The soothing and rapid effect with pleasant aromas, far from the bitterness of fermented beer, is boosted by a small glass of very cold (real) beer to accelerate sweating by thermal contrast. Rich in mineral salts, such as potassium, and vitamin B, beer has moisturizing properties. It is also very rich in antioxidants – contained in hops and malt – and protects, in local application, from skin aging.

BEER BOASTS BIG BENEFITS

At Bath and Barley one thing is certain: you’re here to take a bubble bath filled with fresh water, hops, barley and yeast. That is short for beer, but long on ingredients that are beneficial for your body and mind.

You can compose your own brew as you can select a mix from the different hops harvested by a Belgian farmer. These hops have different essences, but the beneficial effects are similar.

The hop flower contains the most powerful known antioxidant, Xanthohumol. Only recently the cosmetic industry has started to create new cosmetics containing hop.

And  top of that, the yeast nourishes the skin, smooths wrinkles and aids hydration. It also provides essential vitamin B, carbohydrates and proteins. Add essential oils and amino acids, unsaturated fatty acids,  and other bioactive nutrients to that list and you’ll feel better still. Oh, and never forget that enjoying beer promotes mental relaxation.

ROOM WITH A BATH

At Bath and Barley, you can rent a private beer spa room with wooden tubs for up to six people for one or more hours. When visiting you do not need to bring anything along. We provide towels, linen and authentic beer cosmetics. And because visiting Bath & Barley is a private experience, you can choose whether you would like to wear a bathing suit.  

The bath tubs are filled with water and a mixture of yeast, hop and malt. Together, this mixture gives an exciting fresh and pleasant aroma. To achieve the best results, we recommend our guests not to shower for at least four hours after having taken a bath.

Recognised by the UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage, the Belgian Beer Culture is clearly recognisable throughout the whole country. At one point, Belgium boasted a café for every five houses. Nowadays, the Belgian Beer Culture can be sampled in a variety of typical beer styles. 

Do you want to discover new beer styles? Try one of our beer flights!  These beer flights contain three or four carefully selected beers that are paired with delicious bites. There's no going wrong here.

In the Belgian beer spa, guests can draft their own lager from the bathtub. We have opted for ‘Estaminet’ as our house lager. The consumption of Estaminet is included in the price of your visit.  However, if you want to explore the breadth and width of the true Belgian Beer Culture while enjoying the wholesome spa experience at Bath and Barley, we can offer you a beer flight. These hand-picked beers are paired with a chocolate from renowned chocolatier Frederic Blondeel. 

We recommend sharing one beer flight with two people, but we leave this choice up to our guests. You can order beer flights during the introduction to our beer spa experience.

The unique premises in Prague’s Hradcany pay tribute to the famous astrologer and alchemist Tycho Brahe, who once lived in the Nový Svět street. With our beneficial baths, we continue the efforts of all the world’s alchemists, who researched and searched for the elixir of eternal youth. The basement spa rooms have been restored to make you feel like you are in the middle of an alchemist’s workshop, where the miraculous elixir of youth has been sought for centuries – perhaps in the form of our rejuvenating baths.

Welcome to Rudolphine Prague at the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries. At that time, Prague was a true labyrinth of the world, where the cultural, artistic and scientific leaders of the time clashed, where research, discovery and creation were tireless. Prague was a true centre of cultural and scientific Europe. And all thanks to Rudolf II. Habsburg (18 July 1552, Vienna – 20 January 1612, Prague), Roman Emperor, King of Hungary, Bohemia and Croatia and Archduke of Austria.

An enthusiastic lover of the arts, patron and supporter of the sciences, Rudolf II contributed to the cultural flowering of the Czech lands and intensive international contacts in the field of science and culture. On the recommendation of the director of his alchemical workshops, the learned naturalist and his personal physician Tadeáš Hájek of Hájek, Rudolf II also invited the renowned Danish astronomer Tycho Brahe to Prague.

At the end of the 16th century, Tycho Brahe had already been working for the Danish king for many years as a prominent astronomer whose observations with instruments made according to his own designs were so accurate that they were surpassed only after the discovery of the telescope. To capitalise on his genius, Tycho was commissioned by King Frederik II of Denmark to build private laboratories and observatories at Uranienborg and Stjerneborg on the island of Hven. He worked for over twenty years on the island observatory donated by the king. For his services he was awarded the highest Danish royal decoration, the Order of the Elephant, with which he is often portrayed. In his residence on the island of Hven, which was surrounded by extensive gardens, Tycho Brahe cultivated a wide variety of herbs, the medicinal effects of which this multi-talented scientist studied in detail.

After his arrival in Prague, Tycho Brahe stayed in the house „U Zlatého noha“ – a building adjacent to the house „U Zlaté hrušky“. After his arrival in Prague, Tycho Brahe was in close contact with his long-time friend and scientific colleague Tadeáš Hájek of Hájek, a great expert on Czech beer, who was the first to write a learned treatise on beer (De cerevisia eiusque conficiendi ratione).

Tycho and Hájek often drank the excellent beer from the Krušovice brewery, which Rudolf II bought for the Czech Crown in 1583. Tycho, who was familiar with the healing power of herbs, immediately discovered that the unique ingredient in beer that brings relaxation and relaxation to the body is Žatec hops. He did not hesitate to embark on studies and experiments to make the most of the great effects of hops for health and rejuvenation, as ordered by Emperor Rudolf II himself. Tycho carried out his research in alchemical laboratories that he set up in the cellars of a neighbouring building – the house of the Golden Pear – the house you are in today. After a series of experiments, Tycho concluded that the best effects of relaxation and overall regeneration of the body, calming of the nerves and rejuvenation of the skin are achieved in a whirlpool bath containing crushed hops and brewer’s yeast, followed by rest on a natural straw bed. The secret ingredient in the healing treatment was also the beer itself. A good mood and well-being not only during the treatment but also afterwards is promoted by continuous moderate sipping of Krušovice beer. Description of the procedure

Beer bath Spa Beerland Prague Hradčany – takes place in handmade, thousand-litre, whirlpool tubs made of Royal Oak. The bath consists of natural extracts used to brew the Czech Krušovice® beer – premium hop varieties, brewer’s yeast and malt. The high content of hop essential oils contributes to the overall vitalisation and relaxation of skin pores. The brewer’s yeast has a beneficial effect on skin regeneration thanks to its high vitamin B content and active enzymes. Thanks to this unique combination of natural ingredients and the magical effect of the royal oak tree, which has always been a symbol of longevity and resilience, the bath stimulates metabolism, flushes harmful substances from the body, releases internal and external tension, fatigue and stress, and thus leads to perfect mental and physical relaxation. In the magical cellars from the Rudolphine era, you will be able to drink unlimited quantities of genuine Krušovice® beer during the entire treatment.

The Hradčany bath is followed by a rest on a bed of real wheat straw , which will promote the absorption of all the vitamins and extracts from the previous bath. During the rest you will be able to enjoy fresh homemade beer bread and a blazing fireplace will keep you company.

• Malgré les désaccords sur la stratégie à adopter face à LFI, les responsables du camp présidentiel tentent de mobiliser pour éviter une majorité absolue au RN.

Dans le 15e arrondissement de Paris,

Gabriel Attal regarde avec curiosité le flacon au gingembre qu’on lui présente. « Allez-y, goûtez, ça va vous donner de l’énergie ! » Très actif ce mardi matin sur le marché Convention, le Premier ministre semble avoir encore de la ressource. « Merci et votez bien pour David dimanche, on compte sur vous », dit-il. Le député Renaissance sortant de la 13e circonscription de Paris, David Amiel, peut sourire. A cinq jours du second tour des législatives , la venue du populaire chef du gouvernement est un atout non négligeable. Et un coup de boost pour les militants macronistes, déroutés par la dissolution surprise .

« On est tous tombés de haut »

Car même ici, dans le sud-ouest parisien devenu fief macroniste depuis 2017, le camp présidentiel est menacé. Au premier tour, la candidate écologiste du Nouveau front populaire, Aminata Niakaté, talonne David Amiel d’à peine deux points. « On souhaite constituer un bloc central fort. Il y a beaucoup d’inquiétude. Personne ne veut que la France devienne un champ de bataille entre LFI et le RN », souffle l’élu sortant. D’un pas pressé, Gabriel Attal distribue les tracts, multiplie les selfies. « Face à vous, il y a le rouleau compresseur de l’extrême droite, je suis très inquiète », soupire une dame. Il réplique, tente de convaincre qu’une « Assemblée plurielle » est encore possible pour éviter de donner « les pleins pouvoirs » au Rassemblement national. Le Premier ministre ne s’attarde pas, deux autres circonscriptions sont au programme de sa journée. L’énergie du désespoir ?

Aucun signe de découragement n’est en tout cas visible. La dissolution s’apparente pourtant bien à un coup de massue. Elle devrait précipiter dimanche soir – sauf énorme surprise – la fin de son mandat à Matignon , après six petits mois. Au grand désarroi des militants présents. « On est tous tombés un peu de haut, mais il a fallu se relever pour repartir à la bataille », dit Isabelle. « Plus on aura de députés de l’arc républicain, mieux on se portera », ajoute-t-elle. « Il faut tout faire pour éviter que le RN n’ait la majorité absolue », abonde Emmanuel, tracts en main.

« C’est moi qui dirige la campagne »

Pour la première fois depuis sept ans, les macronistes imaginent basculer dans l’opposition. Un vertige qui n’est pas sans provoquer des soubresauts. A quelques rues de là, sur l’autre circonscription du 15e arrondissement, en début d’après-midi, c’est Edouard Philippe qui vient soutenir la député e sortante et ministre déléguée Olivia Grégoire . Une dame l’interpelle d’entrée sur sa position controversée de « ni-ni » en cas de duel LFI-RN au second tour des législatives. « Il ne doit pas y avoir une voix pour le RN […], mais j’ai du mal à dire qu’on peut faire un Front républicain avec un parti présidé par monsieur Mélenchon », confirme le maire Horizons du Havre.

Cette ligne, défendue aussi par Bruno Le Maire , n’est pourtant pas celle fixée par Gabriel Attal, comme a semblé s’en agacer l’intéressé à la mi-journée. « Je suis chef de la majorité, c’est moi qui dirige cette campagne. L’important, c’est à la fois les discours qui sont les miens et ce qui se passe sur le terrain », a-t-il rappelé, évoquant les nombreux « désistements républicains » de ses candidats pour faire battre le RN, y compris en faveur des insoumis.

L’heure n’est pas à la guerre interne, mais ces turbulences montrent que l’ancienne majorité présidentielle n’existe déjà plus, et que la suite se prépare. En attendant, il faut sauver les meubles, et Edouard Philippe préfère esquiver les questions de la presse. Après plusieurs rencontres dans des boutiques, il file vers un café pour boire une bière avec les équipes de campagne. Sur son chemin, un kiosque à journaux affiche la une du Monde  : « Macron perd la main sur son camp ». Un regard, pas de commentaire. Personne n’aura ce mardi évoqué le président de la République, grand absent des tracts et des discussions. Comme si la page du macronisme était déjà tournée.
