Wi-Fi on cruise ships: 5 things to know about internet use on board

Gene Sloan

I have good news for those of you who assume the only way to stay in touch with home from a cruise ship is via a message in a bottle: Cruise ships come equipped with internet, and cruise Wi-Fi connections have been getting faster at a rapid rate — and cheaper, too.

While checking emails and surfing the web on some vessels still requires the patience of Job, onboard technological improvements on many ships combined with new satellite and direct ship-to-shore systems is making cruise internet access much more like what you find on land.

For cruise news, reviews and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

If you're a first-time cruiser, you're likely most concerned with the basics: Do cruise ships have Wi-Fi and how much does Wi-Fi cost on a cruise? Repeat cruisers who have paid the price for finicky service may be wondering the best way to access fast connection speeds across their devices while avoiding unnecessary charges.

I can guide you through the ins and outs of Wi-Fi on cruise ships. Here are five things to know about onboard internet before you set sail.

Wi-Fi on cruise ships will never be as fast (or reliable) as home

Yes, all cruise ships today offer an internet connection, but it might not be the seamless experience you've come to expect on land.

For most of the many years I've been writing about cruising, the typical internet connection at sea hasn't just been slow. It's been glacial. You'd click on a website only to experience many seconds of frustration. Maybe the page would come up. Maybe it wouldn't. Maybe the cruise would end while you were still sitting there.

Why the slow speeds? To start, there is no Comcast cable wire running to your cruise ship. On cruise ships, every packet of data you are downloading onto your phone or computer, for the most part, is coming over a satellite, which is not a quick or inexpensive proposition.

The maritime communication companies that specialize in providing internet connections to ships have been trying to speed things up in recent years. Solutions have included adding more satellites and linking their systems to land-based towers that connect with ships as they near shore.

But, in the end, there are limits to just how well a satellite system can work. For starters, a ship needs a clear "line of sight" to a satellite to exchange data, something that isn't always the case. Cruise ships traveling through the famed Norwegian fjords, for instance, can lose their satellite signal due to the height of surrounding mountains.

And there are certain parts of the world where satellite coverage is too thin or nonexistent to allow for internet access on cruise ships. During a sailing in the Russian Arctic on a Hapag-Lloyd Cruises ship, I was forced to live without internet for a good part of a week due to a lack of satellite coverage in the area (something, I must say, was kind of wonderful).

So while onboard cruise Wi-Fi speeds are getting better, they'll never be as fast as at home, where a hard wire brings the signal straight to your router.

Onboard internet speed is getting much faster

On some cruise ships, the signal has become so much faster you now can stream Netflix from the comfort of your cabin — something that would have been unthinkable just a few years ago.

New satellite systems, paired with multimillion-dollar investments in shipboard technology, really are making things better in a big way. A turning point came in 2014, when cruise giant Royal Caribbean partnered with satellite company O3b Networks to create a new onboard internet system that it claimed was six times faster than anything else at sea. Called Voom, the system tapped into new Medium Earth Orbit satellites operated by O3b that can shoot their beams directly at ships as they move.

When I ran a speed test of Voom on Adventure of the Seas, I found the line's fastest option, the Surf + Stream service, usually offered download speeds of just around 3 megabits per second. I never found download speeds exceeding 4 Mbps, but I did see it drop as low as 1.5 Mbps. While still significantly slower than many home connections, that's fast enough to enjoy Netflix and other streaming video services, though I did experience grainy video and buffering issues on occasion.

internet on carnival cruise

Royal Caribbean still claims Voom is the fastest and best Wi-Fi option on cruise ships today. But we're a bit skeptical – not because the Wi-Fi is slower than stated, but because other cruise lines, like Carnival Cruise Line , are quickly catching up.

Carnival cruise Wi-Fi is also fast enough to support Netflix streaming on some ships, the company says. The cruise line uses a hybrid system that combines faster satellite connections at sea with a network of less-expensive land-based towers that take over as its vessels near coastal areas.

On a sailing on one of the Carnival ships outfitted for faster internet, Carnival Sunrise , I did notice a significant improvement in cruise Wi-Fi speed. But the promised access to Netflix streaming wasn't quite as smooth as I had hoped. Clicking on a favorite show, I only could watch for a few minutes before the connection inevitably froze.

Some lines in just the last year or so have begun partnering with Elon Musk's Starlink system for speedy internet.

Cruise internet costs have gone down

Just a few years back, you had to pay a small fortune for the privilege of accessing the internet on a cruise ship. The base rate for onboard Wi-Fi for years started around 75 cents a minute. That's $45 for a single hour online!

The old pay-by-the-minute system, which could leave even modest internet users with sky-high bills, is now giving way to simpler and more affordable "all you can browse" plans on many lines.

How much does Wi-Fi cost on a cruise today? Well, the highest-speed version of Royal Caribbean's Voom connection currently costs $26.99 per day for one device. In the old days of 75 cents-a-minute pricing, that same amount of money would have gotten you just 36 minutes of web time.

Royal Caribbean also offers a slower-speed version of Voom that can't support streaming for $19.99 per day for one device. For both cruise internet packages, there are discounts for adding more devices and purchasing a package online before your sailing.

Another line bringing down internet costs dramatically is Carnival. At the very low end, it now offers a Social Wi-Fi plan that allows access to all the key social sites (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.) as well as messaging services such as WhatsApp, for just $15.30 a day ($18 when purchased on board). A slightly more expensive Value Wi-Fi plan, at $19.55 per day when bought in advance ($23 per day when bought on board), adds access to email and most websites.

The line's top-tier Premium Wi-Fi plan, at $21.25 per day when bought in advance ($25 when bought onboard), triples the speed of the Value plan and adds access to VoIP calling on messaging apps and Skype (but not FaceTime). Note that you might be able to make Wi-Fi calls from an iPhone or via WhatsApp, even with the less expensive plan. Passengers who pay for a Carnival Cruise Wi-Fi plan in advance of sailing get a 15% discount.

But perhaps the biggest development in cruise internet costs in recent years is that many higher-end lines have begun offering internet access for — get this — free. Viking , Regent Seven Seas Cruises and Silversea Cruises are among lines now including unlimited internet time in the base cost of a voyage. At some of these lines, such as Regent, you can pay extra for faster service.

internet on carnival cruise

Another way to get free or cheaper internet time on ships is to join cruise line loyalty programs . Many offer free cruise Wi-Fi or discounted package pricing to customers who hit mid- to upper-tier levels.

At Celebrity Cruises, for instance, the top Zenith tier in the line's Captain's Club loyalty program comes with unlimited free Premium-level internet (the fastest plan at the line). At Princess Cruises , customers can get 50 percent off MedallionNet internet packages after reaching the Platinum level in the line's Captain's Circle loyalty program (to qualify, you'll need to complete either five cruises, or 50 cruise days).

On Royal Caribbean, the path to free Internet on a cruise is through its high-end suites . Book a room in a Sky Class or Star Class suite (all suites above the junior suite level), and you'll receive free Voom.

Apps offer an alternative to paid cruise Wi-Fi

In recent years, a growing number of cruise lines have rolled out free apps for your phone that will let you make reservations for onboard restaurants, spa treatments and other services without ever leaving your pool deck lounge chair. On some ships operated by Carnival, you even can order beer and pizza to wherever you happen to be using an app.

internet on carnival cruise

Many of these apps also will show you a schedule of daily activities, offer ship deck plans and sometimes port maps to help you get around, and let you check your onboard account statement in real time. On Celebrity Edge and other Celebrity Cruises Edge-class ships, you can even use an app to remotely open your cabin door, change channels on the television and turn off the lights.

While all these apps work off cruise ship Wi-Fi, the good news is they don't require the purchase of a plan to use. Nor do they come with any other sort of fee — at least for most features.

At Carnival, you'll pay $5 per cruise to add a "chat" feature to the line's otherwise free HUB app that will let you communicate via text-like messages with other app-enabled passengers. Norwegian Cruise Line also requires passengers to pay a fee (currently $9.95 per cruise) to use a messaging and calling feature of its Cruise Norwegian app.

Cruise internet tip: Use airplane mode to avoid unwanted charges

Whether or not you're purchasing a Wi-Fi plan on a cruise ship, I have one very strong piece of advice: Put your phone in airplane mode the moment you step on board the vessel and leave it that way for the duration of the sailing.

This is the safest way to avoid unwanted data charges, which can be enormous. (Remember the story of a family that racked up $14,000 in data charges on a cruise?)

As many cruisers have found the hard way, international phone plans such as AT&T's $10-a-day International Day Pass do not apply to cruise ships at sea. If you let your AT&T phone roam while you're on a vessel, you'll pay $2.05 per megabyte of data — even if your base plan at home offers you unlimited data. You'll also pay $3 per minute to make a call, $0.50 per text and $1.30 to send a photo. All that adds up very quickly.

internet on carnival cruise

AT&T does offer a " Cruise Plus " plan for a flat fee of $100 that allows unlimited talk and text during sailings up to 30 days in duration. But it only comes with 1 gigabyte of data (which may seem like a lot until you start streaming movies), with any overage billing at a still-hefty $10 per 100 megabytes. It's also not available on every ship. More than 175 vessels are part of the program.

If you insist on leaving your cellular service on during a cruise, you should at least disable any apps running in the background (as they'll be eating up data, and running up your bill) and disable email auto-check.

Personally, I find it easier to just hit the airplane mode button. Once in airplane mode, I reactivate the Wi-Fi feature on my phone to access the cruise Wi-Fi, and sign up for a shipboard plan that will let me stay in touch by email or a VoIP service like WhatsApp.

Everything to Know About Internet on a Cruise (Speed, Cost, & More)

It wasn’t that long ago that having internet access at sea was a nice perk, but hardly a necessity. Today, most people must have wi-fi — even if they are on a cruise in the middle of the ocean. In fact, we always sign up for service every time that we sail.

Speed test for internet on a cruise

Of course, there are challenges to providing online access for thousands of people on a cruise ship that can be hundreds of miles of miles from the nearest land. That’s why in general you should expect the service on a cruise ship to be more expensive — and slower — than what you’d find back home.

Still, all cruise lines now provide wi-fi on their ships so that you can stay in touch whether it be for work or just checking in on the kids. You can also access social media sites, check email, and even stream movies in some cases.

But before you head out into the middle of the ocean, there’s likely a few things you’ll want to know about getting online on a cruise. We’ve answered some of the biggest questions so that you know what to expect once you board your ship.

In This Article...

How Much Does Internet Cost on a Cruise?

internet on carnival cruise

At your home, things are pretty simple. You pay one amount for your internet service and connect as many devices as you want — and they all have access to the full internet.

On a cruise, things are a little different. The cruise lines charge different amounts for different tiers of service. They also charge based on the number of devices used at one time. So if you want to connect two devices at once (such as a husband and wife both surfing the internet), then you’ll pay twice as much.

All that said, expect the price of service on a cruise to be much more than you pay back home. We’ve rounded up the costs of internet for several major cruise lines below.

In general, expect to pay about $20-30 per day, per device for wi-fi access.

Carnival Carnival offers three different tiers of service: Social, Value, and Premium wi-fi plans. Each offers different levels of access to the internet. One tip to save money: purchase your plan ahead of time to save off the rates on the ship .

Social Plan: Carnival’s Social plan offers access to social media sites, Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, and airline sites. However, most of the internet (such as email and news websites) are blocked. You also can’t stream music or movies. The cost is $18 per day for one device once you are on the ship.

Value Plan: The Value plan offers access to much of the internet, including websites for news, weather, sports, and most importantly — email. The service is also faster than the Social plan. For the extra access, you’ll pay $23 per day if you wait to purchase once you are on the ship.

Premium Plan: If you want the entire internet and you want the fastest speeds on Carnival, the the Premium plan is ideal. It offers full access at triple the speed of the Value plan. Depending on which ship you sail, streaming might be available. (Streaming is often provided on newer ships.) The Premium plan costs $25 per day.

Royal Caribbean When it comes to internet on a cruise, Royal Caribbean is trying to position itself as a leader. The cruise line offers VOOM internet service , which it bills as “the fastest internet at sea.” If booked ahead of time, you can get up to 30% off the rates you’ll pay on the ship.

Surf + Stream: This package offers internet access, including the ability to stream music or movies. On a recent cruise the rate was $23.99 per day for one device when purchased on the ship. The cost was $29.99 if purchased for a single day only. Rates are considerably cheaper when booking ahead of time.

Norwegian Cruise Line Norwegian offers a different take on internet access. That’s because the cruise line has a popular “Free at Sea” sale that allows passengers to get free perks with their booking. One perk is internet access. Still, if you book a cruise without the free internet, you have three different levels of service you can purchase.

Unlimited Wi-Fi : This plan provides full internet access, outside of streaming. It also includes access to email providers, social media, and more. The cost runs $29.99 per day for one device.

Unlimited Premium Wi-Fi : Want to stream Netflix, Hulu or other services? Then you’ll need Norwegian’s highest-level package. It allows streaming movies and music and costs $39.99 per day if purchased on the ship.

Norwegian also offers a packages of minutes of access.

Celebrity Cruises Celebrity Cruises offers wi-fi service to its passengers across the fleet. Like sister cruise line Royal Caribbean, Celebrity now offers one level of service known as the Premium Wi-Fi Package.

This services includes full access to the web and streaming movies and music. While Celebrity doesn’t list costs publicly on their website, the rate for an upcoming cruise was seen $30 per day for one device, with a 20% discount if booking ahead of time.

One thing to know is that Celebrity trips often have a “Always Included” deal. With this offer, drinks and wi-fi service are already included in your fare.

Princess Cruises Princess offers service known as MedallionNet, which is dubs “The Best Wi-Fi at Sea.” The cruise line says that it can reach speeds “often eclipsing 100 Mbps,” which is faster than the average broadband speed on land.

The service is available starting at $24.99 per day for one device when purchased before the cruise.

Like Celebrity, Princess also has special fares with things like drink packages, gratuities, and wi-fi already included. In other words, you may have to pay nothing extra for service if you book one of these deals.

Other Cruise Lines If your cruise line isn’t listed above, that’s ok. Most lines have prices that vary based on the level of service, but most are in the $20-30 range for one device .

Additional devices are usually in the $15-$20 range.

How Fast Is Internet on a Cruise?

Expecting to have blazing fast internet on the ship like you would back at home? Well, it’s time to lower your expectations a little bit before you get online. While the cruise lines love to boast about the speed of their service, the actual speeds you see can vary.

We’ve been on ships with blazing fast connections and others that have been insufferably slow.

In our tests across different cruise lines, the speed of service has varied widely, but seems most consistently in the 3-5 Mbps range. That said, we’ve been on cruises with speeds in the 1 Mbps range and some that approached 60 Mbps .

Bottom line, it’s tough to say exactly what sort of speed you will experience. That said, with the introduction of Starlink (a satellite internet provider) across many lines, speeds do seem to be trending upward.

internet on carnival cruise

For lower-tier plans that are less expensive, expect the speed to be slower .

In other words, while you may find service is more than fast enough to meet your needs, be prepared for the possibility of slower speeds than you are used to.

Can I Post to Facebook, Instagram or Other Social Media Sites?

Absolutely. In fact, the cheapest plans usually have access only to the social media sites and apps like Facebook, Twitter, Snap, Instagram and more. If this is the main way you keep in touch with people back home, then it’s a cheap way to stay connected.

Even so, don’t expect the service to be blazing fast. You’ll have access but will still deal with the slower service you often find at sea.

Can I Stream Movies or Music on a Cruise?

internet on carnival cruise

Usually you can stream, however there are some caveats. First, you must purchase a plan that allows streaming. Many cruise lines offer lower tiers of service that are less expensive, but do not offer streaming capabilities. Those packages offering streaming are higher-priced.

Second, given the internet speed, you could see some lagging or lower-quality pictures. Many reports from users complain about streaming troubles. We’ve personally have had issues as well in tests we’ve done on cruises. Other times, it’s streamed perfectly.

There can be some hiccups. For example, a show might stream well for a while and then suddenly have a pixelated picture or pause while data loads.

Bottom line: Yes, you can stream while on a cruise, but don’t be surprised if there are times where it doesn’t work as well. If you want to watch a show, we think it’s a better idea to download it before you arrive on the ship. That way you don’t have to rely on internet access to watch.

Can I Use the Wi-Fi to Call or Message With My Phone?

Cell service is provided on the ship at sea, but it can be expensive. A much easier thing to do is simply use the ship’s wi-fi to send messages and even make calls.

Depending on your phone, it may be easiest to use a messaging app like WhatsApp. We’ve noticed that the iMessage service on iPhones seems to work well to send messages to other iPhones, but doesn’t easily text Android users over the wi-fi. Services like WhatsApp work with no issues.

As well, you can setup your phone to call over wi-fi or call through a communication app. Either way, you can use the ship’s wi-fi to keep in touch.

Are There Data Caps on the Plans?

internet on carnival cruise

Most of the cruise line plans these days are “unlimited” plans that don’t put a cap on your data.

That said, we wouldn’t push it by trying to download the Lord of the Rings trilogy. First of all, it would take forever at the connection speeds. Beyond that, the internet is being provided by satellite for thousands of passengers at any given time. It’s likely that you would be asked about using such a massive amount of data.

If you’re doing what the service is designed for — streaming shows, checking email, etc. — you likely won’t be running into issues. But if you are using a ton of data, you might be asked about what’s going on.

Do I Have to Buy Internet for Every Day of the Cruise?

When we mentioned pricing above, you noticed that it was on a per-day basis. Most plans are sold this way ( similar to drink packages ). You pay a set amount per day, and the plan is purchased for the entire cruise. So if it’s $20 per day, you’ll pay $140 for a seven-day cruise. This gives you access for the whole trip.

But what if you want to only occasionally check email or post to Facebook? In that case, the cruise lines usually sell a smaller package. It can either be a 24-hour pass (unlimited access for 24 consecutive hours) or a number of minutes to access the web.

This allows you online access without the cost of paying for service during the entire cruise.

Are Websites Blocked or Filtered?

As you might expect, there is some blocking and filtering of websites while on the ship’s wi-fi. Of course, if you buy a lower-tier plan that doesn’t allow full access to the internet (such as Carnival’s Social plan) then you won’t be able to access the full internet. Even if you do have full online access, you can still expect some content filtering.

For most people this will never be an issue. However, if you are trying to look at pages with adult themes, then you’ll likely find you’re unable to connect. For example, Carnival says that “access to certain sites such as mature or violent content is blocked” over their network.

In other words, expect to use the internet like you would at your local library. You’ll be able to access everything you need… but maybe not everything you want.

Can I Use a VPN on the Cruise Ship?

Many people use a VPN in order to access their work privately. Unfortunately, these don’t always work on a cruise.

Carnival, for instance, has stated clearly in the past that “VPN connections are not supported” on their network. Royal Caribbean doesn’t explicitly state one way or the other, but we’ve seen several reports that using a VPN can be hit or miss for passengers. In our experience, using a VPN led to some interruption in the connection.

Norwegian Cruise Lines (NCL) is one of the few we’ve found that explicitly says they will let you access via a VPN. If you purchase their Unlimited Premium package, you are allowed access using one. Lower-tier packages do not allow VPN access.

In other words, unless you are sailing on Norwegian, then you should just assume you can’t access with a virtual private network. You might get lucky and be able to, but chances are slim.

Cruise Internet Seems Expensive, How Can I Save Money?

internet on carnival cruise

You are right that getting online access is pricey on a cruise. The good news is that there are ways you can save. We’ve covered them in more detail here , but here are some ideas:

Book a Cruise With Free Internet as a Perk Norwegian, Celebrity, Princess and other lines have started to offer sales that provide free perks for cruising. One of those perks is usually free wi-fi during your cruise. Book one of these and you don’t have to worry about the cost of access. It’s already included in your fare.

Wait Until You’re in Port to Get Online If you don’t need access every day, there’s a free way to get service: wait until you get to port. In many cruise ports there are stores or restaurants that offer free wi-fi to customers. You can sit down, have a bite to eat, and check email, etc. Now you might not be able to spend all day loitering while you watch a movie on your phone, but it’s a good way to check your email for free.

Pay For a Smaller Package While the internet is most widely sold in a package that lasts the length of your cruise, there are options for smaller amounts of time. Head to the ship’s internet Café and you’ll find that you can access the internet by the minute. It can be pricey on a per-minute basis, but still much cheaper than buying a package for the length of the cruise.

Buy Ahead of Time Want to save? Book ahead of time. Cruise lines offer discounts to passengers who buy the service before they sail. This discount can be significant — often 10-20% off the price of booking onboard.

It won’t make the service “cheap,” but it can take the sting off the high price tag.

Share a Connection Internet plans on cruise ships charge per device. So if you want to have two devices connected at once, then it’s double the cost. However, they also allow you to share a connection.

Say you have a wi-fi package with one device. Once a person is done with it, then another person can login to that account and access the internet from their own device. So a husband can hop online to check email on his laptop, and then a wife can login later to surf the web on her phone without paying for an extra device. It’s just that only one device at a time is allowed.

Hi Vickie, in the Caribbean we use whatsapp a lot instead of texts so most persons have whatsapp. The catch is both persons need to have whatsapp for the features to work for whatsapp calls or whatsapp video as it’s using voip. You will still need an internet service to use whatsapp . It doesn’t work like regular phone calls in that sense so you would have to tell people in advance call me via whatsapp call during this period. Hope this helps .

That would be iffy. During our tests across several lines, we’ve seen speeds ranging from 1-5 mbps.

How Much Is WiFi On A Carnival Cruise?

Carnival Cruise Lines offers three wifi package options on board. The prices range from $12.75 to $22.00 per day. The price varies depending on when whether you pre-book it and how much internet access you need.

Unfortunately, you can’t just purchase these packages on a day-by-day basis. Carnival Cruise line requires passengers to buy the internet package for the entire duration of the cruise.

In the past, you had the option of buying it just for the days you needed, but that is no longer an option.

Either way, you get 15% off if you purchase before you go on board. Cut-off for pre-purchase is 11:59 PM EST the day before embarkation.

Let’s take a closer look at the package options Carnival Cruise Line offers guests…

Carnival Cruise Line Victory At Sea

Carnival Cruise Internet Plans and Prices

Carnival offers three Wi-Fi packages onboard, the Social, Value, and Premium Packages.

The pricing is as follows:

The Social Plan : This is the most basic plan Carnival offers, costing $12.75 if you purchase before boarding. If you purchase while on the ship, the price is $15 per day.

As the name suggests, the Social Package gives you access to popular social media apps and websites. These include Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Linkedin, Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, TikTok, and Snapchat.

Most other sites and apps are blocked.

The Value Plan : With the value package, you have access to most websites and can check email, news sites, and all the social media sites offered in the Social Plan. However, streaming sites like Netflix and Hulu won’t work. The value plan also doesn’t support video or Skype calling.

Anything that requires a lot of upload speed won’t work on this plan.

The Value plan starts at $17.00 per day with the pre-booking discount, or $20 per day if you book it on board.

Now the Premium Plan : This plan includes everything in the Social and Value Plans plus streaming apps and video calling such as Zoom and Skype.

The Premium package starts at $18.70 per day with the pre-booking discount, or $22 per day if you book onboard.

It’s important to note, however, the reliability of all these packages can vary greatly and Carnival does not offer any refunds for weak or poor connections.

How Do You Access The Internet Once On The Ship

Connecting to the internet on a Carnival cruise ship is pretty straightforward. To get connected, get on your device, go to the Wi-Fi settings, and select ‘Carnival WiFi’ from the list of networks. There may be some variability in the name, as it may be named after the ship you’re on, but it would still be called ‘Carnival (Ship Name) WiFi.’

Once you click on the network it will open a browser. From there, follow the prompts to get connected.

If the webpage isn’t popping up, you can also type in carnivalwifi.com on your browser and it’ll take you to the same page.

If you have trouble connecting or bad connection, go to guest services. They may help you or connect you with technical support.

Do I Have To Buy Access For Every Device? Can I Share Access?

There is no need to buy access for every device but you can only use your Carnival WiFi package on one device at a time.

You can move between devices freely as the packages aren’t locked into a single device.

Meaning, if you want to use your laptop and phone, you can, but not at the same time.

Also, if multiple people in your cabin want to be online at the same time, they will each have to purchase a plan.

How Fast Is Carnival’s Wi-Fi Service?

Carnival doesn’t state on its website the internet speeds they offer. This is likely because there is a lot of variability depending on where the cruise ship is sailing.

It will, of course, also depend on the package you purchase.

However, we have found from various reports that the speed is considered ‘reasonably good’ for a cruise.

There are times when streaming the web will seem sluggish and there are times when the speed will be quick and efficient. It isn’t very consistent the whole trip.

The connection can be considered slow by modern standards, and if you plan on working or downloading large files, you may experience problems.

If you just want to stay connected, check email, and post a couple of selfies here and there – you will be just fine.

It’s also important to keep in mind that Carnival does not offer a refund if the speed isn’t up to your standards. As long as you have internet and can access the sites they promise, regardless of the speed, they have held up their end of the bargain.

Do I Have To Buy Wi-Fi Access To Use Carnival’s HUB App?

You may have heard of Carnival’s HUB app . It offers real-time info and features like restaurant booking, excursion booking, messaging with other passengers, and more.

You don’t need an internet connection for the HUB app, as it runs on the ship’s internal network. But, no browsing or social media comes with it.

Also, you will want to download the app before boarding the ship if you aren’t purchasing an internet package.

Is There Free WiFi On Carnival Cruise Ships?

Carnival Cruise Line does not offer free Wi-Fi . To stay connected with your loved ones and friends, you must buy an internet package.

These plans range from basic social media access to a more expensive premium plan. Prices depend on data usage, speed requirements, length of voyage, etc.

You can buy a plan before or while on board the ship. The service is available everywhere on board, including private balconies and cabins .

Is Carnival WiFi Worth It?

Carnival WiFi packages could be an awesome addition to your getaway, but whether or not they’re worth it can depend on a lot of variables.

For example, a standard Social Package for a 7-day cruise will cost you $89.25 and the Premium would set you back $131.25

It really depends on how much you plan on using your internet while at sea. Depending on where you sail to, when the ship is in port you’ll likely have a 4G or 5G connection available.

Plus, when you go on excursions, you won’t need internet access.

So it comes down to how many days you’ll really need the internet while on the ship and how often you think you’ll use it.

Can I Make FaceTime Calls On The Wi-Fi?

Facetiming

If you purchase the Premium Package, you will be able to FaceTime while on the cruise. You won’t be able to FaceTime (or use any other video call app) with the Social or Value package.

Keep in mind, although the premium plan supports FaceTime, the connection won’t be as reliable as the one you have at home. There may be areas on the ship that have better reception.

Are There Blocked Websites On The Carnival Internet Packages?

Even with the premium package plans, there are websites you won’t be able to access.

Gambling and adult websites are blocked on all plans. Gambling isn’t legal everywhere and it creates a lot of legal issues in International waters, so it’s easier to block the sites altogether.

Likewise, Carnival is a family-friendly cruise and to make sure no children accidentally access any inappropriate sites, adult-content sites are also blocked.

Can I Stream Movies or Music on Carnival’s Wi-Fi?

On the Premium Package, you technically can stream movies and music. Sites like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and YouTube are available while onboard.

However, some customers have stated that certain streaming sites can be a hit or miss.

meaning you may be able to access Netflix perfectly fine on the Wi-Fi, but encounter issues and buffering on Hulu.

We honestly recommend downloading shows you want to watch before going on your cruise. That way you won’t have to worry about the speed of the Wi-Fi and can even opt for a cheaper Wi-Fi package.

Can I Use A VPN On Carnival?

I always opt for a virtual private network (VPN) when I travel for security and privacy online.

However, carnival states they don’t support VPN’s while onboard. They state: “VPN connections are not supported. Discuss your VPN limitations with your company’s IT department if you are planning to work while sailing. We are not able to change your settings on board.”

Carnival Cruise WiFi: Ultimate Guide To Carnival WiFi Plans

Imagine Cruising without the internet. No media uploading and no calling. Sounds weird, right? It’s totally abnormal for me as I strongly believe that “Life without the internet is like paralysis.”

But don’t worry. Carnival Cruises offers onboard Internet packages of different prices and quality. Depending on your preferences, these include social media, value, and premium packages.

But hold on! These packages are expensive and unsuitable for streaming videos or other high-bandwidth activities. So, before purchasing, knowing what you’re getting and what you need is important.

So hang on, my fellow cruisers. I’ve covered all your questions regarding Carnival Cruise WiFi in this article.

Also, at the end, I’ve shared my tips and tricks related to Carnival WiFi that will offer convenience and help you save on your budget.

So, let’s get started.

Table of Contents

How Much Do Carnival Wifi Packages Cost?

Carnival offers different WiFi packages based on your needs and preferences. Each package has its charges and speeds.

The packages range from $12.75 per day to $30 per day. Prices may vary depending on the type of cruise and the duration of the cruise.

But you can also opt for the full vacation WiFi package, which costs less. I highly recommend this option as I’ve personally used it.

Amazingly, there’s also a bonus from Carnival: if you buy any package before boarding, you’ll get a 15% discount as a gift. Remember, you must purchase before getting on board to avail of this offer.

What Are The Available Carnival Wifi Packages?

Carnival WiFi offers three different internet packages depending on your needs. These are social, value, and premium.

1- The Social Plan

social plan

If you’re someone like me and love constantly uploading on social media, there’s a specific plan just for your needs: the “social” plan.

With this option, you’ll have access to various social media platforms, enabling you to stay connected with friends and share your cruise experiences.

Keep in mind that you can’t make video calls on this plan. I faced a major misunderstanding, but now I’m sharing this insight with you so that you can stay informed.

The popular social package also allows access to popular airline sites, enabling you to check in for your flight towards the end of your cruise.

The price of this social plan is $15 per day. But if you purchase it before boarding, it will cost you $12.75 per day.

The entire cruise costs $89.25 (pre-purchase). Most importantly, buying a 24-hour pass for the Social Wi-fi plan is impossible.

  • Allow usage for Snapchat, FaceBook Messenger, WhatsApp, and other platforms

2- The Value Plan

The Value Plan is for people who enjoy browsing their favorite websites while accessing social media during the cruise.

So, if you’re someone needing to check Linkedin, emails, or handle other important stuff on websites, the Value Plan is your go-to. Its cost after boarding is $20, but if purchased beforehand, it’s only $17. For a 7-day cruise, it totals $119.

It’s also available as a 24-hour pass, priced at $22 per day. Unfortunately, video or music streaming is not supported by this plan.

  • Decent Speed
  • Allow surfing
  • Don’t allow video calling and streaming

3- The Premium Plan

The Premium Plan

The Premium Plan is the top tier offering from Carnival Cruise, providing faster and broader service compared to the Social and Value packages.

Its major advantage lies in access to video and music streaming. It also supports video calling on platforms like Skype and Zoom, wherever coverage allows.

This package is available before boarding for $18.70 per person per day. However, if you purchase it after boarding, the price increases to $22 daily. For a seven-day trip, the total cost would amount to $130.90

For the 24-hour pass, the daily costs rise to $30. This could save you money if you only need access on specific days.

  • Support Skype, Zoom, etc, for video calling
  • Allow streaming

Are There Different Speed Options With Carnival WiFi Packages?

Yes. Each Carnival Cruise WiFi package offers different speeds. The Premium plan stands out as the fastest service, providing speeds up to three times faster than the Social and Value plans.

I opted for the Premium plan during my cruise, and its speed was truly impressive. I experienced no connection problems while video and music streaming or conducting video calls. It delivered an excellent performance overall.

While the Value Plan does offer decent speed, it doesn’t come closer to the Premium plan. Also, the Value Plan doesn’t support video calls and streaming due to its lower bandwidth.

How Fast Is The Internet On Carnival Cruise?

The internet speed on Carnival Cruise ships can vary. It depends on where the ship is, how many people are using it, and the internet plan you bought.

You might not get super-fast speeds like at home, but it works okay for basic things like social media or emails.

Newer ships have better Internet, up to 1-2 mbps on older ones and 8-10 mbps on newer ones, especially those with Starlink.

The problem isn’t just speed; it’s also about “latency.” This is around 40-60 milliseconds at home, but on regular ship Wi-Fi, it’s slower at about 700 milliseconds. This causes buffering and frustration.

On Starlink-equipped ships, I tested and found faster speeds of around 35 milliseconds. This made watching Netflix and Amazon Prime smooth without any issues.

If your room is on a lower deck, like Cove Balconies , you might have a slower internet speed compared to upper decks because of better satellite communication. So, consider that when choosing your cabin if you and yours care about internet speed.

Can You Call Home?

If you have the Premium Plan, you can make calls to your love ones and home using apps like FaceTime audio, Skype, or WhatsApp.

If your phone can make calls over WiFi, you can use that feature with the Premium Plan. I use T-Mobile, and I put my phone on airplane mode when I get on the ship.

Then, I turn on the T-Mobile WiFi so my phone works like a normal phone using the ship’s Internet. WiFi calling doesn’t use your cell data, just the Internet. AT&T also has WiFi calling.

Can I Purchase Carnival WiFi Packages Before the Cruise?

wifi speed

Yes. Purchasing a Carnival WiFi package before the cruise is the best time, as you get a 15% discount on every plan.

I also purchased the Premium Plan before boarding, which costs me $18.70 per day instead of $22.

Is There a Carnival WiFi Device Limit?

Carnival Cruise WiFi typically has a restriction on the number of devices connected to a single WiFi package at a time. However, this limit depends on the specific package purchased.

Some packages are to be connected at a time, while others could allow multi-device to be connected concurrently.

The package I purchased only provides Internet to a single device at a time. If someone else was using my package, I could disconnect their access when I logged in. With this feature, I could control the device linked to my WiFi package.

Can You Use a VPN On Carnival Cruise WiFi?

I know many people are concerned about VPN usage, especially on using public Wi-Fi. So that’s something really important to know on cruise ships. But Carnival Cruise line does say that they are safe and secure.

However, most cruise ships do not allow you to use a VPN on cruise ship WiFi.

However, Norwegian Cruise Line allows VPN usage on their WiFi. However, I’m unsure whether it works for all their plans or the only premium one.

Are There Any Free Wifi Access Points Onboard A Carnival Cruise?

Carnival Cruise Line typically offers internet access through their WiFi packages, but there are several tricks you can use to access free WiFi points.

During my cruise, a lot of people were searching for a free WiFi spot, and some of my fellows were asking me to turn on my WiFi hotspot.

From all these experiences, I’ve compiled a list of ways to access free WiFi without purchasing it.

  • Ask your fellow cruiser to share device WiFi (If he has purchased the package)
  • Search for the local restaurant with a free WiFi spot
  • Take help from Crew members
  • Walk up to the open decks to pick up a signal from the local area or port
  • Look for the Bars with Free WiFi in Port

The Alternative Of Carnival Cruise Line Wi-Fi: Carnival Hub App

Back in 2015, Carnival Cruise Line introduced the HUB app. At first, it lets guests do simple stuff like reading a digital Fun Times, checking account balances, and seeing the weather at ports.

Spend $5 for the whole cruise on the Carnival Hub app for chatting with onboard friends and family.

Now, the app does a lot more:

  • Complete cruise check-in
  • Begin the mandatory muster drill
  • Order food for delivery to most spots on the ship
  • Read restaurant menus and make dining reservations
  • View ship maps
  • Chat with cruise companions
  • Purchase things such as shore excursions, drink packages, and wifi packages

You can grab the app from the Google Play Store or iTunes. Getting it before you board to dodge hefty fees from your cell phone provider is a good idea.

You don’t have to buy the Internet to use the app.

How Do You Avoid Mobile Phone Charges At Sea?

The simplest way is to put your phone in “airplane mode.” Then, go to your device settings and turn on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. This way, your smartphone can still connect with your other devices.

It’s a good idea to tell your friends and family that you’re doing this. Just in case they need to reach you while you’re away.

How To Join Carnival Wi-Fi Packages?

Getting Wi-Fi on the ship is easy.

Just check your laptop or personal device’s Wi-Fi settings. You’ll see a list of available networks. Look for “Carnival Vista Wi-Fi” or “Carnival Guest Wi-Fi.”

Choose that network. Once connected, a window will pop up asking for your folio number and date of birth. Enter those, then click login.

After that, click confirm, and you’re online. If you’re using a laptop and don’t see the prompts, open your browser and go to carnivalwifi.com. If you have trouble connecting, Guest Services can help you out.

Does Carnival Use Starlink, And Why Should I Care?

Carnival is rolling out Starlink Internet across its ships, offering a better onboard Internet experience.

Starlink, Elon Musk’s project, provides faster Internet using satellite technology at lower costs and higher speeds.

Many cruise lines, including Carnival, upgrade their onboard Internet using Starlink. It theoretically offers faster speeds than older cruise ship Internet. However, cruise IT departments manage speeds to ensure stability when many passengers are online.

On my recent cruise, the onboard Internet was upgraded to Starlink. For the first time, I stopped complaining about slow download speeds. It wasn’t lightning-fast, but it was more stable and less frustrating. Upload speed had also improved.

If you’ve had issues with cruise Wi-Fi before, check if your ship has switched to Starlink before purchasing Wi-Fi.

Which Carnival Ships Have Starlink?

  • Carnival Celebration
  • Carnival Elation
  • Carnival Magic
  • Carnival Panorama
  • Carnival Pride
  • Carnival Sunrise
  • Carnival Sunshine
  • Carnival Valor
  • Carnival Venezia
  • Carnival Vista
  • Carnival Jubilee (future ship to be equipped with Starlink)

Can I Upgrade Or Change My Carnival Wi-fi Plan During The Cruise?

You can upgrade or change your Carnival WiFi package during the cruise. Visit the Guest Services desk onboard the ship, and they’ll assist you in switching to a different WiFi package if needed.

Tips For Maximizing The Usage Of Carnival Internet Plan

Here are my tips for making the most of your Carnival WiFi package:

  • Purchase the WiFi Package before boarding
  • Choose package wisely
  • Manage devices
  • Optimize usage
  • Access WiFi during less crowded hours
  • Look for ships with improved internet networks like Starlink

Expert Tips And Hints When Using Carnival Cruise WiFi

Here are some simple tips for using Carnival Cruise WiFi:

  • Plan for Savings: Buy your WiFi plan before your cruise to save around 15% and ensure full coverage.
  • Save Money on Port Days: Consider getting WiFi only on sea days. Use free WiFi in ports to save money.
  • Share Connection Wisely: Share WiFi with friends but agree on times to avoid disconnecting each other.
  • Affordable Chat Service: Spend $5 for the whole cruise on the Carnival Hub app to chat with onboard friends and family.
  • Device Usage Limit: One device at a time on the plan, but multiple devices can use it. You might have to kick someone off if they’re already using it.
  • Streaming Services Use: Some say no, but I used Amazon Music without issues. Download Netflix shows before the cruise for smoother watching.
  • Easy Chat Purchase: Pay $5 onboard for the chat feature, billed directly to your Sail & Sign account.
  • Guest Services Help: If internet issues arise, go to Guest Services. They might refund charges if your device isn’t connecting.

Is Carnival WiFi Worth It?

Simply put, no. But the real answer depends on you! Carnival WiFi is pricier than what we’re used to at home. Whether it’s worth it depends on your needs.

Is Carnival’s WiFi Ever On Sale Or Discounted?

No, Carnival’s WiFi isn’t on sale or discounted regularly. However, they offer a 15% discount if you purchase the WiFi package before boarding.

How Reliable Is The WiFi Connection Provided By Carnival Cruise?

Carnival Cruise Line claims its WiFi is safe and secure, but its reliability can vary. It’s generally okay for basic tasks, but streaming might not be smooth. Remember that it might not be as secure or consistent as you’re used to at home.

Final Words

Hopefully, you should be clear about the Carnival Cruise WiFi questions.

In conclusion, if you really need internet on a cruise, go with any of the packages depending on your needs. Otherwise, just throw your mobile in a safe and enjoy a cruise vacation.

However, if you’re considering the Carnival WiFi package, buy it before boarding, as it will cost 15% less than onboard pricing.

  • The speed of Carnival’s Wi-Fi service can vary, but the Premium plan offers speeds ranging from 6-12 Mbps. However, web browsing may be sluggish and video and image loading times may be delayed.

Wi-Fi Plans on Carnival

I can choose from three different Wi-Fi plans on Carnival, each with its own limitations and benefits.

The Social Plan allows access to social media sites and airline websites, but no streaming or Wi-Fi calling.

The Value Plan offers email access, broader web access, and faster speeds than the Social Plan, but no video/music streaming or Wi-Fi calling.

The Premium Plan is the highest tier and includes everything in the other plans, with faster speeds and the ability to stream Netflix, but not other services like Hulu.

Wi-Fi coverage and availability on Carnival ships is generally good, but speeds may vary depending on the ship and location. It’s important to note that web browsing may be a bit sluggish, but manageable for checking news or email.

Overall, Carnival offers a range of Wi-Fi plans to suit different needs and preferences.

The prices for Wi-Fi on Carnival vary depending on when and how long you purchase access. Here’s a breakdown of the pricing options and packages available:

Wi-Fi Packages for Longer Cruises:

The Premium plan, which is the highest tier, provides speeds ranging from 6 to 12 Mbps. However, the speed may vary depending on the ship or location.

While web browsing may be slow, it is still possible to access basic internet functions. To improve Wi-Fi speed on Carnival cruises, there are a few tips to keep in mind.

First, try to limit the use of bandwidth-intensive activities like streaming videos or music. Additionally, connecting to the Wi-Fi in less crowded areas of the ship can help improve speed. Finally, consider pre-purchasing the Wi-Fi package to access discounts and ensure a smoother internet experience during the cruise.

Sharing Wi-Fi Access on Carnival

When connecting multiple devices on Carnival, I can share access between them by following the login procedures. It’s a convenient way to save money if I don’t need access on all devices simultaneously. Carnival allows multiple devices to be connected to the Wi-Fi network using a single account, but only one device can be used at a time. To switch devices, I simply confirm the switch during the login process.

However, it’s important to note that Carnival’s Wi-Fi has its limitations. The speed can be sluggish for web browsing, and video thumbnails on YouTube may take a few seconds to load. In comparison to other cruise lines, Carnival offers Wi-Fi availability, but the quality and speed may vary.

An image showcasing a serene cruise ship pool deck, with vibrant sun loungers, sparkling blue water, and a clean, pristine environment

As someone who loves cruising, making sure I stay healthy while aboard is always my top priority.

The recent increase in gastrointestinal illness outbreaks on cruise ships has raised concerns for many passengers, including myself. With six ships already affected this year, it’s crucial to understand the causes and take necessary precautions.

In this article, we will explore the reporting and tracking of gastro illness, the rise in outbreaks, and the CDC’s recommendations for staying healthy on cruises.

Let’s delve into this important topic and ensure we have a safe and enjoyable voyage.

  • Gastrointestinal illness outbreaks on cruise ships have increased as ships have returned, with six ships already showing outbreaks in 2023.
  • Cruise lines are required to report cases of gastro illness before arriving in port, and the CDC posts outbreaks on their website when ships have 3% or more of passengers or crew reporting symptoms.
  • The number of outbreaks decreased in recent years but has increased in 2023, with six different ships already experiencing outbreaks.
  • The CDC recommends washing hands often, leaving the area if someone gets sick, reporting illness to the ship’s medical staff, getting plenty of rest and water if ill, and limiting contact with shared surfaces to stay healthy on cruises.

Understanding Gastrointestinal Illness Outbreaks on Cruise Ships

I’ve learned that outbreaks of gastrointestinal illness on cruise ships have been increasing as ships have returned, with six ships already showing outbreaks on the CDC’s website in 2023. Preventing gastrointestinal illness on cruise ships is crucial to ensure the health and safety of passengers and crew.

Several factors contribute to the increase in gastro illness outbreaks in 2023. One factor is the close proximity of people on cruise ships, which allows illnesses to spread quickly. Additionally, shared spaces such as dining areas and restrooms can become breeding grounds for bacteria and viruses.

It’s important for cruise lines to implement strict hygiene protocols and educate passengers about proper handwashing and sanitation practices. Regular monitoring and reporting of gastro illnesses by health officials also play a vital role in identifying outbreaks early and preventing further spread.

Reporting and Tracking of Gastro Illness on Cruise Ships

When symptoms of gastrointestinal illness are reported by 3% or more of passengers or crew, the CDC updates their website with outbreaks on cruise ships. It is crucial for cruise lines to comply with reporting requirements to ensure the safety of all onboard.

Health officials play a vital role in tracking and monitoring these outbreaks, which enhances the effectiveness of their efforts. By closely monitoring and promptly reporting cases, officials can identify and contain outbreaks more efficiently. This meticulous tracking system allows for quicker intervention and preventive measures to be implemented, minimizing the risk of further spread.

The collaboration between cruise lines and health officials is crucial in maintaining a healthy environment for passengers and crew. Through their dedicated efforts, outbreaks can be identified and managed effectively, ensuring the well-being of everyone onboard.

Increase in Gastro Illness Outbreaks in 2023

In 2023, I’ve noticed a significant increase in the number of gastrointestinal illness outbreaks on cruises. This increase can be attributed to several factors, including the impact of COVID-19 on gastro illness outbreaks on cruise ships.

The pandemic has created a challenging environment for cruise lines, with the need to implement strict health and safety measures to prevent the spread of the virus. However, these measures may have inadvertently contributed to an increase in gastro illness outbreaks.

The close proximity of people and shared spaces on cruise ships makes it easier for illnesses to spread rapidly. Additionally, the return of cruises after a period of suspension may have led to the introduction of new pathogens onboard.

It is crucial for cruise lines to continue implementing rigorous sanitation protocols and for passengers to practice good hygiene to minimize the risk of gastro illness outbreaks.

CDC Recommendations for Staying Healthy on Cruises

To stay healthy on cruises, it’s important to frequently wash hands and report any illness to the medical staff. Cruise ship medical facilities are equipped to handle various health issues that may arise during your voyage. They have trained professionals who can provide medical care and assistance if needed.

Additionally, cruise ship sanitation measures are in place to maintain a clean and hygienic environment onboard. These measures include regular cleaning and disinfection of common areas, cabins, and dining facilities. The crew members also undergo strict hygiene protocols to minimize the risk of illness transmission.

Overall, by following these recommendations and taking advantage of the cruise ship’s medical facilities and sanitation measures, you can ensure a healthy and enjoyable vacation at sea.

Low Risk of Catching Gastro Illness on Cruises

I rarely come down with any illnesses while on vacation. Staying healthy on a cruise ship is important to me, especially when it comes to preventing gastro illness.

Cruise ship hygiene practices play a crucial role in minimizing the risk of outbreaks. The cruise lines are meticulous in their prevention measures. They require passengers and crew to wash their hands frequently, especially before eating and after using the restroom.

Additionally, if someone gets sick, they are advised to leave the area and report their illness to the ship’s medical staff. It’s worth noting that hand sanitizer may not be as effective against norovirus, so handwashing is recommended.

Importance of Handwashing and Hygiene Practices

After learning about the low risk of catching gastro illness on cruises, it’s crucial to understand the importance of handwashing and hygiene practices to stay healthy at sea.

Effective handwashing techniques are essential in preventing the spread of germs and maintaining proper sanitation on cruise ships. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends washing hands often, especially before eating or drinking and after using the restroom. It is crucial to use soap and water and scrub all surfaces of the hands for at least 20 seconds. Hand sanitizer is not as effective against norovirus, so handwashing is strongly recommended.

Steps to Take if Someone Gets Sick on a Cruise Ship

If someone onboard becomes ill, it is important to immediately report their symptoms to the ship’s medical staff. Managing illness on board is crucial for the well-being of everyone on the cruise ship.

Seeking medical assistance ensures that the person receives proper care and prevents the spread of the illness to others. The ship’s medical staff is trained to handle various health issues and can provide the necessary treatment or advice. They will also take the necessary steps to contain the illness and prevent it from spreading further.

Rest and Hydration: Managing Gastro Illness on Board

Seeking medical assistance and prioritizing rest and hydration are essential for managing gastro illness on board. When dealing with symptoms of gastro illness, it’s important to take the following steps:

Managing Symptoms:

Seek medical assistance from the ship’s medical staff as soon as possible.

Follow their instructions regarding medication and treatment.

Practice good hand hygiene by washing your hands frequently with soap and water.

Avoid touching your face, especially your mouth and eyes.

Additional Tips for Staying Healthy on Cruises

I always make sure to wash my hands frequently and avoid touching my face to stay healthy on cruises. Preventing norovirus transmission is a top priority for me, and I take meticulous precautions to ensure my well-being.

One of the most effective ways to prevent the spread of norovirus is through thorough handwashing with soap and water. I scrub my hands for at least 20 seconds, making sure to clean all surfaces, including the fingertips and under the nails.

Additionally, I utilize effective disinfection methods to keep my surroundings clean. I carry disinfecting wipes with me and use them to wipe down frequently touched surfaces, such as door handles and light switches.

These small but important steps help me stay healthy and enjoy my cruise experience to the fullest.

With a secret ingredient and a few tips from the man himself, you’ll be frying up these bad boys like a pro in no time.

Let’s dive in!

  • Rojo Onion Rings are a popular recipe associated with Guy Fieri’s brand
  • The recipe includes ingredients such as canola oil, hot sauce, ketchup, buttermilk, flour, panko breadcrumbs, sweet onions, and sea salt
  • The onion rings are deep-fried until they start to brown and then sprinkled with sea salt before serving
  • The recipe provides a delicious and irresistible addition to any meal or gathering.

The Story Behind Guy Fieri’s Rojo Onion Rings

I love the story behind Guy Fieri’s irresistible Rojo Onion Rings. The inspiration behind the recipe comes from Guy’s partnership with Carnival Cruise Line.

Guy’s creations on Carnival ships have become incredibly popular, with some cruisers even choosing their ship based on the presence of his restaurants. The Rojo Onion Rings are a standout item on the menu and have gained a loyal following.

Carnival guests can’t resist the crispy and flavorful rings that are coated in a delicious blend of Sriracha hot sauce, garlic, ketchup, and water. The onions are soaked in buttermilk, dipped in flour, then the Sriracha mixture, and finally coated in panko breadcrumbs.

Deep-fried to perfection, these onion rings are a crowd favorite and a must-try for anyone sailing on Carnival Cruise Line.

Carnival Cruise Line’s Partnership With Guy Fieri

Carnival Cruise Line’s partnership with Guy Fieri has brought the popular Guys Burger Joint to 14 Carnival ships. This collaboration is a key element of Carnival Cruise Line’s marketing strategy, as it enhances the dining experience for their guests.

The impact of Guy Fieri’s partnership on Carnival’s brand image cannot be understated. The addition of Guys Burger Joint has become a distinguishing feature of Carnival ships, with some cruisers choosing their vacation based on the presence of this eatery.

The mouthwatering burgers served at Guys Burger Joint, smothered in the signature Donkey Sauce, have become wildly popular among passengers. This partnership has not only elevated the culinary options on Carnival ships but has also enhanced the overall perception of the brand, showcasing Carnival Cruise Line’s commitment to providing exceptional dining experiences for their guests.

The Secret Ingredient: Donkey Sauce

Savoring the mouthwatering burgers at Guys Burger Joint, you can’t help but notice the distinct creamy and garlicky flavor of the signature Donkey Sauce. It adds a delightful kick to every bite, enhancing the overall taste experience.

The Donkey Sauce flavor profile can be described as rich, tangy, and slightly spicy, with a hint of sweetness. It perfectly complements the juicy beef patty, crisp lettuce, and melted cheese.

Making donkey sauce at home is surprisingly easy. All you need are roasted garlic, mayonnaise, Worcestershire sauce, hot dog mustard, kosher salt, and black pepper. Simply mix these ingredients together until well combined, and you’ll have your own homemade version of Donkey Sauce.

It’s a game-changer for any burger lover.

Tips for Visiting Guys Burger Joint

When visiting Guys Burger Joint, it’s best to plan your visit either just before the opening hour of 11 a.m. or after 2 p.m. to avoid long lines. As a frequent visitor, I’ve learned that these are the times when the crowds are smaller, and you can enjoy your meal without the wait.

While Guys Burger Joint is known for its mouthwatering burgers, they also have options for vegetarians. Simply request a veggie burger, and the friendly staff will gladly accommodate you. One of my favorite toppings is the SMC sauce, a thickened American cheese sauce with a hint of nutmeg, which adds a delightful creaminess to the burgers.

Exploring the Recipe: Ingredients and Preparation

As I explore the recipe for Rojo Onion Rings, I’m intrigued by the combination of flavors in the Sriracha mixture. The Sriracha hot sauce, garlic, ketchup, and water create a tangy and spicy sauce that will add a unique kick to these crispy onion rings.

What’s great about this recipe is that it offers some healthier alternatives to deep frying. Instead of using traditional deep frying methods, the onion rings are deep-fried for just three minutes until they start to brown. This shorter frying time helps to reduce the amount of oil absorbed by the onions, resulting in a lighter and less greasy dish.

Additionally, the use of panko breadcrumbs instead of traditional breadcrumbs adds a crunchy texture without the need for excessive oil.

With these flavor variations and healthier cooking techniques, these Rojo Onion Rings are sure to be a hit at any gathering.

Perfecting the Technique: Frying the Onion Rings

While perfecting the technique of frying the onion rings, I found that maintaining the oil temperature at 360 degrees F is crucial for achieving a crispy and golden brown exterior. This ensures that the onion rings are cooked evenly and have the perfect texture.

Additionally, I discovered that using a heavy-bottom skillet or deep fryer helps to distribute the heat evenly and prevents the rings from sticking together.

To add a deeper flavor to the onion rings, I experimented with different variations such as adding spices like paprika or cayenne pepper to the flour mixture. Another variation that I tried was dipping the onion rings in a buttermilk and hot sauce mixture before coating them in flour. This added a tangy and spicy kick to the rings, making them even more irresistible.

The Mouthwatering Flavor of Rojo Onion Rings

I couldn’t resist trying the tangy and spicy kick of the onion rings by dipping them in a buttermilk and hot sauce mixture before coating them in flour. The science behind deep frying is fascinating. When the onion rings hit the hot oil, the moisture inside them quickly turns to steam, creating a crispy outer crust while keeping the inside tender. This process, known as Maillard reaction, gives the onion rings their irresistible golden brown color and mouthwatering flavor. As for the history of onion rings, they have been enjoyed for centuries. The exact origin is unclear, but they are believed to have been introduced in the United States in the early 20th century. Today, onion rings are a beloved snack or side dish enjoyed worldwide.

Serving Suggestions for Guy Fieri’s Irresistible Creation

When enjoying Guy Fieri’s mouthwatering creation, consider pairing it with a side of crispy french fries or a refreshing coleslaw for a satisfying meal. Here are some serving suggestions for onion rings:

Dipping Sauces: Enhance the flavor of the crispy onion rings by serving them with a variety of dipping sauces. Try classic options like ketchup, ranch dressing, or barbecue sauce. For a unique twist, experiment with spicy aioli, tangy honey mustard, or creamy chipotle mayo.

Gourmet Toppings: Take your onion rings to the next level by adding gourmet toppings. Sprinkle them with grated Parmesan cheese, drizzle with truffle oil, or top with caramelized onions. You can also crumble crispy bacon or blue cheese on top for a burst of flavor.

Onion Ring Sliders: Instead of using regular burger buns, serve your onion rings as sliders. Place a juicy mini burger patty between two onion rings and add your favorite toppings. This creative twist will make your meal even more delicious.

Onion Ring Tower: Create an impressive onion ring tower by stacking them in a tall pile. This eye-catching presentation is perfect for a party or gathering. Serve it with a variety of dipping sauces and watch as your guests devour this irresistible appetizer.

With these variations of onion ring recipes and serving suggestions, you can elevate your Guy Fieri-inspired meal and delight your taste buds.

Guy Fieri’s influence on Carnival’s dining experience is evident in the delectable flavors and bold creations offered onboard. These onion rings are a testament to that.

Made with sweet onions and coated in a crispy panko breadcrumb batter, they are then deep-fried to golden perfection. The result is a crunchy exterior that gives way to a tender and flavorful onion inside. The rojo sauce, a spicy and tangy blend of Sriracha, ketchup, and garlic, adds an extra kick to every bite.

Carnival cruisers can’t resist the allure of these addictive onion rings, making them a must-try dish on any Carnival ship.

At Guys Burger Joint, vegetarians can request veggie burgers made to order. This ensures that everyone can enjoy a tasty meal onboard.

A Culinary Adventure Onboard: Guy Fieri’s Signature Eateries

After indulging in the mouthwatering barbecue delights at Guy’s Pig & Anchor Bar-B-Que Smokehouse, I couldn’t resist exploring some of Guy Fieri’s other shipboard creations.

What sets these burgers apart is the signature Donkey Sauce – a creamy and garlicky concoction that adds a burst of flavor to every bite. Another must-try is the SMC sauce, a thickened American cheese sauce with a hint of nutmeg.

Whether you’re a burger lover or a vegetarian, Guy Fieri’s eateries offer a culinary adventure that is sure to satisfy your cravings.

  • Only one device at a time can connect to Wi-Fi.
  • Satellite internet speed may vary depending on location and time of day.
  • Access to certain sites such as mature or violent content is blocked.
  • VPN connections are not supported - discuss your VPN limitations with your company’s IT department if you are planning to work while sailing. We are not able to change your settings onboard.

Carnival Cruise WiFi Internet Packages Prices

CruiseMapper logo

Read our review about Carnival cruise Internet Access prices and Carnival Cruise Line's new WiFi rates, unlimited Internet package and WiFi cost. All Carnival Cruise Lines ships provide the Internet via a satellite connection. Onboard access is facilitated through Internet Cafe and shipwide WiFi coverage. Passengers can use (without any restrictions) their personal laptops, iPhones, smartphones and other WiFi-equipped devices on the Fun Ships.

In late-December 2018 was signed a contract with Speedcast (the world's largest global satellite comm provider) to improve fleet connectivity at sea. By this contract, Carnival increased the fleet's bandwidth in order to provide the highest-quality Internet at sea. Utilizing a total of 40 mini-satellites, Carnival now has the world's largest maritime satellite network. Specifically for Carnival, Speedcast developed the TrueBeam system, which constantly looks for weaknesses that would impact the satellite signal and instantly reroutes it to avoid interruptions. Such interruptions could be weather (“rain fade”), overcrowded networks and line-of-sight blockage.

Carnival cruise WiFi rates, Unlimited Internet

Carnival ship's Wireless Internet Service is a Wireless 802.11b card compatible (standard). Onboard, VPN access is restricted to connections of types different then IPsec or PPTP connections.

Unlimited Internet package

Since July 2015, Carnival offers “massively popular, faster, cheaper and all-round brilliant Internet packages” that initially cost just US$5 per day. The “Social” Internet plan allows connecting only to social networks - Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Snapchat and other similar websites. Discounted plans are available for the entire voyage.

  • Carnival's unlimited Internet access plans (connected 24/7) are now available fleetwide. These plans can be used on all personal devices (and the ship's Internet Cafe) anytime throughout the voyage - until debarkation. Once purchased there are no refunds.
  • In May 2016, Carnival Australia introduced faster and cheaper Internet and social media Internet packages on the Australia-based ships Legend and Spirit . The improved internet access offers increased bandwidth and speed. The “value package” (cost AUD 30 per day) offers unlimited Internet. The faster “premium package” (cost AUD 50 per day) allows Skype video calls. The new "social media package" (cost AUD 15 per day) offers unlimited access to Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter.
  • Additional discounted plans for Internet access are available for the entire voyage. The new packages follow the company's 2015-launched "Selfies at Sea" phone app. Available for download (free of charge) at Android and Apple stores, the new mobile app collates a series of photos taken on the ship into a mini-movie which can be shared on social media channels.

NEW Carnival cruise ship Wi-Fi plans

In 2017, Carnival updated the cruise ship WiFi service fleetwide, introducing the option to pre-purchase both WiFi and Internet packages online.

Starting April 19, 2017, the company offers pre-purchasing internet plans (first introduced on Carnival Fascination and Carnival Vista , fleetwide rollout by mid-summer 2017). The option is available via "Manage My Booking’ (tab at Carnival.com) where customers can select a package for the itinerary duration.

Carnival's new Wi-Fi plans can be purchased (at discounted rates) by fully booked customers for either the entire itinerary or for a day (24-hour period). Daily packages are also available for shipboard purchasing.

In December 2023, CCL increased the Social Plan's onboard price from US$15 to $18 per person per day. The Value Plan now costs US$23 (up from $20), while the Premium Plan is priced at US$25 (from $22).

With pPre-purchasing Wi-Fi prior to boarding, the Social Plan costs $15.30 (previously $12.75), the Value Plan costs US$19.55 (up from $17), and the Premium Plan costs US$21.25 (up from $18.70).

NOTE : On November 2, 2018, Carnival raised the price of its basic internet plan by 60%. The new price for the "social media package" was US$8 per day ($6,80 per day if pre-purchased prior departure). Day plans for this package are not available - must be purchased cruise-long package. The old price for the social media package was US$5 per day ($4 per day if pre-purchased).

WiFi package cost USD 12 per day, with a discount price of US$10,25 (if pre-purchased prior departure). Premium WiFi package cost USD 17.70 per day ($14,88 if pre-purchased).

For both WiFi plans are available 24-hour / daily rates, respectively, $16 and $25.

  • "Social Package" (cost US$8 per day) offers access to the most popular applications and websites, including Facebook (and Facebook Messenger), Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, Linkedin, WhatsApp, plus the most popular airline websites. The Social plan doesn't include Snapchat, Facetime, iMessage, in-app calling or access to any other apps or websites.
  • "Value Package" (cost US$12 per day, or US$10.25 if pre-purchased) offers access to all websites and apps, including e-mail, news, banking, sports, weather, all social media. The Value plan doesn't support music and video streaming or Skype calling (bandwidth-intensive services).
  • "Premium Package (cost US$17.70 per day, or US$14.88 if pre-purchased) offers the fastest possible Internet connection. Depending on the coverage, speeds can be up to 3 times faster compared to the "Value Package". The Premium plan includes all apps and websites, plus streaming services and Skype video calling.

Booked passengers can upgrade from one plan to another and are also allowed to use multiple devices per plan (including the ship's onboard computers), but only on one device at a time. All the new Carnival WiFi plans do not include video streaming (Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime) and don't support WiFi Calling (voice calls via the ship's Wi-Fi network) and Facetime (Apple's video telephony) services. Printing services on the ship are provided at no charge.

Cruise Internet package prices

Note: The above-listed Internet package plans are currently offered not on all ships in the fleet, but only on Dream, Glory, and Magic. The Breeze was excluded from this indeed small list. The line's official excuse is the slow satellite connection speeds at sea.

Carnival cruise Internet cost-cutting tips

  • before the sailing convert your email settings to basic (less graphic intense)
  • if you're planning to work online while sailing, discuss VPN limitations with your firm's IT specialist (Carnival will not be able to change settings onboard).
  • packing checklist: WiFi-enabled laptop/mobile devices, power supply (for each of your devices), data cables, headphones.
  • You can connect to a free WiFi when the ship is at call ports - ask some from the crew where. There's also free WiFi on the ship, but it's relatively slow (public areas offer much better connection / stronger signals than cabins).
  • phone calls from a Carnival ship cost $2 per minute (the charge through "Cellular at Sea" is $2,50 per minute). And remember:
  • 1 - the satellite Internet is a lot slower than the high-speed connection onshore (your data must be transmitted over a slow signal to a satellite 22000 ml above you, then the satellite bounces your data back down to the exchange). Tip: the onboard Internet speed is much better in the early morning (5 to 8 AM) and also around dinner times (6 to 10 PM).
  • 2 - the onboard Internet access is not guaranteed at all times (satellite communications are subject to disruptions due to weather patterns/location)
  • 3 - (some excerpts from forum reviews) "extremely slow", "slower than dial-up", "minutes are eaten pretty quickly", "because of the connection sometimes not everything is sent".
  • 4 - Verizon text message prices on cruise ships (international messaging): sent ($0,25 text, $0,50 data) and received ($0,20 text & $0,25 data).

Carnival's WiFi Internet technology

The line's owner Carnival Corporation started rolling out the WiFi@Sea Internet across technology not exclusively to Carnival Cruise Lines ships, but to all its brand lines fleets. The new technology features a hybrid connectivity (satellite and land-based data) system. It combines bandwidth with several available for pre-purchasing Internet plans, different levels of pricing and also new Internet packages.

The process of implementing the new system started in 2014. Carnival Corp's largest brand - the Carnival cruise line - was the first that moved from the traditional pay-as-you-go Internet (USD 0,75 per minute, or discounted Internet packages) to pay-per-day packages. The cheapest is the "social" package priced US$5 per-day allowing access to popular websites and apps. Next is the "value" package US$16 per day (with restrictions for some intensive websites). The third "premium" package costs US$25 per day (with full web access and guaranteed fast speeds).

The new Carnival "cruise WiFi" system is first-of-its-kind in the passenger shipping industry It's an enhanced (high-speed) hybrid wireless network service to be rolled out to all ships in the fleets of all 9 Carnival brand lines. The new system is expected to encourage the interest in ship cruising among the new tech-savvy generation. The new plans already show better penetration and higher usage rates. The new system allows a greater number of mobile devices, while the new Internet pricing is easier to understand.

This unique system integrates land-based, strategically located antennas (installed along the cruise itinerary routes), advanced satellites (over 31 satellite systems) and cruise port Wi-Fi connections, forming the Carnival's "smart hybrid" network. The system gives cruise passengers the highest possible strength of signal and bandwidth capacity. The new network provides Internet connectivity speeds 10 times faster than previously offered by Carnival.

All system upgrades, hardware changes, and new Internet equipment installations were done during the ships' dry-dock refurbishments .

In February 2018, Carnival Corporation partnered with SES Networks to provide the industry's biggest bandwidth to a mobile shipboard platform (first introduced on Regal Princess ). The new technology broke all previous myths about connectivity limitations at sea. The fastest cruise ship internet remained affordable (priced at USD 10 per day). The technology combines the SES Networks satellites with the MedallionNet and provides bandwidth of minimum 1,5 gigabits per second to the vessel. The tests were done on February 26, 2018, while Regal Princess was docked at the private island Princess Cays Bahamas . During the tests was reached Internet speed of 2,6 gigabits per second. Regal Princess is one of the "Medallion-class" Carnival Corporation ships linked to the company's MedallionNet.

Carnival cruise ship Internet Cafe

The Internet Cafe is open 24-hours, as a venue, it features private PC terminals (Windows XP) for web browsing, chat, and e-mail services. For guests convenience, there is an Internet Cafe Manager for assistance. Here passengers can browse through the following Carnival's "free of charge websites": Carnival.com, GoCCL.com, JohnHealdsBlog.com, CellularAtSea.com, and BarclayCardus.com (Carnival World MasterCard).

All these websites can be accessed without purchasing an Internet plan. At the PC terminals, you can't edit MS Office documents, but most files can be viewed (in their "read-only" mode).

Carnival WIFI, Fun Hub website and HUB app

The Fun Hub Carnival website can be accessed through Wi-Fi enabled devices. Guests must connect to the Carnival WiFi network and open an Internet browser. Fun Hub is also accessible at the complimentary Internet café locations with 24-hour access. Currently available on Carnival Breeze, Dream, Magic, Sunshine and Vista, the Fun Hub locations allow passengers free access to informative websites updated daily.

The Fun Hub site details ship’s numerous activities, including:

  • daily events, youth programs, entertainment options
  • food and beverage offerings, venue descriptions, sample menus
  • itinerary and weather information
  • latest news, sports scores
  • key shipboard personnel' biographies
  • ship announcements
  • deck plans and maps
  • frequently asked questions.

A filtering option assists in planning guests' day. FunHub is available free of charge on any Internet Café Fun Hub computer or Wi-Fi device. Internet access to sites that are outside the Fun Hub is also available wirelessly and through all Fun Hub locations. Charges will apply.

In August 2015, Carnival announced that the HUB app, offering passengers free access to onboard account balances, daily schedules, deck plans, dining info, and an innovative “chat” feature, had been so well received (following the successful trial period on Carnival Breeze) that it was scheduled to debut on all Carnival vessels by summer of 2016. Next in line, ready to welcome the HUB app, are Carnival Conquest, Carnival Glory, Carnival Pride, and Carnival Sunshine, by the end of 2015.

The new HUB mobile app provides guests with an at-a-glance, convenient view of ship’s features and facilities along with updates on events taking place onboard, all free of charge. The app is available for download at Google Play Store and Apple App Store. Its innovative “chat” feature allows passengers to exchange messages with their companions using their mobile devices. A flat fee of $5 is applied for the entire cruise.

The HUB app also includes precise day-by-day schedules of hundreds of onboard events, info on beverage and food venues, Sail & Sign account balance, itinerary details, searchable deck plans and more. Recently added options provide the ability to pre-purchase Carnival’s Bottomless Bubbles and Cheers! beverage programs and upload photos displayed on the 270-sq.foot Seaside Theatre during the cruise. Additional features are to be added in the future.

Carnival Corporation launched a new WiFi@Sea system on all cruise ships sailing in the Caribbean. The global fleet roll-out continued with Alaska (2015 summer) and in 2016 extended to Europe (Baltic, Mediterranean, Western Europe) and Asia.

At the following CruiseMapper link, you can compare the onboard Internet package pricing on Royal Caribbean and NCL vessels.

Carnival Cruise Line WiFi Prices and Plans Detailed

Picture of Doug Parker

Doug Parker

  • July 10, 2018

The folks at Carnival Cruise Line know that many passengers need the internet, whether on vacation or not.

It might be great if we could all disconnect when we set sail, but some of us can’t… and most of us won’t. So, every ship in the fleet is outfitted with wireless internet, which can be purchased.

But how much will it cost and what are the various packages? That’s what nearly every cruiser wants to know, and that’s what we’re here today to answer.

carnival cruise wifi plans

When the internet was first rolled out on cruise ships in the early 2000s, guests had to go to a workstation — usually, a bank of computers set just off the atrium — in order to access the web.

Back then, there was almost always a full-time employee of the satellite company, which provided internet access to assist you with getting online and any billing discrepancies.

READ MORE: 11 Reasons to Download Carnival’s Hub App

These days, connecting to the internet is far simpler, and it’s almost hard to imagine a time when we couldn’t just pop open our laptop on the balcony of our stateroom and check our email or use our smartphone to make everyone back home jealous with a few great selfies.

So let’s dive in and discuss what you need to know about accessing the web — and how much it will cost — during your next cruise on a Carnival ship.

Note: This article was originally published in July 2018. It was updated in December 2023.

Carnival Cruise Internet Pricing and Packages

Carnival cruise line ship

There are three different internet packages for you to choose from while onboard. Which one is best for you will depend entirely on what you’re looking to do. Some people just want to check Facebook and send out tweets, while others want to watch movies or Skype with the office.

Remember that all internet plans are offered at a reduced rate if you purchase them before your cruise. In order to do so, all you need to do is sign onto your account at Carnival.com and click on the Cruise Manager page.

You can also head to Carnival.com/FunShops and find information on internet packages there. If you’d rather wait to buy until you’re on board — which will cost you more than you’ll pay if you pre-purchase — you can do so through the HUB app.

As we discuss the various programs and pricing options, note that all prices are listed in US dollars. The pricing we discuss here will be the pre-cruise cost.

Breakdown of Carnival WiFi Plans

As of December 8, 2023, the Social Plan is $15.30 per day, allowing unlimited access to the most popular social networking sites. This is for people who want to use Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Messenger, Snapchat, LinkedIn, WhatsApp, and similar websites/apps.

You’re also able to access airline apps to check in for your flight. Some of the airline applications currently supported are American, Delta, Southwest, United, Spirit, Southwest, Air Canada, Allegiant, Hawaii Airlines, and West Jet.

This plan is good for the basic internet user. It can be used on multiple devices, but only by signing out on one before signing in on another. But if little Johnny and Susie are both going to want to be on their phones at the same time, you’ll need separate plans.

As of December 8, 2023, the Value Plan is $19.95 per day and gives you access to all the social sites mentioned above, plus email, online banking, news, lifestyle, sports, and weather websites. Neither the value nor social plans provide access to streaming of any kind.

This plan is good for the moderate internet user looking to stay connected via social media while also perusing the web.

The Premium Plan starts at $21.25 per day and offers social and value plans and internet streaming. Carnival boasts that this plan is three times faster than the value plan and lets you use Skype, Zoom, and Teams video calling.

I’ve also used Facebook Video and FaceTime with this plan, and it worked well when not many people were on. 11 p.m. to 8 a.m. seemed the optimal time for video streaming. This plan is a good choice for someone who needs to be fully connected or has to work on vacation.

How strong a signal you get on the various plans can vary greatly from ship to ship. For instance, Carnival Vista and Carnival Horizon have upgraded bandwidth to allow more people to surf and stream video.

When I sailed Carnival Magic in early 2018, the WiFi was awful. Even on the Premium Plan, it was pulling only around .04 Mbps. (For those of you who aren’t technically minded, suffice it to say it was really slow.)

All about the Carnival HUB App

carnival hub app

In 2015, Carnival Cruise Line launched the HUB app, which allowed guests to get online and do basic things like read an electronic version of the Fun Times, check their account balance, and see what the weather was like in their ports of call.

Now, however, the functionality of the app has been vastly approved, allowing guests to do things such as:

  • Complete cruise check-in
  • Begin the mandatory muster drill
  • Order food for delivery to most spots on the ship
  • Read restaurant menus and make dining reservations
  • View ship maps
  • Chat with cruise companions
  • Purchase things such as shore excursions, drink packages, and wifi packages

READ MORE: Review: Does Carnival Mardi Gras Live Up To The Hype?

The app is currently available to download from the Google Play Store and iTunes. It is suggested that guests download the app before they get on the ship in order to avoid being charged huge fees by their cell phone service provider during their sailing.

Passengers do not need to purchase internet to use the app.

How fast is the internet?

Carnival Horizon speed test

Right off the bat, know this: the cruise ship is receiving the internet signal via satellite. What does that mean? Well, the ship is constantly moving, so the signal is being transmitted to a moving target.

How fast the internet is while you’re on board will depend on several factors, including the ship’s itinerary, how many of your fellow passengers are also trying to access the signal, and — perhaps most importantly — which plan you purchased.

It’s safe to say that you won’t usually enjoy the same internet speeds you have back home. (Unless, of course, you have a crappy provider back home.)

However, if you’re trying to do everyday things like check Facebook, send an email (without a lot of attachments), or load a weather app, you’ll be fine. Heavier-loading websites and smartphone apps may require a bit of patience.

Can I call home?

If you have the Premium Plan, you will be able to call home using a voice or video app such as FaceTime audio, Skype, or WhatsApp. If your phone has a WiFi-enabled calling and texting feature, you can also use that if you have purchased the Premium Plan.

I use T-Mobile, and the first thing I do when I get onto the ship is put my phone on airplane mode.

I then turn on the T-Mobile WiFi so that when my phone is connected to the ship’s internet system, it will essentially function as a regular phone. WiFi calling does not use cell phone data, merely the internet. AT&T also offers WiFi calling.

Carnival WiFi Tips and Tricks

  • Purchase the plan before you leave to save money (around 15%).
  • Each plan will allow you to use as many devices as you like, but only one at a time. So, if several people share the plan, only one can be logged onto a device at any time.
  • If you go to log in and someone else is already on the plan, it will ask you if you’d like to kick them off in order to gain access. On the plus side, if Mom or Dad wants to use the internet, they can easily boot their Twitter-obsessed kids off.
  • The website says that streaming services such as Netflix and Spotify aren’t able to be accessed, but I was able to use Amazon Music during my workouts without any issues.
  • If you figure a cruise is the perfect time to binge-watch something from Netflix, download the series before you leave home. Even if, by some chance, you were able to get it to work on board, the streaming would be as slow as molasses.
  • The $5 chat feature is a super-affordable way to stay connected with your travel companions during the cruise. You can purchase it once you’re onboard, and it will be billed directly to your Sail & Sign account.
  • If you’re having internet issues of any kind, take your device to guest services and dispute the charges. They’ll usually refund your money if you can prove that your device is not connecting.

Types of Internet Plans Available and Cost

So you’re sold on the idea of staying connected while you sail, but what are your options? Carnival Cruise offers a range of Wi-Fi packages to cater to various needs, from the social media enthusiast to the Netflix binger. Let’s dive into these plans:

Social Plan

Priced at $12.75 per day if pre-purchased and $15 per day onboard, this plan is ideal for those who want to stay updated on social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, and Snapchat. However, this plan restricts access to most websites and doesn’t support video/music streaming or Wi-Fi calling.

Coming in at $17 per day when bought in advance and $20 per day onboard, the Value Plan offers a step-up. Besides social media, you’ll have email access and broader web capabilities. Yet, keep in mind that music and video streaming services aren’t included.

Premium Plan

The crème de la crème of Carnival’s internet plans, the Premium Plan costs $18.70 per day if purchased before your cruise and $22 per day onboard. This offers all the perks of the lower-tier plans but with faster speeds and the addition of Netflix streaming.

Whether you’re on the Carnival Sunrise for leisure or a business cruise , you can find a package that fits your connectivity needs. Love posting real-time updates of your travels? The Social Plan might suffice. Need to manage work emails and other professional tasks? Consider the Value Plan. Want the ultimate web access experience? The Premium Plan is your go-to.

Cost Breakdown and Promotions

cost of wifi on carnival cruise

Prices have gone up significantly in the last year. Before May 2022, Wi-Fi packages started at a mere $6.80 per day. Now, the starting rate has nearly doubled to $12.75 per day . Typically, you’ll pay for the entire duration of the cruise, a change from the past when you could buy Wi-Fi for specific days only.

Special Offer : You can avail of a 15% discount if you pre-purchase your Wi-Fi package, which is certainly worth considering to save some bucks.

Additional Considerations: If you’re sailing to ports with 4G or 5G capabilities, you might want to weigh the pros and cons of purchasing a Wi-Fi package , especially if your mobile data plan covers these areas. Sometimes, Wi-Fi might only be necessary for those sea days when mobile connectivity is limited.

Internet Speed and Reliability

internet speed of wifi on a carnival cruise

Wondering if the Wi-Fi on a Carnival Cruise can keep up with your digital needs? Let’s explore what you can expect when it comes to internet speed and reliability on the ship.

Based on multiple tests, the Premium Plan of Carnival Cruise’s WiFi service has generally exhibited speeds ranging between 6-12 Mbps . In terms of the user experience, these numbers translate to relatively decent download speeds, especially considering that you’re in the middle of the ocean!

During our test run, the speed metrics displayed a ping of 680 ms , a download speed of 9.09 Mbps , and an upload speed of 2.64 Mbps . These figures indicate a high latency rate but acceptable download and upload rates.

It is important to manage your expectations appropriately. While the speeds are fairly good for a cruise ship setting, don’t expect the same kind of blazing-fast service you might have at home or the office. Pages will load, but they might take a moment. For example, visiting YouTube took around 10 seconds for video thumbnails to appear, while text headlines on CNN.com loaded relatively quickly, although images were delayed.

It is important to note that the internet speed may vary throughout the ship and during the cruise. We’ve experienced variations depending on the location and even on different ships within the Carnival fleet. This means you might find the connection to be sluggish at times.

Real-world limitations come into play as well. For instance, if you’re planning on posting high-resolution images or live blogging, be prepared for a bit of a wait. The speed is adequate, but it’s not high-speed broadband. The WiFi service aboard a Carnival Cruise is reliable enough for basic tasks and some moderate digital activity, but it does have its limitations. During your cruise, the service available for staying connected should meet your needs. If you have more demanding internet needs, it would be wise to plan accordingly.

How to Purchase an Internet Plan on a Carnival Cruise?

So, you’ve decided you can’t be completely off the grid while cruising. No worries—Carnival Cruise offers various internet packages to keep you connected. But what is the process for purchasing one?

Before Your Cruise

purchase carnival cruise wifi package before your sail

The most convenient time to secure your WiFi package is before you set sail . Here’s how to do it:

  • Visit the official Carnival Cruise website at `carnival.com`.
  • Go to the ‘Manage’ section located at the top part of the webpage.
  • Click on ‘My Booking’ to access your reservation details.
  • From there, you’ll see options to purchase an internet package.

The window to pre-purchase closes at midnight Eastern Time on the day before your cruise departure. Planning ahead offers you the benefit of securing your digital needs in advance.

Onboard Your Cruise

Missed the pre-booking window? No problem—you can still get connected onboard. Once you’re on the ship:

  • Turn on the WiFi on your device.
  • Open your device’s WiFi settings.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to purchase your desired internet package.

How to Use the Internet Plan on the Carnival Cruise?

So you’re finally on board, settled in, and now you’re itching to connect to the world beyond the waves. But how exactly do you get online? No worries, the process is usually a breeze, albeit with an occasional hiccup or two. Here’s how to navigate the digital sea on your Carnival cruise .

  • Initially, navigate to the Wi-Fi settings on your device and look for the vessel’s network. It will typically be named something related to the ship, like “Carnival Vista Wi-Fi” or “Carnival Celebration Wi-Fi.”
  • Next, open your web browser and head straight to CarnivalWiFi.com .
  • You’ll be prompted to enter your folio number and birthdate. So go ahead, type them in and click “Log In.”
  • A confirmation screen will appear. Click “Confirm,” and voila! You should now be connected and free to surf the web, check your emails, or update your social media.

It might take a couple of attempts sometimes, but don’t let that discourage you. Remember, you’re connecting from the middle of the ocean; a minor hiccup is a small price for such convenience.

And there you have it—your simple guide to getting online with Carnival’s internet plans . So whether you’re on board the Carnival Sunrise or any other ships in the fleet, staying connected has never been easier.

How Many Devices Can Connect to a Single Internet Package on a Carnival Cruise Ship?

number of devices connected to wifi on Carnival Cruise

When it comes to device connectivity on a Carnival Cruise, there’s a one-device rule , but it comes with flexibility. Your internet package allows connectivity for just one device simultaneously. However, the service isn’t locked to that particular device.

What does this mean? Well, suppose you start your day responding to work emails on your laptop in the comfort of your cabin. After sorting that out, you may choose to explore the various areas of the vessel. You can easily switch your WiFi access from your laptop to your smartphone on the carnival website. It’s that simple—just not simultaneous.

This feature can be especially handy if you want to juggle between devices for different activities, like work and leisure, throughout the day. It gives you the freedom to choose which device you’d like to use without being tethered to just one.

Is the Wi-Fi Service on Carnival Cruises Worth the Investment?

Determining whether the WiFi service on a Carnival Cruise is worth the investment can be subjective, as it largely depends on your specific needs and expectations. If you’re someone who needs to be connected for work, or if staying in touch with family and friends is a priority, then the investment is likely a no-brainer.

The flexibility to switch between devices adds a layer of convenience, and the different plans accommodate varying degrees of internet use, from social media browsing to video streaming. Nonetheless, it’s important to be aware that the internet speed and reliability may not match what you’re accustomed to with your home broadband.

For casual users or those who look forward to unplugging during their vacation, investing in a WiFi package might not hold the same value. Also, remember that many ports offer 4G or 5G data plans , which could be a cost-effective alternative to onboard WiFi, at least for the days when the ship is docked.

So, is it worth it? The answer will vary from person to person, but these insights should help you make a more informed decision.

Tips and Tricks for Using the Internet in a Carnival Cruise

If you’re looking to make internet access on a cruise less challenging, there are some helpful tips you can follow.

When to Purchase : To nab the best deals, buy your internet package before you board . Usually, booking ahead could net you a discount of up to 15%.

Using Free WiFi : Always on the hunt for freebies? Most ports have cafes or terminals offering free WiFi. Save your package for when you’re out at sea.

Switch to Airplane Mode : This is a must-do as soon as you board. It prevents your phone from using satellite signals, which can be very costly.

Avoid Mobile Data : Even if you have a roaming plan, the charges can skyrocket on a cruise. Stick to the WiFi package you’ve purchased.

Internet Cafes : Ships usually have internet cafes where you can access the web, often at a lower rate than the WiFi package.

By incorporating these tips, you can stay connected without breaking the bank.

How Fast is the Internet on Carnival Cruise Ships?

Woman on a cruise ship using her phone to take a photo of the sunset

In 2023, Carnival Cruise Line added Starlink internet service across their fleet. Starlink is the internet service offered by SpaceX. The service uses low-earth orbit satellites instead of the previous mid-earth and geosynchronous ones. The service promises lower latency and faster internet speeds.

We put the Carnival Cruise Line’s premium WiFi plan to the test.

During a cruise on Carnival’s Mardi Gras cruise ship , I ran multiple speed tests throughout the 7-night sailing while using the Premium WiFi Plan. I average 83.1Mbps download speeds and 3.28Mbps upload speeds .

In other words, Carnival’s internet is very fast.

Sending emails, checking the news, and basic web browsing is a breeze. I could watch YouTube videos and stream movies on Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Disney Plus without issues.

How to Access Carnival Cruise Internet Plans

Accessing the internet aboard the Carnival cruise ship is a smooth process. Here’s how you can get online:

  • Start by selecting the WiFi network of the ship on your device. It’s usually named after the ship, like “Carnival Celebration WiFi.”
  • Launch any web browser and navigate to “CarnivalWiFi.com.”
  • You’ll need to enter your folio number and birthdate for verification. Once entered, click on the “Log In” button.
  • A confirmation screen will appear. Click “Confirm” to proceed.

Once these steps are completed, you should be successfully connected to the internet. Enjoy browsing just as you would on a regular land-based connection.

Do I Have to Buy the Internet Package for Every Device? Can I Share My Internet Plan?

Purchasing Carnival’s internet access for the whole family can become costly. However, a cost-effective workaround allows multiple devices to share a single internet plan.

Carnival Cruise Line offers the flexibility of using one internet package across several devices , though only one device can be connected at a time.

Imagine one person using the WiFi on their smartphone. Once done, another person can utilize the same internet access on their laptop. This sharing strategy efficiently reduces expenses. But it only works if you don’t require a constant WiFi connection during your cruise.

The switching process is straightforward. Connect the new device to the ship’s WiFi network. You’ll receive a prompt asking if you want to switch devices . Selecting “confirm,” the new device will be connected to the WiFi.

It’s important to remember that confirming this switch will automatically disconnect the previous device from the internet. This feature can be particularly useful for parents wanting to limit their children’s screen time, helping everyone enjoy the vacation experience more fully.

Is Carnival’s WiFi Worth It?

Carnival’s WiFi is worth it if you need to stay connected on your cruise vacation.

Choose the Social package or Value plan if you want to browse social media and post the occasional vacation photo.

You can save money using free WiFi at the ports of call. But public WiFi is less secure than the cruise ship’s internet service.

The most significant benefit of Carnival Cruise’s internet plans is sharing internet access with your travel buddies. On our last trip, we saved more than $145 by sharing the Carnival WiFi packages between two people.

The internet plan was well worth the price because we could all use and share internet access.

Here are some streamlined tips for using the Internet on a Carnival cruise:

  • Pre-Purchase WiFi Plan for Savings : Buy your WiFi plan before your cruise to enjoy a 15% discount. Prices are higher once you’re on the ship.
  • Shared Access on Multiple Devices : The plan allows internet access on multiple devices, but only one device can be connected at a time. It’s a great way to save money on your Carnival cruise.
  • Switch Users Without Disrupting Others : If you try to log in while the plan is in use, you’ll get a prompt asking if you want to disconnect the current user. This feature ensures you don’t interrupt someone else’s session, like a video call. It’s also useful if you want to manage your kids’ internet usage.
  • Download Entertainment Beforehand : For a better viewing experience, download movies and TV shows before your cruise. Streaming services like Netflix may have slow loading times and reduced video quality on the ship.
  • Assistance with Internet Issues : If you encounter any difficulties with your internet connection, guest services are available to assist in connecting your device.
  • Avoid Roaming Charges : Keep your phone on airplane mode while using WiFi to prevent roaming charges on your cruise vacation .

So whether you want to keep up with work emails, share amazing vacation photos on social media, or simply stay connected with loved ones, let’s dive in and discover how you can get internet on your Carnival Cruise adventure.

Understanding Carnival Cruise’s Internet Options and Limitations

When it comes to getting internet on Carnival Cruise, it’s important to understand the available options and the limitations that may come with them. Carnival Cruise offers different internet packages that cater to various needs, so you can choose the option that best suits your requirements.

One of the internet options available on Carnival Cruise is the “Social” package. This package allows you to access popular social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. It is a great choice if you primarily want to stay connected with friends and family through social media updates.

Another option is the “Value” package, which provides internet access for general web browsing, email, and access to select messaging apps. This package is suitable for those who need more extensive internet use beyond social media.

If you require a higher level of internet access for activities such as video streaming or online gaming, the “Premium” package is the ideal choice. With faster speeds and more bandwidth, this package allows for a more seamless online experience.

While Carnival Cruise offers internet access, it’s important to note that there may be limitations and differences compared to land-based internet. For instance, the internet speed may not be as fast as what you are accustomed to on land, due to the limitations presented by being at sea.

Additionally, it’s worth mentioning that internet costs on Carnival Cruise are not included in the base fare. You will need to purchase an internet package separately. The pricing may vary depending on the package you choose and the duration of your cruise. It’s recommended to check Carnival Cruise’s website or contact their customer service for the most up-to-date pricing information.

Now that you have an understanding of the available internet options and the limitations associated with it, let’s move on to the next step: checking if your Carnival Cruise ship offers internet access.

Checking if Your Carnival Cruise Ship Offers Internet Access

Before getting excited about using the internet on your Carnival Cruise, it’s essential to verify if your specific ship offers internet access. While most Carnival Cruise ships now provide internet services, it’s always wise to double-check to avoid any disappointment.

The easiest way to check if your Carnival Cruise ship offers internet access is by visiting the official Carnival Cruise website. Navigate to the “Onboard Experience” or “Internet & Wi-Fi” section, where you will find information about the availability of internet services on each ship. You can also find details regarding the internet packages offered and their respective costs.

Alternatively, you can contact Carnival Cruise’s customer service directly and inquire about the internet access options available on your specific ship. The customer service team will be happy to assist you and provide the necessary information.

It’s worth noting that while most ships offer internet access, it is possible that some older vessels may have limited or no connectivity options. Therefore, it’s always best to confirm before boarding your Carnival Cruise ship.

Once you have confirmed that your ship offers internet access, you can begin preparing your devices to ensure a smooth internet experience while sailing the high seas. Let’s dive into the next section to learn how to get your devices ready for internet use on Carnival Cruise.

Preparing Your Devices for Internet Access on Carnival Cruise

Before you embark on your Carnival Cruise adventure, it’s essential to prepare your devices for internet access. Taking a few simple steps will help ensure a seamless and enjoyable online experience while on board.

1. Update your devices: Before setting sail, make sure your smartphones, tablets, laptops, and other devices are running on the latest software updates. Updates often include security patches and bug fixes, which can enhance your device’s performance and protect it from potential vulnerabilities.

2. Check compatibility: Verify that your devices are compatible with the ship’s internet network. Carnival Cruise primarily offers Wi-Fi for internet access. Ensure that your devices have Wi-Fi capabilities and can connect to the ship’s network. You may also want to check if any specific configuration or settings are required for connection.

3. Install necessary apps: If you plan to use specific apps that require internet access, it’s a good idea to install them before boarding the ship. Popular communication apps like WhatsApp, Skype, or FaceTime are examples. Additionally, consider downloading any entertainment apps, such as streaming platforms or e-book readers, for offline use during your cruise.

4. Bring the right cables and adapters: Ensure you have the necessary cables and adapters to connect your devices to power outlets and any available Ethernet ports if required. Some cruise ships provide Ethernet connections in certain areas for a more stable internet connection.

5. Secure your devices: Protect your devices by enabling passcodes, PINs, or biometric authentication. It’s also a good idea to install security software to safeguard against potential threats while connected to the internet.

By completing these preparations, you’ll be ready to make the most of the internet offerings on your Carnival Cruise. The next section will guide you through the process of purchasing and activating an internet package.

Purchasing and Activating an Internet Package on Carnival Cruise

Once you have confirmed that your Carnival Cruise ship offers internet access and prepared your devices, it’s time to purchase and activate an internet package. Carnival Cruise offers convenient options for purchasing internet packages, ensuring that you stay connected throughout your cruise.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to purchasing and activating an internet package on Carnival Cruise:

  • Access the Carnival Cruise website or use the ship’s onboard internet portal: You can browse the available internet packages and their pricing online. Alternatively, you can access the ship’s onboard internet portal, usually available once you are on board the ship.
  • Select the appropriate internet package: Depending on your needs, choose the internet package that best suits your requirements and budget. Take into consideration the package type (Social, Value, Premium) and the duration of your cruise when making your selection.
  • Complete the purchase: Follow the prompts to complete the purchase of your chosen internet package. You may be required to enter your booking information and provide payment details. Carnival Cruise accepts various payment methods, including credit/debit cards.
  • Receive confirmation and activation instructions: After purchasing the internet package, you will receive a confirmation email or notification. This email will include specific instructions on how to activate the package once you are on board the ship.
  • Activate the internet package upon boarding: Once you board the ship, follow the activation instructions provided in the email. This may involve connecting to the ship’s Wi-Fi network and logging in with your credentials. Activation is typically a straightforward process, but if you encounter any issues, don’t hesitate to seek assistance from the ship’s internet help desk.

It’s important to note that while some Carnival Cruise ships offer the option to purchase internet packages in advance, others may require you to purchase them once you are on board.

By following these steps, you’ll be able to purchase and activate an internet package, ensuring that you stay connected while enjoying your Carnival Cruise vacation. Next, let’s explore how you can connect to the internet once the package is active.

Connecting to the Internet on Carnival Cruise

Now that you have purchased and activated your internet package on Carnival Cruise, it’s time to connect to the internet and start enjoying the online world while sailing the high seas. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you connect:

  • Enable Wi-Fi: Ensure that Wi-Fi is enabled on your device by going to the settings menu. Look for the Wi-Fi option and toggle it on.
  • Select the Carnival Cruise Wi-Fi network: Once Wi-Fi is enabled, you should see a list of available networks. Look for the Carnival Cruise Wi-Fi network name and select it.
  • Open your web browser: After connecting to the Carnival Cruise Wi-Fi network, open your web browser. It will redirect you to the ship’s internet login page.
  • Login to the internet: On the ship’s internet login page, enter your login credentials that you received upon purchasing and activating your internet package. This may include your cabin number or booking ID and a password.
  • Agree to the terms and conditions: After logging in, you may be prompted to agree to the terms and conditions of using the ship’s internet. Read through them, and if you agree, click on the “Accept” button to proceed.
  • Start browsing the internet: Once you have successfully logged in and accepted the terms, you’re now connected to the internet on your Carnival Cruise. Open your favorite websites, check your emails, or enjoy social media.

Remember that the speed of the internet connection on the ship may vary and can be slower than what you’re used to on land. So be patient and avoid bandwidth-intensive activities such as streaming high-definition videos.

If you experience any difficulties connecting to the internet or have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to the ship’s internet help desk for assistance. They will be more than happy to guide you through any troubleshooting steps or address any concerns you may have.

Now that you’re connected, let’s explore some troubleshooting tips for common internet issues you may encounter on Carnival Cruise.

Troubleshooting Common Internet Issues on Carnival Cruise

While Carnival Cruise strives to provide reliable internet access, there may be times when you encounter common internet issues. Here are some troubleshooting tips to help you overcome these challenges and ensure a smooth online experience:

1. Check your Wi-Fi connection: If you’re experiencing connectivity issues, ensure that your device is still connected to the Carnival Cruise Wi-Fi network. Sometimes, the connection may drop, and you’ll need to reconnect by selecting the Wi-Fi network again.

2. Restart your device: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve connectivity problems. Power off your device completely, wait for a few seconds, and then power it back on. This can help reset any temporary glitches that may be affecting the internet connection.

3. Move closer to the Wi-Fi access points: If you’re having a weak signal or slow internet speeds, try moving closer to the areas on the ship where Wi-Fi access points are located. These are often found near public areas like lounges or the ship’s internet café.

4. Avoid peak usage times: Internet speeds on the ship may be slower during peak usage times, such as in the evenings when many guests are online. If you’re experiencing slow speeds, try accessing the internet during off-peak times, such as early mornings or late nights, when fewer people are likely to be connected.

5. Clear your browser cache: If websites are not loading correctly or you’re encountering errors, clearing your browser cache can help. Go to your browser’s settings and find the option to clear cache and cookies. After clearing the cache, try accessing the websites again.

6. Disable unnecessary background apps and downloads: Close any unnecessary apps or programs that may be utilizing your internet connection in the background. This can help improve overall internet performance.

7. Seek assistance from the ship’s internet help desk: If you have gone through the troubleshooting steps and are still experiencing issues, don’t hesitate to reach out to the ship’s internet help desk. They have trained professionals who can provide further assistance and resolve any complex internet problems you may encounter.

By following these troubleshooting tips, you’ll be well-equipped to tackle common internet issues and enjoy a smoother online experience during your Carnival Cruise. Now, let’s move on to the important topic of staying safe and secure while using the internet on the ship.

Staying Safe and Secure While Using the Internet on Carnival Cruise

While enjoying your online activities on Carnival Cruise, it’s crucial to prioritize your safety and protect your personal information. Here are some essential tips to help you stay safe and secure while using the internet on the ship:

1. Use secure websites: When entering sensitive information or conducting online transactions, ensure that the website you are using is secure. Look for “https://” at the beginning of the website’s URL, which indicates that the connection is encrypted and secure.

2. Avoid public Wi-Fi for sensitive activities: While the ship’s Wi-Fi network is generally secure, it’s still advisable to avoid conducting highly sensitive activities, such as online banking or accessing confidential information, when connected to public Wi-Fi. It’s best to wait until you have a secure and private internet connection to perform these tasks.

3. Protect your login credentials: Be cautious when entering your login credentials for various websites or apps on the ship’s internet. Avoid using the same password for multiple accounts and consider using a password manager to securely store your passwords.

4. Keep your devices updated: Regularly update your devices with the latest software and security patches. This helps protect against known vulnerabilities and ensures that you have the most up-to-date protection against potential threats.

5. Be wary of phishing attempts: Stay vigilant against phishing attempts, where malicious actors may try to trick you into providing sensitive information. Avoid clicking on suspicious links or opening attachments from unknown sources. If in doubt, contact the ship’s internet help desk for verification.

6. Use a Virtual Private Network (VPN): Consider using a VPN service to encrypt your internet connection and protect your privacy. A VPN can provide an additional layer of security when accessing the internet on Carnival Cruise.

One person has died and multiple people were injured in a shuttle bus crash in Honolulu , Hawaii on Friday.

"Nine Carnival Miracle guests were hit by a shuttle bus in the transportation area outside the Honolulu cruise terminal on Friday morning," Matt Lupoli, senior manager of the Carnival Cruise Line , told USA TODAY. "Sadly, one guest has died from her injuries. She was traveling with her husband, who was also injured and is expected to recover."

The shuttle bus crashed into pedestrians and two concrete barriers at the terminal. The shuttle bus driver mistakenly stepped on the gas pedal instead of the break when they attempted to stop the bus from moving, Hawaii News Now reported.

All of the victims were taken to local hospitals and are being treated for their injuries. The victims are in different conditions ranging from serious to stable, the news outlet said.

"Members of the Carnival Care Team are assisting the guests. Our thoughts are with the guests affected and their loved ones," Lupoli said.

USA TODAY has reached out to the  Honolulu Police Department and the Honolulu Emergency Medical Services for comment.

Eyewitnesses share their experience after the Honolulu shuttle bus crash, reports state

Eyewitness told KITV Island News that the relaxing Friday morning turned deadly after the shuttle bus crash.

"We heard the tire of a vehicle screeching," Lillian Le, a visitor from Denver told the broadcast station. "We looked and it was a bus running over people and hit against a wall."

An employee at the complex said he has never experienced this before.

"We saw the first responders coming, it was substantial, probably about 10 a.m., four or five ambulances, two fire trucks, ten cop cars, looked pretty bad - it's really distressing," Mark Elwell, an employee at the complex wher the accident occurred. "I've worked here 21 years, I've never seen anything to this magnitude, really sad to see, obviously people were hurt pretty bad to be taken away by ambulance."

Jessica Lani Rich, a visitor at the Aloha Society of Hawaii told KITV Island News that the woman who died was celebrating her 46th wedding anniversary with her husband.

Regent Seven Seas Grandeur is the third of three sister...

The luxury pedigree that Regent Seven Seas welcomed with Seven Seas Explorer in 2016 continued with sister ship Seven Seas Splendor in 2020, but the third and final sister Seven Seas Grandeur offers up the best of class.

The ship’s features include the first Fabergé egg with a permanent home at sea. The blue-pearl-and-diamond sculpture titled “Journey in Jewels” is a small but commanding centerpiece rotating within its display case in the atrium for travelers to enjoy as soon as they step on board.

The egg is revealed as seven branches break away like waves that represent the Seven Seas. The ship’s godmother is Sarah Fabergé, the great-granddaughter of Peter Carl Fabergé.

It’s part of a 1,600-piece art collection that includes classic black-and-white photos from global destinations adorning the hallways between cabins to the steakhouse’s original Picassos. Travelers could spend a good afternoon wandering hallways and public spaces, akin to visiting a museum. A new app for the line also offers a digital art tour, like a personal guide.

“With each new ship, our team works tirelessly to identify and source the most impressive array of art pieces, building a collection that would be enviable by most modern-day museums, to ensure our guests’ time onboard is as enriching and thought-provoking as their time on land,” said Regent Seven Seas Cruises President Andrea DeMarco.

All three ships in the Explorer class are about 55,500 gross tons, with Grandeur sporting a 744-guest capacity among its all-suite offerings. The line has three older ships and just had two larger vessels ordered by parent company Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, but they are not due until 2026 and 2029.

Until then, the three sister ships continue the line’s most refined take on their global, all-inclusive itineraries, with both Splendor and Grandeur set to return to Miami for the 2024-25 winter Caribbean season.

The line has given all three Explorer-class ships a succession of superlative monikers. Seven Seas Grandeur was dubbed with “A Heritage of Perfection,” following Seven Seas Explorer’s “the most luxurious cruise ship ever” and Seven Seas Splendor’s “the ship that perfects luxury.”

With 548 crew, Grandeur boasts a 1:1.36 crew-to-passenger ratio similar to its two sisters, so needs among travelers are attended to promptly.

The ship’s interior spaces are crafted by Miami-based Studio DADO, which has put its mark on sister lines Oceania Cruises and Norwegian Cruise Line.

That includes new takes on main dining venue Compass Rose, which DADO founding partner Yohandel Ruiz called “a feast for the eyes.”

It’s filled with fantastical tree-like arches right out of Alice in Wonderland with a cascading waterfall sculpture. At night, thousands of individually placed crystal-faceted leaves encrusted on pillars and branches illuminate the space.

The ship has five signature restaurants on board, including steakhouse Prime 7, Italian option Sette Mari at La Veranda, French offering Chartreuse and the latest version of Asian restaurant Pacific Rim, this time bringing a delicate bronze-and-glass bonsai cherry blossom tree sculpture as the centerpiece at the entrance. It’s a welcome and fitting addition to the dragon and prayer wheel sculptures on its two sister ships.

The ship has 15 suite categories, all with their own balconies. The pinnacle of sailing options is the 4,443-square-foot Regent Suite at $11,000 a night. It features a $200,000 Hästens Vividus custom handmade mattress, an in-suite spa retreat with a personal sauna and steam room and 270-degree views from the ship’s bow from a 1,292-square-foot wraparound veranda. Those passengers get their own butler and personal car and driver in every port.

Some seven-night Miami-based sailings go for as low as $3,700 per person based on double occupancy.

For everyone on board is the spa with an infinity pool that looks out over the stern, fitness center, jogging track, casino, several lounges, card room, library and main pool. Top-deck fun includes pickleball, shuffleboard, mini golf and ping-pong.

A big draw to Regent is the mostly inclusive offerings, including free and unlimited shore excursions, round-trip flights, unlimited internet, prepaid gratuities, ground transfers and other amenities.

One of the best offerings on board, though, isn’t free. Back again is the Culinary Arts Kitchen, a staple borrowed from sister line Oceania Cruises, but a massively popular offering that lets 18 students create memorable dishes under the guidance of a chef team.

During a preview cruise for media in January out of PortMiami, the class was led by the amiable Chef John Stephano talking students through a pair of sample dishes – pasta al limone, which is lemon pasta, and French crêpes with an allspice berry ice cream, offered during what are normally two-hour-long classes twice per day on sailings.

“I promise you’re going to make delicious and delightful food,” he said but joked that “anybody that struggles with their culinary skills today, we’ll be sending you down to the galley to help us out.”

Stephano deftly demonstrates and drops bits of history and detail during the demonstration with students gathered around, who then go one of the 18 individual stations equipped with induction cooktops, stainless steel sinks and a collection of tools, tongs, pots and pans, while he and assistant chefs make the rounds to ensure everyone is figuring out the steps.

The course options vary per cruise pulling from nearly 50 curated thematic class titles such as “1493: The Foodies’ New World,” “Familia Cubana” and “Flip-Flop Floribbean.” Classes are an extra $89, which is about the only extra-cost feature on a Regent sailing. They are often themed to the location where the ships sail.

The culinary team also has a hand in creating some of the unique excursions, which then pair up with some of the classes.

Grandeur just finished out its first run about the Caribbean during mostly sold-out itineraries from PortMiami and is now amid a set of Mediterranean voyages for summer 2024. It will then make its way to New York for fall color itineraries of Canada and New England in September and October and then return to Miami to begin the winter Caribbean sailing season into 2025.

Princess Cruises and Fincantieri Announce to Postpone Delivery of Star Princess

By downloading this image you agree to the Princess asset use terms and conditions

MONFALCONE, Italy, (April 19, 2024) – Princess Cruises and ship builder Fincantieri today announced the mutual decision to postpone the delivery of the next Sphere Class ship, Star Princess.

Following a comprehensive review of the remaining construction milestones, both parties have elected to adjust the ship's delivery date from July 29, 2025 to September 26, 2025, which will result in the cancellation of the nine inaugural sailings.

“Despite our collective dedication and relentless pursuit to deliver the ship in late July, it has become evident that additional time is required to ensure the Star Princess is delivered to the highest standards expected by our guests,” said John Padgett, president of Princess Cruises.

The new inaugural sailings of Star Princess will sail roundtrip from Barcelona and include an 11-day Mediterranean voyage on October 4, 2025, and a 7-day Mediterranean voyage on October 15, 2025, that precede a 14-day transatlantic crossing to Fort Lauderdale on October 22, 2025 for the ship’s first Caribbean season. These three new cruises will open for sale on April 30, 2024.

Guests who are booked on any of the impacted voyages will be given three options: book any Princess cruise worldwide, including aboard the new Star, sister ship Sun Princess, or any other Princess ship.

Guests who elect to rebook will receive future cruise- and onboard-credits depending on the cruise they select.  Guests will also have the option to cancel and receive a full refund of the cruise fare.

Princess will protect travel agent commissions on all bookings that have been paid in full.

Star Princess is the second in the new Sphere Class of ships for Princess. Sister ship Sun Princess, built by Fincantieri in Monfalcone, debuted in February and is hailed as the next level Love Boat featuring the iconic and elegant structural lines Princess is known for, while delivering an evolution of the brand with new eye-catching architectural spectacles like The Dome, the cruise industry’s first geodesic feature on the top deck, and The Sphere, the suspended glass Sphere Piazza at the center of the cruise ship.

More details on both Sphere Class ships can be found at  www.princess.com/sunprincess .
