Detailed Boracay travel guide with DIY Boracay itinerary with budget including places to see in Boracay.

The sun-drenched Boracay has brazenly succumbed to tourism. It placed the Philippines on the tourists’ radar because of its impeccable palm-fringed, powdery, white shore cuddled by turquoise, warm sea.  But there’s more to Boracay than its world-famous White Beach, the island is also packed water sports activities, beach parties, good food and fruit shakes, and friendly locals to boot.

BORACAY PRE-TRAVEL GUIDE

About boracay.

The influx of tourists in Boracay started sometime in 1970’s, when the it was used as filming locations of the US movies Nam’s Angels and Too Late Hero.  After that, in 1978, German Writer Jens Peter mentioned Boracay as paradise on Earth in his book about the Philippines. Since then, foreign backpackers started to travel to Boracay and it quickly became a budget beach destination. Back in the days, Boracay is just one of the unfamiliar places in the province of Aklan, in the Philippines inhabited by the Ati and Tumandok, the indigenous people of Panay Island who thrive on coconut farming, fishing, and goat raising.

Sadly, as Boracay quickly became one of the world’s best beach destination and developed as a prime tourist destination, the Ati and Tumandok people, the original inhabitants of the island, were displaced on a mere 2.1 hectare walled community. Dexter Condez, the spokesperson of the Boracay Ati Tribal Organization (BATO) was gunned down, and the suspect is a security guard of a popular hotel chain. BATO, accused the management of the hotel and 2 other nearby resorts as allegedly interested in the lot occupied by the Ati people. The hotel strongly denied any involvement in the murder.

It is unfortunate that despite being the original residents of Boracay, the Ati and Tumandok people seem to have lost their rights and place in the island. Over the years, only a few of them work in hotels and restaurants around Boracay, when they should be the first ones benefitting from the influx of tourists there. I have visited other ASEAN countries, and I’ve seen how proud they are of their culture. They found a way to somehow preserve, integrate, and showcase their local culture and the way of life of the indigenous people to help educate visitors. Hopefully, in the near future, tourism in Boracay can create better economic opportunities for the Ati and Tumandok, after all, the island is originally their ancestral territory.

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO VISIT BORACAY?

BORACAY ITINERARY: OFF-PEAK SEASON IN BORACAY

Boracay is a tropical beach destination, its peak season is around late March to May, the summer months in the Philippines. But take note that since it is the peak season, expect the prices of flights and hotels to skyrocket. Also, there are lots of tourists during the summer.  If you want to travel with less tourist, best time to visit Boracay is around January to early March, before the peak season.  August to November is low season, due to the rainy season and typhoons in the Philippines, but prices can be pretty low during this season, so if you want to save on flights and hotels, you can try visiting Boracay at your own risk during this season. Best to check the weather updates before your trip though.

BORACAY WI-FI

While most accommodations, cafes, and restaurants in Boracay offer free internet, having your own pocket Wi-Fi is still recommended. You can connect securely online when you have your own Wi-Fi and you can stay connected online even outside the confines of your resort or hotel.

PHILIPPINES POCKET WI-FI: RENT HERE

Boracay atm.

There are a handful of ATMs in Boracay (BDO, BPI, and Metrobank) and money exchange centers. Best to stack up on cash when in the island because almost everything is on a cash basis. Some establishments and hotels accept major credit cards.

BORACAY DRONE

Is drone allowed in Boracay? NO.  I was told they no longer allow flying drone for personal use.  As for business use, you need to secure a permit at the Municipal Mayor’s Office, fees may apply.

BORACAY SAFETY:

Is it safe to travel to Boracay? Yes, of course. Boracay is a tourist-friendly place and has been receiving tourists from around the world since time immemorial.  Locals here are easy going and pretty friendly.  But you have to understand that lately, due to the pandemic, which led to unemployment and closure of many businesses around the island, many locals are desperate to earn a living, so, please forgive some touts if they can be quite persistent to sell you tours or souvenirs. Thing is, Boracay is heavily dependent on tourism, that’s why the suffered a major blow when Covid-19 struck the world in 2020, because of the travel restrictions imposed by many countries. But overall, Boracay is still a great and safe destination to visit and enjoy, if you are looking to travel soon. It is also safe for solo female travelers, but I’d still recommend visiting in groups since it’s a beach destination that you’d cherish more if you are with your loved one, family, friends, or colleagues.

Where to stay in boracay.

During my multiple visits in Boracay, I stayed at different hotels in different areas. One is located in Station 3, another in Diniwid Beach, and there’s also one in Station 2.  The most convenient  is the one at Station 2 of course, but I also liked my stay at Diniwid Beach it is quiet and the sunset was really great. Meanwhile, what I like about my hotel at Station 3 is, it’s inexpensive.  But my personal favorite is the one hidden in Bulabog Beach – Ferra Hotel and Garden Suites because it is spotless and has excellent customer service.  You can read my full review through the blog link below.

1.swim at boracay white beach.

Mention Boracay and the image of White Beach with Willy’s Rock immediately comes to mind.  This jaw-dropping beach has powdery white shore lapped by a beautiful blend of blue and mint water. Tourists from all over the world are drawn to White Beach, which is now dotted with hotels, restaurants, cafes, bars, and souvenir shops. It is usually pretty busy during the summer months. White Beach deserves its fame, it boasts of the finest sand and definitely one of the best beaches I’ve visited in the Philippines. Even its seafloor has powdery sand, which makes it ideal for swimming.

White Beach is divided into 3 Stations: Station 1, Station 2, and Station 3.  Station 1 and 2 has finer sand compared to Station 3, and it is where most mid-ranged and luxury hotels are located.  That’s where you can find the posted boy of Boracay – Willy’s Rock.  Meanwhile. Station 3 is where most budget hotels are concentrated and is pretty popular to backpackers in Boracay.

3.Boracay Land Tour

If you want to explore other far more peaceful Boracay beaches without taking a boat, you can do so by hiring a tricycle for ₱500 ($10), good for 2-3 persons.  Alternatively, you can also rent an ATV for ₱800 ($17) – ₱1,000 ($21) per unit, good for 2 pax, and visit Mt. Luho Viewpoint. I took a tricycle tour during my last trip to Boracay and I enjoyed it, especially the view of Boracay from Mt. Boracay is well-known for its delicious fruit shake, and Jony’s Fruitshake is the original in the island, founded in 1982.  I was lucky enough to meet the amiable owner of Jony’s Fruitshake – Mr. Dionisio “Jony” Salme, who also owns Maya’s Restaurant, Pig Out Bistro, Jony’s Resort, and Jony’s Boutique Hotel. Jony’s Fruitshake is also served at Maya’s Restaurant and Pig Out Bistro.

Boracay itinerary: Jony's Fruitshake

Mang Jony is the long-time President of Boracay Business Foundation Incorporated (BFI), an organization of business owners in Boracay. He told me how he arrived in Boracay, back in March 2, 1972, when there was no electricity yet in the island. Back then, Boracay is still virtually empty, occupied mostly by Ati and Tumandok indigenous people, and a few foreign backpackers who visit the island occasionally. Mang Jony, who is originally from Pontevedra, Negros Occidental, worked for the Elizalde Group of Companies. But due to the land grabbing issues during the Marcos era, he was assigned to Boracay by his boss to manage the properties of Elizalde Family like the age-old D’Mall and a local radio station. Since there was no electricity yet, they use a generator. Jony’s Fruitshake started when an Austrian Dutch Backpacker who visited Boracay had a blender with him and sold him the blender when he went back to his country.  Apparently, the young guy got tired because there was no place to charge his blender.  Since they have a generator, Mang Jony eventually bought it, but said it was pretty expensive to maintain it since they had to travel all the way to Kalibo, which takes a whole day, just to buy gasoline for the generator to run the blender, to buy ice, and to buy fruits. Fortunately, a co-worker gifted him a refrigerator powered by kerosene where he made ice.  Soon enough, foreign tourists started lining up for his fruit shakes. He then added Mexican food to his menu, like tacos and burritos, since that’s what the foreigners like back then. He set up umbrellas and tables along White Beach, and the rest is history.  Today, you can get Jony’s Fruitshake beside Maya’s Restaurant and at Pig Out Bistro.

6.Boracay Food Trip

Boracay may not be the best place in the Philippines to go on a food trip, but it sure has a handful of relaxed restaurants and cozy cafés that serve both unfussy and creative dishes. Also, take note that because of Covid-19, many restaurants, cafes, and bars have closed. Here’s some of my personal favorites:

boracay travel guide: Pig Out Bistro

  Pig Out Bistro

If you are wondering what Boracay looked like before the arrival of tourists, a huge mural painting inspired by one of the remaining old photos of Boracay taken by Dieter Schrottmann can be seen on the wall of the Pig Out Bistro in Boracay. But aside from the painting, what draws tourists to this tiny café is its ingenious food. Take for example the fresh oysters from Aklan, like the Oyster Mignonette, which, as its name suggests is garnished with mignonette sauce to balance out the brininess of the oyster. My favorite is the Green Oyster relished with herbed compound butter. And there’s also Oyster and Pearl, savored with egg roe, cucumber, and dill. If you’re in a group, try the seafood platter composed of grilled prawns, octopus, and gindara , oyster mignonette, baked oyster, steamed clams, and garlic steamed clams.

Maya’s Restaurant

This good old restaurant has been in Boracay since 1982, it was founded by Mang Dionisio “Jony” the same year as Jony’s Fruitshake. Maya is derived from the local name of a bird and the name of the indigenous people of Mexico – the Mayans, because the resto serves both Filipino and Mexican cuisines.

boracay food trip

The palm-fringed Maya Restaurant is a beach-front diner located in White Beach Station 1 in Boracay, in front of Jony’s Hotel and beside Jony’s Fruitshake. It exudes an airy, tropical atmosphere and the interior is decked with modern-designed rattan chairs where you can sit snugly while sipping your favorite Jony’s Fruitshake.

The dishes here are also created by Chef Jun Salme of the Pig Out Bistro. The Mexican flavors include: Tacos Al Pastor , comprised of homemade fresh corn tortilla, slow-cooked pork, avocado, beans, onions, and cilantro rice. The Carnitas Burrito was inspired by the shared recipe of a former Mexican Ambassador to the Philippines.  Meanwhile, some of my favorite Filipino cuisines at Maya’s Restaurant are the Kansi – softened beef bone marrow stewed in lemon grass, ginger, and batwan , and of course, the Lechon Kawali – the popular pork belly served in small kawali , which is oven-steamed to preserve the crunchiness of the skin and the juiciness of the fat.

Other Places to Eat in Boracay

Nonie’s restaurant: reserve here, station x dip and dine experience: reserve here, 7.boracay sunset watching.

The sunset of Boracay is legendary.  It is a big attraction on the island, while enjoying your fruit shake or beer at a beach-front café or a nearby swanky restaurant.

BORACAY TRAVEL GUIDE: PARAW SAILING

But if you want an extraordinary sunset watching experience, try the Boracay Paraw Sailing tours during sunset.  In the Philippines, “paraw” is a term for small boat with two katig (outrigger) that is propelled by sail. And there’s a plethora of paraw boats on the beach of Boracay used for sunset watching activity.  Paraw can accommodate up to 8-10 persons. Basically, you will ride the paraw and glide along the cerulean sea during sunset. Book ahead below to reserve a seat.

8.boracay pub crawl.

Boracay is well-known for its night life.  Back in the days, during my first time in the island we met some friendly fire dancers who took us to local bars in the island where locals party like there’s no tomorrow. Nowadays, if you’re into party scenes, best to join the Boracay Pub Crawl where an experienced local guide will take you different popular bars in Boracay and get free shots and special drinks at every stop while still enjoying different activities.

9.buy boracay souvenirs.

boracay souvenirs

For a beach destination, Boracay is surprisingly a shopping haven, oozing with boutiques, souvenir shops, restaurants, cafes, and bistros. Its compact downtown area is perfect for shopping, strolling, and people-watching at an outdoor cafe. There are also souvenir stores in Puka Beach selling all kinds of beach outfits and Boracay souvenirs made of local materials.

  10. Boracay Side Trip

While in Boracay, you can actually make day trips to neighboring tourist destinations.

Cliff Diving at Ariel’s Point

This popular tourist destination in Buruanga, Aklan is hugged by emerald and turquoise water and swimming holes hemmed in by rock formations. It’s often crowded with tourists, mostly foreigners, who want to try cliff diving from its 5 different diving boards starting at 3 meters to 15 meters high. If you’re not into cliff diving, Ariel’s Point Day Tour Package includes: paddle boarding, snorkeling, kayaking along Buruanga coast, and sunbathing with a scenic view of the Sulu Sea. A day trip here already includes a buffet lunch (traditional dishes), merienda (afternoon snack), and unlimited drinks (beers, rum, soda, mixed drinks, and water). If you book Ariel’s Point Day Tour Package below, it already includes a boat transfer to and from Boracay. Pick up from Boracay is around 11:15 AM, and return to Boracay is around 5:00 PM, so you have the whole day to spend at Ariel’s Point. You can book at least a day in advance through the link below to secure a slot since this is a popular destination.

ARIEL’S POINT DAY TOUR: RESERVE HERE

Carabao island.

If there’s one day trip from Boracay that I would recommend, it’s Carabao Island. I’ve spent a few days in this tiny quiet island, far from the trappings of commercialization, and I loved it. But if you don’t have much time to spend, you can book a day tour to Carabao Island.

And if you have the luxury of time after your Boracay trip, you can also visit other equally charming neighboring provinces.

Gigantes Island

If you still can’t get enough of the beach and islands, head to Gigantes Island, a group of islands off the coast of Carles in Northern Iloilo. Gigantes Island is speckled with islands and islets covered by dramatic rock formations, rough-hewn coves, and emerald lagoons. How to get to Boracay

Boracay Island is located in Aklan province. It is close to 2 international airports: Caticlan and Kalibo. From either airport, you need to travel to Caticlan Jetty Port where you’ll ride a ferry to the island.

Caticlan is considered the main gateway to Boracay, as it is only 30 minutes away from the island. From Caticlan Airport, there are tricycles waiting to take you to the jetty port. Fare is P50 per person.

You can book your transfer from Caticlan Airport to your hotel via Klook.

Kalibo is a popular option among budget travelers. It is located about 2 hours away from Boracay Island. From Kalibo Airport, there are vans bound to the port. Fare is around P250-300 per person.

You can book your transfer from Kalibo Airport to your hotel via Klook.

Once you arrive in Caticlan Jetty Port, pay the registration fees and secure a boat ticket. The boat transfer to Boracay takes about 15 minutes. Ferries are available daily, from 4AM to 10PM.

Once you arrive at Boracay Island, there are e-trikes waiting to take you to Station 1, 2, or 3. You can share a ride with other passengers or charter the whole tricycle. Fare is P30 per person if sharing and P150 per ride if chartering the whole e-trike.

Take note that drivers can only drop off passengers along the main roads, so if you are booked in a beachfront accommodation, you may still need to walk. If carrying heavy luggage, considering booking transfers from your hotel.

Where to Stay in Boracay

Boracay is famous for its 3-kilometer stretch of fine-sand beach called White Beach. White Beach is divided into three stations: Station 1, Station 2, and Station 3. You can walk this stretch — it will take about 30 minutes from Station 1 to Station 3.

Boracay Beach Station 1

Station 1 is the best place to stay in the island. It is quiet, relaxing, and home to high-end beachfront resorts. It’s also where you can find the famous Willy’s Rock.

Station 2 is the main tourist hub in Boracay. It’s the best option if you want to stay in the middle of everything. It has numerous shops, cafes and restaurants, and activities. It offers a mix of mid- and high-end accommodations.

Read our review of Henann Park Resort in Station 2.

Kat in Henann Park Resort

Station 3 is ideal for budget tourists who want to stay in a quiet part of Boracay. Although this area has fewer commercial establishments, the beach is uncrowded and it only takes a few minutes to get to Station 2 by foot.

Aside from these stations, there is also Station Zero where you can private luxury resorts such as Crimson Resort and Spa Boracay. If you are looking for other relaxing places to stay, there are also alternative beaches and mountainside resorts you can book in the island. If you’re a solo tourist looking to mingle, you can also find party hostels in Boracay .

Top Things to Do in Boracay

Here are the best activities you can do in Boracay.

Boracay Island in the Philippines

The main reason you’re visiting Boracay is to experience its famous shores, so pack up a towel and sunscreen and sunbathe, swim, or just watch the beautiful paraw sail boats along the shore. Don’t forget to witness the island’s sunset, which is said to be one of the best sunset spots in Asia .

Island hopping is one of the popular activities in Boracay. This activity takes around 5 hours and may cover the following: Puka Beach, Coral Garden (snorkeling), Magic Island, Crystal Cove, Crocodile Beach, Ilig-Iligan Beach, and Ariel’s Point (cliff-diving) .

Book an island hopping tour via Klook.

Similar to an island hopping tour, a land tour via e-trike will take you to the best spots in the island, including Puka Beach. Other land tour destinations include Tambisaan Beach (with picture taking in a kawa), Bulabog Beach, Keyhole, New Coast Beach, and/or Ilig-Iligan Beach.

You won’t run out of outdoor activities to do in Boracay, whether it’s a chill one such as parawsailing or something more adventurous such as helmet diving , parasailing , paddle boarding, jet ski, banana boating, and more.

In addition, the island is also a favorite of windsurfers and kitesurfers due to excellent wind conditions. Divers will also appreciate the plentiful dive sites around Boracay. Over 20 are located only a short boat ride away and advanced divers can access world-class sites such as Yapak Wall, Virgin Drop, Camia, Tribird, Punta Bunga, and Crocodile Island.

One of the newest activities offered in the island is crystal kayaking. A guide will take you out to sea so you can pose for some social media snaps with the clear water of Boracay in the backdrop.

Finally, if you’re looking for something unique, Boracay also offers mermaid swimming lessons!

Boracay Island is a haven for different restaurants, so you can always find a place to satisfy your cravings. Whether it’s for traditional Filipino cuisine or else Chinese, Japanese, Mexican, Mediterranean, Indian — you’ll find it in the island.

Of course, a Boracay food trip won’t be complete without going to a seafood restaurant for fresh oysters, clams, and other local harvests.

Here are the current rates for the activities in Boracay ( Updated as of 2023 ).

A lot of the activities vary in price because there are no standard rates, so you might find differences in tens to hundreds of pesos depending on the tour agency or vendor. It’s best to compare prices when you’re in the island.

Where to eat in Boracay

One thing that you’ll find about Boracay is everything is expensive, especially the food. So it’s best to prepare your wallet if you want to explore the culinary scene in the island.

Cafe Maruja in Boracay

Here are some of our favorite restaurants:

  • Nalka Seafood Restaurant . This open-air restaurant offers unlimited seafood buffet . Ideal for sunset dining for the beautiful sunset views. Loc: Station 1.
  • Café Maruja . This restaurant serves delicious Buddha bowls and tropical smoothie bowls. Loc: Station 1.
  • Nagisa Japanese Restaurant . An underrated restaurant that serves amazing Japanese food like sashimi, curry, etc. Loc: Station 3.

Check out this updated list of Must-Eat Restaurants in Boracay .

You should also check out popular stalls such as Coco Mama (ice cream in a coconut bowl) and Jonah’s Fruit Shakes in Station 2.

One of the most commonly asked questions when visiting Boracay is where to find budget restaurants? Most restaurants in the island have expensive menu because the ingredients have to be brought in by boats, but there are still plenty of budget options.

Fast food restaurants like Jollibee , McDonalds , and Mang Inasal are popular dining options. There are also small restaurants that offer good food at reasonable rates, such as Meze Wrap and BunBun . The island also has ordinary eateries often located in small alleys that offer rice meals and silogs.

Meze Wrap - one of the best restaurants in Boracay | Boracay food trip

When in Boracay, you should try fresh seafood!

If you want to go on tradition, head to D’Talipapa where you can buy fresh seafood from wet market stalls and have them cooked in a restaurant (aka paluto service).

There are also Boracay buffet restaurants where you can indulge in seafood and local delicacies. Nalka Seafood Restaurant offers unlimited seafood buffet. Henann Crystal Sands Resort also offers seafood buffet dinner, while Henann Regency Resort and Spa is said to have the best buffet in the island which includes seafood and other options.

Nalka Seafood Restaurant in Boracay

Night life in Boracay was toned down after its rehabilitation and new regulations were put in place (i.e., drinking is no longer allowed in the beach), but you can still enjoy a night out in the island.

Head to OM Boracay Bar , Kasbar Boracay , and 360 Lounge Bar for drinks and performances. Certain spots such as Wave Bar and Lounge also have fire dance performances.

Buy your pasalubong at D’Mall , a huge open-air commercial space where you can find various shops and souvenir stalls, as well as cafes and restaurants. It is hard to find pasalubong outside of Boracay.

  • When is the best time to visit : Boracay is a popular destination all-year-round, so expect that there will always be a lot of tourists in the island. That saying, it’s off-peak season starts from July to November . During this period, you can score hotel and resort discounts. February and the shoulder season from late May to early June are also lean periods. If you arrive during peak season (summer and holidays), expect long lines in activities such as island hopping, helmet diving, etc.
  • How to get around : You can walk from Station 1 to Station 3. Trikes is also a common transport.
  • ATMs : There are ATMs in the island. A lot of establishments also accept GCash.

Here are important travel tips to Boracay before you go.

  • Don’t forget to bring your OOTDs and reef-friendly sunscreen in your beach packing list !
  • A lot of vendors will approach you to offer tours and activities. It may feel pushy and annoying. Just firmly decline if you are not interested.
  • Beware of common “scams” in the island. Always ask for the full price when going to a seafood paluto, especially if you are asking the restaurant to do the shopping for you. Ask for the additional fees in island tours, since entrance fees are often not included in published rates. You should also be careful when getting hair braids — some vendor will quote a price and then ask additional money for the actual braids used. Lastly, you may get approached by locals offering free buffet or lunch — what they won’t tell you is that you will need to attend a 2-hour presentation for a membership program to get these free lunches.
  • Lastly, it is easy to visit Boracay DIY. But packaged tours are also worth considering, since it’s easy and you can even get discounts if you’re in a group.

  • Local Currency : Philippine Peso (PHP). While there are ATMs on the island, it’s good to have some cash on hand.
  • Credit or Debit Cards : Notify your bank of your travel dates to avoid any issues.
  • Travel Insurance Details .

Miscellaneous :

  • Reusable Water Bottle : Stay hydrated and reduce plastic waste.
  • Small Backpack : For day trips or excursions.
  • Book or Magazine : For beach reading.
  • Travel Pillow : For the journey.
  • Snacks : Especially if you have specific dietary preferences or needs.

Packing Tips :

  • Pack Light : Boracay is a casual destination, and you won’t need a lot of heavy clothing.
  • Use Packing Cubes : They help organize your luggage and save space.
  • Check Restrictions : If you’re flying to Boracay, especially on a domestic flight, check baggage weight limits and restrictions.

Sunscreen, especially well-known international brands, can be pricier on Boracay. It’s also beneficial to bring reef-safe sunscreen to protect marine life. Similarly, branded insect repellents might cost more on the island. If you have specific toiletry preferences, such as particular brands of shampoos, conditioners, or lotions, consider bringing them, as specialized or international brands might be pricier in tourist areas.

Alcoholic beverages, especially imported wines, spirits, and certain beers, can be more expensive on Boracay than in larger cities like Manila or Cebu. If you have a preference for specific snacks or dietary needs, it might be a good idea to bring them with you, as imported snacks or specific brands can be pricier.

Always bring essential medications with you. While basic medications are available in local pharmacies, specific brands or specialized medicines might be more expensive or harder to find on the island. Swimwear and beachwear, especially branded or specialized items, might come at a premium in Boracay.

Electronics and accessories, such as chargers, earphones, memory cards, or camera accessories, can be more expensive on the island, and finding specific brands or models might be harder. If you’re into specific water sports or activities, consider bringing specialized gear, like snorkeling or diving equipment, as they might be pricier to rent or buy on the island.

Having a reusable water bottle can save you money in the long run and reduce plastic waste. English-language books or international magazines can be pricier and have limited availability on Boracay.

If you’re transiting through larger cities like Manila, Cebu, or Iloilo before heading to Boracay, it might be more economical to purchase essential items there. Local brands or alternatives might be available at more reasonable prices on the island for some products. For instance, local rums and beers are often more affordable than imported alcoholic beverages. In some shops or stalls, especially those not displaying fixed prices, polite bargaining might help you get a better deal.

By being aware of these potential price differences and planning accordingly, you can ensure a more budget-friendly trip to Boracay. Remember, while this list is comprehensive, you should tailor it to your specific needs and the activities you plan to do in Boracay. Safe travels!

The Provincial Government of Aklan has recently made an exciting announcement – they have waved off the submission of hotel vouchers as a necessary requirement for entering Boracay Island.

To simplify the process, tourists simply have to swing by the Tourist Registration Center at Jetty Port before heading to the Payment Counter and hop aboard the Seacraft of their choice – no hotel voucher required!

Travelers are strongly urged to choose accommodation establishments accredited by the Department of Tourism (DOT) to guarantee their safety and peace of mind. By doing so, tourists can enjoy their vacation on the renowned island without any hassles and rest assured that their well-being is being prioritized.

100 Must Brings When You Visit Boracay (Checklists For Millennials and Gen Z Tourists)

Table of contents.

Everything will be more accessible when you tour Boracay if you know what you need to do and what to have. Going to Boracay for the first time can get quite overwhelming and stressful, especially when you need to start packing your things. One might even wonder if they need to bring a certain item or just let it be. More importantly, for Millennials and Gen Z visiting Boracay, who have so many things in mind in the prospect of travel, remembering all of them is nearly impossible. Here are some checklists of what to bring that Millennials and Gen Z tourists can use as reference when visiting Boracay.

The Sunset of Boracay makes a great Instagram background for today's Millennials and gen Z tourists. (Image credit: Freepik)

For context, Millenials and Gen Z are the people born from 1981 to 2012. Essentially, they are the younger folks in terms of age. They are the new pillars of society, so having a vacation should be the time to recharge and wellness. One cannot do it if one forgets some essentials. Having all the items that you need will save you a big chunk of resources for the duration of your Boracay visit. To save you some slack, here are 100 things that you need to bring on your next Boracay escapade.

Boracay First Aid Kits and Emergency Medicines Checklists for Millennials

1) disposal gloves.

For no-wash hands, you might want to bring some disposal gloves during your Boracay trip. This will prevent cross-contamination between you and whatever you need to touch. Short-length and wrist-length types of gloves should be the ones that you have in your first aid kit. Remember to dispose of the used ones properly after one usage.

For example, if you are cleaning a minor wound on the knee, before anything else, you should wear gloves to avoid any complications resulting from the contact. There may also be sharp shells that may prick your foot. Using gloves is also important in removing these from the affected area.

2) Calamine Lotion

Calamine lotion is a medication best for mild cases of itchiness and rashes. You need to apply it whenever you are suffering from sunburn, insect bites, and other minor skin irritations on the beaches of Boracay. The most common active ingredient in these items is usually the combination of iron oxide and zinc oxide. They are over-the-counter medications, so everyone will be able to buy them.

After an entire day of traveling Boracay and you have felt a minor discomfort in different parts of your body, apply the calamine lotion generously to ease the swelling or rashes. Constantly remember that you are in a new location and a lot of things that can irritate you are unknowable.

3) Hand Sanitizer

Keep yourself clean and safe from bacteria and germs by constantly sanitizing your hand. In the time of covid, a hand sanitizer is a must-include in any checklists, especially for any Boracay tourists not only Millennials and Gen Zs.

There are thousands of tourists in Boracay, so it’s always good to be cautious. Remember to pick a sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol content. As you use it, gently coat your palms and every finger. Rub it all over your hands until such time that it naturally dries.

Whenever you touch something as you are shopping on the streets, apply hand sanitizer since many people may have also touched those items. After eating, if there is no running water in the area, use your sanitizer.

To prevent contamination of some open wounds caused by injuries from water activities, isopropyl alcohol is a necessary commodity. This is also a good substitute for sanitizers. In fact, rubbing alcohol is considered a natural antibacterial therapy. This implies that it kills germs but does not necessarily stop them from multiplying. Rubbing alcohol can also kill fungus and viruses. However, it’s critical to use a rubbing alcohol solution with a concentration of at least 50% for greater effectiveness.

You can also use rubbing alcohol when sanitizing your own items such as cellphones, chargers, and your other travel essentials. The right time to use it is before leaving or after going to a public place in Boracay. Make it a habit since viruses are still lurking.

The good thing about Band-Aid is that there are variants for different skin types. Therefore, for minor wounds that you might have after a day of intense activities, this item is the answer. 68) waterproof phone case.

The finest waterproof phone covers also keep sand, dust, and debris out, as well as offer some drop protection. They provide substantially greater water resistance than even the greatest smartphones, and many of them float, allowing you to quickly retrieve your phone if it falls into the Boracay sea. Having this item on your backpack will save you the hassle of finding stores that sells them at a higher cost. This case will protect your phone as you ride along the rapid waves of the island or as you try to do some underwater photography for your improvised travel magazine.

69) Beer Chiller Sticks

There’s nothing to beat a cold beer. To preserve the chill and coolness of your beverages, invest in a chiller stick that will maintain it even after many hours. Beer chiller sticks need to be frozen and then you place them into your beer bottle or cup to cool it down or maintain it at a comfortable temperature while you drink. They won’t take a beer from room temperature to straight to freezing, but they’ll do the trick if you only want to cool it down a few degrees. Nonetheless, it will make a huge difference since the warmth of the sun goes perfectly cool with a refreshing drink.

70) Insulated Water Bottles

Insulated water bottles are stainless steel bottles that have been vacuum-sealed and can hold heat or cold regardless of the ambient temperature. Insulated bottles are one of the most trendy commodities for Millennials and Gen Z tourists. Finding a good water bottle is as important as the beverage inside it. This will be your travel companion as you wander around the island.

Be if you want a sip of your rich Aklanon coffee to drink during your horseback ride in the morning or you just want a cold soda to accompany you during your boating, an insulated water bottle will help you do the job.

71) Insulated Tote Bags

While thermoses and insulated lunch boxes rely on a vacuum produced between the outer and inner layers to prevent energy loss, insulated lunch bags use a solid foam core layer to keep food and drinks warm or cold—the greater the insulation, the thicker and denser the foam. The foam layer stops heat from seeping through to the outer layer, preventing cold or heat from reaching the contents of the bag.

There will be a time that you will choose to eat a culinary meal from Station 2 for your day trip. This is where tote bags will enter. They will be the safety storage that will help maintain the deliciousness of your food.

72) Sunscreen Lotion

Sunscreens are lotions that help to protect your skin from the sun’s damaging rays. They protect you from sunburn and early aging (such as wrinkles leathery skin). Sunscreens also aid in the prevention of skin cancer and sunburn-like skin responses. Sunspots and skin damage may appear as a result of repeated sun exposure without protection. Sunburns might take a few days or longer to cure. Sunscreen will be your precaution to prevent irritating rashes after a long day at the beach.

Therefore, whenever you have an activity anywhere in Boracay, apply sunscreen generously on your skin. Even without sun or on cloudy days, it is still best to use sunscreen since the UV is still present even without direct sunlight.

73) Beach Blanket

Laying down on the beach while stargazing is a relaxing way to spend your time. Use a beach blanket for a more comfortable and safe stay on the sands. A beach blanket is a huge piece of cloth that you can use as a mat on the beach. People will be able to relax and claim the beach as their own with this blanket. While having fun in the sun, the beach blanket helps to establish a barrier between you and the sand and other debris. There are specific classifications of beach blankets that are available in the market. There is a Turkish Towel that is very soft, a sand resistant one that will never attach a single grain, a beach mat that is solid, and a microfiber that is extremely portable.

74) Duffel Bags

The phrase duffel bag originally referred to a single form of bag that was big, cylindrical, and closed at the top by a drawstring or zipper. However, the name “duffel” (or “duffle”) bag has come to refer to any big “hold all” bag constructed of thick fabric throughout time. Duffel bags are the perfect Boracay beach bags for a day excursion due to its size. This is where you can place all your necessity for the day. All the needed accessories, gadgets, snacks will be able to fit in this industrial bag.

75) Small Bag

A new revolution in the fashion world is how huge items are now available into mini versions. Many celebrities have tried sporting is a cute accessory, and it is now becoming the new thing for most Boracay tourists. Small bags are for the short trips that you’ll go for, like your DMall shopping spree or eating out at a nearby restaurant. You won’t be filling it with items that you won’t really need. For many, all it should contain are cash, your phone, and a cosmetic that you cannot go without. From a vacationer’s perspective, it is truly easier and effortless.

76) Toothbrush

A toothbrush is an oral hygiene tool that people use to clean the gums, teeth, and tongue. It consists of tightly clumped bristles. It has a handle that facilitates the reach of areas that are commonly hidden in the mouth. This is commonly accompanied by toothpaste.

As a traveler, you deserve to have the best cleaning agent for your oral health. Always consider the size of the brush head, the softness of the bristles, the type, and it should be specifically approved by the health authority. With this, a healthy mouth and teeth are assured after eating many scrumptious meals for your Boracay staycation.

77) Mouthwash

Sometimes, a toothbrush and toothpaste are not enough for a thorough scout of your mouth. For a fresher breath, choose to have a pocket mouthwash. Oral rinse, often known as mouthwash, is a liquid preparation that is used to rinse your teeth, gums, and mouth. It generally has an antiseptic in it to destroy bacteria that dwell between your teeth and on your tongue. Mouthwash, alongside regular brushing, is a great way to combat bad breath, while others use it to attempt to prevent tooth decay. Use it whenever you are meeting someone, when you have just finished your meal, or when you just feel like it.

78) Moisturizer

A tiring day at the beaches of Boracay can take a toll on your skin. A moisturizer for the face is a lotion, cream emulsion, ointment, or balm prepared with emollients to keep skin moisturized. Moisturizers help keeps the skin’s superficial layers healthy. They seal the skin, keeping moisture and nutrients while protecting it from outside allergens. Moisturizing while on your vacation might help to prevent excessive dryness or oiliness. Both extremes are damaging to the skin and can lead to acne and other skin problems. Opt for a tried and tested moisturizer for bright and glowing skin that can make people turn their heads.

79) Hair Brush

A hairbrush is another tool to fix your hair. With so many various hairbrushes and combs to choose from, it might be difficult to decide which one is best for you. You might wish to use a specific brush depending on your hair type. For one, a hair detangler brush is for those with curly hair. Wet hair brushes are for those who have less time to fix their hair. Regardless of which, the only thing needed is the dedication to fix your hair. Style your hair with an accompaniment of different accessories for an exquisite look that you can sport wherever you are in Boracay.

80) Styling Tools

This will come in handy when you are attending a celebration in Boracay with a semi-formal theme. Styling tools include a hair blower and a hair iron. These two will let you achieve straight, silky, and volumized hair that can make you look like you have gone to a hair salon. These tools will give you the best coif for any party that you will be attending.

Choose to buy the mini or portable versions so they will not be consuming too much of your baggage during the travel.

81) Eye Mask

Some might have a problem sleeping in a continuous manner. Even for those heavy sleepers, a new location may prove to be a hurdle for an extended rest. A sleep mask, often known as an eye mask, is a simple, low-cost device that helps you sleep better by blocking out light. Artificial light, especially late at night, inhibits the body’s natural melatonin and can disrupt sleep. Melatonin is a hormone that tells your brain when it’s time to sleep. An eye mask will help with eliminating visual disturbances that will distract your sleep throughout the night. As a bonus, you will be able to sleep even in a well-lighted area.

82) Disposable Wipes

Disposable wipes are handy for a variety of purposes, including baby care, hand cleaning, feminine and other personal cleansing, removing makeup, and applying deodorants and sunless tanners. Many wipes are classified as cosmetics, but not all. It has a multitude of uses when you are outside of your island resort hotel. You can use it to wipe the dirt off your face, clean surfaces as you eat, and even when you need to use the bathroom at any time. Having to go to a public place is an unprecedented situation. Do not forget your wipes so you can go all the way comfortably.

83) Beach Towels

A linen beach towel swiftly absorbs moisture and dries quickly. It is inherently antimicrobial, so it eliminates rather than promotes smells as you use it in your body. This useful item is small and light enough to fold into the size of a beach book. Therefore, you can bring it every time you fancy a swim or a dip in a private pool. It is long-lasting and softens with each wash, so it will only get better. Two-person can fit in one beach towel, so you do not need one for each of the travelers.

Most Boracay hotels provide free towels and linens for their guests’ use. Best to bring your own towels if you have specific allergens to generic laundry soap or fabric conditioners.

84) Face Masks

This has been one of the most important items in this pandemic era. One of the most efficient ways to stop the virus from spreading is to wear a face mask or another face covering that covers your mouth and nose. The face-covering helps to prevent the infection from spreading by trapping viral particles in respiratory droplets.

Face masks are as effective when they are properly worn – over your nose and mouth – and managed. Always have a whole box of face masks so you can have a supply for the entire duration of your Boracay stay. Wear it when going outside and always follow the regulations set by the local government unit.

85) Light Snacks

Snacks are little portions of food you can eat between meals. Snacks are available in a number of formats, including packaged snack foods and other processed foods, as well as items prepared at home using fresh ingredients. Undoubtedly, they are essential while traveling since they are like the first aid of the stomach. As an example, you will need snacks as you go island hopping, or you just had an urge for a late-night craving.

Make the most out of Boracay and choose traditional delicacies that can also be a snack. Dilis and dried mango will surely make you buy for more as you have tasted its deliciousness.

86) Reusable Utensils

Plastic and disposable items are not sustainable. Boracay is part of an initiative that will support a cleaner and greener alternative for different enterprises. Help by participating in campaigning a sustainable habit for every visitor. Go green by purchasing disposable utensils that will aid you every single time. One of the recommended ones is the stainless and bamboo kinds. The wood kinds are favorable since they are biodegradable and reusable. The stainless ones are reusable for many months. Not only does it help you be hygienic, but it also helps the environment a lot.

87) Lightweight Beach Umbrella

Sunshades are another name for beach umbrellas. These umbrellas are large enough, with sizes ranging from 6 to 13 feet. The objective of these umbrellas is to offer you much-needed sun protection. When you’re at the beach, you can unwind peacefully under them. They are collapsible so that you can carry them about with ease. They also have an anchor that will be sand-hooked as you settle on a single location. There is also a wide option to choose from but always choose the ones that can withstand UV rays. This is another protection while relaxing on the shoreline of the island.

88) SPF Lip Balm

Lips, like the rest of your body, will also need protection from the sun’s harnful rays. In fact, they are more susceptible and prone to damage since the cover layer is thin and fragile compared to other body parts. SPF lip balms are considered a daily need since they help shield lips from skin cancer, aging, and dryness.

To select the best SPF lip balm, look for products with at least SPF 30 and extremely moisturizing ingredients that will leave your lips smooth and supple. Depending on your lip and skin sensitivity, you may want to avoid strongly fragranced alternatives since they may irritate your lips and cause allergic reactions.

When worn, the tube extends above the water’s surface and permits swimming or continuous use of a face mask without lifting the head to breathe. Remember that you will also be placing it in your mouth, so it’s better to be sure of where it really came from. Essentially, if you buy your own, you can use it at any time the urge of snorkeling hits you, even in your hotel’s pools.

Along with the summer sun comes a lot of opportunities to broaden your mind with new information from a book. Having a good book is like having good company with a lot of stories to tell. Find one that you are eagerly anticipating reading. Whether it is a juicy novel, inspiring non-fiction, or a magical exploration into a different dimension, everything will be a fulfilling pursuit. How To Get To Boracay Island

Boracay, Philippines

Note that Caticlan Airport is now often called Boracay Airport . This is exactly the same airport. There is no airport on Boracay itself and this is the closest airport to the island.

The airlines flying into Caticlan include Cebu Pacific, Cebgo, Philippine Airlines and AirAsia. From the airport, ride a tricycle or van that will take you to the Caticlan Jetty.  At the jetty, there are small bangkas or boats that will take you directly to the island. It’s only takes 10-15 minutes by boat to reach Boracay.

It’s also possible to take the ferry and bus if you prefer instead of flying. You can also choose to fly into Kalibo Airport.

In the rest of this article, I break down exactly how to do all of these things.

No matter which way you decide to get to Boracay, whether it’s by bus, ferry or flight, you need to get to Caticlan and then take a quick boat ride across to Boracay Island itself.

Getting To Boracay By Plane

Kalibo International Airport

For first-time travelers, it can be confusing to work out how to reach Boracay. Since there are no direct flights to the island, the best way to visit is to fly to either Kalibo or Caticlan Airport – the nearest airport to Boracay island.

From Boracay/Caticlan Airport, it’s only 500 meters away via tricycle or van to Caticlan Jetty.  Whereas from Kalibo Airport, you still need to take a 1.5 – 2 hour van or bus trip to Caticlan Jetty. From Caticlan Jetty, it’s just a short 10-15 minute boat ride to Boracay island which is described in detail below.

If you’re flying from Manila, the Philippine capital, the flight to Caticlan will take an hour.

Meanwhile, if you’re coming from the Visayas’ islands, there are direct flights to Caticlan from Cebu’s Mactan International Airport. These flights only take an hour as well.

Another alternative is to take a bus to Boracay. You will need a bus that goes to Caticlan.

This is the way to go if you are already on the island of Panay going from cities such as Iloilo or Roxas City. You can take local buses cheaply and easily to Caticlan for the boat to Boracay.

If you are on a different island, you can look for a RoRo, also known as a “Roll On – Roll Off”, bus.

These buses take you across land parts of the Philippines as well as on ferries across the seas.

You can find options here for the latest bus timetables and ticket prices.

Note that for shorter local buses, you’ll need to buy tickets once you are there from the bus terminals.

Boracay Island: All You Need To Know

travel documents going to boracay

Boracay Island is a major tourist destination in the Philippines, and for good reasons. It is full of natural beauty, inspiring beaches, and a vibrant nightlife. Although it may be small, spanning just 10.32 square kilometers, the island offers a wide range of attractions that draw visitors from far and wide. And today, we’ll tell you all about it.

In this post, we’ll share:

  • What to do in Boracay Island
  • How to reach Boracay Island
  • The best month to visit Boracay Island
  • Boracay travel requirements in 2023

Ready? Let’s get started.

What to Do in Boracay Island

There are countless activities you can enjoy on this dream island. Yet, in this section, we’ll provide you with a quick overview of them.

Some of the most popular activities in Boracay include:

  • Enjoying the beaches
  • Scuba diving and observing fantastic marine life
  • Cliff-jumping at Ariel’s point cliff
  • Hop around the surrounding islands (we recommend booking a tour)
  • Getting beachside professional massages
  • Engaging in water sports like kayaking, paddleboarding, jet skiing, parasailing, and flyboarding
  • Mount Luho Viewpoint (the highest peak in Boracay; you can hike or ride a motorbike to the summit)

Let’s take a closer look at all the beaches you can visit in Boracay, what you can do on each of them, and the current beach rules.

Beaches in Boracay Island

Boracay is known for its awe-inspiring beaches. White Beach is the most popular destination given its prime location in the center of the island and outstanding beauty.

White Beach is divided into three sections:

  • Station 1: Here you’ll find most resorts and hotels
  • Station 2: Here you’ll find restaurants, coffee shops, clubs, and shops.
  • Station 3: You’ll find lots of greenery here.

However, it’s worth noting that White Beach tends to be the most crowded due to its popularity. Fortunately, there are several other nearby white sand beaches that offer a more serene and relaxed atmosphere, making them great alternatives for those seeking a less crowded beach experience.

Besides the White Beach, some of Boracay’s beaches include:

  • Puka Shell Beach : the second most visited beach after White Beach
  • Balinghai Beach : small private beach owned by Balinghai Resort. Non-guests can access the beach by paying an entrance fee that includes consumable food from the restaurant.
  • Bulabog Beach : great for beach sports like windsurfing, parasailing, and kiteboarding.
  • Cagban Beach : This beach is the main port of the island, but you can find quiet spots to relax.
  • Crocodile Beach : located in the southeast part of Boracay, this beach is full of marine life and a great spot for underwater activities like snorkeling.
  • Diniwid Beach: located close to White Beach’s station 1, this beach has amazing cliffside views.
  • Iligan-Iligan Beach : This spot has the same white sand feature as White Beach, and it has some picturesque limestone islets that can be explored. Besides, it’s an amazing place for snorkeling.
  • Manoc-Manoc Beach : Here you’ll find a lot of locals; however, it might not be as picturesque as other beaches.
  • Tambisaan Beach : Near the shore, you can find coral gardens and reefs. So, this is an ideal spot for snorkeling!
  • Tulubhan Beach : Scattered along the beach, you’ll find local villages whose inhabitants rely on the sea to gather seafood. It is a good destination for a tranquil getaway.

Boracay’s Beach Rules

In order to maintain the cleanliness of its beaches, Boracay has implemented certain regulations, which include:

  • Eating and drinking on the beach isn’t allowed
  • Pets are banned
  • Single-use plastics on the beach are prohibited
  • You can’t build sandcastles or sand structures on the beach without prior approval from the appropriate authorities.

The Best Month to Visit Boracay Island

The best months to visit Boracay Island are from November to May, during the dry season. This is also the peak season in the Philippines, so you’ll find a lot of visitors.

During these months, you can enjoy a wide range of activities. The White Beach remains calm, providing a good opportunity for swimming, lounging, and enjoying the beach. On the other side of the island, you’ll find strong winds that create favorable conditions for windsurfing and surfing.

It’s worth mentioning that you can still enjoy Boracay during the rainy season (from June to October). You’ll find lower prices and fewer crowds. Most days will be sunny; however, there are chances of typhoons.

How to Reach Boracay Island

As you may already know, the Philippines is an archipelago of 7,641 islands. So, you’ll hardly find roads or trains that connect them. The only way to reach Boracay Island is by plane.

There are two airports close to the island:

  • Godofredo P. Ramos Airport (also known as Caticlan Airport)
  • Kalibo International Airport

Reaching Boracay from Godofredo P. Ramos Airport

The closest airport to Boracay Island is Caticlan Airport, which is located just 7 kilometers away. After landing, you’ll need to reach Caticlan Jetty Port, which is just a 10-minute walk from the airport. From there, you can board a boat to Boracay, which typically costs around 4 USD. You’ll reach Boracay in 15 minutes.

Moreover, as Caticlan Airport is small, there may not be many flights landing here, and airfares may be higher than at Kalibo International Airport.

Reaching Boracay from Kalibo International Airport

Flying to Kalibo International Airport is generally cheaper. In fact, most promo fares are applied to flights landing here. However, it is worth noting that this airport is the farthest from Boracay Island, approximately 60 kilometers away. Upon arrival, you’ll need to embark on a bus or van ride that typically takes around 1.5 to 2 hours to reach Caticlan Jerry Port. From there, you can take a 15min. boat ride to reach beautiful Boracay.

Travel Requirements for Boracay 2023

The Philippines has recently updated its COVID travel requirements for inbound travelers. Now, fully vaccinated travelers can enter the country by presenting a certificate (in English) as proof of vaccination. Meanwhile, partially vaccinated or unvaccinated individuals must present a negative PCR test taken 24 hours before their departure. It is also mandatory for all travelers to register on the eTravel Platform at least 72 hours prior to their flight.

To sum things up, here’s all the documentation you’ll need to travel to the Philippines:

  • A valid passport
  • Return ticket
  • Vaccination certificate against COVID or a negative PCR test
  • Registration for an eTravel card

6 Boracay Tips I Wish I Knew Before Going: Must-Read for First-Time Visitors

1. Avoid the Boracay algae season

2. pre-book boracay airport to hotel transfers to avoid the long wait.

  • 3. It's better to book Boracay activities in advance

4. You can access Boracay luxury resort amenities with day passes

6. The Boracay Hop-on Hop-off shuttle service is a cheaper way to get around the island

Boracay, Philippines

The Philippines is home to some of the world's most beautiful beaches. Among them, Boracay stands out as one of the top places to visit in the Philippines . Located in the Western Visayas region, Boracay is known for its powdery white sand, crystal-clear waters, and vibrant Boracay nightlife . It's a paradise for beach lovers and adventure seekers alike.

I've visited Boracay many times already, and it has always been a great experience. I fell in love with its stunning sunsets, thrilling water activities, and delicious seafood. Some of my favorite memories include lounging on the beach, drinking coconut water, and getting an adrenaline rush with a Boracay windsurfing activity . Every day, there was a new thing to do in Boracay , and I didn't want to leave.

Relax at Boracay

In 2018, Boracay underwent a six-month closure for environmental rehabilitation. But since its reopening, it has regained its status as one of the most beautiful islands in the Philippines .

During my recent trip, I realized there were things I wish I had known before. Now, I'll be sharing these Boracay travel tips with you to help you make the most of your vacation, especially if it's your first time.

Algae season in Boracay

I had an interesting discovery during my recent trip to Boracay! During the algae season, usually around February to April, the stunning White Beach gets tinged with green. Although it wasn't exactly what I expected, I was intrigued to discover what actually makes this happen. It's all due to factors like warm water temperatures and nutrient runoff, which create an environment perfect for algae growth.

If you're curious about the best time to visit Boracay , I strongly advise avoiding the peak months of the algae season, from February to April. Instead, consider visiting during the beginning of the rainydry season that decreases the phenomenon, from May to June, when the beach is at its pristine best.

White Beach algae season

If you do find yourself in Boracay during the algae season, I've found that heading to other beaches aside from White Beach , such as the beach in Boracay Newcoast , is a great alternative. With fewer tourists and crystal-clear waters, it's like having your private paradise.

Another tip to avoid the green beach of Boracay during algae season: I booked a Crimson Boracay day pass , which includes access to a stunning private beach without a speck of algae in sight. It was such a relaxing experience, and I highly recommend it if you're looking for a picture-perfect and relaxing Boracay tour aside from the usual water activities.

So, if you find yourself in Boracay during the algae season, don't worry! There's still so much beauty to discover on this stunning island.

Boracay airport transfer

During my weekend trip, the airports near Boracay were packed with tourists. I had to wait in a long line for a tricycle to Caticlan Jetty Port, pay registration fees, and then ride a boat to Cagban Port. I even hailed another tricycle again that could take me to my Boracay Station 2 resort . I wish I had booked a Boracay airport to hotel transfer beforehand to avoid the hassle. Watching others zoom past us to their transfers made me realize the benefit of pre-booking.

If you want a hassle-free vacation in the island, plan and book your Boracay airport transfers early. It will save you time and avoid stress. You won't have to wait in long lines like I did or worry about finding transportation when you arrive. So, remember to book ahead for a smoother trip.

Boracay Solo Parasailing

When I visited Boracay for the first time, I was super excited to try out all the fun water activities! There were so many cool things to do, like parasailing , riding a banana boat , and trying a crystal kayak in Boracay . But what I was looking forward to trying were these unique activities: sunset paraw sailing and helmet diving in Boracay .

Boracay sunset paraw sailing

While walking along White Beach, I noticed lots of people offering tours and activities. At first, I thought it might be easy to just book something on the spot, which is why I paid for my activities there. But then I realized they were asking for much more money than I could have paid if I had booked Philippine guided tours in advance online, like through Guide to the Philippines.

I was really bummed I wasn’t able to book Boracay activities in advance at that time. Instead of relaxing, I constantly worried about how to enjoy the most beautiful Philippine beaches and other attractions in Boracay. It also made me vulnerable to some of the travel scams in the Philippines that I had read about.

In the end, I did manage to try the activities I wanted to, plus I was able to join a Boracay party boat and a Boracay sunset cruise , but the lack of planning definitely added unnecessary stress to my trip. Next time, I'll definitely be more prepared and book ahead to avoid this kind of problem.

Crimson Resort and Spa Boracay

Boracay is known for being home to some of the most luxurious resorts in the Philippines , mostly Boracay Station 1 resorts . But let's be real: staying at the best Boracay hotels for the whole trip can be pricey. That's why I usually stay at a  cheap hotel in Boracay (there are many budget-friendly  Boracay Station 3 hotels ). I realized, though, that booking resort day passes can be a great way to enjoy some of the luxuries of the more expensive Boracay resorts without the high cost of staying there.

Boracay stunning view

Two accredited hotels in Boracay that I wish I had visited during my recent trip are Crimson Boracay and Movenpick Boracay. With their day passes, I've heard you can enjoy their top-notch amenities without spending too much! I'm definitely considering them for my next trip.

A Crimson Boracay day pass will give you access to their 5-star resort facilities, including the main pool, kids pool, and private beach, along with the use of outdoor showers and public restrooms at Azure Beach Club and Beach Pavilion.

See our popular Crimson Boracay Packages

Additionally, the pass also includes a consumable amount of P1,500 for ala carte dining at Azure Beach Club and a 2-hour free-flow beverage package from 1 to 3 PM!

Movenpick Boracay

Meanwhile, a Movenpick Boracay day pass will give you access to their luxury facilities, including their swimming pool, private beach, gym, and shower room. Puka Beach Boracay

When I visited Boracay, I spent most of my time at White Beach, which was incredible. But looking back, I realize there's so much more to this beautiful island than just one beach. If you're planning a trip, here's a tip: don't miss out on other amazing tourist spots in Boracay !

First, there's Puka Beach. I was told that the vibe there is totally different from White Beach. It's quieter and more serene, with amazing shells scattered along the shore. Then, Diniwid Beach is smaller and a great spot to watch the Boracay sunset as it's away from the crowds. Both beaches are included in most Boracay island hopping tours . I regret not joining one!

Boracay scenery from Mt. Luho

Luckily, I was able to hike to Mount Luho, which is the highest point on the island and offers breathtaking scenery. However, I wasn’t able to visit Ariel's Point. It's a cliff-jumping spot with different platforms, perfect if you want an adrenaline rush.

I wish I had known about Punta Bunga Beach and Banyugan Beach during my trip as well. They're perfect for peace and quiet, known for their exclusivity and pristine beauty. I heard it’s the ideal place for a relaxing day. In fact, when my friend went there, she told me someone proposed there! No wonder the island is one of the most romantic places in the Philippines .

There are also places to eat in Boracay where I enjoyed the food. However, most popular food outlets got crowded at night. If you're looking for exclusivity, I was told you can dine at restaurants inside beachfront resorts in Boracay or at high-rated restaurants. In fact, I’m planning to try a 5-course meal at Aria Cucina Italia on my next trip. If you're a Muslim traveler, some restaurants also serve halal food in Boracay .

So, don't just stick to White Beach like I did; get out there and explore other attractions in Boracay!

Southwest Boracay HOHO Bus

Getting around the island can be pricey. During my recent Boracay trip, I paid PHP100 for a single tricycle ride because I was traveling solo, and they considered it a "special" fare. If only I had known about the Boracay Hop-on Hop-off shuttle service earlier! It's a much cheaper way to explore the island's attractions.

With this service, you can easily visit Boracay's top tourist spots or move between Station 1, Station 2, Station 3, Bulabog Beach, and Newcoast Boracay. Plus, you can enjoy unlimited rides with a 1-day pass. If you're staying longer, there are options to upgrade to a 2-day or 3-day pass.

Booking the Boracay Hop-on Hop-off shuttle is a no-brainer, especially if you're unfamiliar with the local transportation system. It takes away all the hassle of figuring out how to get around. Just check the nearest pick-up and drop-off points, plan your itinerary, and you're good to go!

For me, the best time to visit the Philippines is during its dry season, which is why I’m planning to visit Boracay again soon. I’m very excited to try what I learned from my previous trip! For a more worry-free vacation, here’s a bonus tip: you can book a Boracay all-inclusive package or a Philippines itinerary travel package if you're going to stay longer. CATICLAN AIRPORT TO BORACAY Travel Guide

CATICLAN AIRPORT TO BORACAY Travel Guide

By continuing to read this article, you agree to double check with the authorities or other concerned entities for the latest updates.

The first thing you need to understand about Boracay is that there is no airport within the island. Instead, it is served by two airports that are both located in mainland Aklan: Kalibo International Airport (KLO) , situated roughly 2.5 hours away; and the much closer Caticlan International Airport (MPH), less than 10 minutes away.

Caticlan Airport is more formally known as Godofredo P. Ramos Airport but is now being marketed as Boracay Airport . Because of its proximity to the island, it is the preferred gateway by most Boracay-bound travelers. Thankfully, it underwent major renovations and the runway was extended to accommodate bigger aircraft and more passengers.

Distance of Boracay from Kalibo Airport and Caticlan Airport

Over the years, the Boracay entry protocol has changed quite a lot, no thanks to the pandemic. But here’s the latest, as of July 2023.

By the way, the DIY guide below is for budget travelers and it involves tricycle rides. If, for whatever reason, you want a more comfortable journey, a good option is to book Klook’s packaged transfer service. Aside from the air-conditioned van transfer from Caticlan Airport to the jetty port, you will also be assisted through the port processes and the driver can help you with your luggage. The price already includes the van airport transfer, boat crossing, and multi-cab hotel transfer. ✅ RESERVE OR CHECK RATES HERE!

WHAT'S COVERED IN THIS GUIDE?

1. Make sure you have the Boracay travel requirements.

As of this writing, there are only three documents you need to present:

  • Valid ID. For Filipinos, any government ID is accepted. For foreigners, a valid passport.
  • Confirmed hotel booking or voucher from a DOT-authorized accommodation establishment. You’ll find the list here: List of Accredited Resorts & Hotels!
  • Tourist Arrival Form. You can find this form at Caticlan Jetty Port and accomplish this on the spot. If you’re a group, one person may submit this on behalf of the whole party.

2. Book a transfer to Caticlan Jetty Port.

Upon landing at Caticlan Airport, you’ll be directed to the Arrivals Terminal, which is a separate building from the Departures Terminal and is located on the far end of the runway.

Caticlan Airport and Boracay Distance

Inside, wait for your luggage to arrive. Once you have yours, follow the exit signs. But before you complete go out of the building, you’ll find a lane of booths and staff members with placards. One of them offers tricycle rides. Approach them and get a sticker. The tricycle fare is PhP50. Travel time is 10 minutes.

Caticlan Airport Tricycle Fare

You don’t have to pay at this point. Just get a sticker. Then exit the building and cross the street until you reach the tricycle terminal. Queue up to settle the fare, and you’ll be given a tricycle number. Find the assigned trike.

Caticlan Airport Exit

  • CATICLAN AIRPORT TO JETTY PORT Tricycle Fare: PHP 75 (USD 1.40) per person Travel time: 10 minutes

By the way, although the Caticlan Jetty Port is the main jump off point for the greater part of the year, there are months when the operations move to nearby Tabon Port due to the season and weather. But don’t worry too much about it because it’s not that far away, and drivers always know which port is operational.

3. Clear requirements check.

When you arrive at the Caticlan Jetty Port, enter the building and undergo a security check.

Caticlan Jetty Port Building

Inside, approach the booth closest to the door and get a Tourist Arrival Form . Provide your personal info and travel details. One person can accomplish the form for the whole group. But every one must present their IDs.

The confirmed booking or voucher from an accredited resort or hotel will also be checked. In our case, they checked the number of guests in the booking and the number of travelers on our group.

Previously, the form was required to be filled out online. But that policy has been scrapped. The process has reverted back to the pre-pandemic normal, with a few slight changes.

4. Pay tourist fees.

You need to settle the following fees separately:

  • TERMINAL FEE Regular: PHP 150 (USD 2.75) Seniors/PWDs/Students: PHP 120 (USD 2.20) Children 5 years and below: EXEMPTED (FREE)
  • ENVIRONMENTAL FEE Filipinos: PHP 150 (USD 2.75) Foreigners: PHP 300 (USD 5.50)
  • BOAT FEE: PHP 50

Yes, these are three separate queues, so you need to fall in line three times. Once paid, you’ll be handed a corresponding proof of payment: a receipt for the terminal fee, a stub for the environmental fee, and a ticket for the boat fee.

The boat ticket has a small form attached to it. Fill it out.

Boracay Caticlan Jetty Port Fees

5. Board the boat to Boracay.

Proceed to the Boarding Area. On the side, you’ll find a small booth. Present your boat ticket and the staff will collect the form and give you a card bearing your boat name and seat number.

When it’s time to board, go out and look for the boat assigned to you, hop on, and find your seat.

Caticlan to Boracay Boat

If you have a big bag or suitcase in tow, you can place it in the corner near the door, so you could easily pick it up on your way out.

The boat will leave when it’s full, so it might take some minutes, depending on visitor traffic. But the journey, starting from the moment it leaves the jetty, should take only 15 minutes.

In our case, we spent a total of 30 minutes because we were the first to board and the last to disembark because our luggage was stuck at the bottom of the pile, so we had to wait for everyone to get theirs.

You’ll be getting off at either of Boracay’s two ports — Cagban Port and Tambisaan Port — depending on the season and weather.

6. Take E-Trike to Your Hotel

Outside the port area, you’ll be greeted by drivers looking for passengers. The best way to get to your hotel is probably the e-trike , which is the main mode of transportation on the island.

E-Trike Boracay Port

If regular ride, meaning you’ll be sharing the e-trike with other passengers, these are the rates PER PERSON:

But if you’re a group and you’re carrying big luggage, it might be better to charter a special or private ride. There are the rates PER VEHICLE (NOT per person):

That’s it! Welcome to Boracay!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)

How to get from boracay to caticlan airport (return journey).

To go back to Caticlan Airport after your stay, you just need to trace your steps back.

  • Hail an e-trike for Cagban Port or Tambisaan Port. The driver knows which port is operational at any given time. Just let them know you’re going back to Caticlan and they’ll take you to the right port. The fare is the same as the rates I indicated above. If you’re coming from Station 2, it should be P25 if regular ride or P150 if chartered trip.
  • Pay terminal and boat fees. At Cagban/Tambisaan Port, enter the building and queue up to settle the fees. Terminal fee is PHP 150 and boat fee is PHP 50. Again these are 2 separate lines. For the boat fee, you’ll see various transfer package options. Just ignore them and say you’ll be paying the boat fee only.
  • Board the boat to Caticlan. The staff will collect your ticket and exchange it with a boat card with your seat number. Find your boat and seat. Boat journey takes 15 minutes.
  • Make your way to Caticlan Airport. Because the airport’s Departures Terminal is very close to the jetty, you may simply travel on foot. Walking should take 6-10 minutes. If you wish to ride a tricycle, turn right and you’ll eventually reach the trike terminal. Travel time is 2 minutes. Fare is PHP 25.

When you reach the airport, prepare your flight booking because it will be checked upon entry.

Is a QR code still required?

No, not anymore. Previously, at the height of the pandemic, Boracay visitors must register online and get a QR code prior to the trip. But that’s no longer implemented.

But to be honest, we prefer the pandemic version of the process. I’d rather complete a form online before the trip than on site, which adds a couple of extra steps. At the height of the pandemic, we only needed to fall in line once, to settle the fees, and then just show the QR code. Now that the process is back to normal, there are again a number of queuing to do and forms to accomplish, dragging the transfer process much, much longer.

We’re looking forward to the day when the system would be automated and centralized.

Is the transfer journey PWD-friendly?

Not exactly. The staff ensures that PWDs are prioritized, especially those on wheelchairs. But the infrastructure still leaves a lot of room for improvement.

For example, on our most recent trips, we noticed that when boarding or disembarking, the boardwalk connecting the boat to the port were a bit narrow, impossible for wheelchairs to fit.

On some days, when the waves are strong, disembarking can be a challenge even for the physically fit.

That said, on our last trip, we noticed that the boatmen did their best to be attentive and considerate of PWDs. One passenger was on wheelchair and they made sure she was the first to alight. (I just didn’t see how they assisted her when crossing.)

We’ve also tried the pre-arranged transfer packages offered by resorts and travel agencies before, and yes, they are more PWD-friendly. Not perfect, but I think it offers a much easier, faster and overall better experience for people with mobility issues.
