Augusta National is back in a video game.

Coming March 24, EA Sports PGA Tour will launch on all platforms, bringing EA Sports back into the golf video game realm. The last EA Sports golf game launched in 2015 with Rory McIlroy PGA Tour.

On Thursday, EA Sports launched a trailer featuring the game’s new elements. EA Sports PGA Tour will be the exclusive home of all four men’s majors, including the Masters.

Players will be able to compete in the Masters, PGA Championship, U.S. Open and Open Championship at numerous host courses, including all 2021 and 2022 venues. The 2023 ones will also be released at a later date. Additionally, players can compete in the top amateur championships including the Augusta National Women’s Amateur, the U.S. Amateur and other elite international amateur events. Players can also compete in the LPGA’s Amundi Evian Championship

EA Sports PGA Tour will also have additional content throughout the 2023 PGA Tour and LPGA seasons.

“We’re bringing the premier PGA Tour experience to players around the world with real-world golf data powering incredibly realistic gameplay with every shot and some of the most iconic courses in the world rendered in painstaking detail,” Cam Weber, EA Sports’ EVP and GM, said in a release. “From The Old Course at St Andrews Links to Pebble Beach Golf Links and more, we’re giving players the chance to tee off in bucket list golf experiences like never before.”

The Players Championship and all three events of the FedEx Cup Playoffs will be in the game. As part of the career mode, top golfers at the end of the year will be given the opportunity to win the FedEx Cup.

Players will be able to create and customize a golfer and develop their skills. With 20 shot types available as players progress in the game, they can enhance their skill set for driving, approach, short game, or putting, depending on their style.

Players can also play as several female athletes and create a female golfer in the overhauled Create-A-Player feature. They can participate in a series of LPGA-themed challenges and events. Iona Stephen joins the EA commentary team as the first female on-course commentator in-game, bringing her experienced insights from both playing professionally and working in golf broadcasting.

ShotLink and TrackMan data will also be incorporated to give players accurate rankings of skills.

Pre-orders for EA Sports PGA Tour are available now. Price will be $69.99 for the standard edition and $84.99 for the deluxe edition, which gives players access to numerous add-ons, like three-day early access to the game and Augusta National, Players Championship gear, the Grand Slam gear bundle, a Scotty Cameron putter in-game, 1,500 premium PGA Tour points, a PGA Tour XP Bundle and Masters gear.

EA Play members will also receive early access to the game, starting with a 10-hour early access trial on March 21. EA Play Pro members will enjoy unlimited access to the deluxe edition – as well as the exclusive EA Play Staff Bag – starting March 21. Lastly, all EA Play members will unlock additional bonuses for EA Sports PGA Tour, with monthly drops of pro shop perks such as exclusive headcovers, shirts, hats and more.

EA Sports PGA Tour will be available on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5 and PC (EA App, Steam and Epic Games Store).

EA Sports PGA Tour Release Date and Details Unveiled

EA has announced that EA Sports PGA Tour will be released on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC on March 24, 2023, with pre-ordering available as of today.

EA emphasizes this will be the exclusive home of the majors, allowing you to play the Masters tournament, the PGA Championship, the US Open Championship, and The Open while chasing the FedEx Cup throughout the season. Thanks to a partnership with the LPGA, you’ll also be able to compete for the Amundi Evian Championship, one of LPGA’s five major championships.

EA Sports PGA Tour Release Date & Details

The game will have 30 courses at launch, including such classics as Augusta, St. Andrews, and Pebble Beach. Utilizing the latest Frostbite engine, developers claim to have recreated the layouts of these courses in painstaking detail courtesy of drone technology, low-flying LIDAR helicopters, and on-course visits. It was apparently impressive enough to earn the coveted seal of approval from the caretakers of the courses when they played a virtual round.

However, as of now there is no word on whether or not you’ll be able to create other courses in the game or if you’ll be left with only the ones EA provides.

It was revealed that there will be an impressive number of ways to strike the ball, as you can select from 20 different types of shot that all have their distinct characteristics. With the game’s Pure Strike mechanics being tracked by PGA Tour ShotLink and Trackman data, your swing dynamics aim to be as realistic as possible. This means that the terrain of your lie and the course conditions will play just as important a role as being good on the sticks. Speaking of which, it was revealed that you’ll only be able to use the analog stick to swing the club, though there was some talk from the development team of adding a 3-click option post-launch.

Along with the ability to create your own golfer, you’ll also have the option to use real golfers from the PGA Tour (minus Tiger of course, who’s exclusive to PGA Tour 2K ), with the likes of Jordan Spieth, Tony Finau and Patrick Cantlay announced as those included at launch. EA was fortunate to be able to scan real golfers during the pandemic thanks to being included in the PGA bubble.

You’ll have the opportunity to further customize the look of your golfer with the help of 40 brands for apparel and equipment. It looks as if a golfer’s skills will be divided into five main categories: power, driving approach, short game, and putting. Over the course of your career, you’ll be able to unlock skill points that you can use to improve your prowess within these categories. You can choose whether you want to begin your career as an amateur or jump right into being a professional where you’ll compete for FedEx Cup points in tournaments and major events over the course of a season.

EA promises that there will be regularly updated challenges that people will be able to play to earn rewards. Because of the partnership with ShotLink, the game can actually scrape the data from real events to have you trying to recreate great shots from events in real life right after they have happened.

Online play will have competitive and casual matchmaking. These elements are expected to be updated with playlists that will vary the formats throughout the game’s cycle. There will even be online tournaments where you can play rounds to post a final score and hope that it holds up against everyone else that’s posting their own. Supporting up to 16 golfers all playing a round simultaneously, there looks to be plenty of chaotic fun to be had from hitting the links with others.

For now, that’s all we have as no hands-on time came with this event. That said, we’ll be sure to track EA Sports PGA Tour all the way up (and through) its March 24 release date.

The first glimpse of EA Sports PGA Tour — and yes, that’s the final title — is here at last, and it’s a brief but impressive look at EA Sports’ next simulation golf game.

A teaser trailer released Tuesday — which happens to be the same day that 2K Sports’ competing game, PGA Tour 2K23 , debuted in early release — offers clips of what EA refers to as “actual gameplay footage” from Augusta National Golf Club. That’s the home of the Masters Tournament, which will be featured exclusively in EA Sports PGA Tour , returning to the world of video games for the first time in a decade. It will be accompanied in the game by the three other major championships in men’s professional golf, as well as the Amundi Evian Championship , one of five majors on the women’s pro tour.

It’s perhaps premature to compare the two games; after all, this is a teaser with less than 30 seconds of footage from a work in progress. As for a release date, EA did not provide an updated launch window on Tuesday beyond the previously announced yearlong delay to “ spring 2023 .” However, the publisher did finally confirm the platforms on which EA Sports PGA Tour will be available: PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X. PC is a surprise; EA hasn’t released a golf title on PC since 2011. The publisher may be returning to the platform to compete directly with PGA Tour 2K23 , which has been available on PC since that franchise debuted as The Golf Club in 2014.

EA might also be inviting a comparison to PGA Tour 2K23 because the publisher believes it’s a favorable one. I’ve spent the past few days playing a review copy of the latter game, and while it’s no slouch in the graphics department, this peek at EA’s upcoming effort appears to be a cut above 2K Sports’ latest — there’s a level of richness and polish here that immediately caught my eye. For instance, the clubhouse at Augusta National has a heft that makes it look like a proper building; the structures on many of the courses in PGA Tour 2K23 look like cardboard cutouts by comparison.

Having said that, buildings on golf courses are ultimately just window dressing. In the end, EA Sports PGA Tour will be judged on how it feels to line up shots and swing a club; how many modes of play and courses it offers; and the degree to which players can customize their created golfer. Its predecessor, 2015’s Rory McIlroy PGA Tour , came up far short in pretty much every one of those areas except gameplay — at least at launch . As of now, EA has announced 11 courses for EA Sports PGA Tour , and said Tuesday that its roster of playable golfers will include Jordan Spieth, winner of the 2015 Masters Tournament, who appears in the teaser trailer.

We have an update to share on EA SPORTS™ PGA TOUR™ . 

EA SPORTS PGA TOUR will now launch the week of the Masters Tournament, with an early access release on Tuesday, April 4 and worldwide launch on Friday, April 7. Creating an authentic golf experience has been our goal, and this small shift in release date allows us to add a few final touches to the game that we are very excited to deliver to all of you, including updates to some favorite courses to reflect 2023 designs.

In the last couple months we’ve shown all the great content we’ve packed into EA SPORTS PGA TOUR – the exclusive home of all men’s four majors – and we have a few more details to share in the weeks ahead. We were made to wait a whole year (and then another two weeks) but EA has now released its new title, EA Sports PGA Tour.

EA Sports PGA Tour launched worldwide on Friday, 7 April 2023 , coinciding perfectly with the Masters Tournament in real life!

There was an early access period included for those who pre-ordered the Digital Deluxe Edition of PGA Tour, letting you get on the game as early as Tuesday, 4 April .

Augusta National, along with plenty of other great courses , are available from launch.

TheApexHound went head-to-head with one of EA Sports PGA Tour's producers, Ben Ramsour, in an 18-hole match across two of the game's incredible courses.

The pair played through the front nine holes at Bay Hill, and then the infamous back nine at TPC Sawgrass, including the treacherous 17th hole surrounded by water!

It was the first real look at the online gameplay that will be available to fans, and it did not disappoint.

The graphics on the game look incredible, and the level of detail used in recreating the courses is unprecedented.

There were two editions of EA Sports PGA Tour released on launch day.

Early access was included as part of the more expensive edition of the game, along with several other bonuses!

This means that the Digital Deluxe Edition £84.99 of EA Sports PGA Tour came with early access, but the Standard Edition will not.

The Standard Edition of the game will set you back £64.99, but comes with far fewer in-game perks, and of course no early access period.

As this is the first instalment of EA Sports PGA Tour, there was no prior history to tell us if it would be available to EA Play subscribers.

However, like most of EA's major sports titles such as FIFA and Madden, EA will offer a 10-hour trial for EA Sports PGA Tour.

The free 10-hour EA Play trial became available on Tuesday, 4 April .

EA Play subscribers will also be offered a 10% discount when purchasing the game.

In case you missed it, there are 30 courses to choose from on launch day, all brought to life through some incredible technology shown off during EA's deep dive into the course creation.

Each course will have a unique feel, with characteristics changing based on a variety of factors, including the grass type!

The mechanics behind the courses are so detailed that caddies are suggesting using the game to help them read the greens on the real-life PGA Tour!

EA Sports PGA Tour Game Release Date And Epic Course List Announced

The eagerly anticipated PGA Tour video game will feature some of golf's most famous courses in stunning detail

EA Sports has announced the release date for its first golf video game since 2015 - and it includes a star-studded line-up of 30 "bucket list" layouts from all over the world. 

The big news is that Augusta National - which debuted in the Tiger Woods PGA Tour game in 2011 - is back and will be showcased in stunning detail. And not only that, the legendary game maker has created a "Road to the Masters" career mode. 

In fact, EA Sports PGA Tour will become the exclusive home to all four men's majors - the Masters, PGA Championship, US Open and The Open - which was the feature most sought after by gaming aficionados. 

It will also feature the LPGA's Amundi Evian Championship and will be updated with additional live content throughout the 2023 PGA Tour and LPGA Tour seasons.

EA SPORTS PGA TOUR, the exclusive home of all four men's majors and road to the Masters launches worldwide on March 24, 2023

In addition, EA SPORTS PGA TOUR will launch with Road to the Masters which brings tradition and unmatched stakes featuring Augusta National, challenges, tournaments and gear tied to the Masters. The Masters made its first-ever virtual appearance with EA SPORTS in 2011, and its return to video games has been highly requested by golf fans. EA SPORTS will also provide more details on additional live service content throughout the 2023 PGA TOUR and LPGA Tour seasons.

Pure Strike gives golf fans all the tools they need to realistically attack every hole on every course the same way the pros do. Featuring ShotLink® powered by CDW and TrackMan, Pure Strike also helps ensure that each professional golfer’s unique swing and attributes will be accurately reflected in the game. Pure Strike incorporates the three parts of every golf shot - fluid swing mechanics that are highly accurate to a player’s backswing length and speed of follow through, innovative ball behavior allowing every bounce and roll to behave more accurately across a variety of terrain and course conditions, and lifelike course dynamics that play true to their real-life course counterparts.

In addition to being the exclusive home of all four men’s majors, EA SPORTS PGA TOUR is filled with experiences and content players have been asking for in a golf game, including:

For the first time in eight years, EA Sports returns to the golf course with a new PGA Tour game, set to reboot the golfing franchise that has been around since 1999. Here are the PGA Tour Release Date, features, and mechanics that you need to know.

First announced in March 2021, EA Sports PGA Tour is going to be the first new PGA Tour game published by EA Sports since 2015's Rory McIlroy PGA Tour, which was also incidentally the first game in the series not to feature golfing legend Tiger Woods in its cover and title.

EA Sports PGA Tour Release Date: April 7, 2023

EA Sports PGA Tour, not to be confused with 2K's own PGA Tour 2K23, will be coming out on  April 7, 2023 , on PS5 , Xbox Series X , and PC via the EA App, Steam, and the Epic Games Store. Pre-orders are now open for the game, which will cost $69.99 for the standard edition and $84.99 for its Digital Deluxe Edition.

EA Sports' return to the green is illustrative of the growing market in golfing, a sport that saw a resurgence during the pandemic years and has continued receiving new patrons since. However, the game will have to top a video game rival in the form of 2K Sports' own PGA Tour 2K23. Hence, anyone who played PGA Tour 2K23 and found it lacking could try out and see if EA Sports' own attempt of acing it in one would work better for them.

EA Sports PGA Tour Features and Mechanics: The Home of The Majors

EA Sports PGA Tour boasts having dibs on the world's most exclusive dibs, along with its exclusive rights over depicting The Majors in a video game. It is indeed one of the pillars of the game's development, delivering what EA calls the “#1 Most Requested Feature” to fans. The game will also feature 30 realistic and accurate “bucket list” courses designed using the Frostbite engine using photogrammetry data at launch, “Pure Strike Gameplay” powered by Shotlink which EA promises to be fun to play that prioritizes gameplay over realism and a more fleshed-out career mode that has more RPG mechanics that let players choose where their career starts (i.e., through the amateur scene and the Korn Ferry Tour) and how their skills are spread.

Home of the Majors and the FedEx Cup  – As previously reported here at ClutchPoints, the game will be featuring the FedEx Cup . On top of that, players will be able to “live the fantasy” of chasing trophies and of course, the coveted Green Jacket, through the different Majors available to play in the game.

The World's Most Exclusive Courses – Augusta National, St Andrews, East Lake, Torrey Pines, and Riviera Country Club are just some of the thirty exclusive “Bucket List” courses that players will get to play in at launch, all meticulously modeled using photogrammetry obtained with the use of helicopters, planes, and drones for a more realistic, more authentic feel of the golf course.

Evolved and more accurate physics engine  – Using the Frostbite Engine and the aforementioned Shotlink and Trackmaster features in the game, EA Sports PGA Tour offers the most accurate and most precise shot swinging, hitting, and putting experience a golf video game can offer through its game's mechanics, so accurate that EA claims they expect PGA pros will use their game in testing their swings before using them in actual matches.

Career Mode and Multiplayer  – Players will be able to simulate an entire career of golfing which could lead them to the Majors and the PGA Tour, a journey that they don't have to do alone, as they can play with up to 16 players in the game's online multiplayer game mode, where all players golf simultaneously.

EA Sports PGA Tour Roster

Players can expect to either play as or play against the world's top PGA and LPGA Tour players, including the following:

• Danielle Kang
• Patrick Cantlay
• Lexi Thompson
• Jordan Spieth

All of the players part of the EA Sports PGA Tour roster have been rendered as realistically as possible using body motion and scanning technology, rendered using EA's proprietary Frostbite Engine.

Also included in EA Sports PGA Tour's roster is the commentary team. EA says that they put together a lot of resources to offer a presentation that makes it feel like the player is actually part of a live television broadcast. The game will feature hundreds of hours of recordings from the likes of Frank Nobilo, Rich Lerner, Notah Begay, Iona Stephen, and Sir Nick Faldo.

Of course, your own customizable character is also part of the EA Sports PGA Tour roster is included, which you can customize with loads of different apparel and gear from 40 notable brands like Bad Birdie, Titleist, Golf Pride, and TaylorMade.

EA Sports PGA Tour: Standard vs. Deluxe Edition

EA Sports PGA Tour will be launching in both Standard ($69.99) and Deluxe ($84.99) editions.

Preorders: Pre-ordering the game will give players a set of cosmetics for their player. The Standard Edition will have The PLAYERS Gear, The Grand Slam Gear Bundle, and the Scotty Cameron Putter. The Deluxe Edition will have 3-day early access before the EA Sports PGA Tour release date, early access to the Augusta National featuring a limited-time online tournament, and a PGA Tour XP Bundle to jumpstart their career in-game.

Deluxe Edition:  On top of the pre-order bonuses, players who purchase the deluxe edition will also receive The Masters Gear, The Grand Slam Gear Bundle, the Scotty Cameron Putter, 1,500 in-game premium credits, and The PLAYERS Gear.

PGA Tour Post-Launch Content:  Finally, EA Sports also promises to release post-launch content throughout the golfing calendar, featuring different aspects of the professional golfing scene. As the launch focuses more on thee Road to the Masters, future updates will then move on to the PGA Championship, the US Open, the FedEx Cup, and finally, the Ryder Cup.

EA's New PGA Tour Game Set For Spring 2023

EA's first new PGA Tour game since 2015 was originally expected to launch in Spring 2022, so it's been delayed an entire year.

EA Sports is getting back into PGA Tour golf games, but the road to release has been anything but smooth. The developer originally intended to launch the new PGA Tour game in Spring 2022, but it later delayed the game indefinitely . Now, it's been assigned a new release date: Spring 2023.

EA Sports PGA Tour will be EA's first new PGA Tour game since the poorly received Rory McIlroy PGA Tour in 2015. Since then, another rival series has started up--2K's own PGA Tour 2K.

2K's series, which is developed by HB Studios, skipped a release in 2021 but could return in 2022 . If it does so, it won't have to immediately compete with EA's game, but 2K has yet to confirm release plans. 2K has, however, announced that Tiger Woods will be a consultant on the PGA Tour 2K series .

EA Sports PGA Tour will include all four major championships, including the Masters, PGA Championship, U.S. Open, and The Open. It will also include The Players Championship and the FedExCup Playoffs, as well as the LPGA's Amundi Evian Championship . The game will have a career mode as well as "ultra-realistic" visuals powered by the Frostbite engine. Players can also control real-world PGA Tour players, but EA has yet to announce a full roster.

The new golf game also includes ShotLink and TrackMan data to help make the game more authentic. EA said it has access to "extensive amounts of data" to help make player ratings and swing animations more true-to-life.

EA's Tiger Woods PGA Tour series was very popular in the late '90s through the early 2000s and 2010s, but the 2015 rebranding with then-No. 1 golfer Rory McIlroy failed to spark the series back to the levels it enjoyed during its heyday.

‘EA Sports PGA Tour’ delayed until 2023

It was due for release this spring

EA ’s new PGA Tour game has been delayed until 2023, with the company offering no explanation for the 12-month push back.

Originally announced in 2021 with a spring 2022 release date , EA Sports PGA Tour will be the first in the studio’s new long-term deal with the PGA Tour and the first new PGA Tour title since 2015’s Rory McIlroy PGA Tour .

After announcing it would be “shifting the date” late last year, today (March 23) EA confirmed that the golf game will now be released spring 2023.

However alongside the delay, the studio has confirmed some more details about the game, including the inclusion of the four major golf tournaments.

“There are few things in sports that match the thrill of winning a major championship, and we’re excited to bring all four majors – the Masters Tournament, PGA Championship, U.S. Open Championship, and The Open Championship – and a true next gen championship golf experience to fans next year,” said Cam Weber – general manager at EA Sports – in a statement , before promising “players will be able to get an all-access pass to pro championship golf like never before.”

EA Sports PGA Tour will give players the ability to build virtual careers and visit many famous golf courses around the world. Also featured will be a slew of world famous golf players in the professional world, who players will be able to test their skills against.

In June, it was announced the game will feature women’s golf thanks to a partnership with the Ladies Professional Golf Association.

“For the first time, the LPGA Tour will be experienced in high-fidelity on next-generation consoles and will feature a wide breadth of women’s golfing representation,” said a statement. “EA Sports has done a great job in continuing to expand female representation in the various modes throughout the game and featuring women’s golf in an authentic and modern way.”

In other news, EA has confirmed that the late Diego Maradona has been suspended in  FIFA 22  for the foreseeable future.

A new message appears when players start up  FIFA 22  confirming the suspension, and explains that it’s tied to a “third party legal dispute”.

Well, we're about to be treated to the first Game 7 of the 2024 NHL playoffs, and it'll be the Toronto Maple Leafs against the Boston Bruins in Boston Saturday night. Joseph Woll registered 22 saves for Toronto, who'll try to capture the series after falling behind in the series 3-1. Woll has stopped 40 of the 51 shots that he's faced over the past two games.

Meanwhile, Boston has lost five consecutive series-deciding games dating back to last season when the heavily favored Bruins coughed up a 3-1 series lead to the Florida Panthers, the team that will play the winner of this series. In the other Eastern Conference series, the New York Rangers and Carolina Hurricanes will begin their series on Sunday in New York.

There are two Game 6s in the Western Conference on Friday. The Vancouver Canucks will look to close out the Nashville Predators in Nashville, while the defending Stanley Cup champion Vegas Golden Knights will look to extend their season when they host the Dallas Stars. The winner of the Canucks/Predators series will face the Edmonton Oilers, and the winner of the Stars/Golden Knights series will take on the Colorado Avalanche.

The structure of the playoffs is as follows:

• The division winner with the most points in each conference will face the second Wild Card team in the first round. The division winner with fewer points in each conference will match up with the top Wild Card team in the first round.
• Each series will be a best-of-seven format.
• Home-ice advantage goes to the team with the top seed in the first two rounds of the playoffs. The team with the most points in the regular season has home-ice advantage in the conference finals and Stanley Cup Final.
