The application may inquire if you are willing to travel and what kind of region you would be willing to work in. Some assignments may be in rural areas while others focus on the urban duties. The fewer restrictions you place on your application will increase your chances of being chosen.

Closing Dates of Travel & Tourism Internships

Closing dates vary for each intern program. It is crucial to read the application carefully and attach all requested documentation in clear, legible print. Each question should be answered honestly and thoughtfully. To ensure a good match, detail your experience including duties and activities. Applications that are incomplete will not be eligible for contact.

Stipend & Rewards

Many of the companies offering internships do pay a stipend to defray the cost of lodging or travel. Every business has its policy regarding expenses. It is customary for only the short list applicants to be notified of the further action. If you haven’t heard of your application in 3 months, you are eligible to apply other places.

Table of Interests

If you have been searching for Travel & Tourism Bursaries for South Africans 2024/2025, travel and tourism bursaries 2024, department of tourism bursaries 2024, department of tourism bursary online application, tourism bursary 2024, department of tourism bursaries 2024, tourism bursaries in south africa, hospitality bursaries 2024, bursaries for 2024 , then you are in the right place.

WHAT IS A BURSARY?

According to Wikipedia , A bursary is a monetary award made by an institution to individuals or groups of people who cannot afford to pay full fees. In return for the bursary the individual is usually obligated to be employed at the institution for the duration as the bursary. According to The Good Schools Guide , a bursary is “usually for helping out the impoverished but deserving and those fallen on hard times.

According to The Hobsons UK Boarding Schools Guide , numerous independent schools have bursary capability, namely grants from the school to help pay education fees. These are usually awarded after a “means test” of family income and are not necessarily dependent on examination performance, although some account of academic ability will be taken. Bursaries may be awarded in addition to scholarships where financial need is demonstrated and the prospective student would otherwise be unable to enter the school.

To obtain such a bursary, it is customary for parents to be asked by the school’s bursar to fill in an application form, giving details of their financial circumstances, supported by documentary evidence, including capital assets. The application will be considered by the school in accordance with its bursary policy. The award will often only remain in force until the pupil has sat the next relevant public examination . Most schools will review bursaries annually to ensure that the justification for an award remains. In Britain any award made before GCSE will not necessarily continue to the A-level stage.

Bursaries are similar to “ scholarships ” or “ prizes “, which are based on performance. These awards are generally given for good performance in the exams preceding university or college entrance in which the student achieves grades above the standard entry. These can be awarded by universities or, sometimes, by companies

THINGS TO KEEP IN MY WHEN APPLYING FOR A BURSARY

A lot of students are usually confused when it comes to scholarship or bursary application. When they have answered the most difficult question of where to start, then the other process becomes seamlessly easy for them. Basically that’s why we have decided to include this post to enable you successfully apply for bursaries especially for this year to aid your academic cause. The following are those important things to note before applying for a bursary.

  • Most bursaries will request for your Latest Academic Record duly signed from your school, your ID document, evidence of tertiary application and most importantly an authentication that you were accepted. Similarly, some bursaries will require you to provide another proof of Guardians or Parent’ source of income and residence. After successfully sorting out these documents, then your next step is to ensure you verify your documents. If you don’t know how to, simply visit any commissioner of oath at a post office, bank or police station.
  • Integrity they say is telling myself the truth while honesty is telling the truth to other people. Honesty is more than not lying. It is truth-telling, truth speaking, truth living, and truth loving. Therefore, you must ensure that whatever information you are providing is the truth and nothing but the truth. Fill all blank spaces with correct data. No legacy is so rich as honesty.
  • A whole lot of students apply for bursaries without having any references at all and in other cases have references that can’t be reached. Most times this is the first step to not getting the bursary you have applied for. If you need the bursary you are applying for and you want it, then go ahead and find references with correct contact addresses.
  • A lot of students also don’t have enough writing skills to win their desired bursary which can prove to be a stone in the neck in the long run. Therefore it is highly advisable that you write a highly convincing and motivational cover letter that will make anyone accessing it believe before he begins to even read it. Things such as why you think you should be awarded the bursary especially more than the other several thousand applying, how you can contribute to society when you have finished your program in school and especially how getting the bursary will be a stepping stone to achieving your dreams and changing your future for good.
  • A lot of students apply for bursaries and go to sleep which is very bad. When you apply for any bursary, ensure you regularly and consistently check your Emails and your phone text messages to be sure you have not or have received a message from those assessing your application.
  • Lastly, ensure you always check for bursary deadlines or closing dates so you can know exactly when to apply.

Bursary gives Boksburg student hope

Students had to have an interest in studying business, commerce or a related course at any university or college..

tourism management bursaries 2023

When hope seemed lost for 18-year-old Orefile Murwa, her successful bursary application brought her an opportunity to pursue her studies.

Orefile is a driven young lady who matriculated from Balmoral College, Boksburg, in 2023 with an average of 85%. When in high school, business studies, history and tourism were among her subjects.

She strategically chose them to later benefit her choice of study after high school.

Life-changing project

The Glen Shopping Centre annually runs a competition offering prospective students an opportunity to win a bursary worth R60 000 and amazing prizes from ValueCo, Computer Mania and Estoril Books.

To be eligible for the bursary, students must have matriculated in 2023 and visited The Glen Shopping Centre website to fill out the form before January 21, along with a comprehensive motivational letter on why they should be the winner of the bursary.

Also, to win students must have an interest in studying business, commerce or a related course at any university or college.

The bursary-choosing process entailed candidates submitting their details, matric results and acceptance letters to a tertiary institute.

From there, all the entries were submitted to a panel of judges where a first, second and third candidate was chosen by each judge. Ten candidates were invited to an interview with the panel of judges which included the GM of the centre, ward councillor Michael Crichton, head of management studies at Varsity College, Doreen Mukuku and Grolife life coach, Leonie du Preez.

The Glen Shopping Centre marketing manager, Jess Denner said: “We aim to position ourselves at the heart of the community through educational initiatives. The programme was set in motion with the idea of changing lives and making education possible. We are thrilled to be part of this exciting new journey for Orefile Murwa. Her determination and resilience are truly inspiring.”

A discovered opportunity

“I come from a humble background as my family is not wealthy and my parents are unable to afford to pay for my studies. I spent a lot of time searching the internet for bursaries when I discovered The Glen Bursary competition and I applied.

“I was motivated to apply not only because of my financial situation but merely because winning would be a return on investment and my dedication to academic excellence made me the perfect candidate to win,” expressed Orefile.

The bursary gives Orefile the opportunity to study law as she has always desired growing up. She is currently a first-year LLB Law degree student at the University of the Witwatersrand which is a four-year course.

“We were 10 candidates who were shortlisted for interviews and I highly doubted that I would win. However, after the interview, I anxiously anticipated the confirmation call,” emphasised the winner.

She added that suddenly her area did not have any signal when she saw a missed call from a landline number. “I remember running around trying to find a signal,” she said laughing.

“It was an emotional moment when I heard I was the winner; I cried. I believe that it was by the grace and mercy of God that I was chosen. I thought I was going to have to take a gap year because I applied for many bursaries but none were successful which caused me to lose all hope.”

Despite her emotions running high and the challenges she endured, Orefile was excited to win and so was her family.

Her academic and future goals

Orefile hopes to get distinctions through hard work and dedication. She also hopes to make herself, her family and her sponsor proud.

“I’ve always wanted to study law and I am grateful to The Glen for the opportunity and the support of my family. To me, law is the root of all things as it governs the structure of the world and everything in it. If all goes well, I hope to someday become a chief justice officer,” said Orefile.

  Tourism Transformation Fund

The Tourism Transformation Fund (TTF) is a dedicated capital investment funding mechanism established by the Department of Tourism in collaboration with the National Empowerment Fund (NEF) and focusses specifically on financial support for black entrepreneurs investing in projects in the tourism sector. The TTF aims to drive transformation in the tourism sector in a more direct and impactful manner that will not only assist black-owned tourism enterprises to expand and grow, but also to catalyse the rise of a new generation of black-owned tourism enterprises to propel the tourism sector to greater heights.

The TTF provides a combination of grant funding, debt financing and equity contributions to facilitate capital investment in the tourism sector by black entrepreneurs. The grant funding portion is used to reduce the approved loan finance and/or equity contribution by the NEF, where commercial viability of the tourism project has been established.

Through the partnership, the NEF is responsible for administering the TTF, including the receipt and processing of all applications.

The pilot phase of the TTF which opened in May 2018, went through a review process in 2021 which led to an increase in the grant funding provided to successful applicants and also the consideration of projects funded by other Development Financial Institutions (DFI's).

The Department's grant contribution for approved applications, is limited to 50% of the total loan finance and/or equity contribution approved by the NEF and is capped at a maximum of R5 000 000 (Five Million Rand) per beneficiary.

Co-financing tourism transactions between the NEF and/or other accredited Development Finance Institutions (DFI's) is allowed under the Fund. Any such arrangement needs to be agreed to by the NEF.

APPLICATION PERIOD

Applications for the revised TTF are open from 1 October 2021 and the Department of Tourism invites prospective applicants to submit applications to the NEF .

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

  • Applicants should submit completed application forms and supporting documents directly to the NEF, who will assess commercial viability and compliance with the programme eligibility criteria.
  • More detailed information as well as an application form and checklist can be downloaded from the NEF website: https://www.nefcorp.co.za/products-services/tourism-transformation-fund/
  • All applications and enquiries should be sent to: [email protected]
  • Note that incomplete applications will not be considered for funding.

Prospective applicants are advised to be wary of people purporting to be representatives or agents of the programme.

Please note that the NEF and the Department of Tourism have not appointed agents or consultants to assist enterprises with the preparation of applications. The use of, and payment of any fees to consultants to assist with an application, is at the discretion of the applicant.
