When your luggage is limited to a carry-on or weekender bag , every item counts. And when you’re experiencing a new destination, be it gloomy London or the white-sand beaches in St. Lucia , every moment counts. That’s why it’s important to have a few tried-and-true hair care products you can rely on to cut down your packing list and the time spent styling while on a trip. Since we all have different hair types and needs, we asked a dozen of our editors and favorite frequent travelers to share their own holy-grail hair products. They came back with recommendations for everything from double-duty balms to anti-frizz treatments and easy-to-use thermal brushes. Below, 17 of the best hair products to travel with, from trusted brands like Ouai, Biosilk, Ceremonia, and more.
Leave-in conditioners
- UV protectants
- Shampoo and conditioner bars
- More hair care favorites
Leave-in conditioner is essential for me when I’m traveling, as I tend to plan adventurous trips that put my hair through the ringer— surfing , camping , hiking , and long international flights that dry everything out—so I go heavy on thick conditioning products that can counteract all that exposure. Swedish brand Sachajuan makes products that fit the bill, and its leave-in conditioner (applied to wet/towel-dried hair) noticeably improved my hair during a busier-than-ever travel season; I swear it also extended the time I was able to go before needing a haircut. The bottle doesn’t meet carry-on size requirements at 8.4 ounces, but it’s liquid enough that you can easily pour it into a reusable travel-size bottle . — Megan Spurrell , senior editor
Give me Biosilk or give me death. No, really. There hasn’t been a hair-washing day in the last 15 years in which I, owner of a significant head of the stuff, haven’t used this saving grace product—even when I go to the hair salon. I apply a dime-sized dollop of the serum to my mane once it’s had about 30 minutes to towel dry, and almost immediately, it reduces my natural frizz by a factor of 10, rendering my hair shiny and healthy even once I begin to lay on the heat tools . Ordinarily, I draw my dose from an extra-large bottle, but I always remember to bring this nifty travel-size version along when I travel. Bonus: It softens dry hands, too, and isn’t sticky or goopy in the least. — Betsy Blumenthal , features and franchises editor
I’m in the process of regrowing my hair from the buzz cut I’ve had for the past two years and I’ve fallen right back into step with a product I began using a few years ago and am a big fan of: Pattern by Tracee Ellis Ross’s leave-in conditioner. It works well as a conditioner and it’s great for detangling my 4C coils when I’m between styles or traveling on assignment and needing to do a wash-and-go. It doesn’t flake, clump, or leave white streaks in my hair. The Pattern shampoo, conditioner, and my beloved leave-in come in a travel-friendly size, which is, well, perfect! — Tariro Mzezewa , contributo r
It's a 10 is one brand I truly swear by. I always spritz on its standard leave-in product after I wash my hair to help with shine, and I'll use it as needed to help with flyaways and frizz throughout the day—needless to say, the travel-size bottle is a must after sitting in a staticky plane seat for six hours. — Caitlin Morton , contributor
I'm loving this duo from Ouai—honestly, they're making all of my favorite products right now. I keep my hair in a protective style 99 percent of the time, but still find it important to condition my braids for maximum shine and to avoid a dry scalp. They also serve as a heat protectant for when I do blowouts. — Candace Molatore , contributor
UV protectants
When I’m spending a day in the sun, I cautiously lather my face and body in sunscreen, but I somehow always forget about my scalp. I regret this as soon as my scalp starts to peel and flake. I’m not a big hat wearer, so last summer I decided to try Supergoop’s Poof mineral part powder. The consistency is similar to baby powder or other dry shampoos I’ve used and it actually protects my scalp from the sun. It’s great for beach days and is compact enough to fit in my Dopp kit . The only con: The powder color is a bit orangey (I lightly massage it into my scalp which helps the color fade). — Meaghan Kenny , associate commerce editor
I’m a broken record on Ceremonia’s products—I love every one I’ve tried, they work like magic and smell amazing, and I think the brand’s mission to bring ancestral Latinx haircare traditions to all is worth celebrating. In addition to its leave-in conditioner , the UV protectant is crucial when I’m traveling. I spray it on my hair before long days in the sun (in an ideal world, that’s every day on every trip), and even pack it in my beach bag to reapply after swimming. I use a little Tangle Teezer to work it through. My hair feels softer throughout the day, and I always get compliments on the scent. — M.S.
Shampoo and conditioner bars
I love how they smell, first and foremost. They also make my hair feel soft and moisturized, without weighing it down. I originally got them for camping trips , but I loved them so much that I just started tossing them into my suitcase for all other types of trips, too. I don't usually check my luggage, so the containers make them super easy and convenient to travel with in a carry-on. — Sarah Kuta , contributor
I always travel with HiBar's Moisturize conditioner bar and Moisturize shampoo bar. I'm in the ocean a lot, so I like to have a hydrating shampoo and conditioner on hand. Solid shampoo bars have a concentrated, waterless formula, so they're a great, eco-friendly alternative to traveling with liquid products in plastic containers. I usually pop them in HiBar's Travel Pouch , which easily fits into my carry-on and keeps the bars secure and dry. — Julia Eskins , contributor
More hair care favorites
After years of trying and failing to find a strong-hold cream that tames stubbornly frizzy flyaways without looking greasy, I recently stumbled across Bumble and Bumble’s Sumotech Lo-Shine cream in a sample bag and now can’t go anywhere without the stuff. It stays in my purse for ample ponytail touch ups, whether I’m in my home city or jetting to the humid Caribbean —where it truly worked miracles on my insanely frizz-prone curls so I could (for once) forget about what my hair was doing and enjoy my trip. A little goes a very long way, so it’s travel-friendly even as a full-size jar at under two ounces. — Shannon McMahon , destinations editor
Perfect hair day is right. I rely on a high-performing mini dry shampoo like this one from Living Proof to save me from having to rewash my hair every single day when I’m traveling. A little bit goes a long way—just a few sprays around my scalp and a quick bit of blending with my hands is all it takes to refresh my hair and eliminate excess oil. It smells divine and fits in my small toiletry bag. —M.K.
More often than not, I travel with check-in luggage, so bringing along all my hair products is rarely an issue for me. But when I need to economize and keep things light, I'm not afraid to say that I use Aesop hand balms like this one to style my hair in a pinch. Of course, I say this with short-hair privilege, so your mileage may vary. But they smell great and do the double-duty of moisturizing my mitts while I'm at it. — Matt Ortile , contributor
I can’t trust hotel conditioners. Some of it makes my strands so limp that my hair ties will fall off. Supermilk keeps my wavy-straight hair’s texture just the way I like it, and strangers compliment me on the key lime pie scent. — Alexandra Sanidad, research director
Sometimes, there just isn’t the time (or accommodations) for a proper shower on the road. My trusty hack for the past few summers has been this super affordable pre-braided headband that gives me a cute updo in less than five minutes and transforms my limp, flat hair into a chic style. You just slip it on over your head, tuck in your surrounding hair into the band, secure with a few bobby pins, and voila, you look like an IG influencer (or, at least, not a showerless swamp monster). Plus, it's lightweight and takes up essentially zero bag space. — Lara Kramer , global director of audience development, social, and analytics
Rather than bringing a slew of styling tools, I always travel with the Harry Josh Pro Tools Magnesium Round Thermal Brush. This lightweight round brush smooths frizz and gives me a salon-worthy blowout, even if the hotel room hair dryer isn't the highest quality. I like that it heats up quickly, so I can dry my hair faster, which is always a bonus on a busy trip. —J.E.

At 1.7 oz., the original bottle is technically TSA-approved, but the 0.68-oz. mini size is ideal for carrying in day-to-day bags, purses, and pockets. The more room, the merrier, right?
Paula’s Choice Mini Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant
You’ve likely heard all about Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant, the cult-favorite toner that really, truly works. But did you know it comes in an itty-bitty 1-ounce option too? It’s so tiny you can throw it in any purse or even a pocket, and reapply as much as necessary. Living Proof Travel-Size Perfect Hair Day Dry Shampoo
Whether you’re prone to sweating or simply don’t have time to shower, dry shampoo is a fairly universal travel essential. The only problem? The best ones usually don’t come in travel size, especially since they’re often aerosol cans. Or, at least they didn’t, until Living Proof released a 2.4-oz. version of their best-selling dry shampoo. You can even pack this in your carry-on. See you never, greasy bangs!
Belif Mini The True Cream Aqua Bomb
Gel based and lightweight, the Belif True Cream Aqua Bomb is a Glamour editor favorite that’s perfect for summer. It doesn’t clog pores, cause breakouts, or provoke excess oil production , but it is super moisturizing and gentle enough to not irritate sensitive skin. It also works remarkably well as a base or a nonsticky makeup primer or layering base, and is available in an itty-bitty 0.84-ounce mini size . So whether you want to try before you buy bigger or plan to carry it onto your summer vacation flight, you (and your skin) are covered.
Dermalogica Mini Daily Microfoliant Exfoliator
You might be taking a break from work while on vacation, but that doesn’t mean you should have to stop exfoliating. Consistently named one of the best face scrubs, Dermalogica’s microfoliant exfoliator combats dullness and brightness without being too rough on the skin. Plus, the formula is customizable—it’s a powder that turns into a paste when mixed with water—and gentle enough to use daily. And now, it comes in a 0.45-oz. option.
Sunday Riley Power Couple Mini Kit: Mini Good Genes & Luna Sleeping Oil
Celebrities, editors, and dermatologists love Sunday Riley’s iconic Good Genes serum—it’s cited in practically every other Drop the Routine —and with good reason. This serum smooths, brightens, and clears skin while plumping and combatting fine lines, and works in as little as three minutes. The Luna Sleeping Oil is esteemed too—Paris Hilton and makeup artist Nam Vo are both fans—since it helps brighten the skin while soothing redness and irritation. Together, these MVPs are unstoppable: And now, at 0.27 and 0.17 oz., they’re TSA-approved.
BaBylissPRO Mini Straightening Iron with Travel Pouch
Most hotels and Airbnbs have hair dryers but are without essential hair tools like hair straighteners. But while some hair simply can’t be tamed with just a dryer, packing a full-size hair straightener can be a pain. Enter BaByliss, who re-created the company’s popular hair straightener in a tiny travel size, complete with a pouch. Now you can straighten and fix your hair anywhere and everywhere that has an outlet.
Oribe Mini Dry Texturizing Spray

Adored by beauty editors and hairstylists alike, it’s great on all hair types and textures; provides lightweight hold and texture without feeling sticky or weighing hair down; adds volume, texture, and grit; and somehow smells good too. The fact that it comes in a 2.2-oz. bottle is pretty much a miracle.
Bumble and Bumble Mini Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil
Bumble and Bumble offers most of its products in travel sizes, which has earned the brand a permanent place in many beauty lover carry-ons. This oil not only makes hair smell and feel amazing, but it completely combats humidity-induced frizz while protecting hair from heat and UV rays. At 0.28 oz., it easily packs in your purse on hot, humid days so you can reapply for extra protection and frizz defense.
Tatcha Mini Liquid Silk Canvas: Featherweight Protective Primer
Tatcha’s Liquid Silk Canvas is a Glamour Beauty Award winner —and considered one of Tatcha’s best products —for a reason. It smooths and blurs the skin upon application, almost like IRL airbrushing, and provides the perfect canvas for foundation, since it doesn’t budge, get oily, or lose coverage all day. Which is why the fact that it’s available in a 0.35-oz. bottle is a life-, and makeup-, saver.
Laura Mercier Mini Translucent Loose Setting Powder
Laura Mercier’s cult-favorite loose setting powder is a godsend when it comes to setting makeup, but the packaging is on the larger side, which makes it hard to travel with. Fortunately, Laura Mercier’s setting powder now comes in a perfectly combat-ready 0.33-oz. travel size so you and your makeup are set for your next trip.
Mario Badescu Travel-Size Facial Spray With Aloe, Herbs, and Rosewater

Especially since it’s so useful for dehydrated, post-flight skin and refreshing touch-ups throughout travel days.
Olaplex Healthy Hair Maintenance Kit: Olaplex No. 3 Hair Perfector + Intensive Bond Building Hair Treatment
Everyone from Emma Stone to Glamour editors to hair pros swear that Olaplex No. 3 Hair Perfector is one of the best hair treatments around. Glamour even named it our choice for best hair mask over all . That said, some editors specifically point to the combination of No. 3 and the Intensive Bond Building Hair Treatment as what truly transformed their hair, which makes the fact that both are available as 1-oz. bottles that much more convenient—and good for our hair. Also of note? Their equally beloved Olaplex No. 4 Bond Maintenance Shampoo and Conditioner come in travel sizes too.
Garnier SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water All-in-1 Makeup Remover & Cleanser Mini
Garnier’s micellar water might not scream “cult-favorite beauty product” at first, but this versatile skin care staple undeniably deserves a spot on the list. Especially since it makes for such an ideal travel buddy, no matter the kind of trip you’re on: This classic cosmetic allows you to remove makeup, cleanse your face, and soothe the skin without any water.
Milk Makeup Mini Lip + Cheek Cream Blush + Lip Color
Milk Makeup
Who doesn’t love a multipurpose beauty product, especially when it comes to travel? There is so little space to pack as is, so having one cosmetic that acts as a beautiful blush and lip tint —formulated with hydrating ingredients—can make all the difference. Milk Makeup released special-edition travel sizes of the cult-favorite blush on their website too; they’re so compact, they can fit into the tiniest of bag or even your pocket.
Clinique Mini Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm Makeup Remover
Whether you double-cleanse to remove makeup or triple-cleanse just in case, a solid cleansing balm is a universal beauty staple. And Clinique’s is widely considered the gold standard in that department, so much so it was nominated for a Glamour Reader’s Choice Award for best cleanser . Gentle, hydrating, and extremely effective, this cleansing balm melts away makeup, sunscreen, and dirt, and now comes in a mini 1-oz. size.
Smashbox X Becca Mini Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Highlighter
Becca’s going out of business was heartbreaking for everyone, especially beauty buffs who loved the brand’s Champagne Pop pressed highlighter . Fortunately, Smashbox took it upon itself to bring the beloved highlighter back—and offer it in a travel size that’s so small, many fans forget it’s in their bag in the first place.
Thrive Causemetics Deluxe Mini Liquid Lash Extensions
Thrive Causemetics Deluxe Liquid Lash Extensions mascara is another universally beloved makeup essential . Formulated with liquid fibers, orchid stem cell complex, and Japanese pepper extract, this mascara builds and lengthens lashes, encourages lash growth, and helps condition them, so you’re supporting your lashes while making them look glam too. And when it comes to the mini, it’s so tiny you'll barely notice it’s in your bag, though you’ll certainly see its effects on your glam.
Urban Decay Mini All Nighter Long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray
If you’re going to bother bringing all these travel-size beauty products on vacation, you might as well make sure they stay put. Lightweight and easy to use, Urban Decay’s All Nighter setting spray really lives up to its name, remaining smudge- and transfer-proof for up to 16 hours. Translation? Your glam will stay in place whether you you embark on a historical walking tour or dance all night at the discoteque (or both). It’s no wonder it has as an average rating of 4.6 across Sephora, Ulta, and Amazon—especially now that it comes in a 1-oz. bottle.

The Best Hair Products to Travel With, According to Stylists
Don't leave home without these.
Traveling is one of life’s great pleasures. But trying to have good hair on the go is about as challenging as getting through the TSA line these days. While we would all like to bring our entire product arsenal, travel and suitcase size restrictions make that impossible. So going with travel-size and double-duty products will help ensure your hair looks good when taking all those cute vacation pics. Here are the hair care products the pros like to take along with them.
1. K18 Hair Mask
Celebrity hairstylist Anthony Pazos is a big fan of traveling with K18 Molecular Repair Hair Mask ($75). The bottle is small, the product is highly concentrated, and best of all, you aren’t supposed to use conditioner with it, so it’s one less thing to bring. “Hands down, the best product to travel with is the K18 Mask. I like it because it helps repair brittle ends and prevents any breakage.”
2. Virtue Travel-Sized Shampoo and Mask
Skip the big, leaky bottles and travel smart. Sharon Dorram, celebrity colorist and owner of Sharon Dorram Color at Sally Hershberger , tells me, “I wish all companies would think to make travel sizes because it is truly the hardest part of packing. I always travel with travel-size Virtue shampoo and Restorative Treatment Mask as my conditioner.”
Mason Pearson
3. Mason Pearson Pocket Mixture Brush
Jennifer Nast , senior stylist at Sharon Dorram Color at Sally Hershberger, tells me she likes to travel light with a Mason Pearson Pocket Brush . “When you are on the go, you need a good brush to keep the fly always at bay. Brushing can also help to distribute the oil from your scalp. “
4. A Claw Clip
Easily and cheaply purchased, Nast suggests traveling with a claw clip ($9) to quickly style your hair. “It's an easy way to elevate a look, put up hair after the beach, and day-two travel hair."
5. T3 Compact Travel Flat Iron
Who wants to lug around a big, heavy flat iron? Nast recommends using the T3 Singlepass Compact ($89) model instead. “So cute and tiny! Refresh your blow dry or simply touch up your hairline. A quick fix when you are on the go.”
6. Phyto 9 Nourishing Day Cream
Looking for a double-duty product that can work on wet and dry hair? The Phyto 9 Nourishing Day Cream ($29) is a great choice according to Matthew Monzon , celebrity hair stylist. “It can be used on wet hair before blow drying to give you what you need to help control frizz and give you amazing shine. Or, as a finishing product to help give some texture to your hair. The big plus is if you're flying, you don’t need to put it in your checked luggage since it’s under the limit.”
7. Curlsmith Moisture Memory Reactivator
It's specially important to have the right products for curly hair. Sharley Butcher , textured hair care specialist and lead educator at Curlsmith tells me, "Wherever I go, I pack my haircare essentials in travel size, so I don't need to compromise luggage space. Curlsmith Moisture Memory Reactivator is perfect for refreshing my curls and bringing them back to life between wash days.”
8. Luisant6 Hair Primer
Whether you’re exploring a city or lying at the beach, celebrity hair and makeup artist Pamela Brogardi likes to use Hair Primer by Luisant6 ($24). “This product is CBD-infused and a hydrating leave-in spray. The hydrating bonding leave-in spray reduces blow drying time and transforms texture resulting in a sleek, glass-like shine. Spray before hitting the beach and after to keep your hair looking beach fabulous!”
9. Oribe Mini Gold Lust Dry Shampoo
Dry shampoo is great when traveling, but bringing one of those massive cans is a big no. Brogardi likes Mini Gold Lust Dry Shampoo by Oribe ($23). “Dry shampoo helps to absorb excess oil and refresh your hair between washes, making it an essential product for maintaining clean and voluminous hair on the go. The mini size is convenient for packing and adheres to airline travel regulations.”
10. Epres Bond Repair Treatment
Damage and frizz can be frustrating, which is why stylist Bradley Leake likes Epres Bond Repair Treatment ($34). “It keeps hair smooth and frizz-free while also fighting damage. It is also super easy to take with you as you can bring just the vial of concentrate and bottle in your travel bag,” he explains. “One other hack I recommend to clients is to spray this on before going on a plane or traveling so that you can treat as you go, then wash out and have gorgeous shiny hair once you reach your destination.”

Pack Lightly With These Travel-Sized Products—And Bon Voyage!

Whisking yourself away on holiday is nothing short of mood-boosting, that is, aside from the inherent trials and tribulations that are par for the course with travel, like flight delays and lugging your luggage around. There are some travel mishaps, however, that can be entirely mitigated with proper planning. Having one (or more!) of your favorite toiletries confiscated at security for being greater than 3.4oz, or arriving at your destination only to realize you’ve forgotten an essential skincare or haircare product that won’t be easy to duplicate whilst away, need not be part of your holiday itinerary.
The solve? Stock up on all your essentials in travel sizes that can come with you in your carry-on, and keep the army of mini products in their own travel pouch. That way, whether a spontaneous trip arises, or it’s time to head out for the holiday you’ve been planning for months, you’re ready to go without having to worry or really think about it at all.
From all-in-one skincare and haircare kits that take the guesswork out of packing to carry-on friendly SPFs and petite perfumes , the best travel size beauty products will have you ready to enjoy your trip.
The All-In-Ones
Sometimes, it’s easier to invest in a kit that already has everything you could need. Take the thinking out of packing with Aesop’s Arrival Kit, which will ensure a good shower no matter your location or skincare kits from La Mer and Tata Harper, so there’s no stressing over maintaining a skincare routine while away.

How to Travel with Makeup and Skincare: 12 Dos and Don'ts
@calpak / Instagram
Preparing your makeup for traveling is not an endeavor to be taken lightly. After all, with TSA regulations and baggage handlers who don't care that you have a fragile, limited-edition makeup palette in your suitcase, it's a rather harrowing experience for your beauty products. Okay, so we're being slightly hyperbolic. Packing a travel makeup bag isn't exactly a quest on par with throwing the One Ring into the fires of Mount Doom, but it can be tricky. Should you pack that eyeshadow you've never worn before but could suddenly be struck with a need for? What's the best way to travel with a liquid foundation? And seriously, when will we learn how to pack makeup for a flight?
To answer these questions (and more), we turned to celebrity makeup artists Mary Irwin, Gabriel De Santino, and Jamie Greenberg.
Meet the Expert
- Mary Irwin is a celebrity makeup artist based in New York City and the co-founder of The Makeup Standard .
- Gabriel De Santino is a makeup artist and founder of Gabriel Cosmetics .
- Jamie Greenberg is a Los Angeles-based celebrity makeup artist.
Invest in a Padded Makeup Bag
According to Irwin, investing in a padded makeup bag like the Away Large Toiletry Bag ($75), which will help keep all of your precious products safe. Also, when packing your carry-on, she says to put the makeup bag in the middle of your case and surround it with soft items (like clothing). "This assures that it's well-padded and you won't arrive with an explosion of eyeshadow," she says.
Greenberg concurs, saying a padded bag "will protect all of your palettes, lipsticks and other delicate (and often expensive) makeup products, so they don’t break while in transit."
Save Space By Packing Palettes
" When traveling, pack palettes [versus single eyeshadow pans] to save space and give you options for both day and night looks," says Irwin. Sigma Beauty's Ritzy Eyeshadow Palette ($25) hits all the notes—a mix of mattes, shimmers, and metallics allows you to build multiple looks without taking up a ton of space in your bag. And, if you're a frequent traveler, peep the brand's On-The-Go Eyeshadow Palette Set ($87), which contains every color you could possibly need (because let's be real, we need options).
Customize With Magnetic Palettes
Traveling with palettes only makes sense if you know you're going to be using all of the shades. If you'd rather pick and choose which shades to travel with, Irwin suggests using a magnetic palette that you can customize yourself. Try The Pro Palette ($25)—you can build and refill with the exact pans you'd like (translation: you won't be stuck with colors you won't use).
Always Pack Travel-Sized Products in a Carry-On
De Santino has some sound advice when it comes to packing your liquids: Always use a carry-on. "I always like to keep my makeup and skincare in my carry-on, so I stick to solids and travel sizes for all liquids. You'll be able to retouch before you de-board the plane, and worst-case scenario, if your luggage gets lost, at least you'll still be able to wash your face and throw some makeup on to feel a little better," he says.
Irwin agrees, adding that makeup products are delicate and baggage handlers tend to want to make a 50-yard pass with your suitcase. "Protect your makeup investment and make sure it gets there with you," she says.
Pack Multipurpose Products
"I like to use traveling as an excuse to streamline and stick to crossover products, like my Multi-Pots and Gabriel Cream Highlighter ($21), which can be used on eyes, cheeks, and lips," he says. Packing products that don't require the use of brushes is also a good idea not only for space purposes, but this will also preserve the life of your brushes, as being cramped up in travel bags is not ideal.
Pre-Plan Your Makeup Looks
That baby blue liquid liner you've been meaning to test for the last year? It likely has no space in your travel makeup bag. Before you pack, De Santino suggests actually planning out your looks and assess what actually needs to come with you. That being said, this doesn't mean you can't have fun with your makeup looks while abroad. For example, if you know feathery brows are on the horizon, be smart about your picks: a pack a dual-sided brow product like Kevyn Aucoin True Feather Brow Marker Gel Duo ($32), which will set your brows in place on no-makeup makeup days and help you achieve the fluffy brow trend on more adventurous days.
Use Refillable Travel Containers
If you'd rather remain loyal to your beauty products (versus going with the unknown at a hotel), investing in leak-proof travel containers is a safe bet. There's nothing this one from Palette by Pak ($39) can't store—from liquids and oils to creams and even your face powder, this five-piece container lets you bring your favorites on the go.
DIY Your Travel Containers With a Contact Lens Case
Rather DIY it? De Santino says to put your lotions, serums, and any other liquids, like foundation, into a contact lens cases. "They look tiny but can hold a surprisingly large amount of product and seal up really well, so you don't have to worry about spills in your bag," he says.
Protect Your Powder Compacts With a Cotton Pad
"If traveling with powder compacts, ensure they arrive intact by placing a cotton pad (or, if you still have the puff that came with it) inside and pack on the top of your makeup bag. Pad the top of your bag with additional cotton pad for extra cushion," De Santino says.
Preserve Your Looks With a Makeup Refresher Spray
Travel schedules are busy and sometimes hectic, so it's helpful to have something on hand to refresh your makeup when you're running from A to B. Too Faced's Travel Size Hangover 3-in-1 Replenishing Primer & Setting Spray ($18) spray hydrates and brightens both bare skin and foundation whenever the jet lag kicks in, as well as sets makeup to keep it in place, no matter what's on your itinerary. (Not to mention, it's the perfect pick-me-up on the airplane.)
Invest in Multi-Purpose Products
"Multitasking products are my absolute favorite for traveling," says Greenberg. "Ultimately, you’ll have less to pack and more room for other essentials, or souvenirs to bring home from your travels." Greenberg recommends a combination tinted moisturizer-SPF product like Younique's BARE·YOU BB Tinted Moisturizer+ SPF 30 ($46). "It's perfect for when you are on the go. Your skin is protected with a SPF 30 mineral zinc sunscreen, plus it is tinted, so it gives a more even-toned appearance," she says. "I also love it because the formula adds an added boost of moisture, with ceramides that hydrate skin and reduce trans-epidermal water loss."
Categorize Your Products
One surefire way to cut back on the number of products you pack (and therefore keep the essentials safe while in transit)? Pack in categories. "Separate your makeup by skin, face, eyes, lips," Greenberg says. "Then try to reduce one product per category, to help save space."

I Used to Work in Beauty Retail, and These Are the 12 Products You Shouldn't Sleep on at Amazon — From $7
These are my tried-and-true faves.
If you click on links we provide, we may receive compensation.
Travel + Leisure / Tyler Roeland
As a teenager I was completely and utterly obsessed with everything beauty and skincare. Initially having learned about makeup from my beauty influencer and makeup artist older sister, I broadened my skills and knowledge by watching nearly thousands of hours worth of beauty Youtube videos any chance I could get. This inherent love for beauty actually led me to one of my first jobs, working at Ulta Beauty — helping shoppers find the best beauty, skincare, and hair care products around.
This was all well before I became a travel writer. Now, as a frequent traveler with an affinity for beauty, I’ve tried countless products and have curated a toiletry bag stacked with fantastic travel-friendly products to keep me looking and feeling my best wherever I go. And because I loved helping shoppers back in the day at Ulta Beauty, I’m using all the intel I’ve learned over the years to share a list of the best beauty products that you can find at Amazon right now that I firmly trust (and are even in my own travel makeup bag). My picks include everything from a $10 caffeinated eye cream that outperforms other more expensive ones in its category to this moisturizing French beauty secret that doesn't quit, and it all starts at just $7. Keep reading to build your perfect makeup bag.
The Inkey List Caffeine Eye Cream
The Inkey List makes incredibly effective skincare products at affordable prices. They used to be exclusively sold at Sephora, but now have hit the virtual shelves at Amazon, where shoppers have already dubbed this as the “best eye cream,” thanks to its “effectiveness, affordability, and simplicity,” that “make it a standout product.” And I wholeheartedly agree. It’s formulated with caffeine, peptides, and other skin-friendly ingredients to reduce signs of under-eye fatigue and dark circles for a fresh, energized look, even if you just hopped off a red-eye flight. Oh, and it’s fragrance-free for those with sensitive skin.
Amika Extended Clean Dry Shampoo
I’ve tried a lot of dry shampoos in my day, and the only one that I keep repurchasing is this travel-size, talc-free dry shampoo that keeps my hair looking incredibly fresh and voluminous, even if I haven’t washed my hair in a few days. I always keep a few around to touch my hair up whenever I need, and unlike other dry shampoos, it's completely invisible, which means you don’t have to worry about any harsh white streaks in your hair.
Supergoop! Unseen Sunscreen SPF 40
Supergoop is a long-time T+L writer-approved brand widely loved for its effective formula and better-for-you ingredients. This particular sunscreen from the brand is lightweight, scentless, and oil-free, which means it’ll sit beautifully under your makeup or can be worn as is and will even give you a slight glow. Oh, and those same credentials also mean that you don’t have to worry about the dreaded white cast thanks to its fast-absorbing gel formula.
Alleyoop Pen Pal 4-in-1 Touch Up
The first time I tried this product, my initial reaction was: "Why have I gone so long without this?" Its genius design holds a lip liner, eyeliner, brow pencil, and a highlighter all in a compact size roughly the same size as a sharpie. Besides cutting down on the items I pack in my toiletry bag, I also just love having this four-in-one pen around for touch-ups after dinner or transitioning from a day-to-night look from the office to dinner. It also happens to be on sale for $20 right now, so it’s basically begging to be added to your bag.
La Roche Posay Toleriane Double Repair Face Moisturizer With Niacinamide
The French skincare brand La Roche Posay is a trusted go-to at Travel + Leisure , and I particularly love this moisturizer for its ultra-hydrating and nourishing feel that has made it one of my favorite tried-and-true products. It’s also formulated with niacinamide (that locks in moisture and helps fade dark spots) which means I don’t have to worry about packing extra serums on vacation.
Honest Beauty 2-in-1 Creme Blush + Lip Color
As you’ve probably noticed, I love products that can do double (or quadruple) duty. It helps me save room in my toiletry bag and time getting ready, so why not streamline your makeup routine if the products genuinely work? I really love this cream blush from Honest Beauty that doubles as a stunning lip color. You can apply it with your blush, finger tips, or a sponge, and you’ll look glowy and perfectly flushed all day long.
Colleen Rothschild Radiant Cleansing Balm
Sometimes your traditional cleanser isn’t enough to get all of the dirt and makeup off. For a deeper clean, you should be supplementing a cleansing balm into your routine to really get all of the day off. As a bonus, its balm oil-based formula will not only clean your skin, it’ll also hydrate it, too. And while the price tag may be on the steeper end, a little goes a long way — I’ve had this cleansing balm for roughly three months now and have hardly made a dent.
EltaMD Daily Tinted Sunscreen SPF 40
If you’re packing light and only prioritizing items that’ll keep you protected and glowy, then you need this tinted sunscreen. It not only gives you ample protection against the sun, it’s also formulated with hyaluronic acid (that promotes moisture retention in your skin) for a smooth, light-to-medium coverage that helps hydrate your skin all-day long. I personally swear by this moisturizer, and so do dermatologists.
Peace Out Skincare Acne Dots
Between the stagnant air on planes and general stress of travel, my skin often breaks out with unwelcomed blemishes all over my face. I used to let breakouts keep me from fully enjoying my trip, so that's why I always travel with a pack of acne dots to keep unwanted zits away. These particular ones from Peace Out Skincare are my current favorite, and they are among the first I’ve found that actually look invisible when applied under makeup.
Grown Alchemist Amenity Kit
For those who have an affinity for luxurious skincare but can’t always splurge, consider adding this travel kit trio that includes an ultra-hydrating lip balm, hand lotion, and moisturizer. In fact, Grown Alchemist also happens to be a supplier to many luxury hotels around the world, and my first encounter with the brand was at a Mandarin Oriental in Madrid. Since then, I’ve fallen in love with their dreamy products that really bring that same opulence into my daily routine.
E.L.F Power Grip Primer
My makeup artist sister always spoke of the importance of a good primer to keep your making looking smooth and lasting all-day long. This particular primer is a fan-favorite to over 15,000-plus shoppers that have given it perfect ratings (including myself) thanks to its stellar gel-based formula that not only hydrates the skin and smoothes skin, but also keeps your makeup lasting all-day long. And while skincare can definitely be expensive, this no-frills primer is just $10 — yet I think it’s even better than more expensive ones I’ve tried.
Vaseline Original Petroleum Jelly
Vaseline is one of those quintessential skincare items that everyone should have in their skincare bag, let alone their toiletry bag. Whether used as a heavy-duty moisturizer for dry, cracked skin, as chapstick on your lips, or brushed in your brows for a polished no-makeup, makeup look, there’s really nothing Vaseline can’t do. If you don’t already have a jar, snag one for $7 today — it’ll change your life.

Preventative Haircare Is Trending—This Is What You Should Use
Sponsor Content Created With KilgourMD
We all know about preventative skincare. We wear sunscreen every day, spend way too much money on facials, and stay far, far away from tanning beds. This got me thinking, though—what if you could do the same for your hair?
It turns out that Stanford dermatologist James Kilgour, MD , thinks you should. He's been in the world of scalp care for years, way before it became trendy on TikTok. It all started when he was treating patients in his dermatology practice. "I've seen many patients with male and female pattern hair thinning, which is most likely inherited," he says. "They would be in disbelief since their parents had a full head of hair. And despite my years of training, I didn't have a good solution for this specific problem."
But a few years ago, Kilgour came across a study that completely changed everything he knew about hair growth. TLDR: A healthy scalp sets the stage for healthy hair (that grows like crazy, by the way).
This led to the development of his eponymous line, KilgourMD , and his breakthrough Prevention Scalp Serum. Think of it like sunscreen for your scalp—your preventative step to protect your hair from environmental damage, maintain the health of your scalp, and even reduce the appearance of hair thinning by 30%.
But let's back up and talk about how the hair serum works. Simply put, it tackles all three causes of hair thinning: hormonal, age-related, and environmental. It also contains a unique blend of potent ingredients including vitamin C, zinc, and pea sprout extract that protects, strengthens, and soothes your scalp and hair follicles. Pretty cool, right? You bet I'm going to add this to my haircare routine stat.
If you're already experiencing hair thinning, you're in good hands with Kilgour. His line also includes the equally amazing Treatment Scalp Serum , which combats existing hair thinning with soothing ingredients such as ginseng, rosemary, and turmeric that help stimulate hair growth. Want to know which serum is right for you? See below for a breakdown of both superstar serums.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

Tatcha The Water Cream Lightweight Pore-Refining Hydration (full size)
Why you’ll love it: As one editor who’s a fan has said: This gel moisturizer is more than deserving of the universal praise it gets from beauty lovers everywhere, it feels weightless when applied, and it works, and it works well. It contains antioxidant green tea, soothing red algae, and botanical ingredients said to control oil production and reduce the size of pores (Japanese leopard lily and Japanese wild rose, respectively). As an added bonus, it contains 24-karat gold — very fancy — and comes with a tiny golden spoon for scooping a dollop out of the pot. After incorporating it into her routine morning and at night, one editor found that her skin was softer, smoother, less oily, and felt hydrated for hours — everything she wants, and needs, from a moisturizer.
How you’ll use it: You can massage this moisturizer onto clean skin, or use it as the last step in a layering routine (under sunscreen during the day, of course). While you apply it, the cooling feel of the gel is extra relaxing.
Youth to the People Kale + Green Tea Spinach Vitamins Superfood Cleanser (full size)
Why you’ll love it: It sounds like a green juice, smells like apples — and is worth clearing off some counter space for. That’s because this hydrating antioxidant-packed cleanser works double-time to wash away daily grim, and keep skin bright and dewy.
How you’ll use it: Lather up one to two pumps in your hands, and then massage it onto wet skin, before rinsing clean.
Olaplex N°.4 Bond Maintenance™ Shampoo
Why you’ll love it: A double award winner — Allure Readers’ Choice and Allure Best of Beauty wins under its belt — this shampoo help repair damage you already have (thanks a lot blow-dryer!) and helps strengthens hair’s protein bonds to ward off new damage, too, for fewer flyaways and frizz.
How you’ll use it: As often as you’d like, as your shampoo — it rinses clean easily, and you can follow it up with your favorite conditioner.
Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Waterproof Eyeliner Pencil in Zero
Why you’ll love it: The black eyeliner pencil to end all black eyeliner pencils, this waterproof formula has been a staple for beauty buffs and Allure editors for years. The waterproof formula goes on smooth and creamy, smudges easily, and once it sets, it stays put.
How you’ll use it: After lining your lashes, you can give the liner a smudge with a clean fingertip or densely-packed brush for a smoky look that stays put for hours. If a clean or winged line is more your thing, this smooth pencil delivers perfection — you can get a similar crisp look as you could with liquid liner, in an easier to maneuver pencil.

Paula's Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant (full size)
Why you’ll love it: A longtime fan favorite, this exfoliator moves quickly: Paula's Choice estimates that one sells every seven seconds around the world, and the two-percent salicylic acid -based formula swiftly clears dirt, oil, and grime out of pores. While using this as her nighttime toner, Allure's Sarah Han has, for one, noticed smoother, clearer skin.
How you’ll use it: Apply to clean skin — there’s no need to rinse. The brand recommends starting off by using it every other day — if your skin is tolerating it well, you can graduate to using it daily, in the morning (followed by SPF) and/or at night.
The Outset Firming Vegan Collagen Prep Serum
Why you’ll love it: The Outset is Scarlett Johansson’s skin care line, and her serum is one of the rare products that has won both Allure Readers’ Choice and Allure Best of Beauty Awards. It’s such a standout because it helps make skin smoother and brighter while being gentle enough for even sensitive complexions that needs extra care, thanks to its nourishing fragrance-free formula with soothing Mexican arnica flower and skin-loving black quinoa.
How you’ll use it: This lightweight jelly serum absorbs quickly and hydrates thoroughly; you can layer it under other products and/or makeup without worrying about pilling.
Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick in Pillow Talk (full size)
Why you’ll love it : Before it was a lipstick, Pillow Talk (a rosy classic) was a shade of makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury's Lip Cheat lip liner — after years of using it on celebrities, they, as well as her friends, requested a matching lipstick . The result is the perfect “my lips but better” lip color: Pillow Talk is the rare neutral lipstick that manages to be universally flattering, it gives lips a hint of pink, and it has a matte-yet-moisturizing finish — it’s no wonder Pillow Talk lipstick has sold out several times since it launched.
How you’ll use it: This lipstick is great for everyday, special occasions (Amal Clooney wore Pillow Talk lip liner on her wedding day), and red carpets, if that’s your scene — Salma Hayek, Emma Roberts, Nicole Kidman, and Gwyneth Paltrow are a handful of the celebrities who have worn the shade.
Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Niacinamide Dew Drops (full size)
Why you’ll love it : Niacinamide is a powerhouse that can boost radiance, decrease redness, and reduce the appearance of fine lines and pigmentation. In this lightweight, cooling pink formula — its gel-like texture is perfect for summer — the superstar ingredient makes skin super bright. This multitasking serum is also fortified with antioxidant watermelon extract and moringa seed oil and hydrating hyaluronic acid. “No singular product has visibly reduced my redness and enhanced my glow as well as the Watermelon Glow Niacinamide Dew Drops has,” says Han. “I was wowed by the very apparent glow-up. Jaw, meet floor.”
How you’ll use it : Applied to clean skin, the serum wakes up complexions and sinks in quickly. You can also mix a pump into liquid foundation for a subtle glow.
Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Mask
Why you’ll love it: Bleach, hot tools, rainbow hair color — they are no match for this reparative mask, which made one editor’s self-described straw-like hair noticeably smoother and shinier after she used it twice in one week. The formula is easy to run through hair — it’s more like a conditioner than a thick mask — has a delicate floral scent, and is powered by natural oils (rosehip, sweet almond, avocado oils), biotin, and algae extract.
How you’ll use it: After shampooing, run the mask through your hair, from roots to ends, and then rinse it out after 10 minutes. Briogeo recommends using the mask once a week until you see a change in your hair, and then switching to using it once every other week if desired.
Beautycounter Lid Glow Cream Shadow in Ember (full size)
Why you’ll love it: This shimmering brown cream eye shadow comes in a tube, with a dense applicator brush that makes it easy to swipe across your lids — you get gorgeous rich sparkling color that’s easy to smudge out around the edges for a sexy, smoky look.
How you’ll use it: Swipe the shadow across your lids, and tap the edges with a clean fingertip to blend and smudge the shadow slightly.
Wet Brush Original Detangler
Why you’ll love it: A hair care routine staple, this oval brush’s long bristles are gentle enough to use on wet or damp hair, and because they’re flexible, they glide through knots without snagging, so you can detangle without tons of painful tugging.
How you’ll use it: To gently detangle hair, when it’s wet or dry hair.
Bath & Body Works Champagne Toast PocketBac Hand Sanitizer (full size)
Why you’ll love it: This adorable hand sanitizer is small enough to fit comfortably in most purses or jacket pockets, and it smells sweetly of champagne and berries — who knew hand sanitizer could be so uplifting? The formula contains 70% alcohol (the CDC recommends using a formula with at least 60%) and nourishing essential oils, aloe, shea extract, and vitamin E.
How you’ll use it: Squirt a little into your hands, and rub them together until the feel dry, whenever needed, like after coming into contact with high-touch surfaces. According to the CDC’s recommendations for using hand sanitizer, “If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol, and wash with soap and water as soon as you can.”
Dove Crushed Macadamia & Rice Milk Moderate Exfoliating Body Scrub (full size)
Why you’ll love it: A beloved physical exfoliator (meaning it doesn’t have any chemical exfoliants inside), this formula relies on hydrated silica to clear dead skin and provide lasting exfoliation. One Allure editor has called it the Goldilocks of exfoliators — not too harsh, not too weak, just right. And it smells amazing, like warm, comforting macadamia.
How you’ll use it: Massage it in circular motions over wet skin, and rinse clean, three to four times a week.
Wander Beauty Baggage Claim Eye Masks
Why you'll love it: With their bright gold color and cooling feel, these under-eye masks are fun to wear (it's no wonder they've been in so many selfies!) — but the real magic happens after you peel them off. The masks hydrate and de-puff, so under-eyes look dewier and refreshed.
How you'll use it: Stick the masks under your eyes and when they start to dry up (about 20 minutes later) take them off. They don't slip and slide around, so you cab go about your usual routine while you wear them.
Best Dry Shampoo: The 2024 Glam Beauty Awards
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.
Despite its name, dry shampoo is good for more than just cleansing your tired tresses. Adding volume, separating strands, and refreshing roots are just a few of this haircare staple's other perks. That's why so many beauty fans love the stuff — in addition to helping you skip wash day, it can also add some serious oomph to your style. Still, there's nothing worse than buying dry shampoo only to find that it's not at all compatible with your hair type. Use the wrong product, and you'll be left with locks that are limp, greasy, or stringy. In other words, a bad dry shampoo can have exactly the opposite of its intended effect.
So how do you find your way to the best dry shampoos out there? Well, not by adding another dud to the haircare graveyard — you know, that bottom shelf bucket in your bathroom where the flops go to rest. Instead, I've taken care of that tiresome process for you. While searching for dry shampoos worthy of the 2024 Glam Beauty Awards , I tested many of the top haircare products on the market. After scoring them on factors like texture, value, and "shampooing" capabilities, I was able to narrow the competition down to five winners. No matter what your budget or hair type is, you're sure to find your new favorite amongst these top scorers.

Best Overall Dry Shampoo: Eva NYC Freshen Up Invisible Dry Shampoo
Founded in 2012, Eva NYC is a sustainable haircare brand from Brooklyn, New York that offers an impressive range of products. Using eco-friendly ingredients, unique fragrances, and colorful packaging, the brand has earned a rightful place at the top of the haircare pack. In the past, I've used Eva NYC's sea-lavender-infused Lazy Jane Air Dry Collection with fantastic results — so I looked forward to seeing how this brand's dry shampoo might fare. The Freshen Up Invisible Dry Shampoo is packaged in 100% recyclable aluminum, meaning you can recycle it alongside your soda cans. It's also safe to use on processed hair, and contains natural plant extracts like rice starch and argan oil to soften your strands.
When searching for the best dry shampoo, I used several criteria to find an overall winner. In terms of everything from its value to its cleansing properties, Eva NYC completely surpassed my expectations. It quickly absorbed oil with no greasy residue, no matter how liberally I sprayed it on. After you spray it, you'll notice that Freshen Up has a very unique, powdery-sweet scent with pretty substantial staying power. According to the brand, this signature fragrance consists of plum, freesia, and Bourbon vanilla notes, just to name a few. The blend is a definite mood booster, but it's worth noting that it may clash against some perfumes or colognes.

Best Dry Shampoo For Colored Hair: Moroccanoil Dry Shampoo
One of dry shampoo's few downsides is that it can leave a film of white dust on your scalp and roots. This may not be a problem if you're silver or platinum blonde, but the rest of us have to put in serious work to avoid looking dusty. Of course, some manufacturers have picked up on our pain and delivered customized solutions. Moroccanoil's Dry Shampoo, for example, is a product that's available in both dark and light tones to suit different sides of the color wheel. Hoping to find my dry shampoo shade match once and for all, I went with the Dark Tones option for just over $25.
Moroccanoil's Dry Shampoo did an excellent job at freshening up my tresses and managing to blend with my natural brunette hair. It has a somewhat cool, chocolate-brown color, though it isn't nearly as opaque as something like a root touch-up spray. It would be nice to see more options for redheads and other distinctive hair colors, but I think Moroccanoil knocked it out of the park with this formula. It certainly gives you that fresh-from-the-salon feeling, leaving behind a sophisticated scent and a satiny, featherweight feel.
Purchase Moroccanoil Dry Shampoo (available in Light or Dark Tones) from Sephora for $26. Buy at Sephora (Dark) Buy at Sephora (Light)
Best Luxury Dry Shampoo: IGK First Class Charcoal Detox Dry Shampoo
You might have heard of IGK Hair through subscription services like Ipsy, or seen it on the shelves at stores like Sephora. Either way, there's something to be said for this hairstylist-founded brand's dry shampoo collection. According to many of its fans, it's the only thing that works on fine, super-greasy strands. IGK offers three types of flight-themed dry shampoos, including Jet Lag, which dries to an invisible finish, and Direct Flight, a multitasking matcha variety. Last but not least is the First Class Charcoal Detox Dry Shampoo, which I picked up for $32. The 6.3-ounce can is fairly hefty, but so is its price tag. That's right: IGK's was the most expensive dry shampoo I tested, hands-down. Thankfully, I got my money's worth with this high-flying product.
Unfortunately for wallets everywhere, the old adage that you get what you pay for is true with the First Class Charcoal Detox Dry Shampoo. I'm all for using budget buys whenever possible, but this dry shampoo mops up grease like absolute magic. On top of that, it can quickly volumize your hair without adding any weight whatsoever. In addition to purifying charcoal, the styling spray also contains white tea extract to help soothe the scalp. Ultimately, IGK's First Class Dry Shampoo formula proved to be an all-around favorite — I just wish it were a little more reasonably priced.

Best Budget Dry Shampoo: Handmade Heroes Drop Dead Gorgeous Dry Shampoo
There are many reasons to seek out non-aerosol dry shampoos , whether you're looking for something safer or you simply detest the smell of aerosol sprays. Of course, powder-based dry shampoo can be a bit trickier to dispense than its sprayable cousin. But don't let this stop you from giving it a try. With the help of Handmade Heroes, a natural beauty line founded by entrepreneur Lynsey Lim, it's easier than ever to make the switch to shakeable dry shampoo. The company's Drop Dead Gorgeous Dry Shampoo soaks up impurities with invigorating ingredients like charcoal powder and kaolin clay — plus, it perfumes your hair with natural scents that include lavender and peppermint.
Just like aerosol products, powdered dry shampoos can sometimes miss the mark. Yet Handmade Heroes did an excellent job of absorbing dirt and oil, and I loved that it came in three shade selections to suit dark, light, and blond hair colors. As a brunette who prefers non-aerosol dry shampoos, it's nice to skip all the excess brushing I normally do to avoid looking like a powdered donut. Best of all, the Drop Dead Gorgeous Dry Shampoo is super affordable at only $10 per canister. It's also easy to carry in my bag and keeps my hair fresh and clean all day with no chalky buildup or residue.

Best Dry Shampoo For Travel: I Dew Care Mattifying Dry Shampoo Powder
Ever since I heard about dry shampoo recalls , I've kept tabs on the best non-aerosol alternatives to use instead. There are plenty of travel-sized dry shampoos out there, but few are as well-designed and, well, adorable as I Dew Care's Tap Secret Mattifying Dry Shampoo Powder. Aside from its starry, smiling logo, there's so much to love about this pocket-sized shampoo dispenser. I Dew Care is sustainably formulated and it's also quite reasonably priced. In fact, at the time of writing, it's just over $12 per tub. To sweeten the deal, it even comes with a neat powder puff applicator, so you can say "bye-bye" to the days of dusty fingerprints while getting ready.
I adore Tap Secret's packaging, since it's the perfect size to pop into your makeup bag — and what's inside may be even better. It doesn't come in multiple shades, but this super-fine powder is virtually invisible thanks to lightweight ingredients like silica, mica, and charcoal. As a bonus, Tap Secret's formula also features revitalizing extracts, including biotin and black ginseng, to stimulate the scalp and promote healthy hair growth. And I can't stress enough how easy it is to use its powder puff — genius! All in all, this compact styling product is highly deserving of its win in the 2024 Glam Beauty Awards .
Purchase Tap Secret Mattifying Dry Shampoo Powder from I Dew Care for $12.80 at the time of writing (regularly priced at $18). Buy at I Dew Care

Gloria Steinem’s Beauty Ideals
The feminist activist, who relies mostly on moisturizer, was tapped to promote a beauty campaign about self-acceptance. Plus, a SoHo salon that evokes Southern France.
By Ruth La Ferla
In the Fashion Chatter column, Ruth La Ferla reports industry news bites and offers bits of analysis.
Plenty of people still think of Gloria Steinem as the tall, comely babe with honey-toned, center-parted hair who decades ago blazed a trail for second-wave feminism wearing aviator glasses perched on the bridge of her nose.
Some of those people may be heartened to learn that, apart from a few steel-gray hairs and creases, Ms. Steinem, who turned 90 in March, looked much the same when she hosted a discussion this month in support of a new marketing campaign for Jones Road, her friend Bobbi Brown’s four-year-old beauty brand.
“I was ‘the pretty one,’” Ms. Steinem said of her early days as a journalist and activist. Back then, she recalled, there was a widely held perception — or a “ridiculous notion,” as she put it — “that feminists were women who couldn’t get men.”
She was reminiscing in her living room on the Upper East Side of Manhattan with Ms. Brown , 67, and a group of women in a range of professions, among them the actress Naomi Watts, who recently started a line of menopause products ; Carla Hassan, the chief marketing officer at JPMorgan Chase; and Suleika Jaouad, the documentary film producer and writer who won an Emmy Award for her video series documenting her experiences with cancer for The New York Times.
The women spoke candidly about any number of irksome issues while discussing Ms. Brown’s new campaign for Jones Road, which she started after the expiration of a 25-year noncompete agreement she signed with Estée Lauder Companies when it acquired her namesake brand, Bobbi Brown Cosmetics.
The largely digital campaign, called “I Am Me,” urges women of varying ages and backgrounds to focus on what they like about themselves — the features that make them distinctive. It is but the latest expression of Ms. Brown’s longtime insistence on bucking industry concepts of how makeup should look and be marketed.
Ms. Brown was brought up in the Midwest, in a culture that preferred leggy blondes, she said in a phone interview on Tuesday. Growing up, she had never considered herself “the pretty one.”
Years later she arrived at an epiphany. “I finally realized, Dude, you’re a good-looking, short brunette — just go with it,” she said.
Not that she is averse to a few strategic tweaks. Ms. Brown has had laser treatments to remove dark spots and, yes, she has dyed her hair. “I happen to like the way I look with dark hair,” she said.
Ms. Steinem, who has rarely worn lipstick and relies mostly on moisturizer and a bit of eye makeup, said in a phone interview on Wednesday that Ms. Brown’s realistic approach to beauty was commendable.
“Bobbi is not in pursuit of glamour,” she said. “She is encouraging women to embrace who they are — wrinkles, freckles and all.”
A Salon With Snippets of Southern France
At Maison Seventy Seven, a recently opened salon at the western edge of SoHo in Manhattan, there are no junior stylists covered in tattoos, no raucous songs pulsing through speakers and no owners’ names emblazoned on the door.
Those familiar trappings of many high-end hair salons “are not my way,” said Fabrice Gili, a former creative director at Frédéric Fekkai in New York who started Maison Seventy Seven with the hairstylist David Cotteblanche.
Mr. Gili, 55, said they conceived their salon as the antithesis of the high-polish and often forbiddingly austere beauty temples of uptown Manhattan. With a cheery display of straw and felt fedoras at its entrance, a palm tree wall mural and small back garden where customers can get haircuts, the space is meant to conjure a relaxing slice of Mr. Gili’s native South of France.
Informal as its atmosphere may be, Maison Seventy Seven salon still has some trappings of its more genteel counterparts, including a bar stocked liberally with coffees, liquors and Champagne. There is also a selection of products for sale like salves, aromatherapy bath salts, dried floral arrangements and witty ceramics.
Since opening in March, the salon has drawn patrons ranging in age from 20-something to 70-something with its menu of haircuts (starting at $175), single-process color treatments (starting at $170) and highlights (starting at $330), said Mr. Gili, who learned his craft from some of Europe’s leading hairstylists, like Bruno Pittini and Jean-Louis David .
Mr. Gili’s career was also heavily influenced by that of his mother, who owned a salon in Bordeaux that he described as a gathering place for the women of his community.
It was there, he said, that he learned “it is important to touch people in ways they don’t expect, especially to touch them with laughter, which is becoming really rare.”
“A sense of humor is important,” he continued. “Before we fix the hair, we have to fix the brain.”

Every Chef I Talked to Loves This Tortilla Press
If you’ve ever had a made-from-scratch tortilla fresh off a comal, you understand: No premade grocery-store tortilla can possibly compare. Whether it’s a fragrant, slightly sweet corn tortilla or a still warm, slightly nutty flour tortilla, the difference between the homemade kind and the discs sitting in plastic on the shelf is so vast they may as well be totally separate food groups.
The most essential tool to making fresh tortillas at home is a good tortilla press. Sure, you can use a rolling pin or a wine bottle to flatten them out individually, but as I found out firsthand when I took up tortilla-making as a pandemic hobby, hand-rolling each of them gets old fast, particularly since I rarely made tortillas in batches of fewer than a dozen. Not only is a tortilla press much quicker at flattening the masa for tortillas into a pliable circular shape ready for griddling, it helps ensure that the thickness of your tortillas is consistent, which means that they’ll cook more evenly. Plus, you can use it to make other flatbreads at home, like roti, parathas, naan, or pita. I’ve even used mine to flatten pie dough.
A press is a pretty simple gadget. It’s essentially two flat plates attached with a hinge that allow you to put something in between them. You use a handle to press down on the contents inside, applying even pressure to flatten them. (Typically, you line the press with a plastic bag or parchment paper to prevent the tortilla dough from sticking, another lesson I learned the hard way.) When I started looking into tortilla presses, I learned that there are two major genres. The first is a circular press, usually made out of aluminum or cast iron. The second are square presses, usually also made of metal, though sometimes wood.
One square press stood out in my research: a jewel-colored, sleek, metal number that popped up repeatedly among the Mexican chefs I follow on social media. I noticed it in the Instagram Stories of Bricia Lopez , co-owner of Guelaguetza in Los Angeles and author of Asada , and in the kitchen behind Mi Cocina writer Rick Martinez in his videos of his kitchen in Mazatlán. When I reached out to Martinez to ask, he confirmed: It was the Doña Rosa Tortilla Press, an artisan-made press from Oaxaca distributed in the U.S. by the masa harina brand Masienda.
“I love this press so much,” Martinez told me. “I have two of them. It is so beautiful that it makes me want to make tortillas from scratch just so I can pull it out and use it.”
The press is made out of powder-coated rolled steel, which means that not only is it an appealing pop of color for your kitchen — it comes in a cobalt blue, a seafoam green, a bright, poppy yellow, white, and black — it also is a serious piece of equipment. The weight of the press, Martinez explained, is key. It means that it doesn’t wiggle back and forth while you use it. “I love the heft of it. It is virtually indestructible, and lasts forever, which is why a lot of restaurants and taco stands in Mexico use them,” Martinez said. (Plus, when Mi Cocina came out, the brand released an edition in pink to match the cover of the book.)
It’s not just Martinez, though. As I reached out to chefs for their thoughts on the best tortilla press, time and time again, I got the same answer: the Doña Rosa . Ana Castro, the New Orleans–based chef-owner of Acamaya, is also a huge fan. “They are the real deal; they are made in Mexico by Doña Rosa, she’s a master of her craft and has been producing them for longer than I have been alive,” Castro said. Plus, she appreciates that with the Doña Rosa , unlike the traditional circular cast-iron models, you can adjust the thickness of the tortilla that you’re serving. “This tortilla press is the last one you’ll ever buy,” Castro said.
It’s also the press that Chef Fermín Núñez uses in his masa-centric restaurants in Austin. “Masienda’s Doña Rosa Tortilla Press is what we use at both of our restaurants, Suerte and Este, to make fresh corn tortillas daily,” Nunez explained. “A good tortilla press should be high quality and have some weight to it. Masienda’s has both, which is exactly why we use theirs in the restaurants.”
When I got my hands on a Doña Rosa press to try it out, I had to agree. (I chose the seafoam-green one.) Though I am far from a master at making tortillas, the Doña Rosa tortilla press was a joy to use. It’s sturdy enough that I never worry about it slipping on the counter, and it quickly and evenly flattens masa into discs. The adjustable-thickness option makes it particularly versatile for use with other flatbreads, too. And it’s a pleasing object to have in my kitchen — always at the ready, reminding me that fresh tortillas aren’t that far away.
