1. S02, E09 – ‘Breaking, badly’

Richard Hammond and James May attempt to set a new British water speed record for amphibious cars. A staggering 85 percent of all people who try to break records on water are killed but this doesn’t put off Clarkson, Hammond and May as they set about building their own road legal machine from an unholy union of car, boat and jet engine and then use it to spear across the choppy waters of a vast lake during something called “Coniston Speed Week”. Rated 9.9/10.

2. S02, E10 – ‘Oh, Canada’

Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May reluctantly agree to test three SUVs in the rugged landscapes of Canada. Clarkson in the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio, Hammond in the Porsche Macan Turbo Performance Pack and May in the Range Rover Velar. The boys will test their cars’ sporting side at a race track and their utilitarian side with some enormous dogs, before ending in an epic race across the snowy mountains. Rated 9.8/10.

3. S02, E02 – ‘The Falls Guys’

Jeremy Clarkson drives the all-new, 647 horsepower Ford GT from New York city to Niagara Falls, a trip that is made more challenging by the car’s uncompromising, racing-car-for-the-road design and by James May who, using only public transportation, is trying to beat Jeremy to the finish line. Rated 9.4/10.

4. S02, E03 – ‘Bah humbug-atti’

Jeremy Clarkson asks if Europe’s glamour set still need their jets and helicopters to fulfil a busy day of breakfasting in St Tropez, skiing in the Alps and dining in Turin or if they’d be better off with a car. And it’s not just any car because he’s testing the new, 1,479 horsepower Bugatti Chiron with an epic cross-Europe dash. Rated 9.4/10.

5. S01, E13 – Past v Future

Clarkson compares his Volkswagen Golf GTI to May’s BMW i3 with a drag race at an airstrip and a road trip from London to Dartmoor to attend a Roger Daltrey and Wilko Johnson concert. Clarkson and Hammond make May hang out with “winchers” who drive their 4x4s deep into mud. Rated 9.4/10.

6. S01, E06 – Happy Finnish Christmas

Hammond welcomes the new right-hand-drive Ford Mustang GT and gives it a tour of London and Stonehenge before Clarkson arrives and proceeds to argue that Mustang has no place in Britain and that the Ford Focus RS is a better option. Meanwhile, May talks about the historic 24 Hours of Le Mans rivalry between Ford and Ferrari, which gave birth to the Ford GT40 and the Ferrari P3. Rated 9.3/10.

7. S02, E07 – ‘It’s a gas, gas, gas’

Richard Hammond and James May work out that the average motorist loses 36 days of their lives filling up with fuel. The pair vow to do something about it using their skill and ingenuity to invent a system for filling up on the move. Rated 9.2/10.

8. S02, E01 – ‘Past, Present, or Future’

Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May compare a V12-powered Lamborghini Aventador S, a hybrid Honda NSX and an all-electric Croatian supercar called the Rimac Concept One in a battle of past, present and future, set against the dramatic and car-unfriendly backdrop of Switzerland. Rated 9.2/10.

9. S02, E06 – ‘Jaaaaaaaags’

Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May set out to prove that old Jaguars are not only stylish and roguish but also strong and reliable with a road trip across Colorado. Along the way, they set laps around a punishing dirt track and test 0-100-0 performance at America’s highest commercial airport before embarking on one of the most perilous challenges they’ve ever attempted.  Rated 8.9/10.

10. S02, E08 – ‘Blasts from the Past’

Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond visit some evocative old motorsport locations in Europe using a pair of re-born 1950s sports cars, painstakingly rebuilt by their manufacturers to the original designs. With Clarkson in the Aston Martin DB4 GT lightweight and Hammond in the Jaguar XKSS, the pair start their adventure on the street circuit in Pau, France before their fun is interrupted by the arrival of James May in a modern Honda Civic Type R which he insists is better in every way. Rated 8.9/10.

11. S01, E12 – [Censored] to [Censored]

The presenters travel to Wank, Germany, where May in a Bentley Bentayga, Clarkson in a Range Rover, and Hammond in a Jaguar F-Pace plan a road trip on the Romantic Road via Kissing, Bavaria, then Petting, Bavaria, to Fucking, Austria. After passing Landsberg Prison and staying overnight in Fucking, Clarkson and Hammond suggest to May that they should skip Wedding (Berlin) and head for the Nürburgring instead. Rated 8.9/10.

12. S01, E03 – Opera, Art and Donuts

The presenters go “Grand Touring” in Italy with May in the Rolls-Royce Dawn, Clarkson in the Aston Martin DB11 and Hammond in the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat. Clarkson and May’s tour starts at the Palio di Siena horse race, before viewing The Birth of Venus painting at Uffizi Gallery in Florence. Clarkson and Hammond race each other the Mugello Circuit. Rated 8.9/10.

13. S02, E05 – ‘Up, down and round the farm’

Jeremy Clarkson decides to make one of those Ken Block-style car skidding videos that are very popular on the internet using an old Subaru and a suitable swathe of English farmland. His endeavours are swiftly dismantled by Richard Hammond and James May who are on hand in the studio tent to reveal some of the embarrassing behind-the-scenes footage. Rated 8.8/10.

14. S01, E05 – Morroccan Roll

To settle an argument over the best sports car, the presenters go to Marrakech, Morocco to compare the Mazda MX-5, the Zenos E10S and the Alfa Romeo 4C Spider. During the road trip Clarkson suddenly pulls over due to a leg cramp while driving the 4C. Later, he challenges Hammond and May to weigh their cars to prove that the 4C is lighter, using an improvised scale and animal carcasses as counterweight. Rated 8.8/10.

15. S01, E07&08 – The Beach (Buggy) Boys

The presenters are set a challenge by their producer, Andy Wilman, who wishes to show that beach buggies are poor vehicles. Their challenge is to drive one thousand miles (1,600 km) along Namibia’s Skeleton Coast in three beach buggies, each built to their personal specifications but all derived from the Volkswagen Beetle. Rated 8.7/10.

16. S01, E01 – The Holy Trinity

In this very first episode of The Grand Tour , Clarkson, Hammond and May testing three hybrid hypercars; the McLaren P1, Porsche 918 and Ferrari LaFerrari at the Algarve International Circuit in Portugal. Rated 8.5/10.

17. S01, E09 – Berks To The Future

The tent is within the courtyard of Ludwigsburg Palace, where Clarkson praises Germany as the “cradle of the automobile.” May reviews the new Honda NSX. Clarkson fuses the body of a 1978 MGB Roadster with the chassis of a Land Rover Discovery to make a “proper” sport utility vehicle, but when the MG body falls off, he replaces it with a 1980s Mercedes-Benz SL. Rated 8.5/10.

18. S01, E02 – Operation Desert Stumble

Producer Andy Wilman sends the presenters to the King Abdullah II Special Operations Training Centre (KASOTC) outside Amman, Jordan for a SAS-style military training exercise. Rated 8.3/10.

19. S01, E10 – Dumb Fight at the O.K. Coral

The presenters then travel to Barbados to solve the problem of dying corals by dumping five car body shells into the ocean, but they lose two cars and a fishing boat on their first attempt before they are forced out of the premises by authorities. They manage to drop two cars into the reef site, and May is assigned to anchor them down while Clarkson and Hammond go jet skiing. Rated 8.0/10.

20. S01, E11 – Italian Lessons

To prove that a second-hand Maserati priced under £8,000 are a better buy than a Ford Focus, the presenters travel to Circuit de Croix-en-Ternois in France for a series of tests with Clarkson’s Biturbo S Coupé, Hammond’s 430 Saloon, and May’s Zagato Spyder. Because May injured his right arm prior to the challenge, he bought an automatic variant. The presenters then embark on a road trip through Northern France. Rated 8.0/10.

21. S01, E04 – Enviro-mental

The presenters travel to South Wales and set out to make the most environmentally friendly car bodies using the platform of a Land Rover Discovery. They take an 11 mile road trip to a dirt track, where they race against three normal cars. The idea of environmentally friendly car bodies is abandoned after Clarkson’s meat car is infested with maggots, Hammond’s garden car catches fire, and May’s mud and hay car falls apart. Rated 7.8/10.

22. S02, E04 – ‘Unscripted’

Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May attempt to show what would happen if  The Grand Tour  made a completely unscripted film with no pre-arranged locations, no set-up stunts, and no planned incidents. All they agree is that the starting point will be in Croatia, where Jeremy arrives in an Audi TT RS, while Richard turns up with a not-at-all-comparable Ariel Nomad. What follows is a demonstration of why some kind of script is generally a good thing. Rated 6.3/10.

23. S02 Mini-Special – ‘Feed the World’

In this mini-special, Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May take it upon themselves to try and end world hunger with an incredible journey across Mozambique. The three notice that people in the coastal regions of this country are well-fed on the bountiful supplies of fish from the ocean, while those in the interior exist on the brink of hunger. Their solution is to find a way to transport that fish inland but, predictably, they cannot agree on the best method to do this. Rated 5.7/10.

Mozambique last !? This was for me the best and funniest of all the episodes!

I thought enviro-mental was one of the highlights in season one,although what James built was stupid and just not funny.They should re-do that episode except this time they all follow Richard Hammond’s concept idea.

Really disappointed with the mini special, was looking forward to it all series, think next time they should do a normal 2hr special cos that 1 was rubbish an just felt rushed :/

Yeah so was I to be honest. I wonder if carting around such a large crew puts a limit on how far they can go or what they’re able to do.

feels like all they do is talking while driving. usually we would’ve see them detour, buying souvenirs, ‘upgrading’ their vehicles, enjoying the view, etcetera etcetera

Plus, the recently deceased Bugatti Veyron takes part in a drag race against the current hypercar speed champion, the Porsche 918 Spyder.

The Grand Tour: Dumb Fight at the O.K. Coral sees the tent travelling to Nashville. Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May introduce their attempt to save the world's coral reefs. In the interests of conservation, the three travel to Barbados and begin an earnest attempt to establish a new reef using only some car bodyshells as a foundation. Their efforts start badly and then get worse, involving inept crane driving, useless boat steering, and an embarrassing moment with a local hotel. Also in this show, Jeremy finally indulges his series-long Alfa Romeo obsession with a test of the new, 500 horsepower Giulia Quadrifoglio.

The Grand Tour episode 12, coming again from the shores of Loch Ness , focused its attention on a three-way comparison between a trio of British SUVs. An excellent film consisting of the new Jaguar F-Pace, the huge Bentley Bentayga and the ever-present Range Rover .

They weave their way between Austria and Germany, enjoying a route through sleazy towns whose names they might struggle with during their BBC reign, but under their own license, they relish in being naughty. Their lustful journey starts at "Wank" which Jeremy pronounces dutifully using the German enunciation, of "Vank" and they head onto the town of "Fucking". You can sense the teenager still living in all of them – trying not to chuckle, like the day in the back of the classroom when they discovered there was a place in France called "Brest".

It's an interesting trio of cars and they are happy partners in a joyous combined test. The film is enjoyable, the company is entertaining, and the final race between them is stunningly shot and invigorating to watch.

Each of the three cars are fascinating cars in their own way and seeing them on the same scale makes them all the more intriguing. It's worth noting that the top spec F-Pace Hammond drives is cheaper than the extras alone on James' Bentayga.

The engine of the mighty Bentayga is a almighty 6.0 W12 complete with twin turbos. Despite weighing well over two tonnes, it builds speed at a remarkable rate. Slice that engine in half and you have the dimensions of the Jaguar, a 3 litre V6 growler with a supercharger. With aluminium weight saving applied to the Jag’s chassis, it's seriously quick and nimble too. Power and speed is one thing, but little prepares you for seeing these beasts fly and achieve air during their wonderful racing laps.

The Bentayga at first seemed like a clumsy accident, but as GQ accurately predicted at the time of its launch, the Bentley seems to have grown into it.

However, the other two wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for the success of the old Range Rover. Let’s not forget, the Range Rover wasn’t designed to attractive a wealthy elite and footballers who wanted chic, understated luxury and prowess on the road – it just happened that those audiences decided to love it anyway. And so all the competitors followed, trying to get a slice of the same audience, now they knew what that audience liked.

This is why the Range Rover is the real winner. It was designed not for a target audience, but for a purpose. To climb any mountain and ford any stream, without sacrificing any comfort or ability on the road. It’s the original. It’s stayed true to its ethos and really can achieve anything off-road, as the Grand Tour trio demonstrated.

The most wonderful time of the golf season reaches its conclusion Sunday as the beauty of April surrounds Augusta National Golf Club. The 2024 Masters started as a star-studded affair with a loaded field featuring the best golfers in the world and Scottie Scheffler entering as the favorite. Scheffler held that same position entering Round 4 and has only increased his advantage as the Masters rolls ot a finish.

Scheffler is looking to become the 10th golfer in Masters history to win two green jackets in a three-year span, and given his level of play over the last two years, no one is doubting he can accomplish his goal. Should he do so, he would pick up a $3.6 million winner's check out of a record  2024 Masters prize money allotment -- a $20 million purse .

While five-time Masters champion Tiger Woods set a new record at Augusta National by making the weekend in his 24th consecutive playing of the tournament, he completely ejected on Saturday with his worst score in a major championship round. Tiger rebounded Sunday while playing his 100th round at Augusta National  but nevertheless signed for a 16 over, his worst score to par at a major and the second-worst round overall across his professional career. (At least he wasn't among the major stars who missed the cut .)

Jim Nantz, in his 39th consecutive year covering the Masters, serves as host for the 37th time. 2008 Masters champion Trevor Immelman joins Nantz as the lead analyst at the Masters for the second time. Nantz and Immelman link up with CBS Sports' incredible golf team, including on-course reporter Dottie Pepper and the legendary Verne Lundquist, who will be calling his final Masters.

Manhunt episode 7 fact-check: 9 biggest true story changes & inaccuracies.

With the thrilling chase for Booth over, Manhunt pivoted to the court case against his conspirators, and departed from the truth in a few places.

After Manhunt episode 6 saw Secretary of War Edwin Stanton 's desperate pursuit of John Wilkes Booth come to an end, the show's focus shifted to the conspirators who supported Booth, both on the night of the assassination and the months leading up to it. Manhunt creator Monica Beletsky blended fact and fiction in the show's depiction of the trial covering Stanton's charges of a grand conspiracy. As was the case for the entire show, the narrative departed from reality in a few places to put emphasis on particular characters and elevate the drama.

More than any other chapter of the story, Manhunt episode 7 focused on the long-term effects of John Wilkes' Booth's assassination of Abraham Lincoln . While the trial at the episode's center resulted in consequences for co-conspirators like David Herold and Dr. Samuel Mudd, the Confederate agents behind the larger conspiracy that Stanton strove to uncover never faced a commensurate punishment for their actions. While the tragedy of the real-world effects highlighted in the show was depicted accurately, some of the details were altered for the sake of the show's narrative.

Manhunt Ending Explained: What Happened To Stanton After The Grand Conspiracy Trial

9 stanton never questioned jefferson davis, there is no evidence stanton ever visited davis' cell..

Perhaps the single most significant departure from reality that Manhunt has is the role that Edwin Stanton played in tracking down John Wilkes Booth. In the show, Stanton's portrayed as a doggedly determined detective who chases down leads and questions witnesses himself, even at the risk of his own health. While he maintains his role as Secretary of War, he takes a much more involved role in the physical pursuit of Booth and his co-conspirators.

In reality, Stanton coordinated the efforts required to hunt down Booth, but he did so largely via telegraph and dispatching agents into the field. As a politician and lawyer, the real Edwin Stanton simply didn't have the boots-on-the-ground role that Manhunt gives him. As a result, many of the scenes involving him questioning the individuals involved in the conspiracy himself are fictional. That includes Mary Surratt, George N. Sanders, and in Manhunt episode 7, the former president of the Confederacy, Jefferson Davis.

8 Conover’s “Pet Letter” Never Existed

Conover's most damning piece of evidence was fictional..

One of the most significant pieces of evidence entered into the trial in Manhunt episode 7 is the so-called "pet letter" from Sanford Conover, Agent Lafayette Baker's spy turned double agent. In the letter, Jefferson Davis refers to his "pet", which Conover testifies is a reference to John Wilkes Booth, who is commonly known as Davis' pet in Confederate circles. In the show, that letter is revealed to be an elaborate forgery by Conover, who is exposed as a double agent, master forger and spy. In reality, the letter never existed, as there is no record of a letter like that ever existing .

7 Conover Was Not Edwin Stanton’s Star Witness

The real edwin stanton did not place nearly as much importance on conover's testimony..

In Manhunt episode 7, Conover was initially set up to be Edwin Stanton's "star witness", who could provide definitive testimony directly connecting John Wilkes Booth to both Jefferson Davis and the "Confederate Clique" in Montreal, led by George N. Sanders. His reliability is called into doubt when he supposedly confuses the dates of an important meeting that he referred to in his testimony. Conover's inconsistent testimony and reputation as a forger is depicted as one of the most important reasons that the grand conspiracy charges resulted in an inconclusive verdict.

Conover's real name was Charles Durham, one of three aliases that he frequently used in his capacity of a spy.

Per UMKC School of Law , the real Sanford Conover testified similarly about the connections between the Confederate Secret Service in Montreal, Jefferson Davis and Booth. However, he was far from a "star witness" in the proceedings. Conover's testimony was widely considered to be perjurious at the time, and has since been attacked by historians as being false. He was far from the key witness that he is depicted as in Manhunt.

6 Mary Simms Didn’t Play Such A Significant Role In The Trial

While she did testify, she was not a driving force behind stanton's conspiracy case..

The real Mary Simms did play a large role in making sure that Dr. Samuel Mudd faced justice for his role as a Confederate sympathizer and his connection to the Confederate Secret Service. While she was important in the conviction of Mudd, Mary Simms' testimony had little to do with the larger grand conspiracy charges . She was one of a number of freedmen and freedwomen who testified against Mudd and the other conspirators over the course of the trial.

Throughout Manhunt , Mary Simms was given a much larger role because she acted as a representation of not only the many brave men and women who testified in the trial, but also as a representation of all former slaves in post-Civil War America . Her experiences in the show are important in providing the perspective of a largely underrepresented portion of the population from contemporary discussions of Reconstruction, particularly in the time period immediately following Lincoln's assassination. Simms was very important to how creator Monica Beletsky examined the sociopolitical climate in Manhunt , but she wasn't actually that important to the trial.

5 Louis Weichmann Didn’t Support Mary Simms’ Testimony

There is no evidence weichman ever even spoke with mary simms..

Perhaps the most touching scene in Manhunt episode 7 comes at the end of Louis Weichmann's testimony, during which he proclaims that he believes Mary Simms' testimony , as it aligns with the conversations that he heard himself in relation to the defendants. That was an important moment in the show's trial, as the defense lawyers had already been attacking Mary's testimony based on her lack of education. Having the support of a white soldier like Louis Weichmann was important in elevating the impact of her testimony, as the words of an uneducated black woman likely fell on many deaf ears in the year 1865.

In reality, neither Weichmann's support of Mary on the witness stand nor their heart-to-heart before his testimony ever happened . Weichmann did play an important role in the trial, as he was able to provide a connection between Booth and the Confederate Secret Service member John Surratt as a boarder at the Surratt boarding house in Surrattsville, which Booth frequented. It simply is unlikely that Stanton's witnesses ever interacted in any meaningful capacity, as is shown in Manhunt .

4 John Surratt Didn’t Brag About His Connection To The Assassination

Surratt did go on tour after returning to the states, but it was to proclaim his innocence..

In the epilogue of Manhunt episode 7, it's revealed that John Surratt eventually returned to the United States, where he was tried in civil court and escaped any punishment. As the show's on-screen text states, Surratt toured around the South bragging about his role in the assassination and his connection to Booth. In reality, John Surratt did make a speech in Maryland where he revealed his connection to a plot with Booth to kidnap Lincoln, which never came to pass. However, the speech was not boastful; Surratt maintained his innocence in the assassination plot , and called Weichmann a perjurer.

3 Stanton Never Suspected Andrew Johnson Was Connected To The Conspiracy

Stanton's cryptic threat to johnson likely never happened..

Andrew Johnson's Reconstruction plan was a twisted, warped version of Lincoln's original vision, and directly resulted in much of the hatred and violence that black Americans endured in the following century. As a racist, Confederate-sympathizing former slave owner, there were many who suspected that Johnson had something to do with Lincoln's assassination , especially as his potential assassin and Booth co-conspirator, George Atzerodt, never actually made an attempt on his life. Agent Lafayette Baker encourages Edwin Stanton to look into Johnson early in the investigation of the grand conspiracy, although Stanton barely entertains the notion.

His potential involvement is brought up again in Manhunt episode 7 when Johnson removes Stanton from the office of Secretary of War. Stanton reminds Johnson that he does have his own suspicions , saying " I could have accused you. " Johnson's defiant response almost implies that perhaps he should have: " But you didn't. " In reality, there is no record that Stanton ever believed that Johnson had anything to do with the assassination, although their enmity as political and idealogical opponents was very real.

2 Thomas Eckert Didn’t Help Stanton Cover Up The Missing Diary Pages

The diary pages have been lost to history..

The content of the missing pages of Booth's diary remains one of the most vexing mysteries in American history. At some point between the removal of the diary from Booth's body to the time the diary found its way into the National Archives, at least 18 pages were removed, although there is some debate as to how many meaningful pages were ripped out. Manhunt creator Monica Beletsky chose to directly address the conspiratorial notion that Edwin Stanton himself removed the pages , and in Manhunt episode 6 he is shown removing the pages and burning them.

Stanton's alleged attempted assassination of Jefferson Davis may have been the primary motivation for Booth killing Lincoln.

His assistant, Thomas Eckert, brings up the missing pages again in episode 7, making sure to note that he cleaned out Stanton's hearth the night before, leaving him with a little nod. The implication is that both Stanton and Eckert were aware of what was in the pages, and both wanted them to disappear. While it's been speculated that the diary revealed that Stanton (and by extension Eckert) was involved in Lincoln's assassination, Beletsky posits that the pages might have revealed Booth's motivations , and that Stanton's alleged attempted assassination of Jefferson Davis was the reason he killed Lincoln.

In reality, there is simply no way to ever know what happened to the missing pages unless they resurface. With no knowledge of who tore the pages out or what the pages revealed, it's impossible for any depiction of their fate to be truly accurate. The scene of Stanton burning the pages and Eckert taking care of the evidence elevates the intrigue of Manhunt , but there's no evidence it unfolded that way.

1 Mary Simms Did Not Attend Howard University

There is no evidence mary simms ever attended college..

The courageous and driven character of Mary Simms is shown attending Howard University, which is now one of the most prestigious predominantly black schools in the country. However, according to The New Yorker , Mary Simms appeared on the 1900 U.S. census, still living in Bryantown (near where Dr. Mudd's house was) as a 60-year-old cook who was still unable to read or write. Simms' character ending once again represents the experience of newly-freed black Americans, but it seems almost certain that the real Mary Simms never attended college .
