Different Ways to Tour Historic Buffalo, NY
City Guide , Culture & Arts , History , Tours & Walks
Written by Jason Hugar
Segway into something out of the ordinary.
Photo from Buffalotouringcompany.com
As an unconventional mode of transportation, the Segway never really caught on as a city mainstay. Nevertheless, traveling at 12.5 mph and balancing your weight on five gyroscopes is a pretty cool way to experience Buffalo’s history. Roll past Hoyt Lake, through Delaware Park, and take a spin by Frank Lloyd Wright’s Darwin D. Martin House for good measure. When you are done, make use of your free admission to the Buffalo History Museum included in the cost of the tour.
Cruise the river and ride the waves
Get on the bus and have some fun.
The Pan American Grill & Brewery
Have a beer and stay the night.
Ride the trolley into the city of light, take a walk with the ghosts of buffalo’s past..

Segway Through Buffalo History
BUFFALO, NY - In recent years, Buffalo has been gaining notoriety as a tourist destination. Travel writers from some pretty big papers in pretty big cities (NY Times, Boston globe, Toronto Sun) have praised the city's history and architecture. It appears that while word is spreading, visitors are responding.
Norman Jonas started Buffalo Touring Company 3 years ago and has seen the increase in cultural tourism first-hand. His company is where the rubber meets the road, literally, when it comes to people searching out the hidden gems of Buffalo.
Buffalo Touring Company offers Segway tours that focus on a variety of locations around the foot-print of what was the Pan American Exposition grounds in 1901. Among the stops, the History Museum, Buffalo State College, Albright Knox, Hoyt Lake, Forest Lawn and even over to the Buffalo Zoo.
Jonas says the advantage a visitor has on a Segway (two-wheeled, battery-powered, personal transporter) is that they have the range of a motorized tour and the accessibility of a walking tour.
Buffalo Touring Company offers tours twice a day, Fridays through Mondays.

Segway in New York City
For centuries now, human beings have found new and efficient ways to travel the world more efficiently. While it might not be known to everybody, the Segway, became available in November 18, 2002. After Jeff Bezos opened the NASDAQ Stock Market and was only available via Amazon, at a cost of $4,950.
It is a great way for those to travel, whether you are a tourist or local. One of the great things about the Segway is that it is a new kind of “human transporter”, where very little effort is needed to travel, and one can concentrate on their surroundings, which makes it ideal for a tourist. It is a two-wheeled contraption that allows users to “self balance”, and was considered quite the technological innovation of its time.
There are many popular segway tours in cities all across the world. However, when it comes to one of the most visited cities in the world, New York City, unfortunately – the segway in New York City is illegal. The city simply doesn’t allow motorized vehicles on sidewalks, and it’s been this way for a while now. For many tourists and segway lovers, this is quite the inconvenience. New York City is certainly home to millions of people already, not to mention the tourist population – so some believe that this is a great move to avoid too much congestion. However, there are other politicians that are rethinking what vehicles should be allowed, and why.
Go For an Alternative
However, no matter what New York City ends up doing – let’s say that you want to visit tomorrow, next week, or next month. It is unlikely that any meaningful legislation will have changed anything by then. If you are used to, or were looking forward to traveling by segway, what’s an alternative that could work? There is one obvious answer to that, and that is the Central Park Pedicab Tours . While the segway in New York City might be illegal, this is a wonderful alternative.
For those who don’t know, Central Park isn’t the largest park in New York City, but it is easily the most famous, and is known all over the world for its incredible sights. There are some that might prefer the quiet peace of the Great Lawn, and other history buffs that might prefer the many monuments. The Belvedere Castle is also quite popular with international tourists. A Pedicab Tour will be happy to take you around, and is a great way for you to sit back, relax, and do some sightseeing! It’s also environmentally friendly, as well!
It’s a great way to switch things up from New York’s infamous busy subways, or yellow taxi cabs. Why not travel in style with someone who actually knows the Park, so that they can show you around and give you information? That is the kind of wealth of knowledge that gives the Pedicab Tour an edge over the Segway Central Park .
You might even recognize places that you have seen only in TV shows and movies, as Central Park has been depicted in film countless times. Whether you are traveling with family or friends – there is plenty to see at any time of year.
No matter who you are, you are sure to be entertained and informed thanks to Pedicab Tours. It’s a great way to sit back, relax, reflect, and enjoy a little bit of nature in one of the busiest cities in the world.
