Updated May 2024.

Are you thinking about booking a sail Croatia with Travel Talk Tours?

When I boarded the MS Ribic to sail Croatia with Travel Talk Tours some years ago – it was the very first group tour I’ve ever been on (which also made me a bit nervous as a shy solo traveller )! But knowing I’d be sailing from Dubrovnik through the Dalmatian Islands for a week, my expectations were simple: soaking up the sun, exploring beautiful islands, swimming in the most stunning turquoise water, hopefully make new friends , and, what a lot of twenty-somethings go on this trip for, experience Croatia’s infamous nightlife. It pretty much ticked all of those boxes, with a few extra surprises a long the way!

So if you were thinking about jumping aboard to sail Croatia with Travel Talk Tours, here’s a review of my experience and recommendations:

A Hvar sunset on sail Croatia with Travel Talk Tours. A serene sunset scene with an orange sky on the horizon blending into a blue-grey hue. The glowing sun rests just above the horizon, casting a silhouette of boats on the water. The sunset is reflected on the water's surface.

The tour details

Tour Name: Dubrovnik to Split (2017) Tour company: Travel Talk Tours Start & finish destination/s: Dubrovnik to Split Places visited: Dubrovnik, Omis, Korcula, Hvar, Markarska, Split and  Mljet (new tour looks like its included Brac instead of Omis). Duration of tour:  8 Days Group size: We had a group of 18 people on our tour (max group size for this tour on the new boats is 35). Age restrictions:  18+ ( our group members ranged from 19 to 38 years old)

sail Croatia with Travel Talk Tours

  • Living on a boat for a week: Waking up to a new place each morning and not having to move my luggage was a treat
  • Waking up with a morning swim: Jumping off the boat in the morning into the most vibrant turquoise waters
  • Diverse group of new friends: Our tour had a diverse mix of people, which worked out really well. The ages of our group members ranged from 19- to 38-years-old, with members coming from as close as England to as far as India and Australia. In the end, we became a little family!
  • Something for *almost* every interest: Offers a perfect mix of culture, history, relaxing and nightlife. You can opt to participate in as much or as little as you’d like!
  • You’ll have a decent amount of free time: You can opt to explore on your own or with new friends or you can take part in the optional activities, such as walking the City Walls in Dubrovnik and ziplining in Omis.
  • Pirate party: I think most sail Croatia tours do a theme night – we dressed up as pirates and then later in the night headed out to the bars.

Lowlights & Laughs

Please note that the boats have been significantly upgraded since my tour, with much-improved bathrooms, which you can view on their website.

  • The showers: When I arrived I couldn’t find the shower (silly me) The shower essentially consists of a hose extending from the hand basin. If you’ve stayed on a boat before, this won’t come as a surprise. It’s likely you won’t have a decent shower all week, but fortunately, you’ll be surrounded by the ocean.
  • The toilets: From the day we boarded, we faced persistent issues with blocked toilets in the lower deck cabins. Unfortunately, we also encountered some rough weather, exacerbating the problem and causing our blocked toilets to overflow. As gross as it may have been, our group remained remarkably easygoing and laughed it off. We decided to close the lower deck cabin bathrooms and utilised those on the upper deck for the remainder of the week.
  • Storms: My tour was toward the end of the season (September), and we encountered some rough weather along the way. One night, there was a storm, and the rain flooded some of the downstairs cabins, including mine. At the start of our tour, we had to stay in Dubrovnik for an extra night due to severe weather conditions that posed safety concerns. Consequently, we missed out on visiting Mjiet. Changes to destinations can and will be made to prioritise everyone’s safety.

Tour leader

We accompanied by a tour leader for the week. Jojo was our leader, who was originally from New Zealand, but working with travel talk during the sail season. She was both fun and organised, ensuring our trip ran smoothly.

The tour price included a daily breakfast spread and three-course lunches, all prepared by the boat’s kitchen staff. However, dinners were not included in the price.

Accommodation

The accommodation on the MS Ribic (one of Travel Talk’s two Croatian sailboats) consisted of twin-share cabins, each equipped with a bunk-bed setup. Additionally, every cabin had its own small ensuite.

Please note that the boats look as though they’ve been upgrade significantly since my tour, which you can view on their website .

Overall experience of sail Croatia with Travel Talk Tours

Sail Croatia with Travel Talk tours was one the most memorable weeks of my travels so far – and this was back in 2017. I really enjoyed the balance of sightseeing, relaxing and partying on this tour – although, I think that this definitely depends on the group you have!

Before and after your sail Croatia with Travel Talk Tours (Dubrovnik to Split option)

Most of the things that I wanted to find out about my trip to Croatia had to do with the logistics of transport, so this will hopefully cover some of the questions you might have too.

Getting to Dubrovnik from Dubrovnik Airport

From Dubrovnik Airport, you can easily hire a taxi or you can jump on the shuttle bus that will take you to the main bus terminal near Old Town. I took the shuttle and it was a much more affordable option.

Getting to the tour meeting point in Dubrovnik

If you’re staying in Old Town, there are three options to get to Gruz Port, including taxi, bus or walking approximately 30 minutes. Personally, I caught a taxi as I didn’t want to drag my case and I was nervous about getting lost.

Pre-tour accommodation and activity recommendations in Dubrovnik

For my pre-tour accommodation, I stayed at King’s Landing Hostel in Old Town, Dubrovnik. For basic, clean rooms located in the heart of Old Town.

You will only have a short amount of time in Dubrovnik before your sailboat departs so I would highly recommend arriving in Dubrovnik a day or two early to fit in any activities you don’t want to miss. Some of the popular activities include the City Walls walk, Lokrum Island and the cable car up to Srd Hill.

Post-tour activity recommendations from Split

When I booked sail Croatia with Travel Talk Tours, the only other place I really wanted to visit that wasn’t on the itinerary was Plitvice Lakes. When we arrived in Split on the last day there was a bunch of us that organised rental cars and took a day trip to the Lakes.

I’m not sharing my accommodation for Split as a group of us stayed in an Airbnb for the night and I would not stay there again. However, there are plenty of other options on booking.com .

Tips and notes for shy solo travellers

  • While we had 18 people on our tour, there may be up to 35 people on the newer boats. If that might seem like an overwhelming number of people and you’re feeling a bit nervous about making friends , check out this guide tailored to making friends on group tours.
  • If you’re struggling to find an ice breaker, try one of these questions to start a conversation .
  • Keep an eye out for sales : Travel Talk Tours have some pretty generous sales on their tours, which is always good to keep an eye out for if you want to go on this sailing trip. You can look at their site here .
  • Extra fees: When I travelled with Travel Talk Tours they required a “local payment” for this tour, which means you pay a certain amount upfront or before you go and pay another amount (generally in GBP) to the tour leader when you arrive on the first day of your tour. I don’t believe this happens now, however, there may be some local port fees. Check if these are included in the price upon booking.
  • Currency: The local currency is KUNA, but most places will accept EURO.
  • ATM accessibility: There are ATM in most cities and towns, and your tour leader will be able to direct you to one.
  • Can be a pricy: Croatia, particularly Dubrovnik, is not at cheap as you might expect it to be.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: does travel talk tours charge a solo traveller supplement fee.

A: As of May 2024, the spots on this boat are charged per person. There are no additional fees for solo travellers. However, you will be roomed with a fellow solo traveller.

Q: What type of luggage should I bring?

A: Once you’re on the boat, your luggage isn’t so much of an issue because you won’t have to worry about carrying it around. I took a medium-sized suitcase but plenty of others took backpacks. Nevertheless, I’d recommend something easy to move around and not too large.

Fantastic Turkey trip

I done the 10 day Turkey land tour and had a fantastic time seeing lots of different sights in Turkey. Mustafa was an excellent tour guide, always so helpful and knowledgeable about the history of Turkey. I really enjoyed the optional hike to do part of the Lycian way which was great. Lots of great food, time to enjoy the sunshine and very comfortable hotel and coach. I would recommend this trip to anyone wanting to see Turkey on a tour. Thank you Mustafa for an incredible trip! :)

Best of Turkey by Land - AMAZING!

This tour was one of the best things that I've done during my travels and exceeded all expectations. The itinerary, accomodation, activities & locations visited have all been incredible. You get it all - the bustling city, history, culture, coastal beaches, & all the natural beauty that Turkey has to offer! The pace of the tour is without fault. You see so much in just 12 days but get plenty of time to relax as well. The tour guide Mustafa is extremely knowledgeable and he takes care in his work. He looks after his passengers well and as a solo female traveller this was very comforting. He has the best recommendations for shopping/food etc, & also has a great sense of humor which lifts the whole atmosphere. Overall an amazing experience and one you should book if you're considering it. I enjoyed it that much I've already booked another tour with Travel Talk Tours! 10/10

12 day Best of Turkey by Gulet

12 day Best of Turkey by Gulet. Had an amazing tour seeing different landscapes of Turkey. From the Aegean Sea of archeological sites of ancient times to the best time sailing the Mediterranean and lastly the picturesque views of Cappadocia. Mus was the best tour guide with insights of the country and its history. A highlight of the tour was definitely the hot air balloon ride, a bucket list moment and the food in Turkey!!! Definitely recommend for solo travellers and made the best of friends from all corners of the world.

Turkey by land

Dude, the 12 day Turkey by land was amazing! Our guide Mustafa was extremely knowledgeable and made this a trip to remember. The bus was very comfortable & our drivers were excellent. Do this trip & I guarantee you will have a blast. Peace, Love & may the force be with you!

Best of Turkey by Land Tour

This was my third tour with Travel Talk and I continue to be impressed. All the hotels and transportation were very comfortable, and Mustafa was an incredible guide! He is a knowledgeable guide and helped make the trip a fantastic one for everyone! The itinerary was great as you got to engage with so many things that make the country amazing. Türkiye is a beautiful country and if you’re thinking about visiting, you should!

12-days in Türkiye 🇹🇷

Our 12-day trip to Türkiye was an incredible journey through time, culture, and culinary delights. From the stunning architecture of Istanbul's Blue Mosque and the Topkapi Palace to the surreal landscapes of Cappadocia, every moment was filled with awe. The ancient ruins of Ephesus and the thermal pools of Pamukkale added to the historical richness of our adventure. Our guide, Mustafa, was a standout highlight. His extensive knowledge and passion for Türkiye’s history and culture brought each site to life, making our experience deeply enriching and engaging. His Organisation and attention to detail ensured we could see each site in the best possible conditions. This trip was an extraordinary blend of history, architecture, food, and culture, made perfect by the expertise of Mustafa and the excellent services of Travel Talk. Highly recommended!

Turkey 2024

Türkiye is a treasure trove of wonders! Imagine walking through history in Istanbul, where you can explore the grandeur of Hagia Sophia and the breathtaking Blue Mosque. Next, take a reflective visit to ANZAC Cove in Gallipoli, where the poignant stories of World War I come to life. The highlight of my trip to Türkiye, was a hot air balloon ride over Cappadocia. As you soar above the fairy chimneys and unique rock formations at sunrise, you'll feel like you're in a dream. With its rich history, stunning landscapes, and warm hospitality, Türkiye is an unforgettable destination. I would Iike to thank our wonderful bus driver's, Tarik and Ahmet, we were always welcomed on board with a smile and were made very comfortable during our journey. A huge thank you to our tour guide, Mustafa, he continually went above and beyond to ensure we had a wonderful, stress-free time that was filled with forever memories. Thank you Travel Talk and your wonderful team.

Amazing Türkiye 🇹🇷

What a great taste of Türkiye we have had! The land and sea experience in the circular loop has given us a vast range of amazing experiences over constantly changing landscapes drenched in history. Thanks to our amazing guide Mustafa I have learnt soooo much!

10 day tour to Turkey with gulet

Really enjoyed my 10 day tour to Turkey with our amazing guide Mustafa. He was a fabulous guide, very knowledgeable and everything ran so smoothly. The 3 days on the gulet boat was the highlight. Food on the boat was excellent, and no AC wasn’t a problem due to the sea breeze. The only negatives were the long times spent on the bus, buffets dinners at the hotels weren’t great, and I had a short bout of food poisoning.

Best of Turkey by Land

Had such a great time on this tour. I’ve done a couple of tours previously with Travel Talk and they are always well organised. Mustafa, our guide was great, always helpful and would make sure we were visiting at the best times to avoid the crowds. Tour was a mixture of history/ culture, beach days and natural wonders so something to suit all. Hot air ballooning over Cappadocia and the Turkish Night were such good fun. Definitely recommend!!

All about Turkey tour

Just got back from our all about Turkey tour and loved it. Our tour guides Mustafa and Erdem were amazing very knowledgeable friendly and went above and beyond to make our tour perfect. Tour covered beautiful places scenery and our highlight was definitely hot air ballooning over Cappadocia wow such a magical place. Highly recommend Turkey as a travel destination.

We did a ten days land tour in Turkey…

We did a ten days land tour in Turkey with Travel Talk tour. Our guide was Mustafa and he was excellent in every aspects. We enjoyed the tour and the only thing I didn’t give a 5* because there were too many people on the tour 40 and some of the hotel foods weren’t good.

Travel Talk Turkey June 2024

Great group and tour guide (Mustafa is a legend!) We covered a lot of ground and saw some of the most amazing sights. Mus is also a very informative and organised guide, educating the group about Turkey and keeping the tour running smoothly. My only major feedback is that it would be great if Travel Talk could explicitly point out extra costs in terms of upgrades and sightseeing/activities during the booking stage so that guests can budget properly and be more prepared with necessary cash out, etc. Also, some hotels are isolated so it made it difficult to get into town for amenities during free time. Other than that, trip of a lifetime - I have loved every minute!

12 day essential Turkey

12 day turkey - Excellent, excellent, Excellent. There is so much to see and do in Turkey and this trip has it all. Some bus days are long but it’s the price you pay if you want to take in the sights of this varied country. Whether you are interested in ancient history or paragliding over modern tourist resorts this trip has something for you, our guide Mustafa was not only informative but amusing and helpful throughout. A great choice for a perfect holiday

Relax & Safe with TravelTalkTour

We traveled all over the world on our own most of the times, we decided to use a Tour Company this time! TravelTalk is the BEST! We are on last days of our 10 Days Turkey Land Tour. They picked us from the airport, the hotels, the bus and the drivers, the restaurants, and specially our guide Mustafa is wonderful. He always so helpful, very informative, super humorous. We feel relax and safe on this whole Turkey trip, get to see beautiful places and experiencing many adventurous activities. I will recommend Travel Talk Tour to our friends when we get back home.

10-day Turkey Amazing Land Tour

Overall a good tour (10 day Turkey land tour) and Mustafa was an amazing tour guide with helpful tips and hints along the way. July was quite hot, so it was uncomfortable at times but Mustafa went out of his way to make sure there were plan Bs to accommodate the hot weather and ensure the group enjoyed the sights.

Exceeded Expectations

My partner and I did the 12 day Turkey by land tour and it was incredible! It exceeded our expectations. Our guide Mustafa was amazing, he has so much knowledge and took us to sites at the best times to avoid the crowds where possible. He made sure we were well looked after and gave us all the information we needed each day. Most of the hotels were brand new and all of them had swimming pools which was great after a hot day exploring. The tour was awesome, we went to so many different places, ancient ruins, beaches and so many activities to choose from too. We did a lot of travelling by bus but it was nice to see so much of the countryside. Would highly recommend this tour to anyone. It was a great experience exploring Turkey 😊

travel talk, 12 days turkey by gulet

I completed the 12 day TurkishTour by Gulet with Travel Talk. The tour overall was a fantastic experience. The tour guide Mustafa was very informative, entertaining and considerate guide. The hotels during the stay were clean and comfortable. The optional activities were great experiences. The food sometimes got repetitive at the hotels as they were all buffet. It would have been nice to go into town some nights as a group and eat at a local restaurant. The gulet experience was amazing. The crew on board went above and beyond in their service. Would recommend to anyone wanting to experience the Turkey culture.

Beware - unreasonable booking conditions - Do not book with this company! They cancelled our booking for no reason after confirming it and didn’t even offer a refund (just transfer to another tour) until I complained. Finally got refund 1.5 weeks later after some chasing. Their booking conditions do not comply with ABTA code of conduct and guidance as they can cancel for any reason even after full balance is due. This is also in direct contradiction to their website which says departures are guaranteed. Company has still not responded to my complaint almost 3 weeks ago.

With their wealth of experience, they’re adept at arranging once-in-a-lifetime experiences for all kinds of travellers, explorers and globetrotters.

I have been lucky enough to experience two of their Travel Talk Tours this year, one to Egypt and one to Turkey. Both incredible experiences and memories were made that will never be forgotten!

7 Reasons Why You Should Pick Travel Talk Tours For Your Next Holiday, two women and two men having fun and laughing with mountains in background

In this post, I will go through the reasons why taking a Travel Talk Tour is a great option for any type of traveller.

While there are already plenty of glowing Travel Talk Tour reviews, I decided to throw in my two cents based on the Travel Talk holidays I’ve been lucky enough to experience.

So this is the only Travel Talk Tours review you need to read!

🧳 MUST-HAVE: Before you head out on your trip, make sure you have travel insurance. I recommend either SafetyWing or World Nomads .

Table of Contents

7 Reasons why you should Consider a Travel Talk Tour for your Next Holiday

1. affordability.

One of the key things I love about Travel Talk is the affordability of their tours. If you compare one of their tours to that of their competitors you will notice a huge difference in price.

They always come out on top when it comes to price, which is so important for travellers these days. You really do get the most for your money.

Why is Travel Talk so cheap? Who owns Travel Talk and why are they so generous? Is Travel Talk Tours legit, considering the low cost?

I can tell you that it certainly is legitimate … and I’m not about to complain about the price!

2. There’s No Age Limit

There’s something brilliant about the Travel Talk Tours age range – there isn’t one.

Other tour companies such as Contiki are organised for a specific (younger) demographic. But Travel Talk Tours has no such restriction.

Although I’m young myself, I find other tours discouraging when they have an age limit attached. Fortunately, there’s no Contiki age limit stopping anyone from taking a Travel Talk Tour!

I just think to myself when I’m older and looking for tours that it must be discouraging when tours say you’re too old to join in.

But as I said, there’s not age limitation here, and the number of happy Travel Talk reviews from older holidaymakers is proof that you’re only as old as you feel!

👡 PACKING TIP: Looking for the best shoes for travelling? I highly recommend getting a pair of Chaco’s – They are my favourite!

Read some Travel Talk tour reviews to discover why you should take one today, tour guide kneeling down and writing on sand with a small rock inside ring of onlookers wearing sandals

3. Knowledgeable Guide

On both tours that I have been on, the guides were incredibly knowledgeable and this is the most important part of any tour!

In my opinion, travelling is all about learning so the number one thing you should look for in a tour is how much you will learn and experience.

Having a fantastic guide who knows nearly everything about the country really does make a huge difference on how your tour goes.

The quality of the guides is something that is talked about frequently in the Travel Talk Tours reviews!

🚲 Check out their tours here

4. Fun Experiences

I promise you will have the most fun experiences on these tours. The guides always have tricks up their sleeves. Plus, being on a bus with a group of people is bound to end up fun anyhow.

You are bound to make some lifelong memories while on your tours with Travel Talk.

5. The Optional Activities

On every tour, there are optional activities but I noticed that on each Travel Talk tour they are not to be missed, especially in comparison to that of others!

They offer once-in-a-lifetime experiences such as ballooning over Cappadocia to cruising down the Nile on a felucca.

There are lots of activities that they offer as an extra but to be honest, you won’t want to miss any of them!

📸 PRO TIP: My go-to camera for all my travels is the Sony A7iii – I highly recommend it!

6. They Go to Some Great Locations

Travel Talk has tours all over the world from Europe, the Middle East and South-East Asia.

They don’t only cover countries but some fantastic events such as Anzac Day (not to be missed for Kiwis and Aussies!), Oktoberfest and La Tomatina.

They also have sail tours such as the Travel Talk Sail Croatia and Sail Greece options.

I can highly recommend the Middle-East tours. The Travel Talk Egypt reviews were so good that I did the Travel Talk Egypt tour, and I also took the 10-day Turkey Travel Talk Anzac tour.

It’s a great way to see countries you may be too nervous to travel to on your own.

Here are some other highlights of the Travel Talk Tours destinations:

  • Travel Talk Morocco – Camel trekking in the Sahara or windsurfing in Essaouira.
  • Travel Talk Croatia – Sailing in the sunset and wine-tasting in walled cities.
  • Travel Talk Iceland – Stargazing at the Northern Lights and floating in geothermal baths.
  • Travel Talk Greece – The blue domes of Santorini or some island-hopping from beach to beach.
  • Travel Talk Jordan – A jeep safari through Wadi Rum Desert and the stone walls of ancient Petra.

With all these amazing locations, my one complaint as a Kiwi is that they don’t [yet] have any Travel Talk NZ tours available!

Although I am a huge advocate for travelling solo, I also really liked the safety net that was provided by doing tours through this country. Which brings me on to my next point.

7. It’s Easy

Taking a tour is the easiest kind of travelling you can do.

The guides organise everything, you feel safe and you literally don’t have to lift a finger which is a main attraction for people to take tours in the first place.

Especially to countries you may not feel comfortable with organising travels on your own or travelling solo.

If you are looking for a reputable tour company to spend your next holiday with I can highly recommend Travel Talk.

My two tours with Travel Talk were sponsored – however that doesn’t affect my opinion on the tour and I can say from the bottom of my heart I would take another tour with them in a heartbeat!

📦 PACKING TIP: Don’t leave home without a solar powered battery pack so you can keep your devices connected at all times.

Perfect reasons that make a Tour group the best. I often do self guided walking tours not knowing which is the best. These kind of pointers help.

Cool post Anita, I’m all for taking tours, however have sometimes found them limiting, especially if you come across something you want to spend more time at, on or in. But…. if you get an awesome guide, you often find yourself in places only the locals know. Your photos are incredible by the way.

I normally travel solo or with just a friend and have been to both Egypt & Turkey without using any agency or group tour. From time to time however I do travel with a group and total strangers to some places so I can understand and do agree that these kind of trips can be fun too! To me though, the deal breaker is having knowledgeable guides travelling with you – definitely one of the biggest advantages of travelling with a tour company as the cost of having guides when you travel on your own can be rather expensive.

Always good to hear about great travel tour companies like these guys. I haven’t actually ever done any group tours, I’ve only ever done self-guided so would love to join one. Having fun experiences is super important! How did you find the group sizes?

Its nice to know they have affordable tours with optional activities. Ill have to check them out the next time were in the area!

Excellent criteria for selecting the best tour group! Age is important to me too because I often have my children with me. Thanks for sharing the information on Travel Talk Tours – it sounds like a wonderful experience.

As I’ve gotten older, I really do love organized tours! I love how there’s no age limit for this one. Thanks for sharing, this is the first time I’ve heard of Travel Talk!

My favorite point is that there is no age limit! That’s so awesome. I feel like a lot of tour companies nowadays only cater to young travelers like 17-30. But travel is for everyone and should not be limited!

Am definitely going to be checking out Travel Talk tours, now that am heading out to UK for my post grad. The reason for opting a tour, is the guide, and travel talks seem to deliver on that bang on.

I love your comment on age. I started to backpack at 42 and felt welcome. I always thought , what would these young backpackers do 30 years from now? I guess everyone will age. Its refreshing to see perspective like yours.

Im interested in a tour of Turkey. I want to take my grandson who will be 17 years old

Balkan Adventure

15 days | explore the heart of eastern europe, from budapest to dubrovnik.

Intrepid travellers in Fisherman's Bastion - Budapest

Welcome to the Balkans, where the east meets the west and the new merges seamlessly with the old. Over the centuries, people have travelled to Eastern Europe for its fertile soil, natural resources and healing waters. This land boasts rich tradition, layered cultures and mouth-watering cuisines. With historic attractions in Budapest, thriving nightlife in Belgrade, a 15th-century Old Town in Sarajevo, Durmitor National Park in Montenegro and the medieval walls of Dubrovnik, you have plenty to discover. Hike through mountains, drive through ever-changing scenery and hit up the local bars after feasting on regional favourites.

Trip overview

  • Cross the Chain Bridge in Budapest – known as the Pearl of the Danube – and take the funicular up to Buda Castle for beautiful views over Pest.
  • Discover the rich biodiversity of Kopacki Rit Nature Park on a guided tour and explore the vast landscapes of Durmitor National Park with a guided hike.
  • Wander through Belgrade’s Bohemian quarter and grand 19th-century boulevards before launching into a spot of nightlife. Then, take a daytrip to the artists’ haven of Zemun.
  • Watch Mostar's famous bridge divers hurl themselves from the stones of a bridge that has spanned the river for centuries and visit Tito's bunker – one of the best-kept secrets in former Yugoslavia.
  • See the sights on a guided walking tour of Sarajevo and learn about its recent history as a city under siege.
  • Summer temperatures can exceed 40°C in many visited regions, requiring sun protection, layered clothing for heat, and ample hydration.
  • Hotels in Europe often have single beds that can be pushed together, and air conditioning is not guaranteed.
  • If you have more time to explore the region, you may want to check out our trip 'Vienna to Dubrovnik' (trip code AMSNC). Most departure dates are designed to create these perfect combos.
  • There are some long walks and short hikes on this trip, so a reasonable level of fitness is recommended. Please read the day-to-day itinerary carefully to find out more details on each day's activities. Activities can be opted out of if you want to refrain from participating.
  • Pack lightly for this trip as you'll need to carry your own bag, aiming to keep it under 15 kg (33 lb). Opt for a backpack or a shoulder bag for convenience, ensuring it has straps suitable for cobbled streets and stairs, and bring a bag for essentials on day trips.

View the itinerary for departures between 01 January 2024 - 31 December 2024

Szia! Welcome to Hungary. You'll meet your leader and other members of your group this evening for a welcome meeting at 6 pm. If you arrive early, perhaps take a stroll along the Danube River to get a feel for Budapest – the capital city with a contrast of old and new architecture. After the meeting, you might like to head out with your leader for an optional group dinner to get straight into the many local culinary delights, like the hortobagyi crepe (a stew and sour cream crepe) and matrai borzaska (deep fried pork and potato).

There are no meals included on this day.

It’s very important that you attend the welcome meeting as we will be collecting insurance details and next of kin information at this time. If you are going to be late, please let your travel agent or hotel reception know. Ask reception or look for a note in the lobby for more information on where the meeting will take place.

Today is a full free day to explore Budapest. Admire intricate carvings on buildings, cross the Chain Bridge to explore the Castle District or meander through winding streets, snacking on local delicacies. Budapest is a great city to enjoy from the water, so maybe take a boat trip along the river or catch a funicular up to the castle for spectacular views of the Parliament Building. Hiring a bicycle is another great way to move between the sights. Perhaps round off your day with a drink in the party district, where you’ll find plenty of ruin pubs, bars and nightclubs to choose from.

Head for Kopacki Rit today – a nature park in eastern Croatia, home to the white-tailed eagle. Since the park is made up of many different waterways, like lakes and canals, we’ll take you on a guided tour of the area after you drop your belongings at your family-run accommodation. In the evening join your group for homemade dinner on the property, where you’ll be treated to live music by local traditional singers.

Your travel time today will be approximately 3 hours.

Get off the tourist track today by heading to Novi Sad – the second largest city in Serbia. The afternoon is yours to explore as you wish – maybe visit the Petrovaradin Fortress, which was constructed in the 17th century and used to protect the city during the Napoleonic Wars. Or you can walk around Liberty Square and take in the Neo-Renaissance architecture, perhaps finishing the day off at a carda tavern (a fish restaurant along the Danube River).

  • Osijek - Day Trip to Kopački Rit Nature Park, Belje Winery and Etno-Village Karanac (including lunch) - EUR100
  • Osijek - Museum of Slavonia - EUR3
  • Osijek - Archaeological Museum - EUR2
  • Osijek - Bike Hire - EUR10

Your travel time today will be approximately 2.5 hours.

After breakfast, begin your journey to Belgrade. Known as the White City, Belgrade is one of the oldest cities in Europe. Sitting at the confluence of two major rivers – Sava and Danube – it’s an important intersection between Eastern and Western Europe. Here, you’ll experience a mix of progressive flamboyance and conservative customs. Enjoy a guided tour of the city’s wide boulevards and squares and the green heart of Kalemegdan Park. The park is home to Kalemegdan Fortress, which has overlooked the Danube River for centuries. Tonight, perhaps head down to Skadarska Street in the bohemian quarter of Skadarlija to sample some authentic local food and enjoy the lively atmosphere in a place where Orthodox churches vie for space next to nightclubs.

  • Vukovar - Orientation Walk & Guided Hospital Visit
  • Ilok - Winery Visit & Wine Tasting
  • Novi Sad - Petrovaradin Fortress - Free
  • Novi Sad - Museum of Vojvodina - RSD200
  • Novi Sad - City Museum - RSD500
  • Novi Sad - Synagogue - Free

Your travel time today will be approximately 1 hour.

Today, make your way to the neighbourhood of Zemun. This Old Town favourite has a rich history and is now known as the bohemian part of town, home to many of the city’s artists and writers. As Zemun used to be an independent town – only joining Belgrade in 1934 – the small village atmosphere still stands, transporting you to the past. After walking the town with your leader, perhaps head to a market and explore the local wares. Stroll along the river promenade and stop for an optional lunch in one of the riverside restaurants serving fresh fish. Head back to Belgrade’s centre in the late afternoon, where you have free time to visit the imposing Hram Svetog Save (St Sava Church) or learn about the life of Serbia’s greatest inventor at the Nikola Tesla Museum. The city’s nightlife has become legendary throughout Europe, with several hundred floating bars, restaurants and nightclubs lining the Danube and Sava rivers – so you’ll find the perfect way to spend your evening.

  • Belgrade - City Tour with Local Guide

Travel by bus through the beautiful countryside to Sarajevo this morning. Sarajevo is Bosnia and Herzegovina's small but vibrant capital. Twenty years after the end of a devastating war, Sarajevo is slowly asserting itself as one of Europe's most exciting destinations. The city often draws comparisons with Istanbul as a city that mixes east and west – dotted with minarets, mosques, bazaars and the aroma of coffee. When you arrive, take a guided tour for an insight into the history and culture of the city. Sarajevo is one of the few cities in the world that features an Orthodox church, a Catholic church and a mosque all within close proximity. Tonight, perhaps sample the local specialty of bosanski cevapi (grilled minced meat mixed with mild spices) in Bascarsija, Sarajevo's old bazaar.

  • Belgrade - Military Museum - RSD350
  • Belgrade - Ethnographic Museum - RSD300
  • Belgrade - Sveti Sava Church - Free

  • Belgrade - Museum of Contemporary Art - Free
  • Belgrade - Nikola Tesla Museum - RSD800
  • Belgrade - Museum of Yugoslav History - RSD400
  • Belgrade - House of Flowers - RSD400

Your travel time today will be approximately 7 hours.

Today head out of Sarajevo for a daytrip to Mostar, which sits in the valley in the high mountains of Herzegovina. Thanks to the Neretva river, Mostar was able to develop into a city in a barren landscape. The city was the most heavily bombed settlement in Bosnia during the war, but it has since been rebuilt and is now a UNESCO World Heritage site. Head to the famous Stari Most Bridge, first built by the Ottomans in 1565 by architect Mimar Hajrudin – who succeeded with the impossible mission of crossing the Neretva River with a single span stone bridge. If you’re lucky, you’ll see the famous bridge divers hurl themselves into the icy waters below. Return to Sarajevo in the afternoon, stopping at Konjic on the way – where you’ll discover one of the best-kept secrets in former Yugoslavia – Tito's nuclear bunker. Go back in time on a guided tour of the bunker and learn about Yugoslav history and how life used to be in the not-so-distant past.

  • Sarajevo - City Tour with Local Guide

Enjoy a free day in and around Sarajevo. Maybe take an optional daytrip to the thermal springs and green parks of Ilidza – the source of the Bosna River. Or discover local history with a visit to the History Museum and the Sarajevo War Tunnels (dug underneath the airport runway and used to smuggle provisions into the city during its siege). You can also learn about the tragedies faced by the city's Jewish population at the Jewish Museum or get cultural with a stroll through the Art Gallery of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Pivnica HS brewery and restaurant is a good place to sample local award-winning beer and grab some dinner.

  • Mostar - Day Trip
  • Konjic - Armijska Ratna Komanda ARK D-0 (Tito’s Bunker) tour
  • Mostar - Koski Mehmed Pasa Mosque & Minaret - BAM15
  • Mostar - War Photo Exhibition - BAM6
  • Mostar - Old Bridge Museum - EUR5

Today, you’ll ride in a private transfer through the countryside to Montenegro. Although it’s a long drive, there will be plenty of stops along the way. You might park at the bridge over Piva canyon, at the top of Kruska Mountain or at Saddle Peak viewpoint – wherever you stop, you’ll find great photo opportunities and a chance to stretch your legs. When you arrive at Durmitor National Park – a UNESCO World Heritage site that was formed by glaciers – take a hike through the lesser-explored wilderness along the shores of Black Lake and keep an eye out for some of the 163 species of bird or 50 species of mammal that roam this region. Finish your day in the nearby town of Zabljak, where you’ll spend the night.

  • Sarajevo - Svrzo's House - BAM3
  • Sarajevo - National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina - BAM8
  • Sarajevo - Gallery 11/07/95 - Free
  • Sarajevo - City Hall & Old National Library - BAM10
  • Sarajevo - Jewish Museum - BAM3

  • Sarajevo - Despica House - BAM3
  • Sarajevo - Brusa Bezistan - BAM3
  • Sarajevo - Sarajevo Museum - BAM10
  • Sarajevo - War Tunnel - BAM10

Your travel time today will be approximately 8 hours.

Enjoy a free day today to unwind in nature. Since Durmitor National Park is so vast, there are plenty of trails for an optional guided hike. Feel free to choose one that caters to the group’s personal tastes and fitness levels – they'll expertly mix and match the trails to create a half day of hiking that everyone enjoys. One thing is certain – lakes, pine forests and alpine air are guaranteed for any trail combination. You can also choose to see the park from behind handlebars by hiring a bike and riding into town and on the trails, or by walking to and renting a boat at Black Lake.

  • Durmitor National Park

Today, drive to Kotor – this 5th-century UNESCO World Heritage site is set on a secluded bay, with towering peaks surrounding a coastline dotted with waterside towns. When you arrive, maybe head out to see the 12th-century Cathedral of St Tryphun, the South Gates of Kotor (the Gurdich Gate) and the Armoury Square (Trg od oruzija). You might like to get lost in the alleyways, check out the boutiques and cafes or climb the hills behind the city to visit Kotor's ruined fortification walls. Take an optional hike up the stone steps, past churches, gates and bastions to the Fortress of Sveti Ivan – the top rewards you with views across the town and the Bay of Kotor.

Your travel time today is approximately 3 hours.

You can take an optional daytrip out of Kotor today. Maybe take a cruise on Kotor Fjord, visiting the twin islands of Our Lady of the Rocks and Sveti Dordje (St George), with its church in the middle of the bay. Legend has it that sailors once spotted an image of the Virgin Mary on a rock here and each time they completed a successful voyage, they added another rock as an offering. Eventually, so many were added that an island emerged, and the church was built on top of it. Alternatively, consider a trip to Budva. With its busy beaches, charming Old Town, busy restaurants and bars, Budva is like Montenegro's little version of Miami. For more history, head up to Montenegro's former capital Cetinje – now a laidback village with grand mansions that were once used as embassies. Enjoy a final night out in Kotor and maybe catch some live music that keeps the cobbled streets thriving.

  • Kotor - Cruise on Kotor Fjord - EUR40
  • Kotor - Maritime Museum - EUR5
  • Kotor - St. Tryphon’s Cathedral - EUR4
  • Kotor - Fortress - EUR3

Depart Montenegro this morning and travel along the beautiful southern coast of Croatia to Dubrovnik. Dubrovnik's walled Old Town is often referred to as the pearl of the Adriatic and it's now famed for its role in ‘Game of Thrones’. When you arrive, walk along the high city walls with your leader, enjoying ocean views. Visit Big Onofrio's Fountain – built by the European architect Onofrio Della Cava in the 15th century to supply water to the city. After, maybe check out the 13th-century Franciscan monastery or the Sponza and Rector's Palaces, the only Renaissance buildings in the city to survive a devastating earthquake and fire in 1667. As it is the last night of your trip, maybe enjoy one last meal with the group and toast to your adventures.

  • Dubrovnik - Dubrovnik Card (1 day local transport & entry to sites)

Today, your adventure comes to an end. There are no activities planned and you can depart at any time. There's lots to see and do here in Dubrovnik, so if you’d like to stay longer, just speak to your booking agent.

  1. Has anyone ever gone with Travel Talk tours?

13 years ago. Went with Travel talk twice. Greek islands were absolutely horrible. 45 of us joined the tour, 2 days later 46 of us walked off. Did get a full refund though. Although we did go with Travel Talk Egypt after that and had an amazing time and had awesome accommodation and service.

I recently got back from Sail Croatia with Travel Talk and would not recomend it at all - travel guide is not actually a travel guide or a local and tells very little about the history of Croatia it's just one big booze up and the rooms are not great - I booked a twin and got put in a quad room with strangers so although they are cheap - cheap is not always the best option.
