Sonequa Martin-Green Talks About Exhausting Last Day On Set For ‘Star Trek: Discovery’

It was awesome! Love that this season is a kinda sequel to TNGs The Chase. So many great Easter eggs. Loved the Soong type android… and the Roman ship… and did anyone else notice the tribble in the hall of Disco? Such fun.

You’re spoiling a lot here. Please don’t be this specific.

You can watch it for free, so spoilers are fine. If you are worried about them, why are you here? I’m here to hear a discussion on the episode.

The season preview shown at the end of the first episode had a quick shot of what looked like a constitution class starship. I’m actually excited to see how this season plays out.

Legacy ships.

Silly me for giving Discovery credit for being the only show not to rely on nostalgia-bait.

Any excuse to trot out the same tired complaint, huh?

When Trek stops troting out the same, tired nostalgia-bait, I’ll stop complaining. I wouldn’t get your hopes up.

For the love of God what exactly is wrong with building off previous canon from within a franchise? It’s not that they are playing off general interest nostalgia like pogo sticks and oldies music. And you know what? I love nostalga? Life is to short and painful at times. Let us be serviced

In 50 years people will look back at all of Star Trek as Nostalgic. So does it really matter in the long run?

You’re absolutely right.

PUSH THE FRANCHISE *FORWARD* AND BUILD NEW CANON AND LORE THAT PEOPLE IN 50 YEARS WILL BE NOSTALGIC ABOUT.

You have GOT to stop gatekeeping the right way to handle references in this franchise and dictating an end to pulling anything from previous canon.

I keep telling you this is not a normal franchise – it has 58 years of stories it can interconnect with and reference and build from. That’s a rare privilege for the writers and the fans, long term or no. There is no precedent for our situation beyond Doctor Who and Star Wars, really, and I’d say by telling stories that span 1000 years of continuity, Star Trek has done better than Star Wars which until Dawn of the Jedi has been hyper focused on a small sliver of time and space.

OMG did you see what register number that was??? #nospoilers

Calm down. It was in a preview for the season, and it was a blink and you’ll miss it shot.

I saw that too. And it reminds me that (I can talk about spoilers of this ep now right?)

The Progenitors or the idea of them did not originate on TNG’s the Chase. They were a theory of Spock as to why so many species across the galaxy are humanoid and that an ancient race must have populated several worlds across the Galaxy.

Why is the old guy in the ep keep referring to the Projenitors of a 1000’s of year old secret? The very notion that they are responsible for humanity makes them millions if not billions years old.

I took that as it’s the secret of their existence that a thousand years old- not the race themselves.

Ahhh gotcha.

Has anyone ever noticed that The female Progenitor not only looks like a changeling but is also played by Salome Jens? HMMMM…..

I’ve always noticed that… and always hoped that it was just a coincidence. “The Chase” was strong enough on its own without Changeling conspiracy theories throw in.

Plus, the Changelings only adopted their “solid faces” to mimic Odo’s poor shifting abilities and make him feel more comfortable with his own people.

"Red Directive" is streaming for free for one week only.

The Big Picture

  • Join the crew of USS Discovery on their final mission for free on YouTube.
  • In Star Trek: Discovery Season 5 premiere, Captain Burnham and her crew face a top-priority mission involving mysterious cargo on a Romulan vessel.
  • New episodes of Star Trek: Discovery Season 5 arrive every Thursday on Paramount+.

The USS Discovery has set out on its final mission — and you can join them for free. The premiere of Star Trek: Discovery 's fifth and final season is streaming now on YouTube. Unfortunately for any international or intergalactic fans, it's available in the United States only. In "Red Directive," the premiere of the series' final season, Captain Michael Burnham ( Sonequa Martin-Green ) and her USS Discovery crew are assembled for a top-priority mission by Federation official Kovich ( David Cronenberg ) — the "red directive" of the title. The mission concerns a centuries-old Romulan vessel that contains a mysterious cargo.

Burnham calls on some old friends to help out, including Saru ( Doug Jones ), Sylvia Tilly ( Mary Wiseman ), and even her disgraced ex-lover Cleveland Booker ( David Ajala ) — but they also have to face off against a new pair of deadly adversaries who will do anything to ensure that they get their hands on the treasure first. Want to know what happens next? To see the next episode, which also premiered this week, and the rest of the season-long treasure hunt, you'll have to subscribe to Paramount+, where you can also see Discovery 's previous four seasons and Paramount's galaxy of other Star Trek series (except for Star Trek: Prodigy — you'll need a Netflix account for that one).

What Is 'Star Trek: Discovery'?

The first of Paramount's new wave of Trek series — and the first Star Trek TV series since the cancelation of Star Trek: Enterprise in 2005 — Discovery initially took place in the 23rd century, before Star Trek: The Original Series , and chronicled the adventure of the USS Discovery , a ship with an experimental "spore drive" that allowed it to travel further and faster than any other ship in Starfleet. The Discovery and her crew endure a punishing war with the Klingons, an encounter with the twisted Mirror Universe , and a clash with Starfleet's secretive Section 31 intelligence agency and its malevolent artificial intelligence before being hurled centuries into the future. There, Discovery helps rebuild the Federation after a devastating disaster and becomes one of the fleet's finest ships. The series also spawned a spin-off, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds , which follows the pre-Kirk USS Enterprise and its captain, Christopher Pike .

Discovery 's fifth season is currently earning rave reviews from critics, with a 93% "Fresh" rating on Rotten Tomatoes. In her review , Collider's Samantha Coley praised the storytelling of the season, noting that "each storyline gets the breathing room it needs without making the show feel unbalanced or creating any lulls in the less action-packed sequences."

Star Trek: Discovery 's fifth-season premiere, "Red Directive", is now streaming on YouTube for free , but you'll have to subscribe to Paramount+ to see how the rest of the season unfolds, with new episodes arriving every Thursday. Stay tuned to Collider for future updates, and watch "Red Directive" below.

Did you know

  • Trivia The Starfleet vessels seen in the first season, including the Discovery, the Shenzou and the redesigned Enterprise, were all designed by production artist John Eaves. Eaves' work with Star Trek spans three decades. Probably his most notable contribution was the design of the Enterprise-E for Star Trek: First Contact (1996) .
  • Goofs With Michael being the adoptive sister of Spock, the series has many flashbacks to their childhood and upbringing on Vulcan. Spock's Vulcan half-brother, Sybok, does not appear nor is mention during these scenes. In Star Trek V: The Final Frontier (1989) , Spock says that he and Sybok grew up together. However, since it's never stated when Sybok joined Sarek's home - only that he did so following his mother's death - or when he was exiled from the family, it's not impossible Sybok moved in after Burnham, and left before she graduated (the two extremes of the flashbacks). Also, since Sybok was never mentioned before Star Trek V, it seems reasonable the family never spoke of him again after his estrangement.
  • Alternate versions The serif-font legends and subtitles in the "broadcast" episodes are absent from the DVD versions, where they are replaced with the standard DVD subtitles.

‘Star Trek: Discovery’ free live stream: How to watch Season 5 premiere, release date, cast

“ Star Trek: Discovery ” is back for a fifth and final season, with a two-episode season premiere on Thursday, April 4 (4/4/2024) to kick off a 10-episode season that will bring the U.S.S. Discovery and Captain Michael Burnham’s franchise-reigniting story to a close.

STREAM: “Star Trek: Discovery” new episodes on Paramount+ (free trial) .

“Star Trek: Discovery” first premiered in 2017, and kicked off a wave of new “Star Trek” storytelling that helped drive new subscribers to CBS All Access, which was still finding its footing in the streaming service wars, and was later rebranded as Paramount+. It was the first new “Star Trek” TV series since 2005′s “Enterprise,” and since then, the franchise has debuted five new Original Series, including “Short Treks,” “Picard,” “Lower Decks,” “Prodigy” and “Brand New Worlds.”

Here’s everything you need to know about Star Trek: Discovery Season 5.

When does ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ Season 5 premiere?

The first two episodes, “Red Directive” and “Under The Twin Moons,” will be available to stream, on demand, starting Thursday, April 4. An official release time hasn’t been announced, but Paramount+ is known to release new episodes at 3 a.m. ET/12 a.m. PT.

Check out the trailer:

How can I watch ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ Season 5 for FREE?

Sign up for Paramount+ and enjoy a 1-week free trial that includes both new episodes of ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ as well as all four earlier seasons on demand. After your free trial, Paramount+ costs $5.99/month or $59.99 per year, or $11.99/month or $119.99/year for an ad-free experience that also includes Showtime.

New subscribers enjoy the 1-week free trial no matter which level of services they choose.

Paramount Plus  is an on-demand, over-the-top streaming service from Paramount, which includes content from Paramount-owned brands like CBS, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, MTV and more. Many Paramount-owned TV shows appear the day after broadcast on the service, and it is the exclusive home of Paramount Plus originals, like Yellowstone spinoff “1883″ or Star Trek spinoff “Picard.” It also airs live NFL and UEFA Champions League games, plus live, 24/7 news from CBS News.

Who is in the ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ Season 5 cast?

How many episodes are in ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ Season 5?

Season 5 includes 10 episodes. That starts with a two-episode premiere, followed by eight weeks of one episode per week.

What happened last time on ‘Discovery’?

The crew of the U.S.S. Discovery is still in the far flung future — as far forward in the canon “Star Trek” timeline as any series has gone, in fact. Last season, the crew was up against another cataclysmic threat, the Dark Matter Anomaly (DMA), capable of destroying entire worlds. The DMA was caused by an extra-galactic race known as the Ten-C, and Discovery was able to solve the problem with successful first contact before it wiped out Earth and Ni’Var, the rechristened home world of the united Vulcan and Romulan people.

What is ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ about?

According to a description from Paramount+, “The fifth and final season will find Captain Burnham and the crew of the U.S.S. Discovery uncovering a mystery that will send them on an epic adventure across the galaxy to find an ancient power whose very existence has been deliberately hidden for centuries. But there are others on the hunt as well…dangerous foes who are desperate to claim the prize for themselves and will stop at nothing to get it.”

How to Watch Star Trek: Discovery Season 5 Online from Anywhere

Star Trek Discovery S5

Star Trek: Discovery is ready to launch the U.S.S Discovery into the crew’s last epic adventure across the galaxy. Star Trek: Discovery Season 5 premieres on Thursday, April 4, 2024 , on CBS and fuboTV in the US, CTV Sci-fi Channel, CTV.ca, and The CTV app in Canada, and Paramount Plus in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and more.

However, these services are geo-restricted. For instance, you cannot watch Star Trek: Discovery on Paramount Plus if you travel or live in some countries because the service can read its user’s physical location via their IP addresses and displays an error message in blocked areas. But there is a simple way to overcome this small setback.

A VPN is a legal way to circumvent the geo-restrictions and stream Star Trek: Discovery Season 5 from anywhere by making you appear in the US. You can easily achieve this once you run the VPN app using a US server on your device. This step changes your IP address to match a US one and removes the error.

Paramount+ Geo Block

A VPN circumvents the geo-blockade and removes any error message. It’s really easy to achieve this, as you only need to turn on the VPN app on your device using a server from a territory where the streaming platform works. You can choose a US server to make it seem like you are in America by changing your IP address to a US one, which enables you to stream Star Trek: Discovery Season 5 anywhere in the world.

NordVPN is one of the best VPNs . We strongly recommend using it to unblock Paramount Plus, fuboTV, CTV, the CBS website, and all live TV and streaming services.

6,300+ servers in 111 countries. Easily unblock services, Fast and stable connection, No logs, No bandwidth limits, Military-grade encryption, 24/7 live chat support, and 30-day money-back guarantee.

'Star Trek: Discovery' season 4: Release date, how to watch and everything we know about the series

Everything you need to know to watch 'Star Trek: Discovery.'

Star Trek: Discovery

Star Trek has existed in our universe (and presumably everywhere else in the multiverse) for more than 50 years. In that time we've grown from the early days of Capt. Kirk, Spock and Bones, to Picard and Riker and Data. The legacy has lived on beyond The Next Generation , with spinoffs Deep Space Nine , Voyager and Enterprise on TV, and a parallel series of films with an all-new cast.

And with Star Trek: Discovery — the first to live exclusively (more or less) on a dedicated streaming service and not on traditional terrestrial television — we've got a next, next, next generation of Trek.

Discovery pushed back from the proverbial space dock in September 2017 at what was then CBS All Access but is now Paramount Plus. Since its debut, it has firmly planted its flag in the universe not just of science-fiction, but in dramatic television as a whole.

Star Trek: Discovery season 4 will return in the near future, but let's catch up on what you might have missed and everything else you need to know about the series.

'Star Trek: Discovery' season 4 release date

After releasing the first seven episodes of its fourth season on Paramount Plus in November and December 2021, Star Trek: Discovery is slated to return with new episodes of season 4 on Feb. 10 .

More Star Trek: Discovery is on the way after that, as Paramount Plus announced that it had renewed the original series for season 5.

How to watch 'Star Trek: Discovery' in the U.S.

Paramount Plus is the standalone streaming service for ViacomCBS, which is a huge media company that's home to all kinds of content. That includes Paramount, and that means the larger Star Trek universe. It's also home to other exclusives like The Good Fight , the Jordan Peele reboot of The Twilight Zone, as well as a number of other new Star Trek original series, including Star Trek: Picard , Star Trek: Lower Decks and Star Trek: Prodigy .

Paramount Plus has multiple plans for subscribers but, don't worry, you can watch Star Trek: Discovery on both of them. The first is an ad-supported plan (standard price $4.99 per month) and the other is ad-free ($9.99 per month).  There are often offers on subscriptions so check our guide to find the best streaming deals around.

How to watch 'Star Trek: Discovery' in the UK and more

In the UK, Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Star Trek: Discovery is launching on Pluto TV — Viacom's free ad-supported streaming service. Previous seasons had been aired on Netflix but Viacom was going to hold Star Trek: Discovery season 4 until the launch of Paramount Plus across Europe, in 2022.

A fan outcry put a halt to those plans and it's now free to stream live, on Pluto TV's Sci-Fi channel on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at 9 pm, local time. Getting set up on Pluto TV is super easy. The service is free, you don't even need to sign up to use it and it's available on a wide range of devices.

Pluto TV has more than 100 live channels to choose from with shows ranging from Duck Dynasty, to Baywatch, Most Haunted to BET's Tyler Perry shows. Plenty to binge-watch, when you're not engrossed in Star Trek .

How to watch 'Star Trek: Discovery' everywhere else

Outside the US and Europe, Star Trek: Discovery is available on Netflix in 188 countries. In Canada, it's available on Bell Media's CTV Sci-Fi Channel, and the streaming service Crave.

Paramount Plus is planning to expand into more international regions in 2022, so it may wind up where you are at some point soon, just FYI.

There is a handy way to watch your favourite TV shows wherever you are in the world — it is called a VPN. This lets you get around the usual digital barriers by changing your IP address, meaning you can watch your favourite TV shows even if you're away from home.

If you're travelling and away from home but still want to watch Star Trek: Discovery on Pluto TV, you might find that the content is geo-blocked. However, choose a VPN server based in the UK and stream content just like you would back home.

Our favourite is ExpressVPN , which lets you change your IP address on whichever device you want to watch your favorite TV show on. ExpressVPN is one of the best out there. Not only because it is straightforward and easy to use, but it also has great security and, best of all, it comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee.

This is the number one rated VPN in the world right now and as well as trying it out for free for a month, you can sign up for an annual plan and get 3 months absolutely free.

And it's a great way to watch Star Trek: Discovery from anywhere in the world.

Star Trek: Discovery: the cast, the premise and why it's a big deal

Let's just cut to the chase. This is a good show. Yes, you'll probably want to have at least a minimum context of the Trek universe, but it's not absolutely necessary. Discovery has a few characters you'll know from the other series, but it's mostly about new ones.

Unlike virtually every other Trek series, Discovery doesn't focus on the commanding officer. That gives a new perspective from which to tell the story. And that's not to say that the captain isn't very much involved or that the stories told are ancillary and not as exciting. Quite the opposite, in fact. It's just a great, intriguing new way to tell the tale.

Discovery takes place a decade or so before The Original Series , with Captain Kirk and the gang.

We're following Commander Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green, who you may remember as Sasha from The Walking Dead ). She's obviously not Vulcan but was raised as one by Sarek (James Frain) — yes, Spock's father — and his wife (and Spock's mom) Amanda Grayson (Mia Kirshner). So already you know this is going to be complicated — a human raised as a Vulcan, and foster sister to a half-human/half-Vulcan Spock. Intriguing.

There's also Capt. Philippa Georgiou (Michelle Yeoh), an interesting name for a very Chinese captain on board the USS Shenzou. Her first officer is Saru (Doug Jones, who you'll know as the amphibian man in The Shape of Water ), a Kelpian and the only one of his kind in Starfleet.

The cast expands a good bit from there, but we'll break that down just a tad more in the Season 1 and 2 sections.

The basic premise laid out is this: the USS Shenzou, with Burnham, Georgiou and Saru on board, stumbles across an anomaly that turns out to be an ancient Klingon ship that's doing its best to hide, but also has become a beacon meant to unite the Klingon houses. Burnham kills someone and accidentally starts a war. A lot of people die and she ends up committing an act of mutiny on the Shenzou before ending up on Discovery.

If there's one major criticism of Discovery as a series, it's this: There is a LOT going on. A lot of characters, a lot of species, and a lot of moving parts. These parts are going to come and go. They're going to twist and turn on on top of each other

That's the end of the non-spoiler parts. We'll dive in a little deeper from here — and ruin things along the way. So if you're not up for that, just go ahead and get your CBS All Access subscription now and get to watching. If you want more in written form, however, read on.

Star Trek: Discovery Season 1 — War to end all wars

That little act of mutiny Burnham committed on board the Shenzou? It might well have saved the ship and prevented all-out war — and saved the life of Captain Georgiou. Instead, it made Burnham the most hated person in all of Starfleet

Which is why it's interesting that as she's in the middle of a not-so-routine prison transfer (mutiny is still bad, of course), she ends up on board the USS Discovery, thanks to Captain Gabriel Lorca (Jason Isaacs, with an awful accent). He's a brilliant tactician and leader, but butts heads with the scientific staff on board his ship. He wants to win the war, and the scientists want to science the shit out of whatever secretive thing it is they're doing. They need Burnham's help, though they won't tell her (at first) what they're up to.

It turns out that the big secret is a new kind of propulsion system that doesn't so much make a ship go faster as it does make it instantaneously appear somewhere. That is, so long as it doesn't accidentally turn everyone's bodies inside out first. It happens. How does this "Spore Drive" work? With mushrooms. Yes, really. The ability to leap across a galaxy is a convenient plot point, and also a great way to win a war

Meanwhile, the sort-of united Klingons are kicking Starfleet's ass thanks to its cloaking devices. The leader, Voq (Kenneth Mitchell) will do anything to win this war and reunite the Houses in the old ways. It turns out he'll do everything, in fact — including taking over the body of Starfleet officer Ash Tyler (Shazad Latif), who had been held on a Klingon prison ship with scoundrel Harry Judd (Rainn Wilson).

Wait — it's not even complicated yet.

Discovery ends up accidentally jumping (via its Spore Drive) into an alternate universe — one in which Starfleet isn't good, Georgiou isn't dead — and in which Captain Lorca's evil twin originated before ending up on Discovery. Turns out this whole thing was a ruse to get him home.

Meanwhile, Ash Tyler (who has one of those names that has to be said in its entirety) realizes he's actually a weird sort of Klingon agent — which puts a damper on his burgeoning romance with Burnham. There's a new plan to blow up the Klingon home world, and Burnham hands the trigger to ... the female Klingon strategist who was in love with Voq, and turned him into Ash Tyler. (Or Ash Tyler into Voq.)

Plus, bad Georgiou from the alternative is now mostly good Georgiou.

See? It's complicated. It's also very, very good.

Star Trek: Discovery Season 2 — The Red Angel

The war with the Klingons is over, but now there are some mysterious signals coming from across the galaxy. Discovery — with Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) in the chair while the USS Enterprise undergoes some conveniently weird maintenance — heads off to investigate one of them, where Burnham and Pike discover ... comedian-turned-Starfleet engineer Tig Nortaro (Jett Reno, in the series).

Burnham almost dies during the rescue of Reno — until a mysterious Red Angel-looking figure shows up just in the nick of time and saves her. Where there's a signal, there's a Red Angel, apparently.

Meanwhile, Spock took leave from the Enterprise but also apparently went quite mad and might have killed a couple people. So Burnham wants to to find her foster brother. Also hot on his trail is Section 31, which is a shadowy Starfleet-sanctioned group that does what needs to be done, even if it plays in the gray areas more than you're used to in a Star Trek series.

There's a lot of intra-Starfleet politics going on in this one. Georgiou and Ash Tyler have ended up with Section 31. And both probably can be trusted to do what's right even if it means doing what's wrong. Probably.

Eventually everyone figures out that where there's a signal, there's the Red Angel. So they devise a plan to capture the Red Angel to figure out what the hell is going on, why Burnham and Spock and others have had visions of the Red Angel — and, oh, why the fate of all sentient life in the universe is at stake.

It turns out the Red Angel is ... [Sure you want this spoiler? OK.]

It turns out the Red Angel is Burnham's mother, Gabrielle (Sonja Sohn) believed to have been killed in a Klingon attack when Burnham some 20 years earlier. (This added another layer in Season 1.) It turns out she's been trapped in time 950 years into the future and has been coming back to present day to do ... Something.

And it turns out that that something is to stop Section 31's artificial intelligence called Control from getting some AI data from a 200-thousand-year-old sphere and deciding that every living thing must die. Now it's Control and Section 31 and their superior tech against Discovery, the Kelpians, the Klingons and anyone else they could scrounge up, trying to help Burnham lead Discovery 950 years into the future, where Control won't be able to get to the AI data.

It's one hell of a battle.

For quite a long time, Star Trek fans were left in the dark, drifting through the cold vacuum of television with not a single new Star Trek show in sight. After three fantastic movies, Trek finally returned to the small screen in 2017 with Star Trek: Discovery .

Well, sort of. Star Trek: Discovery hit the CBS streaming service, so only serious Trekkies got to delight to the adventures of Michael Burnam and Captain Lorca on the Federation starship Discovery. Set a decade before the start of the original series, Discovery reminds sci-fi fans of the potential of the genre. And the show will finally be available on CBS starting in late September.

Here’s everything you need to know to stream Star Trek: Discovery.

Star Trek: Discovery Reviews

  • Rotten Tomatoes score : 81%
  • Metacritic score : 72

What the critics are saying:

  • “It’s even more beautiful watching two women of color, black and Asian, navigate a realm that traditionally hasn’t included them. It honors sci-fi’s history while giving it a bold new future to stake claim in, making Star Trek essential television for the first time in decades.” – Ira Madison III, Daily Beast
  • “You respect the ambition of unspooling this story gradually, but the third episode also retroactively makes the two-part prologue feel even more overextended. This feels like a show struggling to find its heart. But at least Martin-Green gives it a pulse.” – Darren Franich, Entertainment Weekly

How to stream Star Trek: Discovery

CBS is available on a few of the major live TV streaming services. When trying to decide which one is best for you, you’ll want to weigh the cost, the other channels you’ll receive, and the compatible devices for streaming. At the moment, only season one will be available on CBS. New seasons are still exclusive to CBS All Access.

Star Trek: Discovery on Hulu with Live TV

Hulu Live TV is a great way to stream live TV, as it comes with access to Hulu ’s massive library of on-demand content. You’ll be able to choose from movies , shows , and Hulu’s original programming , and keep up with what’s new each month. Hulu plans even include a bundle option where you can access Disney+ and ESPN+ along with Hulu.

Hulu Live TV sets you up with local channels and has a broad spectrum of entertainment and sports channels to review, including the full suite of ESPN channels, Cartoon Network , FX , HGTV, and even deep cuts like National Geographic and Syfy , and of course, CBS, where you can stream Star Trek: Discovery.

Hulu Live TV Logo

Star Trek: Discovery on FuboTV

FuboTV started as a streaming service geared toward sports fans, but it’s evolved into a broadly-appealing option with entertainment and news options alongside its robust sports choices. Depending on the package, you can access as many as 180+ FuboTV channels . If you’re looking to be entertained, Bravo , IFC , MTV , and VH1 are options even at Fubo’s most basic tier . The Fubo channel list still includes plenty of sports, including the Fubo Sports Network, which has original programming mixing sports and humor. The FuboTV cost starts at $54.99 a month, and with Disney Media favorites like ABC , ESPN , and the Disney Channel now on board, some who were on the fence about Fubo are giving it another look.

To watch Star Trek: Discovery , you’ll want to dock in at the FuboTV Standard level.

Star Trek: Discovery on Sling TV

For a more à la carte service, look to Sling TV. It offers two cable packages, Sling Orange and Sling Blue , both of which cost $30 per month. If you grab them both ( Sling Orange + Blue ) you can save $10 per month. Sling Blue offers more bang for your buck with over 40 channels, including sports necessities like FS1 , NBCSN , and NFL Network . You’ll also gain access to the usual cable mainstays like Food Network , Discovery , Cartoon Network , SYFY , and FXX . Here’s the complete guide to Sling TV channels .

Sling TV

How to use AirTV with Sling

CBS is not available on any Sling TV package. However, there is an easy workaround. By purchasing a basic AirTV for $79.99 or the AirTV Player for $119.99, you can gain access to local channels in your Sling TV package. As the Daily Dot wrote in its AirTV review , “It’s practically magic.”

The basic AirTV is a dual-tuner streaming device, while the AirTV Player is basically an upgraded Chromecast that has Netflix preinstalled. You’ll still need to own an HD antenna because even though AirTV gets you access to your local channels, it doesn’t actually physically show them to you.

But AirTV—which has no monthly fee—serves to strengthen one of Sling’s biggest weaknesses compared to other live streaming services. It’s the only way to watch Star Trek: Discovery using Sling TV.

Star Trek: Discovery on AT&T TV Now

If you’re already looking to AT&T for your wireless needs, you might consider AT&T TV Now to cover streaming for you. AT&T TV Now channels start with Plus and Max, which even include HBO. Then, AT&T plans expand from there, approaching cable selection and pricing with AT&T TV Now’s biggest packages. AT&T streaming also comes with Cloud DVR , letting you record up to 20 hours of TV per month. If you’re looking for CBS , get in at the AT&T TV Now Plus tier to stream it.

Star Trek: Discovery on Paramount+

New episodes of Star Trek: Discovery are only available on Paramount Plus. Season 3 premiers Thursday, October 15, at 9pm and will be available exclusively on the CBS streaming platform.

Star Trek: Discovery's Five-Season Mission

In the lead up to Discovery's final adventure, the cast and creatives behind the hit series reflects on their journey so far.

Graphic illustration featuring an episodic still from the Discovery crew celebrating in 'Coming Home'

StarTrek.com

We're mere days away from Star Trek: Discovery launching its final adventure with the premiere of its fifth season on April 4.

In need of a catch up of where we last left off with each character? We've got a guide for that . Want a spoiler-free tease of what's to come for the crew of the U.S.S. Discovery ? We've got you covered there as well .

Ahead of their last mission, the cast and creatives behind the hit series that relaunched the Star Trek universe seven years ago has been reflecting on their experiences on- and off-screen during their latest stints on Star Trek: The Cruise VII, SXSW, WonderCon, World Premiere junket, and more. Here are the biggest takeaways from their promotional tour!

'Under the Twin Moons'

"Under the Twin Moons"

Following the finale of Star Trek: Enterprise in 2005, it would take the franchise 12 years to return to television screens with the premiere of Star Trek: Discovery in 2017.

Speaking directly to StarTrek.com during the press junket at SXSW, executive producer and showrunner Alex Kurtzman detailed how they selected Sonequa Martin-Green to usher in the modern era of Star Trek . "Sonequa's amazingness just radiated off the screen, and that was just from an audition," shared Kurtzman. "We actually didn't meet her in person; she was in New York at the time. It's that beautiful thing. We had been looking for so long for the right Michael Burnham. And it's that miracle moment that you always wait for when you're in a casting process where just the right person shows up and starts saying the lines, and you go, 'That's my Michael Burnham.' That's what we got with her just out of the gate."

"On top of being a brilliant Michael Burnham, she's also just the most amazing Number One ever," continued Kurtzman. "She's such a beautiful human being, such a wonderful leader. She created a space on set for everybody to be joyful and to do their best work. I honestly don't think we can say enough about how amazing she is."

This sentiment was echoed amongst all the cast members, including the newest addition to the series, Eve Harlow , who praised Martin-Green during an exclusive conversation with StarTrek.com during Star Trek: The Cruise VII, "She is that captain, and she treats everyone like an equal. I've just never been on a set where everyone, the crew is so appreciated. She knows everybody's names. She knows what they do. She knows their family life, what's going on with them. She genuinely cares, and being around that, that spirit is infectious."

Michael Burnham takes the helm as the captain of the U.S.S. Discovery in 'The Hope That Is You, Part 2'

"The Hope That Is You, Part 2"

Sitting in the SXSW Studio , Sonequa Martin-Green reflected on being the first Black woman to helm a Star Trek series. "This is one of the things that I'm most proud of," exclaimed Martin-Green. "There's no way that i could not be. We made television history twice. First, it was the first Black female lead, and then it was the first Black female lead and captain. Those moments mean so much to me even being able to just sit in the chair. I could distill it to that moment of being able to sit in the chair. I was carrying my daughter at the same time. So being able to share that with her, and then being able to become a producer and then an executive producer behind-the-scenes."

During the Discovery panel at WonderCon, executive producer and director Olatunde Osunsanmi reflected on Michael Burnham's journey throughout Star Trek: Discovery. " [Sonequa] is an incredible human being, and she's an incredible actor. Here she was playing these multiple roles, lieutenant to prisoner at one point. It takes an actor of incredible range and incredible capability to be able to pull that off. To be believable in each of the different roles of each of the different phases of her life. It was really fantastic to be able to see and have a front row seat to that. It's one of those things I'll cherish for the rest of my life."

During the WonderCon panel, executive producer and showrunner Michelle Paradise added, "She surprises me every episode. She just really incredible. I remember when I first started on the show, one of the first things Alex said to me is that there's nothing Sonequa can't do, and he's absolutely right. I saw that very early on. And as a writer, that is just a gift because you can take the character anywhere. She's a formidable presence and performer, and just so emotional, and the tiniest moments, she just brings them to life. It's a real treat honestly to get to work with her."

Captain Michael Burnham and the crew of the U.S.S. Discovery arrive on the planet's surface to appeal to the Species 10-C in 'Coming Home'

"Coming Home"

In the SXSW Studio, Doug Jones shared how Saru helped fans as well as himself. "Science fiction does parallel real life a lot," noted Jones. "That's why i think the fandom for this genre is so strong because people do see that they can watch something fictional and then go into their real life and go, 'I've got the power to face my demons or whatever is coming in my way that day.'"

"With my character on this [series], I found that the fans seem to be responding to Saru's imposter syndrome, his fears, his anxieties that he starts with in this series," explained Jones. "Watching him work through it, watching him evolve past it, watching him find confidence and courage in himself. That's a theme that so many people have related to and told me, 'Oh my gosh, watching Saru has helped me through this, this, that.' And me too. Me watching Saru go through this has been 'Oh gosh, i don't have to have imposter syndrome anymore. I actually do belong here dagnabbit."

Blu del Barrio also reflected on how their character Adira and Ian Alexander's character Gray has resonated with fans as well as themselves. "It was really perfect timing because the way that Ian and I were introduced," stated del Barrio. "Right after this massive time jump was really perfect, and the way that we were introduced was very nonchalantly, which I think was the right way to do it. There's very rarely a trans character on a TV show. There's never two, and they're never in a relationship. So the fact that I got to do that with Ian is definitely what I'm most proud of in all of the way that I've done here. I feel immensely grateful to have been allowed to. [To Alex Kurtzman and Michelle Paradise,] you guys gave us this platform."

"I didn't realize the effect that it would have, and I'm hugely grateful for it every single day" added del Barrio. "I love the way that we were portrayed. I love the way that I got to bring a lot of my own life and transition into Adira, and that I got to do that on-screen. Although it was very scary, I'm grateful for it. I'm glad that I could do it, and I'm glad that it was not the most interesting thing about either myself or Ian's character. In fact, we literally never talk about it which is perfect. I love that."

Wilson Cruz echoed the same sentiment earlier in the conversation, "I'm feeling grateful for the experience, for people to have been introduced to all of these people who have become a part of my life. I'm grateful for being able to tell this story with this incredibly diverse cast, and finally give voice and face to communities that had been longing to see themselves in this franchise for so many years."
