Independence Day of Tajikistan, also known as the Day of State Independence of the Republic of Tajikistan, is observed every year on September 9. In 1991, the Communist Party that had been ruling Tajikistan was dissolved and a resolution was adopted on the State Independence of the Republic of Tajikistan. This also came into being with the dissolution of the Soviet Union. It is one of the main events of Tajikistan every year. On this day, many businesses are closed and people participate in lighting fireworks and witnessing the famous ‘21-gun salute.’

History of Independence Day of Tajikistan

Tajikistan is a landlocked country in Central Asia, formally known as the Republic of Tajikistan. Dushanbe is the country’s capital and largest city. It is bordered on the south by Afghanistan, on the west by Uzbekistan, on the north by Kyrgyzstan, and on the east by China. Sections of Afghanistan and Uzbekistan are part of the Tajik people’s traditional homelands as well. Tajikistan was once home to multiple ancient cultures, including the Neolithic and Bronze Age metropolis of Sarazm, and was afterward ruled by kingdoms of several faiths and cultures, including Buddhism, Nestorian Christianity, Hinduism, and Islam.

Several empires and dynasties have ruled over the region, including the Achaemenid Empire, Sasanian Empire, Hephthalite Empire, Samanid Empire, and Mongol Empire. The Russian Empire then seized the territory, which was then taken over by the Soviet Union. The country’s existing borders were drawn when it was an autonomous republic within the Soviet Union before becoming a full-fledged Soviet republic in 1929.

Faced with a spillover of upheaval in Eastern Europe that began in Poland, the Tajik Soviet Socialist Republic, along with other U.S.S.R. republics, declared independence. However, this independence was declared while the Soviet Union was still in existence. Despite this, the declaration was simply the first step on the road to Tajikistan’s true independence.

The national republics began the process of declaring national independence after the failed coup staged by the State Committee on the State of Emergency in August 1991. Tajikistan’s Communist Party, which had previously ruled the country, was likewise legally disbanded. The Supreme Soviet issued a Resolution and Declaration “On State Independence of the Republic of Tajikistan” on September 9, 1991, which was formally signed by acting president Qadriddin Aslonov. Tajikistan was granted formal independence on December 26, 1991, following the disintegration of the Soviet Union.

9 SEPTEMBER – INDEPENDENCE DAY OF THE REPUBLIC OF TAJIKISTAN

Independence is the highest and most valuable achievement of the Tajiks. Thirty two years ago the most important historical event in the fate of the Tajik nation took place: the state independence of the Republic of Tajikistan was declared. This joyful event took place at the beginning of September 1991, and September 9 was officially adopted as the State Independence Day of the Republic of Tajikistan. From that time until today, this auspicious date is considered a holy holiday for the Tajik nation.

This great gift, along with its acquisition, brought light and intelligence, love and loyalty, prosperity and freedom, harmony and coexistence, and peace and eternity to the great Tajik people and dear Tajikistan.

Over the years, our nation has gone through the ups and downs of history and tough trials, but it has preserved the achievements of its original culture, national identity, pure native language, science and world-wide literature. It is known to everyone that our forefathers expressed the best and clearest dreams and aspirations of mankind and the pillars of morality by inculcating the valuable thought of “Good thoughts, good words and good deeds”. .

It was such an advanced civilization, traditions and rituals with a vital aspect, life-creating thinking and high intellectual knowledge of our ancestors that they became the treasure of human civilization starting from Zoroaster and Moni, to Rudaki and Firdawsi, Abu Ali Sino and Nasir Khisrav, Umar Khayyam and Imam Ghazzoli, Sheikh Attor and Jalal al-Din Balkhi, Saadi and Hafiz, Khoja Kamal and Mavlana Jami, Sayido and Bedil have given hundreds of geniuses of science, literature and culture.

The era of Independence created a real opportunity for us to choose the path of the present and future of the nation and further progress of our beloved country towards a democratic, law-based and secular society. Independence for us is the highest symbol of the Motherland and patriotism, the greatest gift of statehood and independent statehood, continuous creative endeavors, determination and selfless efforts to achieve political, economic and cultural independence, strengthened the norms of civil society and at the same time free life of every individual and the highest level of happiness. provided the real nation. For us, independence is a prominent sign of the stability of the state, the preservation of the image of the nation, a symbol of originality and identity, historical ideals and dreams, an international passport and the honor and prestige of joining the independent country of Tajikistan to the civilized world. Today, all the inhabitants of our free and prosperous country are proud that twenty-five years ago, we laid the first bricks of the foundation of our real independence and national statehood, and thanks to independence, we got state symbols – the Flag, the Emblem and the new National Anthem.

The tumultuous events of the beginning of the nineties made us think about the issue of ensuring national and state security, maintaining the peace of society, maintaining peace and stability, and strengthening independence and protecting its achievements, all of which were considered an integral part of our state policy.

In November 1992, in the Arbob Palace of B. Fafurov district, the 16th session of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Tajikistan brought to the political arena a personality whose name is closely related to the further achievements of the country. From the day of the election of the head of the state, the proud son of the people, the founder of national peace and unity – the leader of the nation, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, the foundations of the constitutional structure, the norms regulating the economic, social and cultural life of the country have been introduced in all the levers of power, and the national currency has been put into circulation. National passport was recognized on the world stage. We established one of the main pillars of independent statehood – the National Army and border forces, and took constant control over the protection of the borders of the Motherland and the borders of our state. As the Founder of Peace and National Unity – Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon emphasized: “One of our most important achievements in the era of independence is state building and modern national statehood, which essentially has a legal, social and secular form.”

Now, after the passing of years and the achievement of some important achievements, we can make the following conclusion: “The new period of state building and independent statehood made us take the path of economic reforms, changing the form of ownership, forming the national economy and new management structures, and expanding it. open the way for market relations and integration of the economic system of Tajikistan to the pulse of the world economy”.Our most difficult problem for twenty-nine years was the issue of energy independence, which the head of state dealt with daily after the organization of the power structures.

This year, more than a few facilities are expected to be built and put into use on the territory of the Republic of Tajikistan dedicated to the historical date. Through independence, Tajikistan brought together the Tajiks of the world and opened its doors to compatriots abroad.

It is a good result of independence that today Tajikistan is recognized in the world as a peace-loving and peace-loving state. The peace experience of Tajiks has become a source of education for peace-loving people of the world, which is a source of pride for every Tajik nation. NUR-SULTAN, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) -- In honor of the 30th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Tajikistan, a grand national procession was held in Dushanbe on Thursday.

President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon congratulated the inhabitants of the capital and the people of Tajikistan on the anniversary of state independence in the central square.

"Our greatest achievement during the state's independence is peace, tranquillity, political stability, and national unity. These achievements came at a hefty price and as a result of hard work. Therefore, it is a civic duty for each of us to protect them," noted the president in his speech.

After the speech, a march was held from Rudaki Avenue to Ismoili Somoni Street, in which more than 30,000 workers from various professions, students and members of educational institutions took part. Enditem

Independence Day in Tajikistan is celebrated every 9 September. The date looks back to the nation’s independence from the USSR back in 1991.

In 1924, while under Soviet rule, an “autonomous” Tajik enclave was created within Uzbek SSR. Then, in 1929, Tajik SSR became a separate Soviet Socialist Republic. This was still far short of independence, of course, but without being a separate republic in the Soviet Union first, there might never have been an independent Tajikistan.

Sadly, a civil war then raged on from 1992 till 1997. But today, there is much greater stability in the country, and the economy is beginning to grow and counteract the ongoing poverty.

Every 9 September, the people of Tajikistan celebrate their freedom from the control of the Soviet Union as well as Tajik and other cultures that exist in the nation.
