Excursion Overview

Explore majestic glaciers and wildlife on the blackstone bay cruise adventure.

Begin your journey with a scenic drive along the Turnagain Arm via the Seward Highway, passing through the 2.5-mile-long Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel, the longest highway tunnel in North America. Upon arriving in Whittier, embark on a 3.5-hour cruise into the breathtaking Blackstone Bay. As we navigate Blackstone Bay, experience the captivating landscape shaped by ancient glaciers during their great retreat. Witness an epic story of the powers between ice and granite, cruising among the sheer cliff walls, glacier outwash streams, and deep groves and striations scoured into the rock walls offering a glimpse into the history of glaciations. Within an hour from Whittier, encounter the magnificent faces of two tidewater glaciers, Beloit and Blackstone, amidst numerous waterfalls and hanging glaciers, remnants of giant glacier’s retreat. Along the way, take a moment to photograph sea otters and harbor seals inhabiting this pristine sound. During the adventure, weather permitting, you’ll have the opportunity to step ashore for a beach walk immersing yourself in the natural geology and lush rainforest while enjoying a snack and hot beverage. We operate rain or shine - Prince William Sound is a temperate rainforest and you can expect some rain that contributes to the beauty of waterfalls and glaciers. Please be advised that our adventure on the water will be 10-20°F cooler than on shore. Layered clothing including a fleece layer, waterproof jacket, waterproof pants, and sturdy closed-toed or water-resistant hiking shoes are recommended. Please note: In the event of weather-related cancellations by the captain, a refund for the cruise portion will be issued. Additionally, modifications due to weather may result in a partial refund. Gourmet lunch bowls prepared by our favorite eateries, Sweet Caribou, include chicken and a mini macaroon for dessert. Please Note: This tour is only available on Wednesdays & Fridays in October, March, and April.
