10 of the wildest things in Michael Jordan's Chicago mansion that's been on the market for a decade
- Michael Jordan's mansion in the Chicago suburbs has been on the market for 10 years.
- The home is massive, and it's filled with quirky details and nods to his basketball career.
- In addition to a full basketball court, the home features doors from Chicago's Playboy mansion.
Michael Jordan's Chicago mansion has been on the market for 10 years.
The basketball legend's 56,000-square-foot, 7-acre compound is in Highland Park, Illinois — a suburb of Chicago. According to a video from Concierge Auctions , Jordan moved into the home in 1994 and lived there for 19 years.
The home is filled with quirky customizations and nods to the star's athletic career. Even the most recent listing price has a hidden meaning.
It was originally priced at around $29 million ($517 per square foot), but the most recent listing price is $14,855,000 (around $265 per square foot). The numbers in the recent price add up to 23 — Jordan's famous basketball jersey number.
The personalized home has a front gate with a large 23 on it representing Jordan's most famous player number.
Anyone who approaches the property will see the large numbers in a classic jersey-number typeface. If you're a basketball fan, you'll likely be able to tell who the home belongs to. Bruce Bowers of Bowers Realty Group, a luxury real-estate brokerage that lists Jordan's home on its website , previously told The Real Deal that these über-specific customizations might be making it hard to sell.
"It's clearly his home," Bowers said. "It's a tough sell. There's a lot of work that would have to be done to make it your own."
There's also a full-size, personalized indoor basketball court.
The court has "Jordan" written out under each hoop and features the Jumpman logo in the center.
But it's not simply a Jordan-branded court, the center court circle is also decorated with the names of three of his children: Marcus, Jeffrey, and Jasmine.
There's also a seating area with a window that looks into the court for anyone who just wants to watch or is waiting for a turn.
There's a putting green on the premises complete with Jordan Brand flags.
In addition to basketball, Jordan is known for his affinity for the slower-paced game of golf. His personal touches are everywhere, including the flags on each hole, which display the Jumpman logo.
While the putting green is on the lawn, the sports don't stop there. There's also an outdoor tennis court closer to the house.
The back patio boasts a round infinity pool punctuated by a patch of grass in the middle.
While infinity pools are a popular choice for luxury homeowners , this circular one on Jordan's property is certainly unique.
The patch of grass seemingly floating on the water's surface gives it a one-of-a-kind look, and is accessible via a small, arched bridge.
The estate also features a pond with fish.
The pond is surrounded by trees and large rocks, and it backs up to the tennis court off the side of the house.
There's a table that features a grid pattern of the streets of Baghdad.
Jordan has an eight-seat dining table with a geometric pattern inside. According to the listing, the design is meant to resemble a grid map of the streets of Baghdad, Iraq.
The listing agent said the table was made specially for Jordan.
A custom cigar lounge also features card tables.
The listing agent said this room used to be a home gym, but it was converted into a cigar lounge complete with a walk-in humidor and leather seating.
She also mentioned that there is a special air ventilation installation that draws the cigar smell out of the room so it doesn't linger and spread throughout the house.
The house has a set of doors from the Playboy mansion in Chicago.
According to the listing, these doors welcomed people into the original Playboy mansion in Chicago through 1974. They now function in the upstairs lounge area of Jordan's home.
They're dark, rounded, and look like pieces of art.
The kitchen and living room space features an aquarium.
In addition to a chef's kitchen with appliances and a large center island, this room has fish tanks built into the walls.
While there are nine bedrooms throughout the house, there are also 19 bathrooms.
The home has many different types of rooms — bedrooms, lounges, nooks, other sitting areas, and gym spaces. There are loads of spots for entertaining, so it makes sense that there are also plenty of places for those guests to freshen up.
Jordan's home has been listed at the same price for seven years, according to the Chicago Tribune . He intended on it being sold at auction 10 years ago, but it's still on the market today.

Take a tour of Michael Jordan's Chicago mansion that's been on the market for 10 years and see why he can't sell it
Michael Jordan's enormous house in the Chicago suburbs is still on the market after 10 years.
He's cut the price nearly in half and tried various ways to sweeten the deal — like Air Jordans.
The house was recently back in the news when an 18-year-old and a juvenile were arrested and accused of trespassing and causing damage .
Tony Manfred contributed to this post. The story has been updated.
Michael Jordan's 56,000-square-foot, 7-acre compound in Highland Park, Illinois, looks massive even from the air.
Anyone who approaches from the ground can tell right away that this estate belongs to the legendary No. 23, Michael Jordan — and that might be what's keeping it from selling. "It's clearly his home," said Bruce Bowers of Bowers Realty Group, adding: "There's a lot of work that would have to be done to make it your own."

The price on the house has dropped several times and is now going for $14.9 million, or about $265 a square foot — that's a far cry from the original price of $517 a square foot. The exact price is $14,855,000, and the numbers in that price add up to 23 — Jordan's basketball jersey number.
The long drive from the gate and the full-grown trees ensure that the house has privacy.
Jordan had the house — and the surrounding property — built from scratch to his personal tastes.
The outdoor space proves to be spectacular. There's a tennis court ...
... an infinity pool with a grass island in the middle ...
... which lies in the center of a large patio ...
... and down on the lawn there's a putting green.
The putting green is complete with Jordan Brand flag sticks.
There's also a pond stocked with fish.
While the outdoor space is sprawling and undoubtedly impressive ...
... the inside is equally spectacular. When guests first walk in the front door, they are greeted by this view, which includes a piano in the background.
The piano room doubles as one of many sitting rooms in the house.
And here's a look at another sitting area dubbed the "great room" — this isn't the only great room around the house, though.
Jordan's luxurious taste even shows itself in details like doorways. The set of doors seen below are from the original Playboy Mansion in Chicago.
They lead to a game room with a pool table.
Of course, since this is the former home of Michael Jordan, there is a full-court basketball court. It's the centerpiece of the house.
The court has the legend's name at both ends ...
... and the Jumpman logo at center court, which includes the names of his children — his daughter's name is out of view.
While guests wait for their turn on the court, they can hang out in this sitting area.
Moving along to the dining room, guests were able to eat at this "Baghdad table."
That grid seen on the tabletop is based on the streets of Baghdad.
Detailed eating areas are somewhat of a theme. Here we can see a beautiful skylight positioned perfectly over the kitchen table.
In one of the dining areas just off the kitchen, there is a large aquarium built into the wall.
The house has nine bedrooms ...
... and 19 bathrooms. Nineteen!
There is also a cigar room, which has been decorated intricately with a detailed ceiling.
Even the railing in the cigar room is ornate.
The cigar room also has plenty of card tables where we're guessing Jordan played some high-stakes poker games — he is known for his love of gambling, after all.
The home also features a full gym.
Jordan's Bulls teammates used to work out there every morning, according to an interview shared by Concierge Auctions.
Another luxurious part of Jordan's estate is the expansive wine cellar.
The library upstairs was said to be Jordan's favorite room. It features a drop-down movie screen.
Between the house and the patio, there's another TV room with a 110-inch screen.
This area used to be an indoor pool. Jordan renovated it after he moved in and added sliding walls to both sides that can make the gathering room either indoor or outdoor depending on the mood and the weather.
There are plenty of media rooms throughout the house. Even the seemingly random nooks like this one below have TVs.
The property also boasts a three-bedroom guest house ...
... which has its own family room and kitchen.
Jordan lived in the main house for 19 years.
The house comes furnished, though some of the pieces may be a tad dated.
Despite how awesome the house seems, it's been on the market since 2012. Jordan tried to auction the house in 2013, but the minimum bid of $13 million was never met.
Jordan said, "Many of the world's most desirable items are sold at auction, and Concierge Auctions is the hands-down leader when it comes to auctioning one-of-a-kind real estate."
Jordan's estate remained unsold despite attempts to get creative, including marketing to wealthy people in basketball-crazed China.

In 2015, the agent working to sell the house at the time promised that the buyer would also receive every edition of Air Jordans in his or her size — but that didn't work either.
Adam Rosenfeld, of the luxury-real-estate startup Mercer Vine, told Marketwatch in 2016 that Jordan was probably struggling to sell the house because of all of the personalized customizations.
Source: Marketwatch
Rosenfeld said the house also just wasn't in an area where wealthy celebs were looking for houses. Gail Lissner of Integra Realty Resources called the area "much more modest" than what Jordan's property suggests.
Source: Marketwatch , Business Insider
There is no need to worry about the house rotting while remaining unsold, though. The house is still occupied by staff members whom Jordan employed to keep it looking fresh.
Source: The Real Deal
Jordan is still paying a lot in property taxes. The annual bill is more than $130,000, and Zillow estimates that he has paid over $2.5 million in property taxes since he put it on the market in 2012.
One problem is that Jordan may feel his celebrity status adds value to the house, but, according to Stephen Shapiro of the Westside Estate Agency, people don't pay more for a house just because somebody famous owned it.
"But you know who tends to think a property is worth more because a celebrity lived there?" Shapiro said. "The celebrity trying to sell it."
Another issue is the location. Most of the homes in this price range in this area are closer to Lake Michigan, a few miles east of Jordan's former house. "Buyers at that level in that area tend to want to be closer to the lake," Missy Jerfita of Berkshire Hathaway HomesServices told The Real Deal.
Since Jordan put his Chicago home on the market, he has since purchased a lakefront house in North Carolina in a golf-course community.
The house is in Cornelius, about a 30-minute drive from the Charlotte Hornets' arena — Jordan owns the NBA team. MJ purchased the house for $2.8 million after it was originally listed for $4 million.
Source: Fox Sports
Jordan also reportedly bought a house on a golf course in Jupiter, Florida, for $4.8 million in 2013 and spent $7.6 million on renovations.
Source: Jeff Realty
He also owns a condo in downtown Charlotte, in the same building as Cam Newton. The condos reportedly go for between $1.5 million and $3.5 million.
Source: Charlotte Agenda
Most recently, Jordan listed his 10,000-square-foot home in Park City, Utah, for $7.5 million. Experts think it will probably sell faster than the Chicago compound.
Source: Forbes , Business Insider
He continues to wait for a buyer for the Chicago-area home. Of course, he is estimated to be worth $1.9 billion, so he can afford to wait for the right owner to come along on his old Chicago digs.

Ted Lasso ’s Juno Temple Reveals She Grew Up in the Original Michael Myers House from Halloween
The actress said her parents hadn't realized the significance of the house 'until Halloween came around'

Juno Temple ’s upbringing was far from ordinary.
During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Tuesday, the Ted Lasso star, 34, revealed that she grew up in the original Michael Myers house from the Halloween movie.
Temple’s comments came as she opened up about spending some of her childhood in Los Angeles.
“So my parents were living out here and I was born actually in the U.K., but then I came back here until I was about 5,” said the actress. “And I actually grew up in, this is an interesting place to grow up, my parents bought a house without realizing until Halloween came around and there was a tour bus that it was the original Michael Myers house from the Halloween movie!”
As the audience laughed at the revelation, Temple also giggled and nodded, “Oh yeah!”
Host Jimmy Kimmel , 56, then asked Temple if she had any idea what that meant at the time, to which she replied with a head shake, “I was 5.”
This led Kimmel to joke about how realtors are supposed to disclose if there has been a murder in the home “even if it’s fictional.”

Temple then shared a funny moment that happened one Halloween when the tour bus came past their house.
“Apparently there was a moment where I was outside on a swing, probably playing with Barbies and fairies, and I have naturally very curly hair and the tour bus was like, ‘Oh my God it’s Shirley Temple!’ and I turned around and was like, ‘No! I’m Juno Temple!’" revealed the star.
“And wasn’t Shirley Temple around 67 at that time?” laughed Kimmel, adding that the story was “pretty crazy.” “And that tour bus operator confused you?”
The house used as the masked serial killer’s home in the movie is located on Mission Street in South Pasadena, California. In the opening sequence of the film, a young Michael Myers (Will Sandin) murders his older sister Judith (Sandy Johnson) in an upstairs bedroom of the property.
The original Halloween movie was released in 1978 and starred Nick Castle as Michael Myers and Jamie Lee Curtis as high school student Laurie Strode.
Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Kyle Richards also starred in the slasher as Lindsey Wallace.

Michael Jordan's Chicago mansion is still on the market after 10 years.
Jordan has tried to sweeten the pot by cutting the price nearly in half and throwing in a complete set of Air Jordans with the purchase of the house. And yet, it remains unsold and he pays more than $100,000 in annual property taxes.
The house was originally listed for $29 million and has every bell and whistle you can think of. Some "over-improvements" and the house's location are making it hard to sell the property.
Below, we take a closer look at the house and why it's struggling to find a buyer. Most images are from footage provided by Concierge Auctions .
Tony Manfred contributed to this post and it has been updated.

- Michael Jordan's enormous house in Chicago is still on the market after eight years.
- Michael Jordan has tried to sweeten the pot by cutting the price nearly in half and throwing in a complete set of Air Jordans with the purchase of the house.
- He's still paying more than $100,000 in annual property taxes.
- "Any time you have these homes that are just kind of gross over-improvements for the area they do lead to very, very lengthy marketing times," said Gail Lissner of Integra Realty Resources.
- The house was originally listed for $29 million and has every bell and whistle you can think of. Some of the "over-improvements" Lissner may be referring to are the pool with a grass island in the middle of it, a door from the Playboy Mansion, a table based on the streets of Baghdad, and MJ-branded golf flags.
- Below, we take a closer look at the house and why it's struggling to find a buyer. Most images are from footage provided by Concierge Auctions .

He continues to wait for a buyer for the Chicago-area home. Of course, MJ is estimated to be worth $1.9 billion, so he can afford to wait for the right owner to come along on his old Chicago digs.

Most recently, Jordan listed his 10,000-square-foot home in Park City, Utah, for $7.5 million. Experts think it will likely sell faster than the Chicago compound.

He also owns a condo in downtown Charlotte, in the same building as Cam Newton. The condos reportedly go for between $1.5 and $3.5 million.

Jordan also reportedly bought a house on a golf course in Jupiter, Florida, for $4.8 million in 2013 and spent $7.6 million on renovations.

The house is in Cornelius, about a 30-minute drive from the Charlotte Hornets' arena — Jordan owns the NBA team. MJ purchased the house for $2.8 million after it was originally listed for $4 million.

Since Jordan put his Chicago home on the market, he has since purchased a lakefront house in North Carolina in a golf-course community.

Another issue is the location. Most of the homes in this price range in this area are closer to Lake Michigan, a few miles east of Jordan's former house. "Buyers at that level in that area tend to want to be closer to the lake," Missy Jerfita of Berkshire Hathaway Homes Services told The Real Deal.

"But you know who tends to think a property is worth more because a celebrity lived there?" Shapiro said. "The celebrity trying to sell it."

One problem is that Jordan may feel his celebrity status adds value to the house, but, according to Stephen Shapiro of the Westside Agency, people do not pay more for a house just because somebody famous owned it.

Jordan is still paying a lot in property taxes. The annual bill is more than $100,000, and he has paid nearly $700,000 in property taxes since he put it on the market in 2012.

There is no need to worry about the house rotting while remaining unsold, though. The house is still occupied by staff who Jordan employed to keep it looking fresh.

Rosenfeld said the house also just isn't in an area where wealthy celebs are looking for houses. Gail Lissner of Integra Realty Resources called the area "much more modest" than what Jordan's property suggests.

Adam Rosenfeld, of the luxury-real-estate startup Mercer Vine, told Marketwatch in 2016 that Jordan was likely struggling to sell the house because of all of the personalized customizations.

In 2015, the agent working to sell the house at the time promised that the buyer would also receive every edition of Air Jordans in his or her size — but that didn't work either.

MJ's estate remained unsold despite attempts to get creative, including marketing to wealthy people in basketball-crazed China.

Jordan said, "Many of the world's most desirable items are sold at auction, and Concierge Auctions is the hands-down leader when it comes to auctioning one-of-a-kind real estate."

Source: Concierge Auctions
Despite how awesome the house seems, it's been on the market since 2012. Jordan tried to auction the house in 2013, but the minimum bid of $13 million was never met.

The house comes fully furnished, although some of the pieces may be a tad dated.

MJ himself lived in the main house for 19 years.

... which has its own family room and kitchen.

The property also boasts a three-bedroom guest house ...

There are plenty of media rooms throughout the house. Even the seemingly random nooks like this one below have TVs.

This area used to be an indoor pool. Jordan renovated it after he moved in and added sliding walls to both sides that can make the gathering room either indoor or outdoor depending on the mood and the weather.

Between the house and the patio, there's another TV room with a 110-inch screen.

The library upstairs was said to be MJ's favorite room. It features a drop-down movie screen.

Another luxurious part of Jordan's estate is the expansive wine cellar.

Jordan's Bulls teammates used to work out there every morning, according to an interview shared by Concierge Auctions.

The home also features a full gym.

The cigar room also has plenty of card tables where we're guessing Jordan played some high-stakes poker games — he is known for his love of gambling, after all.

Even the railing in the cigar room is ornate.

There is also a cigar room, which has been decorated intricately with a detailed ceiling.

... and 19 bathrooms.

The house has nine bedrooms ...

In one of the dining areas just off the kitchen, there is a large aquarium built into the wall.

Detailed eating areas are somewhat of a theme. Here we can see a beautiful skylight positioned perfectly over the kitchen table.

That grid seen on the tabletop is based on the streets of Baghdad.

Moving along to the dining room, guests were able to eat at this "Baghdad table."

While guests wait for their turn on the court, they can hang out in this sitting area.

... and the Jumpman logo at center court, which includes the names of his children — his daughter's name is out of view.

The court has the legend's name at both ends ...

Of course, since this is the former home of Michael Jordan, there is a full-court basketball court. It's the centerpiece of the house.

They lead to a game room with a pool table.

Jordan's luxurious taste even shows itself in details like doorways. The set of doors seen below are from the original Playboy Mansion in Chicago.

And here's a look at another sitting area dubbed the "great room" — this isn't the only great room around the house, though.

The piano room doubles as one of many sitting rooms in the house.

... the inside is equally spectacular. When guests first walk in the front door, they are greeted by this view, which includes a piano in the background.

While the outdoor space is sprawling and undoubtedly impressive ...

There's also a pond stocked with fish.

The putting green is complete with Jordan Brand flag sticks.

... and down on the lawn there's a putting green.

... which lies in the center of a large patio ...

... an infinity pool with a grass island in the middle ...

The outdoor space proves to be spectacular. There's a tennis court ...

Jordan had the house — and the surrounding property — built from scratch to his personal tastes.

The long drive from the gate and the full-grown trees ensure that the house has complete privacy.

The price on the house has dropped several times and is now going for $14.9 million, or about $265 per square foot — that's a far cry from the original price of $517 per square foot. The exact price is $14,855,000, and the numbers in that price add up to 23 — Jordan's basketball jersey number.

Anyone who approaches from the ground can tell right away that this estate belongs to the legendary No. 23, Michael Jordan — and that might be what's keeping it from selling. "It's clearly his home," said Bruce Bowers of Bowers Realty Group. "... There's a lot of work that would have to be done to make it your own."
