Tadej Pogacar retains title with win at Il Lombardia 2022 – Results

The 2021 winner repeats his triumph in Como, out-sprinting Enric Mas in a two-man duel to the line.

Slovenia's Tadej Pogacar became the first man to win Il Lombardia on each of his first two appearances at the road cycling October classic in Italy with victory on Saturday (8 October) in the "Race of the Falling Leaves".

He out-sprinted Movistar's Spanish rider Enric Mas in a two-man duel, with Mikel Landa claiming third place.

The 253-kilometre (157-mile) trek from Bergamo to Como, with its nine climbs, was the one-day classic with the most climbing on the 2022 calendar, featuring 4,852 metres (15,918 feet) of altitude gain.

A breakaway was released early in the race and were allowed to stay up the road until the Madonna del Ghisallo, when the peloton swallowed up the remainder of the breakaway stragglers with around 70 km to go.

Pogacar attacked on Civiglio, the penultimate climb, with Mas following on the Slovenian's wheel. While they allowed Landa to regroup with them, Tour de France winner Jonas Vingegaard and Colombian national champion Sergio Higuita were distanced by the movement from Pogacar.

It meant the front three hit the final San Fermo della Battaglia climb together with 8km to the line – and it was Mas who moved first with 6km to go, the Slovenian following him as they distanced Landa. Both men crested the climb together, setting up a two-man sprint to the line.

Mas blinked first, launching with 150m to go, and ran out of legs going full gas in the sprint while Pogacar cruised over the line, having time to raise his arms in celebration.

"It's really amazing to come back and to repeat the victory, the teamwork – I cannot say how grateful I am that the team did such an amazing job. To pull it off in the last race of the season in Lombardy is amazing. The race went just how we wanted, I tried to attack on Civiglio but Mas was clearly on the same level as me on the climb. We tried to co-operate until the final and it went the way we wanted," Pogacar said after the race.

The race was also notable for being the swan-songs of two veterans of the peloton, Spain's 42-year-old Alejandro Valverde (Movistar Team) and the 37-year-old Italian Vincenzo Nibali (Astana Qazaqstan Team), who won five Grand Tours between them during their careers.

Valverde finished with the largest chase group, securing another top-10 finish on his farewell to professional cycling, while Nibali was dropped from the main group on the Civiglio and ended well off the pace.

Tour of Lombardy 2022: The Route

The riders set off from Bergamo to enter an exceptionally mountainous first part. The first climb appears after roughly 23 kilometres in the shape of the Forcella di Bianzano. It’s a gentle opener of 6.4 kilometres at 5%. The descent coincides with the base of the next ascent. The Passo di Ganda is 9.2 kilometres long and goes up at 7.3%. So, that’s something to sink your teeth into.

The race is now 50 kilometres underway and descends – pepped up with some uphill kicks – to the following climb. This one goes to the roof of Il Lombardia in Dossena. To get there riders climb for 5.5 kilometres at an average gradient of 4.9%. The village is situated at 1,061 metres above sea level.

The riders plunge down into San Giovanni Bianco at the foot of the 18.2 kilometres long Forcella di Bura. Sounds intimidating, but the average gradient will be reassuring to lesser climbers: 2.5%. The first 8.8 kilometres go up at 4.5% and, after a short downhill, the climbing continues at similar gradients.

And there we go again, nosediving into the village Brambilla, where the last climb of the mountainous first half appears. The Colle di Berbenno accounts for 4.5 kilometres of climbing at 6.2%. Still more than 130 kilometres to go at the top.

The route then enters a calm phase with hardly any hurdles for the next 80 kilometres. Most of it runs along Lago di Garlate and, later, Lago di Como. Cruising along the beautiful shores the riders reach Bellagio. Which is the starting point of one of the most emblematic climbs of Il Lombardia.

The Madonna del Ghisallo is 8.6 kilometres long and the average gradient sits at 6.2%. Yet, most of the climb slopes at 9% or more, while the steepest ramp (14%) appears just after leaving Bellagio.

After hearing the chapel bells ringing at the summit the riders continue downhill into Asso. In recent editions with a Como finish the route turned right to Sormano just before Asso, but that’s not the case this time. The infamous Muro di Sormano is neglected and Il Lombardia leaves the mountains behind. But, not for long.

With 30 kilometres remaining the riders enter the finishing circuit to tackle the short climb to San Fermo della Battaglia straight away. This is a 2.7 kilometres hill at 7.2% that tops out at 10% just before the village. The plummet into Como is a perfect test for the finale. The first 3.7 kilometres drop at 5.9%, the last 1.6 kilometres are as good as flat.

The final lap features two climbs. First the Civiglio, a 4.2 kilometres climb at 9.8% with steepest ramps at 14%. The riders then descends back to the place where they entered the finishing circuit to continue on familiar terrain. So, again the 2.7 kilometres at 7.2% to San Fermo della Battaglia and the ensuing downhill into Como.

2024 Tour Championship leaderboard: Scottie Scheffler extends lead, Collin Morikawa in pursuit after Round 3

Scheffler appears poised to go wire-to-wire at the tour championship.

The stage is set for the final round of the 2024 Tour Championship on Sunday, and the narrative is the same as it has been all year on the PGA Tour: Everybody is trying to catch Scottie Scheffler. After opening 65-66 on the first two days, Scheffler shot another 5-under 65 moving to 26 under and opening up a five-shot lead on Collin Morikawa.

Scheffler also sits at least nine shots ahead of everyone else in this field, including Xander Schauffele, who fell back Saturday at East Lake Golf Club with his second round over 70 this week.

This is a spot Scheffler has been in before. In 2022, he led Rory McIlroy by six shots going into the final tournament of the FedEx Cup Playoffs at East Lake. That year, McIlroy not only caught but surpassed Scheffler, besting him by seven shots over the final 18 holes to win to Tour Championship and FedEx Cup by a single stroke. Will Morikawa do the same this time around? It's certainly possible but would perhaps be even more surprising than what McIlroy accomplished two years ago.

1. Scottie Scheffler (-26):  It feels strange to note that someone is this far under par after 54 holes, but  that's just how it goes  at the Tour Championship. The only reason not to already call this for Scheffler is that he has failed to touch off a six-shot lead in the final round at this course before. Still, this was a dream start for the No. 1 player in the world, who said he's trying to think about shooting more 65s and not the $25 million that he could win by finishing first on Sunday.

"I wasn't thinking about the lead out there today," Scheffler said. "There's no reason to. It's the first day of the tournament. It's 72 holes. It's a long time out there to be playing with a lead or whatever it is. I was just focused on staying in my own world and continuing to just try to execute."

2. Collin Morikawa (-21) 3. Sahith Theegala (-17) 4. Xander Schauffele (-16) T5. Adam Scott, Wyndham Clark (-15)

The good news for Morikawa is that he's taken the fewest number of strokes this week. The bad news is that this is the one tournament where that doesn't necessarily matter. He started the week six back of Scheffler, who has nearly been just as good. Coincidentally, that that same spot McIlroy started in 2022 when he went on to win.

Morikawa clicked into place on Thursday on the back nine when he made six birdies in a row; he has not looked back since with birdies on 20 of the other 45 holes he's played. Morikawa is not likely to win on Sunday, but he's at least given himself a chance.

"I mean, it's going to be very hard, but I believe in myself that I can do it," he said. "Five shots is a lot, but two-shot swings happen. I think I've seen a couple over the past few days. I've just got to play my game. I've got to go low. I know that. Hopefully, I've got that in me. I've got 18 holes left to the season. I keep talking about that, but I'm going to put everything I have into these next 24 hours."

Sahith's Call

Theegala, who made seven birdies in his last eight holes, called a penalty on himself for touching the sand in a fairway bunker on the third hole. It's not something anyone seemed to be able to see, but Theegala voiced it, and it likely cost him any legitimate shot at winning $25 million and perhaps a spot or two in the final FedEx Cup Playoff standings, which could also be worth millions. Quite a turn of events for Theegala, who insisted on the penalty and shared his thoughts on the situation after his round.

"Immediately after I hit it, great contact, great shot, talked to Xander about it," he said. "I was like, 'Hey, dude, I think I moved some sand while I hit that shot,' and we thought that it was no big deal because there was no intent, didn't ... actually change the lie at all.

"But unfortunately, the rule is it doesn't matter the intent. If you change the lie in the direct area around the ball that could affect your swing, it is a two-shot penalty. At the end of the day, I've played so much golf. You kind of just trust your intuition and gut, and right away I thought I moved some sand there. I'm in the 90s percent that I thought I moved some sand. I'd sleep a lot better if I saw some clear image of me moving the sand.

"I really think I did move the sand. It's just an unfortunate rule. But what are you going to do, take the two shots on the chin and just roll with it."

2024 Tour Championship updated odds, picks

  • Scottie Scheffler 1-18
  • Collin Morikawa: 12-1
  • Xander Schauffele: 250-1
  • Sahith Theegala: 350-1
  • Wyndham Clark: 1500-1

This is over unless you believe Scheffler could repeat what he did in 2022 in the final round. Morikawa has been awesome this week and leads the field in strokes gained off the tee, from tee to green and overall, but unless Scheffler shoots something at or over par -- he hasn't done much of that this year -- then Morikawa is probably going to fall just short of winning this event and the $25 million that goes with it.

Rick Gehman and Greg DuCharme recap moving day at the 2024 Tour Championship and set you up for the final round of the FedEx Cup Playoffs. Follow & listen to The First Cut on  Apple Podcasts  and  Spotify .

Morikawa leads the shadow leaderboard.

Shane Lowry rolling

He's -6 on the day with a few holes left and moves into the top five. Stands to have a monster payday if he can maintain that position.

Door open for Xander Schauffele

With Scheffler just -1 through his third round, the door is open for Xander Schauffele to walk through it, but thus far he hasn't. Schauffele played the first nine in +1 and hasn't done anything on the back nine yet either.

Biggest mover

So far today it's Viktor Hovland who is -5 through 16 holes and up to T9 on the leaderboard. Going the other way, it's Tommy Fleetwood and Aaron Rai who are both +4 and T25.

Morikawa makes moves

After making bogey at the first -- just his third of the week (although his second on that par-4 1st hole -- Scottie Scheffler's lead shrinks to just three shots over Collin Morikawa and five over Xander Schauffele. I still think it's Schauffele who is the bigger threat to world No. 1, but things have gotten a bit interesting early at East Lake.

Quite a stat here.

East Lake appears to be playing a bit tougher

Thus far, with 10 players out on the course, only two are under par. We could see a tougher East Lake on Saturday, which of course will likely only play into the game plans of the best players at the top of the leaderboard.

Scottie Scheffler Slams Door on Historic 2024 With FedEx Cup

Bob harig | sep 2, 2024.

Scottie Scheffler's FedEx Cup was the exclamation point on a historic 2024 season.

ATLANTA — When the best player in golf hits one of the most cringe-inducing shots in the game, it is understandably shocking. And leads to the curiosity associated with anyone who hits a shank: how will he respond?

Scottie Scheffler hit one of those infamous ugly hosel killers during the final round of the Tour Championship on Sunday, leading to a bogey that saw his lead in the season-ending PGA Tour event drop to two shots over Collin Morikawa.

No one is immune to the shank. Not even Scottie Scheffler. pic.twitter.com/RVlQfZyzjG — PGA TOUR (@PGATOUR) September 1, 2024

Seeing as Scheffler coughed up a six-shot lead over the closing day at this tournament two years ago and had just bogeyed three of his last four holes, it was fair to wonder if things might be going awry for Scheffler, who has dominated the PGA Tour this year unlike any player since Tiger Woods.

Scheffler, who hit a shank from a fairway bunker on the 8th hole at East Lake on Sunday and saw his FedEx Cup title chances teetering, responded by hitting his tee shot stiff to the par-3 9th and then adding birdies at the 10th and 11th holes.

The lead was back to five and Scheffler was on his way to putting the finishing touches on a historic year on the PGA Tour.

Scheffler shot a final-round 67 to finish the “starting strokes” format for the Tour Championship at 30 under par (he was 20 under for the 72 holes) to defeat Morikawa by four shots and finish six ahead of Sahith Theegala.

It was his seventh official win this year on the PGA Tour, the most of any player since Woods in 2007, and capped a season that saw him win a major championship, welcome a first child and make national headlines with what turned out to be a bogus arrest for a traffic incident at the PGA Championship.

“If you can describe it in words, more power to you, because I don't think I can,” said Scheffler afterward. “It's been a long year. It's been a very fun year. I think emotionally right now I'm pretty drained.

“I really don't know how to put it into words. It's been a very eventful year but it's been really fun. You had the one weird spot there at Valhalla, which—I just don't really know what to say about it, but everything else has been pretty special.”

Scheffler earned a $25 million bonus from the FedEx Cup’s $100 million bonus payout, money which is not considered “official” in the PGA Tour record book.

MORE: Complete payouts from the Tour Championship

He earned a record $29,228,357 in official PGA Tour earnings, another $8 million for being the leading player in the Tour’s Comcast Business bonus pool through the Wyndham Championship, and then the $25 million on Sunday to bring his season haul to $62,228,357.

Just in case Scheffler is hurting, he’ll undoubtedly get some of the Player Impact Program bonus money as well.

“I think it’s on part with those great years of Tiger’s,” said Adam Scott, who tied for fourth. “I think it’s very hard today for anyone to separate themselves as much as Scottie has. I don’t think we’ve seen that in a long time. I think it’s harder to do today.”

Scheffler won the Arnold Palmer Invitational and Players Championship in back-to-back weeks in March. He then won the Masters and the RBC Heritage in consecutive weeks. He added the Memorial Tournament and the Travelers Championship before capturing the gold medal at the Olympics.

A year ago, Scheffler lamented a balky putter that clearly prevented him from winning more, despite dominating in numerous statistical categories.

Things changed when he went to a mallet-style putter prior to the Arnold Palmer event, with improved putting stats for most of the year.

Last year, he was at the bottom of the strokes-gained putting statistics at East Lake. This year, he was third—as well as first in strokes-gained off the tee, third in tee to green, third in approach to the green, and tied for first in proximity to the hole.

“I think the one thing I've always admired about Scottie is the amount of bogey-free rounds he shoots,” said Rory McIlroy, who has won the FedEx Cup three times but finished tied for ninth this year. “If you just go back over the last two, three years and you look at how many rounds he shoots that he'll shoot like 4 under par, no bogeys, doesn't look spectacular at all, but it's just so solid, doesn't really put himself out of position. When you don't make a ton of bogeys, the field has got to do something really special to keep up.

“I think golf is such a game of momentum, and when the momentum is going with you and you're making birdies and you're shooting scores in the 60s all the time, all you see are birdies and shooting scores in the 60s. It's like a self-fulfilling sort of thing.

“Then when you get it going the wrong way in golf and you're seeing bogeys, all you see is bogeys and you're shooting in the 70s and you're struggling—I think at the peak of his powers, his confidence is as high as it ever has been, and it's a pretty nice feeling to have on the golf course.”

Said Viktor Hovland, who won the FedEx Cup a year ago: “It just seems like he's basically doing what he did last year, putting probably a little bit more consistently, and when you hit it as good as he does every single week and you start making some putts, you're going to be very difficult to beat. It just seems like he's putting everything together.”

Typically the next shot after a shank is the most difficult for any golfer, but Scheffler was unfazed. He said that he’d sometimes had trouble on those kind of bunker shots but that the next one, a chip, was not a problem.

He ended up making a bogey, got a pep talk from his caddie, Ted Scott on the way to the 9th tee, and took care of business.

“I was definitely frustrated,” Scheffler said “I've been playing really solid golf the rest of the week. I've been playing really well, and I just happened to have two bad holes in a row, basically. I hadn't really had many bad holes the whole week, and they just happened to come in a row.

“Teddy did a good job of reminding me that we're still in control of the tournament, I'm still playing great, just get out and get back to work basically is the speech he kind gave me, is just get back to work, and that's what we did.”

Scottie Scheffler’s incredible season gets a fitting ending

Converts TOUR Championship’s No. 1 seed into FedExCup crown

Change Text Size

ATLANTA – There was only one acceptable outcome for Scottie Scheffler at the TOUR Championship. That made the FedExCup Playoffs finale one of the most stressful weeks of the year.

In the previous two seasons, Scheffler had relinquished the unique, two-stroke advantage that the TOUR Championship affords the FedExCup leader. Though he was the PGA TOUR Player of the Year in both 2022 and 2023 – the first player since Tiger Woods to win the award in consecutive years – he couldn’t lay claim to the TOUR’s season-long prize.

“It definitely, I think, leaves a bad taste in your mouth at the end of the year, especially when I start with the lead,” Scheffler said about his unsuccessful attempts to win the FedExCup.

He was determined to make this time different. He is too competitive and had worked too hard to settle for anything less. There was no other way to end an incredible season where he won everything from a green jacket to a gold medal.

Behind the scenes after Scottie Scheffler’s TOUR Championship win

“In the back of your head you know it’s going to come down to this,” Scheffler said, “and you have to have a great week.”

This time, he did. But he had to show one more time what separates him from his peers before he could finally lift the FedExCup for the first time.

It came in the middle of a final round that once seemed like little more than a formality. Scheffler had built a seven-shot lead with just 16 holes remaining. The lead dwindled to two, though, after his sand shot on the eighth hole caught a portion of the clubface that only amateurs find.

Scottie Scheffler suffers back-to-back bogeys after shank at TOUR Championship

His shank, and the resulting bogey, allowed Collin Morikawa to pull within two shots. That’s when Scheffler’s caddie, Ted Scott, stepped in with a simple reminder.

“Just remember who you are,” Scott said. “You’re Scottie Scheffler.”

Scheffler responded by striping a 4-iron tee shot to within 3 feet of the ninth hole, the first of three consecutive birdies that put him five ahead. An eagle at the 14th hole, where Scheffler hit a 7-iron to 16 feet, made the final four holes the coronation that Scheffler’s season deserved.

Afterward, Scott had a message for his boss: “That’s the longest lead anyone has ever slept on.”

“It’s like eight months, knowing you’re going to have a lead here,” Scott explained. “It’s a tremendous amount of pressure, and he handled it super well.”

Players reflect on Scottie Scheffler’s season

Scheffler started the week at 10-under par and then shot 20-under (65-66-66-67, 264) on the following 72 holes. His total of 30-under par was four strokes better than Collin Morikawa, who shot the week’s low 72-hole score (66-63-67-66, 262). Sahith Theegala finished third at 24 under; he was the only other player within 10 shots of Scheffler.

Scheffler led the field in Strokes Gained: Off-the-Tee (+3.4), Greens in Regulation (54 of 72) and Driving Distance (338.6 yards). He was second in Driving Accuracy (37 of 56 fairways) and third in Strokes Gained: Putting (+4.1). It was another display of Scheffler’s unmatched ballstriking ability, and an opportunity to showcase the improved putting that was key to his dominant season.

“Last year I was playing good golf and I wasn't able to make the key putts at the right time, and this year I was,” Scheffler said. “That's really just the difference.”

Scheffler may have been voted the PGA TOUR’s top player in each of the previous two years, but his seven wins in 2024 were more than the previous two years combined. His 13 wins since February 2022 are more than double any other player. Including his Olympic gold medal, which doesn’t count as an official PGA TOUR win, he was victorious eight times in 2024 alone.

He will be the reigning FedExCup champion for the next 12 months, and it would likely take at least that long to supplant him from atop the world ranking.

“I'm proud of the results,” he said. “It's something I try not to focus too much on, but at the end of the day, being able to win tournaments is a great feeling, and it's what we work towards, and to be able to have as many wins as I have this year is really special.”

The rise of Scottie Scheffler

Scheffler won on courses both historic and modern, short and long, wide and narrow. From the expansive canvas of Augusta National to the cozy confines of Harbour Town. Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer could not stop Scheffler with the thick rough and firm greens that are the trademarks of their tournaments, nor could Pete Dye and his penal creations.

Scheffler held a magic wand for his first win, the mallet putter that he debuted that week, and his baby boy for the eighth and final victory of 2024. Little Bennett Scheffler has only been around since May but already has seen his father hoist four trophies. He still may fit inside the FedExCup.

It was a year that included a birth and an arrest, and he was victorious through a protest and an injury that almost forced him out of THE PLAYERS. But the trophies remained the biggest story. Through it all, he was unapologetically himself, sticking to the same philosophy that got him this far.

He relies on a simplicity that belies his achievements. Golf is supposed to be a complex game, but Scheffler sticks to the same fundamentals that his swing coach, Randy Smith, has been emphasizing since Scottie was a kid.

“Simple sometimes works best,” Smith said. It did this year.

Scottie Scheffler's impressive mentality and game

Warming up before the third round of the TOUR Championship, he was the only player on the practice range without a launch monitor sitting next to him. He uses a practice club with the same instructional grip that is often given to beginners, and he inspects the clubface, ensuring it’s square, before each practice shot. He often looks at his feet on the course, trying to focus on only his next step.

“I’ve always taken golf very seriously,” he once said. “I think that’s why I try to focus so much on the present, just staying present.”

The final week of the FedExCup Playoffs is a challenge to that mindset, though, because its format can almost present a premature coronation. The two-shot advantage that the FedExCup leader holds once he sets foot on the property is a reflection of all he’s accomplished during the season. There’s the temptation for reflection even though the final standings are still four rounds from being determined. There’s also a TOUR player’s inherent pride, which makes losing after being given a lead unacceptable.

“I should win the tournament if I'm starting ahead of people. That's how I feel,” Scheffler said. “So maybe the last couple years I've put too much pressure on myself to perform … but this year I did a good job of just staying in it mentally and keeping my head down.”

Scheffler is intensely competitive, whether at home in Dallas, where he gives 20 strokes to the mid-handicap members at Royal Oaks, or on the PGA TOUR. That’s why winning the FedExCup was so important to him. He didn’t want another season where there was a dichotomy between the vote of his peers for Player of the Year and the final scoreboard.

There is a finality to the TOUR Championship that adds significance. With the pursuit of the FedExCup complete, there is space to ruminate on the result. There is no next tournament or venue to focus on. That’s what made his loss here two years ago so difficult. He described it as “pretty challenging … to handle” and said he was “very sad” after losing a six-shot lead to Rory McIlroy in the final round.

Sadness is not an emotion that is readily confessed to by professional athletes, who hope to convey an intimidating air, but the 2022 TOUR Championship represented a disappointing end to an otherwise impeccable season that rapidly changed the course of Scheffler’s career. He won four times in a six-week span, earning both his first PGA TOUR title and his first major in the process. He rapidly ascended to world No. 1, as well. Losing the TOUR Championship may have been the only thing that didn’t go his way.

“I didn’t expect things to finish that way,” he said.

Scheffler won twice last year, including his first PLAYERS, to return to East Lake as the No. 1 seed. He broke par in just one round at the TOUR Championship, however.

Scheffler was still No. 1 when this year began, but he also was amid a winless drought that stretched to 51 weeks before he won the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard.

That duration was defined by his struggles on the greens. It was a frustrating span because his putting kept him from capitalizing on his peerless ball-striking, and it was a shortcoming that was the source of constant questions. It led to the most scrutiny he’d faced in his reign as the game’s top player.

Scheffler had been experimenting behind the scenes with new putters, however, and had enlisted putting coach Phil Kenyon the previous fall. It was at Bay Hill that Scheffler debuted the mallet putter that he would use in each of his eight wins this year.

“I felt like I was kind of gradually building towards something,” he said.

He committed to relying on the same athleticism that set him apart on long shots instead of obsessing over mechanics. He also ceased seeking perfection on the greens.

He won by five strokes at Bay Hill while finishing fifth in Strokes Gained: Putting (he led the field in that metric in the final round). It was the start of a five-tournament stretch where he won four times, and he was one 6-footer in Houston from potentially sweeping them all.

Scottie Scheffler’s dominance continues to impress fellow peers

A week after his win at Bay Hill, he became the first player to win back-to-back PLAYERS titles despite a neck injury that nearly forced him to withdraw. Then he won a second Masters with an exquisite display of ball control on a blustery week at Augusta National. By winning the following week, he became the first player since Bernhard Langer in 1985 to win at Augusta National and Harbour Town in consecutive weeks.

It was reminiscent of Scheffler’s breakout season in 2022 when he won four times in six starts – except this time, he just kept going. He was away for a month for the birth of his first child, then returned to a chaotic week at the PGA Championship. He still finished in the top 10 at Valhalla, then had two wins (and a runner-up) in his next four starts. Nicklaus’ Memorial Tournament presented by Workday was Scheffler’s first win as a father. At the Travelers Championship, he beat Tom Kim in a playoff after protesters stormed the 72nd green.

The Olympics may not count towards his PGA TOUR win total this season, but it was among his most impressive feats of the year. His Sunday 62 included a 29 on his final nine to make up a large deficit and win the gold medal.

Scheffler leads the TOUR in Strokes Gained: Approach the Green for the second consecutive year, and he is on pace to lead in Greens in Regulation for the third straight season. He is gaining nearly 2.5 strokes per round from tee-to-green, almost a shot per round better than Xander Schauffele, who ranks second in that statistic. And his putting is now a tick above average (+0.03 strokes gained per round), which is all he needs.

It was an incredible season that got the ending it deserved. Scottie Scheffler is finally a FedExCup champion.
