Plan now hatched for this. Will get free-hub changed to 9-speed(and wheel trued),fit Sora mechs taken off other halfs Liv and get some Sora trigger shifters. Chainset will be the s/h FSA one which I've just taken off the other Trek with some fresh chainrings(in silver hopefully) and a new 9-speed cassette and chain. Actually rode it today and even with the nasty grip shifters it was fun to ride.

A great choice of mine. I am comfortable using this going to Encinitas Roofing Pros because of its lightweight and fast for a hybrid.

The seat is a thin and a little bit hard

My first real bike Trek 7300fx. Was given it second hand not sure what year model it is(maybe 2006/7). My friend did three trips through Africa averaging about 2000km per trip before he gave the bike to me. He pulled a trailer with it carrying about 30kgs of goods. I have cycled some long trips with it through Malawi. Carrying about 15kgs. Its fast/ strong Great on the uphills.

Our roads are potholed in Africa. Still kept the Trek 7300fx but got a mountain bike as well.

Good bike overall. Its a nice touring bike. Simple to work on maintenance wise.Spares hard to come buy in Malawi have to order from South Africa. Best bike on the tar road. Its strong enough for off road but not comfortable. I going to keep it for some long cycles. I think I would choose this bike if one day I did a Cape to Cairo cycle. It can carry a nice load.

Similar Products Used:

Confident riding. Fast sprinting. Accelerate fast. Acceptable original components.

Poor wheelset and tires (Bontrager Invert Hardcase - very durable, not flats, but not fast). Don´t holds high velocity, requiring a bit cycling power to keep velocity (whe higher than 25 mph)

"Fast" bike, even a little heavy. Position is good for biking, even OEM saddle is not bad but not ergonomics. I spent a fews rides and minutes to find the perfect positon. Fowarding the bars, rotating it, pointing down the saddle nose, inverting the stem... and OK!!! just enjoying a lot now! Seems good at high speeds, but it feels every pothole available. (upgrade fork and seatpost, solving a little bit the problem). Acceptable OEM equipment. At climbs, the small front gear ring in the crankset(48/28 and 28) is not very usefull, but is always there, if required. The cassete uses 11-34 teeths, which 34 size is good for clibing, but not usefull with 28 front gear... it forces the rear derailleur to engage it. I exchaged for a 9 spd cassete (11-28) and rides happy.

Solid construction, nice handling. In lower gears, hills are very doable.

On long rides, my thumbs get tired from downshifting.

I bought this bike because I wanted to ride with a club, but wasn't ready for a real road bike. That was over 4500 miles ago; I had my bike outfitted with road tires and later added bar ends and Look clipless pedals. I really love to ride! My bike is comfortable and quick, and pretty light for an aluminum frame (about 26 lbs). If you see one of these used, grab it; it's a great bike.

yes thats correct i paid $65.00 for a 2006 7300fx. i am new to trek products but i am pleased so far. i live in ann arbor and it is a very bicycle friendly town. if any one has some input on up-grades for my 7300 i would love some advice

Lightweight and fast for a hybrid

maybe it's me but the seat is thin and hard

actually a 2009 FX 7.3. Very lightweight but strong, this bike is faster than any other hybrid I test rode. The seat is a bit uncomfortable and I wish the handlebars were set a little higher so I could carry a little more weight on the seat and sit a little more upright, but it is still pretty comfy. Maybe I'll try installing handlebar ends.

I'm 5'1", and although the 7300 is a bit big for me, I LOVE MY BIKE. It's a smooth, stable lightweight ride. I ride to work and back every day, and ride for pleasure on my days off. I use this bike to carry groceries in attached panniers, and the bike is still stable, even with a 10 lb bag of cat litter on one side, and a 10 lb bag of groceries on the other. I would not trade this for anything. LOVE!

im very hard on bikes and this one can take everything i put it threw iv had more $ bikes and hey dont take half the abuse i put this none threw never had one problem with this bike if somone offerd me a $1000 i be hard pressed to take it....

Light weight, Flat handle bar (good for those with weak backs) Comfortable for long rides. Shifts easily and cleanly.

Shocks transmit freely through the frame. The seat maybe a little uncomfortable to begin, but get used to soon. Snazzy elliptical (weird) frame means typical accessories like bike lock holder cannot be clamped on.

Excellent commuter bike. I got lucky in the sense that the tires on this bike were thinner (much similar to a road bike) than on same other Trek 7.3 FX's Put on a rear bike rack and a kick stand (both from my older bike) and new fenders coz I live in Seattle.

Rayleigh hybrid, Schwinn MTB

Light, strong, solid and fast. I crank pretty hard on hills and in traffic and the FX seems to be taking it easily.

Bumps and rough surfaces seemed more pronounced than with my old bike. The stock seat feels uncomfortable, but may just need adjustment. No kickstand, no place for my old lock holder on the jazzy elliptical frame tubes.

Broke my old hybrid commuter after 6 years of use. The 7.3FX is stronger and lighter, is geared faster for better hill climbs and descents. It's also a great-looking bike [I have the metallic black] and the design seems better thought out and refined than my old bike.

Trek 7100 Review: Features and Specifications

Frame and fork.

If you’re looking for a hybrid bike that’s built to last and can handle a variety of terrains, the frame and fork are two components you want to pay close attention to. After all, they’re the backbone of the bike, providing stability and support as you ride.

Fortunately, the Trek 7100 has you covered in both departments. At the core of this bike is an Alpha white aluminum frame that’s designed to be both lightweight and strong. It’s built to last, so you won’t have to worry about it giving up on you after just a few rides.

trek 730 bike price

In addition to the frame, the fork is also an important component of any bike. The Trek 7100 comes equipped with a preload adjustable SR Suntour NEX fork that offers 50mm of travel.

This means that it can absorb the shock and vibrations that come with riding on rough or bumpy roads, providing a smoother and more comfortable ride.

And since the Trek 7100 is built for paved roads and city streets, the fork provides enough protection from road noise to make your ride more enjoyable.

But it’s not just about comfort – the Trek 7100 is designed to be efficient and fast, too. The steep head tube angle allows it to handle uphill and downhill commutes with ease, making it a great choice for riders who want a bike that can keep up with them.

Gears and Brakes

When it comes to hybrid bikes, having a wide gear range is crucial to getting the most out of your ride. It’s what allows you to smoothly transition between different speeds and handle a variety of terrains.

The Trek 7100 delivers on this front, thanks to its high-quality components. With 7-speed SRAM shifters and Shimano M191 front derailleur, you’ll be able to shift gears smoothly and easily, even when you’re going up steep hills or facing strong headwinds.

trek 730 bike price

And with an SRAM X3 rear derailleur, you can trust that your bike will handle whatever terrain you’re on.

But it’s not just about the gears – the brakes are just as important when it comes to the overall performance of a hybrid bike.

That’s why the Trek 7100 comes equipped with Tektro linear pull brakes that provide reliable stopping power when you need it. And when you’re navigating crowded city streets, you can trust that these brakes will help keep you safe and in control.

The combination of these components is what sets the Trek 7100 apart from other hybrid bikes on the market.

It’s built to deliver the performance of a road bike, but with the comfort and versatility of a hybrid bike. This makes it a great choice for commuting, exercising, or just getting around your neighborhood.

And despite being a low-end SRAM twist shifter, the performance of the Trek 7100’s gearing system is nothing to scoff at.

With a 21-speed set-up, you’ll have a wide range of gears to choose from, allowing you to customize your ride to your preferences.

Plus, the shifts are quick and easy, so you won’t have to worry about fumbling with the gears while on the go.

Wheels and Tires

The wheels and tires of a bike play a crucial role in its performance, and Trek 7100 hybrid bike has impressive wheels and tires that make it stand out from other bikes in its class.

trek 730 bike price

It has Bontrager H4 tires, which are sized at 700 x 35c and known for accelerating quickly on flat trails. They are perfect for smooth roads and provide excellent traction, especially when combined with the 3X7 drivetrain.

Even though it’s not as fast as a road bike, the 7100 is more comfortable to ride than many road bikes in the same price range. I believe comfort is important for commuters who spend a lot of time on their bike.

The rims also feature the same high-quality construction as the rest of the bike’s components. It’s a Bontrager 550 36-hole alloy rims, which are double-walled to ensure durability.

From experience, I’d say the combination of road bike tires and strong alloy rims make the Trek 7100 an excellent commuter bike.

Saddle and Handlebars

The Trek 7100 has a wide, well-padded saddle that offers great comfort for your backside, especially on longer rides. The flexible suspension seatpost is an added bonus, as it provides additional protection from impacts on the road.

And you can easily customize your riding position to suit your comfort level, since the seat height can be adjusted for a good fit.

trek 730 bike price

The handlebars are Bontrager Approved with a solid steel build and a 50mm rise. This design allows you to ride with a comfortable posture that reduces stress on your shoulders, back, and neck.

Trek 7100 also has an adjustable stem; a great feature that lets you fine-tune your bike’s fitting to your specific needs. The stem allows you to adjust the height of the handlebars, and by doing so, you can achieve a more comfortable riding position for your body type and riding style.

This feature is especially important when you’re going on long rides, as you may need to adjust your position frequently to avoid fatigue.
