FAQ about our Vietnam tours

Because Vietnam is a long expanse of country, the best time to travel depends very much on the region. North Vietnam has the driest periods from December to April, but it can also be quite cold during the winter months. In South Vietnam it is hot all year round, only it has a similar period without rain as the north. In central Vietnam, the dry season does not start until around the end of March and April and continues until about June.

Yes, regardless of which country you come from, you need a visa in Vietnam to enter. Fortunately for most nationalities can arrange this online.

To be sure of availability, we recommend booking a few days in advance for day tours. For complete Vietnam round tours it is useful to book at least 2 to 3 months in advance. When you travel during the absolute high season, it is even good to book further in advance.

For hundreds of years, the region was ruled by various Chinese dynasties, but in 905, the Vietnamese gained independence as a result of uprisings. Vietnam entered an era of independence in 938, marking the end of this period of Chinese imperial rule.

Recent History

French colonialists who took over Vietnam following the Sino-French War of 1884 and 1885 had an influence on it during the 19th century. Parts of Vietnam were included in French Indochina and Cambodia, and Laos which was created in 1887. First, after Vietnamese troops beat French forces in the Indochina War in 1954, the French were finally forced to give up control of the internal independence movements they had long sought to stifle. Vietnam was split up after this conflict, with separate governments in the north (headed by Ho Chi Minh) and the south (led by Ngo Dinh Diem, with American support).

The second Indochina War caused widespread destruction and upheaval for the Vietnamese people, and as a result, a large number of individuals left Vietnam in search of sanctuary in other parts of the world. Vietnam's economy had almost completely collapsed by the 1980s, which prompted additional waves of emigration from Vietnam. Vietnam has lately profited from the free economy that was established in 1986. Vietnam's economy is still growing, with agricultural and manufacturing serving as the foundation and the tour operators also making a contribution. Despite the fact that many Vietnamese people are living in poverty, literacy rates have increased significantly.

When is the best time/month to travel to vietnam.

With Vietnam being such a long country spanning over 1,000 miles, it’s impossible to give a simple answer to this popular question. Come rain or shine, Vietnam is one of those destinations that keeps giving and can be travelled throughout the whole year. November through to April is more popular with there being less rainfall. It’s also important to note that the north can get a little chilly from December to February (bring a few warm layers). Otherwise, the South stays pretty hot all year. We run our small group tours in Vietnam all year round.

How many days in Vietnam is enough?

It’s no secret - Vietnam is a big country with lots to see and do, but this shouldn’t put you off as it’s a perfect destination for solo travellers. We suggest giving yourself a solid 2-3 weeks, this will give you enough time to really experience everything Vietnam has to offer. Navigating the various transportation options can be a bit overwhelming at first, but fear not! Our tours in Vietnam are designed to take away all the hassles and worries of planning your trip and travelling alone. We’ll handle all the tough/boring stuff, giving you the freedom to enjoy each and every day to the fullest 🙌🏼

Do I need a visa to travel to Vietnam?

For some, Vietnam is a very easy country to visit with a simple ‘Visa on Arrival’ process for nationalities such as the UK (not including Ireland) and a few other countries. The ‘Visa on Arrival’ allows you 15 days when entering Vietnam. If you need longer or your passport doesn’t qualify for the ‘Visa on Arrival’, you can apply for a one-month visa online or at your local Vietnamese embassy. It’s always a good idea to apply for a visa if you’re unsure of your plans to give you the opportunity to stay longer. Be sure to do your own research, as each country/passport will have different entry requirements, and the rules can often change. It's your responsibility to ensure you've ticked all the necessary boxes to enter Vietnam hassle-free. *You must check your visa eligibility as we are not visa experts. What injections/vaccinations do I need for Vietnam?

Similar to visas, we are not medical professionals and would hate to give you false or misleading information. We recommend you book an appointment with your doctor or local pharmacy to discuss your travel plans and what precautions you need to be aware of. They will provide up-to-date guidance and will no doubt have your vaccination/immunisation history on file. What about COVID-19 travel restrictions in Vietnam?

Are group tours in Vietnam worth it? Why would I not just travel solo?

I am looking to come alone, do many people travel solo.

Yes, absolutely! Most people actually come alone, with there often being a few people travelling together either as friends or as a couple. Our trips are perfect for solo travellers as you'll make friends from the moment you arrive, and you'll have the confidence and security of doing it as a group.

How much money do you need for 2 weeks in Vietnam?

Once you've booked your flights, paid off your trip and got some solid travel insurance, you'll be all set for that Vietnam adventure. We suggest bringing no less than £300/$400, but this should be the bare minimum. We suggest working from an average of £400-500/$500-700 over 2 weeks, this will cover things like shopping, drinks, extra meals and anything else you fancy treating yourself to... maybe a few massages!?

What should I book first, the flights or the tour?

Great question! We always suggest getting the trip locked in first before booking flights. This way, you won’t be left disappointed if the trip goes full and you’ve already booked your flights. There are usually plenty of flight tickets available, but the spaces are limited with our trips, and the trips fill up pretty fast. We suggest booking your trip first, followed by your flight, and then purchasing your travel insurance to cover all eventualities. Getting these three out of the way as soon as possible is a good idea.

How far in advance do you recommend booking my trip to Vietnam?

The average traveller typically books their trip 3-4 months in advance, which usually means there are plenty of options when it comes to dates. If you decide to book last minute, be prepared for limited availability. If you have your heart set on a specific date or trip, consider placing a deposit right away.

Our small group trip to Vietnam caters to travelers in their 20s and 30s looking for picturesque old town architecture in Hoi An, soaring limestone landscapes in Halong Bay, and energetic streets full of history, motorbikes, and delicious cuisine in Hanoi. We'll kick things off beneath brightly colored lanterns that hang between 400-year-old yellow stucco homes and shops in Vietnam's most atmospheric town to learn about this ancient culture. From there, we'll head to more remote parts of the country - Ninh Binh and Halong Bay - for local adventure and our first glimpse of Vietnam's iconic towering jungle landscapes. Eventually, we'll wind up in Hanoi, the bustling capital full of culture, fantastic food, chaotic streets, and hundreds of boutique shops (perfect for souvenir shopping!). With adventurous local excursions and some of the world's best cuisine, the Vietnam trip is a uniquely moving and culturally immersive bucket list experience.

    Day 1 - Hoi An Xin Chào

We'll begin our journey through Vietnam along the ancient streets of this stunning coastal village, a UNESCO World Heritage Site consistently named one of the most beautiful towns in Southeast Asia.  After you settle into your hotel, meet up with the group for rooftop drinks overlooking the excitement, followed by a delicious modern Vietnamese dinner. From there, head out to spend the rest of your first night in Vietnam wandering the ancient lantern-lit streets of Hoi An with your new travel crew.   Welcome to Vietnam.

Day 2 - Hoi An

Like a local.

Enjoy a quiet morning and your first delicious breakfast before joining a local guided walking tour for a dive into Vietnam's history, culture, and cuisine. After that, you're free to crisscross through Hoi An's old streets on your own before meeting up with the group for a leisurely bike ride into the countryside. We'll twist through stunning scenes of winding village paths and lush rice paddies—the views are superb and we're likely to have this little bit of paradise all to ourselves (P.S. if you can't ride a bike, we can arrange a tuk-tuk for you!). With the Truong Son Mountains in the distance, you'll join a Vietnamese family for a unique farming experience and a deeper look into local life. Then, round out the day with a cooking class where you'll prepare your own authentic Vietnamese dinner.

    Day 3 - Hoi An Old Town Strolls

Today's free to relax or explore with friends. Catch up on sleep if you need to, then grab some more of that oh so delicious cà phê sua đá and a bánh mì for breakfast. Stroll between the cracked walls of the ancient town or get your final fittings on that brand new áo dài. If you're up for some exercise, split a cab to the Marble Mountains and explore the caves, passageways, and ancient temples. Take your time climbing the 156 steps to the top; the views of the East Sea, Danang, and Hoi An make it completely worthwhile. Grab a lift back to Hoi An and walk across the bridge over the Thu Bồn River to check out the stalls beneath the hanging lanterns of one of Vietnam's most romantic night markets.

    Day 4 - Ninh Binh IN NATURE

After a short flight up to Hanoi, we'll head out of the city in our private transfer to the limestone jungles of Ninh Binh. We'll grab lunch at a local restaurant, and then we're visiting a surreal region of caves and rocky overhangs that stretches along the Ngo Dong River. Surrounded by wild scenery, we'll take a two-hour boat trip downstream, past rugged mountains, rice paddies, and ancient temples poking out of the jungle. After a day spent cruising in limestone paradise, you're evening is free; find a local spot with little red plastic chairs, grab a drink and some tasty Bún Chả, and take in your unreal surroundings with the crew.

    Day 5 - Ha Long Bay To the Bay

Today, we're getting up bright and early to make our way to the coast. We'll board a beautiful boat and head off to explore Halong Bay and its endless expanse of rocky jungled islands. After you settle into your cabin at sea and enjoy a chef-prepared 3-course meal, you can choose to either visit an ancient island cave or check out a local fishing village to learn about the traditional Halong way of life. That evening, enjoy cocktails on deck while watching the sunset floating between Halong Bay's otherworldly rock formations.

Day 6 - Ha Long Bay

Water wonders.

Wake up early to start your day with a sunrise Tai Chi session on the top deck with one hell of a seaside view, or sleep in and enjoy a leisurely breakfast on board. After that, it's time for a 4-course lunch as we cruise through thousands of limestone islands and islets in search of more secluded areas to swim, kayak, or soak up the sun. That evening, relax on the sundeck with a good book, play cards with your new friends, or chat with the friendly boat staff about their lives in Vietnam over a Bia Hà Nội.

Day 7 - Hanoi

Vespa adventure.

Get up early if you're in the mood for some more sunrise Tai Chi before we head back to land and make our way to the capital and largest city in northern Vietnam—Hanoi! We'll arrive in the early afternoon, and you'll have some free time to settle in or explore a bit on your own. Our hotel is in the middle of town, with easy access to lively local shops, restaurants, and cafes! In the evening, hop on the back of a Vespa for the ride of your life through Hanoi's action-packed neighborhoods with stops at the most delicious in-the-know foodie spots in town. We'll end the night with cocktails at a jazz club hidden behind the old opera house!

Day 8 - Hanoi

Hello hanoi.

Head out to join a walking tour and learn more about Hanoi's fascinating culture. With a history that dates back 10-20,000 years, the eclectic capital is known for its complex cuisine, ancient architecture, energetic nightlife, and ornate hand-made goods. The afternoon is open for you to wander on your own; we highly recommend checking out the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum or wandering the old streets of the French Quarter before sitting down for a bowl of delicious pho like the locals. That evening, we'll meet up for drinks to watch the sun set over Hanoi before our farewell dinner. The rest of the evening is for you and your new travel crew to enjoy some Saturday night mischief in Vietnam's hustling and bustling capital:)

Day 9 - Hanoi

Until next time.

Sadly, today is our last day together in this incredible country. We'll enjoy one final breakfast with the group before heading our separate ways. The hotel can store your bags if you have a later flight (which we recommend!) and want to do some more exploring on your own! If you've got a few more days, consider flying south to Ho Chi Minh City, the chaotic, action-packed economic powerhouse in southern Vietnam, and then heading off to the Cu Chi Tunnels to learn more about the nation's history. From there, you could keep going south to visit the Mekong Delta or even find a super cheap beach resort down on Phu Quoc island.

Motorbikes are the most common form of transport in Vietnam.

Cà phê trứng - or coffee prepared with egg yolk - is a popular way to enjoy coffee in Vietnam! And it's so deliciously creamy, like a mini cup of tiramisu.

While we can’t guarantee private rooms, you sho uld book your trip earlier if you prefer one, as they usually fill up.

You will need a Tourist Visa to enter Vietnam. You can obtain a visa upon arrival by applying online prior to the trip. Processing time generally takes anywhere from 7-10 business days and will cost around $65.  For all other nationalities, please check here ​ ​​.

We can accommodate dietary requirements, but we do need to know ahead of time. Severe nut allergies will be more difficult since nut oils are used frequently in the local food.

This is a fascinating and rewarding time to see the country, however you do need to be prepared for some businesses to be closed, tourist sites to be very busy and for transport to be packed as many Vietnamese are travelling around the country. Please consider your travel arrangements carefully before booking travel for this period.

Welcome to Vietnam! Arrive in Ho Chi Minh City where you'll be met and transferred to your hotel. An important group meeting will take place here at 6pm, where you will meet your fellow travellers and local leader. If you do have time, get out and acquaint yourself with the city beforehand – it is a bustling centre of shopping, historic sites and traffic mayhem. After your meeting, head out for dinner with your small group and leader. As you arrive at your restaurant you’ll step straight into a piece of Vietnamese history – the building was an old opium refinery station built in 1861, and nods to its past still visible today. Here you’ll enjoy a menu bursting with classic dishes and southern Vietnamese favourites – your leader will be on hand to provide recommendations for your first foray into this exciting food scene.

The arrival transfer is only valid if arriving on Day 1 or if you have booked pre-trip accommodation through us. Please provide your flight details at the time of booking, or at a minimum 14 days prior to travel, as we may not be able to confirm a request made within 14 days of travel. .

It’s very important that you attend the welcome meeting as we will be collecting insurance details and next of kin information at this time. If you are going to be late please let your travel agent or hotel reception know. Ask reception or look for a note in the lobby for more information on where the meeting will take place.

Rooms at the Paragon Saigon Hotel, and in Ho Chi Minh City in general, are compact given the building style and central location.

After breakfast, drive south towards the Mekong Delta via the region of Ben Tre. Here you will board a private boat and cruise the delta, stopping off at some coconut gardens to visit a local home where you’ll sample tropical fruits and coconut jams. Afterwards, return to the waterways of the delta on board sampans (small rowing boats) and row past the coconut trees and stilt houses that flank the river. Back on land, take a tuk-tuk tour around the villages for a glimpse at rural life and to learn how the coconut industry plays into local life. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant then return to Ho Chi Minh City for an evening at leisure.

• Mekong Delta - Boat cruise with visits to local producers

Today’s total driving time is approximately 4 hours.

Today you’ll see Ho Chi Minh City through the eyes of a local during a bus and walking tour with your leader. Visit the famous Reunification Palace and hear the story of the end of the war, take a sobering trip to the War Remnants Museum and stop by the beautiful Romanesque Notre Dame Cathedral. Stroll the city’s captivating streets and admire its many French colonial buildings along the way, including the main post office, and the gorgeous Ho Chi Minh City Hall, modelled on Paris’s Hotel de Ville. The rest of the evening is yours – be sure to ask your leader for recommendations on some great local spots for dinner.

This morning after breakfast, head on a half-day trip to the Cu Chi Tunnels – an extensive underground network (some 200 kilometres) of tunnels dug initially by the Viet Minh and later expanded by the Viet Cong. They contained hospitals, dwellings and schools and were used extensively for refuge and storage, as well as being a military base. As you explore this extraordinary labyrinth your leader will explain more about its history and the 1968 Tet Offensive. A section of the tunnels has been widened to allow visitors to get a feel for what the underground life must have been like. Please note that these tunnels will be hot and can get claustrophobic, so there is an option if you’d like to view from above ground. Later this afternoon, fly to Dalat.

Today’s flight is approximately 1 hour.

Dalat is high in Vietnam’s southern highlands, and is surrounded by hills, pine forests, lakes and waterfalls – it is a natural mountain paradise. Dalat, commonly known as the City of Flowers, is part of a region ideal for growing crops and flowers that cannot be otherwise grown in Vietnam, because of its temperate climate and high rainfall. Today you will have the chance to learn some more about your morning brew and see behind the scenes of speciality coffee production during a tour of a local family-run coffee farm. Follow the journey from growth to harvesting and roasting, and taste some of the carefully crafted final result yourself, leaving with a new appreciation for the humble cup of coffee. Sit down for lunch with the group, then enjoy a free afternoon. You may like to visit the historic Bao Dai palace, or perhaps take a wander around the vibrant local markets.

Enjoy a free morning in Dalat – perhaps head to the Crazy House – a bizarre guesthouse commissioned by avant-garde architect Hang Nga, who still lives on site. In the afternoon, take a short flight to Danang. From here you will embark on a short ride by private vehicle to Hoi An, originally a Cham port town. Hoi An is renowned for its specialist tailors and some do same-day turnaround, so perhaps take this opportunity to get some clothing made from some unique local fabrics. You might also like to visit a local workshop to learn how to make your own rice paper. A Vietnamese cooking class too is a great way to familiarise yourself with some age-old culinary techniques, not to mention feasting on the fruits of your own labour!

The flight route from Dalat to Da Nang has been suspended with no clear indication of when it will resume. Until flights on the route become available, you will fly to Da Nang via Ho Chi Minh City, adding approximately 2.5 hours to the total travelling time.

Join your leader on a walking tour this morning to discover the Hoi An’s stunning architecture and unique mix of influences. With its charming low tiled houses and tranquil feel, this is a delightful town to walk around. Start with a visit to an opulently decorated historic house that was once home to a prominent trader. Cross the Japanese Covered Bridge, stop by the Chinese assembly hall and pay a visit to a local museum to learn more about the history you uncovered on your walk. Afterwards, sit down to a delicious lunch with the group. This afternoon you are free to make the most of Hoi An and its surrounding areas. Your leader will be able to help with suggestions for extra activities in Hoi An and the nearby countryside.

A significant port of the Champa Kingdom for centuries, many Cham descendants are still living in Hoi An today. This morning your leader will guide you around My Son Cham, a collection of temples constructed by the Kings of Champa and dating back to the 4th century. Learn about the ancient architecture of this UNESCO site, and see the craters created by American bombs during the war. After exploring the temples, experience an Apsara dance performance, featuring sparkling traditional costumes, panpipes, and drums. The afternoon is free for more exploration, or to relax by the pool at your hotel.

• Hoi An - My Son Tour

Depart Hoi An today bound for Hue, the former imperial capital and hub of Vietnam's historic past. En route, pass through the Hai Van Pass – a scenic mountainous stretch of highway with views across Lang Co beach. Arrive in Hue and discover its eclectic mix of frenetic streets and peaceful beauty. In the afternoon you will visit the Imperial Citadel, including the Forbidden Purple City. The latter was almost completely destroyed during the Tet Offensive in the Vietnam War, but its humble, foliage-covered ruins remain a testament to its proud history. Here your leader will provide some insight into the horrific damage endured during the war.

Today’s total driving time is approximately 3 hours.

Loosen your belt and ready your appetite as today you will be diving into Hue’s fabulous culinary scene. First up, head to a street food eatery for a seriously tasty breakfast – Bun Bo Hue. This spicy noodle soup is usually made with beef and pig knuckles and is an absolute must-try while in Hue. Then, meet with a local chef and explore a bustling local market where you will taste and smell all the wonderful herbs and ingredients that bring local dishes to life, while learning more about the culture of Vietnamese cuisine along the way. Stop for lunch and enjoy some of Hue’s most celebrated dishes. Continue to the local chef’s delightful home where you will learn how to cook up some simple and delicious dishes using the fresh ingredients you picked up at the market. Take your new knowledge and local recipes back home with you so you can recreate meals that will take you straight back to Vietnam. Later in the afternoon, take a visit to the Thien Mu Pagoda, the unofficial symbol of Hue. The Pagoda is an active Buddhist monastery that dates back to 1601. You will also visit the elaborate royal tomb of Emperor Tu Duc, with its beautiful lake, frangipani and pine trees, and the Imperial Citadel.

Fly from Hue to Hanoi today. Your departure will mostly likely be in the morning but can vary a little depending on flight schedules. Settle in on arrival, then your leader will guide you through the ancient 36 Streets to discover a varied selection of shop-lined alleys that sell everything from souvenirs to exquisite silk clothing, jewellery and embroidered tablecloths. In the afternoon, you will be treated to a traditional Hat Xam performance – this is truly an experience like no other. Hat Xam is an artform of Northern Vietnam dating back to the Tran Dynasty. Originally, this was performed by blind performers, and was enjoyed by local working-class audiences, right up until the late 1950s, when a wave of communism deemed all art forms to be corrupting influences. Today, this style of performance occurs rarely, but you and your group will be taken to a private club house for an exclusive performance; one of the few places where such artists still perform acoustically. The performance includes some story telling aspects and possibly interaction with guests, so be ready to get involved!

The Vietnam Fine Arts museum is well worth a visit, and walking is a great way to explore the city and its many lakes and parks. You'll see that this enchanting northern capital can be quieter than its southern counterpart, and the West Lake, north of the main city, is an ideal place to interact with the locals and relax by its banks.

Today you will drive to Halong Bay – this World Heritage listed wonder is undoubtedly one of the world’s most spectacular sights. There’s no better way to appreciate the bay’s beauty than on board a junk-style boat – your Feature Stay accommodation for the evening. Carefully designed with traditional touches and modern amenities, you can sit back in complete comfort as you weave through stunning limestone islands, karsts and caves. Stop by Surprise Cave to discover its interesting rock formations with you leader, then retire to the boat for a marvellous seafood lunch. During the warmer months your leader will discuss the option for swimming from Ti Top Island. There is also the option for kayaking to get up close to the towering limestone karsts. This evening’s dinner is sure to be a standout – dine on the deck of the boat by candlelight and watch the sun go down over the magnificent landscape.

Today’s total travel time is approximately 3 hours. Your main luggage can be left in the hotel in Hanoi. Surprise Cave is accessed via staircases but the pathways inside can be a little uneven and slippery, so good walking shoes or sandals will be useful.

Swimming in the bay from the boats is banned. Kayaking is restricted to designated zones within the bay.

Your wooden junk-style boat has twin-share cabins with en suite facilities and air-conditioning. Due to the limited cabins on board, the single supplement is excluded, and accommodation will be on a twin-share basis.

Local authorities only permit a limited number of boats to stay overnight in Halong Bay. To ensure all travellers can be accommodated on board available boats, on occasion you will stay on a larger boat (with up to 12 cabins) and share your boat with another group. Or, your group may be split across different vessels, in which case a group leader will be present on each boat, and the route taken and inclusions on board will remain the same. In order to arrange the best possible boat, the overnight on Halong Bay may be moved 1 day prior due to availability. If this is the case, the Hanoi touring will be done the day after the Halong Bay overnight cruise.

In the morning, enjoy breakfast on board the boat and perhaps take part in some optional Tai Chi to start off the day. Sail back to the port, disembark and travel back to Hanoi. Arriving back in the capital, enjoy some time to wander around and enjoy some of the city’s attractions you may have missed the first time. You can shop on Hang Gai Street or perhaps enjoy some afternoon tea at the Metropole Hotel. In the evening, join your group and leader for a final dinner in a Hanoi restaurant, sharing stories and reflecting on the highlights of your adventure with your newfound friends.

Our 3 day/2 night Sapa Adventure takes you to Northern Vietnam to explore Sapa's breathtaking rice terraces. Our Sapa Adventure is guided by a local Hmong guide who will show you the best spots in the area.

DAY 1 WELCOME TO HANOI

Our trip begins with a welcome dinner at our favourite restaurant in Hanoi. Meet your group and share a few drinks with your new travel mates. Get ready to party, Hanoi-style! Grab a stool and join the crowd for some locally brewed beer. Mingle and dance with locals and other travellers in the laneways of Hanoi.

DAY 2 FOODIE TOUR

One thing Vietnam is famous for is the diverse range of exotic food. Today, our local guide will take us on a tour to some hidden places where you can sample tasty, interesting food and local delicacies whilst getting to know the city.

DAY 3 HALONG BAY

Cruise Halong Bay and Lan Ha Bay. Enjoy the magical scenery as we cruise and kayak through crystal clear waters past hundreds of limestone cliffs. Tonight, we stay on the boat anchored in a secluded cove within Halong Bay watching the sunset over the picturesque landscape.

DAY 4 HALONG BAY

This morning we explore more of Halong Bay and take in the panoramic views at Sung Sot Cave. In the afternoon we cruise back to Hanoi for some free time until taking the overnight train to Danang

DAY 5 DA NANG – HOI AN

Explore this beautiful town where life is amazingly laid-back with a city center perfect for relaxing, eating and shopping and a stunning beach a short bike ride away. With colourful lanterns hanging from trees, buildings and shops all around town, Hoi An is known as the City of Lanterns. At night, they light up the streets and we’ll take you on a walk through town and show you our favourite bars.

DAY 6 HOI AN TO NINH HOA – NHA TRANG

You think you’ve had good food before? You haven’t tried proper Vietnamese cuisine – made in Vietnam, by you! Meet your guide at 9AM in your hotel lobby before heading to your cooking class. Learn to cook the most delicious dishes in a private cooking class. Yum Yum! After lunch, explore at your leisure, but don’t worry, your guide will be there to recommend the best way to spend your afternoon! Meet your guide at the hotel to get the sleeper bus taking you to Hoa-Nha Trang.

DAY 7 NHA TRANG

Arrive in the early morning and enjoy free time in Nha Trang . The main beach in the city stretches for about 6 kilometers and offers pristine white sand and turquoise waters. It’s a great place for swimming, sunbathing, and water sports. Today is a free day to explore Nha Trang, your Group Leader will highlight the best sights to visit and areas to explore.

DAY 8 Nha Trang – Dalat

Da Lat is a mountainous town situated in the Central Highlands region, known for its cool climate, picturesque landscapes, and colonial-era architecture. Enjoy some free time to explore De Lats coffee plantations, walking trails, delicious street food or get amongst the bustling market culture.

DAY 9 DA LAT CANYONING

Today get ready for the ultimate thrill! We’ll head to the woods, get our gear and start the adventure in the canyon. Hike through lush green rain forest, do some abseiling, walk down a pounding waterfall before we get to the ‘washing machine’. Adrenaline rush guaranteed!

DAY 10 DALAT – SAIGON

We leave the mountains and take the bus to our final stop, Ho Chi Minh City. This city is buzzing with culture, offering a blend of history, modernity, and vibrant energy, great for a night out and final stop of the tour.

DAY 11 SAIGON

Obviously, you can’t visit Vietnam and not learn about the country’s history including the Vietnam War. Our local guide takes us to the Cu Chi Tunnels and gives us a good insight into what happened here. Later tonight we get ready for the final night and enjoy farewell drinks on one of the rooftop bars. Tonight’s accommodation is still included in your tour.

DAY 12 SAIGON – FAREWELL

Time to check out (unless you choose to stay a little longer) and make your way to whatever is next on your list. Whether it’s just heading to the airport to catch your flight home or travelling on to more adventures, we will help you with the planning..

The Southeast Asian country is set to be high on the list for Aussies going overseas in 2024. The number of Australian tourists in Vietnam now exceeds pre-pandemic levels: more than 317,000 Australians visited Vietnam in 2019 , while there were 390,000 Aussie visitors in 2023.

Plus, as more and more flights become available, such as low-cost carrier Vietjet Air launching a direct service between Hanoi and Melbourne earlier this year, getting to Vietnam is becoming easier for Australians.

If the direct flights, fascinating history, vast scenery and delicious food aren’t enough to convince Australian travellers, the cost may be. Vietnam is considered one of the cheapest travel destinations in the world for Australian tourists due to our strong conversion rate against the Vietnamese Dong and the nation’s low cost of living in comparison to our own.

And while cheap thrills may be what you’re after on your vacation, it’s important not to skimp on the necessities that may cost that little bit extra—such as travel insurance. This guide outlines what you need to know regarding travel insurance in Vietnam.

Investing in travel insurance is a good idea for any overseas trip. Travel insurance policies can help protect you from having to dive deep into your pockets, with many offering unlimited medical treatment while abroad and cancellation cover for your trip should the unexpected occur.

Travel insurance is not just handy for medical purposes or travel changes, either. Your personal items can be covered, should any baggage go missing or an important item be stolen—which, unfortunately, often occurs in Vietnam.

Smarttraveller warns Australians to be alert at all times in Vietnam, considering petty theft–including bag slashing–is common in tourist areas and crowded places, especially during holiday times. Snatch-and-grab theft by thieves on motorcycles is also common, the website states.

Like most international travel insurance policies, you will be able to find basic coverage for your trip to Vietnam, or choose to opt for a more comprehensive, albeit more expensive, policy.

While a basic policy will often cover medical expenses and lost luggage,a comprehensive policy includes a lot more. Most basic policies also likely won’t offer compensation for travel delays, stolen cash, accidental death and more.

Additionally, if you are going on a trip to multiple countries within the year, it may be worth opting for an ‘annual multi trip’ insurance instead—making sure that there are no exclusions to the regions you are wishing to visit.

Visa Requirements For Australians Travelling to Vietnam

You’ll still be allowed to travel to Vietnam if you don’t invest in travel insurance, but you do so at your own risk—and, as stated, it is highly advised to have a travel insurance policy for any overseas trip.

However, what you cannot do is enter Vietnam as an Australian tourist without a tourist visa. While Vietnam will grant Australian citizens visas on arrival, applying for one online is much easier.

A tourist visa costs under $100 AUD; however the exact price depends on your length of stay.

The Vietnamese government may consider waiving visas for Australian citizens, especially since many other SEA countries have done so such as Indonesia and Thailand .

However, at the time of writing, Forbes Advisor Australia has confirmed that Australian citizens must still obtain a visa to visit Vietnam for tourism purposes.

The exact inclusions of your travel insurance will be dependent on your personal policy and the provider.

However, generally speaking, you can expect a travel insurance policy for Vietnam to offer some level of cover for:

• Medical expenses;
• Lost, damaged or stolen luggage;
• Travel cancellations or delays ;
• Personal liability;
• Credit card fraud;
• Covid-19 expenses;

If you are partaking in certain sports and activities, you will need to make sure that you choose a policy that covers them. You’ll also need to make sure that your policy covers any pre-existing medical conditions as well.

Plus, if you are travelling with valuables, you may wish to opt for a policy that lets you increase the protection cover on your items.

Ultimately, you need to consider what your trip consists of, what you will be taking with you, and your physical health to establish what policies would be appropriate for you.

From there, you can compare quotes of different policies and providers to ensure you have the optimal—yet affordable—cover for your trip to Vietnam.

Does Travel Insurance Cover The Ha-Giang Loop?

Considered one of the most scenic motorcycle routes in the world, the Ha-Giang Loop is a popular tourist activity in Vietnam for adventurous travellers. If the Ha-Giang Loop is one of your goals, you’ll need to make sure you have travel insurance that covers motorcycling.

Occasionally a policy may include this as one of their included ‘sports and activities’, but it is more often the case that you will need to purchase an additional ‘adventure pack’ that is either specific to, or includes, motorsports.

Even so, when purchasing an additional pack to cover motorbikes, you need to be cautious of the conditions. For example, some policies will only cover motorcycle riding if the bike you are riding has an engine under a certain size.

Often, coverage will cease and claims won’t be accepted if you haven’t been wearing the correct safety equipment such as boots and a helmet, or have been under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

What Does Travel Insurance Exclude?

Your travel insurance policy may exclude some activities that you wish to partake in, unless you can opt-in to purchase an additional adventure pack as explained above in regards to motorbike riding.

Just like with the inclusions of a policy, the exclusions depend on what type of policy you choose, and what provider you go with.

Commonly, however, you won’t be covered for instances where you:

• Break the law;
• Are under the influence of alcohol or drugs;
• Partake in an excluded activity;
• Receive medical treatment for a pre-existing condition that was not disclosed;
• Travel to a ‘Do Not Travel’ destination as outlined by Smarttraveller.

As always, it is essential to read the product disclosure statement (PDS) of your travel insurance policy carefully to understand what you will and won’t be covered for while overseas.

Do I need a visa to travel to Vietnam?

Yes, as of April 2024, Australian tourists still need a visa to travel to Vietnam. This visa can be obtained on arrival, or purchased online prior to travel. The visa takes approximately three days to process online, and the cost depends on how long you intend to stay in the country.

Does international travel insurance cover Covid-19?

Many comprehensive travel insurance policies now cover Covid-19, including medical conditions related to Covid-19 or trip cancellations due to a Covid-19 diagnosis. However, it is not guaranteed that all policies will. It’s important to check your policy’s PDS carefully to understand what it will and will not cover in regards to Covid-19 for both you and your travelling companions.

On April 24, 2024, the MICHELIN Guide announced its very first Key hotels in the United States — a brand new distinction recognizing the most outstanding hotels in the country. We're thrilled to report that in Chicago, eight hotels earned at least One Key. Of those, half make their home in the kinds of historic buildings that give this city its well-earned reputation as one of the most architecturally distinguished cities in the country. Follow Michigan Avenue north from the heart of the Loop to the Gold Coast and you’ll pass within two blocks of all but one of them. The Chicago Athletic Association sits within a Venetian Gothic landmark. The Gwen makes its home in a storied 1929 Art Deco skyscraper. The Pendry sets up shop in the masterpiece that is the 1929 Art Deco Carbide & Carbon Building. And the lower floors of the Viceroy make use of the meticulously-preserved, 1920s-vintage Cedar Hotel. There are Key hotels too in newer builds, among them the Peninsula (with uniformed bellboys and staffers who seem to know the name of each individual guest) and the Waldorf Astoria , its lobby a marble marvel.
