Hapag-Lloyd Cruises fleet

Hanseatic spirit, hanseatic inspiration, hanseatic nature, ms europa 2, review of hapag-lloyd cruises.

Hapag-Lloyd Cruises (officially Hapag-Lloyd Kreuzfahrten, hl-cruises.com) is a premium travel brand a Hamburg Germany -based company part of TUI AG (via its subsidiary TUI Cruises GmbH ). Between 2017-2020, Hapag-Lloyd Cruises was fully owned by Hapag-Lloyd AG (German-Chilean shipping company, one of the world's oldest) which is currently ranked the world's 5th largest container shipping line in terms of fleet capacity.

On February 7, 2020, TUI AG (aka TUI Group) announced that Hapag-Lloyd Cruises (as of 2020 valued ~EUR 1,2 billion / ~USD 1,36 billion) becomes part of TUI Cruises (50-50 joint venture between TUI and RCCL-Royal Caribbean ). The contract was signed in Hamburg (on Feb 7), the cash transaction from RCCL (~EUR 700 million) was closed on July 6, 2020. The company's current CEO is Julian Pfitzner.

The Hanover Germany-based TUI AG (British-German multinational) is currently ranked the world's largest leisure and travel company. It was founded in 1923 and until 2002 was named "Preussag AG". TUI Group's companies specialize in hospitality and tourism services worldwide, with a portfolio including passenger airlines, cruise shipping (shipowner), package vacations, hotels and resorts, travel agencies, retail shops.

Company history

The Hapag-Lloyd company was founded in 1970 as a merger between two of Germany's oldest steamship companies - "Hamburg-Amerikanische Packfahrt-Actien-Gesellschaft" (Hapag) and "Norddeutscher Lloyd". Both companies were created in the 1840s for shipping freight and passengers via Transatlantic crossings between Germany and the USA.

On July 12, 2017, TUI AG sold its remaining 8,5 million shares in Hapag-Lloyd AG, which raised about EUR 244 million. The operation was an open market block trade (Accelerated Book Building) to a guaranteed minimum price close to the day’s market closing. Prior to this trade (March 2017), TUI AG disposed of a total of 6 million Hapag-Lloyd shares in individual open-market transactions. By disposing of all its Hapag-Lloyd shares, TUI AG concluded corporation's non-core business disposal program defined after the TUI AG and TUI Travel PLC merger in December 2014. The revenues were used for TUI's tourism business (hotel brands and cruise ships).

In 2017, the brand Hapag-Lloyd Cruises reported record average daily rates of EUR 594 (pp per day) or an increase of 2,6% over 2016. In 2017 the company also reported highest-ever customer satisfaction and quality ratings. Company's average daily ticket prices increased as follows - 2011 (EUR 399), 2012 (EUR 420), 2013 (EUR 450), 2014 (EUR 536), 2015-2016 (EUR 579), 2017 (EUR 594).

For FY2018 (fiscal year), TUI Group's earnings (from the 3 cruise brands - TUI, Marella, and Hapag-Lloyd) increased by 10,7% - to EUR 901,9 million. Company's turnover was EUR 324 million (26,8% increase over 2017). Group's average daily rates increased to EUR 178 euro (TUI, up from EUR 173), EUR 141 (Marella, up from EUR 131) and EUR 615 (Hapag-Lloyd, up from EUR 594).

From July 2020 onwards, HL's fleet will use only LS-MGO (low sulfur marine gasoil) with max S content 0,1%).

Hapag-Lloyd cruising experience

As a product, HL Cruises offers higher-end luxury travel deals, featuring:

All Hapag-Lloyd's cruise liners offer in-port and shipboard experiences ranging from zodiac expedition to luxury. Vessels are budget-wise, as fares are on the high side. Hanseatic and Bremen are expedition ships with the highest given to passenger ships E4 ice-class rating allowing year-round Antarctic and Arctic navigation. Bremen is 4-starred, while Hanseatic is 5-starred and with upgraded enrichment and cuisine, plus larger cabins.

The launch of the first Hapag-Lloyd newbuild - Europa 2 - was in May 2013. The project was aimed at the ultra-luxe market and younger, more active and less luxury-minded travellers, including families (with kids facilities for toddlers to teens). MS Europa 2 is the brand's most contemporary and chic liner, featuring dynamic and sophisticated entertainment ranging from jazz club to kitchen studio (for cooking classes). Its appeal is to younger, less luxury-minded cruisers, including families.

Hapag-Lloyd's all-suite liners Europa 1 and Europa 2 provide the largest space-per-guest ratio of any cruise ships currently on the market. All Europa 2 staterooms have balconies. The Hapag-Lloyd has also marketed MS Europa 2 as company's "bilingual ship", reaching international customers with enhanced activities geared to English-speaking passenger sourcing.

Next is shown Hapag-Lloyd's new expedition cruise ship design. Three such Polar-Class vessels are currently under construction and scheduled for launch in 2019 - Hanseatic Inspiration (October) and Hanseatic Nature (April) and 2021 ( Hanseatic Spirit ).

The newbuilds are of the same design (sisterships), each with max capacity 230 passengers (199 passengers on Antarctic cruises), 3 restaurants, extensive wellness area, water sports marina (aft), a fleet of Zodiacs (large-capacity inflatable boats used for landings and shore tours).

On July 3, 2018, VARD Holdings Ltd and Hapag-Lloyd Cruises signed a shipbuilding contract for a 3rd HANSEATIC-series vessel (Spirit). The new ship is scheduled for delivery in 2021 Q2. All ships in the series have their hulls built by VARD Tulcea shipyard (Romania) .

In late-February 2019, Hapag-Lloyd announced a user-friendly digital concept for onboard learning never seen before on expedition vessels. The new "study wall" is available on the fleet's three new Hanseatic ships (Inspiration, Nature, Spirit).

The innovative touchscreen technology (screen size 6x1,8 m / 20x6 ft) allows passengers to research information and various topics related to the ship's current cruise itinerary destinations. The digital Study Wall was developed over a 2,5-year period via a partnership with two German ( Hamburg -based) companies - Intermediate Engineering GmbH, and mpg ErlebnisRaumDesign GmbH.

Digital content (articles, biographies, photos, videos) is divided into 5 categories. Most of the information is provided by GEOMAR ( Kiel Germany ), also by journalists, scientists, and experts. The Study Wall is located in Knowledge Studio (Wissens Atelier / Deck 8). The research facility also has four Study Seats (with touchscreens to explore the content), Study Poster (visual scientific explanations), a dedicated area for microscope research.

In mid-August 2017, MS Bremen (now Seaventure/1990-built) received "Polar Code" certificate that allows the vessel to operate in polar regions. All its fleet mates were also due to receive the certificate by Hapag-Lloyd’s 2018 Arctic season. Polar Code (adopted by IMO) contains regulations about polar cruise vessels' construction and onboard equipment, as well as crew training requirements. In 2017, as part of the HL fleet's routine drydocks , all ships were brought in line with the Polar Code's requirements. MS Bremen was scheduled to operate 3 Arctic cruises (2018-2019 season), including one Northeast Passage (summer 2018).

(Coronavirus crisis) passenger shipping pause 2020-2021

Due to the COVID pandemic, Hapag-Lloyd suspended its entire fleet's passenger shipping operations (all liners) by canceling all voyages with pre-scheduled departures in the period March 18, 2020, through May 2021.

HL cruise operations resumed in 2021 on May 24 (Hanseatic Inspiration/Baltic), July 9 (Hanseatic Nature/Norway), August 14 (MS Europa/Baltic from Hamburg), October 2 (Hanseatic Spirit/Asia-Japan), October 3 (Europa 2/Canaries).

All affected bookings received full refunds, including on prepurchased through HL packages and services. All current voyages were completed by March 21, 2020.

Itinerary of Hapag-Lloyd Cruises

Currently, Hapag-Lloyd offers a wealth of "high-end luxury" cruises for well-heeled travellers. The line's signature destinations are the Mediterranean and Northern Europe, as well as the Caribbean, Asia, Australia, plus expedition itineraries to Antarctica and Alaska (Northwest Passage).

The current Hapag Lloyd cruise fleet includes the following vessels:

  • ms Europa (1999)
  • ms Europa 2 (2013)
  • Hanseatic Inspiration (2019 October), Hanseatic Nature (2019 April) and Hanseatic Spirit (2021) are newbuilds /sisterships, each with max passenger capacity 230 (199 on Antarctic cruises), 3 restaurants, an extensive wellness complex, aft water sports Marina Platform.

On January 15, 2019, Hapag-Lloyd announced that MS Bremen was sold to Scylla Cruises and will be officially delivered to the new shipowner in May 2021. As of 2019, Scylla owned 31 riverboats, most of which are chartered to different European cruisetour companies.

Together with the introduction of expedition cruise catalogs for the 2020-2021 season, Hapag-Lloyd Cruises also announced that low-pollutant MGO (marine gas oil) is to be exclusively used on all routes of its expedition ships (Hanseatic Nature and Hanseatic Inspiration) from July 2020. Joining the fleet in 2021, Hanseatic Spirit is also expected to use the fuel.

The use of low-sulfur fuels in the Antarctic has been mandatory for a number of years and Hapag-Lloyd Cruises already uses marine gas oil voluntarily in sensitive regions like the Arctic and Kamchatka. The low-pollutant fuel features a sulfur content of just 0.1%. In addition, the new expedition ships do not only feature an SCR catalytic converter reducing nitrogen oxide emissions by almost 95% but are also fitted out to use cold ironing.

The fleet of Hapag-Lloyd Cruises is also equipped with seawater desalination technology producing clean water, and with biological sewage treatment plants. Ships' bow thrusters and stabilizers run on bio-petroleum which is environmentally-friendly.

Highlights from the routes of Hapag-Lloyd expedition fleet in 2021 include:

  • Hanseatic Inspiration sets sail for the Antarctic 10 times, including on a 23-day itinerary from Tierra del Fuego to South Africa through the Antarctic. The journey stretches from Cape to Cape ( Cape Horn to the Cape of Good Hope).
  • A change of travellers in Goose Bay, northern Canada is a first as Hapag-Lloyd Cruises’ expeditions have never started and ended there before. It makes it possible to combine a couple of spectacular expedition destinations - the icy landscapes of Greenland and the remote region of Labrador.
  • Travellers can enjoy the Arctic experience on a couple of cruises on Hanseatic Inspiration. The South Africa voyage is another first, in which Hanseatic Inspiration is due for the first time to circumnavigate “the cape of wild animals”, sailing from Cape Town to Walvis Bay .
  • Hanseatic Inspiration also offers expeditions in Europe and passengers can explore the Azores, the British Isles, and the coastlines of the Baltic and North Seas.

2 ships of Hapag-Lloyd Cruises built for the international marketplace,  ms Europa 2  and HANSEATIC inspiration, are scheduled to restart the operation of bilingual sailings from January 2022. The 5-stars plus ms Europa 2 commences the  New Year  in the Indian Ocean - on  Reunion Island ,  Mauritius , and Seychelles; and heads on to South Africa,  Cape Verde , and the Canaries, visiting  Madeira  and the Azores.

For international passengers onboard expedition cruise ship HANSEATIC inspiration, the destinations awaiting in 2022-2023 include the Great Lakes of North America; Antarctica and the Arctic; South America (the  Panama Canal  and Chilean Fjords) Cape Verde, and the Canary Islands.

Northwest Passage cruises

Hapag Lloyd was the world's first cruise line with a Northwest Passage Cruise itinerary. In 2011, MS Bremen became the world's first-ever cruise ship crossing the Passage from Kangerlussuaq Greenland to Nome Alaska . In 2012, MS Hanseatic (now RCGS Resolute) made a full transit with a 25-days itinerary leaving from Nome AK (on August 14) and ending in Reykjavik Iceland (on September 7).

(animal cruelty) The Faroe Islands cruise boycott

In mid-July 2016, Hapag-Lloyd became one of the three cruise ship companies (together with Disney and AIDA ) that have banned Faroe Islands (a Danish territory) as destination part of their North European itineraries.

The boycott is due to the island nation's traditional mass slaughter of pilot whales each year. The protected by Denmark gruesome practice of killing whales is called “Grindadrap Grind". Locals use motorboats to drive a pod of whales into a harbor. The defenseless animals are dragged to the shallow water and brutally slaughtered by locals armed with knives (16-19 cm / 6-8 inches long) while their families cheer them on. The killing party even rip out baby whales from their mothers.

The Faroe Islands have a population of about 50,000 and kill each year 1000+ pilot whales. You can see the cruise ship schedule of Torshavn - Faroe's most visited port. All cruise lines with scheduled visits to the Faroes are accused of supporting the brutal whaling practices. Whaling is still officially approved and carried out by the "civilized" countries Japan, Norway and Iceland, killing over 2000 whales each year and trading in whale products.

HL's response was to the "Faroese Pilot Whaling Act" by the local government, which continues to allow pilot whales to be culled or massacred. It also empowers local authorities to imprison (for up to 2 years) people found guilty of impeding these whaling activities - despite all the international condemnations.

Sea Shepherd and Greenpeace are among the largest organizations taking direct actions against the "Faroese Pilot Whaling Act". Most of the available online haunting images of slaughtered whales lying in a sea of blood are released by these organizations.

HANSEATIC inspiration

MS Hanseatic Inspiration is a luxury expedition cruise ship built in 2017 for Hapag-Lloyd Cruises . She offers in-depth exploration in several of the world’s most remote regions, including Antarctica, the Arctic and more tropical destinations such as the Caribbean and Amazon.

Catering to no more than 230 guests (dropping to 199 for sailings in Antarctic), MS Hanseatic Inspiration is the perfect choice if you are looking for a cruise on a modern vessel that combines five-star onboard luxury with facilities more commonly found on sea-hardened expedition ships.

MS Hanseatic Inspiration Cabins & Suites

The accommodation on Hanseatic Inspiration is divided between two main categories; cabins and suites. There are four different grades of cabin, two with private balconies and two with large picture windows.

All of the cabins on MS Hanseatic Inspiration are equipped with everything you will need to enjoy a comfortable journey no matter where you are in the world, including an en suite bathroom (complete with a rain forest-style shower), a mini-bar, an entertainment system and a heated wall for drying wet weather gear.

There are two grades of suite on MS Hanseatic Inspiration. As you might expect, these are larger than the cabins and boast private verandas, private living quarters, a dining area and even steam sauna – perfect for warming up after a day exploring ashore in the polar regions.

MS Hanseatic Inspiration Restaurants & Dining Venues

There are three dining venues on MS Hanseatic Inspiration. The ship’s main restaurant is the dining hub and here you can enjoy a mouth-watering variety of freshly prepared dishes, served at your table. The main restaurant can serve up to 178 guests and is available on an open-seating basis.

Those looking for something a little different are advised to book a table in the ship’s speciality restaurant. With creative menus designed to bring to together exciting flavours from Japan and Peru, and set amongst a pleasing backdrop of wood paneling and large windows, this unique dining option is a must if you wish to give your taste buds a real treat.

Finally, a third venue – The Bistro – offers a more informal option, as well as the choice to dine outside under an open sky should you wish.

MS Hanseatic Inspiration Entertainment & Facilities

Onboard Entertainment:

As MS Hanseatic Inspiration primarily functions as an expedition ship, the entertainment onboard cannot be compared to similar sized vessels offering more ‘classic’ cruise experiences. Instead, the entertainment is designed to be educational and enriching. Examples of this are the HanseAtrium, which is used to host the ship’s briefings and lecture programme; and the Ocean Academy, an interactive space designed for those with an interest in science.

For drinks and relaxation, the HanseAtrium is open during the evening, while the ship’s Observation Lounge provides the perfect environment for catching up with new friends.

Facilities:

For exploration ashore, MS Hanseatic Inspiration has a fleet of Zodiacs which can be deployed up to twice daily, depending on the conditions. These are used to carry guests to landing zones or to observe wildlife at close quarters.

MS Hanseatic Inspiration also has a water-sports marina located to the rear of the ship. In warmer climates, such as the Amazon, guests are offered the opportunity to borrow equipment such as paddle boards and kayaks in order to indulge in a little independent exploration.

Every voyage on MS Hanseatic Inspiration is accompanied by a multilingual Expedition Team who will lead excursions ashore and all lecture programmes.

Other facilities include:

  • Spa & Fitness Suite
  • H6,781 square foot pool area
  • Sun-deck (with two glass balconies that extend over the ship’s edge)

Hapag-Lloyd Cruises: What to Expect on the Luxury MS Europa 2 Ship

When you have a cruising itinerary from Spain’s Palma de Mallorca to Portugal’s Lisbon, there’s little doubt that the ports of call would be nothing short of spectacular. Really…what’s not to love about exquisite food, rich history and seemingly endless sunshine? But, what makes it even better is getting to these stops via the Hapag-Llyod Cruises, especially when you are on the luxury MS Europa 2.

Hapag-Llyod Cruises is a master of exceeding expectations, paying attention to the smallest details of day-to-day life onboard and having stellar service.

Hapag Lloyd Cruises: What to Expect on the Luxury MS Europa 2 Ship

About hapag-lloyd cruises.

Hapag-Llyod Cruises has a very long history of being an innovator in its field. In fact, they essentially were the leaders in cruising. It all began in 1891 when the Auguste Victoria, Germany’s largest passenger ship, embarked on the world’s first-ever pleasure cruise.

From there Hapag-Llyod Cruises only continued to grow. Over a century later, they are now known for providing small, luxury cruises to places near and far. They travel from the Middle East to Africa to Antarctica, and everywhere in between.

They pride themselves on 5-star service with the attitude of leaving ‘no wish unfulfilled’. And I loved it.

The Ms Europa 2

Each of their four ships has its own charm and are luxurious, but the contemporary MS Europa 2 takes it a step further by being awarded ‘the best cruise ship in the world’ and the distinction of 5-stars-plus by the Berlitz Cruise Guide 2018. It was easy to see why they earned this coveted title, they always seemed one step ahead in exceeding guest expectations—they knew what I wanted even before I did!

I can’t stress enough the attention to detail that is taken aboard the MS Europa 2. Even the ships layout has guest comfort in mind. It has more space per person than any other ship and almost as many staff as guests aboard. Large windows provide plenty of natural light and their open concept design means that the windows can be seen across any room and from almost anywhere onboard so that guests don’t find claustrophobic.

Very similar to the MS Europa, their MS Europa 2 was introduced as a more international alternative. All crew onboard is bilingual: German and English. A majority of the passengers were German, but it was never an issue because the staff was bilingual.

The guest capacity of the ship is capped at a cozy 500, but it won’t feel like there’s nearly that many people even when it’s sold out, because it has the greatest space per passenger ratio. Which means that I never had to wake up at 6:00am to claim a lounge chair! There were always plenty available.

Food & Drink

There are a number of fantastic restaurants onboard the MS Europa 2 and did my due diligence by eating at them all!:

  • Restaurant Elements: This is the go-to restaurant for delicious Asian infusion meals.
  • Restaurant Serenissima: This light and airy restaurant serves Italian Mediterranean food that will have you believing ‘nona’ is cooking in the kitchen. Gourmet pasta, and pizzas are abundant.
  • The Yacht Club: Food at the Yacht club is enjoyed with panoramic views of the sea in an open air setting or under the outdoor canopy. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are all served buffet-style. Don’t pass up their beautiful ice cream bar and definitely get a big scoop of Black Vanilla everyday (I did!).

Hapag Lloyd Cruises: What to Expect on the Luxury MS Europa 2 Ship

  • Restaurant Sakura : This onboard sushi restaurant serves only the freshest sushi creations in a modern setting.
  • The Weltmerre: It is the largest restaurant onboard with an international and vegetarian gourmet menu that changes every single day.
  • Restaurant Tarragon: Decorated in an attractive art deco style, the food and interior design at this French inspired restaurant will make you feel like you’re sitting street side at a Parisian bistro. Don’t miss the beef tartare!

Food and drink doesn’t stop there though. The MS Europa 2 opens up their Grande Reserve wine cellar for private tastings. For an extra fee, small groups are led in the tasting by the ships resident sommelier. They are often accompanied by delicious food pairings.

Also, there is a culinary school that operates off-hours in the Tarragon kitchen. The chef will teach participants the tricks of the trade. After which guests can take home the skills to recreate French masterpieces in their own kitchens.

Unique to MS Europa 2 is their outstanding gin collection at Collins Bar, it is the largest at sea. It has over 45 matchless gins behind its bar, and can dish out up to 140 different gin and tonics. Their gins come from all over Europe and beyond, but the majority are distilled in the UK—the birthplace of gin.

We sipped on our fair share of gin cocktails throughout the duration of our cruise and even did a gin tasting! You’ll have to try it when you make it aboard. But keep in mind, that as it is also a cigar bar, so smoking is permitted inside.

Other bars include:

  • The Piano Bar: This swanky venue is popular for early evening drinks. It closes at 10pm, but while it is open a talented pianist is always on hand to entertain patrons with elegant lounge music.
  • The Jazz Club: This space has everything you would expect from a Jazz club—dimly lit, smoky, and serene. You’ll be transported back to the 1920’s the minute you step through the door. Smooth singers and small bands perform at this intimate venue nightly.
  • Pool Bar: The Pool Bar is open all day and you guessed it… this bar is snuggled up next to the pool. Drinks are available all day, but at night the pool chairs are often cleared away from an impromptu dance party.
  • Belverdere: A few alcoholic drinks are available here but the Belverdere is more-so a daytime tea room. Belverdere closes at 6pm… just in time to begin thinking about getting ready for dinner.
  • Sansibar: The MSEuropa 2’s most notorious bar. The DJ turns out tunes into the wee hours of the morning. It is half indoor, half outdoor with a dance floor to boot.

Onboard Entertainment

hapag lloyd cruises shop

After an evening cocktail we would typically head out to see the ship’s evening entertainment . On the Europa 2 there is always a show in the ship’s theater, or comedy and cabaret in their Club 2. While onboard, I particularly liked the professional dance show in the ships theater.

Hapag-Llyod Cruises prides itself on its multi-faceted entertainment program . Outside of their nightly entertainment there were daytime activities like meet and greets, lectures, cooking classes and, of course, pool-time.

They have an outstanding art collection onboard which features over 800 phenomenal works—the most valuable collection at sea. This is not your typical cruise-line art, it took over 2 years to select the unique assortment and each piece has a story. You can not only see them in the small gallery, but all throughout the boat.

The MS Europa 2 is not an adult’s only cruise line, families and kids are always welcome onboard. As such the ship has a vibrant kids program . I heard kids first hand asking to ditch dinner to go back to it. Because all children are different, they offer a variety of clubs for all ages and their childcare specialists make sure their days are filled with fun!

One afternoon there was a pleasant surprise, the captain agreed to drop down the Zodiacs and take the passengers on a Zodiac ride around the boat while it was at sea. As if that isn’t cool enough, they had one boat filled with champagne and another with musicians. Talk about a bucket list worthy experience!

All the rooms onboard are suites (yes, you heard me right!) and have their own veranda. This is a luxury in itself, but there was so much more. I stayed in the 301 square foot Veranda Suite. This outstanding space had large windows with great views and plenty of natural light. There was a living area, huge bed and well-equipped bathroom, as well as a private deck with two sun loungers. The mini bar is complementary and came stocked with welcome champagne, beer and soft drinks.

Did I mention a walk-in closet? It was bigger than the one I had at home!

Hapag-Lloyd Sets Out Challenges of Biofuel Bunker Procurement

Hapag-Lloyd Sets Out Challenges of Biofuel Bunker Procurement

Ilyas Muhammad is head of green fuels at Hapag-Lloyd. Image Credit: Ilyas Muhammad / LinkedIn

An executive of container line Hapag-Lloyd has set out the challenges the shipping industry faces in seeking to procure biofuel bunker blends at a scale sufficient to help it decarbonise.

Ilyas Muhammad , head of green fuels at Hapag-Lloyd, discussed the availability of biofuels and other alternative fuels in a recent podcast hosted by the Port of Rotterdam .

"Of course there is a limitation of biofuel availability, if you look at the overall numbers," Muhammad said.

"Only 9 million mt/year of biodiesel production is there which can process used cooking oil or animal fats as feedstock.

"Out of that 9 million mt/year, we have only 460,000 mt/year of bottoms of that product, which is FAME residue, which the maritime sector can consume while not competing with road transport or other sectors.

"It's a tiny quantity -- if you look at the overall consumption of the maritime sector, it's 320 million mt/year, so there's a big, big gap.

"That's why it's very challenging to scale up biofuels; there is no production capacity there, and secondly the feedstock is also not there."

Hapag-Lloyd  consumed about 213,000 mt of biofuel blends last year, up from 120,500 mt the previous year.

The firm consumed a total of 3.97 million mt of bunker fuels in 2023 , down by 4.1% on the year.

MS Bremen ms-bremen

Bremen was launched in 1990 and re-fitted in 1993. Operated by Hapag-Lloyd Expedition Cruises, she can accommodate up to 164 passengers across 6 decks. The cruises aboard Bremen and Hanseatic, her sister ship, focus on exploration of their destinations, and are best suited to German-speaking passengers who consider themselves explorers. Thanks to her good manoeuvrability, she can reach less accessible destinations, such as the polar region.

Accommodation

Bremen offers two different types of accommodation, Suites and Outside Cabins. While the furnishings are thoroughly comfortable, the staff is personal and attentive – the cabin service team is at your disposal from 7am-10pm every day and will gladly serve breakfast or a selection of dishes as desired. And while you are reading a good book or getting into the mood for the next destination with the forward-view camera, refreshing beverages are at your fingertips in the mini bar, which is replenished on a daily basis – free of charge, as a matter of course. Could there be a more beautiful home for the duration of an expedition? Plenty of space for your belongings and a well-equipped mini bar which is replenished free of charge every day round off the comfort of your cabin. Whether you fancy a night cap at the end of an eventful expedition day or an enthralling bedtime read – our 24-hour cabin service staff will be more than happy to fulfil your little and big wishes. Very personal, very individual – only an expedition aboard the BREMEN can be this comfortable.

Food & Drink

Enjoy diverse tastes against a backdrop of the most beautiful expedition regions: be it a relaxed breakfast under the open sky, a hearty BBQ lunch on the Lido Deck or dinner in the restaurant with an exquisite menu recommendation.
