I saw her last night in San Antonio, TX, it was my daughter first concert, and she did not disappoint. She is amazing live! Well worth the money spent. From the settings to the chorography her team did a fantastic job. The concert kept us on our feet the entire time. I will defiantly go see her again when she returns.

Truly amazing! Her performance was full of heaps of energy and soul. A beautiful mixture of singing, dancing and a quick preview of her of her acrobatic skills! One of the best musicians to see in concert. Would be darn near impossible to not sway and jump when she's on stage. I've waited so long to see her and she did not disappoint. Really hope to see SZA in London more!!!

Amazing show! Sza sounded amazing! She looked like she was having an awesome time while performing and the crowd loved her. The energy in the venue was hella dope! At one point she instructed security to find any cases of water around to pass out to the people on the floor, saying "get the cases from the tour bus." I thought that was super cool of her.

Of getting SZA to “talk her shit,” as he put it, on those songs, Versace said, “I believe that spiritually our ancestors, the people around us, they can use us spiritually for whatever we’re trying to convey. I feel like that’s something that she wanted to do. I feel, even though I was telling her to talk her shit, I feel like that was something that she wanted to do too. I feel like she never really got the chance to really do that.”

On Her Biggest Tour Yet, SZA Makes Small Feelings Huge

The R&B star’s first New York arena show supporting her blockbuster album “SOS” was a deft mix of styles and sounds, with guests Cardi B and Phoebe Bridgers.

SZA onstage in a blue jersey, singing into a microphone with her eyes closed as her hair blows back.

By Jon Caramanica

SZA’ s performance at Madison Square Garden Saturday night was vigorous, confident, theatrical and intimate — the sort of show that manages the rare trick of feeling both vibrantly communicative and also protectively insular.

But one particular five-song stretch encapsulated the range that has made SZA — whose second studio album, “SOS,” has spent 10 weeks atop the Billboard album chart — one of the most au courant performers of this era, a beacon for the vulnerable, the stubborn, the besieged and the broken.

A few songs into her set, she told the crowd that she was performing a song that hadn’t previously been part of the set list, and started into “Ghost in the Machine,” a plinking whisper about needing escape. A few moments later, out shuffled Phoebe Bridgers, the beloved indie-rock singer-songwriter who guests on the track, wearing a promo T-shirt for “Smell the Magic,” the 1990 album by the all-woman grunge band L7. They sang their parts, grinning at the improbability of it all, then deeply bowed to each other.

After that, SZA shifted into “Blind,” a quick-tongued acoustic soul number rich with lovely guitar curlicues, singing about all the walls she puts up, literally and figuratively: “You still talking ’bout babies/And I’m still taking a Plan B.” And after that, “Shirt,” a spacious thumper with echoes of 1990s R&B and a low center of gravity. Her voice, so breathy on the prior song, was tart here, as she worked through sinuous choreography with a quartet of backup dancers while sighing about taking “comfort in my sins.”

Then, another guest: the charisma machine Cardi B, who joined for “I Do,” which features a winningly cocky hook by SZA. (Cardi stuck around to perform her verse from GloRilla’s “Tomorrow 2” for good measure, much to SZA’s apparent glee.) And following that came “Smoking on My Ex Pack,” a grounded, earthen hip-hop song in the vein of, say, Earl Sweatshirt, in which SZA navigates romantic push and pull: “Them hoe accusations weak/Them bitch accusations true.”

It was, in sum, a 15-minute tour de force, spanning genres and modes, attitudes and feelings. It also felt utterly modern — indebted to the past but not beholden to it, unconcerned with old stylistic limitations, casually adroit.

On “SOS,” one of last year’s most impressive albums, SZA writes about situationships with microscope acuity, self-lacerating and scowling in equal measure. In the five years that she took between albums, she became more particular, more pointed and more adventurous. That was clear on the pop-punk number “F2F,” which channeled Paramore, and “Nobody Gets Me,” which, depending on the lens, either leans heavily on Mazzy Star, or on melodramatic alt-country. She performed that one with particular fervor, recalling female power rockers of the 1990s like Alanis Morissette.

This concert — the first of two sold-out nights in New York — was full of such peaks. The rapturous crowd met her up-tempo songs featuring dance routines with equal enthusiasm as her lonely ballads. On those, her voice was luscious, pure and full of nuance. (In this context, her more straightforward hits, like the Doja Cat collaboration “Kiss Me More,” or the songs with flickers of feisty verses from Kendrick Lamar, Travis Scott or Ol’ Dirty Bastard, didn’t much stand out.)

Uniting it all were water themes — she opened the show sitting on the edge of a diving board, as she does on the cover of “SOS,” here wearing a navy jersey bearing the name Yemaya, the Yoruba goddess of the sea. (She returned to that perch at the concert’s end, this time wearing white.) At the back of the stage, a huge screen displayed waters that increasingly turned choppy, then undersea life. Some of her onstage setups included a huge fishing vessel and an oversized anchor, though they were more props than narrative devices.

The show’s first section perhaps overindexed on choreographed numbers, but by midway through, SZA was soaring — first figuratively, and then literally, in a lifeboat rigged up to float above the crowd. Singing “Special,” a sweetly anguished song about self-doubt and jealousy, from up in the sky gave it a delicious inversion.

While many artists touring concerts of this scale build to a sort of triumphant ending, SZA’s concluding run before the encore felt more like a retreat inward — the quiet storm smolder of “Snooze,” followed by the head-nodding manifesto of jealousy “Kill Bill,” one of the most unsettling smashes of recent memory. She followed that with “I Hate U,” a scalding indictment that’s virtually lo-fi on record, but here took on epic scale. And then finally, “The Weekend,” a stunningly calm song about an anxious situation, a timeshare kind of love: “My man is my man is your man/Heard it’s her man, too.” But she didn’t sound even a bit unsettled. Everyone was singing along, protecting these private troubles with public comfort.

SZA performs at Madison Square Garden on Sunday. Her SOS Tour continues through March 23; szasos.com/tour .

SZA fans in Los Angeles now have two good days on their minds.

The “Kill Bill” singer says she is expanding her SOS tour, including adding two dates at Crypto.com Arena in L.A. on Oct. 22 and 23. The additions also include a dozen stops in Europe and more than 20 other concerts across North America. Presale for tickets starts at 10 a.m. Pacific on Thursday.

“Let’s RUN THIS BACK !!! EUROPE AND U.S. ROUND 2,” SZA posted on her Instagram on Wednesday afternoon , “plus some special surprises.”

Fans, including those who may have missed her the first time around, are thanking their lucky stars.

Following the release of her second studio album, also titled “SOS” — which spent 10 weeks atop the Billboard 200 chart — SZA toured from February to March. The final leg of the tour was held in Inglewood with a pair of sold-out shows at the Kia Forum. Those shows featured her floating above the audience in a lifeboat, a fixture throughout her tour.

SZA maintained the nautical theme of “SOS” throughout the concert, wrote Times music critic Mikael Wood , including a prop cargo ship, a giant inflatable anchor and an opening number she performed with her legs dangling off a diving board (as seen on the album cover). Behind her, a wall of video screens showed a calm ocean that gradually grew stormy.

In May, SZA will headline the Hangout Music Festival in Gulf Shores, Ala., alongside the Red Hot Chili Peppers , Paramore , Calvin Harris and Lil Nas X . Then, she’ll launch the European leg of her tour in June, starting in Amsterdam, followed by stops in Paris, Berlin, London and Zürich, Switzerland, among others.

Concert Review: The Musical Odyssey of SZA’s “SOS” Tour

SZA onstage at TD Garden on Sep 30, 2023

Embarking on a voyage into the depths of her artistic soul, the R&B star SZA’s Saturday concert at Boston’s TD Garden was more than memorable. As fans awaited SZA’s arrival to the stage, ominous silhouettes of seagulls soaring above a colossal LED box created a mesmerizing visual spectacle that set the stage for a musical journey reminiscent of a voyage across uncharted waters.

The “SOS” tour was a testament to SZA’s versatility as an artist. The album itself, with its cover depicting the artist perched on a ledge overlooking the vast ocean, delves into themes of isolation and personal growth, themes that seemed to resonate deeply with the audience from the onset of the show. As the show kicked off, SZA took her place on an onstage ledge mimicking the album cover before setting the tone with a performance of the introspective "PSA.”

The setlist then seamlessly transitioned into a dynamic blend of tracks from her debut studio album, "CTRL." The crowd erupted in screams of delight as SZA serenaded with hits like "Broken Clocks," “Normal Girl,” and "Drew Barrymore," her technical prowess evident as she effortlessly switched gears into songs from her first, soulful album, coded with the longing emotion of an artist finding her identity not only in the music industry, but as a person rendered miniscule in the magnitude of the world. There was something sentimental about hearing songs off of her first album — while the tour catered to her exponentially growing fanbase from her second album, she still pays homage to the roots of her success.

But what distinguished SZA's performance from other artists' tours was her remarkable ability to connect with her audience, especially evident during the choruses of the songs from her album "CTRL." In these moments, she took on the role of an accompanist, blending her harmonies seamlessly with the crowd's rendition of the original melody.

And while some might argue that the primary purpose of a concert is to listen to the artist sing, SZA managed to strike the perfect balance between her own vocal ability and audience participation. Her willingness to harmonize with the audience rather than overshadowing them allowed concertgoers to feel like an integral part of the performance, enhancing the overall experience and leaving a lasting impression.

Complementing her already electric stage presence, the lighting and set design throughout the performance were nothing short of spectacular. Colorful LEDs bathed the stage in hues reminiscent of an underwater world, perfectly synchronized with the moves of SZA and her backup dancers. An entire ship was built to follow the course of a journey across the sea, with a rotating lighthouse casting out a beam of light.

Every element of the performance was meticulously crafted to ensure that audience members would have an unforgettable experience. Each song matched the ambience of the stage: “Low” was performed atop a background of stormy, crashing waves, while “Kiss Me More” featured colorful, vibrant underwater sea scenes. It was evident that no detail was overlooked as from the carefully curated setlist to the intricate staging, everything played a crucial role in bringing the show to life.

Yet one of the most breathtaking moments of the night occurred when SZA appeared on a suspended orange lifeboat, sailing gracefully through the audience. A surreal spectacle which perfectly encapsulated the feeling of being adrift in a sea of emotions, her harmonies of ballads such as “Supermodel,” “Nobody Gets Me,” and “Gone Girl,” were only embellished by the expanse of fans with flashlights illuminating the stadium.

While singing "Good Days," in the show’s final act, the stage was transformed with the glow of a rising sun, casting a warm and hopeful light over the audience. This served as a poignant reminder that even in darkest moments, there's always a glimmer of light on the horizon. A surge of catharsis coursed throughout the audience as the concert came to an end, delighted by the show they had witnessed but already missing the onstage spectacle.

Through a blend of aesthetics and artistry, SZA took listeners on a musical voyage that was more than just a concert. It was not just a show for R&B enthusiasts, but a meaningful testament to SZA’S ability to forge meaningful connections among people on a deeper and more profound scale.

SZA’s ‘SOS’ Tour: A Visual Depiction Of Coming Into Full Bloom

  • Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below

SZA ’s SOS era isn’t a warning shot. Her first arena tour is a blaring alert, humbly juxtaposing “big d**k energy” and her return to the throne. Starring one of the few artists dominating R&B right now, the nearly two-hour experience is a literal live-action film —and arguably the most entrancing concert experience from a mainstream act in recent years.

Back in 2014, one of SZA’s earliest gigs was as an opener on Jhené Aiko’s Enter The Void Tour. Nearly a decade later, the First Lady of Top Dawg Entertainment is still graciously in awe of herself, having unleashed two successful albums that still chart on the Billboard 200 and earned a Grammy .

SZA Extends 'SOS' Tour In The U.S. And Europe

Fans swarmed the entrances of the Kia Forum in Los Angeles for the penultimate night of the SOS Tour, evidently ignoring the chilled weather based on their attire and humming melodies as they waited to see SZA take centerstage. When the lights cut to the show’s opening visuals, we were transported to sea, with seagulls heard flailing in the sky as waves crashed into one another. The woman of the hour appeared on a diving board singing “ PSA ”—the official teaser that ushered in the arrival of SOS back in November 2022—before jumping into the fictional deep end.

With full choreography and varying set designs, the story of SOS unfolded. On a boardwalk, the budding actress performed “Seek & Destroy,” “Notice Me,” “Love Galore,” and “Broken Clocks” prior to mellowing out the crown with an interlude medley featuring “Blind,” “ Shirt ,” and a cover of Erykah Badu’s “Bag Lady.” SZA then welcomed the audience backstage as she rapped “Smoking On My Ex Pack” and changed outfits for the third time. The stage became a boat aptly named “S.O.S. from the CTRL Fishing Company.” While aboard, she interpolated older and newer hits including “Garden (Say It Like Dat),” “Low,” “All The Stars,” and “Drew Barrymore.”

Amidst a treacherous storm, the boat was destroyed—a visual representation of her personal grief and heartache . The audience’s attention turned to a lighthouse until a familiar voice was heard from above in a lifeboat. “I’m writing this letter to let you know I’m really leaving/ And no, I’m not keeping your s**t,” SZA sang as she floated overhead. After transitioning from “Supermodel” into “Special,” she shared that after a failed engagement, her ex blocked her on everything and she was ultimately forced to start her life over—the perfect segue into her gutting ballad, “ Nobody Gets Me ” and the opposingly authoritative “Gone Girl.”

Figuratively riding a wave of commanding dominance with a massive anchor placed behind her, SZA jumped right into a slew of bangers like “SOS,” “ Kiss Me More ,” “Love Language,” “Snooze,” and “ Kill Bill .” The anchor represented impenetrable endurance while the waterfall that followed seemingly depicted a moment of clarity as she merged into “ I Hate U ” and “The Weekend.” As the dawn of a new day surfaced over the horizon and eventually bled into an array of stars illuminating the night sky, it signaled the “Good Days” ahead, a heartwarming conclusion to the show.

SZA birthed a new rendering of herself with her sophomore ascent without apology or explanation. The evidence is all there; no special guests appeared throughout the night and the overall tour amassed an estimated $34.5 million. SOS is currently certified double-platinum and spent 10 nonconsecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Selling out her 17-city arena debut was something that wasn’t once fathomable to the New Jersey-bred singer. ”I was literally scared to even try,” she explained on Instagram , but we’re glad she saw the freedom on the other side of her fears.

From a once fragile, lost twenty-something on CTRL to a now steadfast, resolute thirty-something teacher and student, the fluid narrative on the SOS tour exposes the art of not giving a f**k and how beautiful the journey back to yourself can be. What a good day to live rent-free in our minds.

Catch SZA do it all again later this year as the SOS Tour returns for its extended run in Europe this June and in the U.S. this September.

Concert Review: SZA’s ‘SOS’ tour is spectacular, what her opening performance means for the rest of the tour

The expectations for the “SOS” tour were high, and SZA may have exceeded them.

SZA’s long-awaited sophomore studio album “SOS” was released December 2022, with her official announcement only days before its release, according to her Instagram. In the two and-a-half months since the album’s release, it has dominated the charts and social media platforms, like TikTok. Her most popular song off the album, “Kill Bill” has over half a billion streams alone, according to Spotify.

“SOS” follows her 2017 major-label debut album “Ctrl,” landing in the number one spot of Billboard’s top R&B albums and certified platinum three times, according to Billboard .

Less than a week after the release of “SOS,” SZA announced the “SOS” North American tour Dec. 13, 2022, on Instagram. Her first arena tour includes 17 American cities — such as New York City, Chicago and Los Angeles with opener Omar Apollo. SZA and her team decided to open the tour at the Schottenstein Center in Columbus, the first ever arena performance for both Apollo and SZA.

Although SZA performed at a variety of festivals, her hiatus of over five years from touring created anticipation for “SOS.” In Columbus, the Schott was filled with an excitement that most other tours are unable to replicate.

Apollo arrived on stage shortly after 8 p.m. His performance was raw, and he was able to bring the passion, energy and emotion that was needed to set the evening’s tone. Notably, Apollo performed his newly released song “3 Boys” for the first time. Apollo was also visibly enjoying his time onstage and performed his viral hit “Evergreen,” which the crowd loved. Although his performance was highly enjoyable, it felt a bit short with it being around 30-40 minutes. The crew immediately began setting up the set when he left the stage, which after watching the show, the amount of time they needed to set up is understandable.

As the crowd anxiously awaited for SZA to appear onstage, it was clear that this experience was one that many in the crowd had dreamed of. Their anticipation filled the atmosphere with the positive hum of excited chatter.

From the moment that SZA arrived onstage, it was clear that her mission was to tell a story. The show opened with the onstage screens projecting images of water, similar to her album cover. One of the screens lifted and revealed her sitting elevated above stage on a diving board, singing the unreleased “PSA”. From there, the screen descended down to cover her again, but projected the visual of a woman, presumed to represent SZA, jumping into the water. The show began as if it were a movie with opening credits “presenting” SZA.

The screen once again opened, and she began performing “Seek and Destroy.” SZA, alongside four dancers, began performing a rigorously choreographed dance, beginning the night with high energy. Her next song, “Notice Me,” continued this and SZA had a playful, fun tone.

The set and the show took the audience on the journey of a shipwreck — hence the title “SOS.” SZA’s discography can be said to do the same thing, taking listeners through emotional experiences — such as heartbreak, joy and vulnerability. SZA had moments that allowed the audience to experience these emotions several times throughout the night.

The show consisted of an extravagant set design, multiple costume changes and meticulous choreography. However, none of it outshined SZA’s outstanding vocal performance. All of these moving parts considered makes her ability to perform at such a high level even more impressive.

SZA performed multiple songs off of “Ctrl,” such as “Love Galore,” “Broken Clocks” and “Prom,” but the fan favorite may have been “Drew Barrymore.” Whether it be the song’s relatable lyrics, or infectious tune, the Columbus crowd had a strong connection to it.

After one of SZA’s many wardrobe changes, one of the screens lifted to reveal a large boat that had been built onstage while she was performing and changing. From here she began performing “All the Stars,” and the screens were able to simulate the ship sailing through sea.

Later in the show, this same ship began sailing through a storm — seemingly the climax — during SZA’s performance of “Low.” SZA and her dancers performed with intensity and after this song, the boat splits and sinks. Suddenly, a raft appeared on the side of the stage,  and SZA — who had yet again changed her outfit — got into the raft which was then suspended in the air and floated above the audience. This moment was truly ethereal, as SZA sang some of her more emotional songs — such as “Supermodel,” “Special” and “Nobody Gets Me” — while tossing flower petals off of her raft.

When SZA eventually floated back down to the stage, she continued with the shipwrecked theme, with the screens projecting underwater scenes. However, she switched things up for her performance of “Kill Bill” paying homage to the titular Quentin Tarantino series with red lighting and fight choreography.

SZA ended her show and her story with a performance of “Good Days.” She sat and sang in a large billowing red dress on an elevated platform above the stage, the same one she initially started on. The visuals projected showed the sun rising over the ocean, the calm after the storm, which then transitioned into nightfall, overlooking the Earth and Moon. The end of the show served as a reminder to the audience that despite the call for SOS, there are always good days to look forward to.

As the show ended, the screen closed over SZA like a curtain, projecting “The End” in cursive stars. The credits then rolled, to indicate the end of the “movie.”

SZA’s opening show of “SOS” established her not only as a talented singer and songwriter, but as a true performer and storyteller. She managed to tell a cohesive story all while delivering a performance of the highest caliber. SZA left Columbus and the Schott with an exciting, memorable show that she hopefully continues to deliver for the duration of her “SOS” tour.

Review: SZA’s ‘SOS Tour’ rides the high seas, finally making it to South Philadelphia

“Philly!,” she exclaimed, “I’m sorry I wasn’t here,” the singer said to an arena full of fans, referring to her postponed March show and cancelled Made in America appearance.

SZA performs at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia on Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2023. SZA was supposed to play Wells Fargo Center in March, but the show was canceled at the last minute. SZA was also supposed to headline Made in America with Lizzo, but that was also canceled.

SZA began her voyage at the Wells Fargo Center on Tuesday sitting high above the stage, on the edge of a diving board against video backdrops that made it appear like a vast expanse of water.

The tableau, inspired by a 1997 photo of Princess Diana, was recreated on the cover of SOS , the pop star’s second album which topped the Billboard charts for 10 consecutive weeks after it was released in December.

At that time, SZA — born Solána Imani Rowe and raised in Maplewood in North Jersey (graduating from the same high school as Ms. Lauryn Hill, who plays the Wells Fargo on Oct. 23 ) — said that she chose the image of Diana “because I loved how isolated she felt.”

The show was opened by 18-year-old R&B balladeer D4vd (pronounced “David”) who had much of the mostly female, mid-teens-to-early-30s crowd singing along to his hit “Emotional Homicide.”

So is SZA lost at sea? Hardly. On the contrary, since she emerged with her breakout album Ctrl in 2017, she’s skillfully navigated her way as a confident genre-splicer, broadly classified as an R&B artist but equally at home with pop-punk, electronic, and rap.

That’s particularly true on the 23-song, never-dull SOS . Songs from the album made up the bulk of the brisk, creatively staged and nautically-themed 1 hour, 40 minute show. It included hits by Kendrick Lamar and Doja Cat that SZA has guested on, as well as a cover of Erykah Badu’s “Bag Lady.”

But what’s more impressive than the way SZA moves between musical stylesis how her songs convey a broad emotional range, moving from anguish and exultation to self-doubt and rage.

SZA doesn’t fit the “singer-songwriter” stereotype. You won’t find her sitting on a stool strumming an acoustic guitar. But she makes music that is often spare and subtle, with quiet spaces between the notes. “Sad girl energy has always been my energy,” she told the New York Times this year .

And that interior approach strikes a chord. Before the show, I was talking with a woman who was bummed to not have tickets. “I love her,” she said. “She’s so calm.”

That peaceful quality presented a challenge — and ultimately made for a triumph — at the Wells Fargo Center, where the “SOS” tour finally arrived on a rescheduled date of a show originally slated for March. Her Made in America headlining set was also canceled . (SZA briefly apologized at the start on Tuesday and then carried on.)

Connecting with intimate music in a cavernous arena, of course, is made much easier when most everybody in the audience knows the words to every song.

And that was largely the case on Tuesday as SZA, who’s 33, grappled with her own personal evolution and adulthood in ways that resonated with her fans.

“I’m used to feeling alone, I thought that I’d let you know,” she sang in “Special.” And in “Gone Girl” — which cleverly nods at Hall & Oates’ 1973 hit “She’s Gone” - she sang about her need to grow as a human, leaving former selves behind.

In a season of oversize concerts that’s included Beyoncé riding high above Lincoln Financial on a silver horse and Pink ziplining across Citizens Bank Park , SZA delivered the goods with her own uniquely compelling high-flying spectacle.

Creatively speaking, SZA — who briefly studied marine biology at Delaware State University in Dover — put her aquatic imagination to work in the tour design. Using a series of backdrops and video screens, a variety of optical illusions were created.

After the second song, “Seek & Destroy,” the singer seemed to fall off her diving board and splash into the ocean on stage. Wow, did that really happen?

No. And neither did the barge, on which SZA, and her four dancers and highly adaptable band named CTRL performed, break apart. The CGI seas got dangerously rough, but it sure looked cool when it did.

Later, in an “Under the Sea” segment, the set included a giant anchor, and sharks and other creatures seemed to swim by. But the most intriguingly odd and dramatically gripping section of the show came when SZA — in a hot-pink two-piece princess dress — climbed onto a life raft that carried her out above the crowd.

A lighthouse that could have been imported from the coast of Maine rose off the back of the arena floor and shone its beam on the star of the show. She didn’t fall off the raft, and neither did she miss a beat as she sang about love and alienation and the all-important need to be understood, whether by a soul mate, or her audience.

“I’m only like myself when I’m with you,” she sang, seeking self-definition in front of 20,000 fans. “Nobody gets me - you do.”

Here’s SZA’s set list from the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia on Sept. 26, 2023.

Grammy-award-winning music trendsetter and icon SZA will continue her touring trek with four shows at The O2 this June. She’ll be joined by British pop sensation RAYE.

The 2023 tour follows SZA’s hugely successful sophomore album, SOS, which was released in December and earned the superstar the record for the largest streaming week for an R&B album in the United States. The album also claimed ten non-consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart - the most among albums by women in seven years. During the first run of the S.O.S. Tour earlier this year, SZA gave unforgettable performances night after night. The platinum recording artist performed  classics like “Love Galore” and “The Weekend” in addition to newer mega-hits such as “Kill Bill,” and “Shirt.” Fans also got to experience special performances from a number of surprise guests including Phoebe Bridgers, Cardi B, Summer Walker, Lizzo and more.

The S.O.S. Tour marked SZA’s first-ever arena tour and earned the superstar endless praise, with Rolling Stone noting that “SZA lives up to all the anticipation” on opening night. The New York Times called her Madison Square Garden headlining debut “vigorous, confident, theatrical and intimate — the sort of show that manages the rare trick of feeling both vibrantly communicative and also protectively insular,” while Billboard proclaimed that the performance “delivered a message that she’s truly made a next-level step in her career.”

Born in St. Louis and raised in Maplewood, NJ, genre-defying, and GRAMMY Award winning recording artist SZA released her major label debut album Ctrl (TDE/RCA) in 2017. Revered for its raw and honest lyrics, it landed at No. 1 on Billboard’s R&B Albums chart, No. 2 on the R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart and No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart, according to Nielsen Music. The now RIAA-certified 3xPlatinum album received five Grammy nominations in 2018 and more than half the songs on Ctrl are currently certified multi-Platinum and Gold. Ctrl remains on the Billboard 200 chart since its release in 2017 and holds the record for the longest run for any Black female artist’s debut album. In 2022 alone it sold over 600,000 units and is the 10th best-selling female album this year in the country and 50th best-selling album in 2022 overall.

To close out the trying year of 2020, SZA gifted fans on Christmas Day with the hopeful track “Good Days.” Grammy-nominated for Best R&B Song, the single quickly became SZA’s greatest gaining solo single release, peaking at #9 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and marking her first time in the chart’s top ten as the main artist. December 2021, SZA scored her second lead artist top 10 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart with the official release of “I Hate U,” which debuted at #7. The song also entered at #1 on both Spotify and Apple Music US charts and broke the record for the most streamed R&B song by a female artist on Apple Music in its first week.  Fan favorite “Shirt” has garnered over 60 million streams globally since its release in October.

On December 9, 2022, SZA released her long-awaited sophomore album SOS.  Instantly and universally met with acclaim, SOS debuted and claimed ten non-consecutive weeks at #1 on the Billboard 200, the longest run for an album by a woman in seven years. Standout track “Kill Bill” is RIAA-certified 3x Platinum and earned the #1 spot on the Billboard Global 200 chart and several Apple Music and Spotify charts globally. Currently RIAA-certified 2x Platinum, SOS includes features by Travis Scott, Don Toliver, Phoebe Bridgers and Ol’ Dirty Bastard; with production by Ctrl hitmaking collaborators ThankGod4Cody and Carter Lang, alongside Jeff Bhasker, Rob Bisel, Benny Blanco, Kenny “Babyface'' Edmonds, Emile Haynie, Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins, Jay Versace, and more.

To this day, SZA continues to set the standard on creativity and songwriting, while shattering records with over 10 billion streams worldwide across all platforms. SZA has won various awards since the release of Ctrl including a 2022 GRAMMY Award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for “Kiss Me More” with Doja Cat, Billboard Music Awards’ Top R&B Female Artist, BET Awards’ Best New Artist, BET Soul Train Awards’ Best R&B/Soul Female Artist and Best New Artist, MTV Video Music Awards’ Best Visual Effects for the “All The Stars'' with Kendrick Lamar, and NAACP Image Awards’ Outstanding New Artist. In 2019, she won NAACP Image Awards’ Outstanding Duo or Group for “All The Stars” with Kendrick Lamar and Outstanding Soundtrack/Compilation for the Black Panther Soundtrack. SZA also received Billboard’s 2019 Women in Music Rule Breaker award. More recently, SZA was crowned the 2023 Woman of the Year at the Billboard’s Women in Music Awards and won iHeart Radio Music Awards for R&B Artist of the Year and R&B Song of the Year for “I Hate U.”

SZA in Sydney: S.O.S Tour tickets, times, set list & everything you need to know

Your ultimate guide to SZA's Sydney concerts

Winnie Stubbs

The cutting-edge Grammy-winning  singer-songwriter  herself,  SZA , is on Australian soil – and fans across the country are playing her  S.O.S  album on repeat in preparation for the upcoming shows.  The indefinable pop powerhouse –  whose musical style combines elements of R’n’B, hip-hop, soul, and chill electronica –  announced the initial dates for  the Australian leg of her S.O.S Tour back in February. She was set to take over  Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena  for two consecutive nights in April, but after the first two shows sold out in moments, SZA added an additional show on Friday, April 26.

So why are SZA fans so hungry to see this musician perform live? We chatted to Sydney-based fan Ava, who saw SZA back in 2018, and they told us: "She was everything." Aside from the chance to sing along to hit songs like 'Kill Bill' and 'I Hate U' with a whole stadium of people, Ava explained that SZA creates a space that is really special for queer community, and "especially for sapphics and POC folks who don't often feel represented in those spaces". Slay.  Here's what we know so far about SZA's upcoming Sydney shows.

When is SZA’s S.O.S Tour in Sydney?

SZA will take to the stage at the Qudos Bank Arena (after previously hitting Brisbane for two shows) for her first Sydney S.O.S Tour concert on Tuesday, April 23. She will also perform on Wednesday, April 24, and Friday, April 26, before heading down to Melbourne for three additional shows.

What time will SZA come on stage?

All gates to Qudos Bank Arena will open at 6pm, and the music will kick off at 8pm, with Californian R&B curator SiR as the opening act. We can’t be 100 per cent sure exactly what time SZA will come on stage.

What can I bring to SZA Sydney show?

There are specific rules for what you can and can’t bring to SZA’s S.O.S tour in Sydney. Here are the main things to remember. You can bring: One bag no larger than 20cm x 15cm You can’t bring: Backpacks, selfie sticks, professional cameras, umbrellas, alcohol, cigarettes, e-cigarettes, or bicycles. A heap of other items you may or may not have been considering bringing along are also prohibited, so it’s worth checking the conditions of entry over here .

Are there any SZA tickets left?

This won’t come as a shock to anyone, but demand for SZA tickets has been through the roof. So much so, that the star added additional dates for both her Sydney and Melbourne stops. General allocation for all dates is currently exhausted, but you can join the waitlist  for resale tickets  over here .

What’s the full setlist for the SZA S.O.S tour?

The exact setlist for SZA’s Sydney shows hasn’t been confirmed, but based on her recent Auckland shows, we can expect the setlist to look a little like this:

  • Seek & Destroy
  • Love Galore
  • Broken Clocks
  • Forgiveless
  • Ghost in the Machine
  • All the Stars
  • Garden (Say It Like Dat)
  • Drew Barrymore
  • Nobody Gets Me
  • Normal Girl
  • Kiss Me More
  • Love Language
  • The Weekend
  • Rich Baby Daddy

Who will be supporting SZA in Sydney?

Californian R&B curator SiR will be joining SZA on the line-up – get ready to groove. Stay in the loop: sign up for our free Time Out Sydney newsletter for more news, things to do and travel inspo, straight to your inbox.

Plan Your Visit

A distinct force in contemporary R&B, SZA has set herself apart with a vulnerable and casually poetic songwriting style and a voice conveying a multitude of emotions with subtle twists and turns.

She established herself with a trio of spaced-out EPs and collaborations with the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Nicki Minaj, and Rihanna, and continued her ascent with Ctrl (2017).

These accolades proved to be no fluke, as SZA earned almost as many Grammy nominations the next year by assisting Kendrick Lamar with “All the Stars,” a Top Ten hit, only one in a slew of platinum singles she has scored as a headliner or featured artist.

SZA

SZA is always going to make her voice heard. During her last of three shows at Spark Arena in Auckland, New Zealand, as a part of her long-running SOS Tour, the Grammy-winning “Kill Bill” singer threw vocal support behind the Palestinian people.

SZA to Be Honored by Songwriters Hall of Fame With Hal David Starlight Award

In fan-captured footage from the Tuesday (April 16) concert, she proclaims, “Free Palestine!” while holding what appears to be the Palestinian flag. As soon as SZA completed the phrase, the crowd cheered uproariously as the superstar continued her onstage banter.

Trending on Billboard

Since Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack on Israel , a devastating war has been raging across Gaza and the West Bank, killing and injuring untold thousands of civilians.

The “Saturn” singer’s support of Palestine comes a few years after she opened up about her Muslim roots to Muslim Girl’s TikTok live series in commemoration of Muslim Women’s Day.

“For me, Islamophobia really kicked in fresh after 9/11. I am from a small suburban town where people have good intentions, but they’re inherently maybe closed-minded and it’s not their fault,” shared SZA, who grew up Muslim. “I think that it’s a privilege to exemplify modesty in its forms and in a closeness to God and to explore different avenues of connection with the human form, with yourself and others. And I feel like it’s very bizarre, sometimes, the general misconceptions that come and go about Islam. Violence has no connection whatsoever.”

Feid is officially on tour! On Apr. 24, the Colombian artist kicked off his 2024 Ferxxocalipsis Tour at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, CA, giving his fans a glimpse of what to expect for his biggest arena tour.

Fans can look forward to an exciting setlist including hits like “Normal,” “LUNA,” and “Feliz Cumpleaños Ferxxo.” The highly-anticipated tour starts with animated figures talking to each other on the screens, then goes straight into “ALAKRAN.” Right after, the singer performs “50 PALOS,” “CHIMBITA,” “Lady Mi Amor,” “Castigo,” and “BUBALU,” in the first half of the show. Towards the end of this section, he slowed down the hype with an acoustic version of “FERXXO 30,” “Prohibidox,” and “PORFA.”

As far as the stage design goes, he uses giant digital screens that amplify the star to a bigger-than-life status in the center of the venue. The innovative stage also has stairs that allow the singer to reach a higher platform. The structure overall gives Feid the opportunity to be near his fans from various angles . There are also disco balls to give a nightclub feel to the performance.
