Up to 40% Cruise Fare Savings Offer (the “Offer”) for all guests. The Offer is for new eligible bookings made between 4 October and 9 November 2023 (the “Offer Period”) on sailings departing 4 October 2023 to 30 April 2025 (the “Sailing Period”) excluding Galapagos sailings & Alaska Cruise Tours.

What Does The X Mean In Celebrity X Cruises?

Ever noticed how Celebrity Cruises has a prominent X on the funnel of their ships or as a part of the logo? In fact, in some places it’s even more prominent – the entire funnel design on Celebrity Edge, for example, is a giant glass-encased X shape.

So what’s with the X, and what does it mean? Let’s take a look.

Why Is The Celebrity Cruises Logo an X?

Technically, the Celebrity Cruises logo is not actually an X, but it is the Greek letter chi, which looks like an X. This is a callback to the history of the cruise line when it was first formed by the Chandris Group, a company based in Greece.

The X formed a part of the original logo for the cruise line and it has been retained even when Celebrity Cruises was bought by the Royal Caribbean Group in 1997. It was originally included to tie the cruise line back to the main group.

Celebrity Cruises was a distinct brand originally set up to offer premium cruising so that the Chandris Group could secure lucrative contracts to sail around Bermuda. The Bermuda government had indicated that Chandris Fantasy Cruises could not be awarded the contracts as they were not premium enough.

As such, Celebrity Cruises was created, with the X added to the logo so that the brand could remain distinctive and yet still call back to the Chandris owners.

Because of the styling of the logo, some people believe that the cruise line’s name is Celebrity X Cruises. However, it has always been known as simply Celebrity Cruises – the placement of the X in the centre of the wording is simply a design choice.

What Does the X Stand For in Celebrity Cruises?

The X in the Celebrity Cruises logo is the Greek letter Chi which stands for Chandris, the name of the Greek family that created the cruise line in 1988. It is the 22nd letter of the Greek alphabet and has been retained as the logo for Celebrity Cruises.

The X is still kept in use by the cruise line, with the expedition cruises arm of the cruise line adopting it as the first letter for two of its ships, the Celebrity Xpedition and Celebrity Xploration (as well as the former ship Celebrity Xperience). The cruise line is moving away from this though – the latest Expedition ship is called Celebrity Flora.

All of the ships across the fleet still tend to include the X in some manner, usually painted onto at least one of the funnels. It was originally downplayed when Celebrity Solstice launched in 2008, being missing from the traditional position on the funnel.

But the X has since been restored, and for now remains a fixture across the cruise line.

The cruise line now states that the X is a mark of luxury. Rather than acknowledging the history of Greek ownership, the Celebrity Cruises website states that it is “the mark of contemporary spaces that are at once coolly sophisticated and warmly inviting”, as well as standing for other defining characteristics of the cruise line.

You could consider the X as a symbol of what makes Celebrity Cruises different, although that’s just how a logo works really.

And it does work – if you see a cruise ship with X on it, you know it’s a Celebrity ship.

The history behind the X in the Celebrity Cruises logo is pretty straightforward. Many experienced cruisers are happy to see the X retained in the logo to this day, with many having fond memories of the cruise line when it was owned by the Chandris family.

For that reason, expect the iconic X to still be included on Celebrity ships that launch for the foreseeable future.

Absolutely amazing cruise with great service

Absolutely amazing cruise with service being great. We had many employees on board going out of their way to help. Cannot mention them all but would like to say thanks to Aries and his team in the restaurant and Trace and Krishna in the Passport bar. Have travelled with Celebrity a few times and have never been disappointed.

Terrible Service

Cruise from Singapore through Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia on the Celebrity Millenium. On arrival found the floor of the cabin covered in masses of blond hairs, reported this and was immediately hoovered. This is after an email that the ship was undergoing a deep clean due to some previous passengers suffering from gastroenteritis. Queuing hours just to get onboard the ship, seemed to be the norm for the next 12 days queuing for everything, meals drinks etc. When complaining the excuse was, its because the ship is full. Ship is now very tired, in the 12 days onboard were never able to get a sunbed, always busy. Paid $140 for an indian night, should of gone to the self service restaurant, indian food is much better there. If you like queuing for everything and being ripped off on trips this is the ship for you.

Not impressed

We haven't actually embarked on our Norway cruise for mid May but as we were given very little advanced information we have discovered all the restaurants included in our package are booked out. We therefore have to pay to eat. We ended up paying for WiFi when we didn't need to and drinking is prohibitively expensive. The lack of information is shocking

Autistic son assaulted by Staff

Impossible to contact Customer Services. Drinks package a scam as most drinks over the $9 limit. Wifi package a scam as it doesn't work. Gratuity package a scam as some individuals actively ask for tips. Water supply to room costs 7$ a day when it 'appears' to be free. Demand payment of account prior to disembarking even though they have debit cards on file. My autistic son assaulted by staff.

Iv read a lot of the reviews and they quite often mention booking through celebrity cruises and there customer service and problems with them. We booked through an independent travel agent and the experience was first class.I would 100% recommend celebrity cruises,we went on celebrity silhouette round the Caribbean,the ship was stunning,the crew couldn’t do enough,the food was top notch,the entertainment was brilliant.I would say don’t blame the ship and crew when having problems with customer service.

They saved our bacon

We have recently returned from Silhouette cruise to Canaries, having booked through Miles. This is not about the cruise itself, which was up to expectation, especially the courteous staff, cabin service, and restaurant staff. (Lee, in Customer service, spent a longtime getting my wife’s iPad onto the internet. Thank you Lee.) Having disembarked, and collected our car, we discovered that we had left our spare car and house keys in the cabin. We drove back to the ship, by now receiving the next batch of guests, and my wife went back in. They were absolutely helpful. After a short wait, yes, they were in the cabin, and they would be sent down! Phew! A good holiday was not ruined.

DO NOT BOOK WITH RAZIA BEATIE

DO NOT BOOK WITH RAZIA BEATIE. The celebrity edge experience is exceptional however dealing with Razia was an absolute nightmare who actually ripped us off by offering us multiple facilities. When asked when the additional facilities were not mentioned on the invoice she said that it would be in booking notes. Long story short. We board the ship and come to know that we never given those facilities. Beware of booking anything with her. She is rude and never replies when you contact her with any queries.

Great staff with wonderful service

Great staff, wonderful service. The ship (silhouette) was stylish and well kept. We had an extremely nice holiday. We loved the choice of food in the buffet and the food was very good. Had some issues with disembarkation via tender with a 2 hour wait. At times we couldn't find a table to sit at in the buffet at lunch.

My wife had $100 cruise credit…

My wife had $100 cruise credit (confirmed in writing), but on her return she was charged $152 instead of $52. No cruise credit allowance. Issue raised by telephone, email and letter. No response from Celebrity. A court claim has now been issued to recover the money. What a hassle!

Non existent customer service

We have travelled with celebrity for many years and have always had excellent service. However, when you do need help, their customer service team is very disappointing. An hour long wait on a phone line I am being charged for and emails that are not answered, has left us wondering if we will ever book with them again.

No refund after 5 months

Originaly a fan of Celebrity. But when my cruise was cancelled due to Covid the deposit refund was agreed 5 months ago. Still no deposit refunded and in order to talk to them its 7p a min, or visit FAQ which say nothing. Cruise date has come and gone and their only comment is that they are "very busy". However their financial systems can handle large numbers of new bookings in seconds if the money is coming in. Very poor communication and definately seeing Celebrity in a new (darker) light. All my other deposits with airlines, theatres etc refunded almost immediately. Celebrity's reputation is shot to pieces with me and will definately go elsewhere when cruising recommences

Celebrity Equinox Caribbean Cruise

Just come back off a cruise around the Caribbean on the Celebrity Equinox cruise ship and I cannot praise the ships crew enough. From captain right down to the cleaning staff they worked hard to make sure everyone had a good time. Nothing was too much trouble for them. There was a wide range of good food, fantastic entertainment to suit everyone. I would strongly recommend Celebrity Cruises to anyone.

Celebrity service standards

like many others I love Celebrity Cruises and woulld choose them over all others. However their service standards have slipped to a new low. onboard ship I expect it to be a fabulous experience but if you have a problem before the cruise the ability to contact them is practically zero. Just had a cruise cancelled and need to have a conversation with them - spent 90 miniutes on the phone and simply gave up. no e-mail address I just don't know how you are supposed to have a meaningful conversation with them if you cannot contact them

Although, as with most things, there have been odd issues that needed addressing, we've always found most of the staff happy to help and resolve any issues. One of our party has several dietary requirements and we have found the restaurant staff both front of house and the chefs and team, very accommodating at preparing safe and tasty dishes. The entertainment has been great, the cabins are spacious and airy and clean, the cabin stewards work really hard, all the staff are friendly, welcoming and helpful. The only negative is the buffet could do with being bigger or having more available areas for seating, and definitely needs better options for people with dietary issues, and better labelling and knowledgeable staff. But they are always happy to help as best they can.

Hooray, 2022 Celebrity does it again!

I've just returned from a second Caribbean cruise with Celebrity. The ship was the Equinox. Companies often ask how they could improve their customer service.Well, based on my experience, I really don't see how they could do any better. Embarkation at Fort Lauderdale after a pre cruise overnight in Miami, was speedy, organised, well staffed and welcoming. Verandah stateroom was perfect and kept spotlessly clean as was entire ship. Food.....spoilt for choice in every food outlet.The cafeteria had a vast choice of quality food all day and the more formal Silhouette Restaurant offered haute cuisine with exemplary service.Facilities throughout the ship, first class including the well equipped gym.Entertainment was satisfactory with a couple of exceptionally good acts, like the Tina Turner tribute singer, the Elysium modern dance and the ship's superb band. Hate to include the cliché 'something for everyone' but there really was. I am an older lady with a young attitude.I travel solo by choice and can't wait for my next Celebrity Cruise.

CANCELLING THE BOOKING BECAUSE OF COVID 19 IS ONE THING. TRYING TO GET THE PROMISED FUTURE CRUSE CREDIT IS ANOTHER ISSUE TWO PROMISED DATES BEEN AND GONE DESPITE TO QUOTE THE COMPANY ' IT HAS BEEN ESCALATED'. TIME ELAPSED 11 WEEKS. PS ...THEY CHARGE YOU TO PHONE THEM???!

Can you get through to Celebrity Cruises???????

Having booked a cruise on line Trying to get in touch is IMPOSSIBLE! E mails no response Call wait a hour the get cut off Eventually get through can’t help u They offer a “ We have got your back” if u book your flights with them Let’s hope the potential issues at Amsterdam do not come to fruition!! In the alternative we booked a cruise with Norwegian Cruise Line.. called them… answered in minutes and now have a direct line and email to an agent responsible for our booking Celebrity get your act together How do you survive in customer driven market in the USA!!!!!

Family cruise.…

Went with family on Silhouette to Norway, the youngest being 18 months.The facilities for this age were not as advertised as we were shown to a room with lots of chairs and he was given a ball and one book to play with.Surely some plastic slides or kitchen costing peanuts in Argos should have been provided,so I would not recommend this ship for toddler. My next disappointment was the library which in the ships advertisement showed many shelves filled with numerous books.however Most shelves were empty and books that were available were in German.,so I advise everyone to bring their own reading material. The in house entertainers left a lot to be desired, but all guest artist were excellent. All the staff were very obliging and friendly. All in all I feel the standards of Celebrity have slipped since our last cruise. Will I cruise with them again? Not sure.

Jeremy Clarkson stops growing food in some fields as he makes more from eco handouts

The celebrity farm owner warned that people are being incentivised not to produce food, so more has to be imported from abroad

Jeremy Clarkson says he has stopped growing food in some of his fields because it is more profitable to take government eco handouts.

Since Brexit, farmers no longer receive subsidies for producing food, yet they can still get payments for environmental schemes under the Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI).

Clarkson, who has owned his Diddly Squat farm in Chipping Norton for 11 years , warned British farmers were being incentivised not to produce food, meaning more had to be imported from abroad.

Writing in the Sunday Times Magazine, he said: “I have signed up to the government’s eco-friendly grant scheme and will be planting things that aren’t food in three fields.

“They’re good for the soil and they’re good for my bank balance. But it means I’m not growing stuff people can eat .

“I know one chap who has taken 60 per cent of his farm out of food production and he’s not alone. So yippee. All that stored carbon and all of that fixed-in nitrogen.

“But what if you want some bread? You’ll have to get a loaf made from wheat that was grown abroad. And how’s that good for global warming?”

Under the SFI, farmers can receive money for turning their arable and horticultural fields into bee friendly wildflower meadows, grassland or planting species that can feed winter birds.

The scheme has proved so popular to struggling farmers that last month the government was forced to issue a crackdown, warning that growers could only take 25 per cent of their land out of direct food production for environmental projects.

The government said there was evidence of farmers taking large areas of their land away from food production, with the scheme “being used more than intended.”

Farming Minister Mark Spencer said the initiative: “was always intended to be implemented on smaller areas of land”.

He added: “Food production is the primary purpose of farming and we are taking action to clarify this principle.”

The government has received more than 15,000 applications and issued over 14,000 agreement offers and said the vast majority of land in the scheme continues to produce food “in a more sustainable, resilient way that’s good for both food production and the environment”.

Reliance on imports

In an interview with The Telegraph this week, Kaleb Cooper, Clarkson’s farm manager, warned there was too much reliance on cheap imports, and not enough support for growers.

He argued that if Britain continues to fail to produce sufficient food it could lead to internal conflict should there be another pandemic or global war.

“What happens? England’s at war with itself,” he said.

The government said it was committed to British farmers producing at least 60 per cent of the food eaten in the country.
