We Bike Amsterdam, Who are we?

We Bike Amsterdam is a group of enthusiastic and local guides, united by a passion for Amsterdam and cycling. In 2013 we started this collective with the purpose to show people the real city of Amsterdam from a local perspective. Meeting people from all over the world and sharing our knowledge about the city is what we love to do.

Locals here ride their bike every day and Amsterdam is considered to be the biking capital of the world. Therefore we believe the only way to really experience this city is from a cyclist ‘s perspective. So join us and hop on one of our bike tours to discover Amsterdam like a local!

What do we do?

We Bike Amsterdam started in 2013 with a bike tour of Amsterdam ‘s hidden gems. On this bike tour through the historic city center of Amsterdam, we focus on the hidden gems and secrets spots. Of course you get to visit historic landmarks and see important sights but we also take you to the backstreets of Amsterdam and ride off the beaten path to those tucked away courtyards and secret gardens. In 2016 we started our countryside bike tour. On this amazing ride through scenic landscapes of Holland you learn about water management and how the Dutch live below sea level. Visit picturesque villages, an old windmill and bike over dams and dikes.

With our bike tours in Amsterdam and the countryside we aim to reveal to you what remains unknown to others. We simply trust you on finding the Red Light District by yourselves and want to show you what this place really is about.

Amsterdam hidden gems

How do we do it?

Less sometimes is more! Less participants per group means more quality for those joining. That ‘s why we believe in small groups !

Keeping our groups small is super important for the feel and quality of our bike tours. We are Amsterdam ‘s smallest bike tour company and we are proud of that! Groups are never bigger and often smaller then 11 persons per group. This ensures high quality bike tours and a personal, safe and relaxed experience. Please note that our small group policy means there ‘s a limit to our availability as well so we recommend reservations.

Hop on and we bike the extra mile!

  • A standard guided bike tour that covers the city’s main attractions and lasts around 2-3 hours typically ranges from €25 to €35 per person.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is cycling in amsterdam hard.

Cycling in Amsterdam is generally not hard, and in fact, it’s one of the best ways to get around the city. Amsterdam is renowned for its cycling-friendly infrastructure and culture, making it a great place for both locals and tourists to explore on two wheels. However, there are a few considerations to keep in mind:

🚲 Bike Infrastructure: Amsterdam has an extensive network of dedicated bike lanes and paths. Most streets have clearly marked bike lanes, making it easy to navigate. Just be aware of the different types of bike lanes (one-way, two-way, and bike lanes that are separate from the road) and follow the traffic signs.

🚲 Traffic: While the city is generally bike-friendly, Amsterdam can be busy with cyclists, pedestrians, and other vehicles. Pay attention to traffic rules, be mindful of other road users, and watch out for trams and cars.

🚲 Lock Your Bike: Bike theft is relatively common in Amsterdam, so it’s essential to secure your bike properly with a good lock when not in use. Many bike tour operators provide secure parking for your rental bike during the tour.

🚲 Tourist Areas: Some popular tourist areas can get crowded, and it might be a bit more challenging to navigate through the crowds on a bike. In such areas, consider dismounting and walking your bike.

🚲 Obey Traffic Rules: Always obey traffic rules and signals, including stopping at red lights and yielding to pedestrians.

🚲 Use Hand Signals: Using hand signals to indicate your turns is a good practice and helps improve safety.

🚲 Renting a Bike: If you’re not comfortable bringing your own bike, consider renting one from a reputable rental shop. They can provide you with a well-maintained bike suitable for city cycling.

How much is it to ride a bike in Amsterdam?

Riding a bike in Amsterdam can be quite affordable, and the cost depends on whether you’re renting a bike or using a bike-sharing service. Here are some general guidelines for the costs associated with riding a bike in Amsterdam:

1. Bike Rental:

  • Rental shops: You can rent a bike from various rental shops throughout the city. Prices can vary, but on average, you can expect to pay around €10 to €15 per day for a standard city bike. Electric bikes and specialty bikes may cost more.
  • Rental duration: Some shops offer hourly rates as well. Hourly rates can range from €5 to €8 per hour. Many rental shops also offer discounts for longer rental periods, such as by the week.

2. Bike-Sharing Services:

  • Amsterdam has a bike-sharing program called “OV-fiets” operated by NS (Dutch Railways). This service is primarily designed for Dutch residents and requires a subscription, but it may be accessible to tourists with a public transport chip card.
  • There are also commercial bike-sharing services in Amsterdam like Donkey Republic, which typically charge by the hour. The cost can range from €9 to €15 for a full day.

3. Personal Bike:

  • If you have your own bike, the cost is minimal after the initial purchase. You’ll need to consider maintenance, which includes occasional repairs and the cost of a lock to prevent theft.

How long does it take to cycle around Vondelpark?

The time it takes to cycle around Vondelpark in Amsterdam can vary depending on your cycling speed, stops, and the route you choose within the park.

  • Leisurely Pace: If you’re taking a leisurely ride, enjoying the park’s sights and perhaps stopping occasionally, it might take around 15 to 30 minutes to complete a full loop around the park. This pace allows you to soak in the surroundings fully.
  • Moderate Pace: Cycling at a moderate pace without many stops, you can complete a loop in approximately 10 to 15 minutes. This is a comfortable pace for most cyclists.
  • Fast Pace: For experienced cyclists or those looking to complete a quick lap around Vondelpark for exercise, it can take as little as 5 to 10 minutes.

The 7 Best Bike Tours in Amsterdam

bike tours amsterdam tourist

Amsterdam breathes cycling - there’s more bikes than people here! Locals do everything by bike: commuting to work, to school, doing groceries, shopping, carrying christmas trees, dogs, children, friends and lovers. On two wheels is just the best way to discover the magic of Amsterdam. It’s fun, inspiring, and you’ll get a great overview of the city. And the bike infra in Amsterdam - with over 500 km of designated bike lanes - is kick ass. Also, apart from the occasional bridge, it’s completely flat. At first, biking in Amsterdam can be a bit overwhelming, so a guided bike tour is a great way to get into the groove. GetYourGuide offer one of the best, a 3-hour guided bike tour of central Amsterdam with a full refund if you’re not fully satisfied with the tour. Read on if you want to find out a bit more about the other best-known ones.

1) Mike’s Bike Tour

Mikes Bike Tour

Mike’s bike tours has been around, with over 20 years of experience discovering Amsterdam on two wheels. They are centrally located in an old warehouse, a monument dating back to when Amsterdam traded in the West Indies. Mike’s has several different tours, from city, mini city (short intro tour) to the countryside (where you will climb a 400 year old church) or go beer tasting, and eating pancakes at the Amsterdam wood. Their most popular is the much tried and tested City Bike Tour, a dazzling ride along many of the highlights that make Amsterdam so special. Mike’s bikes are colorful, sturdy and laid-back city bikes, so you will look cool (and not too touristy). Popular with young people, like backpackers and budget travellers.

Baja Bike Tours

Started by a Dutchman in Barcelona in the 90s, Baja Bikes is now the biggest bike tour and rental platform in the world, with over 150 cities to choose from. Obviously, Amsterdam is on that list, and if you have never been, their signature Highlight Tour is the popular choice. They recommend to do the bike tour early in your visit, this way you get a headstart, touching upon most highlights within 3 hours, also mixed up with some lesser known locations. Baja Bikes appeals to a more grown-up crowd, who want to explore the city in a fun, safe and secure way. But Baja does special tours for students and families with children too, as well as private tours upon request.

8 advantages of exploring Amsterdam by bike

  • Amsterdam is completely flat (apart from the occasional bridge over a canal)
  • Biking is an easy workout, no need to sweat, but you will still benefit from the exercise

  • You get further and see more things than on a walking tour

  • Amsterdam has 515 km of dedicated bike lanes, and really, it’s fine to cycle everywhere!

  • Cycling is the best way to get an overview of the city

  • You will feel what it’s like to live here

  • It’s a green and climate friendly way of seeing the city

  • Bicycle tours tend to be very affordable!

Some tips from a local

  • RELAX, it’s safe and you will be fine

  • Stay on the RIGHT, and never just stop in the middle of the bike path
  •
Pay attention at the white triangular ‘haaientanden’ (shark teeth) on the road to see who has the right of way
  •
Don’t ring your bell, unless some tourist blocks the bike path;-)

  • Make eye contact and use your arms/hands to signal where you want to go

  • Watch out for the tram tracks - don’t get your bike wheels in them or you’ll come a cropper

I am always amazed how everyone bikes around here, even in the rain!

So many bikes around - you need to pay attention... great bike lanes and so on, but if you are not used to it, quite easy to get in the way of cyclists...

What an amazing city! A dream for cyclists.

Best way to explore the city!

Agree about the tram tracks. Be VERY careful! If you need to cross them, do so at right angles, otherwise your wheel will get caught in the track and then it's all over. And wear a helmet. Most people in Amsterdam don't, maybe because it is not cool, but, well, I'd rather keep my head in one piece.

The advantages of a bike tour

Why do all those narrow canal houses in Amsterdam have a hoisting beam on top? How deep are the canals? And how was life in the Red Light District in the 17th century? Just a few questions that might come to mind when you’re biking through Amsterdam. The big advantage of a guided cycling tour is that you can get answers to all these questions. A bicycle tour is informative and entertaining, and since you’re with a guide, you’ll be biking extra safely through the city. Gear Up in Amsterdam

Your Amsterdam biking adventure begins at A-Bike Rijksmuseum, located under the Stromma Canal Cruises building. Here, you’ll meet your guide and fellow cyclists at 9:30 am or 2 pm (summer only), although please aim to arrive early to give yourself extra time to prep for your adventure ahead. Then, with the meet and greets wrapped up, your guide will delve into a brief introduction to your ride for the day—the classic Dutch grandma bicycle.

Known for their comfort and ease of use, these bikes are equipped with handbrakes and three gears, making them perfect for your 13-mile (21 km) journey. As you familiarize yourself with the bike, your guide will outline the exciting route and share essential biking tips, ensuring you're all set for a memorable ride through Dutch countryside.

Pedal Along Amstel River & Dutch Polder Landscape

Setting off from Amsterdam, your path winds along the historic Amstel River. Soak up the breathtaking views and a peaceful ambiance that contrasts the city's bustle you’ve only just left behind. Soon, you’ll be surrounded by the region’s idyllic polder landscapes, an extraordinary feat of Dutch engineering that reclaimed land from marshland. Admire the time-tested network of ditches, dikes, and lush greenery, and tune into your guide sharing stories about the river's significance in shaping Dutch history.

Stop for Windmills, Clogs, Cheese, and More

This adventure isn’t solely about biking, and one of the stops you’ll make along the way is at an authentic (and extremely picturesque) Dutch windmill. This particular windmill, the Riekermolen, dates back to 1636, and besides playing a crucial role in water management, it was also the inspiration behind many of artist Rembrandt’s sketches.

Along your biking journey, you'll also stop by a quintessential Dutch cheese farm and clog factory. Here, enjoy the company of a friendly farmer who'll demonstrate the age-old crafts of cheese making and clog carving. Don't miss the chance to sample some delicious Gouda and tuck into the quaint gift shop for unique souvenirs.

Bike under the Rijksmuseum & Bid Farewell

Your trip might be winding down, but there’s still one more bucket-list-worthy experience to tick off—pedaling under the Rijksmuseum—one of Amsterdam’s most iconic bike paths. We’ve saved this for last, so you’ll feel confident navigating the busy shortcut while also admiring grand archways and intricate detailing.

Then, before you know it, you'll find yourself back where your tour began. Take advantage of your final moments with your guide, asking for recommendations for a well-earned snack or drink before bidding farewell.

A Guide For Families Biking In Amsterdam: Rentals and Rides

A family of three bikes past windmills in the Netherlands.

If you’re looking for an adventure for families that will get everyone’s heart pumping and adrenaline flowing, try biking through Amsterdam! With stunning scenery and countless sights to see, it’s no wonder why so many people choose biking as their preferred mode of transportation in Amsterdam. But before you hit the road, it’s important to know all the tips and tricks that will keep you safe while still allowing you to have fun. As an ex-pat who has lived in Amsterdam for the last 15 years, there are a few things I’ve learned along the way when it comes to navigating the city’s biking culture with kids. So buckle up (or helmet up!) and get ready for a thrilling experience filled with culture, history, and excitement!

Biking Culture in the Netherlands

A bike resting against a bridge over a canal in Amsterdam.

Riding a bike in the Netherlands is like breathing or eating to the Dutch. It’s something automatic. They don’t think about it — they just do. It’s part of the rhythm of life. It’s normal to see a man biking along the cobblestones of the Prinsengracht to a meeting completely decked out in a bright blue suit. Or an older man carrying his wife side-saddle on his bike rack to the Albert Hijn. The Dutch will even effortlessly balance a carry-on suitcase to Central Station and catch a train to the airport! So if you’re looking for a typical and authentic Dutch experience while visiting the Netherlands with your kids, definitely consider biking!

Why Bike Around Amsterdam with Kids?

Bikes parked along a road in Amsterdam.

Are you tired of the same mundane family activities on vacation? Not only is biking around Amsterdam a typical Dutch activity, but it’s also an exhilarating way to explore the city from a new perspective. Plus, it’s a great exercise for both you and your kids! Imagine weaving through picturesque neighborhoods with vibrant pop-up shops and charming cafes buzzing by. You can even stop at one of the many parks dotted throughout your journey to have a picnic or stroll amongst nature. And let’s not forget about how much fun your children will have as they soak up every inch of this mesmerizing destination. From their tiny legs pedaling away to pointing out stunning architecture along the canal routes, there sure won’t be any dull moments during this bike ride!

Is Biking in Amsterdam Safe for Kids?

A family of three and their dog take a rest upon their bikes, while riding through the Dutch countryside, surrounded by tulips.

If you’re planning a trip to the Netherlands with kids, you may be wondering: is biking In Amsterdam safe for kids? The answer is an unequivocal yes, especially when you’re armed with the knowledge this guide provides. The ubiquity of the bike in daily life, along with the corresponding laws that support a biking-first lifestyle, means that biking in the Netherlands is safe.

Even in a city as big as Amsterdam. With its numerous bike rental services, stunningly picturesque routes, and easy-to-follow directions, exploring Amsterdam on two wheels has never been easier or more exhilarating for families. Many streets have segregated bike paths, so cyclists are totally protected from cars. Furthermore, the laws give all bikers the right of way, so cars are always looking out for them – legally, the car will be responsible if there’s an issue.

Best Dutch Bikes for Families

A mom sits on a bike, with a basket in front for her children in Amsterdam.

Wondering about the best Dutch bikes for families? Dutch bikes are a charming version of a beach cruiser with handlebars splayed out, a bell with a satisfying ding, and often an integrated light that is powered when the bike is in motion. Traditional Dutch bikes look like a relic from the 1940s. Many new models retain that traditional character.

Popular with young families are the Bakfiets, which look like a narrow wooden box has been attached to the front of the bike. You might find 3-4 children, including a baby going to the supermarket, park, or school. Helmets are not popular in the Netherlands, possibly because of their relative safety. However, I suggest always getting a helmet while renting a bike as a tourist.

The Vondelpark Bike Loop is a must-try for beginners, offering scenic views that will leave you breathless and wanting more. Families can rent bikes from the MacBike location at Leidseplein at Overtoom 45. Then, two blocks south, you’ll find Vondelpark and its wide bike paths. It’s car-free, so it’s a safe way to get used to the bike for the whole family. It’s also the Central Park of Amsterdam and worth a visit.

While in the Vondelpark, stop for tea or a sandwich at the Proeflokaal’t Blauwe Theehuis. It has a large round café with indoor and outdoor seating that kids will love! Pedaling down and back, you’ll see some of the most picturesque views that this city has to offer. And, there will be plenty of opportunities to stop at charming cafes or local shops to grab refreshments while taking in the surrounding beauty at a leisurely pace.

There is nothing more Dutch than stopping for a klein biertje (a small half pint) on a terrace along a canal. I would also recommend stopping for some bitterballen at Café Restaurant De Ysbreeker .   Plus, one of the most authentic bakeries in the city, Hartogg Volkoren , is along this route. Visit for the most delicious loaves of seeded sunflower bread!

Tips for Families Biking in Amsterdam and Beyond with Kids

A mother sits atop a bike with a front buggie, which holds her two young girls. All look at the camera with huge smiles.

Before families set off on their biking adventure in Amsterdam and beyond, there are a few tips to keep in mind first,

  • While biking is very safe in the Netherlands, most people are not out for recreational rides. The Dutch will be moving at speed to a destination. Stay in the parks until your whole family is able to control their bikes and bike at a normal pace for the bike lanes.
  • You must lock your bike. There are stacks of bikes everywhere, but they do get stolen. Don’t be lulled into thinking that everything is very safe for your rental bike, even though Amsterdam is a relatively safe city.
  • Also, there are many canals with working draw bridges that will hold up morning commutes. Expect delays.

Your authentic e-bike adventure in Amsterdam

Discover Amsterdam’s most iconic treasures on this e-bike tour of the city, with the added flexibility of bike rental!

Amsterdam isn’t called the “Venice of the North” for nothing – canals course through the Netherlands’ capital like veins, providing much of its cultural lifeblood. Your bicycle tour takes you along these historic waterways for your true introduction to Amsterdam!

With Dam’s canals come drawbridges and canal houses – let your guide bring you up to speed with the waterways’ fascinating features. You may be lucky enough to witness these historic drawbridges in action!

Arriving at Anne Frank’s house, park your e-bike for poignant reflection on the banks of the Prinsengracht canal. Discover the story of the young diarist who fled Nazi persecution, hiding in the rooms of the ‘Secret Annex’. A short ride away, occupying the outskirts of the stunning Vondelpark, is the Rijksmuseum, whose exquisite exterior is bound to stop you in your cycle tracks! This is the Netherlands’ national museum, honoring the diverse beauty of Dutch history and art.

Venturing into Vondelpark, soak up the serenity of the city’s urban oasis. As you glide along under the green canopy, your guide will reveal how the park requires a renovation every three decades due to its lowering ground levels. But you needn’t have that sinking feeling – Vondelpark is a stunning section of the city to explore, boasting cycle paths lined with beautiful trees alive with rejuvenating birdsong. From here, cycle to the smallest house in the city for your tour’s intriguing finale!

The spring classics, once a driver of tech innovation — or maybe better put a test lab for wacky or downright insane ideas — are no longer quite the showcase of interesting tech they once were. (Stick around, though, there’s good stuff to come, I promise.)

Bike tech has generally reached a point where comfort on the cobbles can co-exist with performance without drawbacks to speed, weight, or ride quality. More and more off the shelf bikes, especially aero models, can take on the cobbles without a problem. Deep section carbon rims are ubiquitous.

But while there is less specialized tech at the Belgian classics, some classics-only gear and good-old-fashioned tricks of the trade from seasoned mechanics still have a place here.

We took a look around the start line of the Tour of Flanders , the biggest day of bike racing of the year in Belgium, to find some of the interesting tech bits out on display, all shiny before heading straight into a muddy, rainy day on the cobbles.

Harry styles fans are mobbing his hometown — so officials are tapping teen tour guides.

Harry Styles fans are flocking to his UK hometown, hoping it’s “As It Was” when the 30-year-old star was growing up.

Over the past year, over 5,000 devotees — known as “Harries” — have visited Holmes Chapel, England, walking in One Direction to hit all the spots the singer has frequented.

Leaders of the quaint Cheshire village northwest of London have encouraged the rush of tourists by creating a map — that the local railway station ticket officers hand out for free — marking a 2-mile tour of the pop star’s favorite local haunts.

To inspire more tourism, local officials have announced plans to hire teenage tour guides to show adoring fans sights such as the bakery where Styles worked as a teen and a Chinese restaurant where he once brought Taylor Swift.

Harry Styles fans are flocking to his UK hometown, hoping it's "As It Was" when the 30-year-old star was growing up.

“We aim to start official tours of Harry’s Home Village on Saturday mornings in June and weekdays in July, August and September, and will be recruiting Harry Styles fans from 16 and over to act as local guides,” Peter Whiers, chairman of Holmes Chapel Partnership, confirmed to SWNS .

Over the past year, nearly 5,000 devotees — known as "Harries" — have visited Holmes Chapel, England, walking in One Direction to hit all the spots the singer has frequented.

Hopefuls will be chosen based on their genuine interest in the village, its history, and its links to Styles, and their excellent communication and storytelling skills.

The demand for tour guides is expected to be so great that the town is holding a half-day assessment session on April 20 to recruit up to 16 teen guides to begin the program.

The route guides Harries past the singer’s former home, his old school, Mandeville’s bakery — which has a life-sized placard of Styles from when he worked there on the weekends — and ends at the railway viaduct where he had his first kiss.

The brickwork at the base of the viaduct has become a monument to fans who have covered the area with messages and signatures — as the star did in the One Direction biopic “This is Us.”

Whiers said the Harry Styles Walking Map resulted in “an incredible year,” with businesses seizing the opportunity to cater to the influx of tourists. The town is hopeful the teen tour guides will spur another great year.

To inspire more tourism, local officials have announced plans to hire teenage tour guides to show adoring fans Styles sights.

The town also plans to publish an updated walking map showing where Holmes Chapel memorabilia, gifts, food, and drink can be purchased.

“Even the worst of the winter months has not stopped them from braving muddy banks and wet fields to pay homage at Harry’s Wall at the viaduct,” Whiers said about the fans.

“We now think it is time for Holmes Chapel to increase what we can offer to the young visitors and ensure they return home with a memorable experience of Harry’s village,” he added.

Results and Highlights from the 2024 Tour of Flanders

The world champion attacked on the Koppenberg and he was no match for the rest of the riders in the Ronde van Vlaanderen.

108th ronde van vlaanderen tour des flandres 2024 men's elite

Grey skies and consistent rain: it must be the Tour of Flanders.

The conditions were fitting for the the second Monument of the season—arguably the best of the bunch. The 2024 Ronde van Vlaanderen brought more thrills as we continue to chug through the best part of the cycling season.

Here’s how both the men’s and women’s races played out at the 2024 Tour of Flanders.

108th ronde van vlaanderen tour des flandres 2024 men's elite

Van der Poel captures record-tying third Flanders victory

Mathieu van der Poel won the 2024 Tour of Flanders, making his definitive move with 43 kilometers to go, and once he did, he left no doubt about it.

It was a vintage cycling scene up the brutal cobbled Koppenberg with 43km to go in the race. It was there that it was all blown apart. Van der Poel laid waste to the rest of the field up the treacherous climb, that gets as steep as 22% at its worst. While many of the riders had to dismount their bikes and try to run up the hill, van der Poel (have you heard he’s a cyclocross star?) stormed ahead. His advantage only grew after that, and it quickly became apparent that it was a race for second.

108th ronde van vlaanderen tour des flandres 2024 men's elite

The world champion and Alpecin-Deceuninck leader solo’d for the last hour of the race. It’s van der Poel’s third win at the Tour of Flanders, tying six others for the most wins in the Momument’s history.

Pedersen tried some interesting tactics to try and steal it from van der Poel. The Ghent-Wevelgem winner from a few weeks ago gapped the peloton with over 86km to go. He was able to establish an advantage over 25 seconds, but was eventually reeled back in before the Paterberg.

Luca Mozzato (Arkéa-B&B Hotels) was a surprise second place, out-sprinting a strong field of riders at the end to grab a podium spot, 1:02 behind van der Poel. Nils Politt (UAE Team Emirates) was third in the same time with Michael Matthews (Team Jayco-AlUla) relegated.

21st ronde van vlaanderen tour des flandres 2024 women's elite

9 years after her first Flanders victory, Longo Borghini wins for a record second time

While the men’s race lacked drama in the final hour, the women’s race packed a ton of action into the last 45 kilometers, once the riders got on the nasty Koppenberg. In the end, Elisa Longo Borghini sprinted to the win—with the help of a teammate—to win the Tour of Flanders for the second time in her career, nine years after winning the race in 2015.

Longo Borghini won a three rider sprint to the finish over her Lidl-Trek teammate Shirin van Anrooij and Kasia Niewiadoma (Canyon–SRAM). Van Anrooji provided the leadout for Longo Borghini, who seized the opportunity at the end and out-sprinted Niewiadoma for the victory.

Longo Borghini is the fifth rider to win the Tour of Flanders twice. No rider has ever won three. It was a 1-3 finish for the Lidl-Trek squad to cap off a big day for the team.

The Koppenberg proved to be a pivotal moment in the race. The unbelievably steep climb—made no easier by wet and rainy conditions—claimed many victims. It broke the race apart, with two-time defending champion Lotte Kopecky, as well as her SD Worx-Protime teammate Demi Vollering, among many others losing ground

Those two, along with van Anrooij, were able to make their way back to the lead group. Van Anrooij wasted no time and launched an attack off the front when the chasers rejoined the lead group. From there, she was able to gap the field.

21st ronde van vlaanderen tour des flandres 2024 women's elite

With 12km to go, Longo Borghini and Niewiadoma caught van Anrooij, and the chase group—including Kopecky, Vollering, and Marianne Vos—didn’t have the power to bridge the gap to the three leaders and it set up to be a three-rider race to the finish.

Longo Borghini handled the Koppenberg well, and rode arguably the most consistent race of the other contenders in the race. Surely, that helped her in the end, as she was able to catch van Anrooji for the run into the finish, and sprint to the win.

There was no three-peat for the world champion Kopecky, who won Flanders in 2022 and 2023. Going for a record third win in the classic, she spent much of the latter part of the race chasing down gaps. Vos took fourth, winning the sprint of the best of the rest on the day.

Koblenz, Germany

Koblenz is a traditional German city, founded more than 2,000 years ago. This former trading settlement rests on a massif of the Middle Rhine Highlands. Its cobblestone streets, wood-beamed houses adorned with flowers, ancient market square and medieval churches recall the fairy-tale Germany of old. At the “German Corner,” a massive equestrian statue of Prince William I observes the lovely riverside scene. The famed Teutonic Knights set up their first base here in 1216. The Romanesque Basilica of St. Castor, Koblenz’s oldest building, dates to 836.

Scenic Sailing: Middle Rhine

The Rhine River flows through one of Germany’s most scenic regions. As you sail its most picturesque stretch, the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Middle Rhine, you will pass vineyard-blanketed hills whose steep slopes require vintners to pick grapes by hand, keeping a centuries-old tradition alive. Splendid castles line the banks, all of which have stories to share, and the Lorelei Rock presides at a dramatic curve in the river. This infamous river maiden mesmerized sailors with her song and lured them to their demise at her feet.
