This little hotel is a Gem

This little hotel is a Gem! It's immaculately clean, staffed by the friendliest of people and serves good home-cooked food. Nice pool area with plenty of sun loungers, and a great ambience. Friendship Travel have found the perfect spot for singles wanting to mingle! Can't fault it at all - been 3 times now and will probably go back. Rooms are functional with extremely comfortable beds - I had one of the top floor bedrooms with a private terrace facing the mountains - loved the walk-in shower! It really does deserve 5 stars - for a 3 star hotel it ticks all the boxes for me.

Thanks for your excellent review on the Forever Hotel in Turkey, always a favourite with FT guests.

Forever Friendship

Second visit to Forever Hotel in Turkey. Always a pleasure to stay here. A lovely family welcome and enthusiastic Friendship Travel REP help you with everything you need.

A huge thank you for your kind words from everyone at Friendship Travel.

Awful! Do not use this company. I booked Turkey and Cuba with them. Both holidays were awful- hotels were below standard and star rating, food awful, but the main thing is the customer service. The owner of FT does not believe in great customer service or ensuring you have a good holiday. Cuba was very expensive, advertised as a 5 star hotel, it wasn’t, some of us had to upgrade to an executive suite to get a sub standard room, food and service - which you should not have to do at a 5 star resort. At the Turkish holiday were treated with complete disregard by the staff and made to feel very unwelcome. The excuse FT gave us? It was the last week of the season and the staff were tired! FT refused to return any monies for my Cuba holiday, the emails were extremely unprofessional, uncaring, littered with typos and contained grammatical errors.

Thanks 'no name' for your review. I am very sorry you did not like the 2 holidays you booked with us. We try and be as clear as possible in all brochures and web site holiday details and if a guest has any problems our host deal with these as best they can. generally our reviews ( seen on various other independent reviews sites available on google) are good and excellent. If you wish to contact me directly I can look into your concerns. Colum at Friendship Travel.

My favourite place to relax

I have just returned from my second visit to this hotel this year making it my sixth visit overall. The booking process was easy online and office support was as, always very good. Although the hotel is three star, for a three star hotel the service is excellent and the pool is a decent size for swimming. Pool area spotless and gardens beautful. The hotel is clean, and the location at Ovacik means that it is cooler than down in Olu Deniz. The evening meals in the hotel are very good quality, a guest commented that they were better than the five star hotel he had recently stayed in. Jean the rep looks after everyone and makes sure no one is left out. A house party is an excellent choice for anyone new to singles holidays. The flexibility of regional flights offered by FT is particularly good for those of us who are some distance from London.

Memories Hotel Lindos

I have just returned from a wonderful holiday at Memories Hotel Lindos, a fabulous hotel for adults only on a beach. It was great from start to finish , Emer the FT host made sure everything went smoothly . This hotel is the best I have ever stayed in the staff cannot do enough for their customers.

Return visit to the Forever Hotel

This is my 4th visit to the Forever Hotel in Turkey and had a wonderful time. It's like a second family as again greeted by Oz and Ifah, who are always very welcoming and will cater for any needs required. Jean, as always, is an excellent host. Again excellent food as always. My only comment would be that it would be nice to have tea/coffee facilities in the rooms. I have booked to go back for 2 weeks in September. I love it so much there.

My trip to Kenya Safari and beach was amazing. Loved every minute and everything was great. Traveling in the jeeps was long. But this is Africa and the transport system not like UK. ‘Friendship Travel, staying at H10 Lanzarote Princess Feb 2023' The customer service offered by the Friendship Travel team was Good, but Collin the Host was Excellent always willing to go the extra mile and if he could do anything for you he would without any problem, the hotel food was good and the hotel Staff were Excellent always willing to go the extra mile. The only negative thing about the Hotel was the Freezing cold outside pool; I would have expected it to have been heated in the winter months? Like many others are in the local area that I have stayed at in the past... There was an outside heated very small pool covered with like plastic pvc poly carbonate sheets but it was pack and over crowded with kids jumping on top of you as you were trying swim, so my swimming pool experience was not so good. I have booked another holiday with Friendship Travel for June 2023 so you will see me again about that one Lol Regards Jason London

Great company. Took me 2 yrs to book. Best thing I ever did. 4 yrs later met great friends., so now we book on our own. Still do Lindos in 4 star hotel but for £600 less. Next year their prices are ridiculous. Lindos Memories is the most amazing place. On the beach good rooms. Breakfast is good but evening meal is disgusting. Service has gone to pot and management is none existent. Management would prefer to put up their relatives than give you a room. Therefore you don't get a room, or have to share with randon person.

I contracted Diarrhoea / Gastroenteritis over XMas with FT at Holiday Inn

FT - Holiday Inn South, London Road, Markyates, Bedfordshire. 23rd Dec 2019 I stayed with FT over xmas 2019. there were 37 other people, The Rep was 1st class. But the hotel was rubbish. I contrasted Diarrhoea / Gastroenteritis that lasted 7 weeks, I did not eat for 3 weeks and lost 14lbs. and it kept returning just when I thought It had gone. I have never been so Ill. Its the Hotel at fault - must have been the food. I only had one spoon full of Xmas dinner, and most of the time in my room. . I had to attend my local hospital on the 6th of Jan 2020 for a blood and Urine sample Test. On 12th Jan and the consultant asked what had occurred over XMas as my results showed a great increased in my immune system - and the testes would have to be repeated. A lovely Easter at Aquamare Hotel Cyprus with Friendship Travel

This was my first overseas holiday since Covid-19, so I was a bit apprehensive. I need not have worried, as had a great time from start to finish. Holiday booked quickly & easily with the FT office. They answered a few pre-departure queries I had (including calling the hotel to check info for me), and even phoned me just before departure check to check I was all ready to go). I arrived on a night flight, but taxi was waiting to whisk me the short journey to the hotel, where I was checked in quickly & easily. And the FT host was still waiting to greet me despite lateness of the hour. Hotel: the superior room I had booked was lovely, great view and well worth the small extra price. Hotel staff fantastic and looked after us really well, and delicious food. Enjoyed all the hotel facilities, especially the pool and surrounding gardens, and the spa. Wide range of excursions on offer, all organised via our fantastic FT host Yiannis. Any time we needed some information, recommendations for things to go/places to eat, he was on hand to help. My only complaint: 10 days was not long enough; I didn't want to go home (!) - so I'll just have to make a return trip .......

Excellent friendly and efficient service as usual. The invoice, received within minutes of calling the office to book, includes the airline booking reference which then allows you to book any extras such as selecting a preferred seat. This was my second time at the Forever hotel in Ovacık and again I was not disappointed with what was on offer! The service and friendliness of this family run hotel surpasses many of the larger hotels that I have stayed at. The family could not do enough for me and the other guests. The very high standard of cleanliness of the hotel and grounds would take a lot to beat. The food was extremely good and varied..and always plenty of it. The entrance to Dunchurch "hotel" comprises wrought iron gates and two lodges, followed by "sleeping policemen" of the sort designed to rip your exhaust system off, but first impressions were good. Second impression was "oh, good grief" as I realised that I was to be staying not in the 1833 manor house but the 1950s barrack block in the land that time forgot, complete with brown nylon coated handrails and a lot of faux teak. Yes, I nearly swung the car out again and headed south, but I'm so glad I didn't. I hadn't come on a "singles" holiday expecting to meet the love-of-my-life, I came for good company which I found in spadefuls. Sure, there were a few les miserables, but mostly I found people like me who just couldn't stand the thought of spending Christmas alone. The food wasn't haute cuisine, but it was hot & plentiful and served by cheerful students on their Christmas vac. and if enjoyment is about the "Shared Experience" then thank you Carrie for accompanying me to the Christmas Day Service at Coventry Cathedral, Shirley, Sue & Peter for a memorable day at Warwick Castle and Richard for listening. Forever hotel oludeniz

This was my 3rd trip to the Forever hotel in Turkey with Friendship. As a single traveller I find it comforting to have such a supportive company behind me when I travel. From point of booking to returning home they are there every step of the way. Having been before I was excited to be coming back. The hotel is in a lovely location with beautifully manicured gardens and surrounding scenery and just a short walk from the town centre. It's a family run hotel who recognise returning guests and welcome new with open arms who go above and beyond for you. You can keep a tab running at the bar all week for food and drinks and your safety deposit box/air con can be added to this if required. The pool and pool area is well maintained and welcoming and plenty of space for all. I have always found the food to be delicious, lots of traditional food, which when I go on holiday I like to try. The rooms are clean and comfortable and perfect for what you need. The host, Julie-Ann was new to me this year and did an outstanding job with info of the resort, trips etc and she too went above and beyond to make the holiday perfect. This year I did the boat trip and my obligatory turkish bath but also for the first time tried the jeep safari. This didn't disappoint, well organised and executed, a great day out for a reasonable cost. There are no airs and graces with this hotel, it just feels like home from home which is why I keep returning every year. Thanks again forever family and Julie-Ann for another wonderful holiday. Roll on 2024.

Laura, Many thanks for your 5 star review and kind comments about the holiday in Turkey. Colum & all the team at Friendship Travel.

RAGA hotel in Side Turkey

Firstly was very grateful that FT managed to get me there on a Tui flight as I was booked on a Thomas Cook flight. Everyone who was at the Raga with me agreed that we could not find any faults at all. Everything was just excellent. the food, wines. staff - nothing too much trouble, and even the entertainment was mainly pretty good as well with some excellent bands. Some people were on their 2nd visit there this year... and one back for a third time! I will definitely be back next year.

Many thanks for your 5* review. i will pass on your comments to the hotel and the FT team.

My First Singles Trip.

My First Singles Trip. My first singles holiday was booked by my sister as a surprise. It was to be a Gulet Cruise in Turkey. As i haven't been away on my own ever, i was so anxious but all my fears melted away at the service provided by the ladies at Friendship Travel. All my questions were answered promptly which put my mind at ease but what i did find was the amazing telephone call i got on the Saturday afternoon before i travelled on the Monday. Karen wished me well, told me i need not be anxious as i would be looked after but most of all to enjoy making new friends. Once onboard the boat, i was made to feel like part of a family by Captain Alpar, Mustapha and Irman. Food was 5* from Breakfast through to Dinner in the evening. They were an excellent crew and always on hand to help. I even joined in their fishing competiton one evening and caught my own fish to be cooked the following day. At the Welcome Meeting next day, i met Jean and the Chief Executive, Colum. It was so informative, comfortable and relaxed. I had an amazing holiday and this wouldn't have been possible if it wasn't for everyone at Friendship Travel, from the agents to the crew. Friendships were formed and i will definately be booking with Friendship Travel in future. Thank you so much.

Greece and Turkey Tour

Our trip to Greece and Turkey was an incredible blessing! It was well-planned and facilitated by Friendship Tours. We loved our main guides and the opportunities to see the biblical sites and beautiful islands.

Twice Satisfied!

Both tours I've taken with Friendship Tours have been wonderful! We never felt uncomfortable, always safe, and well tended to. The first one was to Israel (2017) which was a life-changing trip! The second one to Greece and Turkey (2019) followed Paul's Macedonian Journey. Our guide, Patrick Sullivan did such an outstanding job of seeing to every detail of our travels. Thank you!

MaryJane, thank you so much for the wonderful review. We work very closely with Pastor Pat to deliver an awesome experience. Blessings

Outstanding

Outstanding. Prayerfully, we hope to go back for our third and maybe 4th trip. I can’t imagine having any other tour group. Along with the wonderful guides, the historical education we received about the sites where Jesus walked and preached will forever be an unforgettable journey. Highly recommend Friendship Tours.

Leonard, be blessed brother. Thanks.

I Hope to Return

It's hard to imagine how much we saw...that we'd only read about in the bible...just the distance from the "Sea of Galilee" to Jerusalem and what it would have been like to walk that route repeatedly. I hope to return again to visit those places and get an even better understanding and appreciation for the Christian religion, it's Maker, and it's Savior. For those concerned about safety while in Israel, we were never taken to any place that wasn't safe.

Date of experience : February 20, 2020

Yes sir, the Bible truly comes alive when traveling through Israel. One needs a lifetime to go through and understand the word. Be blessed

Thoroughly enjoyed the trip!

Thoroughly enjoyed the trip! All accommodations were great! The (2) most memorable things, aside from the sites, the history, the towns and cities: The tour guide(Yair H.) and the bus driver(Madee). These guys were terrific. Very personable, knowledgeable, and accommodating! They made the trip so much richer. The days were balanced well between sightseeing, reflection, free time and meals. The restaurants were clean, quick and reasonable. The food was great! I cannot think of anything significant that I could recommend to be improved or changed. Thanks for a great adventure!!

Date of experience : February 24, 2020

Jared, thank you very much! I will most certainly pass your compliments on to Yair and Madee. All our staff on the ground, work very hard to deliver the very best experience. Be Blessed!

This is our most memorable vacation, just love friendship Tours!

This is our most memorable vacation. Friendship organized our trip so well that we had nothing else to worry about. All was paid ahead of time so when the time comes all we had to think about was enjoying the sights. Our guide Ron Sinai was very knowledgeable on the subject however remains very professional by respecting our faith. Our driver Abe was just the best, the safest and the calmest.

Ideal Israel

Everything about our tour with Friendship Tours met or exceeded our expectations. Our guide, Deena, was fantastic! The hotels were great, the bus was great and fun. Deena interacted with everyone and knew everyone by name by day 2. Special thanks to Nasser who made everything easy and do-able.

It was an amazing experience

It was an amazing experience. We had a very special guide and two ordained ministers to speak to us of Jesus travels and teachings. Loved the time on the sea of Galilee and then the time in Masada and many more places that were important to the life of Jesus.or the ancient history of Israel. . Israel is the number one destination for Christians to gain insight into the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. Thank you Friendship Tours!

Tour of Israel and Egypt

The tour was well planned, and tour guides did a great job. Hotels were well chosen. I especially enjoyed the extension into Egypt. Mount Sinai and the Pyramids were great. I was happy that extra security was provided in Egypt. I felt safe the whole time. Our "end-of-tour-banquet" in Israel was disappointing...just a regular meal. The optional Nile River cruise should have been chosen for the banquet. I missed it, but know from others that it was great. I would have gladly paid extra for inclusion of the cruise and several lunches in the package price.

Joe, thanks so much

Exploiting American Tourists

Our guide was very knowledgeable about Israel. It was evident that she loved sharing it with Nationals. The only unfortunate aspect of the trip was that we were dragged to way too many tourist traps. It appeared as though the guide was purposely exploiting us to shop and boost the economy of her country. We were trapped in one shop for probably 1 1/2 hours. It was ludicrous! Other than feeling exploited, the tour was interesting and our personal safety was well attended to.

So sorry to hear

It was well organized

It was well organized, yet flexible; we did and saw everything we thought was important. Including the Lord's Supper on Sunday in the garden- wow, Masada, Dead Sea and Sea of Galilee. Our tour guide was knowledge and approachable.

Thanks David. Our tours are tailored to deliver the utmost christian experience and we are so happy that we met your expectations. Blessings

Friendship Tours did not disappoint

Friendship Tours did not disappoint! As a pastor and trip coordinator, I was very hesitant before our trip to Israel with Egypt extension. I did not want to disappoint the 25 people in our group, and was concerned that this company might not be all that I hoped. However, I was pleased with every aspect of the tour. Accomodations were excellent. Food was excellent. Tour guide and drivers were friendly, knowledgeable, professional and flexible to our needs. The whole trip exceeded my hopes tenfold. I cannot think of one part of the tour that was not commendable. I will definitely use Friendship Tours for future trips with our church.

We loved our tour to the Holy Land

We loved our tour to the Holy Land! Our tour guide Yair was extremely knowledgeable and concerned that each of us was happy with what we were getting. We have never met a more courteous and caring bus driver named Madee. His driving was amazing. We saw everything that we expected to see. The accommodations were very nice and the food was fantastic. If we had the opportunity to do this again, we would pick Friendship tours.

My experience in Israel was amazing

My experience in Israel was amazing. Our tour guide Deena was excellent and bus driver Mugdi was awesome, too. We were able to get to the sites with no problems and were treated with so much history and personal care that I left feeling like I had just been with family on my tour.

Karen, Thank you very much for your kind review. Blessings

What the New FTC Crackdown on Fake Reviews May Mean for Travel

Sean O'Neill

Sean O'Neill , Skift

August 14th, 2024 at 4:51 PM EDT

Regulators aim to curb digital chicanery. Their target: fake AI reviews, paid praise, and biased endorsements from influencers. But policing the sprawling review ecosystem may become a headache for many.

Sean O'Neill

The U.S. Federal Trade Commission announced a rule Wednesday aiming to punish businesses for buying or selling fake reviews and endorsements – and there are plenty of implications for the travel industry.

It’s been a long-running problem in travel and an open secret for over a decade that many hoteliers post fake reviews, often by hiring third parties. The aim is either to make competitor properties look worse or improve their own online ratings. Fake reviews can be created and posted by businesses themselves or by hiring services for as little as a few dollars per review. AI tools promise to turbocharge the practice.

However, this new rule enables the FTC to seek civil penalties of up to $51,744 per violation, and the agency will start enforcing the rule within roughly two months.

The rule is targeted at a wide range of services – think restaurants – but the ruling will affect online review sites and travel agencies, hotel and short-term rental lodging providers, social media influencers, and other review generators.

Fake Reviews Create Legal Risk

The agency’s new rule prohibits the creation, purchase, or sale of fake reviews, including those generated by AI or individuals without genuine experience.

Travel agencies, travel booking platforms, travel price-comparison services, and blogs that fail to take reasonable steps to police fake reviews and endorsements could be held accountable.

“For far too long, the FTC hasn’t had the teeth it needed to crack down on individuals and groups authoring fake reviews, and the travel companies like hotels that may have been soliciting those fake reviews,” said Ben Beck, an assistant professor of marketing in the Marriott School of Business at Brigham Young University.

While most companies may embrace the goal of protecting consumers from sleight of hand, some will face a burden in trying to police reviews on their digital sites and apps. Rogue digital marketers constantly test new ways to game the system. And drawing the line between genuine and manufactured sentiment is tricky.

“It is unclear how far-reaching this responsibility (and resulting civil penalties for violation) will be – e.g., a fake review gets posted to a platform and then linked/posted at service providers website, etc.,” said Christopher Anderson, a professor at Cornell’s SC Johnson College of Business via email.

However, the Travel Tech Association, which represents online travel agencies and other intermediaries, said the agency had written the law to properly target bad actors. The penalties don’t single out tech platforms that carry content and make a good faith effort to vet it, the association said.

“Travel Tech welcomes the adoption of the commission’s proposed rules that appropriately target bad actors without significantly burdening honest businesses and provide benefits to consumers and honest competitors.”

Social Media Endorsements, Too

Social media influencers, bloggers, and others who are paid for endorsements may also be at legal risk if they don’t follow ethical practices.

The FTC has banned the practice of providing compensation or other incentives conditioned on posting reviews or endorsements, including via social media videos, with a desired sentiment.

“Fake reviews not only waste people’s time and money but also pollute the marketplace and divert business away from honest competitors,” said FTC chair Lina Khan in a statement.

Tough Problem to Fight

The problem is long-standing. Tripadvisor caught and removed 1.3 million reviews in 2022, mostly before the reviews were ever posted, it said. Google said it removed about 200 million pieces of fake content from its Maps app that year.

Tripadvisor said that it is “pleased to see that Tripadvisor’s approach to content integrity aligns with, and in some cases even goes beyond, the FTC’s new rule to ban fake reviews.”

The U.S. Airports With the Most TSA Complaints [2024 Data Study]

Dealing with airport security can be a breeze or a nightmare, depending on where you’re departing from. Some airports seem to specialize in turning up the stress levels, leading to more passenger complaints, while others offer a more controlled security check experience.

To shed some light on where travelers are having the most issues, we’ve analyzed TSA Contact Center Complaint data from 2015 through 2023. Our study digs into the number and types of complaints filed at U.S. airports, revealing which airports are more prone to passengers unhappy enough to file a complaint.

From problems with expedited screening programs to mishandling of property, our analysis covers it all. Whether you’re curious about how your local airport fares or are planning your next trip, this data can help you navigate the often turbulent world of airport security. So, buckle up and read on to find out which airports top the list for the most — and least — complaints.

Navigating airport security is what many would call a high-stress situation. Hundreds of people funneling through checkpoints in a rush to get where they need to go will inevitably cause a few issues that often lead to formal complaints.

We analyzed TSA complaint data from 2015 to 2023, normalizing the data by passenger volume to allow for more accurate comparisons across airports of varying sizes. The average across airports in our study was 3.92 complaints per 100K passengers.

Let’s take a look at where the complaints are levied most and least often across the U.S.

Airports With the Most Complaints (2015 to 2023)

With 1 more complaint per 100K passengers than the airport with the second-most, Newark Liberty International Airport is the airport with the most complaints in the U.S. by a pretty wide margin. It fields nearly twice as many complaints as the average airport, with many of them being about TSA PreCheck (44.8% of all complaints), customer service (14.6%), and mishandled baggage (14%).

  • 6.83 complaints per 100,000 passengers
  • 5.78 complaints per 100,000 passengers
  • 5.6 complaints per 100,000 passengers
  • 5.5 complaints per 100,000 passengers
  • 5.38 complaints per 100,000 passengers

If we zoom in on the timeline a bit closer, we’ll see that some of these airports stood out for having the most complaints in 2023 , as well. Newark Liberty International Airport once again topped the list with 12.84 complaints per 100K passengers, followed by Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (10.35), Palm Beach International Airport (8.98), and Southwest Florida International Airport (8.92). One airport that breaks into the top 5 in 2023, Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) , rounds out the airports with the most complaints last year with 8.91 complaints per 100K passengers.

Airports With the Fewest Complaints (2015 to 2023)

Charlotte Douglas International Airport has the fewest TSA complaints of any airport we studied , experiencing less than 2 complaints per 100K passengers over the past 8 years. It only fields about half the complaints of the average U.S. airport.

  • 1.97 complaints per 100,000 passengers
  • 2.63 complaints per 100,000 passengers
  • 2.74 complaints per 100,000 passengers
  • 2.75 complaints per 100,000 passengers
  • 2.8 complaints per 100,000 passengers

Similar to the airports with the most complaints, several of these airports also stood out as having the fewest complaints in 2023 , consistent with their performance over time. Charlotte Douglas International Airport experienced the fewest complaints, with 3.47 per 100K passengers. Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (4.22), Dallas Love Field (DAL) (4.3), and Chicago Midway International Airport (4.52) all followed. Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) experienced the fifth fewest complaints in the airports we studied, with 4.8 complaints per 100K passengers.

Airports with more TSA complaints could mean longer delays. Knowing an airport’s screening process can help you more effectively plan your trips so you aren’t in a huge rush when you arrive.

Now that we’ve examined the airports that field the most TSA complaints, we’ll look at how seasonality can impact their volume and highlight when passengers are most likely to file complaints.

We normalized the data to show TSA complaints per day across all airports in our study to ensure a more fair comparison across months. Let’s learn more about these complaint trends.

Months With the Most TSA Complaints:

  • December : 1,457 complaints per day
  • October : 1,450 complaints per day
  • November : 1,398 complaints per day

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the highest complaint rates occur in December, October, and November, likely driven by increased travel during the holiday season. These months stand out as some of the most challenging for travelers, reflecting heightened stress levels and potential disruptions.

Another notable trend is the general increase in complaints as the year progresses, peaking during the final quarter of the year. In contrast, January and February see the fewest complaints across all airports in the study, suggesting a calmer travel period at the start of the year.

All this is to say that higher passenger volumes can make an already stressful situation even more tense, almost certainly leading to a worse experience and more complaints being filed.

TSA complaints can vary widely in subject matter, from issues with expedited screening programs (TSA PreCheck) to the mishandling of baggage. To provide a clearer picture of what these complaints look like, we analyzed the data to find the most common complaint passengers file. Here’s a breakdown of the top categories and the airports with the highest percentage of each.

Top Complaint Categories:

  • 37.98% of all complaints
  • Airport With the Highest Percentage: San Francisco International Airport (SFO) : 59.7%
  • 19.45% of all complaints
  • Airport With the Highest Percentage: Miami International Airport (MIA) : 31.36%
  • 13.06% of all complaints
  • Airport With the Highest Percentage: Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW): 20.42%
  • 9.36% of all complaints
  • Airport With the Highest Percentage: Norman Y. Mineta San José International Airport (SJC) : 16.40%
  • 7.52% of all complaints
  • Airport With the Highest Percentage: Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood International Airport (FLL) : 11.37%

While TSA PreCheck is by far the category that sees the most complaints across airports, other issues like baggage handling and customer service also arise regularly. With some airports being (even slightly) more prone to certain types of complaints, travelers should be aware of the potential issues they’ll face on their trips so they can try to prevent specific problems before they arise.

To determine the airports with the most and least complaints, we analyzed TSA complaint data by category at 44 large U.S. airports from 2015 to 2023. We positioned the total number of complaints at each airport against its annual passengers to allow for more accurate comparisons across airports.

In addition to finding total complaints, we also found the most common complaints overall, which airport has the highest percentage of common complaints, and which airports have seen the most complaints recently (2023).

We also totaled the number of complaints reported each month from 2015 to 2023 to see how seasonal shifts affect complaints.

All data for this study came from the TSA FOIA Electronic Reading Room .

From issues with TSA PreCheck to mishandled baggage, the data shows that travelers’ experiences with TSA can vary widely depending on the airport. Whether you’re flying out of complaint-prone Newark Liberty or the more subdued Charlotte Douglas, be aware that problems may arise as you make your way through security.

Being informed about potential pain points can make a big difference in planning a smoother trip. Understanding these trends can help you better prepare for your trips and make informed choices about where and when to travel.

Peoples’ Friendship University in Moscow turns 60

friendship travel complaints

Students of RUDN

In late August 1968, 17-year-old Vladimir Filippov, soon to become a first-year student at the Peoples’ Friendship University (RUDN), arrived in Moscow on a late-night train from Uryupinsk, a small town in the Volgograd Region.

He reached the university dormitory close to midnight and spent his first night in the capital treating two fellow students, one from Madagascar and the other from Cameroon, to homemade jam he had brought with him. His new friends did not speak a word of Russian. Furthermore, they were believers.

“It turned out that the lady who was in charge of laundry and bed linen had already gone home. As we were turning in, they saw that I did not have any bed linen. They then moved all the three beds together, put their two bed sheets on them and put me in the middle. That was how I spent my first night with foreign students. That was it, that was how peoples’ friendship started,” recalls Vladimir Filippov, the rector of the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia (RUDN) and a former education and science minister of Russia.

Vladimir Filippov

Vladimir Filippov

Despite the official doctrine of atheism in the USSR, the university treated foreign students’ religious beliefs with understanding. “In the morning, I saw Jean-Paul, a Catholic, praying in one corner, and Abdul, a Muslim, praying in another, while I, a member of the Young Communist League, did not know where to look and what to do,” Filippov recalls.

He explains that then RUDN had already put into practice its principle of bringing together students from different countries who speak different languages and belong to different cultures.

In the 1960s-70s, the USSR sought to spread its influence to the countries of Asia, Africa and Latin America, by providing training and education to young people from there and supporting their fight for independence. Through the export of education, Moscow hoped to spread the Russian language and culture abroad. At the same time, Soviet leaders expected to promote Communist values too.

It was with this aim in mind that the Peoples’ Friendship University was set up on Feb. 5, 1960. Until the early 1990s, it bore the name of the first prime minister of Congo, Patrice Lumumba. Its staff included the most renowned professors and academics, both in sciences and humanities.

Upon leaving the university, RUDN graduates went back to different parts of the world. Many of them rose to very prominent positions in their home countries. These includeAbbas Yusuf Saleh, the prime minister of Chad until 2010; Abdramane Sylla, a minister in Mali; Achieng Ongong'a, the managing director of the Kenya Tourism Board, and many others. According to Filippov, his friend and roommate, Jean-Paul from Cameroon, later became a justice minister.

When in the late 1980s Russia was swept by the winds of change of Gorbachev’s perestroika, RUDN was one of the first educational establishments in the USSR to switch to the Western model of higher education, offering a bachelor’s and a master’s degree. Soviet university degrees abroad were considered to be equivalent to a bachelor’s degree, though the relevant course of studies in the USSR lasted from five to six years.

As Filippov explains, at the time, these were completely new notions for the Soviet education system. “Then the chancellor of RUDN went to see the USSR minister of higher education, Yagodin, and complained to him that our degree is not recognized as equivalent to a master’s degree abroad,” says Filippov. “Yagodin said: ‘Alright,’ and issued a decree to set up a master’s program by way of an experiment.”

Some 15 years later, Filippov himself became the education minister of new Russia and signed the Bologna declaration, after which the terms ‘bachelor’ and ‘master’ became common practice in Russian universities too.

After the breakup of the Soviet Union in 1991, Filippov goes on, the university fell on hard times. RUDN lost a considerable portion of its funding and tens of thousands of students every year. However, by the late 2000s, it had managed to regain its former glory. There are now 28,000 students from more than 150 countries studying at RUDN, even more than in Soviet times.

“In 1993, when I became rector, we had just 5,700 students from 109 countries. There are now 28,000 students and the number of students graduating in a single year is now the same as was the total number of students 20 years ago,” says Filippov.

Most importantly, despite all the changes, RUDN has managed to preserve an atmosphere of friendship between people from different countries and cultures. The rector has his own theory as to how to avoid ethnic tensions: “It is necessary to create an opportunity for closer contacts at everyday level, both in the dormitory and in the classroom. Everything will follow from there. Love will follow, kids will follow.”

Which US airports had the most TSA complaints? Here are the rankings from travelers

When it comes to airport security, travelers say the experience is more stressful at some airports than others.

Passengers traveling through New Jersey’s Newark Liberty International Airport were the least satisfied with the Transportation Security Administration checkpoints there, filing the most complaints compared to other U.S. airports, according to a study by Upgraded Points.

The report, published Aug. 12, ranked airports the most prone to passenger complaints based on TSA Contact Center Complaint data from 2015 to 2023, the Texas-based travel company said.

The data is based on grievances per 100,000 passengers at the nation’s 44 largest hubs for air travel. Complaints were then normalized by passenger volume to ensure “accurate comparisons across airports of varying sizes,” the company said.

“Security checks are an unavoidable part of air travel, but the experience can vary greatly depending on the airport ,” Keri Stooksbury, editor-in-chief at Upgraded Points, said in a news release. “And since navigating security can be such a high-stress experience, we identified where passengers are most and least satisfied with TSA.”

Florida was home to three of the top four airports where travelers were angry enough to file a grievance, according to the study:

  • Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) – 6.83 complaints per 100,000 passengers
  • Palm Beach International Airport (PBI) – 5.78 complaints per 100,000 passengers
  • Orlando International Airport (MCO) – 5.6 complaints per 100,000 passengers
  • Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) – 5.5 complaints per 100,000 passengers
  • Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE) – 5.38 complaints per 100,000 passengers

Moreover, Tampa International Airport (TPA) ranked eighth with 4.68 complaints per 100,000 passengers, giving Florida four of the top eight airports with the most complaints.

The national average among the nation’s 44 largest airports was 3.92 complaints per 100,000 passengers.

Top TSA complaints among travelers

The most common complaints among travelers were issues with expedited passenger screening programs (think TSA PreCheck), mishandling of passenger property and poor customer service, according to the Upgraded Points study.

More than half (59.7%) of the TSA complaints at San Francisco International Airport were about expedited passenger screening, data shows.

The least common grievances overall were lost and found and civil rights violations, the report said.

Upgraded Points also found that passenger complaints peaked around holiday season during the last few months of the year and fell during January and February.

This was true across all airports in the study, “suggesting a calmer travel period at the start of the year,” the report said.

JD Vance, an Unlikely Friendship and Why It Ended

His political views differed from a transgender classmate’s, but they forged a bond that lasted a decade — until Mr. Vance seemed to pivot, politically and personally.

JD Vance speaking behind a Trump-Vance sign.

By Stephanie Saul

Stephanie Saul, who covers education, reviewed about 90 emails and text messages spanning between 2014 and 2017.

When his book, “Hillbilly Elegy,” was published in 2016, JD Vance sent an email apologizing to a close friend from his Yale Law School days. The friend identified as transgender, but Mr. Vance referred to them in the book as a lesbian.

Listen to this article with reporter commentary

“Hey Sofes, here’s an excerpt from my book,” Mr. Vance wrote to his friend, Sofia Nelson. “I send this to you not just to brag, but because I’m sure if you read it you’ll notice reference to ‘an extremely progressive lesbian.’”

“I recognize now that this may not accurately reflect how you think of yourself, and for that I am really sorry,” he wrote. “I hope you’re not offended, but if you are, I’m sorry! Love you, JD.”

Nelson wrote back the same day, calling Mr. Vance “buddy” and thanking him for “being sweet,” adding, “If you had written gender queer radical pragmatist, nobody would know what you mean.” Nelson asked for an autographed copy, then signed off with, “Love, Sofia.”

That exchange is from a series of emails between two friends, part of a close-knit group of 16 students who remained together throughout their first law school semester in the fall of 2010. As now-Senator Vance seeks the vice presidency, Nelson has shared about 90 of their emails and text messages, primarily from 2014 through 2017, with The New York Times.

The emails, in which Mr. Vance criticizes former President Donald J. Trump both for “racism” and as a “morally reprehensible human being,” add to an already-existing body of evidence showing Mr. Vance’s ideological pivot from Never Trumper to Mr. Trump’s running mate.

And they reflect a young man quite different from the hard-right culture warrior of today who back then brought homemade baked goods to his friend after Nelson underwent transition-related surgery. The visit cemented their bond.

“The content of the conversation was,” Nelson said in an interview with The New York Times, “‘I don’t understand what you’re doing, but I support you.’ And that meant a lot to me at the time, because I think that was the foundation of our friendship.”

The political views of the two were sharply divergent, but their friendship would continue for a decade, strengthened by their shared Midwestern roots — Nelson grew up in Western Michigan and Mr. Vance in Ohio — and cynical views of Ivy League elitism.

Nelson, a Tufts University graduate, had received a prestigious Truman scholarship for law school, indicating a desire to work in public service.

At times, they exchanged messages infrequently. At other times, they would have energetic back-and-forths several times a week. And their talks reflected the history playing out around them — protests against police violence in Ferguson, Mo., the massacre of Black churchgoers in Charleston, S.C., and the 2016 campaign between Mr. Trump and Hillary Clinton. Their conversations were notable not only for Mr. Vance’s harsh comments about Mr. Trump, but also for the tenderness and thoughtful tone in the messages.

They provide what may be a textbook example of respectful discourse, revealing a cultural willingness by Mr. Vance to accept Nelson’s gender identity, which sharply differs from the anti-L.G.B.T.Q. sentiments evident at the Republican National Convention.

Nelson, now a public defender in Detroit, said they visited each other’s homes, talked on Zoom during the pandemic and exchanged long emails discussing a range of subjects, from the minutiae of daily life to weighty discussions of current events and public policy issues. Nelson attended Mr. Vance’s wedding in Kentucky in 2014. They pondered doing a podcast together — he suggested they call it “The Lunatic Fringe.”

But Nelson and Mr. Vance had a falling out in 2021, when Mr. Vance said publicly he supported an Arkansas ban on gender-affirming care for minors, leading to a bitter exchange that deeply hurt Nelson.

“He achieved great success and became very rich by being a Never Trumper who explained the white working class to the liberal elite,” Nelson said, referring to Mr. Vance’s successful 2016 book. “Now he’s amassing even more power by expressing the exact opposite.”

Now, Nelson, who opposes the Trump/Vance ticket, hopes the emails inform the opinion of voters about Mr. Vance.

Responding to a request for comment on the emails, Luke Schroeder, a spokesman for the Vance campaign, issued a statement:

“It’s unfortunate this individual chose to leak decade-old private conversations between friends to The New York Times. Senator Vance values his friendships with individuals across the political spectrum. He has been open about the fact that some of his views from a decade ago began to change after becoming a dad and starting a family, and he has thoroughly explained why he changed his mind on President Trump. Despite their disagreements, Senator Vance cares for Sofia and wishes Sofia the very best.”

Charting His Own Path

In 2014, they were both near the beginning of their careers, about a year out of law school.

Mr. Vance shared that he was planning to buy a house in Washington, D.C., with his wife, Usha, whom he also met at Yale.

The Vances could afford a house in Washington’s highly priced market partly because Mr. Vance was starting a job in Big Law. “Blech,” he wrote then, indicating his distaste for a career he had already decided against. He would remain with the white-shoe firm Sidley Austin for less than two years.

In the same exchange, Mr. Vance also wrote about his wife’s interviews with justices of the Supreme Court, where she was seeking a clerkship. Mr. Vance worried that her seeming politically neutral, or lack of “ideological chops,” could harm her chances.

“Scalia and Kagan moved very quickly,” Mr. Vance wrote, referring to Antonin Scalia, the conservative justice who died in 2016, and Elena Kagan, one of the court’s current three liberal justices, “but she was just not going to work out for Scalia.”

Nelson wrote back, “His homophobic screeds are hard to believe in 2014.”

“He’s become a very shrill old man,” Mr. Vance responded. “I used to really like him, and I used to believe all of his stuff about judicial minimalism was sincere. Now I see it as a political charade.”

Mrs. Vance would end up clerking for Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr.

On Cops, Body Cams and Pride Day

Like their conversations, Mr. Vance could be surprising.

In October 2014, in the wake of the killing of Michael Brown, an 18-year-old Black man, by a white police officer in Ferguson, Nelson raised the idea of requiring that police officers wear body cameras.

“I hate the police,” Mr. Vance said in his response. “Given the number of negative experiences I’ve had in the past few years, I can’t imagine what a Black guy goes through.”

Around the same time, the written conversation turned to a much-discussed essay by Ta-Nehisi Coates in The Atlantic making the case for reparations. Mr. Vance offered that whatever problems he had with reparations, generally, “I have at least been convinced of the virtue of compensating modern victims who’ve suffered redlining or denial of federal benefits.”

By next summer, after a shooting at the Emanuel A.M.E. Church in Charleston, the two were again discussing race. Mr. Vance said he didn’t understand why people “can’t see the connection between this person murdering innocent people and the fact that the Confederate flag — by democratic will — still flies” at the South Carolina Statehouse. “I’m not sure how to wrap my head around it.” (The flag was removed from the Statehouse in Columbia a month later.)

“I think you’re my only liberal friend with whom I talk openly about politics on a deeper sense,” Mr. Vance wrote.

In June 2015, Mr. Vance also revealed to Nelson that Jeb Bush’s presidential campaign had offered him a job as senior domestic policy adviser, then reneged, after discovering a negative piece he had written about George W. Bush’s economic policies. (The New York Times reached out to several former advisers to Jeb Bush’s campaign, who could not confirm that there was a job offer.)

Mr. Vance wrote to Nelson that he was looking forward to getting together for a longer conversation with “some bourbon and puppy dogs by my side.”

In 2015, Mr. Vance moved to California for a new career in the tech industry, one he launched, he suggested, after the Bush episode.

“It’s possible to view this entire extended foray into the California tech scene as a wound-licking exercise after my brief encounter with American politics,” he wrote.

Living in the Bay Area at the time, on June 28 that year, he wished Nelson “Happy Pride,” adding, “I’m thinking of braving the crowds in S.F. just to people watch.”

After attending the Pride Day parade, he wrote, “It felt more like a frat party than I expected. But still nice to see a lot of happy people.”

Opposing Trump

By 2015, Mr. Trump’s rise had begun. Mr. Vance’s Yale friends, including Nelson, were not surprised that Mr. Vance, whom they regarded as a moderate Republican, was opposed to Mr. Trump’s candidacy.

Mr. Vance was rooting against Mr. Trump but also said he could not bring himself to vote for Mrs. Clinton. He vowed to cast his ballot for a third-party candidate.

In December 2015, in emails analyzing the campaign, he wrote that Mr. Trump’s appeal was misunderstood.

“If you look at the polling, the issue where Trump gets the most support is on the economy,” Mr. Vance wrote. “If the response of the media, and the elites of both right and left, are to just say ‘look at those dumb racists supporting Trump,’ then they’re never going to learn the most important lesson of Trump’s candidacy.”

And he said that he himself saw something in Mr. Trump.

Mr. Vance wrote that he found it exhilarating that the media and Wall Street seemed powerless against Mr. Trump, also suggesting that he partly understood the Trump appeal.

“If he would just tone down the racism, I would literally be his biggest supporter,” he wrote.

The next day, on Dec. 9, 2015, the two would again talk race, Mr. Trump and Muslims.

Nelson wrote that a Muslim friend had said that women wearing hijabs no longer felt safe doing simple things like going to the grocery store.

Mr. Vance responded, referring to Mr. Trump as a demagogue.

“I’m obviously outraged at Trump’s rhetoric, and I worry most of all about how welcome Muslim citizens feel in their own country,” he wrote. “And there have always been demagogues willing to exploit the people who believe crazy shit. What seems different to me is that the Republican Party offers nothing that’s as attractive as the demagogue.”

By 2016, he was touring the country promoting “Hillbilly Elegy,” part memoir and part commentary on the alienation of the white working class, many of whom supported Mr. Trump’s election. “To Sofia, a good friend, a fellow Midwesterner, and, despite being a godless liberal, a great person,” he would inscribe in Nelson’s copy.

In September 2016, he shared a piece on implicit bias that he wrote for The New York Times following Mrs. Clinton’s ill-fated “basket of deplorables” comment, thanking Nelson in the email for helping inform his thinking in developing the essay.

“The more white people feel like voting for Trump, the more Black people will suffer. I really believe that,” he wrote.

Not only had Mr. Vance been critical of Mr. Trump for racism, but he also said, “I’ve been very critical of other Repubs for the L.G.B.T.Q. issue, especially Rick Perry,” referring to the former Texas governor.

In another email a month later, he called Mr. Trump a “disaster,” using a vulgarity, and added, “He’s just a bad man.”

And then, to the amazement of many Americans, Mr. Trump won.

Nelson sent Mr. Vance a copy of an article in The Onion , a satirical news site, that suggested liberals were clueless about the country they lived in.

“This is funny. Thank you!” Mr. Vance wrote back.

“My zany prediction: in 20 years H.R.C. and Paul Ryan will be part of the same party,” he continued, using an abbreviation for Mrs. Clinton. “And you and I will be on the other side.”

In January 2017, he expressed more sober concern.

“I’m deeply pessimistic right now,” he wrote. “I’ve been thinking a lot about the civil rights movement and legislation in the 1960s, and I wonder if our society is healthy enough to accomplish anything of that scale (or even close to it).”

A Political Career Beckons, and a Friendship Unravels

By 2017, Mr. Vance was planning a move back to Ohio. According to Nelson, Mitch McConnell, the Senate Republican leader, had reached out and encouraged him to run as a Republican for Senator Sherrod Brown’s seat.

He kicked the tires of a race as an anti-Trump candidate against a formidable Democratic incumbent and took a pass.

It would be four years later that he would run, this time seeking Mr. Trump’s support, and win the open Ohio seat that would put him in position to be Mr. Trump’s running mate.

Nelson communicated with the Vances over Zoom early in the pandemic, after their move back to Ohio. Their email correspondence had died down, and Nelson had noted a shift in the tone of Mr. Vance’s social media postings. In April 2021, one particularly stood out.

On Twitter, Mr. Vance had come out in support of an Arkansas measure banning gender-transitioning care for minors. The bill was ultimately adopted over a veto by Gov. Asa Hutchinson, who had declared it an overreach, before it was overturned by a court ruling.

“Do you support the AR legislation criminalizing providing medical care to trans kids?” Nelson texted him in April 2021.

“I do. I recognize this is awkward but I’ll always be honest with you,” Mr. Vance responded. “I think the trans thing with kids is so unstudied that it amounts to a form of experimentation.”

Nelson wrote back that his position “deeply saddens me.”

“I know I can’t change your mind but the political voice you have become seems so far from the man I got to know in law school,” wrote Nelson, later explaining their position “as a trans person who accessed needed health care so I could live a full life.”

“I have a 1:30,” Mr. Vance wrote. “I will always love you, but I really do think the left’s cultural progressivism is making it harder for normal people to live their lives.”

It had been a friendship of the special type forged in young adulthood, before the accumulation of life responsibilities and fateful decisions already made. Now, it was over.

Never again

Never again! Advertised as a ‘house party’ but bore little resemblance. Half the party already knew each other so there was an exclusive clique from day 1. Food of very poor quality and very meagre. £100+ for air con. Very amateur ish tour rep who complained nonstop about management. So relieved to get home! So many other great companies offering solo travel - do not book with them unless you enjoy the company of a band of chavs.

Amazing :) Above and beyond

Amazing :) Karen at friendship travel couldn't have been more helpful. We received emails with information on everything we could possibly need. She was very patient with me when i struggled to check in on the Ryanair app & went above any beyond to sort out alternative flights when Ryanair decided to cancel our original ones. Casa Rosa, where we stayed was perfect. The staff were so friendly and attentive, we didn't want for anything. Our painting tutor was far more than just a painting instructor, she told us so much about the area and helped us in every aspect of our holiday from booking restaurants to arranging a private boat tour, so we could truly relax.

Benalmadena, Spain

Easy and friendly booking service, flight arrived early and met by Friendship rep at airport, then taxi to Hotel. The representative was very helpful and organized trips out and entertainment. Only downside was the Hotel. poor quality food, and often lukewarm. Bathroom not cleaned thoroughly with mould showing between bath and shower screen.

Relaxing and enjoyable week in the winter sun…

Relaxing and enjoyable week in the sun and light of the Costa del Sol in February is much needed after a long dark UK winter with its constant winds and frequent storms and rain. The hotel was OK and close to the sea, and bus routes. However the hotel food was disappointing and was usually warmish rather than hot. Jayne the host was helpful, positive and attentive. Except for the problem of the food it was a good value break.

Asked for ski holiday quote excluding flights as I was coming from Australia; I emailed I'd meet the group in Geneva, which the website specified as the destination ex-Gatwick for Tignes. Was provided this; tried to book and was then informed (after I've booked my flights) that they fly into Grenoble. No explanation. I ask for coverage of extra transfer - hear nothing for 3-days, then the holiday price has gone up by more than 50%, from GBS985 to GBS1445 - bunch of con artists.

Thanks for your review. I am sorry you had a bad experience with us. Due to the time difference between the UK and Australia we had time lapses in communicating with you , when you were arranging your own flights from Australia to Europe for this ski trip. When we spoke to your after the initial booking and looked to change to a different resort, the room we had were all sold and to buy in another room the hotel charged a higher price. I am sorry this happened. We would advise guests from outside the UK to never book international flights to the UK, until we have everything confirmed in writing from a hotel.

Forever hotel

Lovely little family run hotel close to hisaronu. Family look after you and rep is always around to answer any questions. Plenty to do by way of excursions in the area, did the jeep safari which was an experience you won't forget. Take a coat, you will get wet, arm yourself with a water pistol to take your revenge on the other jeeps in the convoy. Boat trip is a not too be missed trip either, nothing beats having a lazy day sailing around the coast in your own private boat, stopping to swim in warm bays. Highlight was the lunch which was plentiful with different choices of food on offer. Drinks you have to pay for but are reasonably priced.

Friendship Travel & Emma Wilson

I spent Xmas & New Year at St Lucia-my first FT holiday, & had an amazing time. I recently had 2 weeks in Cape Verde, again booked with FT & had fun again. The service & help when booking, from FT staff, was excellent, as was both holidays. Indeed, so good, I've again booked with FT, to spend next Xmas & NY at St Lucia. On the holiday to Cape Verde, Boa Vista, our FT Rep was Emma Wilson. In years of holidays, the Reps have been excellent, good, average...'why were they there?'....etc etc. Emma stood out as by far the best Rep I've ever met. Unquestionably, she's most enthusiastic about her job, highly motivated & keen to ensure everyone was having fun! We saw her daily, numerous times, always checking we were OK. We had the special FT table for taking meals, & she ate with us. I'm sum, well done to FT, & also to Emma Wilson! Thank you! X😎

What makes a great holiday is the…

What makes a great holiday is the company you keep. When I book these type of holidays I always ask age profile and gender mix as I would prefer company of people similar to myself. Friendship refuse to reveal age profiles of other travellers on the trip. Had an awful holiday last year with OAP's who through no fault of their own have a different agenda. Get real guys as I cannot be alone with this bad experience. You have lost my custom including 3 holidays this year from me. To reply to Calum, I am not asking for exact ages or names - indicative profiling of those already booked only, which is not breaking any laws.

Hi JDK, I am sorry but Friendship Travel do not keep the ages of guests who travel with us, so we have no way of telling you the ages of people booked. In our 22 years of business we have never been able to give clients the ages of guests booked on a departure. I am not sure other competitors are able to give the exact ages of all clients booked either with GDPR regulations. Regards Colum - FT MD.

Winter holiday in Fuerteventura

I had a great holiday at Hotel Dunas in Fuerteventura in February. It was good to have some winter sunshine! The host, Colin, was excellent and arranged trips and outings for us. He was also on hand to help if anyone needed it and really made the group gel. The hotel was quiet and peaceful as it was 'Adults only' and not far from the beach. We were not far from the nightlife with a variety of bars and restaurants and 'Music Square'

Forever Hotel

Just returned from my second stay at the Forever Hotel. As on my previous stay the owners and their family members could not do enough for you and the rooms, pool, gardens and food/drink are more than you would expect for a 3* hotel. Jean, the host, is invaluable with regard to her experience, support and professionalism. Looking forward to my return next year.

Hotel Apollon Zante Friendship Travel

I had a similar experience to Deborah Weadock's review at the Hotel Apollon in Zante almost a year later. The hotel is marketed as House Party Hotel and I booked it as I thought it would be a good choice for my first holiday abroad as a single female traveller. However I was verbally abused by large drunken male guest in an unprovoked act of aggression. I complained to the company who closed down my complaint. I was not advised of the company's processes in relation to such inappropriate behaviour. I spent the second week of my holiday feeling very vulnerable and alone miles from home and trying to avoid the guest and any further confrontation from him. Ironic when I had chosen this type of holiday as a single woman to feel safe and in company.

Absolutely brilliant

Absolutely brilliant holiday with Friendship travel in Cape Verde!!! Monica the rep was lovely, and nothing was too much trouble for her, including morning cups of coffee and a massage. The group ‘gelled’ very well, and there was a great deal of fun and laughter both at meal times and in the bar. Travelling as a lone female does have issues, but everything was fine and in place. I’ve recommended Friendship travel to all my single female friends, and I will certainly use them again!!!

IT'S NONE OF YOUR FU*KING BUSINESS !

Went to Forever Hotel Olu Deniz. Turkey Pub crawl first night at hotel.. A woman danced with one of our party and her partner was fuming so I quietly informed Jean the rep so she was aware of the worrying situation as she had a lot to drink and was dancing, She screamed 'KEEP YOUR FU*KING NOSE OUT OF IT' , 'IT'S NONE OF YOUR FU*KING BUSINESS !' right in my face - I left the bar. Returned 15 mins later to be abused again so left the group to try to find my way back. Naturally this really messed up the singles holiday . Colum (MD) gave platitudes but did not take it seriously. I'm sure Colum with come with a long explanation BUT when I told the hotel owner Oz , he laughed and said 'that's Jean for you' so the company have accepted this behaviour for a long time.

Super holiday!

An excellent week at the lovely H10 Ocean Dunas in Correlejo, Fuerteventura. My 3rd visit to an H10 in this area & my 2nd visit to this particular hotel - all with Friendship Travel. Superb location, good food, lovely rooms & very friendly & helpful staff - nothing is too much trouble. The Friendship hosts have always been excellent - Colin who was very helpful & organised when we went into lockdown just over 2 years ago in Fuerteventura & Anita on my recent holiday - very caring, helpful & fun! A great group each time helped of course. Would thoroughly recommend Friendship Travel holidays & definitely the H10 Hotel Ocean Dunas in Fuerteventura!

Many thanks for your review and compliments, Diane. Colum and all the Team at Friendship Travel.

Very disappointed.

Recently returned from a short break in Morocco and can honestly say it was the worst trip I have ever been on. The accommodation was basic to say the least and the amenities and food were extremely poor. At least the staff were nice and helpful and I enjoyed a couple of days of sunshine. Will not use this company again as I feel that their description of the break was very misleading.

I booked a holiday with this company…

I booked a holiday with this company going to Casa Rosa Villa, Olhao, Portugal, going on what the website in November said and also their brochure. On checking later for my holiday in June I found certain facts to be wrong. The “half board” was only 4 evening meals plus breakfast and the 7 minute walk to the “sea front view”, was a marina view! I cancelled the holiday and was only given 40% refund of the holiday price and less flight price. The agent in an email asked if I had checked the latest recently updated website, which was much too late in my case. In the brochure I received from this company “Winter 2022/Summer 2023”it clearly states half board. I can email a photo if anyone would like this. Also an agent from the company confirmed there is a marina view after the 7 minute walk. After making the booking in November 2022 certain facts have been changed on the website.

Hi Janice, further to your 1 star review I tried to call you and discuss the details but you have not returned my call. I am sorry you felt we provided a 1 star service and you needed to cancel. Normally 95% of our guests are happy with the service we provide and if you look on G oogle reviews or F eefo reviews we score 4.5 or higher out of 5 for most reviews. We are all human and do make mistakes from time to time and when we do we put our 'hands up' and try our best to put things right. In the case of your booking, you booked in November 2022 and clearly from your posting and comments to our team you researched the holiday in great detail. Casa Rosa Hotel ( which gets 4 1/2 reviews and up from all clients) has always been located a short walk from the sea front - harbour area. It also has always provided 4 dinners per week in the package, plus excursions plus some lunches. Casa Rosa has always been a short walk from the sea - the harbour sea area - the marina sea area - the port sea area. I am not sure what your point is here, perhaps you might return my call so we can try and figure this out in terms of the sea and the view. Our brochure page says half board ( but does not state how many dinners or lunches included)- on page 9 of our brochure states the exact number of meals will be provided to you. On your invoice it states this. You received a invoice on more than 1 occasion before April 2023. In your package you are receiving 7 breakfasts, 4 dinners with wine and 2 lunches. For me this is half board, I am sorry if you feel it is not half board. It states very very clearly on your invoices that only 4 dinners are included. This has never changed by Friendship Travel at any time on our web site or printed brochure. It was also stated on your invoice what was included when you booked in November 2022. We have never changed any of these details. I also note from your reviews on Trust Pilot out of the 10 reviews have made, you have given 1 star to 9 companies...... I am sorry you thought Friendship Travel 'changed' items but this is 100% not the case, Anyone reading this now can look at our printed brochure or web site and see what is clearly stated. Why would someone cancel a holiday and loose 60% of their monies because of the above items .... I am sorry Janice but at Friendship Travel we are baffled... If you wish to discuss this at any time, please return my call. Regards - Colum - MD.

Thanks ' Shaun' , We attempted to contact you via Trust Pilot to get your full name and look into your review, but you have not replied to any request. I am sorry you felt unhappy with our service, i am unable to check any details as we do not know who you are. Generally at least 95% of our clients were happy with how we dealt with them during COVID. Which?Travel magazine listed Friendship Travel as one of the 21 companies you can trust during COVID. I hope you will get in touch with your full name and details, to enable us to look into your comments. Karen - Friendship Travel - Customer Services.

Memories Hotel

Memories Hotel, Lindos. Having just returned from 3 weeks holiday there, I think it speaks for itself that I cannot get enough of this hotel as this was the 8th time I have stayed there. Friendship Travel are a very professional firm who go the extra mile to ensure your holiday runs smoothly. The hotel itself is brilliant - from its rooms, location right on the beach, food and entertainment, but mostly because of its competent/enthusiastic staff who make the holiday memorable. Cannot wait to return later in the year. Muriel Gallagher.

Friendship Travel & Cape Verde

I have recently returned from Cape Verde with Friendship Travel. I have to say they were excellent from booking through to the end of the holiday. I travelled alone from Birmingham airport & was met at the airport by a taxi driver with my name clearly written & taken directly to the hotel where I was met by the UK rep Monica. Whilst Cape Verde itself is quite underdeveloped, the hotel was fab & Monica ( such an enthusiastic & energetic lady, but not overwhelming) accompanied the group (approx 16 of us) on excursions & visits to the local town & a few local bars. Fab weather also helped make the holiday ! I’ve been travelling with FT for 6 years now as a single female & have always felt welcome & safe with this friendly company. Looking forward to another trip with them later in the year 😎😎

A few companies use premium rates, I refuse to use them. If they wanted my custom they would make sales and aftercare more accessible. Also check the customer service number from ones that offer freephone for sales. Sometime you buy for free then get hit by premium rates if you need to ring afterwards, especially complaints.
