For the first time in five years, Manchester United is headed to the United States for a preseason tour.

The Red Devils have confirmed they will head Stateside in the summer of 2023, returning for the first time since a 2018 tour that included a match against Liverpool at Michigan Stadium that drew over 100,000 fans.

“This will be our first visit to the U.S. for five years and everyone at the club is looking forward to it, especially the players, who love the high-quality facilities, the welcoming atmosphere and passionate support of our large U.S. fanbase,” said John Murtough, Manchester United’s football director.

“Tour 2023 will not only see the return of our senior players to training and playing, but there will also be valuable opportunities for up-and-coming talent from our Academy to experience life within the first-team environment – and for our U.S. fans to see some potential stars of the future.”

So far, the club has confirmed four matches of the tour: against Arsenal, Borussia Dortmund, Wrexham, and a high-profile match against Real Madrid as part of the Soccer Champions Tour.

Manchester United are on the road again this summer, and this time they’re headed back to America. Here’s absolutely everything you need to know about it.

Pre-season is always a good time to get a glimpse of the squad, give some of the youngsters a go and overall get the players fitter for the upcoming season.

In the past United have been far and wide, including trips to China, Thailand and Australia – but in 2023, the destination is once again America, which is massively exciting for the large Red Devil fanbase in the States.

Here we have absolutely everything you need to know about Manchester United’s pre-season summer tour in 2023.

When does pre-season begin?

Manchester United’s pre-season campaign 2023 will officially kick off on July 12th 2023. However, this could be subject to change if any fixtures are announced prior to this date.

So far as of 21/06/2023 , four fixtures have been announced for United’s pre-season tour of America – plus one beforehand in Scotland, another in Scandinavia, a trip to the Theatre of Dreams and then off to Ireland! These are as follows.

• Wed July 12th 2023, 4pm: Manchester United vs Leeds United, Ullevaal Stadium, Oslo
• Wed July 19th 2023, 2pm: Manchester United vs Lyon at Murrayfield Stadium, Edinburgh, Scotland
• Sat July 22nd 2023, 10pm: Manchester United vs Arsenal at Met Life Stadium, New York
• Wed July 26th 2023, 3.30am: Manchester United vs Wrexham at the Snapdragon Stadium, San Diego.
• Thur July 27th 2023, 3.30am: Manchester United vs Real Madrid at the NRG Stadium, Houston
• Mon July 31st 2023, 2am : Manchester United vs Borussia Dortmund at the Allegiant Stadium, Las Vegas.
• Sat August 5th 2023, 12:45pm : Manchester United vs RC Lens at Old Trafford, Manchester
• Sun August 6th 2023, 4pm: Manchester United vs Athletic Bilbao at the Aviva Stadium, Dublin

Manchester United’s pre-season tour begins on July 12 - get full schedule

Manchester United are slated to play as many as seven games in their 2023 pre-season tour.

Twenty-time English champions Manchester United will begin their pre-season 2023 tour in Norway against Leeds United on Wednesday, July 12.

After finishing third in the Premier League last season, the Red Devils will be eager to kick on and close the gap to their crosstown rivals Manchester City, who have won the league title in four of the last five seasons.

Soon after their opening per-season game against Leeds, United under the tutelage of Dutchman Erik ten Hag will travel to Scotland and face Lyon on Wednesday, July 19.

Following their visits to Norway and Scotland, United will kickstart their pre-season tour of the United States.

Their first game in the United States will see them take on Premier League rivals Arsenal in New Jersey on Saturday, July 22.

The Red Devils will be in action once again three days later when they will square off against newly promoted League Two outfit Wrexham in San Diego on  Wednesday, July 26.

Next up for United during their 2023 pre-season tour is a high-profile friendly against Spanish heavyweights Real Madrid. This encounter between two of club football’s most successful teams will happen in Texas on Thursday, July 27.

The Red Devils’ last pre-seson match in the United States is slated to take place in Las Vegas on Monday, July 31 against German giants Borussia Dortmund.

However, United’s pre-season 2023 doesn’t end with their last match in the United States against Dortmund.

After concluding their US tour, United are scheduled to return to the United Kingdom before travelling to Dublin to face Spanish outfit Athletic Bilbao on Wednesday, August 6 for their last match of the pre-season preparations.

As far as their squad composition is concerned, United have released the likes of Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe, while David de Gea and Wout Weghorst are also among the expected departures.

Incomings, on the other hand, could see the likes of Mason Mount and goalkeeper Andre Onana join the squad before United start their pre-seson.

Tickets to the Manchester United tour of the US are selling fast. With three games on the schedule for the Red Devils, Erik ten Hag’s side will be one of the top teams playing in the United States this summer. United is playing two games on the country’s west coast before venturing east. In the third, the latest edition of a familiar European clash happens midweek.

These games are scheduled for July 27 to Aug. 3. To start, Manchester United is playing Arsenal at SoFi Stadium in the Los Angeles area. Then, on Wednesday, July 31, United returns to Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego, CA, to face Real Betis. The last game on Manchester United’s summer schedule is in Columbia, SC, at Williams-Brice Stadium. United is playing Liverpool to add another chapter to their historic rivalry.

Tickets to the Manchester United summer tour are a hot commodity, so securing a seat at the three venues is best before they are all gone.

Unlike other clubs, Manchester United’s summer tour of the United States is set in stone. The Red Devils will not add more games to the three listed above. The club has played more than three games in previous years, but this is the extent of its trip across the Atlantic Ocean in 2024.

Tickets to Manchester United US tour among best opportunities for Americans

Manchester United always draws major crowds in the United States. Last summer, United averaged 58,792 fans over its four games in San Diego, Houston, Las Vegas, and East Rutherford. Manchester United’s official sale of tickets for the 2024 contest against Arsenal has sold out already, but if you look in the right spots, you can find availability .

That is true for the other friendlies coming to the United States, too. For example, Arsenal and Liverpool are playing one another on the same day Manchester United faces Betis. Lincoln Financial Field is hosting the two Premier League title contenders, with tickets also available for that contest. Several other clubs in the Premier League are planning trips to the United States, too. For example, Aston Villa scheduled a friendly against defending MLS Cup champions Columbus Crew, and tickets are available . Who Are the Newly Promoted Teams in the Premier League for the 2024/25 Season?

This Premier League campaign will feature returning clubs Leicester City, Ipswich Town, and Southampton. 

You know what August means, right? Yes, it’s the dog days of a long baseball summer. Sure, this year it’s the month where millions, if not billions, of sports fans nurse their Olympics hangover. But more than anything else, it means that the Premier League is back.

The titans of the English top flight are set to clash again, seeking to carve out campaigns to thrill their fans and maybe even earn some silverware. And as is the tradition, three new clubs will join the fray, having won promotion from the Championship.

That’s right, gone are Luton Town, Burnley, and Sheffield United, last season’s bottom feeders. Up with hopes of making the Premier League their long-term home are Leicester City, Ipswich Town, and Southampton.

Here’s what to know about the new kids on the block:

Leicester City

Established: 1884 Home ground: King Power Stadium Nickname: The Foxes

Leicester are certainly no strangers to the Premier League, authoring arguably the most impressive underdog story in sports history when they won the league title in 2015-16, besting by at least 10 points heavy hitters like Arsenal and Manchester City. Sure, they were punching well above their weight, certainly in terms of financial resources. But in the years that followed, they were always a safe bet to turn in solid, mid-table performances, if not a bit better. But then the bottom dropped out in 2022/23, when they finished a squalid 18 th and were relegated to the Championship.

Still, they responded about as well as a team could. Under the guidance of new coach Enzo Maresca, Leicester finished atop England’s second division, ensuring their return ticket to the Prem.

However, they’ll have a bit of a different look this season. For one, Maresca is gone, having been poached by Chelsea to oversee the momentous challenge of returning them to true relevance. And Maresca took with him midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, who was a dynamo for Leicester last year, scoring 12 goals and assisting on 14 more, which earned him player of the season honors.

Steve Cooper, who steered Nottingham Forest into the Premier League in 2022 but was sacked by the club last December, will take the reins as manager. And they’ve welcomed in winger Abdul Fatawu, center back Caleb Okoli, and forward Bobby De Cordova-Reid, as well as teenage midfielders Michael Golding and Facundo Buonanotte, but only De Cordova-Reid has experience in the Premier League.

They do still have stalwart striker and club legend Jamie Vardy, but at 37, it’s fair to wonder how many goals are left in his right foot.

Ipswich Town

Established: 1878 Home ground: Portman Road Nickname(s): The Tractor Boys, The Blues

If you’re a neutral fan with a soft spot for underdog stories, you’ll love Ipswich Town. It’s been 22 years since the Tractor Boys have been in the Premier League, with the club falling as low as League One (England’s third division) In fact, they won promotion in back-to-back years to make it to the Prem for this season, becoming only the fifth team in history to make the climb from League One to the Championship to the Premier League in consecutive years (Watford from 1997-99; Manchester City from 1998-2000; Norwich City from 2009-2011; and Southampton from 2010-2012).

Ipswich are led by Kieran McKenna, the promising young manager who had been linked to bigger jobs like Chelsea and Manchester City before committing his future to his current club, inking a four-year contract extension.

On the pitch, Ipswich are anchored in the midfield by captain Samy Morsy, the club’s player of the season last year, with Nathan Broadhead and Conor Chaplin firing the attack. The duo were joint top scorers for the club last campaign with 13 goals each.

Omari Hutchinson, who came over from Chelsea last year on loan and had a stellar season, notching 10 goals, has made a permanent move to Ipswich, providing youth, potential and a proven record of being able to work within McKenna’s system. Joining him are new additions Jacob Greaves (center back), Liam Delap (forward), Conor Townsend (left back), Ben Johnson (right back), and Arijanet Muric (goalkeeper). They’ve also brought in midfielder Kalvin Johnson on loan from Manchester City.

Southampton

Established: 1885 Home ground: St. Mary’s Stadium Nickname(s): The Saints

Much like Leicester City, Southampton spent one season in the Championship wilderness before earning their way back into the Premier League. The Saints had enjoyed 11 seasons in the top flight, finishing in the top half of the table four times, before crashing to the very bottom in 2022/23. Lallana, 37, joined Southampton’s academy as a 12-year-old in 2000, finally making his debut in August 2006, the first of 235 appearances for the Saints. He left for Liverpool in 2014, spending the next six seasons on Merseyside before moving to Brighton and Hove Albion, where he spent the last four years. But now he’s back, surely much to Southampton supporters’ delight.

Manchester United made it two wins out of two in the Champions League as they visited CSKA Moscow.

Jose Mourinho's team travelled to Russia on Monday without a number of key players. Marouane Fellaini and Michael Carrick joined Paul Pogba on the injured midfielders' list while Antonio Valencia and Phil Jones were left behind.

But the players who were available did the job in their absence and United ran out 4-1 winners thanks to two goals from Romelu Lukaku, plus a strike each from Anthony Martial and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Chris Smalling came in for Jones, while Victor Lindelof also started in defence on a night where Ashley Young captained the side.

The United teamsheet had the players lining up in a 3-4-3 formation as United prepared for their first Champions League away game since defeat at Wolfsburg two years ago.
