Tours is a city in the center-west of France on the banks of the Loire and Cher rivers with a population of nearly 140,000. Its population is rather young, with 45% of the inhabitants of Tours being under 30 years old. The city of Tours has played an extremely important role in French history. Former royal capital under the Valois, capital of loyalty for Henri III and Henri IV during the Wars of Religion and even a city of retreat during the Second World War, Tours is a stronghold in France. Its rich history is reflected in magnificent monuments such as its City Hall or the Cathedral Saint-Gatien de Tours. Moreover, Tours is surrounded by the incredible Chateaux of the Loire Valley.

What to visit in Tours?

Tours, also known as the Little Paris for its rich history and its relationship with art, is full of places to discover. One thinks of the Vieux-Tours, a district representing the historical center of the city, full of buildings with very typical architecture and hosting the symbol of the city, the Saint-Gatien Cathedral. You can also go to the Place Plumereau, which is very rich in character and a very pleasant atmosphere to relax. Finally, during a stay in Tours, you can enjoy a walk in the heart of the magnificent Botanical Garden of Tours which will seduce people of all ages.

The different parking rules in Tours.

In Tours, there are 3 different types of zones, the red one, the most expensive with a rate of €1.90 per hour, the orange one with a rate of €1.70 per hour and finally, the blue one, the cheapest with a rate of €1.30 per hour. The first two zones are limited to 2 hours of parking with a dissuasive fare thereafter. The blue zone is limited to 4 hours of parking. Finally, you can take advantage of free parking from 12pm to 2pm and from 6:30pm to 9am.

Where to park in Tours?

Because of its beauty and its proximity to the numerous castles of the Loire Valley, Tours welcomes every year many tourists coming to visit the city or the region. This large number of visitors can make parking difficult, especially during the high season. This was one of the best meals of a 15 day trip.Like many restaurants, we had selected Le Turon based on the reviews, but our hotel manager had also mentioned that it was one of the best in the area. We were seated in an... arched stone ceiling dining area in the lower floor, which appeared to have been a wine cellar, and the atmosphere was very intimate. Service was good, and we each had the menu gourmand, with entree, plat, frommage and dessert. All were outstanding, with the filet de boeuf grille entree and moelleux au chocolat dessert our favorite. Price was good for the quality of food. Highly recommend this restaurant. More

We happened to be in Tours on a Sunday and Monday nights and none of the Michelin Star Restaurants were open. We reserved a table and we were so pleased we did. Booking was essential. The food was amazing - as good as many a... michelin one star. The portions were enormous - so I suggest you build up an appetite to be able to have the 4 course menu - which was excellent value too. Three years ago we ended up for lunch in Le Turon and enjoyed our meal, the wine and the atmosphere. From the little amuse on the house till the espresso to wake us from our dream. Even the bill was pleasant. This year we were... back in Tours and made shure not to miss Le Turon. We were excited, swapped plates to let each other taste our choices. Visited Le Turon on recommendation of son who is studying in Tours and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. Three of us enjoyed three excellent three course meals washed down with very acceptable wines. We visited Le Turon on our last night in Tours and it made a perfect bookend to our earlier visit to the very different, but equally excellent, Au Lapin Qui Fume. While the latter provides excellent, hearty bistro fare, Le Turon tends more towards the... Nouvelle Cuisine style, with small portions of delicately cooked food, supplemented with alchemical wisps of other flavorful ingredients. The set menu is reasonable, and varied enough to cater to every pallet. The waitstaff were eager and helpful with recommendations and we passed a delightful couple of hours there. This popular restaurant fills up quickly so arrive early or book ahead, but don't miss the chance to visit. More

There are many similar offerings in Tours and reading the reviews on TA you might wonder why they don't have Michelin stars. Answer is because the food is actually not all that special. To be honest I would expect to find food of similar or... better quality in most towns in England. Anyway this place is pleasant enough. I had monkfish tartare to start which was overpowered by the marinade (very similar to ceviche that is common in Peru) and my wife the eggs with foie gras. This came in a sauce that was supposedly a Chinon wine reduction but actually tasted like oxtail soup!). Main courses were 7 hour lamb (come on guys stewing lamb for ages is not rocket science!) which was ok and sea bream with some rice which was a very nicely cooked piece of fish. At approx 75 Euros inc aperitif and wine pretty good value. Not bad at all just that the food did not meet the standards suggested by rave reviews More

I ate dinner here with my wife and daughter in early August, based on a recommendation from Mme. Laurence at the Manoir du Tours hotel. They have a fixed price menu. The restaurant is on the street that most restaurants in town are on (Rue... du Colbert). The menu has English subtitles. The food, service, and atmosphere is excellent. Traditional French cuisine without pretense. Many locals at there also, not just tourists. Even if you do not eat here, you should take a stroll down the street. I think it looks like a quintessential small town French street. More

Everything on the line, fast-food system - all hot dishes came with potatoes, not very clean and the tabletops smelled strongly of chlorine

Been wanting to go Le Turon on Rue Colbert since we arrived in Tour. Alas it was open for dinner (apparently closed on Mondays and Lunch time on Tuesday and Wednesday). The staff were all very friendly. We decided on 1 plat (entree or main)... + 2nd plat (main or dessert), for 12 Euros. I had the Warm Farm Goats Cheese & Rillons (like a cured pork belly) Salad. It was delicious. The Goat cheese was in what in a filo pastry parcel, and baked till warm. A must try. Then followed by a Fillet of Pork with apple sauce and potatoes. My daughter had the Chicken Fricasee which was also good, followed by an Apple crumble with Caramel ice Cream - very nice. The whole bill with a glass of Champagne Cocktail and Mineral Water was 42 Euros. One of the best meals we've had in Tour so far. More

We visited because we wanted local food prepared well and this exceeded our expectations. We had a scallop serviche to start, which was delicious, such a well balanced dish. Food is truly amazing! I wish wish I could give them 5 stars...but wait is waaaay too long! But if you have few hours to spare, you will love everything they have to offer!

The food is really good. The service and the presentation are excellent and the taste just kills it. The place is rather simple though and the prices are OK for the quality you get.

“Enclosed by Red Rocks with Valley view”

Arrived in a dust storm with high winds forecasted for next couple days. We had not booked but staff was friendly and accomodating. So much better sheltered than the KOA in the valley. Easy access to We camped at Goulding's Lodge & Campground in a Motorhome.

Explore everything you can. Campground has a couple nice hikes and of course explore Monument Valley, take a tour and the area, so much to see....

“Great campground!”

Stayed one night. Was a little hard to find since roads were a bit bad leading to campground. Check in staff were not very friendly. Our first site (#21) not big enough to not unhook our toad. I We camped at Goulding's Lodge & Campground in a Motorhome.

“Exceptional views”

Older campground so paved roads are quite narrow. Spots are pretty close together but the views are amazing. Several good short hikes from the campground. We would stay here again if we were in the We camped at Goulding's Lodge & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

The Gouldings Deluxe tour was worth the money. Valley of the Gods was also a neat drive but it is 16 miles on a gravel road so be prepared! Hike to Gouldings Arch and the Canyon, both from the campsite....

“Beautiful Campground”

Great location and very close to monument valley, the navajo visitor center and the navajo 17 mile loop. Sites were a little cozy and the interior roads are fairly tight. The whole campground is We camped at Goulding's Lodge & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

One fun thing to see is the Forest Gump hill about 12 miles from the campground....

“Stunning location!!!”

When we were here the pool was closed and the hours various facilities were open were subject to change. The bathrooms have limited access and the showers were small. HOWEVER, the views will knock We camped at Goulding's Lodge & Campground in a Motorhome.

So much to see and do. Plan to stay at least a couple of days. Pay to take a tour of Monument Valley!!! You get to see an additional section of the park that you cant drive yourself to. Opting to drive yourself is recommended only for high clearance 4x4s and on a tour even your normal driver can look around and enjoy the sights. We also drove Valley of the...

Georgetown canal boat tours face uncertain future after NPS ends partnership

There are lingering questions about the future of Georgetown’s C&O canal boat tours, after the National Park Service announced it’s ending its philanthropic agreement with the nonprofit Georgetown Heritage .

Last month, NPS said the agreement is being terminated effective April 29. However, in a statement, the agency said the move doesn’t “change the operation of the canal boat in Georgetown.”

D.C.’s government paid for the construction of the canal boat and Georgetown Heritage, the nonprofit that works to improve National Parks in Georgetown, owns it. The organization operates the boat under a separate agreement with the Park Service.

Maggie Downing, Georgetown Heritage’s executive vice president, said the group’s ownership of the boat isn’t in jeopardy, “but what it will take for us to be able to raise the money and keep this organization going is certainly going to be challenging in the next couple of years,” she said.

“We do remain committed to owning and operating the boat,” Downing said. “But I think it may be a difficult path getting there.”

The nonprofit will have some time to work toward that goal. The boat won’t be operating for the next two years while repairs are made to the canal. The soonest the boat would be able to return to the canal is 2026, Downing said.

About 40,000 people have participated in the tours over the two seasons they were offered, according to Downing.

“It’s a really leisurely experience to look out and see Georgetown from a different vantage point, and to learn about the history, to hear the stories of the people who built the canal and who lived their lives along the canal,” Downing said.

Georgetown Heritage operates the boat under a cooperating agreement with the Park Service. The Philanthropic Partnership Agreement allowed the nonprofit to fundraise for projects in the park.

The group had plans to make accessibility improvements along the towpath, and to install “recreational opportunities down at the aqueduct, a dock for canoeing and kayaking along the canal,” Downing said.

“The cancellation of the Philanthropic Partnership Agreement really puts the future of any of those improvements to the park in danger,” Downing said.

In its March statement, the Park Service said terminating a philanthropic agreement is rare and happens “only after exhausting all other avenues to try to resolve the issues.”

“There have been multiple violations of the Philanthropic Partnership Agreement that have led to irreconcilable differences in the partnership, making it impossible to maintain the collaborative relationship necessary to accomplish mutually identified goals as required by the PPA,” the Park Service said in a statement to WTOP. “Georgetown Heritage has promoted actions that disregard the NPS mandate to protect park resources.”

The agreement, Downing said, was terminated because “current leadership at the park no longer wants to pursue these projects.”

Charging elephant kills an American woman on 'bucket list trip' in Zambia

An American woman who was on what she had called her "last big trip" was killed when a charging elephant flipped over the car she was traveling in at a national park in Zambia .

The “aggressive” creature buffeted the vehicle carrying six tourists and a guide, tour operator Wilderness said in a statement Tuesday. It said the 79-year-old victim died after Saturday's incident on a game drive at the Kafue National Park in western Zambia.

The company did not name the victim but Rona Wells, her daughter, identified her as Gail Mattson in a post on Facebook. She said her mother died in a “tragic accident while on her dream adventure.”

A video circulating on social media apparently showing the incident shows a large elephant running toward a car, which slows down as the animal approaches its left side. The elephant then flips the vehicle over and the passengers can be heard gasping as the car rolls over.

NBC News does not know the condition or identity of the person who filmed the video.

Photos shared online of the car, which is emblazoned with the logo of the tour operator, show it tipped onto its side after the incident, with a deep dent in two of its side doors.

Wilderness, which describes itself as a “leading conservation and hospitality company” operating in eight African countries, including Zambia, did not respond to NBC News when asked to confirm the authenticity of the video and the photos.

But the tour operator’s CEO, Keith Vincent, said in the statement that the company’s “guides are all extremely well trained and experienced.”

"Sadly in this instance the terrain and vegetation was such that the guide’s route became blocked and he could not move the vehicle out of harm’s way quickly enough,” he added.

Another woman was also injured in the incident and taken to a medical facility in South Africa, the Wilderness statement said, adding that four others were treated for minor injuries.

“It’s extremely rare to see an elephant that irate,” Marlon du Toit, a wildlife photographer and safari guide, told the “TODAY” show Thursday. “Across Africa, there are thousands and thousands of guests on safari on a daily basis with no negative consequences.”

The exact cause of Mattson’s death was unclear, but the company said her body would be repatriated to her family in the United States with the support of local Zambian authorities and the U.S. Embassy in the capital, Lusaka.

“This is a tragic event and we extend our deepest condolences to the family of the guest who died,” the statement added.

NBC News has reached out to Mattson's family for further comment.

Kafue National Park is Zambia’s largest and oldest national park, according to its website, and spans an area of more than 8,000 square miles. Vast regions of the park remain unexplored and the website says it is home to a variety of untamed wildlife.

A 'bucket list trip'

Mattson spent her winters in Sun City West, Arizona, playing bridge and cards, but during the rest of the year, she "travels all over the world," her friend Brenda Biggs told NBC News. Biggs and her husband, John Longabauth, became friends with Mattson when they moved to the area 6 ½ years ago.

Longabauth said Mattson spoke to the couple about her upcoming safari trip about two weeks ago, and called it "one of her bucket list trips." He said she was very excited for the adventure.

Before she left, she gave the couple concert tickets for a show that would happen while she was traveling, telling them to enjoy the concert and "I'll see you when I get back," Longabauth recalled of the conversation.

Biggs said Mattson, who was almost 80 years old, told her that the African safari was her "my last big trip." She said Mattson was "super excited because it was like the culmination of all the trips that she had gone on."

An avid traveler, Mattson took to trips to Europe and Asia, Longabauth recalled, noting that she might have been to South America, too.

Biggs called her friend "flamboyant," "friendly" and "fabulous" and said she loved bright colors. Mattson had taken over Biggs’ job as the event planner for their 200-member bridge club, she said.

"Gail was one of the more up people you'd ever want to meet," Longabauth said. "She was always up. She was always optimistic. She was always seeing the good side of everybody."

K-Pop star Park Bo-Ram dies aged 30

K-Pop singer Park Bo-Ram has died aged 30.

She is said to have been found unconscious at a friend’s house, with a statement announced by agency Xanadu Entertainment reading: ‘Park Bo Ram suddenly left us in the late evening of April 11.’

In the statement sent to AllKPop , it went on: ‘Our hearts are deeply troubled as we deliver this sudden news to her fans

‘A wake and funeral proceedings will be scheduled after a discussion with the singer’s family.’

It’s said her cause of death is being investigated by police.

Bo-Ram rose to fame on South Korean talent competition in 2010, finishing in eighth place on SuperStar K2.

She later signed to an agent and recorded the soundtrack for Always for TV series 49 days.

Bo-Ram won an Artist of the Year honour in 2014, with the single Beautiful featuring rapper Zico.

The following year, she released her first album, Celepretty, which included hit Beautiful.

Her latest single, I Miss You, was released just days ago, on April 3.

Fans have taken to social media to pay tribute, with @asteriskeu writing: ‘I knew her during the ‘celepretty’ era and still on my playlist until now. Rest in peace Park Boram.’

@amour_ksy added: ‘Rest in peace Park Boram, praying for her, her family and friends.’

ASU 2024 spring graduation: When is it, what can I bring and where should I park?

Graduation day is less than a month away for students across Arizona. Arizona State University students will celebrate among thousands of their peers this May at the university’s spring commencement ceremonies.

Many who are set to graduate started their college careers in the midst of a global pandemic.

Last year, ASU celebrated 19,700 graduating students. Of them, 15% were international students, roughly 70% attended in-person and nearly half were Arizona residents. ASU, with campuses in Tempe and Phoenix, is one of the largest universities in the country with more than 140,000 students enrolled in total.

Here’s what to know before celebration day for the Sun Devils.

When is ASU graduation?

This year, spring commencement will be on May 6 for both graduate and undergraduate ASU students. The ceremonies will be at different times of day, allowing guests to attend both. The undergraduate ceremony will last around 90 minutes and no tickets are required for either ceremony.

ASU graduate commencement will be at 9 a.m. at Desert Financial Arena. Doors are set to open at 7:30 a.m.

Undergraduate commencement will be at 7:30 p.m. at Frank Kush Field at Mountain America Stadium. Doors are set to open at 6 p.m.

More than 30 school-specific convocations are scheduled throughout graduation week. For a full list, including locations and times, visit ASU’s site .

What can I bring to ASU's graduation?

Guests for graduation will have to adhere to ASU’s clear bag policy . All clutch bags larger than 4.5 by 6.5 inches will need to be transparent, such as a gallon-sized plastic bag. Seat cushions without pockets or zippers are allowed.

The Packers Tailgate Tour continued on Wednesday morning with visits at Indian Trail High School in Kenosha and Badger High School located in Lake Geneva.

The tour bus traveled to Manitowoc Lincoln High School, Messmer High School and Uline to meet with employees, before making a final stop at The Club at Strawberry Creek for a fundraising event to conclude the first day.
