Trek 1999 2300T Older Road Bike
1999 Trek 2300T, road race & triathlon, Shimano Ultegra Triple components, ICON Air Rail fork
- USER REVIEWS
Bought this bike with the intention that it would be a nice diversion from my mountain bike and dirtbike. I've logged a few hundred mile so far. The bike is certainly stiff, but not overly harsh. I'm happy with the durability of the Rolf Wheels. They have stayed true so far, even though once in a while I forget I'm on a road bike and jump a curb. Ultegra shifting is flawless. The only things I could do without on this bike are some of the icon components. The pedals are not nearly as nice as Shimano 747s and the bars, stem, and seatpost are boat anchors compared to most aftermarket parts. The paint quality on mine is pretty good, although I have seen a few in shops that appear to be a little flawed. If you can get one of these for a good price (certainly not the price that this review board suggests), the bike makes sense.I'll post later if I run into any durability problems.Since I have no *real* complaints and the price was right, it gets a 5.Rick

I rode half the road bikes in Denver when I was shopping around, and it all came to an end when I got on the 2300. This bike actually fit me right out of the box. The aluminum frame is quick and very stable on sprints and climbs, but the carbon fork absorbs enough of the road to make this bike comfortable over the long haul. The Ultegra shifting is quick and accurate, and actually gets better as the cables stretch and break-in. The Rolf wheels are a really nice touch and provide a noticable aerodynamic advantage at speeds greater than 20mph. I picked up the bike for quite a bit less than $1849, which made the decision to buy this bike even easier.
FAST! Comfortable Flight Deck rocks! Looks great
Paint job not very durable. Clipping into the pedals can be a Bit*h. Seat a little hard.
I've got about 1500 miles into this bike already and it just now needs to have a little tuning on the shifters (but still not bad enough for me to get off my lazy ass and fix it). 100 mile days are no problem what so-ever! Rides like a dream and looks like one too. Extremely pleased with this bike. Had it up to 51 mph (well that's fast for me) and it handled like a dream.. a van pulled out in front of me and made me lay on the brakes pretty suddenly or I could have got up to about 55 or so, but it handled great. The flight deck is a great addition, the only problem is that one of the buttons is a little close to your thumb.. I keep hitting it on hard up-hills and stopping the trip counter. I was contemplating the 2500 (because the color scheme is like my Trek 8000 MTB), but it didn't have a tripple chain ring.. A big must for me. The bad- hard seat isn't for rides over one day, and the pedals aren't user friendly.
Pegout (sp?), Klein Quantum
stiff frame good climbing and sprinting, campag parts(i got it built up) well made
umm should come factory direct with campag,
great racing bike, shame it comes with shimano highly recomended
This bike is responsive. Hammer and go. After putting 3,500 miles on the bike over the last year, the only problem has been a chain that was replaced under warranty. With 300 miles on the bike, I took the bike back and replaced the standard issue ICON peddles with 2 sided mountain bike SPDs. This proved to be a good move when you are commuting and you don't want to fish for the right side peddle.
The finish on the Ultegra shifters isn't durable. I have replaced the "caps" once to keep the bike looking new. The durability of Ultegra is in question and may not last as well as the previous Ultegra I had on my other road bike.
Buy the 2300 if you want a high performance bike that responds to your input. The bikes ability far exceeds my cycling ability. I am selling my 2300 to buy a ti that will provide more confort over the longer hauls.
The Shimano Ultegra triple I have on it works great! Flawless Shifting
The ride is bone jarring at the very least and tremendous amount of vibration. The fork does nothing for dampning the road feel at all. The bike can't hold a corner to save it's life and is unstable at high speed descents. The saddle split right down the middle the very first day I had it. Also I went back to my old road bike b/c of the back pains I get from this. Don't buy this pile of crap, tell Trek to make a better bike
The biggest pile of cow dung on the market, avoid at all costs
Great on tight turns. Good fit, especially when I added LOOK pedals. Tends to make you want to climb. Bright red color an eye catcher
Tends to be easily marked or scratched. Kept the Ultegra components and am please I did.
Great bike and fun to ride. Guy in Albq. doesn't know a great bike.
5th TREK for me. Don't think I'd go back to any other.
Light, stiff, responsive, comfortable and really fast even in a head wind. In tail winds look out cars move out of the way. An amature can easily move this bike to 35mph. Beautiful paint and decals My Trek 2300T Alpha SLR is Yellow with with a glitter fleck. Great pedigree with Lance Armstrong.
Excellent bike for the money, I am an amature rider who is able to punish experienced riders every weekend. It is because of this bike and my training. This bike is only cruising at 25mph. Try it you will like it. Soon you too will drop experienced riders.
Cannandale aluminum carbon fiber fork road bike. No comparison.
great all around bike. It is sufficient for century rides, local cits, as well as club rides. It's responsive. It also climbs well. Rolf Comps are great!!!
triple needs adjustment more frequently than a double. headset is threaded. 1999 stem is recalled due to ineffecient screw placement.
A great bike for someone that wants an all-around bike. Ultegra equipped to last a lifetime. It rides as well as it looks. You should not get the triple if you are a serious racer, or are not planning to do a large amount of climbing. The triple is great for beginner-intermediate riders, and those in hilly areas.
klein quantum pro. lemond zurich.
Great frame, and headset. The Rolf Vector Comp rims compliment the red flake paint
The titanium rail on my seat broke after one season. Lucky the seat is covered on a lifetime warranty, and the seat was replaced at no cost.
An eye catching bike, with decent components. The Ultegra guts are a great asset, and if you get the chance, spend the extra bucks and get a flightdeck. The whole package is a great value, considering a comperable priced bike from Cannondale only comes with the 105's
Rode a Cannondale SR600 for one year previous to the 2300. Best bike I have ever owned

Quality of 1990's Carbon Bikes (Specialized Epic and Trek 2300)
- Add to quote
Hey guys, I'm looking for a little input here and any help is greatly appreciated... I'm in the market for commuter / campus bike w/ a little bit of style. I'm debating whether to invest in a new single speed like a Langster, a classic Peugeot or Raleigh, or pick up one of the many 1990s roadies floating around eBay. Some bikes that have interested me are Trek 2300s and Specialized Epics. Can anbody who once owned one of these bikes attest to their quality/value? I'm sure working with carbon back then was pretty inefficient compared to modern standards but I'm more worried about durability than weight. I love the look of those old nude carbons and if I find the right one in good shape, it would be hard not to pick it up. *RF
I wouldn't use one of those for a campus bike. If you're going for style find something in luged steel with an interesting paint job and sexy lugs (ornate). Also, single-speed is preferrable, maintenance can be a pain otherwise.
had an Epic I had an Epic back in the day. I thought it was a decent bike. The Epic used carbon tubes bonded to Al lugs. Some owners had problems with galvonic corrosion at the lugs. There were some failures. I got >15,000 miles out on mine and sold it. I did see some paint flaking at the lugs but never had any problems. I never had a Trek 2300 but I understand the later 2300's had a fiberglass insert to avoid the lug problems
my roommate had a second / third hand epic a couple years ago, imo a pretty crappy bike, rides like wet rags and feels like it's going to fall apart at any second. and the aluminum derailleur hanger broke.
Thanks for the input... perhaps I'll steer away from it and look at just some rustless steel bikes.
I ride my old carbon specialized epic at least once a week. I turned mine into a TT bike. Sure, it's a bit noodley, but I'm a big guy, too. It's very comfortable for me. I love the look of the tubes. No funny shapes like modern bikes have. I had it in road form over the winter, when my regular beater bike was disassembled. It felt great to me. Perhaps I notice the flex a bit more than other bikes because I primarily ride the specialized on the trainer, which will show flex in any frame. If you can find one for a good price, I'd say go for it. For reference, mine came with Shimano 600 components. They later renamed the line Ultegra. First model of STI, too. The Lemond drop in bars got me some looks a few years ago when I raced in in the crits. TB
I have a trek 2300 1993 model. Bought the frame at the swap meet 3 years ago, set it up with 9 speed chorus and its been my rain bike for over 10k miles. Works fine and a lot nicer then the old beaters I used to ride in the rain. Price was $30, I long for the good old days before Ebay came into force...
I'm not a particularly big guy at 6 ft / 160lbs, but I rode an Epic for almost 10 years. I thought it was a great bike. Rode nice and smooth. I did not find it flexy at all. Never had a single problem with it; it looked brand new when I sold it last year. The stock aluminum fork WAS a noodle, but otherwise I loved the bike.
My friend has owned his 2300 since the mid 90's and he has ridden the Death Ride 6 times on it and done a fair amount of miles over the last 10 or so years. He just recently purchased a Lemond and now saves the 2300 for a back up but he just can't get rid of it too many fond memories.
what size for 5'10 rider I want to get one of these too. what size is good for 5'10" rider? (trek or specialized)

Trek 2300 Composite (Things You Must Know)
Bicycles are a great way of getting around; not only are they eco-friendly, but they are also easy to maintain, less expensive, and an amazing way to exercise.
Suppose you’re looking into buying one. Though an old bike design, the Trek 2300 is a great choice due to its great specs. Be it for fun, exercise, sports, or as a backup for when your car misbehaves.
The Trek 2300 is a bike made in 1987 with its frame made of a revolutionary material from the aerospace industry called carbon fibe r.
The carbon fiber is fused with aluminum lugs, rear triangle, rim brakes, and high-end features, making it a valuable vintage bike today.
Trek 2300 Composite Value
The Trek 2300 was a mid-range bike that sold at $1,200 . Due to their age of production, they’re now considered vintage bikes.
You would get a good deal on eBay or other listing sites for around $200-$600.
Compared to bike frames made of aluminum, frames made of carbon fiber are becoming more expensive.
That is because of the intensity of labor and engineering expertise required to produce carbon fiber.
A bicycle’s value comes from its material’s worth and how much work went into its production.
Expensive materials and intensive labor would equal more value as workers are paid more.
Carbon fiber frames are more expensive because, unlike aluminum, they can be mass produced with little or no human interference.
The carbon fiber frame-making process requires more human resources.

The price of a new Trek 2300 Composite bike ranges from $1200-$2000 . But, of course, you will not find a new one now because they’ve been out of production for years.
You can find fairly used or second-hand Trek 2300 composite on eBay and other sites for as low as $300.
Even though they may come with a few defects, you can easily fix them and begin your dream adventure on mountain terrain.
Being the number one mountain bike manufacturer, Trek® has made a name for itself in the world of bikes due to its quality and constant innovation.
Below is a list of similar bicycles and their prices from other brands that offer a similar experience and even more than The Trek 2300 composite.
#1. Boardman SLR 8.9 2021
The board man goes for slightly over a grand . Not only is it similar to the Trek, but it also has newer features and an all-carbon-fiber frame. It goes for around $1300.
#2. Ribble R872
Even though the Ribble R872 has the cheapest carbon fiber frame of the Ribble brand, designed to tame the sportive nature of the road. The price starts from around $1100.
#3. Giant TCR Advanced 3 Disc 2021
This bike made by Giant doesn’t only prove its worth on a spec. It also proves it on the road. It was a little more expensive than the preceding ones. It goes for around $2,500.
#4. Canyon Ultimate CF SL 8 2021
Designed to be comfortable for long-distance riders, the ultimate canyon is a great bike for the price. The Canyon Ultimate goes for $2670.
#5. Cannondale SuperSix Evo Disc Ultegra 2021
With a new aerodynamic, more comfortable, and stiffer frame, the SuperSix Evo has a lot for a bike at its price.
This brand comes with hydraulic brakes and carbon wheels. It goes for about $4,700.
The bikes above have great performance records and are relatively cheap. Suppose you find a Trek 2300 too old for you or hard to come by. These bikes are excellent replacements for it.
Trek 2300 Composite Review
Reviews are a great way to get insight into what you’re buying. Not only do you know it’ll meet your demands, but you’ll also get first-hand info on performance, looks, and weaknesses.
The Trek 2300 Composite bike reviews are much. But I’d try to get all the opinions of the people under subheadings on performance, weaknesses, strength, and value rating.
#1. Overall Rating
The overall rating of the Trek 2300 is amazing . The lowest is four stars. This rating shows how much people enjoyed and loved what they bought.
#2. Value Rating
Value ratings tell you if the people who bought it think it was worth the price. The lowest value rating is also four stars, which means people think it’s worth the price it goes for.
#3. Strength
All reviews pointed to the Trek 2300 composite bike’s strength as fast and quick acceleration; this would excite you if you get that adrenaline rush when riding fast.
They also pointed to it being light; of course, carbon fiber is to reduce weight. They also mentioned it being stiff and comfortable and having super responsive components.
It climbs well and descends stable at high speeds. The brakes and the handlebars are very responsive.
#4. Weakness
The main complaints were about the frame. Some found it long, others short. However, this depends on how tall you’re. So, ensure to pick a frame that suits your height.
Another weakness noticed was the paint. Not only was it not attractive enough to some users, but they also complained of it fading away quickly.
You could always go for a paint job if the custom paint doesn’t suit you. If you’re serious about getting faster, you should consider changing some parts.
A customer pointed out that Trek used many Bontrager parts, which he thinks would reduce the vehicle’s speed.
Asides from these complaints , most people found nothing wrong with the Trek 2300.
How Much Does A Trek 2300 Weigh?
The Trek 2300 weighs 12.57 kg/27.72 lbs. The weight may be slightly more or less depending on the size of the frame you chose.
Every rider wants to go faster, and weight makes a huge difference in speed . Most bike riders believe lighter equals faster.
Carbon fiber is stronger and lighter than aluminum. The Trek combines the industry’s most used materials, making it a great pick.
Conclusion
Though an old bike, the Trek 2300 composite was revolutionary in its time, and even today, it’s a great choice for riders.
They might be hard to get since Trek stopped producing for quite some time n ow.

History and Iconic Models
Trek started out in 1975 by providing only frames. In 1976 they would supply entire bicycles.
For many people Trek is most famous for sponsoring Lance Armstrong’s U.S. Postal team during the late 90’s up to his retirement.
But Trek already pioneered the use of carbon fiber in 1989 with the Trek 5000.
It would result in the short-lived but daring design of the Y-Foil, introduced in 1998. One of the few bikes that is designated with something more than just a number.
They were also early adopters of the mountain bike craze, with the Trek 850 launched in 1983.
Their early foray in using carbon fiber would be later used with the introduction of the iconic Y33 and Y22 models. Mountain bikes with a monocoque carbon fiber frame. Although it used the suspension technique URT ( unified rear triangle ) which would turn out to be rubbish, the original design was considered iconic.

5. ★★★★★. ★★★★★. Strength: Trek knows how to make a great road bike. The geometry is spot on, and the setup is right where it needs to be for a bike placed right under the carbon brothers. Very stiff and well suited for a larger rider. Weakness: Trek has a tendency to over-bontrager all of their bikes.
