If you want to enjoy an unforgettable customized tour of Cozumel aboard a Jeep Wrangler – then THIS is for YOU, because - as our delighted client, Kyle, says…

This is much more than just a Jeep Tour around the island

jeep tour of cozumel

Imagine being in full control of your very own Jeep & Beach Adventure in Cozumel

But, no need to just imagine, because YOU will be in the driving seat – literally.

Alan, Martha, and Wanda riding a Jeep while seeing the Caribbean wonders.

Because you can choose to either have the time of your life driving one of our almost-new Jeep Wranglers yourself (off road, too!), aided by your very knowledgeable native guide as navigator and co-pilot.

You can choose to relax and admire the stunning sights of our beautiful Cozumel island home while your highly skilled and experienced driver and guide follow the route and itinerary you personally chose before setting off on your memorable day of adventure.

And – if you do choose to drive – it will be a sheer joy, because our Jeeps are all fully automatic, with Auto Stick.

And that’s just one of the many reasons our Excursion is so popular among Cruisers visiting Cozumel…

What makes our Cozumel Jeep & Snorkeling Tour so unique?

YOU... Because we put YOU – our VIP guests - front and center

  • So that’s why we invested in more expensive automatic transmission Jeeps to make it easy for you – in contrast to most of the other Jeep tours on the island, who offer only manual gear shift.
  • And it’s why – despite our vehicles being able to carry up to five passengers - we insist on making your Jeep Tour TOTALLY PRIVATE and NEVER put you in the same vehicle with strangers – even if you are on your own.
  • By contrast, some other Cozumel Jeep tours pack every seat, combining two or more parties in the same vehicle.
  • Which means you being in the same vehicle with strangers and so with very little chance of your voice being heard, other than in a minor way, when it comes to deciding the details of your day, including your start time, where you go and how long you stay at the various different locations.

Alan, Martha, and Wanda riding a Jeep in the island of Cozumel.

On your TOTALLY PRIVATE Jeep & Snorkeling Excursion, the day is yours to command...

Jeep excursions in Cozumel.

So you can choose to be taken to wherever YOU decide , whether it is watching crocodiles, viewing our lighthouse and its fascinating nautical museum, snorkeling on the warm, crystal-clear water of the protected Cozumel Marine Park and marveling at the sheer beauty of the coral reefs and colorful fish that swim by.

Exploring a tropical jungle, visiting the amazing Mayan ruins or making your taste-buds somersault with glee at the mouth watering guacamole or seafood with plenty of ice-cold beers – and even seeing how tequila is made from the unpromising blue agave plant - and enjoy a taster or two of the finished result.

And, if you get stuck for ideas, our knowledgeable, Cozumel-born, guide will have plenty of suggestions that you’ll love.

And all this will only begin at the time you choose , which can be anything from 8.00 am to 1.00 pm any day of the week – including Sundays.

And the tour will run at the pace YOU decide , because this is a totally private tour, designed JUST for you and your party.

It was MORE than just a Jeep Tour around the island!"

Our Family of six enjoys having our own personal tour guide so we can explore what we want to see! Alberto was very pleasant and knowledgeable of the island.

After a few minutes of talking in the morning, he quickly realized what we were interested in seeing and doing on the island and made for a very enjoyable and exciting day for us in Cozumel!

Alberto was a wonderful tour guide!! We enjoyed our Jeep drive from the port to the Punta Sur Park. The drive though the park was beautiful! The facilities are pristine.

The snorkeling was fantastic.

Our excursion group was small (only six people) and we had the whole beach to ourselves.

The lunch was authentic and delicious. I could have stayed with hammocks and swings at the lighthouse all day because the view was magnificent. This is a must when in Cozumel.

If you're looking to learn about the island and see all of its hidden jewels, I highly recommend this tour!

It was much more than just a tour around the island!

You'll be escorted by fully Licensed & English Speaking Guides...

Hola … my name is Alberto Novelo and – along with my brother, Jorge, and my cousin, Sandy and the rest of my family – I have great pleasure in welcoming you to my beautiful island of Cozumel where we have famously been providing the oldest & very best Jeep Private Tour services in Cozumel since 1998 (21 years), having a combined driving experience between us well in excess of 50 years.

What’s more, we are unique among all the Jeep drivers in Cozumel , being the ONLY Jeep hire business on the whole island possessing the highly sought after Federal Tour Guide License awarded by the Mexican Tourism Board.

This involves a highly challenging year-long process of certification. But it is your guarantee we possess the in-depth understanding of Mexican and Mayan culture , as well as having detailed knowledge of both our local museums and the archeological sites.

Jeep tours Punta Sur Cozumel.

You’ll also be pleased to know your wonderful tour won’t be marred by a driver and escort who can only communicate in broken English. That’s because we all speak fluent English and hold an American English certificate ‘Test of English as a Foreign Language’ – unlike many other drivers in Cozumel.

I was very surprised that our guide was this FRIENDLY Mexican from Cozumel and spoke PERFECT ENGLISH"

I was hesitant at first to book outside of Carnival, but had a good feeling about this company after I asked some questions via the Live Chat option.

All transactions were very smooth, easy to book online, paid via Paypal, and got my confirmation email immediately.

When we arrived in Cozumel, I was very surprised that our guide was this friendly Mexican originally from Cozumel and spoke plain English just like us. This guy was great!

We had a fun-filled day that included Snorkeling, tour and shopping at a Mayan village, Chips & Salsa and Drinks by the beach, Relaxing by the beach, lunch at an excellent authentic Mexican restaurant, and several other sightseeing stops along the way.

All this in the comfort of like-new Jeep Wranglers and breathtaking views driving along the island shores. There were six in our party (four adults and two children under ten).

The guide let us decide when we were ready to move on to the next stop.

This excursion and booking company highly exceeded our expectations!

Plus we saved over $150 by booking outside of Carnival!

‘Cozumel Off Road’ is a family-owned business...

So you’ll be escorted and driven by one of members of the family - not merely a disinterested employee, which is why we all strive to go the extra mile so you enjoy a superb day out.

And, unlike some private tour drivers, who hire vehicles on a daily basis, we own our vehicles, which are carefully maintained and valeted to the highest standards of reliability, safety and comfort.

And –as our delighted client, Jennifer Bauer from Pullman, Washington, remarked - “This was our favorite excursion”.

Forget cruise organized port excrusions"

We booked the Private Jeep Tour directly through their website, and we saved almost $200 compared to booking thru the Cruise.

We visited Cozumel as one of our ports on a Royal Caribbean cruise. We had 2 families of 4 adults and 5 children, ages 6-12.

This was our favorite excursion!

Alberto, our guide was excellent and gave us a wonderful tour of the island and a great restaurant on the east side of the island for authentic mexican food. I was particularly impressed with his command of English since he was born and raised in Cozumel. A true local.

We drove out to Punta Sur, which was gorgeous. We snorkeled at a great place and the snorkeling guide did a great job. Kept the group together. Started with a safety and instruction overview. Properly fitted for vests, masks and fins.

We got to see the largest star fish we've ever seen - 2 feet across. There was a great lunch served (choice of chicken, beef or fish fajitas) and lounge chairs to enjoy the beach at Punta Morena.

We only wished for more time.

There was a tequila tasting stop on the way back to the port, which we could have passed on it. However, even then, the kids loved the little petting zoo set up that was in the middle of this place.

I will book directly with these guys every time I visit Cozumel. If you are looking for a professional company to take you on a Private Jeep Tour, book with Cozumel Off Road, you won't regret it!

What sets us apart from other Jeep adventure tours in Cozumel?

Five very important aspects …

Benjamin with his family about to have a wonderful Jeep excursion.

  • We are a family owned business and all of our drivers are family members. This means we are far more motivated to make your day wonderful in a way no employee could ever be.
  • We are unique among all the other Cozumel Jeep tour companies being the ONLY private hire drivers on the island possessing the coveted Federal Tour Guide License from the Mexican Tourism Board. This means you can be confident we have an unmatched range of knowledge about Mexican culture and the local archeological sites and museums.
  • All drivers speak fluent English and we hold an American English certificate ‘Test of English as a Foreign Language’.

Awesome way to see the island - Especially for first time snorkelers"

We came to Cozumel off Independence of the Seas for the day. We found our assembly point without any problems.

We began with snorkeling which no one in our group had ever done. We enjoyed it immensely. Our guide Alberto provided clear instructions and was very supportive during our time in the water. It was great fun.

I saw a lot of colorful fish when we were snorkeling. Punta Sur Eco Park has most amazing scenic views from atop the Celarain lighthouse.

Our visit to the eco park and then the tequila tour were informative and fun. Great opportunities for photos at the lighthouse.

We then drove our Jeeps to a beach resort for lunch and then on to a tour of the island. Finally, we were returned to the port with two hours to spare.

With a Family of 8, I like booking tours outside the cruise lines and research the companies thoroughly before I sign up.

The recommendations given by Cozumel Off Road were spot on and very accurate. Their email communications were easy to follow and very professional.

In summary, you feel comfortable in booking with this company ...you will enjoy your trip!

If you are arriving on a Cruise ship, then allow 30 minutes from docking to cover any delay in embarkation.

If you are coming from Playa del Carmen, the Ferry ride to Cozumel lasts 30 minutes, and costs only $6usd each way. Ferries depart every hour both ways starting at 7am until 11pm.

Make sure to catch a Ferry at least 1 hour before your scheduled depart time.

Your tour lasts approximately 5 ½ hours.

Not interested in the tequila factory or snorkeling so our guide let us pick what we really wanted to do"

We were met right at the Cruise Pier and had a great day. This was our first cruise and visit to Mexico, so we wanted a little bit of everything with culture, history, beach, water and food.

My husband and I aren't big drinkers so we were not interested in the tequila factory, but our guide, Roberto, was great at letting us pick what we wanted to do and giving us choices of activities.

Our guide, Roberto, was extremely attentive and accommodating the whole trip. I even wanted my husband to have some "authentic" huevos rancheros and he called ahead to the restaurant he was taking us to for lunch and had them prepare them special for us as they were not on the menu.

We went to Pueblo del Maiz and the San Gervasio ruins for history and culture, then to beautiful Punta Morena Beach Club and Tortugas for lunch.

Since neither of us really wanted to snorkel, he gave us time and space just to relax and enjoy the food, water and scenery.

Then dropped us back off at the Cruise Ship. It was an altogether great day. Thanks, Roberto with Cozumel Off Road!

You will be spoilt for choice as to where to go, but – fear not – because your driver, with his unmatched knowledge of the area is on hand to help you decide.

All too soon, your wonderful day will be over and you’ll be amazed at how much fun you’ve experienced and astonished by the amazing value you’ve enjoyed.

As a result, you will probably already planning your next trip with us, like so many others before you, who return again and again.

Eric and his family very excited to ride Jeeps in Cozumel.

TOUR PRICING

You get all this – and much more for just...

Fortunately, we are a small, family owned business so, by booking direct with us, you cut out the middleman and instantly save approximately 40% compared with making a booking via your cruise ship.

And we trim the cost further by having all our bookings online, giving you the added benefit of being able to immediately see if your choice of tour date is available.

Adult or Kid

Children from three upwards are allowed to go snorkeling, provided they are closely supervised by a parent at all times.

What’s more - even if you are on your own - you will still enjoy exclusive use of the Jeep, but we will require payment of (2 X $79) = $158, being equivalent of payment for two adults.

Because our goal is your total satisfaction, we ONLY ever take ONE party on each tour – even if you are just one person - you don’t have to risk spoiling your trip of a lifetime by making compromises to accommodate the different choices of another party.

Immediately after your payment is processed you’ll receive a Confirmation Email with full directions to our meeting point , and all your Reservation details.

If you can’t print the Confirmation Email because you don’t have access to a printer, simply make a note of the directions and arrive at our meeting point with your passport or any other photo ID.

BOOK WITH CONFIDENCE

My Refund Policy has you covered:

  • If you are coming to Cozumel via Cruise Ship, and your Cruise gets re-routed off Cozumel for any reason. I will give you a FULL REFUND.
  • No questions asked.

The CLOCK IS TICKING

Although you will be able to enjoy the many advantages of dealing with a local family-owned business, it does have one severe downside.

Because we only have 5 Jeeps in total . 2 Jeeps seating five passengers and 3 Jeeps seating four passengers, making our total passenger capacity at only 22 passengers.

And each Jeep can only undertake one trip a day.

So, with most of our clients coming from the cruise ships , which bring in around 20,000 cruise visitors daily, we get booked up lightening fast seven days a week .

Which means you now have a crystal clear choice

You can either take your time to ‘think about it’ – only to come back later and find your choice of day has now been taken, so you either have to miss out completely or settle for a trip with another Jeep tour company, where you probably won’t enjoy the personal attention of a family member – maybe even have to pay extra for your beers, soft drinks and water – and struggle to understand your driver’s broken English and can’t be certain your snorkel mouthpiece hasn’t been used before!

You can make the smart move and immediately decide about which day you want to take your tour on and instantly check if we are still available.

Then, once you’ve made your booking, you can relax, enjoying the warm feeling of knowing you’ve made a wise choice and start to plan your trip to make it a truly FIVE STAR memory that you’ll always cherish.

Sounds like it an easy choice to make, so I and my family are really looking forward to meeting you and showing you our wonderful island first hand!

Alberto Novelo

Cozumel off road, the excursion summary.

Jeep excursions Punta Sur Cozumel.

Why should the best be reserved for others & not you?

Haven’t you worked hard to afford this trip to Cozumel and so don’t you deserve the best that is on offer?

Because we focus on giving you the highest possible personal experience, seamlessly delivered by our uniquely qualified and highly experienced fluent English speaking speaking drivers, we are strictly limited to only one trip per Jeep per day.

I’d hate for you to be disappointed and miss out on your chosen day, so I urge you to check availability right now, and then go ahead and book your Jeep Tour...

Not only was this cheaper than anything the Cruise Line offered but we had a private tour with our own guide"

We loved this tour and our guide. It was my favorite activity that we did on our cruise. The tour guide was Alberto and he did everything he could to make sure our time was great. He went over the options for the tour and allowed us to choose where we spent more of our time. The beaches he took us to were pristine and very picturesque. He went out of his way to help my wife find a souvenir from the beach.

When we went into Punta Sur he talked to us about the Mayan culture and why they had such little doors. He was also very helpful spotting wildlife we may want to photograph there. The highlight at Punta Sur was seeing two crocodiles with teeth bared and mouth open warning us about what they were capable of.

The view from the top of the lighthouse is spectacular and should not be missed if you are physically able to climb the 100 or so stairs to the top.

After Punta Sur it was about lunch time. We went to a seaside restaurant and had some great tacos.

After lunch was the highlight of our day. Our guide took us into the ocean for snorkeling. We were able to see a puffer fish and stingray in addition to numerous other tropical fish.

The cost of this tour was far cheaper than anything the cruise line was offering through its excursion packages.

Not only was this cheaper but we had a private tour with our own guide. All around this was a great deal. I want to pass on my thanks to everyone that works for this company. Alberto, our tour guide, was a perfect guide. We could not have asked for more out of this experience.

Thanks again and next time we come to Cozumel we are booking this again.

Such a High Quality Experience for such a Reasonable Price"

We do not like taking the excursions offered by our cruises so we look for local and personalized tour companies.

Cozumel Off Road was great in every way.

Their website, their responsiveness, and especially the driver/guide Alberto, who was just outstanding.

We had never done a private tour before and were a little apprehensive, but we had a great time and really enjoyed being able to set our own pace and the flexibility to spend more time with what we were most interested in.

My husband enjoyed the endless Mexican beer Alberto had on hand, and the Jeep allowed for such a great way to see the island.

The snorkeling was better than we could have imagined with so much to see so close to the beach.

We had the most beautiful drive along the ocean and we stopped along the way at breathtaking and interesting places.

I would highly recommend this tour company. Such a high quality experience for such a reasonable price.

So – if you see a slot you want – book it right away. Because – as you can imagine- with 80% of our bookings coming from the 20,000 weekly cruise visitors to the island, our very limited maximum capacity of just 22 seats daily a day tend to be taken up very quickly.

NO. We run private trips only for a very good reason. As a private group, YOU have total control of the day’s program and timings. So just picture how that would change if you had to accommodate another party’s different preferences and timings?

No. Our very reasonable fees cover the day’s hire of the vehicle, driver and all his vast expertise and local knowledge, entry to the Punta Sur Park, hire of the snorkeling equipment and entry to the Cozumel Eco Marine Park plus the lunch.

In that very rare event, we would immediately issue you with a full refund.

No. We have a strict no alcohol policy for ALL our drivers (including my own family). However, we provide cold soft drinks and bottled water, so you won’t go thirsty!

  • Prices & Details

Discover the very best that Cozumel has to offer as you drive round the whole island on this scenic Jeep adventure.

Snorkel a shallow reef, enjoy a beach break and amazing ocean views, see a small Mayan ruin, have an authentic Mexican lunch, look for crocodiles, climb an historic lighthouse and learn about tequila.

After your guide greets and briefs you at your convenient meeting point,  you'll jump aboard your Jeep and head off in a caravan with your fellow adventurers and the guide leading the way.

You'll enjoy a scenic drive along and a stunning coastal road on your way to the first stop at the beautiful Punta Sur Eco Park , an ecological reserve on the island's southernmost tip.

Upon arrival you will visit El Caracol , a small Mayan ruin which in the past, remarkably, was used as a weather warning system.

Afterwards, look for crocodiles from an observation tower and discover the Colombia Lagoon which feeds and provides balance to the coral reef formations.

Next you'll enjoy some off-roading to the beach, but not before visiting the 20th century lighthouse along the way, which you can climb if you wish and enjoy the panoramic views from the top.

When you arrive to Punta Sur's beach club your jaw is sure to drop, as you see the beautiful long curved stretch of pure white sand for the first time. Here you can enjoy the crystal clear waters of the Caribbean for a beginner's snorkel experience, or simply relax at the beach club if you prefer.

NOTE: Very occasionally Marine Park restrictions may mean it is not possible to snorkel at Punta Sur, in which case snorkeling will take place at another excellent location.

Certified guides will provide safety tips and instruction to the snorkelers before leading you out to see the colorful tropical fish and delightful array of sea life Cozumel has to offer.

By this time you'll be getting hungry, so you'll jump back in your Jeeps for a little more off-roading before stopping for lunch at a restaurant with amazing ocean views on Cozumel's east coast, known locally as "The Other Side".

Tuck in to a deliciously tasty authentic Mexican meal of chicken, beef, fish or vegetable fajitas. The food is included and drinks are available to purchase too.

Next you continue your drive along the famous east coast. Take in the breathtaking views as you look out across white sand beaches, rock formations and the wide open Caribbean Sea.

After driving through the downtown area to see how locals live you'll make your last stop at the tequila tasting where you'll learn how Mexicans turn a spiky plant into their national drink and get to try some amazing drinks (for the Jeep drivers they're without alcohol!)

Finally, you'll finish back at your cruise terminal, accommodation or other convenient drop-off point. Tired and happy you'll say goodbye to the new friends you made on the tour and that night you'll be dreaming about coming back and doing it all again!

This tour is also available by Dune Buggy .

🇲🇽 Traveling to Mexico soon?

These are the Mexico travel resources I use and recommend:

🏨 Hotels : I always find the best deals for Mexico hotels and resorts on Expedia or Booking.com . If you prefer a vacation rental, check VRBO as they are often cheaper than AirBnB’s added fees!

✈️ Flights : I recommend using Skyscanner for the best Mexico flight deals. Be sure to sign up for their price alerts for your preferred travel dates.

🚗 Rental Cars : I recommend using Discover Cars because you can compare multiple car rental companies and see detailed ratings for overall value, ease of pick-up, efficiency of agents, car condition, and overall time spent.

🚙 Cancun Airport Transportation : I recommend booking a private transfer with Cancun Airport Transportation for the quickest and most hassle-free option!

🤿 Tours & Activities: I always use Viator or GetYourGuide for booking tours and activities in Mexico. You can cancel up to 24 hours before the tour for a full refund, plus they have excellent customer service if you were to have any issues.

🚨 Travel Insurance: After my Dad broke his hand in a taxi accident in Playa del Carmen, I always recommend buying travel insurance before your trip for added peace of mind! I recommend Travel Insurance Master for short trips or Safety Wing for digital nomads.

☀️ Biodegradable Sunscreen : Don’t forget to add biodegradable sunscreen to your Mexico packing list ! Regular sunscreen is prohibited when swimming in the ocean and cenotes in Mexico, so you’ll need to pack some biodegradable sunscreen for sun protection. I recommend Sun Bum Sunscreen , which is reef-friendly, vegan, and cruelty-free.

Our guide JC picked us up very punctually at the agreed meeting point. We have, thanks to our very nice guide, seen a lot of the island and also learned a lot about Cozumel, as JC patiently answered our many questions. We had a lot of fun and it was a great tour. Also the booking and handling before the tour was very professional and friendly.

Rebecca S. – 22. May 2022

We did the private island jeep tour as well as the private snorkeling trip El Cielo. Our whole family was thrilled, especially by the animals in the wild that we could admire. Thank you Birgit for the uncomplicated and very nice communication the whole time! We recommend you without reservation! Very dear greetings!

Rebecca S. – 7. May 2022

We have made a jeep tour around the island with LeonTours. We were picked up on time at the hotel with the jeep by our guide Carlos and drove first to El Cedral and have learned there about the history and origin of much interesting. We continued through San Miguel de Cozumel to the Tequila Museum where we had a great tasting. Afterwards we drove over a long panorama road along the east coast directly at the sea. There are beautiful beaches with bars and restaurants without hotels. As a highlight we visited the Punta Sur National Park with its crocodiles, a beautiful lighthouse with breathtaking views over the large lagoon lamdschaft and the sea and a really fancy stand the del Cielo, where we got a really great lunch. Our guide Carlos was super nice, told us a lot about Cozumel and dropped us off at our own request in San Miguel, where we ended the day with fresh churros and a cocktail. From our point of view an absolutely nice tour to get to know Cozumel and the organization through LeonTours was absolutely uncomplicated and very very reliable. We were very enthusiastic about this day and would make a trip with LeonTours again at any time.

Super organized jeep tour on Cozumel, very nice guide, no mass tourism, interesting and really beautiful nature park, simply recommend!!!

Vincent H. – 7. April 2022

Super jeep safari with individual private care by the agency owner. Already in the run-up and on the tour everything super professional! Birgit could also tell a lot about Cozumel and Mexico. Anytime again! Only to recommend!

Shannon G. – 7. March 2022

We had a super jeep tour with Miguel. He has brought us close to the beauty of the island with all facets. We were only 8 people, which we liked very much. At our request, Miguel has still made possible that we could change our jeep. It was a great experience, in which our communicative guide had a great share.

Sandy P. – 7. February 2022

We were on a private jeep tour, which really means just our guide Miguel and us. No mass tourism! Thus, we had enough time to look at the interesting points for us in peace. Miguel has also inserted stops where we still wanted to look. Highlight were e.g. the turtle nests and the traces of the babies to see. The nature reserve park is uniquely beautiful – we were lucky to observe two crocodiles in the wild. The tequila distillery was not very exciting for us, but the rest was top! Our guide took us snorkeling at a beautiful beach and after a simple but very tasty snack we went back. We can recommend Leon tours and especially the guide MIGUEL with a clear conscience.

Sarah P. – 3. January 2022

Our jeep tour with Rodrigo was really great. We were in a very small group of 4. He really did not speak English so fast that we understood it well. We were allowed to drive the jeep ourselves. It was a great day.

Serafino L. – 7. December 2021

Highly recommended: ~ easy requests and good advice via Whatts App number on the website. ~ English and German speaking guides ~ our guide – Miguel, very good English, Mexican: very very friendly, individual approached to our needs, great skill about country and people

Wanda B. – 7. September 2021

After very friendly and flexible arrangement in advance (we had to tender and therefore was not quite clear when we were there), the day has more than exceeded our expectations!!! Our driver Jose Miguel (see also picture in the middle) was a super dedicated and nice guide who could explain a lot and was up for any fun! Really perfect… After visiting a tequila “distillery” (m.E.nach best tequila I’ve drunk so far), we made some very nice stops on the coast, definitely drank the best handmade mojito ever, were at Maja ruins, in a nature park with free-living crocodiles – virtually close enough to touch, on a lighthouse with a great overview of the island and the coast and still about 2h on the beach with “lunch”. It was an all around successful event and a great day (for us the best of the cruise). If we are back on Cozumel or come to Cozumel, we will certainly be happy to come back to your offer! ??

Tracy M. – 7. July 2021

Fantastic experience We had a great private jeep tour of cozumel yesterday. A dream came true. In advance perfect problem-free contact with Birgit for arrangements. Simply great On the day itself we were picked up by our guide Carlos and drove through st. Miguel driven. We stopped at a small Mayan site, visited a church and learned a lot about the country and its people. Then we went on to the tequilla factory. There we were initiated into the secrets of tequilla production. Afterwards we had a delicious tasting. From there we went to the area of the crocodiles and we actually saw 4 of them. Afterwards we drove along the coast. A trau with I can only say. The highlight was the view from the lighthouse. Mexico and its diversity. Finally, we were still in a small beach bar eat and relax. It was an all around successful trip with many beautiful memories. Many thanks to Birgit and Carlos our guide

Tine B. – 7. November 2020

We had a wonderful day with our guide Jorge. He picked us up with a great jeep and showed us the most beautiful places of Conzumel. He took so much time and explained a lot – in the end he even snorkeled with us. The spots were all a dream – the island is so beautiful. We can only recommend the private tour for two. Nothing was missing. It is worth it! Thanks also to Birgit who has made the tour so easy and uncomplicated fhr6ubs via whats app clear. Great service you have ?

10. Best Tour For People Who Don’t Want to Get Wet

Invisible boat snorkeling adventure.

One of the best snorkel tours in Cozumel – with amazing views.

Invisible Boat Snorkeling Adventure is the perfect solution for groups of people where some people want to swim and some don’t. You have the option to snorkel or stay dry in the boat while seeing all the fish, turtles, coral, and more.

It takes the glass-bottom boat concept to a new extreme. The boat is completely translucent so you’ll feel like you’re flying over the water.

Whether you get in the water or stay in the boat, you’ll see all the fish and sea life and have an amazing day.

Beyond perfect for our family. I thought the boat would be a little hokey. It was seriously very cool. If you’re nervous about getting in the water…. Perfect solution. And you can still get in the water. -Mary_G

Getting to Cozumel

To get to Cozumel you have a couple of options. The easiest way is to fly directly into Cozumel International Airport (CZM). Many major airlines offer flights to Cozumel from various cities in the United States and other countries. Once you arrive at the airport, you can easily reach your destination on the island by shuttle .

Another option is to fly into Cancun International Airport (CUN), which is a popular gateway to the region. From Cancun, you’ll need to make your way to Playa del Carmen , which is about an hour’s drive south of Cancun. There are several transportation options available, including private shuttles , taxis, and public buses (ADO) .

Once you reach Playa del Carmen , you can catch a ferry to Cozumel. The ferry ride takes approximately 45 minutes, and there are multiple departures throughout the day. The ferry companies operating this route include Ultramar and Winjet. The tickets can be purchased at the ferry terminal or online in advance.

If you’re vacationing in Playa del Carmen, the ferry makes it easy to take a day trip over to Cozumel for some snorkeling .

When to Visit Cozumel

The best time to visit Cozumel for snorkeling is during the dry season, which typically runs from November to April. During this time, the weather is generally sunny and the water visibility is at its best. The water temperature is also quite comfortable, ranging from 77°F (25°C) to 82°F (28°C).

However, it’s worth noting that Cozumel can be quite busy with tourists during the peak season, which is from December to February. If you prefer a quieter experience, visiting in the shoulder seasons of November or April may be a good option.

I’ve snorkeled year-round in Cozumel and it’s nearly always wonderful. Occasionally if a storm comes through the water will be a bit cloudy but it clears up quickly.

The Mesoamerican Reef System

The Mesoamerican Reef system is the second-largest barrier reef in the world and stretches over 1,000 kilometers along the coasts of Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, and Honduras.

It is a major attraction for snorkelers in Cozumel due to its incredible biodiversity and vibrant coral formations. Snorkeling in Cozumel allows you to explore a small portion of this magnificent reef system , which is home to over 500 species of fish and 65 species of coral.

The crystal-clear waters of Cozumel provide excellent visibility, making it an ideal destination for snorkelers of all skill levels.

Tips For Snorkeling In Cozumel

  • Choose the right location: Cozumel offers numerous snorkeling spots, so it’s important to choose the right one based on your skill level and preferences. By taking a snorkel tour, you’ll be sure to go to a great spot.
  • Bring your own gear: While there are plenty of places to rent snorkeling gear in Cozumel if you have your own equipment, it’s always best to bring it along. This way, you can ensure a proper fit and have gear that you’re comfortable with.
  • If you’re going to be snorkeling a few times on your trip, buying your own equipment may be cheaper than renting. I like this set . It’s not too expensive but really good quality.
  • Use a rash guard : Even with sunscreen, your skin can quickly burn. Wear a rash guard to protect yourself from the sun.
  • Apply sunscreen: Make sure to choose reef-safe sunscreen to minimize any potential damage to the coral reefs in case you end up back in the water.
  • Respect the marine life: Cozumel is home to a diverse range of marine life, including colorful fish, turtles, and coral reefs. It’s important to respect their habitat and avoid touching or disturbing them. Remember, you’re a guest in their environment.
  • Stay hydrated: Snorkeling can be physically demanding, so it’s important to stay hydrated. Bring along a refillable water bottle and drink plenty of fluids before, during, and after your snorkeling adventure.
  • Follow local regulations: Cozumel has specific regulations in place to protect its marine ecosystem. Make sure to follow any guidelines or restrictions set by the local authorities to help preserve the reef system for future generations.

Responsible Snorkeling in Cozumel

Responsible snorkeling in Cozumel is important to ensure the preservation of the marine ecosystem. Here are some tips for snorkeling responsibly:

  • Respect the marine life: Avoid touching or disturbing the coral reefs and marine animals. Keep a safe distance and observe them from afar.
  • Use reef-safe sunscreen : Regular sunscreen can contain harmful chemicals that can damage coral reefs. Opt for reef-safe sunscreen that is free of oxybenzone and octinoxate.
  • Do not feed the fish: Feeding fish can disrupt their natural feeding patterns and can lead to dependency on humans for food. Let them find their own food sources.
  • Do not collect souvenirs: It is illegal to collect or remove any marine life or coral from the reefs in Cozumel. Leave everything as you found it to preserve the ecosystem.
  • Practice good buoyancy control: Avoid touching or standing on the coral reefs as this can cause damage. Maintain good buoyancy control and swim with a relaxed and gentle kick.

By snorkeling responsibly, you can help protect the beautiful marine life and coral reefs in Cozumel for future generations to enjoy.

What to Bring for Snorkeling in Cozumel

Bringing your own snorkel gear means that the mask will fit right and the snorkel hasn’t been in hundreds of mouths. (Yes, they disinfect them, but still … ick.)

Also, all snorkels are not created equal. Some let more water in through the top and into your mouth. It’s much better to have a snorkel designed to decrease water intake.

If you want to bring your own snorkel gear, here’s what you need:

Snorkel, mask, and fins. This is a good mid-range set with a dry-top snorkel .

Tours will provide life jackets on request. If you’re going to be snorkeling on your own, this is a good compact, inflatable snorkel vest :

A rash guard is great for protecting your skin from the sun . It will also help you use less sunscreen.

Reef-safe sunscreen will keep you and the coral protected.

Water shoes will protect your feet from rocky beaches. They’re also great for slippery boat docks.
