Trilby Tour celebrates comeback season at Dundonald final

This year’s Trilby Tour comeback season culminated in a dramatic finale at Dundonald Links in Scotland crowning a successful return for the iconic competition.

In its first season under the ownership of Darwin Escapes , the 2022 edition of the Trilby Tour saw both male and female golfers compete together in the Grand Final at the prestigious Ayrshire venue. Competitors from across the country battled it out in tough conditions on the par-72 course; eventual Champion Golfer Andrew Corssen, from Northshore, needed a stunning three-under-par score of 39 points to top a high-quality field. Wendy Allen earned the highest ladies’ score of the final with a 31-point total.

Corssen, the first Trilby Tour Champion Golfer of the Darwin Escapes era, said: “It hasn’t quite sunk in yet, because we were the first group out. I’ve been patiently waiting and now I’m just overwhelmed.”

The Grand Final saw men and women compete together for the first time in the competition’s 15-year history, with TV cameras on hand to cover the action for broadcast on Sky Sports Golf, hosted by presenter Sarah Stirk, from November 14.

Serving as the climax of an action-packed tour schedule, the final featured amateur golfers from all four qualifying events held over the summer at Darwin Escapes venues – The Springs Resort & Golf Club in Oxfordshire, Dundonald Links in Scotland, Kilnwick Percy Resort & Golf Club in Yorkshire and Carus Green Golf Club in Cumbria.

Ashley Pheasant, Head of Golf for Darwin Escapes, said: “We’ve worked hard to bring this much-loved competition back and make it better than ever, so we’re thrilled with how the Trilby Tour’s first revitalised season has unfolded. The weather was challenging on Monday, but Dundonald Links plays perfectly in any conditions and the quality of golf was excellent too. It’s also great to see male and female golfers competing together in the Trilby Tour for the first time.”

Sarah Stirk, who covered the event for Sky Sports Golf, said: “The whole Trilby Tour has really been elevated in 2022 and it was fantastic to see the culmination of a great year at the final at Dundonald Links.” There was a real sense of camaraderie between all competitors, and it was brilliant to see female golfers competing alongside the men. I’ve been lucky to interview the world’s top golfers over the last few years with Sky, but it was very special to speak to the winner Andrew Corssen about his victory and see him get so emotional. It was a special day in Scotland and I can’t wait to watch the Trilby Tour grow even further in 2023.”

The Trilby Tour will return in 2023, with an extended schedule and dates to be announced in December. In addition to the Trilby Tour trophy and an array of exceptional golfing equipment, Corssen has won the right to return for the 2023 Grand Final and defend his crown without needing to play any qualifying events.

Trilby tour – 2022 dates announced.

The day is finally here… and our plans for the 2022 Trilby Tour are announced!

We said last year that when we re-launch the Trilby Tour, we will make it bigger and better for ALL the golfers that take part.

In 2022, female amateurs will also compete in the Trilby Tour  and we are pleased to announce the tour will be returning to S ky Sports Golf with a new, ‘tour feel’ TV production.

The 2022 Trilby Tour will be played across a series of venues in the Home Counties and the north of England and Scotland, with the best players from each Championship event making it to the Grand Final in September at the recently upgraded Dundonald Links, Darwin Escapes’ flagship course, where a field of 60 will tee it up.

The three-month schedule begins on June 13 with the Trilby Tour Championship of Oxfordshire at The Springs Resort & Golf Club before heading to Carus Green on June 27 for The Trilby Tour Championship of Cumbria. Next up comes the Trilby Tour Championship of Yorkshire at Kilnwick Percy Resort & Golf Club on July 4 and the Trilby Tour Championship of Ayrshire at Dundonald Links on August 15, with the top 15 players from each event – 10 men and five women – returning to Ayrshire to compete in The Grand Final on September 19.

Players will receive an array of attractive benefits as part of the reduced entry fee of £260 including Glenmuir clothing, a practice round, food and prizes on the day and a voucher booklet for special offers at Darwin Escapes’ golf venues, plus the chance to feature on Sky Sports who will be broadcasting all the events in a highlights package.

Sky Sports Golf presenter, Sarah Stirk, said: “I’m thrilled to be part of the all-new Trilby Tour for 2022. The game is in really good shape right now, and it’s great to see the Trilby Tour moving forward since Darwin Escapes purchased it last year.

“Not only is it now fully refreshed, with some great new partners, it also has women playing head-to-head with the men for the coveted title of Trilby Tour Champion. I can’t wait to be part of the show.”

Ashley Pheasant, Head of Golf for Darwin Escapes, said: “We can’t wait to get going with the 2022 Trilby Tour. When we set out on this journey, we wanted to make this the best amateur golf tour in the country.

“With the changes we have made, we are providing additional value for competitors and are thrilled to see all our championships return to Sky Sports. It is fitting that we will have both men and women competing for the first time at Dundonald Links, the home of the Trust Golf Women’s Scottish Open.”

Trilby Tour unveils expanded schedule and new sponsors

10.55am 19th December 2023 - Sponsorship & Events

Karen Beattie & Ashley Pheasant

The UK’s biggest amateur golf competition is about to get even bigger, with the Trilby Tour adding two more qualifiers to the schedule and announcing two leading golf brands as partners ahead of the 2024 season.

Passionate amateurs from across the country will fight to qualify for September’s Grand Final – which will once again return to Ayrshire’s Dundonald Links, host of the 2023 Women’s Scottish Open.

Meanwhile, the Trilby Tour has confirmed two returning sponsors following the success of last year’s competition: golf apparel brand Glenmuir and trolley manufacturer Motocaddy. Entry to the Trilby Tour will also include a Glenmuir shirt, while Motocaddy will provide a range of prizes at all six events.

Qualifying will get underway at Carus Green Golf Club with the return Championship of Cumbria – which was last held in 2022 – on May 2. Later in the season, the inaugural Championship of Greater Manchester at Saddleworth Golf Club will mark the first time the Trilby Tour has held a qualifier in England’s third most populous county.

The additions bring the total number of qualifying events to five – the most since the tour was resurrected in 2022 – with three tour staples remaining on the schedule: the Championship of Yorkshire at Kilnwick Percy, the Championship of Oxfordshire at The Springs Resort & Golf Club and the Championship of Ayrshire at Dundonald Links.

Dundonald Links will also stage the all-important finale of the tour on September 23, a week after the final qualifier at the same venue. Hopefuls will need to be at their best to prevail on Kyle Phillips’ challenging course, which will also host Final Qualifying for the Open Championship until 2026.

Trilby Tour 2024 Schedule May 2 – CHAMPIONSHIP OF CUMBRIA at Carus Green Golf Club June 10 – CHAMPIONSHIP OF YORKSHIRE at Kilnwick Percy July 15 – CHAMPIONSHIP OF OXFORDSHIRE at The Springs Resort & Golf Club August 5 – CHAMPIONSHIP OF GREATER MANCHESTER at Saddleworth Golf Club September 16 – CHAMPIONSHIP OF AYRSHIRE at Dundonald Links September 23 – GRAND FINAL at Dundonald Links

Ashley Pheasant, head of golf at Darwin Escapes, said: “The Trilby Tour is all about being inclusive and getting as many golf lovers involved as possible, so it’s great to expand qualifying this year and visit more parts of the country than we ever have before.

“And as if bragging rights weren’t enough, we’re very pleased to be awarding some wonderful prizes again this year courtesy of our friends at Motocaddy, and to be able to treat our players with some fantastic Glenmuir shirts.

“The calibre of golf we see on the Trilby Tour is improving year on year and what makes it so special is that anyone can shine – so if you love golf and a bit of friendly competition, please don’t hesitate to sign up and have a go.”

Once again, all the action will be available to stream live on YouTube through sports broadcasting brand Live Sport Now, who first covered the Trilby Tour in 2023. Their coverage allows golf fans everywhere, including the friends and family of every competitor, to follow each qualifier and the final for free.

Next year will mark the third season since the Trilby Tour was relaunched by Darwin Escapes , which operates three venues on the year’s calendar. In September, Karen Beattie became the first woman ever to win the Trilby Tour, clinching victory in dramatic fashion with a net eagle on the final hole. As well as earning direct entry into this year’s final, defending champion Beattie can select her own dish for the climactic event’s menu.

Trilby Tour returns under new ownership

Mar 06, 2022

The Trilby Tour is gearing up for its long-awaited return with the announcement of its 2022 calendar as the iconic event prepares to debut its revised look under new owners, Darwin Escapes.

The revamped tour, which was brought by Darwin Escapes from Savile Row tailor William Hunt last year, will feature a number of significant changes – most noticeably the addition of female amateurs who will go head-to-head with their male counterparts for the first time.

The changes have been introduced to give the event a more professional tour feel, with a focus on improved TV production for the tour’s return to Sky Sports and clothing supplied by Glenmuir for competitors.

The 2022 Trilby Tour will be played across a series of venues in the Home Counties and the north of England and Scotland, with the best players from each event qualifying for the Grand Final in September at the recently upgraded Dundonald Links, Darwin Escapes’ flagship course, where a field of 60 will tee it up.

The closest one to me is 95 miles away! What heppened to the West Midlands?? I was going to pick what I thought would be best suited to my game, but Bearwood Lakes is the only date that I can do without any hassle. What's the secret to scoring well / avoiding disasters there?

Will have to be The Oxfordshire for me, would have chosen Bearwood but that would mean 108 holes of golf in 4 days what with other comps I have on over that weekend!!

Paid the balance off today, so I'm in. Bearwood Lakes it is. Playing off the back tees off 9 eh???? I won't be having a side bet on this one

I've also booked in for Bearwood Lakes. The London Club was full already when I looked at 6:30 pm!! One of the guys I recruited for the Help For Heroes day is also playing Bearwood Lakes. He's travelling down from Leeds as he's on holiday for the Yorkshire venue. I've got a massive dilema if I get through to the final as it's being played on August 11th at The Buckinghamshire.....the same day I fly out to Spain for my Summer holiday!!!!!!
