Skegss share breezy new singles ‘Stranger Days’ and ‘December’
The new songs come in the midst of Skegss' current national tour
Skegss have returned with their first two songs of 2022: an uplifting indie-rock tune titled ‘Stranger Days’ and a summery, psych-tinged number called ‘December’.
- READ MORE: Skegss: “We’re stoked we live in Australia – we’re keen to grab the bull by the horns”
The former track leads the pack, arriving alongside a video helmed by director Jamieson Kerr, who has worked with the band on several clips including last year’s ‘Bush TV’ and ‘Wake Up’ . It follows drummer Jonny Lani on his endeavour to train for a marathon, taking him through suburban streets, riverside fields and a pub while bandmates Ben Reed and Toby Cregan cheer him on.
The song itself builds on the musical breadth that Skegss explored on last year’s ‘Rehearsal’ album, shining with lively, serpentine vocal melodies, a cantering drum beat and colourful, yet not overpowering guitars.
In a press release, Reed said he wrote the song during a period of time where he felt as though it was “epic to try and ride out your ambitions and try [to] always look back when you kook it at life, and say, ‘I will try to be better, be a better friend, better partner, [and] get better at getting better.'”
“Life is a changing, strange constant,” he said. “The more the days go on, you get over things, so [the song is] about riding those feelings out when you get weirded out by the world.”
Take a look at the video for ‘Stranger Days’ below:

‘December’, meanwhile, is a sepia-toned pseudo-ballad about the power of nostalgia, described as “a heartfelt love letter to Christmas and the Australian summer”, and “an ode to being in one’s hometown for the holidays, and the nostalgia that comes with it”. With dusty strums and bright, warbly chords that wouldn’t feel out of place from King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard , it too exemplifies Skegss’ recent sonic evolution.
According to Reed, the song’s thematic concept “just happened naturally”, as he found that “the chord progression just rang a bit in the theme of Christmas”.
“I must have been thinking about just how much fun it is over summer in my hometown,” he continued. “Having beers down at the local pub on Chrissy Eve and just seeing the crew you grew up with. It’s epic the years when everyone is in town for it, it’s not even Christmas Day, it’s just the whole summer period.
“I reckon so many times my New Year’s resolution is to get healthy and probably give the booze a spell, but I go one day, it gets hell hot and I end up with a beer in my hand before I know it. So yeah, all talk every time. Almost part of the tradition.”
Listen to ‘December’ below:
The new songs come in the midst of Skegss’ current national tour, with the group having recently played sold-out shows in Sydney, Melbourne and Hobart. They have two dates left on the itinerary, playing Perth’s Astor Theatre next Friday (February 11), and Brisbane’s Fortitude Music Hall the following evening.
After wrapping up the tour, they’ll play at Narrabeen RSL on Sunday March 20 as a part of the 2022 Great Southern Nights concert series. They’ll also appear at this year’s Play On The Plains festival in Deniliquin, sharing the stage with the likes of Amy Shark , Spacey Jane and Northeast Party House . In April, the band will tour North America before performing at this year’s Coachella .
Skegss released their second full-length effort, ‘Rehearsal’, last March via Loma Vista. Supported by singles like ‘Under The Thunder’ , ‘Fantasising’ and ‘ ‘Valhalla’ , it scored the band their first Number One album on the ARIA Charts . ‘Under the Thunder’ and ‘Fantasising’ both featured in triple j’s Hottest 100 for 2020, while ‘Valhalla’ recently came in at #55 in the Hottest 100 of 2021 .
They followed the album up last November with ‘Bunny Man’ . The track was dedicated to their tour manager, guitar tech, photographer, driver and friend David Herington – aka Bunny Man – and everyone else who works in their touring crew.

Cheapest destinations to see Taylor Swift concerts from 'Eras Tour' abroad
Are you a Florida Swiftie with “Eras Tour” FOMO?
It’s definitely too late to find a ticket to Taylor Swift’s October concerts in Miami for less than $2,000.
But you can see an “Eras Tour” show in Warsaw, Poland, on Aug. 1, 2024, for about $500 cheaper than the cheapest concert ticket for a Miami show in October (including a roundtrip plane ticket to Poland, from Miami ).
Travel website Islands.com just released a study on the cheapest overseas destinations for seeing Miss Americana on the European leg of her tour.
To calculate the cheapest overseas shows on Taylor Swift’s “Eras Tour” this summer, Islands.com aggregated data on each city to find the average most affordable concert tickets, the average cost for two days of spending on hotel rooms, meals, drinks and transportation in each city and each city's safety score.
Here’s the Islands.com list of the cheapest shows on the next leg of Taylor Swift’s tour and how much the cheapest plane tickets from Florida to the cheapest European concert are.
Does “The Eras Tour” come to Europe?
Yes! After a wildly successful first run of “The Eras Tour” in the U.S. in 2023, Taylor Swift extended her tour to an international one and will start performing in Europe this summer before returning for more U.S. shows in the fall.
Here’s Islands.com’s list of the Top 10 cheapest places to see Taylor Swift in Europe this summer, including two days’ worth of hotel, food, drink and transportation costs for each city:
- Warsaw, Poland: $443 cheapest concert ticket price, $712 total lowest average cost
- Gelsenkirchen, Germany: $387 cheapest concert ticket price, $749 total lowest average cost
- Hamburg, Germany: $411 cheapest concert ticket price, $903 total lowest average cost
- Stockholm, Sweden: $406 cheapest concert ticket price, $935 total lowest average cost
- Paris, France: $313 cheapest concert ticket price, $971 total lowest average cost
- Munich, Germany: $472 cheapest concert ticket price, $1,000 total lowest average cost
- Lisbon, Portugal: $507 cheapest concert ticket price, $1,028 total lowest average cost
- Lyon, France: $582 cheapest concert ticket price, $1,047 total lowest average cost
- Cardiff, UK: $679 cheapest concert ticket price, $1,061 total lowest average cost
- Vienna , Austria: $496 cheapest concert ticket price, $1,089 total lowest average cost
Does Taylor Swift perform in Poland?
Yes! Taylor Swift will be performing for three nights in Warsaw, from Thursday, Aug. 1, through Saturday, Aug. 3.
The cheapest ticket to see Taylor Swift perform in Warsaw, Poland in August is about $1,500 cheaper than the cheapest ticket to catch one of her Miami shows in October.
As of April, via Google Flights, you can buy a roundtrip plane ticket from Miami to Warsaw (with two layovers) for around $800 .
Add that $800 plane ticket to the around $500 it will cost for a concert ticket and the extra $200 to $300 you’ll spend in two days of visiting Warsaw, and the grand total comes out to a maximum of around $1,600, which is still $400 cheaper than the cheapest ticket to a Miami show.
Russia arrests another suspect in the concert hall attack that killed 144

A Moscow court has detained another suspect as an accomplice in the attack by gunmen on a suburban Moscow concert hall that killed 144 people in March, the Moscow City Courts Telegram channel said Saturday.
Dzhumokhon Kurbonov, a citizen of Tajikistan, is accused of providing the attackers with means of communication and financing. The judge at Moscow’s Basmanny District Court ruled that Kurbonov would be kept in custody until May 22 pending investigation and trial.
Russian state news agency RIA Novosti said Kurbonov was reportedly detained on April 11 for 15 days on the administrative charge of petty hooliganism. Independent Russian media outlet Mediazona noted that this is a common practice used by Russian security forces to hold a person in custody while a criminal case is prepared against them.
Twelve defendants have been arrested in the case, including four who allegedly carried out the attack at the Crocus City Hall concert venue, according to RIA Novosti.
Those four appeared in the same Moscow court at the end of March on terrorism charges and showed signs of severe beatings. One appeared to be barely conscious during the hearing. The court ordered that the men, all of whom were identified in the media as citizens of Tajikistan, also be held in custody until May 22.
A faction of the Islamic State group has claimed responsibility for the massacre in which gunmen shot people who were waiting for a show by a popular rock band and then set the building on fire. But Russian officials including President Vladimir Putin have persistently claimed, without presenting evidence, that Ukraine and the West had a role in the attack.
Ukraine denies involvement and its officials claim that Moscow is pushing the allegation as a pretext to intensify its fighting in Ukraine .

Billie Eilish has announced a new tour and will be coming to the UK next summer.
The 22-year year old 's show is named after her latest album - Hit Me Hard And Soft - and will kick off in North America in September.
It will then head to Australia in February 2025, before travelling across Europe and arriving in the UK on 7 July when she will perform for two nights in Glasgow, at OVO Hydro.
Eilish will then play six nights at the O2 in London, and four nights at the new Co-Op Live arena in Manchester - a venue that has been beset with problems as it prepares to open to the public.
The singer will then play two gigs in Dublin, Ireland, at the 3Arena.
A vocal environmentalist, fans are being encouraged to take "sustainable transport" during the tour, which will also feature "eco-villages" and encourage plant-based food options.
The tour will partner with the plant-based food organisation Support + Feed - an initiative founded by Eilish's mother Maggie Baird - and environmental non-profit organisation REVERB.

Eilish's third studio album comes out on 17 May, a month after Taylor Swift 's much lauded album The Tortured Poets Department .
Like Swift, Eilish is encouraging fans to listen to the collection as a whole, saying on her website that the new body of work should be listened to chronologically as it "hits you hard and soft both lyrically and sonically, while bending genres and defying trends along the way".
She's not released any singles in advance, encouraging fans to listen "in one go".
The album cover features Eilish on her back under dark water with a white door open above her.
Eilish's last album was 2021's Happier Than Ever, and her debut record When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? was released in 2019.
The youngest person ever to have won two Oscars, she took home the award for best original song Oscar gong for Barbie's What Was I Made For? in March, and won the same prize for James Bond's No Time To Die in 2022.
Tickets for Hit Me Hard And Soft go on general sale on Friday.
