle. Giant boulders frame the sugary-white sands of small coves where palm trees sway in the breeze and turtles, manta rays, and angelfish flit through the water.

You could spend your days by the pool or on the beach, hop between islands on a catamaran trip, or visit botanical gardens, rum distilleries, local markets, or artists’ studios. If you’d prefer something more active, you can surf, kayak, sail, or dive, hike into the islands’ mountainous interior in search of the ancient coco de mer or sail between islands in search of a perfect beach.

In the Seychelles, you can stay in five-star resorts, boutique hotels, restored historic buildings, and Creole guesthouses. You could also opt for a private island getaway  where you’ll stay on an idyllic island escape with just a handful of other guests.

Alternatively, you could stay in an exclusive beachside resort  with a spa, choice of restaurants, and tailored service, opt for a small boutique hotel  with more local character, or choose a self-catering villa  on the waterfront. With 115 islands it can be hard to choose where to go in the Seychelles, but most visitors head for Mahé, Praslin, or La Digue, or hop between several islands. The largest island in the archipelago, Mahé , is also the busiest, but outside the capital, you’ll find plenty of secluded coves and beaches to explore and a range of hiking trails in the Morne Seychellois National Park.

Huge granite boulders line the beaches in Praslin , where the forest is home to endangered plant and animal species including the rare coco de mer, while La Digue  is smaller and the rhythm of life is slow and traditional.

If you choose to visit smaller islands, such as La Digue, Dennis Island, or Bird Island, you might want to pair a stay in these tranquil getaways with some time on one of the larger islands to access more activities and have a wider variety of things to do.

It takes around 18 hours to fly from the East Coast of the US to the Seychelles and around 27 hours from the West Coast.

The time zone in the Seychelles is UTC+4 hours. Daylight Savings Time isn’t observed.

The best way of getting around the Seychelles is by car, bike, or taxi. On the larger islands such as Mahé, you can rent a car to travel to the sights. We can also arrange a private driver for you. On smaller islands, such as La Digue, a bike gives you freedom to explore.

The main islands of Mahé, Praslin, and La Digue are connected by ferry, and you can also fly between Mahé and Praslin.

US citizens don’t need a visa to visit the Seychelles but will need a digital Travel Authorisation. You can apply in advance on the Seychelles Electronic Border System website and will then be issued with a visitor permit on arrival.

Citizens of other countries should check their visa requirements. We recommend using our partner Visa Central to do so .

Your doctor can provide you with immunization advice for the Seychelles, but you should also ensure you’re up to date with the recommended vaccinations for your home country. You can also check the recommended vaccinations by visiting the  Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website .

Check that your passport is valid for the duration of your stay and six months beyond your planned departure date from the Seychelles and that it has one double unstamped page.

Hello dear journaway team. I have just been to Mauritius, la Réunion and Seychelles with my daughter. It was the first time I hadn't traveled individually. I was rather sceptical beforehand, but I have to say that everything was perfectly chosen and organized by you. On some days we followed your suggestions (e.g. piton de la fournaise) and that was always great. Otentic on Mauritius is great and the Bliss Hotel on Mahe was also very good. Top location and very pretty. The room in Saint Pierre was just as nice. I would deduct for the arrogant and lame staff in the Dina Morgabine hotel restaurant and bar. However, the reception there was super friendly and the pool was big enough for swimming. The fact that the guy at Europarat at the airport in Saint Denis took half an hour or more per customer was stupid, but that's not your fault. You did a great job and we were able to fully enjoy every day. I would definitely book with you again

I just got back from a wonderful two-week trip to Southern Africa and want to thank Zicasso for putting me in touch with the travel agency and Shannon, who did a wonderful job of constructing my dream trip. Everything was top-notch and well-executed, and Shannon was friendly, responsive (I'm very picky and made many revisions), and a great communicator.  When there was a wrinkle (which fortunately was very rare), she was right on top of it (in one case a lodge had booked us into their other property and tried to move us there, but Shannon showed them proof that we had booked over a year in advance and insisted we stay in the original property. They honored that). Here is my review of specific aspects of the trip: Cape Town. I can't say enough about the hotel, which was one of the best we'd ever stayed in. The property itself (it's a very modern and beautiful boutique hotel steps from the beach) and the customer service were wonderful. We stayed for four nights and I can't imagine a better place to stay in Cape Town. We spent one night in the wharf area before coming to the hotel and I'm so glad we opted to stay near the beach instead. Having a beautiful ocean view and being able to walk to the beach to watch the sunset every night was incredible.  Also, the staff were over-the-top amazing; they were so flexible and accommodating (if you wanted breakfast early or after the regular serving period, they would happily oblige; if you walked in with take-out, they would plate it for you and bring it to your room. They would also pick up take-out and deliver it to you).  There were also many special touches - free wine, free, stocked mini-bar, free hot cocoa, and popcorn that they would deliver to your room any time - we felt very cared for. One of the managers led us on a guided hike up Lion's Head mountain, which was super-fun (he not only brought tea and snacks, but is an excellent photographer and took beautiful photos of us that he shared). I highly recommend the activity to anyone who is reasonably fit (the views at the top are outstanding). We also did a peninsula tour and an all-day food and culture walking tour the next, and highly recommend our guide - she was delightful and fun. The lodge. Wow, I had read all the five-star reviews of this lodge on a private reserve near Kruger before we left and wondered how it could ever meet such high expectations, but it exceeded them. This was more like 10-star than 5-star. The staff (much like the staff at our hotel in Cape Town) were so friendly, professional and responsive. They would do anything to make you happy. And like them, all of the warmth and special treatment felt genuine rather than fake or forced.  The food was amazing (and plentiful - all meals, alcohol and high tea were included), but what set this lodge apart was the amazing rangers (we were lucky to have the head ranger and his tracker). I learned so much from them about animal behavior as they were incredibly knowledgeable (and extremely respectful) of the animals. As a result, we saw all of the big five multiple times (my favorites were seeing three leopards and seven lions, including both male lions sleeping after a kill and female lions slowly hunting Cape buffalo in the early evening). We met people at this lodge who had stayed at multiple other five-star lodges and all said this one was the best, which I can believe. Victoria Falls. The lodge was the number one rated lodge in Victoria Falls and though it was very nice, it did honestly pale by comparison to our lodge near Kruger (the outdoor bathtub and pool were both dirty and not usable. I'm not sure how one would remedy this, other than to re-order the trip so one ends in Sabi Sands).  The staff were nice and the food was wonderful, and like our other lodge, activities were included (the guided trip to Victoria Falls was very informative as was the private "sundowner" river cruise we had on our arrival night. We saw male elephants engaging in "horseplay" in the water, a trip highlight. However, the game drive (no tracker and a much smaller park) paled in comparison to those we did in Sabi Sands).  The optional (extra charge) elephant interaction at their sanctuary was really amazing and we highly recommend it to anyone staying in Victoria Falls. The falls were about a third dry because we went after the winter dry season. Shannon had warned us about this in advance, so they were a little underwhelming, but I'm still glad we went because we wanted to see them and weren't sure if we'd get back to this part of the continent on another trip. If you want to visit the falls, be sure to look at photos of how they look during certain months so your expectations are met.  Chobe River Cruise (Namibia).  I'm so glad we did this cruise because it was a great way to end our trip on a really high note. We originally wanted to book the Zambezi Queen (which is bigger, more modern, and more luxurious), but only the Chobe Princess was available for our dates and we ended up getting the smallest (four rooms) of the three CPs. I thought it might be underwhelming, but I was wrong. We had a great time on our small ship with six members of a German family.  The staff were wonderful (amazing food from Chef Edgar!) and "game drives" on the river turned out to be a game-changer. Although we saw many animals during our land-based safaris, we did see different behavior from the water (elephant herds crossing the river; baboons at play for 30 minutes at a time, whereas on land, the baboons would run away; huge groups of giraffe in an open field).  Unlike on land, where you would sometimes drive 30 minutes or an hour in search of a sighting, we saw animals the entire time we were on small boat excursions from the larger boat. Essentially, we'd spend 30 minutes watching elephants and then move to crocodiles, baboons, and giraffes, etc.). Of my top recommendations for people going to Africa, it's to do this river cruise in addition to land-based safaris. Thanks again to Shannon (and Zicasso) for making our dream trip come true. Although we've been to many wonderful places (including Patagonia, Bora Bora, Australia/New Zealand, etc), my wife and I agree that this was the best trip we've ever taken. And we will be back!

California's Great America, San Francisco Overview

California’s Great America Amusement Park is one of the topmost and premium places to visit in Northern California. It is located in Santa Clara and is a combination of theme and water park offering more than 100 acres of world-class entertainment. It offers a wide range of exciting rides for both, kids and adults. Some of them being Delirium, Orbit, Drop Tower, Tiki Twirl and Xtreme Skyflyer.

In 2021, it is also launching two new restaurants, Pier 76 Café and Sand Bar, that will add on to your experience of the day. These new dining locations will make this a perfect spot to enjoy a relaxing drink and a gourmet meal.
