We will be arriving in Interlaken by train at 11:45 on 02.06.07.
Are the following plans in gettng to Murren the best available?
1. Take train from Interlaken (OST) to Lauterbrunnen (Hourly / 20 min).
3. Take panoramic train from Grutschalp to Murren.
1. Take Train from Interlaken (OST) to Stechelberg, if one exists?2. Take cable car from Stechelberg to Murren.
Or, is there another more desirable route? We are interested in taking the most efficient route from a time and change standpoint.
Also, if you know of any sites that have schedules for the routes mentioned, or recommended, they would be much appreciated.
Thanks, in advance, for any information you can provide. This is our first experience in the Swiss Alps and we're looking forward to it with great anticipation.

Hi sanray19,
You can get the exact schedule at the Swiss rail site, www.rail.ch. Just use "interlaken Ost" as your departure and "Muerren" for your destination.
Thanks swanday!
I found the exact schedule just as you said! That's a lot easier and takes the worry out of how to get there. Your help is appreciated very much. Have a great day and weekend.
Hey, So glad you enjoy using it. The Swiss make it so easy to get around!! Have a blast!

Recommend the Ost to Lauterbrunnen to Grutchalp to Murren choice. If you have luggage the post bus from Lauterbrunnen to the Stechelberg lift station is not as easy to navigate.

We will not be staying in Interlaken. Our hotels are split between days in Lauterbrunnen and then Murren .
I understand that we have the option to take gondolas and/or cogwheels from Lauterbrunne to Murren. Is there any other option?
For gondolas, is one gondola big enough to carry 2 adults, 1 child and 3 suitcases?

The route from Lauterbrunnen to Mürren that will drop you off at the south end of the village will be a little bit more difficult to maneuver with multiple pieces of luggage. From Lauterbrunnen you will get on the bus that will take you to the Stechelberg Schilthornbahn station. You will then take a large cable car up to Gimmelwald and then transfer to another large cable car which will take you to Mürren.
If you didn't want to deal with the luggage, you could consider having your bags shipped to Lauterbrunnen or Mürren (whichever your first destination will be) from the airport or wherever you will be coming from. Below is a link with information about the SBB luggage services, if you're interested.
https://www.sbb.ch/en/station-services/services/luggage-and-flight-luggage/luggage.html
Also, Lauterbrunnen and Mürren are so close. Most people just choose one place for their hotel stay so they don't have to worry about packing up and moving to a new hotel mid-stay. Something to consider.
You guys are right ...I should not have booked hotels in the two locations. Initially, I wanted the change of scenery but now as we get closer to the travel date, I realize that we have too much luggage.
I will check out the SBB luggage service as that sounds like it could benefit us. Do you know if it's reliable?

You don't have to worry about luggage to much if you get wheeled suitcases, and give your child its own (small) one. That way you have only one suitcase per person.
Stations have elevators and or ramps, so you can just pull the suitcase behind you when walking from one train to the next. Most trains now even have level boarding.
When my grandchildren were about 3 they had their own suitcases called a "trunki". They pulled them behind them on a sort of string. And if the children go tired their parents could pull THEM as they sat on the trunkis. Clever things those...
Maybe see if its not too late to change you hotel reservations. If it is too late, everything will still work out fine.
Yes, I'm sure everything will work fine for you!
Have a great trip!

Interlaken to Murren
Our family needs to be in Murren by 2pm and our train will reach Interlaken Ost around 12:49. Will we have enough time to make it? Any helpful hints are greatly appreciated. Thank you!
You can look up all Swiss train times on the SBB website: https://www.sbb.ch/en Interlaken Ost to Mürren, random date, time: 12:30
(1) Interlaken Ost dep 12:35, Mürren BLM arr 13:28 (2) Interlaken Ost dep 13:05, Mürren BLM arr 13:58 (3) Interlaken Ost dep 13:35, Mürren BLM arr 14:28
Train (1) is too early. (2) looks like the train which is the official connection from your incoming train. But it arrives in Mürren at 13:58. Technically you have made it, but where do you have to be in Mürren? How far is it from the station?
The train from Interlaken Ost to Lauterbrunnen where you need to go to catch the gondola to Grutschlapp and then the train to Murren currently leaves at 13:05 arriving at Murren at 13:58.
We are hoping to take the Golden Pass from Montreux that morning (we are landing in Geneva late the night before). We can get to Interlaken much earlier if we don't take the Golden Pass.
What will be missing if we take a regular train from Geneva - Interlaken? Would it be better to skip the Golden Pass and give ourselves some cushion getting to Murren?
Why do you need to be in Mürren by 2:00 pm? What happens if you are 5 minutes late?
If it is important, take an earlier train from Montreux. You can ride a regular regional train over the same tracks as the Golden Pass train. It just won't have the special cars but the scenery is the same.
All rail routes in Switzerland have at least one train per hour, including the Golden Pass route (Montreux - Zweisimmen - Spiez - Interlaken). When you look up train times on the SBB or any other rail planner, it always finds the quickest route (not necessarily the shortest, but the quickest). If you look up Geneva to Interlaken, it will route you through Bern, going round the Alps and taking approx 2h50. If you want to follow the Golden Pass route (either in the named tourist train, or on one of the normal hourly trains), you need to add "via Zweisimmen". I did a search Geneva to Mürren via Zweisimmen:
Genève dep 04:51, Mürren BLM arr 11:28 Genève dep 05:39, Mürren BLM arr 11:28 Genève dep 06:30, Mürren BLM arr 11:58 Genève dep 07:30, Mürren BLM arr 13:28 Genève dep 07:39, Mürren BLM arr 13:28 Genève dep 08:30, Mürren BLM arr 13:58 <-- The train connection we were discussing earlier
So yes, there are earlier trains if you are prepared to leave Geneva earlier. Or, you can go by the quicker route via Bern, instead of the scenic Golden Pass route. The slow scenic Golden Pass route is costing you an extra 2 hours.
When are you taking this trip? On the SBB website it says:
Construction work: Montbovon - Château-d'Oex Between Montbovon and Château-d'Oex, no train services are operating. Replacement bus services are operating Montbovon - Château-d'Oex. The transportation of bicycles and of wheel chairs is not allowed. The connections are not guaranteed. Duration from 13.03.2018 05:00 until 02.06.2018 05:00.
Thank you. This is very helpful!
I'm re-waking this post... Thank you for all the help so far.
We decided to take our chances with the Golden Pass route, so we'll have 15 minutes to make our connection in Interlaken OST. Is it worth purchasing our tickets for Interlaken to Murren ahead of time or can we get them when we arrive? Thank you!
Why wait until Interlaken Ost to get those tickets? There's a chance of a long line for tix at that station, and then you'd miss the next train. (They go every half hour to Lauterbrunnen.)
If you are buying your Golden Pass tix in Geneva, just ask them to add on the Interlaken Ost to Lauterbrunnen "any time" tickets. They speak perfect English there so they'll know what you mean. (Most Swiss tix are "any time" that day tix, except for the few that are on sale and pre-bought.Those sale tix, or reserved seats, are only good for the time specified.)
Thanks, Shoe. That's good advice!
