Haven Safari Glamping Hammock: A Lay-Flat Hammock Review

By: Author Alisha McDarris

Sharing is caring!

Into Glamping? Don’t love sleeping on the ground? But not a huge fan of traditional hammocks either? Well, have we got a review for you! Meet the Haven Safari glamping hammock, a spacious, durable lay-flat hammock with plenty of storage space and oodles of comfort.

A while back, we reviewed the original Haven , a lay-flat hammock designed to get you comfortably off the ground when camping, while still offering an uber comfy sleep experience reminiscent of your bed at home. (i.e. flat.). But the brand is launching an upgraded glamping model of their popular product on Kickstarter, so you know we had to take a look.

The Haven Safari lay-flat hammock.

Haven Safari: The Deets

Enter the Haven Safari , a larger, more durable, versatile lay-flat hammock for car camping and backyard lounging.

What’s the difference between the original and the new Safari? Well, the Safari is bigger, for starters. In fact, it’s 80″ long and 30″ wide. The original is 24×78. The insulated sleeping pad–it has an R-value of 4–is also a luxe four inches thick and made of a sort of vegan suede material.

The whole kit and caboodle (lol) weighs 11 lbs, 13 oz and has a weight capacity of 350 lbs. The material is a durable, heavyweight canvas-like polyester and is waterproof (as all tents should be).

It comes in 4 colors–we feature the Canopy color here–has a lounge strap that you can tighten to effectively prop yourself up for evening reading or some such, then release to lay back down from inside the hammock, and has two double zippers so you can get in and out on either side of the hammock. The way they’re designed also allows you to fully unzip the bug net and either push it toward your feet or take it off completely.

safari tent glamping haven

There’s a waterproof fly to keep the rain off, which you can fasten to the tent body in extremely windy and wet weather to stay nice and toasty, and you can even transition the Haven Safari to the ground and use it as a bivy (a compact 1-person sleeping arrangement) if there are no trees available. (Though take note that if you plan on using the rain fly, pitching it as a bivy requires that you have 4 trekking poles on hand–or at least 2 trekking poles and two appropriately-sized sticks).

The Safari also comes with a few additional bells and whistles for Kickstarter backers, including a bundle that includes a bunting banner and a stake-able sheet of fly material that serves as a welcome mat of sorts, both made out of leftover fabric scraps.

You can also get a dimmable LED light strip to really illuminate things inside the Safari and a portable battery-powered air pump if you don’t want to use the included pump sack to inflate the mattress.

And it does take a minute to inflate that big ol’ air mattress, just FYI. That’s glamping for you, kids.

Haven Safari: The Review

As for what we thought of it, well, it’s just as comfy and fun as the original, but with more space and more durable materials. Not that the original was too shabby in that department, but the Safari definitely feels more like a heavy-duty glamping experience what with the heavyweight canvas and all. Just has that vibe about it.

But let’s start with the sleeping pad. I’m gonna be honest: we didn’t love it. It’s very noisy. And Josh thought the material felt weird on his skin, but I reminded him he probably would be in a sleeping bag most of the time, so it wouldn’t really matter. Besides, NO sleeping pad feels great on sweaty bare skin, so…a nonstarter in my opinion.

The whole setup does take a minute to hang, though. This isn’t our first time hanging a Haven tent and it STILL took us a solid 20 minutes. Now, I could probably halve that time after a few hangs, but it still won’t be as quick a setup as a traditional hammock or simple ground tent.

The Haven Safari lay-flat hammock with bug net unzipped.

That said, I do love all the space and the pockets. If there’s one thing I don’t absolutely love about conventional hammock camping, it’s the lack of places to store things like my phone, reading material, a pocket knife, headlamp, etc. So I dig that there are 6–SIX–spacious pockets.

There’s also plenty of elbow room, even for folks larger than me, and I appreciate that I was able to sit up in the Haven Safari without feeling all smashed and cocooned by fabric. It feels more like a hangable camp sofa than a traditional hammock.

It is a bit unstable, though, which is the same issue I had with the original. If I moved around too much or got a bit too off-balance, like when rolling over or changing, the structure got a bit tippy. The only thing keeping me from ending up on the ground was the bug net, so if that’s open, there’s certainly a toppling out issue if you’re not careful.

No more than in those backyard hammocks with the bars across the top and bottom, just more than in a conventional hammock. But there are pros and cons for every piece of gear and which ones matter depend on you and your camping style.

A woman sitting up cross-legged in the Haven Safari.

Bottom Line

Honestly, I’m perfectly happy camping in a regular hammock (just check out what we had to say about the Kammok Mantis backpacking hammock ). But I’m the kind of camper and backpacker who likes to keep it simple. That may not be you. And if it isn’t, then, yeah, you may really dig the new Haven Safari.

I mean, I can certainly see why you would: It’s super comfy, you can lay almost entirely flat, there are tons of pockets for storing essentials inside, which you don’t get with a traditional hammock, and there’s lots more room to move around, which is what a lot of people cite as the reason they don’t like hammocks–they feel like they’re claustrophobically swaddled in nylon. (The other reason is they don’t know how to properly lay in one, which we address in this video .)

But as for sustainability, we’d like to see more from Haven. Yes, the material they use is durable and intended to last longer, but we’d like to see it made of recycled materials, Haven offset their carbon footprint, commit to PFC-free DWR…that short of thing. They are still a small brand, so they will hopefully grow into that, but as of right now, they’ve got some work to do in our opinion. That said, we did find out Haven gives a portion of profits each quarter to  OneTreePlanted.org  to offset their shipping footprint. And when they take back damaged tents, they repair and re-sell or repurpose them ( very few tents get scrapped entirely).

It’s also not the cheapest hammock at $385 ($285 if you back it on Kickstarter). It’s expensive for a camping hammock to be sure, but honestly not that outrageous for a fully outfitted glamping setup.

Anyway, there are a few days left of the Kickstarter campaign where you can get a super discount ($100 off retail!!) on the new Haven Safari for September delivery. So back it and secure yourself a lay-flat hammock here ! Then, when it’s ready to order straight up, we will update this post with the new link.

But whatever you do, sleep happy–on a flat surface suspended in the air if you like–and wander on.

Elevate Your Camping Experience With The Haven Safari

Back with another Kickstarter, the team at Haven Tents has created the third iteration of their innovative lay-flat hammock design. This new model named the Haven Safari , combines a tent with a flat hammock, guaranteed to make camping enjoyable and restful. With a focus on providing a comfortable space to rest, the Safari was designed for any situation, including car-camping, backyard camping , or extreme backpacking through rough terrain. The Haven Safari features a flat sleeping platform, suspended like a traditional hammock and surrounded by a protective tent. The flat base of the hammock allows for comfortable sleep in any position – back, side, or stomach.

safari tent glamping haven

The Safari is designed to prevent folding along the hammock and protects the back from protrusions like uncomfortable rocks and sticks. Measuring 30 x 80-inches, the Haven Safari is ideal for even the largest campers. Each Haven Safari comes with the patented lay-flat sleeping platform available in four colors. The Haven Safari is made with 300d Polyester Canvas that is bug proof, waterproof, and adequately ventilated. Other available add-ons to the Haven Safari hammock tent include a ridgelight with dimmable LED bulbs, a whoopee sling to make tent placement easy, and a power pump to quickly inflate the air mattress. This Kickstarter campaign is well funded and currently searching for more backers. For an early pledge of $280, campers will receive the Haven Safari Hammock and air mattress, rainfly, tree straps, welcome mat, and stakes. Estimated delivery is on schedule for June 2022.

Stayed in two different Caravans over a two week period . Both caravans very clean and good facilities provided. Clubhouse only a short walk away. Used for work purposes as employment was in dorchester. Loads to do on site which is well maintained and has speed restrictions all over the site. Will definitely stay again.

What a great review - Thank you. It is always wonderful to read that our guests have enjoyed the facilities that we have on offer. Amazing to read you will definitely be back. We look forward to seeing you soon! With Kind Regards Katie Watson Holiday Experience Manager

I recently had a week stay at Seaview with my partner and sister and her family to celebrate her birthday. I telephoned Seaview 2 weeks prior to my holiday to inform them that i would be a late arrival and they said they would make a note, also during the same conversation i also asked if my sister who was there for 2 weeks (she arrived the week before) could collect my keys on my behalf and was told that would be ok, on my arrival date i recieved a fone call from sister to say they wouldnt release my keys as no note was on my booking after a few more phone calls they did give her the keys i thought brill, then i got a fone call from my sister to say that the original caravan allocated to me was actually occupied by another family and they had to allocate me another caravan, i was extremely disappointed because the living area seemed a lot smaller than the original one but i have been reassured that it was a Superior which is what i had booked, also i found that the bedrooms were very small and not much room to manouvre. I went to the reception the day after my arrival to report that the tv remote was broken and was told someone will come to caravan to have a look nobody came at all through the week. The holiday park has some great entertainment tho with excellent entertainment staff and is kept very clean and tidy

safari tent glamping haven

Thank you for your review. It was great reading that you enjoyed the site and the facilities that we have on offer here and that everything was clean and tidy. I am so sorry it appears that the request that you had made had not been noted on your booking. This is most unusual and I am sorry that this happened and then the inconvenience with moving caravans on arrival. I do hope that this will not deter you from visiting us again in the future. Please contact me directly and I will make sure I personally look after your booking. With Kind Regards Katie Watson Holiday Experience Manager

went for a monday to friday break and really enjoyed it.The van was fine and the staff were all warm and friendly, good thing is everything is concentrated in the centre of the park, reception, bar dining area entertainment complex, amusements, games area ,also a papa johns. The food is good and prices average although wine and beer are quite expensive, all in all though a good holiday and the seafront of weymouth is less than ten minutes away besides all the other attractions in the surrounding area, good area to visit.

  • Cleanliness

Thank you for your lovely review. It was great to read that the team were friendly as that is exactly what we hope to achieve for every guest. We look forward to welcoming you back again With Kind Regards Katie Watson Holiay Experience Manager

This was the third time we've stayed in the touring area of Seaview. When I booked I asked for a pitch near the toilet block, well we couldn't have been any closer! Thank you John for giving us what we asked for. We arrived about 6.30pm and waited at the Touring Reception as per the sign in the window. A member of the park staff drove past, saw me and got in touch with John the warden for me - very helpful! We had a really warm, friendly and genuine welcome from John. We ate in the bar one evening, the food was really good and well priced. The drinks were also well priced. One thing that stood out this weekend was the excellent customer service. None of the staff looked weary and fatigued as could be expected at this end of the season. Even the two random members of staff who passed us on our way to the bus stop on Saturday morning smiled and wished us a good morning. If only all sites were this friendly, I'd be a very happy bunny. Looking forward to next year - well done to you all.

This is an absolutely amazing review - THANK YOU! I am so pleased that we accommodated you exactly where you wanted to be and John looked after you. It really makes the team happy when a guest mentions that we have provided great customer service and the way in which you have written your review is quite simply everything we could wish for. I cannot thank you enough for taking the time to do this. John will be a very happy chap! Wonderful to read that you will be returning See you soon With Kind Regards Katie Watson Holiday Experience Manager

The caravan ('luxury') was faily nice, the bathroom and shower better than I expected. There was one double room which my daughter and her husband and baby shared, and two other rooms containing two tiny single beds. There was quite a good amount of storage though, and central heating, a good cooker and microwave, and a fridge. The reception experience was not too good, girls looking bored and not too happy. I personally did not eat in the restaurant and bar as I found it too noisy, so we bought a pizza and took it to our caravan, the pizza guys were very nice. The caravans were very close together, and not well insulated, so the incredibly noisy folks next to us with their two cars and constant stream of drunken visitors through the night spoiled our sleep, in fact I couldn't wait to go home to get a good nights' sleep! The shop was quite expensive, which is the norm on any holiday park, so I would suggest bringing your own teabags, sugar, coffee, toilet rolls etc etc. to see anything, you have to travel out in the car. I would not go again to this place, but is probably good for children and young families. The roads leading to the caravans are very narrow, and there is only parking space for one car by the van. There is a small car park for any other cars

  • Sleep Quality

safari tent glamping haven

Thank you for your review. It was pleasing to read that you were happy with the caravan itself. I am sorry it appears that you were disturbed with your sleep, I know how important that is , especially when you are on holiday relaxing. I do hope that you may decide to visit again in the future. Haven Safari All-In-One Hammock Tent: It’s A Bivy And A Suspended Lounger Too

Haven Safari All-In-One Hammock Tent

Folks. It is official. We are living in good times – even for those who dig the great wilderness. Why? Because we have got this: Haven Safari All-In-One Hammock Tent .

Haven Safari All-In-One Hammock Tent

Yeah. I know, I know. A hammock / tent hybrid isn’t new . But isn’t new does not mean there is no room for improvement. As far as this new entrant goes, it took its original Haven Tent and the sequel, Haven XL, and made it even better.

How better? Well, better comfort, space, and durability. Whether it’s glamping, car-camping, or backyard camping, the new Haven Safari will make sure you are in for a cozy good night (or day) rest.

Haven Safari All-In-One Hammock Tent

Key features include the brand’s patented flat-lay design with an extra-large sleeping platform, vegan suede-coated deluxe insulated air mattress, adjustable lounge strap to get into lounging position, waterproof and ventilated thick 300d polyester canvas, integrated bug net to keep bugs out, and a generous amount of storage offered through 6 large pockets and ridgeline.

And oh, did we mention that Haven Safari is not only a hammock and a suspended tent? It is also bivy which is perfect for those who prefer to stay grounded or for places where there aren’t any trees.

Haven Safari All-In-One Hammock Tent

Haven Safari further touts easy setup and the kit includes everything you need to set up a comfy resting spot in the wild. It includes a hammock, insulated pad, pump bag, rainfly, tree straps, guylines, and stakes.

Once again, Haven Tents have taken to Kickstarter to peddle its ware where you can learn more about this awesome new camping gear and if you so desire, pledge for a product at a special price of US$285 . That’s 100 bucks off the eventual retail price, btw. Also, as a special Kickstarter backer’s perk, each tent will ship with a welcome mat and bunting banner made from scrap materials for sprucing up your basecamp.

Experience Glamping at Off Map in South Haven

safari tent glamping haven

T here’s much to love about camping: the fresh air, the opportunity to connect with nature, the peace and quiet. But sleeping on the ground isn’t for everyone, and let’s be real — the bathroom situation at traditional campsites can be unpredictable at best. It’s no wonder, then, that the concept of glamping (short for glamorous camping) has exploded in popularity over the last decade, preserving the best elements of camping while including just enough creature comforts to satisfy the squeamish.

Detroiters who crave that elevated camping experience can now consider Off Map, which officially opened this past weekend. Just a three-hour drive from Detroit, the new “glampsite” is located near the southwest Michigan resort town of South Haven. Twelve luxury safari tents are scattered across the 75-acre property, which also sports a large indoor common area, a shower and bathroom facility, and communal fire pit and picnic spaces.

Chicago natives and longtime friends Sam Shanley and Mike Doyle, proprietors of Off Map, say the property was inspired by Shanley’s experiences camping at various national parks over a seven-month period in 2017. “I had never camped before, and I quickly learned that rustic camping requires quite a bit of know-how and even more equipment,” Shanley says. “The REI budget for that trip was pretty outrageous, and reading the setup instructions for my tent on the first night was pretty embarrassing.”

To save guests the hassle of setting up camp, each of the property’s safari tents is pre-set upon a wooden platform and includes either one king or up to three twin memory foam beds with premium linens. Campers can warm up by their very own wood-burning stove on cooler nights, or enjoy the breeze from battery-powered fans on hotter ones. Each tent also includes a power bank for charging electronic devices, along with dimmable lanterns and a small seating area.

Five individual restrooms are available in a newly converted barn, each of which includes its own shower, sink, and toilet for privacy. Guests can enjoy daily continental breakfast, ample drinking water, and a selection of games and activities in the site’s indoor common space, which is open daily from 8:30 a.m. until 11 p.m.

Off Map Glamping

“We tell our guests that they should expect to show up and be camping – none of the hours of setup, pitching tents, and building fires,” Doyle says. “Your bed is made with fresh linens; you have clean bathrooms and an indoor café with daily breakfast.”

Despite the property’s secluded feel, guests staying at Off Map are only a 10-minute drive from the shops, restaurants, marinas, and beaches of downtown South Haven. Outdoor attractions like the Black River Nature Preserve and the Kal-Haven Trail are even closer, offering hiking, biking, and bird-watching just a few miles from the site.

“Once people arrive, the type of experience they have is really up to them,” says Doyle. “Some folks spend their time relaxing at the property and exploring our 75 acres. Others are looking for a more active trip and spend their time hiking, biking, and exploring the local towns and beaches.”

The property is largely quiet during daytime hours when many guests disperse to explore nearby towns and attractions. But as the sun begins its slow decline into the horizon, Off Map comes alive with bonfires, cookouts, and even live music on select nights. In the future, Shanley and Doyle hope to experiment with holding events such as music festivals at the property. “There’s so much space here that we have lots of options,” says Doyle. “[That] is both exciting and daunting!”

Nightly rates start at $150 for weekdays and $175 for weekends. Reservations can be booked online.

Glamping Pods with Hot Tubs - What's it all About?

Glamping holiday accommodation is a combination of glamorous and camping, and mostly that's what it is in a nutshell. It's the new trend of luxury camping that involves staying in facilities that are a bit more luxurious than the standard tent set up. Typically, when you look at a glamping hot tub property, this will be a self-contained unit with all the modern fixtures and fittings you'd expect. The good thing about a glamping site is that there is such diversity of where you can go. These range from safari tents, eco-pods to renovated shepherds huts, to VW campervans and even a restored and furnished double-decker London bus. Pods and yurts offer the perfect way to spend a break with friends, family or a loved one. Coming in all shapes and sizes, the outside of these pods and luxury yurts with hot tubs may look simplistic, but the interiors are a far cry away from traditional camping.

Each yurt or safari tents have their own character, luxury glamping facilities and quirkiness.

Choose By Location

Cheshire glamping.

A somewhat neglected corner of England, it sits at the crossroads of many different places. Parts of the ancient county have been carved off to contribute to Merseyside and Greater Manchester, while the historic city of Chester now sits in its own Unitary Authority.

There are plenty of adults glamping opportunities across the border into Wales and also around the Peak District. Glamping sites are relatively new to the market but very popular amongst couples.

Cornwall Glamping

A top UK tourist destination for glamping with hot tubs and Cornish glamping is playing a more and more important part of that visitor experience.

As a county with both spectacular countryside and coastlines, choosing to glamp is a perfectly reasonable option for a family with a child wanting to spend time in a cabin.

Devon Glamping

Anyone thinking of Devon glamping will be spoiled for choice. With up to nine National Parks, the county is awash with glampsites that have all the weird and wonderful bell tents and safari tent choices, most with tubs.

Essex Glamping

This East England county is associated with many things, but glamping not so much. With its connections to the East End of London and its portrayal in the media, this county possibly suffers due to its popular culture profile

Kent Glamping

The county is in south-east England and is often seen as something of a go through location rather than stay. Situated in between Dover and London, it's often overlooked as a glamping destination in its own right.

However, there is a place and holiday type for all families and this slice of heaven offers great seaside towns, vast wildlife, beautiful gardens and has everything you need for a child to play and stay entertained for days.

Lake District Glamping

As the UK’s largest national park, the Lake District is a family-friendly glamping destination with something for everyone to enjoy. At the top of our list is a boat cruise across the majestic Windermere Lake, strolling around Cumbria’s quaint towns and villages, and climbing up the iconic 964 metre-tall Scafell Pike. There are adventures to be had around every corner so you’ll never be short of things to do!

New Forest Glamping

Despite its name, this is one of the oldest unspoiled wooded locations in England. It was new to William the Conqueror , who proclaimed it royal for his purposes and included it in the Domesday Book.

Northern Ireland Glamping

Escape to the rugged landscapes of Northern Ireland for your next getaway. Choose a treehouse holidays in the UK with a hot tub. Its peaceful valleys, unspoiled coastline and enchanting woodlands make it the perfect destination for outdoorsy types. But of course, there are also plenty of award-winning attractions and traditional Irish pubs to tick off your bucket list too!

Northumberland Glamping

The historic county, in the far northeast corner of England, has some spectacular sites for glamping and is consequently one of the country's most popular glamping places and destinations for a glamping holiday with landmarks such as Bamburgh Castle & Hadrian's Wall on your doorstep. Known for the outdoors, a luxury holiday break here usually consists of bike rides and walks with the children. Whether your in large groups, a small family with a child or simply a couple, this county caters for all guests.

Peak District Glamping

Planning your next adventure? How about a glamping holiday in the Peak District? Situated in central England, this glorious national park is brimming with natural beauty and fascinating history, making it the perfect spot for nature and culture lovers alike. Spend your days exploring endless local trails by foot or bike and your evenings relaxing in your very own woodfired hot tub. What’s more, you’ll find some of the best glamping in Derbyshire here, meaning you’ll be spoilt for choice with places to stay.

Scotland Glamping

Slink away on a glamping holiday to Scotland and be rewarded with dramatic landscapes, deep-rooted history and fascinating wildlife. Our glamping pods are located in some of the most spectacular spots, where you can spend the night stargazing from your hot tub. Or head to Scotland’s coast and try your hand at some watersports.

Wales Glamping

Mid Wales and North Wales especially have hundreds of glamping site choices. An exciting part of the British Isles, North Wales has a large number of Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and National Parks.

Mid Wales is especially popular for these types of glamping breaks as you have the Brecon Beacons National Park just south with a lot of pods. Mid Wales also has a vast selection of walks available on your doorstep.

Yorkshire Glamping

A popular destination for North Yorkshire campsites and North Yorkshire glamping, for several reasons. Representing about a tenth of England and with unlimited things to do and ways to spend the quality time it's no wonder new glampsites are popping across York.

If you're after a National Park, then you're in luck with some on your doorstep. A hot tub holiday in this part of the world is ideal for families with a child as there are plenty of places to visit with dogs along the coastline and countryside.

Adults Only Luxury Glamping

Recently breaks for adults only has become more and more popular as couples & adults often want to relax without any children running around or some parents need a peaceful weekend away to themselves. Many of the glamping accommodation comes with private tubs that are exclusive to adults only as there is often little to do for children to keep them entertained. Unlike holiday parks, there isn't a host of activities or entertainment at these pods. Depending on your location and if you have a vehicle, adults will often be able to visit local attractions and then retreat beak in the evening to your hot tub and glass of bubbly.

Another thing to consider for adults is that safari tents will be slightly higher in price due to their luxury and larger size in comparison to camping pods which may only sleep two. They may not have a swimming pool but with private tubs and panoramic countryside views, they do offer a tranquil stay. If you are after certain types of glamping bell tents, say dog friendly, with sea views, based in the hills, or perhaps something extravagant like looking over Snowdonia mountains, be sure to enquire about the hideaway before you book.

If you have a child and would like to enquire about safari lodges for that ideal family adventure, just ring before you book to see if they are allowed.

These types of traditional glamping Yurt domes are made using a variety of angled wood to create the walls, door and ribs.

They are especially popular among families with children as they are large and often located on a farm with plenty of countryside views to enjoy from your private hot tub.

This is the original way to go glamping with hot tubs!

A cabin is often a luxurious glamping stay located on campsites, a farm or holiday park with room for 2-4 people normally.

Depending on the cabins, place or area you’re staying at, internet access and countryside walks are usually available from your glamping cabin.

One of the more unusual glamping options, a treehouse with a hot tub is usually part of a collection and can sleep, large groups.

They are excellent if you want to view the stars at night and experience something unique when glamping with hot tubs.

Shepherds Hut

Often reserved for a romantic escape, these glamping huts are mainly located in rural surroundings either on a farm or campsites.

Most people picture these cosy huts when they think of glamping as they are often in an area off the beaten track but still provide a great degree of comfort.

A shepherds hut is also one of the more expensive choices out of all the camping and glamping properties, but equally one of the cosiest ways to enjoy hot tub glamping.

Safaris Tents

Safari tents are exclusive self-catering glamping properties, ideal for groups or families of more than five.

Their large size gives ample room for a glamping retreat and you can usually find them on campsites, holiday parks and sometimes even a farm.

A bell tent is a simple structure supported by one central pole and covered with cotton canvas, very similar to domes.

They are also similar to glamping Yurts but a bell tent is often smaller and more compact.

The areas they are typically found in are glamping campsites, a farm or private, making for an ideal hot tub glamping holiday.

Gypsy Caravan

Unlike anything else, a gypsy caravan has become a firm favourite among glamping enthusiasts. Due to their unusual nature, they are great for couples who want a peaceful glamping escape. Like most of our glamping properties, these can be found on a farm, campsites and park resorts.

Teepee / Wigwam

Teepees and wigwams offer another unique take on glamping with hot tubs. These accommodations combine modern comfort with a touch of history, ensuring cosy and memorable stays in picturesque rural settings. Whether for couples or larger groups, they provide a distinctive and inviting experience in the heart of the countryside.

If you've always fancied the idea of something different then glamping sites with safari tents or staying in bell tents might be for you. It provides the secluded raw experience of camping but offers luxury like private tubs. You'll also be treated to some spectacular views from the comfort of your very own living room as opposed to in a tent.

These types of luxury glamping stays are most popular among adults and parents. Other types of accommodation, check out cabins, treehouses, tipis & camping pitches. It's important to get bookings in early as availability is limited on these properties, especially large groups.

This Texas Glamping Property Near Austin Has Safari Tents With Wrap-around Decks and Is Next to a State Park

Outdoorsy Hill Country is tucked in the rolling Texas hills near the state's iconic wine trail.

If you need another reason to visit the Texas Hill Country , consider this: the rolling landscape is now home to a luxury glamping retreat with safari tents surrounded by wrap-around decks and a spring-fed lake. The new property, Outdoorsy Hill Country , is both the latest addition to the Texas Hill Country and the newest property in the Outdoorsy portfolio, an RV rental marketplace that is making a name for itself for its glamping-style retreats.

Outdoorsy Hill Country is nestled in Stonewall, Texas, between Austin and Fredericksburg on 32 acres. The property is expansive, with a spring-fed lake, walking trails, and a grove of live oaks. The day starts and ends with one of Texas’ spectacular sunrises and sunsets — best viewed from the wrap-around deck enveloping each of the property’s 22 safari tents.

“Our vision was to create an iconic destination that fuses rustic charm, immersive outdoor experiences, and refined Hill Country hospitality for thoughtful travelers from Texas and beyond,” Jeff Cavins, Outdoorsy's CEO, said in a press release shared with Travel + Leisure .

Jen Young, the co-founder and CMO of Outdoorsy, added, "We fell in love with Hill Country when we built a glamping tent for ourselves … we couldn't be more delighted to share this space with guests who are seeking out the restoration that time in nature provides.”

While nature may be the focus of a stay at Outdoorsy Hill Country, the highlight is the lodging. Each all-season glamping tent is surrounded by a panoramic deck and private fire pit.

Inside, there’s a king-size bed and a twin and trundle bed to sleep two to four people and full temperature control, with both heat and air-conditioning on tap. Rounding out the offerings are a fully equipped kitchenette and a private ensuite bathroom with a rainshower and plush robes.

Beyond the privacy of your secluded hideaway, you’ll find a handful of on-property offerings, including a cafe and bar with outdoor seating overlooking the neighboring Lyndon B. Johnson State Park and a menu that features juices, smoothies, and grab-and-go breakfast options in the morning and craft cocktails and local wines at night.

The live oaks provide shelter for the outdoor live music venue, while the country store sells everything you need to grill or assemble an afternoon picnic.

Further afield, guests can explore the Texas Wine Trail , which is on the doorstep of Outdoorsy Hill Country. (Plus, the Crown Hill Winery is right next door). In the neighboring towns of Luckenbach and Albert, there are historic dance halls, while the Lyndon B. Johnson State Park is just across the road.

Outdoorsy Hill Country is now taking reservations for stays starting March 21. The property’s first round of guests will be treated to views of the Total Solar Eclipse on April 8.

Glamping resorts offer both adventure and luxury.

If you're enticed by the idea of camping but don't want to deal with the inevitable grunt work that comes with it, glamping (or glamorous camping) is the perfect compromise. Read on to discover the most unique glamping resorts in California, Florida, Tennessee and other destinations across the U.S.

The Resort at Paws Up: Greenough, Montana

There's glamping, and then there's glamping at The Resort at Paws Up . One of the pioneers of modern-day glamping, The Resort at Paws Up offers six exclusive glamping camps (with prices to match), each one offering a different experience. Solo travelers and couples will love the two-story Tree Haus at the resort's adults-only retreat, called the green o. North Bank Camp – with three-bedroom, two-bathroom tents – is ideal for large families. You can book an individual tent or, if traveling with extended family and/or friends, even an entire camp. Guests can even bring along a furry friend, as this resort is dog-friendly.

Glamping guests enjoy a dedicated camping butler and, because this is an all-inclusive resort , three gourmet meals with alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages daily. Select activities such as mountain biking and snow tubing are covered in nightly rates. For additional fees you can also take advantage of the many unique guided activities and excursions you don't find at most resorts, from snowmobiling to hot air balloon rides. On-site transportation and shuttle service to and from Missoula Montana Airport, about 35 miles away, are also included in your stay.

While the lodging and amenities make Paws Up one of the best glamping resorts in the U.S., it's the staff members who have earned this resort rave reviews from previous guests. The Resort at Paws Up offers glamping mid-May through mid-October, while the green o is available for stays year-round.

Opened in 2022, Backland is a remote resort with four glamping options: Backland Suite, Grand Suite, Sky Suite and Grand Sky Suite. The latter two feature a view of the stars from a 16-foot skylight over the bed, but all four are fitted with panoramic windows for breathtaking views of the Arizona wilderness. These luxury tents accommodate up to either four or six guests, plus no more than two pets. Each features king-sized beds, a full en suite bathroom with a shower, luxury linens, electricity, automatic climate control, an outdoor patio, a coffee maker, a minifridge, housekeeping services and some toiletries.

Backland purposefully doesn't offer Wi-Fi in the tents – only at reception – as guests are encouraged to unplug during their stay. Instead of doomscrolling on social media, you can enjoy bird-watching, stargazing and roasting s'mores over a campfire. There's also a tented spa, a restaurant and a pond with a beach. Glampers at this resort say they appreciate the cozy accommodations and peaceful atmosphere.

Backland is located less than 15 miles from downtown Williams, Arizona, close to some of the best places to visit in Arizona , including Flagstaff (about 40 miles away), Grand Canyon National Park (less than 60 miles) and Sedona , which is a roughly 60-mile drive from the resort.

At Westgate River Ranch Resort & Rodeo near Kissimmee, you can spend the night in a variety of luxury glamping accommodations, each with a private bathroom and kitchenette: Choose one of the climate-controlled luxury tents or the Luxe Conestoga Wagon, which has space for up to six guests. Guests are encouraged to take advantage of this property's activities and amenities: airboat and swamp buggy rides, horseback riding, an archery range, a petting farm, a weekly rodeo, an on-site steakhouse and more. Resort activities, including VIP tickets to the rodeo, are covered in rates for glamping guests staying in one of the two luxe accommodations, making the experience nearly all-inclusive. Complimentary breakfast is available to guests of the hotel's nine glamping tents, another highlight of this eco-resort .

Available for stays from May to October, each cone-shaped tent features either one king bed or two twin beds, plus plush pet beds for up two dogs. The accommodations are also equipped with a private porch, two lounge chairs, a hammock, plenty of natural light, and heaters and fans upon request. Its glamping units bring wood floors and chandeliers into a canvas tent, with each offering an outdoor bathtub, a fire pit, a table and chairs, a small fridge and coffee maker, and sleeping accommodations for two. These tents are scattered around the property, so views range from the lake to the forest. All units are dog-friendly and feature a private bathroom.

When you're not white-knuckling the roller coasters at Silver Dollar City (considered one of the best amusement parks in the U.S. ) or uncovering history at the Titanic Museum Attraction, take time to enjoy the resort's activities such as golfing, hiking, or boating and fishing on the lake. Other amenities include pools and hot tubs, a fitness center, and a canteen with grab-and-go bites and beverages. Previous guests rave about the setting and conveniences of glamping at this resort.

Alila Ventana Big Sur: Big Sur, California

Glamping

There are few destinations in California that offer luxury in a place where you would otherwise have to rough it. In Big Sur , a region that is only accessible via one road and doesn't always offer electricity, travelers will find a limited selection of five-star accommodations – among them Alila Ventana Big Sur .

The resort offers safari-style tents in a 20-acre redwood canyon, all equipped with plush beds, electric lamps, instant hot and cold potable water with sinks, and power outlets with USB ports. Glampers can also make use of amenities for enjoying the outdoors, such as Adirondack chairs, wood-burning fire pits and picnic tables. Restrooms and showers are available at a shared, well-maintained bathhouse.

Glamping guests can purchase the Spa Alila Day Pass, which includes one 50-minute massage or facial, one poolside entree and one nonalcoholic beverage, plus full access to the meadow pool, infinity hot tub and sauna. You also have the option to enjoy fine dining at The Sur House on-site. Some parts of the Alila Ventana Big Sur grounds are reserved for resort guests only, so glampers will not have access to certain facilities.

If you want to glamp in Big Sur, you might also consider Treebones Resort, which offers yurts with king beds and modern furnishings, as well as accommodations you're not likely to find elsewhere. The Autonomous Camp Collection's twin units, which can best be described as a full apartment fit into a tent, take glamping to the next level; this solar-powered, upscale option is complete with a bedroom, en suite bathroom, lounge area and outdoor deck. For a more rustic but no less unique stay, the Human Nest campsite is exactly what it sounds like – meaning you'll need to bring your own bedding and tent for protection from the elements when you sleep on the futon pad inside this wood art.

Something else Treebones Resort has that you don't find at most glamping resorts? Sushi. The Wild Coast Sushi Bar features an omakase dining experience in which patrons sit face to face with the chef, who uses their reactions to craft the 14-course tasting menu. Previous guests say it's an absolute must when staying here. You can also dine at The Lodge Restaurant, which serves breakfast, lunch and a three-course dinner.

Other on-site amenities include a massage studio and yoga. The rugged coastline views at Treebones Resort rival many in the area, and glampers may also choose to explore the beauty of Big Sur through guided excursions.

Additionally, guests have access to detached private bathrooms located a short distance away.

Experience the beauty – and the award-winning wineries – of Texas Hill Country at Sinya on Lone Man Creek, a property inspired by a trip to Tanzania and named after a baby elephant in Kenya. This glamping retreat is situated atop a ridge, making you feel as if you're in a treehouse overlooking the beautiful surrounding greenery and Lone Man Creek. The creek's name aptly sets the scene for this exclusive experience, since the property consists of only one tent – but it can accommodate two guests, so there's no need to be truly "lone" if you don't wish to be.

This singular tent is decked out in beautiful country-style furnishings and outfitted with a king-sized bed (not to mention goose-down pillows), a Nespresso coffee maker, a sofa, a kitchenette and a bathroom, which features a claw-foot tub, bathrobes and Turkish towels. Courtesy of The Ranch at Rock Creek

This five-star dude ranch in western Montana, frequently lauded for providing one-of-a-kind travel experiences, also specializes in glamping. Like the rest of its property and offerings, The Ranch at Rock Creek takes its glamping to the next level.

Glamping accommodations start at nearly 800 square feet and are part-tent, part-cabin. With 10 such dwellings in four different styles – some of which are open year-round – options for amenities vary. Inside these "canvas cabins," you'll typically find spacious bedrooms, additional living areas, gas stoves, attached bathrooms, and outdoor spaces such as porches or decks. Guests can also sleep in a Conestoga wagon with a king bed and twin bunks.

What's more, glamping accommodations qualify for the resort's all-inclusive rate, which covers farm-to-table meals, drinks, transportation on the ranch and airport transfers, as well as resort activities like horseback riding and archery. Peak season at this property spans late May to early September, but the property is open year-round. The Ranch at Rock Creek exceeds expectations, according to previous guests.

Little Raccoon Key: Jekyll Island, Georgia

Glamping

Courtesy of Little Raccoon Key

Little Raccoon Key – a small, uninhabited island accessible by a short boat ride from Georgia 's Jekyll Island – stands out from most other glamping destinations in the U.S. for one reason: There's just one campsite available. Not only will you have the entire reef island to yourself, but you'll be pampered by staff from start to finish. In addition to your private-island accommodations and the short boat tour there that often passes dolphins, you can request chef-prepared meals, pre-arrival grocery delivery and a lesson on oyster reefs around the island at no extra cost.

Your campsite features most necessities, such as a luxury canvas tent, a memory foam mattress, a gas grill, a stove, a kettle, other cooking supplies, and an outdoor shower and toilet. You can also take advantage of the Adirondack chairs, board games and books. While Little Raccoon Key provides a cooler for ice, it's recommended to bring your own so you can store several days' worth of food, since there's no refrigerator. You also won't find running water or air conditioning at this solar-powered island camp, but you'll be provided with a battery-powered fan. Note that Little Raccoon Key requires a two-night minimum stay.

Experience the natural beauty of upstate New York with a stay at Firelight Camps. This glamping site enjoys a scenic location in a wooded area that's not only minutes away from local state parks including Buttermilk Falls but also less than 4 miles south of Ithaca's popular Collegetown neighborhood, making this particular destination easier to reach than most.

Canvas drapes the natural wood beams of the tents, which come with either one king bed or two queens. Tents also feature hardwood floors, a private tented balcony complete with rocking chairs, lanterns with USB ports, and a writers desk and chair. Upgraded tents come with electricity, though it's important to note that none have private bathrooms; instead, there's a shared bathhouse with eco-friendly products.

Guests can also expect to enjoy artisanal spirits at the on-site bar as well as delicious (and complimentary) breakfast each morning, thanks to co-founder Emma Frisch, who was a top finalist on season 10 of "Food Network Star" and has her own cookbook. Previous guests praise the resort staff's hospitality.

Sandy Pines Campground: Kennebunkport, Maine

Glamping

Douglas Merriam | Courtesy of Sandy Pines Campground

Kennebunkport is known for its beaches and quaint downtown area, which often leaves the nearby green spaces overlooked by visitors. But Sandy Pines Campground offers travelers the chance to experience these underrated landscapes in Kennebunkport without sacrificing proximity to the water. Guests can choose from a variety of unique accommodation options, including Airstreams, Conestoga wagons, cottages, huts and traditional glamping tents.

The tents for couples are decorated to the nines – some with chandeliers – and outfitted with a king-sized bed, a seating area, a private deck, a mini-fridge, lighting, air conditioning and a small heater, and bath amenities. The family tent options have similar features but come with either a daybed in the main tent or a separate smaller tent with twin beds.

Guests can take advantage of glampground amenities such as bathhouses, a saltwater pool, the General Store and Snack Bar, laundry facilities, bike and water sports equipment rentals, and lots of activities for kids. Speaking of younger guests, previous visitors say Sandy Pines Campground is especially ideal for families.

Mendocino Grove: Mendocino, California

Glamping tents in Mendocino Grove.

Find a serene glamping experience in one of California's most breathtaking small towns . Mendocino Grove sits within a forest bluff adjacent to the town, affording spectacular views of the camp's towering trees and the coast.

Most glamping tents sleep two guests, but some sleep up to four or six. You'll also find some options that are dog-friendly. Beds vary in size and come with down comforters and wool blankets; the adult beds also feature heated mattress pads. All tents come equipped with fire pits, picnic tables and limited electricity for powering lamps (which have USB ports) as well as other approved devices including CPAP machines. Private decks with leather butterfly chairs complete the glamping accommodations.

Other on-site amenities include two shared bathhouses with organic products (plus a dog wash), hammocks, a bocce ball court and yoga. Enjoy complimentary coffee, tea and cocoa at The Meadow Commons, which also offers Wi-Fi and lends out books and games.

Huttopia: Multiple Locations

Interior of cabin at Huttopia.

What started as a small campsite in the French Alps in 1999 has since expanded to more than 60 locations across three continents, including five U.S. sites in California, upstate New York, southern Maine and New Hampshire's White Mountains. Huttopia's goal is to provide travelers with comforts that go above traditional camping but aren't so comfortable that you'll stay in your tent rather than explore the beautiful surroundings of its properties.

All tents and cabins offer plush beds and electricity, while some have private bathrooms, kitchenettes or kitchens, and decks. Shared bathhouses are available to guests who don't have private toilets and showers. The company's newest U.S. location, Huttopia Wine Country, opened in 2023 in partnership with Northern California's Six Sigma Ranch and Winery. Overlooking the region's rolling vineyard hills, it features a swimming pool as well as French camping cuisine – from espresso to crepes to brick-oven pizza – at its on-site Café-Bistro.

AutoCamp: Multiple Locations

If your idea of glamping is spending the night in an RV – but you don't have the budget or patience to buy one – it's time to explore AutoCamp. This glamping resort company specializes in Airstream accommodations, with six locations (and counting) ranging from national parks to beaches. Airstream amenities vary slightly by location, but you can expect plush beds (including dog beds upon request), spa-inspired bathrooms, heating and air conditioning, basic cookware, and fire pits with grills.

Families love the BaseCamp Mini Suites – an Airstream with an adjacent tent for kids – available seasonally at select resorts; another unique lodging option at some sites is the BaseCamp Suite, which is part-Airstream, part-tent. All locations offer traditional standalone glamping tents as well as accessible accommodation options.

Like the accommodations, some of the on-site programming varies by resort. For instance, AutoCamp Yosemite and AutoCamp Zion (the newest property) have pools, while the Cape Cod location has a playground. But all of AutoCamp's outposts are dog-friendly and offer complimentary cruiser bikes (first come, first served), Wi-Fi and coffee; they also promise on-site stores for provisions, including wine and beer, and an experience you won't soon forget.

Off the coast of Washington state, Lakedale offers year-round glamping on San Juan Island, a picturesque place that can only be accessed by ferry or floatplane. Here, year-round glamping accommodations consist of yurts. Each comes with a king bed, full-sized sleeper sofa, an en suite bathroom, a wet bar, a fridge, a flat-screen TV, a skylight, seating indoors and outside, and private decks with hot tubs.

In the summer months, travelers also have the option to glamp in a canvas cabin or cottage, ideal for families with space for up to six guests. Complimentary on-site activities at Lakedale include lawn games, bike rentals and water sports on the resort's three spring-water lakes.

The Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls: Logan, Ohio

Courtesy of The Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls

Surrounded by the lush forests of Hocking Hills State Park in Ohio, the Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls is one of the most romantic getaways in Ohio . Choose from fully equipped cabins and cottages (some of which are pet-friendly) as well as yurts and geodomes. Each insulated yurt has a king bed or two twin beds, a full bathroom, a kitchenette that includes a gas log stove and microwave, a wood deck, and rocking chairs. The geodomes, outfitted with one king bed, have similar amenities to the yurts, plus a dining table and sofa.

All guests have access to a full-service spa and a restaurant, lauded by guests for its food (which includes complimentary breakfast); both are located in 1840s-style log cabins. Of course, you'll also find outdoor activities galore, from hiking to stargazing at nearby John Glenn Astronomy Park, named for the first American astronaut to orbit the Earth.

The Vintages Trailer Resort: Dayton, Oregon

Courtesy of The Vintages Trailer Resort

The Vintages Trailer Resort offers 36 trailers in a variety of styles, nine of which welcome dogs and all of which make the perfect home base for those exploring Oregon's Willamette Valley, otherwise known as Oregon wine country. Trailer styles and designs vary, but all offer comfortable beds, bathrooms – or at the very least toilets – air conditioning and heating, and kitchenettes or outdoor grills. Separate shower facilities are also available. Pro tip: Book the 1956 Spartan Royal Mansion trailer in the warmer months to stargaze from an open-air soaker tub.

The on-site amenities at The Vintages Trailer Resort are almost as good as the trailers themselves – think: a seasonal swimming pool, fire pits, a general store and complimentary cruiser bikes for enjoying Dayton, the gateway to several local vineyards. Even better is the staff, whom previous guests praise in their glowing reviews of the resort.
